Tara Iyak
Tumblr media
Good timing isn’t really my best suit and I wasn’t expecting this charm of mine to miraculously change any time soon. My expectations were low, but damn...
So I haven’t been active on social media these past few months especially on Facebook. I tried to see what’s up with my friends these days, perhaps catch up with how they are coping, react to a few posts about the things that keep them sane. Just after three scrolls, ‘yall I saw this heart-wrenching post from Idel:
Heartbroken.💔😭 Our entry-exit coastline . . Hanep. Narinig ko na yang gagawin nila tong kalsada, pero wala eh.. it is what it is. . Wala kang kapangyarihan para mapigilan. Lipat tayo ng ibang malilinisang dagat hanggat meron pang natitira. Progress??? It can go hand in hand with environmental protection pero aasa ka pa ba sa ganitong klase ng gobyerno. 😎 "Who suffers if you kill the environment? It's the poor. And whose duty is it to protect the people? It's the government. And when you make decisions based on business interests, you have shirked your responsibility. You have lost the moral ascendancy to rule the government because to you, business and money is more important than the welfare of our people." -G.Lopez
The Tara Linisin Natin To project is a very special movement for me. It started out with just a few friends trying to save their childhood spot. It took only a few years to rid this place of trash, but it took a lot of passion, persuasion, sweat, and plowing, and digging, and now, it’s gonna be a road- for that build, build, build legacy this admin would like to leave us with.
On to the next coast to save, I guess? I just hope we don’t need to save any more, though. But until then, we will.

POLYNYA please tell me about the sea/your Soul Society sea(s)!!!!! (I also wanna talk about the sizes of things but I will save that for later, haha.)
My entire writing/worldbuilding self is just an agglomerate of about 10 different books/comics I read when I was 19, and one of those is Books of Magic. The major thing I took away from Books of Magic, a thing I think about every single time I read or watch something with a magic system, is the idea that humans have their own magic which is fundamentally different and in some ways more powerful than the magic of magical beings, and that they aren’t bound to a lot of rules and restrictions that magical beings are. A lot of media that features other worlds tends to split into the human world (which has no magic) and the magic world (which has magic). Sometimes the human world has technology and the magic world doesn't, I don't care, that is boring to me and I reject the idea that magic is technology you don’t understand. The thing about Books of Magic, which featured a lot of traffic between the human and the faerie realm, was that humans can do magic that faeries can't. Faerie magic is all illusion and glamour. It cannot affect real change. It is much harder for humans to do real magic, but their magic can actually transform things.
This is foundationally the way I approach worldbuilding in Soul Society. It seems like Soul Society is more powerful and magical than the World of the Living, but that’s only true for a limited set of circumstances, and much of Bleach takes place within those circumstances. Taken in a broader sense, though, Soul Society is not a complete world, it is a projected world, constructed of memories and ideas. Hueco Mundo is the same, but it's even less complete. My husband always gets really irritated by physically impossible moons, like this one:
Tumblr media
but I actually think that's appropriate, because it's not the moon, it's the concept of the moon and this is a very romanticized concept of the moon. You cannot build a rocket in Soul Society or Hueco Mundo and get to the moon. The earth is not round in Soul Society. Its borders are limited.
What is Soul Society even for, anyway? I have been watching Hotel del Luna, a kdrama about a hotel where ghosts can stay for a little while and rest and work out some of their issues before they go to the afterlife. I feel like Soul Society is the next step after this. It is too big a shock to go from being a human to becoming a few motes of reishi, so you get another stage of retaining your human form and living a half-life where you don't need to eat or drink and your family has the idea of being a family without all the actual past-to-future connective tissue of a family. It's my impression that when you die in Soul Society, you don't get reincarnated as yourself. You become reishi, and that reishi gets mixed up with everyone else’s and new souls are created when new human children are born. Soul Society is also a sorting mechanism for separating out powerful sources of spiritual energy (that is, shinigami) and putting them to work as balancers, while letting the less volatile soulstuff flow through the reincarnation cycle without cavitating the impellers, so to speak.
That being said, seas are important. I have lived my entire life on the east coast of North America, never more than a few hours from the Atlantic Ocean. I think about moving inland sometimes and I think I would die. My husband grew up in the mountains and he feels a similar connection to the mountains, you can feel him becoming more powerful every time we drive north. I think it is necessary that Soul Society contain the geographic features that anchor people to the physical world, because ghosts need these things to feel as though they are still people and not vague amorphous spirits.
You need a sea. Also, as noted in the post that inspired this one, people in Soul Society eat a lot of fish and it’s gotta come from somewhere. So I think there is at least one sea in Soul Society (I like to put it in East Rukongai), but this is a sea built on human memories, it is not a sea based on the power of the sea, because that is not a thing that can exist in Soul Society. You can fish in the sea and you can swim in the sea, and an ocean god visiting from another realm might be able to pull a little power from this sea, but it is not a true sea. You need a different magical realm for that, a Sea Society, if you will. The Living World, in contrast, is a true world with true oceans, which draw their power from the Sea Society, just as there is death in the Living World because of its connections to Soul Society and other assorted afterlives. (it has been 2 sentences and I am already sorry I called it Sea Society).
Earlier, I mentioned that the borders of Soul Society are limited, and I think that it is surrounded by impassable no-man’s-lands on all sides that, if you could cross them, would lead you into a different dimension. This is not my original idea, it’s something I have picked up from numerous fanfics, but I think it’s a good one and I am adopting it. I think that, as a border between Soul Society and something else, each of these borderlands represents different kinds of death. I think I’ve figured they are a jungle, a desert, a mountain and, of course, an ocean.
The power of the ocean encompasses both life and death, but this ocean or at least this part of this ocean is only death. It is cold and it is dark and it is full of things with horrible teeth. If you sail a boat into it, you will not come back. I do not think that dimensional borders are, well, two-dimensional, so to speak-- if you could somehow cross this ocean, you might end up in Sea Society, or you might end up in some other death realm, because a lot of afterlives are connected and you get to a lot of them via waterways. The Slavic afterlife, Nav, for example, is ringed with a river, and you cross the Styx to get to Hades. Come to think of it, both of these are sometimes portrayed as being full of unhappy spirits, so maybe the death ocean is an afterlife in and of itself.
This is a little off the topic of oceans, but it is on the topic of natural resources. For all we know, everything that everyone eats in the Seireitei is grown in reishi vats, like the chickienobs in Oryx and Crake. That actually makes more sense, honestly, than fishing and farming, but I have always assumed that many of the upper districts of Rukongai do, in fact, have Nice Things, which turns into jobs and commerce and an improved class of life. The quality and quantity of these resources thins out severely as you go outward. Why don't people in Inuzuri grow their own food, I asked myself? Well: poor soil. Unpredictable, violent weather, so if you can get anything to come up, it either bakes or drowns. A general miasma of low-grade toxins in the air that tend to stunt growth or prevent things from breeding true. Obviously, I think about South Rukongai more than I think of other directions, but I think it’s easy to imagine this process also working as you approached cold rocky mountains with cutting winds and rockslides, or dry, dusty desert where it never rains.
The canon concept of Soul Society is that everything in Rukongai sucks and everything in the Seireitei rules, but this honestly vexes me constantly. It must be ungodly expensive to own and maintain property in the Seireitei, which is why most of the shinigami seem to lead solidly middle class lifestyles and take advantage of on-base living arrangements even though they are allegedly the best of the best. If you're a noble, and especially not Great Family noble, I think it may make sense to maintain a large estate in a pretty part of Rukongai as opposed to a townhouse in the city-- I've mentioned the Kira family estate before, in North Rukongai, which, in my mind, is sort of overgrown and run-down, very Wuthering Heights. Alternatively, if you are super-rich, maybe you have a second property out somewhere nice, hence the Lake District. Did I just make these places up because I want to set a fanfic there someday? Probably yes.
When I was writing Between Tides, the most basic, raw part of that story was just "Rukia and Renji get sent on a lonely mission near the sea" that was the thing I wanted to write. Back when it lived in my head, it originally took place in Soul Society, but I wanted it to have a melancholy, tourist-town-in-the-off-season vibe, and that didn’t feel like a place that would exist in Soul Society, so I moved it to the World of the Living. I guess I feel like if there’s beach tourism at the Soul Society Sea (I should name it but then I would be forced to write a story about it), it would be sort of Old Timey, and I’d don’t know much about what an Old Timey Trip to the Beach would look like in Japan, if that’s even a thing.
Anyway, sorry this was so rambling, this concludes my thoughts about THE SEA in Soul Society. I am happy to hear everyone else’s headcanons, please and thank you.

The Captivating “Callao Cave”
Callao Cave is located in the Barangays of Magdalo and Quibal in the municipality of Peñablanca, about 24 km (15 mi) northeast of Tuguegarao City, the capital of Cagayan province.
The Callao Cave is the leading attraction in the Peñablanca Protected Landscape and Seascape. The Callao Cave is composed of seven chambers which are The Column, Chapel, Skeleton, Elephant’s Head, Praying Angel, Rocket, Lion’s Head and Dog’s Head Formations. The place draws a dramatic picture and each natural narrow above that the streams of light coming from the sun gets into the cave, serving as illumination of the wall through its opening.
How to get there?
From Manila ride a bus bound to Tuguegarao, from terminals located in Cubao or along Buendia Avenue. The travel time is about 10 to 12 hours and the fare are around Php 600.00 per head. From Tuguegarao City rent a trike for at least Php 400.00 round trip. Or otherwise if you were alone you can take a shared ride at Peñatoda (tricycle station in Tuguegarao Riverside to Callao Caves Resort) approximately the fare would be Php 40.00 per head then, a 2 minutes boat ride to Callao Caves for Php 20.00 per head.
Tumblr media
What to do in Callao Cave and nearby places?
Callao Cave is relatively easy to explore or what we called spelunking, it is about 184 steps staircase that lead to the cave entrance, showcasing different kinds of its seven chambers and the conditions inside the cave have caused the formation of stalactites and stalagmites, and many other formations.
You may want to maximize your exploration by experiencing riding a boat for only Php 300.00 a boat to explore the one of the largest tributaries of the Cagayan River, the “Pinacanauan River” the longest, widest and most powerful river in the Philippines. Activities that can do river rafting or boating, kayaking, fishing, and swimming while the mountains are perfect for trekking and mountaineering
Tumblr media
Cuisines
Batil Patung is a Tuguegarao original. Batil means mix and patung means top or topping. The noodles in Batil Patung are the flat kind. The topping consists of sautéed beef or, I guess, carabeef, bean sprouts, sliced leeks, julienned carrots, crushed chicharon, meat loaf slices and fried egg. It comes with a cup of egg drop soup meant to be sipped or mixed with the pancit. Chopped red onions, calamansi and chili peppers are also served.
Every place has their own distinctive type of cuisines, and the way they prepare and cook it and the way it represents their own unique place and culture.
Economy
The Cagayan Valley’s major industries are agriculture with rice and corn as main crops, livestock production of cattle, hog, carabaos and poultry, furniture making of rattan and other indigenous materials, fishing especially along the coast of Cagayan, Isabela and Batanes and Magat Dam in Isabela and also exportation of fruits, fruit preserves and vegetables.
Tumblr media
Culture
The friendly Ivatans of Batanes, they are considered as “True Insulares,” they can be found greeting their visitors and tourists walking along the streets of the island province. The Ivatan's culture have been largely influenced by the climate of Batanes. Due to the severe climatic disruptions to their agriculture, they have developed some successful strategies to protect their food supply and their way of life.
One of the endemic clothing of the Ivatans is the vakul. A vakul is a headgear designed to protect the wearer from sun and rain. It is made from vuyavuy palm fiber. The ivatan people are given opportunity to showcase their uniqueness in culture, structure of their houses and other traditions.

Region 3: Central Luzon
Where is the best tourist attraction in Central Luzon?
Tumblr media
Let’s go to Minalungao National Park!
Minalungao National Park is a protected area of the Philippines located in the municipality of General Tinio, Nueva Ecija in Central Luzon. The park covers an area of 2,018 hectares centered along the scenic Peñaranda River bordered on both sides by up to 16-meter high limestone walls in the foothills of the Sierra Madre mountain range. The park is considered as one of the few remaining natural environments in this region north of Manila. It is promoted by the local government as an ecotourism destination offering breath-taking scenery of green pristine river and unique rock formations. A system of unexplored caverns has also been identified as potential attractions. Facilities for picnics, swimming, fishing, raft riding and cliff diving have likewise been put up to draw more visitors.
How to get there?
Ride a bus bound to Gapan / Cabanatuan thru ES Terminal at Cubao. Travel time is 2 hours (depending on traffic) for P200 pesos per way. Alight at Gapan Puregold . From Gapan, ride a tricycle going straight to Minalungao National Park. Travel time is 1 hour and 15 minutes. There are so many tricycles in Gapan that could lead you straight to Gapan (there is no standard rate, but the cheapest we got was P600 for 4 pax for 2 way already). The booked tricycle will take you straight to Minalungao and fetch you at a certain time you prefer.
What to do?
There are plenty activities to do in Minalungao National Park. First, Bamboo Rafting and Swimming, you can rent a bamboo raft and go through the blue-green Peñaranda River surrounded white limestone. Second, Hanging Bridge, thrill-seekers will love to cross in the steel hanging bridge overlooking the narrow natural passage of Minalungao National Park. Third, Hiking or Trekking, from the hanging bridge, you can also hike a thousand steps to a grotto and glass cross. Fourth, Zipline, adventurers can zip line across the river. Fifth, Cliff Diving, and Sixth, Spelunking or Caving, further on a park trail is a cool cave waiting to be explored.
Cuisine
Every province seems to have its own version of longganisa and Nueva Ecija is no exception. For breakfast, be sure to try Cabanatuan garlic longganisa, a very savory variant of the well-loved sausage typically made of ground pork and spices. If you prefer your longganisa on the sweet side, try batotay, a beef-based longganisa coated with a distinctive sweet sauce. You can also pass by the wet market to buy strings of longganisa to take home.
Economy
Central Luzon is a major contributor to the Philippine economy. It accounted for 8.98 percent of the country's Gross Domestic Product in 2013. GDP grew by 4.30 percent. Agriculture, Hunting, Forestry and Fishing sector comprised 16.97 percent of the regional economy and it was 5.37 percent in 2013. Central Luzon contains the largest plain in the country with its agricultural plains accounting for about 40% of the region’s area. It produces most of the country's rice supply, earning itself the nickname "Rice Bowl of the Philippines or Rice Granary of the Philippines". Excess rice is delivered and imported to other provinces of the Philippines.  Although rice is the major crop, its vast and fertile plains are highly suitable for growing almost all agricultural crops. It has long coast lines rich with marine fishing grounds in Bataan, Zambales and Aurora. About 45 percent of the region’s area is devoted to forestlands. Gold, silver, chromite, limestone, marble, clay, sand and gravel abound in either Zambales or Bulacan.
Culture
Sinukwan Festival is a weeklong festival that captures the soul of San Fernando City. It is best described as the essence of the Kapampangan Spirit. Sinukwan is a cultural festival, so you would expect that most of the events are steeped in the traditional culture of the natives. A festival of this magnitude in the Philippines is incomplete without the spectacular street dances that bring locals together in a remarkably fluid manner.

Region 4B: MIMAROPA
Where is the best tourist attraction in MIMAROPA?
Tumblr media
Let’s go to Palawan Island!
Palawan is the largest island of the province of Palawan in the Philippines and the fifth largest island of the country. Much of the island remains traditional and is considered by some as under-developed. Abundant wildlife, jungle mountains, and some white sandy beaches attract many tourists, as well as international companies looking for development opportunities. As of 2016, the main island of Palawan was rated the "Most Beautiful Island in the World" as voted by respective readers of rival travel publications Conde Nast Traveller and Travel & Leisure. It is the second year running that Palawan has won the Conde Nast Traveller award, as well as the second time in four years that it has occupied Travel & Leisure's top spot (2013). El Nido, located at the northern tip of the island, is also currently rated the "Most Beautiful Beach in the World" by Conde Nast Traveller readers.
How to get there?
1. Flying from Manila to Puerto Princesa
Most tourists coming to El Nido land on Palawan Island in Puerto Princesa International Airport, through a direct flight from Manila. The two main companies operating daily flights between the two cities are Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines.
2. Taking a van from Puerto Princesa to El Nido
The journey usually continues with a van direct from Puerto Princesa airport up to El Nido bus terminal. Your van transfer will take between 4:30 and 6 hours, depending on the time of the day, and the price for a seat is around P600 to P700.
3. Riding a tricycle to get to El Nido town
Finally, your van will stop in Corong-Corong bus terminal. This is located just 5 minutes away from El Nido Poblacion (the proper town) with a tricycle. You’ll just have to ask you to one of the drivers to take your hotel or guesthouse. During the day, the normal price is P15 per person, but at night, the rates goes up and the tricycle drivers will ask you P50 minimum.
Tumblr media
 Cuisine
Mindoro's rich marine life strongly influences the local industry and cuisine. It is popular for Adobong Pugita, Octopus Adobo. Adobong Pugita is made with mature octopus that is cooked in soy and vinegar sauce.  If cooked perfectly, the dish yields a very flavorful and succulent octopus that is well-matched with steamed rice. It is usually served as a main entree for lunch or dinner or as an accompaniment to beer in the Philippines.
Economy
The region’s economy relies mostly on agriculture, fishing and ecotourism, making it one of the strongest in the country. MIMAROPA is one of the Philippine’s top producers of rice, banana, coconut, mango, cashew, papaya and cassava, which are included among the country’s top export products. The region is the second top fish producer in the country, and its output makes up almost 14% of the Philippine’s total produce annually from 2002-2004. MIMAROPA also ranks as the second top producer of seaweeds, representing 21% of the country’s total output.
Culture
Palawan is not just an island of beauty and abundant resources but a place with colorful and creative culture. In these festivals, the people of Palawan would usually conduct colorful street parades and wear creative costumes. These street dances are one of the most awaited competitions during festivals. The people of Palawan are given the opportunity to exhibit their unique culture, each municipality’s delicacy, and products and many other things related to the festivity.

BFAR strengthens efforts vs. illegal fishing
#PHnews: BFAR strengthens efforts vs. illegal fishing
MANILA – The Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) has strengthened efforts to stop illegal fishing in the country.
This as the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), in a joint seaborne operation with BFAR, captured last week three fishing vessels engaged in illegal fishing activities.
“Our efforts to prevent and put a stop to illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing in the Philippine waters remain as one of our top priorities along with securing safe and affordable fish commodities for Filipinos and providing assistance to our fisherfolk especially during these challenging times,” BFAR Director Eduardo Gongona said in a statement on Tuesday.
The operators and crew of fishing vessels FBca JAMZYRIC, FBca JOSWYNE BROOKES and FBca 5 BROTHERS, who were caught using trawl fishing gear inside municipal waters, violated Section 86 (Unauthorized Fishing) and Section 95 (Use of Active Gears in Municipal Waters, Bays, and Other Fishery Management Areas) of the Republic Act (RA)8550, as amended by RA 10654.
The report said the fishing vessels were escorted to El Varadero, Sangley Point in Cavite City for proper documentation and filing of administrative charges.
Authorities found that the group caught more than PHP9,000 worth of fish catch.
Around 150 kilograms of hairtail (Trichiurus lepturus) with an estimated value of PHP5,000, 35kg of slipmouth with an estimated value of PHP4,000, and 35 kg of lizardfish (Saurida spp.) were found onboard the vessels.
DA-BFAR warned that illegal, unreported, and undocumented (IUU) fishery is under eagle eyes' watch as law enforcement teams continue to patrol and monitor not only Manila Bay but many of the country’s fishing grounds against such illegal activities.
The government agency also urged the public to be watchful and report any illegal fishing activities to the nearest BFAR Regional Office or local government unit.
“The Bureau together with concerned agencies are spending much effort for more compliance and less violations to rules and regulations but we cannot allow IUUF happening under our nose,” Gongona said. (PNA)

#TaraLinisinNatinTo: The Initiative
Tumblr media
Zero-waste is a lifestyle I’ve been trying to fulfill for a very long time now. It’s a slow, unsteady, and anxiety-filled journey. And there was a point in this experience that made me step back and ask myself, “am I doing enough? Is deciding to consume less enough?” I got an answer when I saw a post from a friend. It was a call for volunteers to help out in their clean-up operation in Cavite City .
Tumblr media
THE JOURNEY
Idel Laza- Velasquez, a mom of 2 cuties and a swimming coach started #TaraLinisinNatinTo with a couple of her friends. She got the idea from a video she saw about a lawyer from Mumbai who cleaned up a once severely polluted beach. That initiative caught the attention of many communities and the Indian government so Idel thought to do the same thing at Cavite City checkpoint. She said that the coastal area is the first and last place you see when you enter and leave Cavite City; and the sight of a beach that resembles a waste dump doesn’t indeed make for a good impression.
Though it motivated her to take a huge leap and establish #TaraLinisinNatinTo, Idel’s advocacy didn’t simply start with a Facebook video. A part of her journey is when she started free diving with Seazoned, Sisid and later on became a member of Freediving Coaches Of Asia. “You can't really appreciate the ocean when it's full of garbage,” she further added.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When asked how she manages her time being a full-time mom, a swimming / diving coach, a very outgoing  person  and an active advocate, she simply said that regardless of how busy it gets, she always make sure to save some time for their monthly clean up. After all, it’s only once or twice a month and the busiest is only during summer. Her kids are also older now so it has been easier to bring them to the clean ups and her swimming lessons. I had the chance to play with these kids and it’s really fun to be on their shoes. It’s almost always summer for them. They spend days filled with adventure as they can always get to join their mom’s beach trips, swimming and diving lessons, and clean-ups on top of the activities they do together as a family like skateboarding and cycling.
Tumblr media
THE FUTURE
Apart from Idel’s daughters, kids from San Lorenzo Ruiz Elementary School are often present in this initiative. They regularly volunteer in the cleanup along with the school’s teachers and officers. It’s one of the greatest things to witness during a #Tara! Cleanup. In my first few visits, I saw more kids than adults doing the dirty job, and they don’t do it like some people to get attention and praise online or to push a brand’s CSR. I guess it goes with their age- they are simpler, more energetic and more competitive. The kids I encountered there are naturally helpful, welcoming and chatty. They’ve probably gotten more trash compared to the adults I cleaned up with. We honestly couldn’t catch up to their speed.
Tumblr media
Idel said that kids are the ones who need to be taught the most. San Lorenzo Ruiz Elementary School is actually the nearest school to the Heroes’ Arch or where we regularly hold the clean-up. The kids have been so used to seeing the coastal area in its disgusting and appalling state. This February, I’ve seen a lot of them at the clean-up and we finished way earlier than expected. Right after finishing their breakfast, they went straight to the sea and Tara Linisin Natin escalated to Tara Ligo. “They are the future. They need to understand the importance of environmental care. That way, as they get older, they will have a wider understanding and they will be smarter when it comes to figuring out how to solve the environmental problems of the future,” Idel added.
THE NOW
How Idel and the Tara! gang managed the project for more than 2 years is quite simple. They kept encouraging people they personally know to help out. To get a wider reach, Idel posts a monthly publicity material on their FB page, her personal FB account and on various environmental FB groups. All the information a volunteer has to know from what to bring, when they can participate and where the clean up is regularly being done are available on those posters. There have been a lot of support and love for the initiative since they started the clean ups and the people willing to help out are increasing by number.
The initiative isn’t also asking for much. Donations are welcome especially reusable gloves, rice sacks, rakes, snacks and water for the volunteers, but one wouldn’t feel pressured to give. What this cause really need more than anything is the volunteer’s time to help out. A simple share on Facebook about their monthly coastal clean-up also helps a lot in spreading and encouraging people to lend a helping hand.
Tumblr media
Apart from coastal clean ups, Tara! participates in other environmental drives like tree planting. Idel volunteered for a mangrove planting project of JCI Cavite City and an adopt-a-school project with San Lorenzo Ruiz Elementary where you donate and help the school. She said that doing these things leaves a positive impact on her. It makes her feel good knowing that she’s doing something no matter how small it may be.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Recently, Idel spoke at an awareness program held in a barangay and an elementary school. She said that a big part of what they do is to highlight awareness on the effects of improper waste management and the positive impact of taking care of the environment. “We need to show people the positive effects of taking care of nature. We’ve already seen the effects of what our bad habits are doing to nature, anyway. Focusing on the positive will encourage people to change,” she said.
I’ve figured that there are many people who care and are willing to share their efforts and energy to help out, but for some, including me, it’s really hard to take concrete actions. However, Idel said that it doesn’t have to be as big as #TaraLinisinNatinTo. “I think sharing posts on Facebook helps in informing people on how to take better care of our environment. I also encourage people to bring reusable utensils, water bottles, plates, etc. to cut down on waste every time we go on a trip, beach/hike/dive. Also, I encourage cleaning up after ourselves. It's about accountability,” Idel further added.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It really has to begin from within ourselves. I find it effective to look at our own habits and see how we behave as consumers. From there we can see the bigger picture. We’re probably doing these multi-billion corporations a huge favor by cleaning up after their irresponsible product designs and our collective waste mismanagement, but if not us, who else will and if not now, when? Many people think that cleaning up the beaches aren’t making much of an impact in a global scale, but it can be a start, right? Just like what Idel believes in, “clean-ups are just the start. Awareness and prevention are still the long term solution against ocean pollution.”

My Journey in Ilocos Region
I've read a lot how really beautiful Ilocos is and seeing all those great picture of the old streets and buildings in Vigan. My family and I went on a road trip vacation to Ilocos Region. Me and my family drove all the way from Cavite to Ilocos Region for three days and Two nights. Our Mission was to see the famous places in Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte while experiencing the joy of travelling on the road. Our vacation were simple -see as much tourist destination as we can, eat in local restaurants and enjoy our time together. If you love travelling a lot, don't miss visiting Ilocos because it is one of the most beautiful and historic places in the Philippines. Last summer, we went to Ilocos and it was so amazing. I was excited to see the streets of Vigan and see the famous Bangui Windmills, Paoay Churh, Light house and Malacañang of the North. Ilocos is a region in the Philippines, encompassing the northwestern coast of Luzon island. It's known for it's historic sites, beaches and the well-preserved Spanish colonial city of Vigan. I really love and enjoyed this because the place has preserved the house, road, Churches and buildings that you just went back to the time of the Spanish. The area is well preserved and well cared for the place and just think that even in our modern culture we still have seen how far the heritage houses are and how they have been preserved. We are a group of Twelve persons, hence we decided to avail a tour package. It's better to avail tour packages to lessen the cost specially if you are in a big group. The trip to Ilocos is about Ten to Eleven hours from Cavite, depending on where you meet. I would like to say from January to July, it's fine to visit Ilocos any time of the year. But the months of August to November are usually prone to typhoons and rains. I'd say, always check the weather forecast. One of the best things about travelling is the food. The riverside Empanada is a local and tourist favorite that sells food products, souvenirs and more. But obviously -the best selling items are the varieties of Empanada. It's their specialties. Try their famous bagnet and you'll never forget it. Longganisa is an emblematic Ilocos food. These pork sausage are the star at any ilocano table. Read the full article

Unexploded vintage bomb found on Carabao Island
MARAGONDON, Cavite -- A local fisherman here found an unexploded vintage bomb on Thursday along the shore of Carabao Island, a stretch of islet about a kilometer off the coast of this town.
Senior Insp. Redentor Talay, officer-in-charge of the town police, upon receiving the sketchy report ordered Senior Inspector Federico Lindo Jr., the deputy chief of police, with the assistance of Special Weapons and Tactics team of the Cavite Provincial Police Office (PPO), to proceed to the site to verify the report.
Initial investigation showed the fisherman, Arvin Baldomero Plaquia, 38, found the vintage unexploded ordnance while fishing near Carabao Island and immediately reported the discovery to the town police.
Plaquia is a member of the Maragondon “Bantay Dagat” and a resident of Sta. Mercedezville in Barangay Pinagsanhan-B here, where Carabao Island belongs.
The bomb, measuring 3 feet long and 10 inches in diameter, was immediately brought to the Cavite PPO SWAT office in Cuartel, Imus City for proper disposition.
Investigators and elder villagers believed the unexploded vintage bomb could be among those left when Carabao Island was established as one of the harbor defense ports, then known as Fort Frank by the US Forces in the 1900s at the southern entrance of the Manila Bay.
The 18-hectare narrow island is now transformed by the local government into a tourism destination with its jagged rocky cliffs and pebbled shores, topped by a patch of green at an elevation of some 56 meters above sea level. (Dennis Abrina/PNA)

2 rescued, 1 missing in Surigao City sea mishap
#PHnews: 2 rescued, 1 missing in Surigao City sea mishap
BUTUAN CITY – Two persons were rescued while another one remains missing when their motorized banca capsized after being slammed by big waves on Sunday evening (Nov. 1) off the coast of Surigao City. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Surigao City said a search operation is still ongoing in the area for the remaining passenger as of this posting. “The said motorized banca left Surigao City at around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. It was already dark and the operator had difficulty in maneuvering amidst the waves,” said CCGM Leonel A. Cavite of PCG Surigao City in an interview with Philippine News Agency Tuesday (Nov. 3). The motorized banca, with two passengers and one operator, was heading for San Jose town in the Province of Dinagat Islands (PDI), he added. “The two passengers were personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) from Dinagat,” Cavite said. He added that personnel from the Surigao del Norte Provincial Mobile Force Company (SDNPMFC) and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) rescued on Monday afternoon (Nov. 2) FO1 Peter Greg L. Miranda, one of the passengers. The personnel from SDNPMFC and CIDG were traveling back to Surigao City from Siargao Island when they happened to spot Miranda floating and yelling for help, Cavite said. The operator of the motorized banca, identified as Janjan Bolandrina, was also rescued by fishermen in the area on Monday afternoon, he added. “The motorized banca capsized in the area off Barangay Kapalayan in Surigao City,” Cavite said. He identified the missing passenger as SFO1 Samalo B. Amparo from BFP Dinagat Islands. In an interview on Monday evening (Nov. 2), Aiza Mae Lagare, the operations assistant at the PDRRMC Emergency Operations Center in Dinagat Islands, said they are monitoring the search operations' developments.
