Crow Takes A Trip, Part 1

Hello followers!

If anyone has wondered why my blog has been quieter this past week, it's because Mr. Stormcrow and I are on vacation, taking a 2-week road trip down the West Coast from Seattle to San Diego. This is the trip we originally planned to be our honeymoon last year, but weren't able to take enough time off then -- it's very exciting to finally get to do it!

Under the cut are some pics and highlights from the first week :D I'm doing most of the driving, so husband is usually the designated photographer, and most of these are his work.

We flew into Seattle on Saturday, with a 4-hour layover in Kansas City on the way -- naturally, we had to have some barbecue for lunch. I had never heard of corn ribs before this, but they're really good!

After we landed in Seattle that evening, we pretty much went straight to the hotel. Husband went out to the corner grocery briefly, and had the bad luck to get caught in a downpour.

Sunday was super fun, because we got to meet up with @cayliana @wishuponastarion and @abalidoth and catch up! It's always wonderful to see you guys, and I'm sorry we forgot to take pictures while we were all together! Emma/Thorn, I hope you're feeling better! <3

After lunch, we drove around sightseeing. Some years ago, husband discovered this website, and it's become our go-to for finding weird, unique sites, statues, and other fun things to visit and photograph on road trips.

On Monday we got up early and drove 3 hours up from Seattle to visit Vancouver for the day. Neither of us had ever been to Canada before, so this was a lot of fun.

As I'm out of the country, my partner in the UK bravely took on DMing for the group (plus a special guest) who we have our regular campaign sessions with, but as a chaos oneshot where nothing is planned except the bare minimum of the characters we rock up with. And my god what characters we had designed to unleash upon my poor boyfriend. And so I present:

Chaos Oneshot, a summary

We started with a simple d20 roll to determine who went first to describe their character and what they wanted to do in this blank canvas of a world. I won that d20 roll.

So I begin describing this oozing plasmoid of a creature that is a small naked ball but with very detailed human hands and a tiny gothic backpack with wings that just makes a beeline for the next character in the room and begins to ooze up their leg and body all while making a schlop schlop noise and very cutely repeating their own name "Bmlbodoo!"

Among the other characters we had:

Generic NPC Greeting, the kenku I had decided to latch onto and climb, played by the amazing @ktcalamity

Angus, the minotaur with big abs and a big coat, along with his cloak that billowed dramatically as he Aragon'd his way into the building, played by the wonderful @maybeawriter6

Ric, the half elf bard who was just here to play music for the place and kept getting distracted by the various going ons, played by the incredible @cayliana (our special guest for this oneshot)

Wyld Myrtle, an average sized giant tortle grandmother who entered the assassin's guild looking for work and/or gambling and immediately got the hots for good old Angus up there, played by the outstanding @ninjagozanefan14

And last but certainly not least, Emery, the aesthetically peacock looking tiefling bastard with fancy wooden legs, played by the marvellous @margoteve

After our introductions, Bmlbodoo switched targets to Angus, Generic NPC Greeting tried to put Bmlbodoo in a flask, Angus started shaking his leg to get the ooze off him, Ric started playing on stage, Wyld Myrtle lost 23 gold pieces gambling at Rexas Hold'em but with giant novelty cards, and Emery ordered wine while he played with the fire, getting it to dance to Ric's music and thus freaking him out a little.

Sure enough the rest of the room started to notice all this chaos, especially when Blmbodoo started to elongate and wrap up and around Angus, who in turn shot a geyser of 30 gallons of water from a magical item at himself to dislodge Blmbodoo. Blmbodoo then turned into a tinier and naked version of Generic NPC Greeting, Ric tried to calm everyone down with battle music, Wyld Myrtle tried to make her way to Angus to make a move on him, and Emery distracted encouraged Ric on stage, put a bet on 'the blob' to win, and then got more wine.

The owner and leader of the assassin's guild started yelling and holding up a sword and, after walking into a clock of billowing, Angus, with his cloak of billowing tried to calm matters down. Then Generic NPC Greeting threw a bag of magic beans on the floor and they burst into flames.

Then the focus was on escaping. Ric jumped off stage and high tailed it out of there, Wyld Myrtle first tried to put the fire out with a hip flask, then got out of there, Angus, though he did debate using the geyser again, just grabbed Emery and ran for it, and Blmbodoo tapped zer little backpack with its little tiny wings that became actual wings and just flew over the flames and out the now open door. With the exception of Ric and Blmbodoo, everyone got stabbed by the assassin's blades as they tried to leave. Generic NPC Greeting, satisfied with their chaos, took out their magic broom, half lost control of it, got dragged into some tables and chairs, and then landed next to the rest of the assassin's who were heading to the basement.

With the majority of the... Party? outside the burning building, Bmlbodoo sat down to fish at the nearby lake that sprang into existence, Wyld Myrtle walked across the lake with her ring of water walking, Angus stopped dropped and rolled having still been on fire, Ric just wanted to go home, and Emery proposed they all band together to start an adventuring party. We don't know what happened to Generic NPC Greeting, but, presumably, they kept setting more things on fire.

my kingdom for a dialogue fic of wayne, roxanne, and megs just bitching about human social gender norms

Wayne, mid-sentence: -just can’t tell the difference, is the biggest problem. Like there’s big signals- everything’s all coded blue or pink for little kid stuff so it was easier to know what I was supposed to like back then-

Megs: -but the adult stuff is basically like, good luck figuring it out, bucko! 

Wayne: Exactly!!! Like, what part of painting your eyelids is exclusive to women? How is grilling the only ‘acceptable’ man cooking? What part of skirts needs to be for girls? And why are kilts different? What part of like, beer and sports is man only?

Roxanne, literally sipping a beer: preach. 

Wayne: I tried on heels one time because I was curious and I liked the way they looked and it’s not like balance is an issue for me- but then someone looked at me and I got so freaked out thinking they would figure out I was only pretending to be a man that I used my superspeed to leave and didn’t go back to that store ever again.

Roxanne: It’s all ridiculous, and it gets more ridiculous the more you think about it. You know how much flack I got the first time I cut my hair this short? How many dirty looks?

Megs: *g r o w l i n g* Your. Hair. Is. Perfect.

Roxanne: I know! And it wasn’t even like I was trying to make a statement! It was a convenience thing at first, and then I just liked it and it seemed stupid to let it grow back out just because people were saying I had ‘too masculine a face shape’ to ‘pull off’ short hair.

Megs: *losing his shit growling*

Wayne, patting Megs on the arm sympathetically: The dumbest junk gets gendered. You know I played violin when I was little? Mom put me in a buncha stuff to help with fine motor control and all that, but the other kids insisted that the violin and viola were the girl strings and the cello and bass were the boy ones, and I stopped playing the second no one was making me do it anymore. Which- sucks because I kind of loved it and- if i didn’t quit maybe I would have figured out the songwriting thing earlier-

Roxanne: oh, hon-

Dude that’s how I would beat Crystal like all the time

My starter was so overpowered with all the grinding and “I don’t remember what this enemy’s weak against so I’ll just bruteforce it and use my high-level starter again” stuff I’ve never realised that one gym leader with the Miltank was supposed to be challenging until years later when I saw other players recall their frustration

Even now, I recently got the Crystal re-release on my 3DS and Killer the Feraligatr just took down the Elite 4 on his own

the series itself was not NEARLY as fluid sadly - the animation in Florpus is miles better

im on ep 3 and so far the animation has been really nice for the most part :0c like not to sound like an Old Person but forreal compared to modern animated series there’s obviously so much care put into it that i haven’t seen in any series (except for a few scenes when a really dedicated animator is in charge for a while) in a long time
