As far as Venus conjunct ascendant synastry…I honestly only feel the tension when I’m the ascendant. Their personalities are fun because my sag Venus and mars knows they can take a joke. I think Scorpio/8th house doesn’t really care too much about looks and appearances. In fact I notice Scorpio Venus men view the people they date as beneath them in some way and they do that to feel comfortable as if that person can’t get better and leave or cheat.

Meet the Witch - 2024 Edition

Honestly I have not introduced myself in a LONG time because I've had this account since 2014 ish - so in case there are new people here this can be a good reference point.

So hi, hello - this is me in 2024. You can call me Cara but most people here know me as Torque! My pronouns are They/Them and I am currently 32 and married. I live in Pittsburgh, PA.

Most people know me for my devotion to Hel, Norse goddess of Death and my art of her!

(My hair is a bit longer so I just pull it back - but I barely take pictures anymore. Anyhow -)

What's new?

Still chronically ill and disabled; in 2024 we are still recovering from medical trauma that induced two phobias, POTS-like symptoms and a mystery digestive issue that is probably the severe IBS my meds that caused the trauma were controlling.

I am currently and hopefully to stay fully self-employed after finally getting off my feet from said trauma that left me pretty house-bound for a year. Somewhere in there I got a job with a catering company that truly was terrorizing, never reported me for taxes and therefore fucked up my finance history.

But, in 2024 so far I have done a good amount of shows and toured again briefly with the Oddities & Curiosities Expo group in cities outside of PA and that was incredible! I grew a lot as an artist, and it really helped me to work through some of my phobias and continue to stabilize.

You can find my Etsy here but I am focusing most of my efforts on shows! It would be best to follow my Instagram to keep up with events and new products!

Otherwise I've just been focusing on adulting and trying to fix our finances so that we can actually buy a house someday (hopefully).

A fun fact is that I started listening to ATEEZ in mid-2023 and got to see them in concert in DC this year as a bday gift to myself. It was absolutely the most incredible thing I've ever experienced. They are PERFORMERS.

If you're still on the fence about listening to Kpop, you're missing out! I poo-pooed it for a long time as cringey, but ATEEZ has very progressive lyrics and most of the fan-base in real life are alternative women and enby's in their 20's and 30's. Seriously the most fun I've ever had.

Other than that if I need to state it again, this page is for representation and acceptance of all forms and hate will not be tolerated. It's impossible to write out all the ways that people can be hateful but basically don't be a nazi or phobic in any way.

Not much else happened this year except a bunch of small-town drama associated with said catering company (story time?) and shit with our previous landlord (we moved). I made some really good local friends that I'm so appreciative of, and joined a DnD campaign for the first time!

My character is Ashaf Tendara, an Arcana Cleric archeologist who accidentally found some ruins of Ubtao and now unfortunately because of one of the sessions, their way of spell-casting is just screaming T-rex noises for ten minutes straight (Ubtao is related to dinosaurs somehow). We've finally emerged from the poop dungeons in said campaign, and some of those interactions I've wrote down are truly incredible. My Mage Hand is also a spectral sticky hand. My husband's steel defender's name is Duke Poop'em because of said poop dungeons.

I also read manga, watch anime and still read young adult fantasy at my big age (Adult SciFi is sooooo dense omg but it just takes me longer lol) and watch cozy game and horror playthroughs on YouTube. I listen to podcasts a lot about the paranormal, true crime and reddit readings.

Basically I'm a chronically ill and online shut-in artist with some witchy stuff sprinkled up in there.

this is a little random but seeing how the contract negotiations for bp members went and that some of them are establishing their individual agencies made me realize something. for bp members, we know that they’ll likely have group endeavors that are few and far between, but we know that in the case of bts that is a risk that hybe cannot take by any means.

we’ve already unpacked a lot of the reasons why hybe was so intentional on providing jk with every possible tool and then some. i think an additional layer to that was likely related to them retaining the rights to the members solo endeavors. even if they failed to keep all of the members in-house for their solo gigs then at least they got to maintain their “biggest asset” which would calm investors’ concerns if any of the members decided to dip in the solo aspect. this also worked as a way to coerce the other members to continue their solo careers with hybe since it was very intentional that when the company is interested in investing in you there are “incredible” results. hence, their absolute lack of effort for any of the other members bc that would prove that the true determinant of success is the company’s full support.

i think manipulation is an inevitable part of any contract negotiation so it seems logical that the company, in order to mantain control over the members, would want to assert dominance/power over them. even if they’re not being manipulated they are in a relatively volatile position right now. all of them are used to a level of success and not many people would give that up for integrity 🥶. i don’t know if any of the other members would or wouldn’t go that route but im sure at least some of them would. i don’t know if i’d blame them either, it’s just business after all.

as we’ve established before, jimin did ruin a lot of their plans to show a stark difference between jk and the rest of the members, so they had to get heavy-handed with the mediaplay and imo they succeeded. jimin had as good a year as jk, new jeans, stray kids, seventeen, all of these kpop acts being super pushed in the media as the “next big thing” but for some reason he’s not getting half the press they are. 🤔

sorry, i went on a tangent in the end but its hard not to get on my soapbox when it comes to jimin lol

Yea I saw what went down with bp and it’s the best of both worlds for them because I feel like they’ve always been more interested in their solo endeavors than their work as a group. For BTS it’s trickier like you said because even the smallest hint of that something is afoot that would lead to them finding different labels for solo work would be be blown up by the media. Which in turn, cause investors to get skittish. Even that 2 month hiatus they first took back in 2019 had people claiming that they were disbanding and would follow 1D’s foot steps.

The lack of effort in the other members is ,like you said, because they wanted jk specifically to stand out since he’s the canidate those chose to do so. But Hybe’s main goal is to show investors that they can make a star through their resources. Bang even said along the lines of this in an interview because that’s what the music industry abides by at large. Billboard’s most recent rule change after like crazy hit #1 also came about this way because they said fans had too much power and it was the labels job to tell GP what the “next big thing” was gonna be. It’s why you see other kpop groups, even though they’ve possibly made a name for themselves, you still know the company they hail from first because the company is the driving force behind their rise to fame. Hybe wants to be a dominant force in the industry by their own name and not just because they’re known as the label that houses BTS. Still think if they wanted to show this they should’ve started with an up and coming and not a member of bts since that just defeats the purpose and is already showing people your dependent on that member’s pre existing fanbase but whatever.

Bang PD is a bastard, but I don’t think he’s trying to “control” BTS. At least not in the way SM does to his groups. I’m not giving him the benefit the doubt in this scenario, but I still fully believe BTS knows their worth and know that hybe is nothing without them. I’m sure there have been multiple instances where they probably had to compromise (the english trilogy for one) and they’ll probably be more in the future. I do agree with some of them being accustomed to a level of success, but it’s not that it’s because hybe is responsible for it. It’s off their own talent and armys backing them. So I doubt in the case if one of them was given an ultimatum of loosing that artistic integrity or going the route jk has (if offered) they’d get shelved, cause hybe still needs them. I know there’s always the possibility of that happening though. It’d be real annoying but I don’t think I’d be as irritated as I was with jk because I’ve seen and know what they’re capable of on their own. In contrast to jk where he just threw in the towel without trying (which is where 60% of my frustration at him comes from). As long as it’s still their print of music quality with their work ethic behind it. I could deal.

Jimin’s not getting as much press as those groups and jk, because hybe has made it so on their end. lol. That’s the entire act of suppression. They gave jimin the barest amount of congrats after FACE era as to not seem completely neglectful, but beyond that they didn’t go out their way to give him his flowers. So it’s not that the mediaplay was successful, hybe is just doing their best to ensure jk is the only one who’s talked about. But even that isn’t working because Jimin’s just too much of a talk point. You see these people on twitter with blue ticks constantly mention him for engagement money and whatever move he makes generates interest because he’s just a natural draw. Literally the worst member for hybe to try that tactic on tbh lmao.

Girl it comes with the territory. They're just flies on the windshield lol. I feel indifferent and neutral. It's 2025 not 2005. Not 2015 either. We barely have anything to go on anymore minus GD performance he did at that award show recently where he got crap for potential lip syncing (but we know their sound team is ass). I'd accept the trolling if we were like ateez, seventeen, nct or bts and actively had so much content for the BB guys like the old days or MADE era, but we don't.

I think I mentioned it long time ago but I was like everyone else here I WAS DEEEEEEEEEEEEEP into TOP & BB. I lived and breathed BB especially him. Ultimate bias, Ultimate crush, I had a MASSIVE FOLDER of allll his pictures. Dated a guy who loved TOP too and we would write fanfictions together about our fave idols. Made friends back then through BB. So much man. You couldn't tell me shit about them cause I would stab you with a fork if you didnt praise them lmao.

I would stay up late at night to watch the mama awards and other shows that would happen online. It was an amazing time but it wasnt healthy compeltely cause it...I can't put it into words how it does something to you mentally but mentally and emotionally it keeps like a hold on you.

I kinda realized I lost a lot of my teen years and other years just being engrossed in TOP. I don't regret it at all cause he was great and I loved every bit of it but then you get older and realize on a bigger scale they dont matter anymore unless something like this show pops up to breathe new life into one of the members.

So I've been there. I've been through it all. I was even there and so immersed into 2ne1 vs SNSD. Wonder girls and 4minute. GD & Kiko saga..gd & dara ship, gd and CL ship. Minzy and Bom issues. I was there before blackpink ever existed.

Shit I remember when Jay Park started AOMG for the first time. I remember the first time we saw Lee Hi in that competition show. I was there when hyuna came out with bubble pop. I lived and breathed it girl. I was there when girls day came out with female president and expectation then something. I was there when Sulli was still good with FX and didnt have the dynamic duo cruty motherfucka grooming her. I was there when Lee Hyori was the bluerprint for all these baddies solo baddies today and I was there when Hyolyn & Ailee were deemed the good vocalists. I was there when Dean dropped bonnie and Clyde for the first time and was a pretty boy. I was also there when Zico had the girl from AOA running to his apartment to hook up lmao.

So I'm not talking out of my ass. I feel you can have a foundation and general love for an idol but overtime especially decades, come to see them change and see hidden sides of them you didn't know existed then develop opinions of them that arent always fluffy.

People forget a lot of folks lives were saved by kpop back then and today. Some people wouldn't be alive today without their bias. I'm sure he's gotten people through tough times like hes gotten me through tough times and good times. But I will say I wish I could take a lot of that time back and invest that love & energy when I was in school into myself or hobbies. A life lesson learned.

Few days back i was watching reaction video's for jm (i do that once in a while when i miss him nd want to coo over him with other ppl so i watch reaction videos) and this person popped up and it was a taekook reaction video so out of curiosity (I'm stupid) i went to check the comments section and there were comments as how this man has reacted on many kpop ships but think that taekook is far different than others and blah blah (idt i need to tell u what kind of cmnts tkkrs do on these videos) and i said the same thing that nice way to bring views.

You know I'm Indian so i see tens of reaction videos of ppl reacting to Indian stuff like songs, movies, food, culture etc and i know for a fact that those ppl are nowhere genuine or curious about my country but rather use ppl for views (as India has highest population). You can tell the difference who's being genuine and who's just clickbaiting.

If this man had watched other ships in k-pop then there's no way he gonna think tk is different cause those kpop ships has some another level of skinship (which tk don't even have much) and these reactors only gag over skinship. There's hardly anything tae and jk had said about e/o that will make one to think they're dating (like i know this gonna sound mean but there's literally nothing tk had done for e/o or with e/o that could be ship worthy or to think there's something between them). BTS has done not even half the shit those other k-pop ships do so this man saying tk is different tells u that he's just taking views. Like ask him some 2-3 things about jk and tae and I'm sure he won't be able to tell shit about them cause if someone sits on a chair to do just shipping reaction videos then you're just there for views and not beacuse you're curious about knowing them beyond that.

One of the reasons i also don't watch any shipping reaction videos (including jkk) even if they say jkk is different is because i know most of them are just saying it for views.

This is what happens when these ppl give space to hating on memebrs and then it comes back to bite them in the ass. I pray this bites this shipper in the ass too.

A request to jkkrs who sees it to go and tell the guy about the shit his followers be doing. and ask him to stop involving jm in any ships especially tkk cause he ain't anyone's captain nor a baby sitter.

ZANNA!!!! YOU'RE A LUCY FAN RIGHT?? I'M THINKING OF STARTING TO LISTEN (bc our names are the same..lol) TO THEM AND I WANT RECOMMENDATIONS!!!

OH YES YES THEYRE ONE OF MY ULTS HEHE I EVEN SAW THEM LIVE ^^^

for starters to their discography, i'd recommend: haze, flowering (their debut), i got u, snooze, play, you're right, watermelon, never in vain, 10sec, and sequel <33 there's a good mix of softer and more upbeat songs in there.

also here's some other things to note about lucy/little introduction to them!!

their leader is shin yechan, violinist (classically trained) and oldest member (1992). he's a big fan of studio ghibli and has a few studio ghibli tattoos (esp howls moving castle). he's also totally the fake maknae and super playful <3

sangyeop is the main vocal, guitarist, and kind of the face of lucy (1994). lucy was formed on superband, but sangyeop was added later for their debut as their old main vocalist went back to his former band and they needed a new one. he's the mom of the group and has an insane voice that adds a lot of uniqueness and colour to lucy's discography. he's also really smart and kind and has helped walwals (lucy's fans) study (since he graduated uni with a degree in applied chemical engineering).

wonsang is the producer and bassist (1996). he's in charge of the musical direction of lucy and makes all their songs (although other members also write lyrics and are involved regularly). he's a big anime fan so a lot of lucy's songs have that anime intro influence to them. he's super soft and sweet-- a total baby (and my bias). he's also produced recently for doyoung (nct)'s solo album title track, so he's becoming more well-known as a producer in kpop. (WHICH HE DESERVES CAUSE HES A GENIUS)

last but not least is gwangil the maknae, drummer, percussionist, vocalist/anything else that the band needs (1997). he's a total allrounder and can seriously do anything musically, although he mostly does drumming and vocals. he enlisted recently, but he'll be back in 2026. his voice is the softest most gentle and it really contrasts nicely with sangyeop's rich tone and colour. he's def the most mature in lucy surrounded by the other 3 chaotic members but you can tell he loves them a lot :)

their music is a really incredible mix of ambient pop, ballads, rock, and beautiful mixes of violin solos. they talk a lot about missing childhood/healing your inner child and relate a lot to the struggles of working adults in the world. their music really touches a special part if you listen closely and focus on their lyrics as well. i can't recommend them enough, they are so so incredible !!! (seeing them live changed my life forever, i can never stop thinking about it every day lmao) i hope you enjoy them and i'm happy to help with any other song recs/info about them!!!

Tangentially related to Key's McDonald's drama, did you see the big thing about people boycotting music and stuff from SM, JYP, YG, and Hybe for a few days? Like what does this even have to do with gaza? I swear kpop fans aren't able to view anything or do anything not through a kpop lense. The boycotts are supposed to be for company's directly contributing to Israel. What is this boycott even for? Cause some idols drank Starbucks and ate McDonald's and kpop fans have to "educate" them that that's wrong or something? That's another thing I hate, kpop fans obsession with "educating" people. "We have to educate them" it's the most self important bs and it only ever seems to apply to asian idols. No western singer has ever needed to be "educated"

I dont even know where im going with this. Im not even upset about the boycott, people can do what they want, but it just seems so ridiculous to me. I'm sure there are actual things these people can be doing but i guess it makes them feel important to just not listen to kpop for a couple days

Noeasy was my first comeback as a fan and it was wild. I still like the outfits from that era most. The mix of traditional and modern just slaps (just like thunderous lol) Orange is a hard color to pull off tbh

Have you listened to their older stuff? Any favorites from previous albums?

Kpop is insane with their performances, dancing and singing (often) live? I couldn’t do either separately, let alone both at the same time xD

When BTS became popular, I was taking a break from kpop for like two-three years and I never really got into their music. I only know some songs from covers 🙈

As fellow nerd who also likes artsy stuff, I feel Matt on a spiritual level. When he gets out the statistics, I cheer. (Okay but I also watch Hank green talking about the poll they do every year or so. That’s also not for everyone)

I watched a two hour video of mark and Matt power washing, so yeah I can relate to watching not for the games (that video gave me an existential crisis because we are close in age and it feels like I haven’t accomplished anything in my life compared to these two 😅)

I recently watched all the quietest let’s plays. Why did he do them with the most infuriating games? XD

I don’t actually feel anything but I still love to listen to asmr and I would love it if Mark collaborated with someone like Made In France asmr. It’s not gonna happen but a woman can dream

My gosh, so you got into them right around when they did Kingdom yeah? That had to be so much fun!! Maxident was my first comeback I was there for, cause I had gotten into them like right after Oddinary came out so I didn't experience the comeback (which I think would've been another one that would've killed me)

And yeah I've heard that about orange but unless everyone I know is just lieing to me to save my feelings I've been told my bright orange looks pretty good on me! (And I've even had people forget that my hair isn't just naturally that unnaturally orange!)

And oh yeah I've listened to their whole discography and I don't think there's a song I Don't like! It was a bit overwhelming seeing that a group that's only been around for 4 years (at the point of me finding them) has such a big catalog but when I say I just dived in I really did! I just kinda went to Spotify and hit play on everything!

Oh I definitely feel the "they're my age and I've done nothing!" I'm around the skz boys age and it gives me existential dread every once in a while!

I'm not familiar with ASMR channels since the closest thing I can handle to ASMR is like Watching people build little dioramas, but you never know Mark has done quite a few unexpected things during his 10 years on YouTube!

My sister hated the Because This Is My First Life ending too. I'm not planing to watch it unless I want to hate watch it for some reason.

I agree that it's used too often in kdramas. However, I read a great meta—Why do kdramas have that forced separation trope?—that talks about that the trope is used not only because of their Confucian values but because of their real life separations that have happened because of the Korean War with families who still have living relatives on the opposite side of the DMZ and the mandatory military service that forces 20-something year old men to put their life on hold for 2 years to be separated from their family and friends. Often leading their girlfriends to break up with them. While kdramas will usually put the separation into a different context, forced separation would be something that everyone in Korea can relate to.

There's also a very Korean concept called 'noonchi'. On the positive side, it's being aware of and catering to other people's wants and needs without being asked. A little bit like the ability to 'read the room' which then inspires action. On the negative side, you're supposed to be a mindreader, you're rude for asking too many questions or if you didn't automatically do something that no asked you to do but somehow you were expected to know that you should do it. This also leads to people trying to figure out what your physical or emotional needs are by making alot of often wrong assumptions about what you might want because it's rude to ask since you should just know.

This is where I think the separation trope also comes in by showing people trying to make decisions for others based on their noonchi which leads them to being a noble idiot and break up with the other person for their own good. There was also a meta I read (I can't find it right now) about noonchi that, because Koreans are so indirect about their wants and needs, breaks up are a way to recalibrate the relationship. It causes them to change their approach, then they can try again.

I recently watched an interview with a kpop music executive who brought in international songwriters to work with Korean songwriters. One of the big hurdles they have is that Koreans won't directly say no to an idea so they try to talk around it, frustrating the foreigners. Also, they find the foreigners saying 'no' to their ideas as quite abrasive and may be offended. The executive had to work to help them understand each other and they eventually work it out.

While I'm not a fan of the separation trope, I'm fine with it when it's done well. I just got done rewatching I Am Not A Robot which has a completely justifiable separation trope in the middle. But what I really love about it is how, after a big kerfuffle, the characters actually sit down and talk things through in the second half to work out all of their issues that lead to a truly happy ending. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it in kdramaland. One of the main reasons I think they could get away with that is because most of the characters were in STEM and had a hard time understanding social cues/norms. Therefore their only option was to talk about it.

OMG steamed chicken! I saw a video of Lee Junho making chicken on the stove in one of those special coated pans and it looked so bland. Where was the oil and seasoning? All for the abs. lol

I started watching Kdramas this year and I do a lot of literature analysis in my normal life, so I found it really fun to find the tropes that were unique to this genre/culture that were different than what I find in Hollywood TV/movies and novels. I started with Alchemy of Souls and I was kind of amused looking back, because I never thought the SML had a chance with the FL but if I had known how strong the "they met as children and therefore DESTINY" trope is, I probably would have thought they would get together for sure!

Here are some of the unique tropes I've noticed:

-Leads meet as children and therefore DESTINY (What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, 100 Days My Prince, It's Okay to Not be Okay, Castaway Diva, The King's Affection, Sh**ting Stars, Destined with You, subverted in Alchemy of Souls)

-Reincarnation, which happens a ton but of course for the same reason Western media is littered with Chosen One/Saviour plots (played with in Alchemy of Souls and Extraordinary You, straight in Destined with You, Tale of the Nine Tailed, Moon in the Day, My Demon, The Story of Park's Marriage Contract... so many)

-Guy (usually) buys the girl shoes and then puts them on her. They also usually make a joke about her running away. (Tale of the Nine Tailed, 100 Days My Prince, Extraordinary You, Castaway Diva, King the Land, subverted in The King's Affection and The Forbidden Marriage)

-Guy (usually) gives/brings the girl an umbrella to protect her from the rain. I LOVE THIS TROPE, symbolism for protection and shelter gets me (straight in My Lovely Liar, King the Land, Tale of the Nine Tailed, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, subverted/played with in Alchemy of Souls, Business Proposal, Doom at Your Service, Castaway Diva)

-Not sure if this would count as a trope, but unique to the genre because we don't have formal speech in English and especially not in Canada where I live (we've basically started just going first name with everyone) I love it so much when the main characters use informal terms with each other for the first time. The subtitles don't always translate this well, but I know what the honorifics sound like and I'm all, "She didn't use "Mr." that time it's serious now!!!"

Anyway, are there more? I'm probably not catching them all!

(I've only been watching Korean dramas by the way, I'm sure some of these tropes are shared by other dramas from China and Thailand. I just found the comparison with English language TV interesting.)
