About Her 

What do you do?

I'm the designer and owner of an independent jewelry brand called Caviar Noir. I design and make jewelry that is both edgy and sophisticated.

What is the main reason you started your own business?

I've always wanted to be my own boss, set my own hours, work hard to grow something that I created and not what someone else has created.  From an artistic perspective, I wanted to provide a unique take on jewelry and bring it to the retail world.  It’s so rewarding whenever I see someone wearing my jewelry. It makes the struggle that much sweeter.

What is it like to be a pregnant mom in business?

It’s a challenge, for sure!  Not only are you battling the hardships of growing and operating a business, but throw on top of that the hardship your body endures when creating a human being AND ALSO taking care of an active toddler.  My toddler has a babysitter for 3 hours Mon-Friday.  Since I work from home, within those 3 hours I can choose to work, eat, nap, and/or clean.  So I have to be super efficient with my time.  I also have to be flexible and not be too hard on myself should nothing productive get done due to unforeseen circumstances like my child being sick or babysitter issues or if i'm just not feeling well.  It's quite the challenge and I respect momtrepreneurs so much more because of it. 

What do you find cool and not so cool about being a momtrepreneur?

I find it cool that my days are very flexible.  I can take my kid to the park or we could go to a museum in the middle of the day.  I feel so privileged being able to spend quality time with my son.

Things that I find not so cool about being a momtrepreneur is having to let go of control.  You have to be mentally prepared when things don't go according to plan (which happens pretty frequently).  I work out of my home which poses plenty of problems.  Sometimes I have to turn on Blippi, a kid tv show, so that I could get some work done.  I also can't work when the house is messy.  So I have to clean first.  I have a dog who sheds like crazy and I have black hardwood floors.  You can imagine how many times I have to vacuum and turn on my Roomba.

How would you describe your own personal style?

I would say my style is effortless and edgy chic.  My outfit also has to be super comfortable.  I love boyfriend jeans and t-shirts.  I also love to wear high-waisted baggy tapered pants with a fitted top.  Because my outfits are pretty simple, its easy to accessorize with jewelry and shoes.  I can either go simple like wearing flat shoes and dainty jewelry, or I can make a statement with high heels and edgy jewelry.

About Her Pregnancy

What is your favorite thing about being pregnant?

I like the special treatment I get from strangers and from people that I know.  I'm always taking trips to NYC and it feels really nice when people offer their seat to me.  I also love playing the pregnancy card with my husband.  He loads the laundry for me and he also will run out to the store, no matter how late, if I'm having a food craving =)  He went to the store at 10pm to get me Oreos =)

What treat do you crave the most?

I love all sorts of desserts and sweets. 1st trimester I craved oreos and M&M's. 2nd trimester I craved chocolate chip cookies and brownies.  3rd trimester I just crave sweets, in general.

What makes you feel the most beautiful during your pregnancy?

What makes me feel the most beautiful is when I take a shower... lol.  It’s true! Showering is a luxury when you have a toddler to take care of.  Being that I work from home, I rarely fix myself up.  So when I actually do put on makeup and wear decent clothes, it makes me feel beautiful!
