Pairing: Evil Queen!Yeosang x fem!reader
Word count: 5,970
Yeosang watched as you strolled through town, an annoyingly cheerful smile on your face. Why were you always so happy? What was there to be happy about?
Everyone you passed greeted you with a bright grin, their faces lighting up when they saw you, especially the men. Yeosang grimaced at the sickening sight, observing from his window. He didn't understand why everyone was so fond of you. There was nothing special about you. You were average, dull, and ordinary. Yeosang, however, was royalty. He was powerful, intelligent, and wealthy. He ruled over the kingdom and had an magnificent castle, furnished with only the finest pieces of furniture. He should be the one getting all of the praise and attention, not you.
"Why does everyone like her so much?" He grumbled.
It took everything in him to step away from the window though he wanted to keep watching you. It sounds absurd, watching someone you despise. Yeosang never once stopped to consider that fact. He was too busy keeping tabs on you and peering at you through his large viewing window. When he wasn't doing that, he was watching you through his enchanted mirror.
He paced around his room, taking long strides across the floor, his mind fogged with thoughts of you.
"You need not concern yourself with her, your majesty." His mirror spoke.
"I'll do as I please." Yeosang snapped.
"She is only causing you stress." The mirror continued. "This obsession you have is not good for you."
"It's not an obsession." He hissed. "And how do you know what's good for me?"
"This behavior is no good, your majesty. It will only cause you harm."
"Stay out of my business. What I do is none of your concern."
"Very well." Sighed the mirror.
Yeosang continued stalking around his room, his temper being pushed to its limits. He was already annoyed with you to begin with, then his nosey mirror had to get in his business. He's there for Yeosang to watch the townspeople (and you), not to give him unwanted opinions.
The king had to come up with a solution to this issue. Perhaps he could just try to be better than you. He reached up, running his fingers over the long hair at the base of his neck. Maybe he could grow his hair out more? His hand then moved to his black and purple attire. Maybe wear flashier clothes?
How could he bring more attention to himself?
He was quick to shoot the idea down, thinking it was too foolish. It would never work. He had to come up with another idea.
Yeosang sat in front of the magic mirror that hung in his chambers, a scowl on his face as he did so. "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?"
He already knew the answer.
"As you wish."
The face in the mirror disappeared, an image of you strolling down the street replacing it. You smiled brightly as you waved to everyone. Yeosang glowered at the sight of you. He couldn't understand how the townspeople adored you and fawned over you.
"She's not anything special." He grumbled. "Her looks are mediocre at best. What about mine?"
"It's not just her looks." The mirror spoke.
"I beg your pardon?"
"It's her personality."
"What about her personality?" Yeosang inquired, his tone becoming snappy.
"She's extremely kind to everyone she meets. That is why everyone loves her."
Yeosang let out a scoff. "Please."
"You need not be so sour towards her, your majesty."
"What did I tell you about staying out of my business?"
"I am only looking out for you, your majesty."
"Well, stop."
"She has done nothing wrong. Tell me, what has she done to you personally?"
Yeosang's jaw clenched in annoyance.
"Existed."
"That is not a valid answer."
"You have no right to ask me these questions." He snapped.
"I am only curious."
"She's become the center of attention. I'm supposed to be the one everyone pays attention to. She is only a citizen, I'm royalty."
"Perhaps you should try being nicer." Mirror suggested.
"I am nice. I've never once been unfair or harsh with the people of this town."
"That may be true, but you're not a very friendly king. Y/n goes out on a walk through town every day and is always kind to anyone she meets. You stay cooped up in here."
"And?"
"You should try getting out. Perhaps try and socialize with the townspeople."
"I've heard enough." Yeosang held his hand up. "I don't need you to sit here and nag me."
"I am not nagging. I am merely making suggestions."
Yeosang glared at the mirror before stalking away.
Yeosang was deep in thought as he sat on his throne. He had to do something to get rid of you. Attempting to switch up his appearance to shift the attention to himself was a stupid idea. There had to be another way.
I could have her killed. He thought to himself. Then I wouldn't have to deal with her anymore.
He shook his head at the idea. For some reason, thinking about ridding you from the planet left a bitter taste in his mouth. He had to think of something else.
Moments later, a devious idea popped into his head, one that would surely take all the attention away from you.
Yeosang then began constructing a plan.
For once, he listened to what the mirror had suggested and decided to get out of the castle. His perfectly polished shoes tapped against the cobblestone streets as he strode down them.
With a plan on his mind, he went to your quaint home nestled just outside the trees. He came to a stop in front of your door, giving it a few brisk knocks. You answered shortly after, a look of surprise flashing across your features.
"Oh. Hello, your majesty." You greeted with a small curtsey. "What brings you here?"
"I wanted to invite you to the castle for dinner."
Your eyes widened, cheeks flushing.
"Me?"
Yeosang nodded.
"Why?"
"You see, I've decided to do something special and choose one person to come have dinner at my castle, as well as receive a personal tour of the place."
Your eyes sparkled. "Really?"
"Of course, my dear."
"Wow." You placed your hand over your mouth in shock. "I can't believe this."
"Do you accept my invitation?" King Yeosang asked, awaiting your answer.
"Yes, absolutely!"
"Wonderful. Here are the arrangements." The king retrieved an invitation from inside his coat, handing it over to you.
You stared down at it, the date and time written on the decorative parchment in perfect calligraphy.
"I'll see you then, my dear." Yeosang waved as he walked away, a sinister smirk tugging at his lips once he was turned away from you.
You were immensely excited about having dinner with the king. You always thought he was a rather attractive young man and couldn't help but feel giddy at the fact that he chose you of all people to come to the castle. He could have chosen any one else, but he picked you.
You couldn't help but wonder why he was allowing a citizen to have dinner with him.
King Yeosang has never had anyone by his side. He's ruled the kingdom on his own ever since he took the throne. Perhaps he was holding this dinner to find a queen of his own.
You let out a gasp as the thought crossed your mind. If that was the case, did that mean he was considering you to fill that position?
You were quick to shake the thought away, not wanting to get ahead of yourself.
"There's no way." You chuckled. "That couldn't possibly be it."
Instead of allowing yourself to be delusional, you chose to settle on the possibility that he just wanted to build a better relationship with some of his citizens.
The number of days until your special night with the king dwindled down to zero. You spent all afternoon searching your wardrobe for the perfect dress, planning your look accordingly. You couldn't believe how lucky you were. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity and you didn't want to squander it. This would be your first proper meeting with the king and you wanted to make a good impression.
Once evening rolled around, you got yourself ready for your special night. When you were done, you stepped outside, ready to head towards the castle. You came to a halt when you saw a carriage sitting in front of your home.
"Miss Y/n. The king sent me to bring you to the castle." The coachman informed you.
You were surprised, and somewhat flattered, that he sent a carriage to take you to the castle. You had never experienced anything like that before.
Without wasting a moment more, you stepped inside the carriage, your heart racing.
Yeosang stared out one of the windows in his chambers, watching for you. It didn't take long for the carriage he sent to roll up at the entrance.
"Finally."
The king couldn't stop the evil smirk that tugged at the corner of his mouth. His plan was beginning to be put in motion.
"Your majesty, are you sure this is a good idea?" The mirror asked.
"It's the only way I'll ever be satisfied." Yeosang responded, impassively before striding out of his room and into the foyer.
He put on a fake smile when he greeted you, welcoming you to his home before escorting you to the dining room where he allowed you to take a seat at the opposite end of the large table.
"You have a wonderful home." You complimented as you sat down.
"Thank you." He then called for his kitchen staff to start bringing in the food.
The meal the staff had prepared looked amazing. You thanked them and let them know how delicious it looked.
Yeosang's jaw tightened as he watched the exchange. Even his own staff seemed delighted by your presence and kind compliments. It angered him.
"Just eat it." He demanded, his words coming out much harsher than he intended.
His anger was getting the best of him.
"Oh. Of course." You responded softly, reaching for your fork.
Yeosang gave a sharp glare to the kitchen staff, causing them to scurry out of the room.
"This is really good." You told him.
"Wonderful." He responded, trying to make his tone light.
Yeosang could hardly stand it. You where right there, just mere feet from him. His eyes moved to the steak knife sitting on the table, his mind wandering to dark places.
No. He thought. Stick to the plan.
All he had to do was endure you for the rest of dinner, then his plan would come into play.
"The townspeople are quite fond of you." King Yeosang spoke up.
"They are?"
"Of course. Do you not see them staring?"
You shook your head.
"You don't see everyone looking at you with adoration?"
You shook your head again.
"My." He chuckled. "You're an oblivious one, aren't you?"
"I—"
"The townspeople adore you. Their faces light up when they see you."
"I like to greet everyone I pass down the street."
"So you do." Yeosang murmured.
"Is there something wrong with that, your majesty?" You inquired.
Yes.
"No. Not at all." He lied.
You were so blissfully unaware of what you put him through on a daily basis, it was sickening.
Dinner had ended and Yeosang could finally begin the next part of his plan, but not before you stopped to compliment the cooks on the meal. They were so happy to get that praise from you. Yeosang tried not to let it bother him, but seeing how they smiled at your words made him livid.
"Come along, Y/n." He told you, trying to keep his tone light and friendly.
He led you through the halls, droning on about items in his home. It wasn't anything interesting. He was only trying to waste a bit of time. Without anyone noticing, he slipped something in your drink. Not anything dangerous, just something to make you a little drowsy for a short while, just in case you tried to put up a fight later.
"This painting here has been passed down for centuries." He pointed.
You nodded, feeling your eyelids become a bit heavier.
"Are you alright?" Yeosang asked, feigning concern.
"Just feeling a little sleepy."
"I see. Well, the tour is almost over. There's one last place I would like to show you."
You hummed in acknowledgement, following him down the hallway and through a door. The air becomes significantly more humid as you enter an area with stone walls. You pay no mind to it and continue trailing behind Yeosang.
"This is the dungeon." He told you. "Come closer. Have a look."
You moved towards the only cell, looking at the bars that were rusted with age. Yeosang opened the door causing it to groan and creak.
"It may be old, but it still does the job." Yeosang commented.
You took a step forward towards the opening of the cell.
"It's empty." You mentioned, taking notice of the lack of prisoners in the dungeon.
"It won't be for long."
You were about to ask why when you were shoved forward, falling onto your hands and knees, the sound of the creaky cell door being slammed shut. You gasped, turning to see Yeosang standing outside the prison cell with a smirk on his face.
"Oops. My hand slipped."
You scrambled to your feet, hurrying to the door, grabbing onto the bars, shaking them. The door wouldn't budge.
"The door is stuck."
"Yes. How observant of you." The king spoke in a sarcastic tone.
"I need to get out of here."
"I'm afraid the door is locked, my dear."
"There has to be a key."
"Oh, there is." Yeosang retrieved an old key from his suit jacket's pocket, waving it in the air.
"I... I don't understand."
Oh, Y/n. You're so naive.
"You're trapped." He stated, bluntly.
"But why? I didn't do anything."
The king scoffed. "I believe you need time to think about that."
He turned away, his cape billowing behind him as he left the room. The further he got, the more your heart sank. What did you do? You had never met the king before, so why was he so cross with you?
You slumped down on the cot, your eyelids feeling heavier than they had earlier. You were so tired. Maybe if you went to sleep, you would find out that this was all just a dream.
Yeosang sat in his chambers feeling more proud than ever. His plan actually worked.
"How did it go, your majesty?" Mirror asked.
"All went according to plan."
"Well, how do you feel?"
"Right now? Proud."
"I would like to say I'm happy for you, but I believe you've made a horrible decision."
"Well, I think I made the right decision. You'll see."
The next day, Yeosang sprung out of bed with a pep in his step. He strolled over to the window and looked out. The townspeople appeared to be going about their business, not noticing your lacking presence. He smirked to himself before getting ready for the day.
He spent part of the morning watching everyone through the magic mirror, pleased to see that none of them were questioning why you weren't around.
"Your majesty, don't you think you should check on the girl?" The mirror spoke up.
"Let me see her."
The scene of the town was replaced with you stuck in your prison cell. From the looks of it, you were still sleeping. You were curled up on the little cot with your arms wrapped around your small frame. Yeosang felt his chest tighten at the sight of you, but chose to ignore it.
You looked feeble all curled up like that.
Perhaps he should check on you.
You were still asleep when he arrived, but his footsteps woke you up. You pushed yourself up, your body feeling heavy from sleeping so deeply.
Lifting your head, you saw Yeosang standing outside your cell.
"Good morning, your majesty."
He didn't say anything.
"I don't know what I did, but I'm very sorry." You told him.
He scoffed in response. "You don't even know what you're apologizing for."
Even locked in a prison cell you were still unbearably polite. He hated that.
"If we could just talk about it, I'm sure we could work something out." You reasoned.
"There's nothing to talk about."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah."
"If you're upset about something, especially if it has to do with me, I'm more than willing to listen."
"I don't need you to listen." He snapped.
"I see." You murmured.
Without another word, Yeosang turned away and left the dungeon.
You slumped against the cold wall, your hands resting in your lap as you gripped the fabric of your dress. There was a few stains on it and it felt absolutely filthy. The damp air in the dungeon didn't do you any favors. Your hair was frizzy and your whole body felt sticky from the muggy atmosphere. The situation you were in was dreadful, but you refused to let yourself get discouraged. You weren't the type of person to lose hope so easily.
Yeosang told himself he would only come to see you to bring you food and water. That was all. He refused to go down to the dungeon unless he absolutely had to. However, once night fell, he kept thinking about your curled up figure that he saw this morning through the magic mirror. So, he returned once more to the dungeon with a blanket in hand.
"Here." He threw it into the cell before turning on his heel to leave.
You picked the folded cover up off the concrete floor, dusting it off.
"Thank you." You told Yeosang, your tone warm and sincere.
He froze for a moment, then went on his way without saying a word.
Days passed by, then weeks. Yeosang would watch you through the mirror, sometimes getting a tight feeling in his chest as he observed you trapped in your little cell. He would sometimes come and check on you, bringing you food and water. He tried not to go down to the dungeons any more than he had to, no matter what he was feeling.
You were still kind as ever, greeting him whenever he came down to deliver you a meal. You would ask how his day was and thank him for bringing you food. He hated it. He wanted you to be miserable and it didn't seem like you were.
Yeosang thought things would be different by now. He thought you would be begging to come out of the cell and that everyone in town would forget about you and focus more on him.
He even went out one day just to see if the response towards him would be different since you had been gone for a while.
Everyone he passed greeted him, bowing their heads and murmuring, "Hello, your majesty." But no one seemed happy to see him, even if he gave them his best smile.
He tried to hold in his anger as he continued down the street only to have it boiling over the edge after overhearing some of the male townspeople talking.
"Where's Y/n? I haven't seen her in a while."
"Me either. Now that you mention it, it's been weeks since I saw her out."
"Is she okay?"
"I hope she's not sick or something."
Yeosang didn't stick around to hear anything else.
As soon as he got back to the castle, he rushed to the dungeon, his anger fully taking control.
When he stormed in, you jumped up from your cot, startled by his sudden entrance.
"They're still talking about you. Why are they still talking about you?" He growled angrily.
"I'm sorry, but I don't know what you're talking about."
"The townspeople! All I hear is, 'Where's Y/n? I haven't seen Y/n. I hope Y/n is okay.' and it's infuriating. I'm the king. People should be focused on me."
Your brows pulled together in confusion. "I don't understand."
"You're so oblivious! The guys all look at you with adoration. Their faces light up when you flash them a smile. No one does that to me."
You were taken aback by this revelation. King Yeosang was angry because the people in the kingdom are more focused on you than him? That's why he locked you in here?
"Oh my." You placed your hand over your mouth, processing everything. "I'm so sorry, your majesty."
He only stood, staring you down with an emotionless expression. Even now, you were referring to him as your majesty and being so nice. It made him mad.
"I had no idea. I didn't know everyone felt that way. I was just being kind. I didn't know it effected you so much... or the townspeople."
"Well, now you do."
Yeosang turned around and left the room, unable to stay there any longer. The kindness you had consistently shown him was beginning to eat away at him little by little. He knew if he stayed in that dungeon any longer, he would crack.
He stormed into his chambers, slamming the door behind him.
"I don't understand. I have her trapped in the dungeon but I don't feel any better. The men in the kingdom are asking where she is. She's gone, but they're still talking about her."
"What do the men have to do with this?" The mirror asked.
"Men? No. I didn't—I didn't mean that. I mean the townspeople in general." Yeosang clarified, stumbling over his words.
"I thought you were mad that it wasn't you getting the attention?"
"I am. She's gone, and yet, no one bats an eye I pass. They're all too busy worrying about her. She's just another person living in the kingdom."
"Seems to me like your plan didn't work out the way you had hoped."
"We don't know that yet." Yeosang pointed, angrily.
"Your majesty, it's been weeks. Three to be exact. Nothing has changed. All you've done is make the townspeople worry."
Yeosang's jaw tightened.
This is not what he wanted to hear.
"She's being so nice to me. I locked her in a cell and she hasn't tried to escape. She hasn't even yelled at me. It's driving me crazy." Yeosang ran his fingers through his hair, tugging at the roots out of frustration.
"I think you like her."
"What?"
"I believe your feelings are mixed up. You didn't trap her in the dungeon so you could be the center of attention—you want her all to yourself."
"I beg your pardon?"
"You're angry that she's being nice to you because you feel bad for locking her up and you feel like you don't deserve her kindness." The mirror continued.
"No." Yeosang hissed. "That's not it at all. You think you know everything, but you don't."
"You're easier to read than you think, your majesty."
Yeosang was ready to smash the mirror to pieces. Instead, he grabbed a cape and threw it over the mirror, covering it up before storming off.
"You'll realize it sooner or later." Mirror told him just before he left the room.
Needing to be somewhere alone to simmer down, he went to the balcony overlooking his garden. His fingers gripped the concrete railing as he clenched and unclenched his jaw, his chest moving up and down as he tried to steady his breathing.
Was the mirror right?
Yes. His subconscious answered.
Yeosang squeezed his eyes shut.
There's no way he liked you. He couldn't possibly like you. Everyone liked you, but not him. No way.
If that was the case, why did his heart feel warm every time you spoke to him?
His head dropped as realization hit him.
Yeosang liked you. He liked you a lot.
And he locked you up. You've been alone in that dusty, old cell for three weeks. He hardly spoke to you, hardly gave you things besides food, water, and a single blanket. He was horrible. Why did he think that was a good idea? Feeling heavy with regret, he stepped back inside, heading down to the dungeon, dragging his feet as he went.
You heard the light thump of shoes against the stone steps, watching as Yeosang entered the dungeon, his head hanging low. His body language was unusual. Normally, he came striding into the room with a sour look on his face, but today was different—much different.
You watched as Yeosang pulled a key from his coat, placing it into the lock on the cell door. There was a quiet, metal sound as he jiggled the key, followed by a click as the cell door was pulled open.
"Go." He said.
"I'm sorry?"
"I said go." Yeosang didn't make eye contact with you as he stood with the cell door open. "Locking you in here was a horrible idea. I don't know what I was thinking. You can go back home."
You slowly stepped out of the cell. Then, you did what Yeosang never expected you to do.
Instead of running out of the dungeon, you hugged him. His body stiffened in response.
"You're a lot kinder than you realize." You told him.
You pulled away, giving him a warm smile.
"Goodbye, your majesty."
You were more than relieved to finally be set free. You hated being trapped in that cell, but you knew you'd be set free eventually. Seeing that Yeosang seemed to come to his senses was reassuring.
You had a lot of time to think while you were locked up. First, you thought about how deceiving Yeosang was. He always seemed like a nice person, but he wasn't. Then, you began to realize he was just troubled, lonely, and confused. Despite having a negative outlook on him at first, you decided to be nice. That's just the type of person you were. Seeing that you were now able to go home, you couldn't help but think that maybe all that kindness paid off.
As you headed up the steps and out of the dungeon, Yeosang called for you.
"Wait!"
Hurried footsteps followed after as he tried to catch up with you. You paused, wanting to see what he would say.
"Your dress is dirty and I'm sure you'd like to bathe."
He was right. You desperately wanted (and needed) a bath. You didn't exactly have access to amenities like a bathtub while locked up.
"I—"
"Please." He cut you off before you could even begin your sentence. "It's the least I can do after what I put you through."
"Okay." You nodded.
He let out a huff of relief. "Follow me."
You wanted to be wary of his offer and wonder if he had some ulterior motive—a second trap for you to fall into, but you couldn't seem to think that way. Based on the way he came dragging into the dungeon, you could tell he was feeling immense guilt.
Once upstairs, Yeosang led you to a bathroom where he asked you to wait while he got you a fresh change of clothes.
When he returned, he still wouldn't look you in the eye.
"Here you go. It's all I have."
You glanced down to see a folded up dress shirt and a pair of navy trousers.
You thanked him and stepped into the bathroom, your eyes immediately landing on a shower. Though you'd be thankful for anything, you were happy to see that the king had a shower. You were filthy and preferred to shower rather than sit in a tub full of dirt and other yuck that's built up over the past few weeks.
After thoroughly cleaning yourself, you felt much better. The clothes Yeosang had provided you with were a little baggy, but nothing you couldn't handle. You looked down at your soiled dress as you left the bathroom.
"I owe you an apology."
You jumped at the voice, lifting your gaze to find Yeosang standing in the hallway.
Did he wait for you?
"I shouldn't have locked you up. My reasoning was completely uncalled for. I was being selfish. I don't know what I was thinking."
"Thank you, your majesty."
"Don't." He held his hand up. "I don't deserve that title. Just Yeosang is fine."
He still wouldn't look at you. His eyes wandered anywhere but your face; he was ashamed. He was a king for goodness sake. He shouldn't have been acting the way he has been. While avoiding eye contact with you, he saw the dress you wore when you first arrived to the castle. It was a little stained and looked dingy from being exposed to the humid air and dirty floors
"I can have that cleaned for you." He spoke up, gesturing to your dress.
"Oh. That's alright." You politely declined.
"No. I insist. Please, just let me do this for you."
You gave in, handing the dress over to him. If getting your dress cleaned would make him feel better, you would allow him to do so.
"Thank you." He bowed his head. "Can we talk?"
"I suppose."
He handed the dress off to one of his castle staff and the two of you went out in the garden. You kept your arms wrapped around yourself, feeling the awkward tension in the air.
"I need to explain why I did what I did." He took in a deep breath, preparing himself. "At first, I was angry that you were getting all the attention because I felt it should have been me. I thought that's why I was mad. Then, I realized the real reason why I felt that way. I was jealous that the men in the kingdom were fond of you and so I locked you up to have you all to myself."
You were taken aback. Hearing his sudden confession made the whole situation a lot weirder.
"Goodness." You muttered. "I... I don't know what to say."
"You don't have to say anything. I just wanted to get it all out there."
If Yeosang was jealous and wanted you all to himself, did that mean he liked you?
You turned to the king.
"Thank you for telling me. I think I'll be going home now."
"Wait. Do you want something to eat? I can have my cooks make something."
"No thank you. I think I just want to go home."
He seemed upset, but nodded. "I understand. I'll get your dress back to you as soon as possible."
You bid the king farewell and left. The atmosphere between the two of you was awkward. He was feeling guilty for what he did and appeared to be trying to make up for his behavior. You were forgiving, but didn't really feel like staying at the castle any longer than you had to.
A few days passed and you returned to regular life, falling back into your normal routine. Some of the townspeople bombarded you with questions, many of them genuinely concerned about your abrupt disappearance.
"Are you alright?"
"Where have you been?"
"Did something happen?"
You just brushed them off, saying that you were feeling a little under the weather. Despite what you went through, you wouldn't dare tell anyone what Yeosang did. You wanted to keep it to yourself.
You were currently at home reorganizing your bookshelf when there was a knock at your door. You put a pause on what you were doing and went to see who was at the door. Upon answering, you saw a box sitting on your doorstep. You also saw Yeosang hurrying away.
"Hey." You called out.
He froze, slowly turning around.
"What are you doing?" You asked.
"I was just returning your dress." He said.
You picked up the box adorned with a gold bow, glancing down at it.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome." He nodded. "Well, I'll be going now."
"Wait."
He stopped, turning back towards you.
"I have so many questions."
You'd be lying if you said you hadn't been thinking about what Yeosang told you. It's all you thought about since returning home. You weren't sure how to accept his apology or even if you wanted to.
You always thought the king was handsome and you did kind of wanted him to like you, but after what he put you through, you were reconsidering the way you felt about him.
You watched from your front door as Yeosang chewed nervously on his bottom lip before speaking up.
"I'll answer them."
Minutes later, you found yourself sitting on your patio with Yeosang seated across from you.
"I'm going to be honest with you, I thought you were a wonderful person. I was so excited when I was invited to the castle, but you tricked me."
"I know. I'm truly sorry."
"Yes, well, I appreciate your apology." You pressed your lips together. "I do want to know something, though."
"What is it?"
"Why did you want to keep me all to yourself?"
"I told you it was jealousy, but it was also the fact that I like you."
"You didn't really act like it."
"I know." He fiddled with the rings on his fingers, clearly nervous.
"I'm not a vengeful person, you know. I also meant what I said that day. You are kinder than you realize. You locked me in a cell for three weeks, but you were also able to come to your senses and do the right thing. So, I'm choosing to forgive you."
"You are?"
You nodded.
Yeosang felt like some of the weight that had been on him was lifted when you said that. However, he knew he would have a long way to go. After realizing just how much he liked you, he wanted to right his wrong and maybe even get a chance to make you his for real—the right way.
"I hope it's not too much to ask, but I would like it if we could get to know each other the proper way. I'm sure you don't have the same feelings as I do, especially after what I did to you. But, at the least, I'd like to be friends with you."
"Friends?" You questioned.
He nodded.
You knew Yeosang meant well and that he truly had changed, but it would take some time to fully trust him. Pursuing a relationship with him was something that was currently out of the question, but maybe in time you could work towards that.
"Truth is, I've always thought you were a handsome person. Of course, I don't know all that much about you."
"Right." He nodded.
"We can start with being friends." You told him. "We can work from there."
"That's alright. I absolutely understand. Truthfully, I'm just thankful that you haven't decided to shun me—or worse."
"I told you, I'm not a vengeful person."
Silence settled between the two of you.
"Well, I'd better get going." Yeosang stood up absurdly. "Thank you for your time."
He quickly said his goodbyes and started to head out.
"Yeosang." You called out.
He paused. "Yes?"
"I'm always open to spending time together. Just let me know."
A soft smile pulled at his lips as he nodded. "Will do."
With a final wave, he went on his way.
You were well aware of how odd your situation was. You agreed to try and be friends with a man who trapped you in a prison cell. However, he was a troubled man and someone who clearly didn't have his thoughts together. He needed someone to show him the right path and that someone was you.

Don’t mean to spam but I also had an observation about Asriel. I noticed during most of their king arc they wear really big, wavy clothes. I think this is probably to play up their royalty aspects but it also seems like a way to defend herself. Considering the whole turning into flowey part, it does do a good job of hiding them. So maybe Ruler can have big clothes too?
Hmmm maybe! I wanna be careful and make sure ruler doesn't take too much inspiration from Asriel’s king design cause I don't want to imply they're based on someone's perception of Asriel
For example: queen is a "mother"board, the computer that controls the whole system. She sees Noelle grow up online through her interactions with the internet. She is her lived experience as a physical object given life. She is not literally related to Noelle but still has the same motivations and goals a mother should- encourage your child to succeed and be happy. (Even if it's a cartoon super villain idea of how to do it)
Ruler is Asriel’s crown given life. They'd see Asriel get influenced by the corrupted governments and see those leaders as idols. (Asriel doesn't but the crown, wanting to be seen as a justified ruler, would. Asriel plays an act, performs that corruption. Ruler lives as that mask and role)
So Ruler isn't literally the embodiment of Chara and Suzy's views of adulthood just as Queen isn't literally the embodiment of Noelle's perception of her mother. They both just happen to fit that role as defined by their backstory as objects.
Ruler should look like a royal who's been trying to become more corporate, while fighting off nature to fit into the "selling the garden" theme. I'm unsure which to lean onto?? Business or royalty. Obvs the crown is a symbol of royalty but their goals are all business related. Hm.
But yeah I want it to be visually clear ruler isn't a part of Asriel or Chara nor that they're either's view of each other. So no long curly hair or the same silhouette as Asriel. That said maaaaybe showing the big clothes would be ok as it's more so sharing the "mask" that asriel wears and Ruler would want to embody that
With this perspective of Ruler's backstory its given me a lot to think about, as well as their gender and how that crass would manifest. Hmmm. Cause Asriel is a nonbinary leftist trying to pretend to be a Big Capitalism king to impress and satisfy various human politicians. Rulers is that fake role personified and less so what all of adulthood's bad traits. Should the "all the sinful/bad parts of adulthood" be simplified to "corrupted royal turned to business"?
cause like, Queen is allowed to embody leadership and be a weird interent shitposter and a mother figure to Noelle.
I want Ruler to be both the corrupted political mask as well as a sinful adult as it adds to that theme and makes it less 1-note
'Oncler-acting ass but with a mix of general shitbag adult" is how I'd describe them

@bytepire sent: talk about lizzy and doll! your thoughts on their relationship, lizzy's opinions on the absolutesolver program that doll is using, just gimme allll the deets
Let me ramble | VERY SELECTIVELY accepting
// OOOHOHOHOHOHO, FASTEN UR SEATBELT, 'CAUSE I AM GONNA GO ON ABOUT LIZZY AND ALL THAT'S HAPPENED TO HER AND HER FRIENSHIP WITH DOLL. Although I am gonna try and put everything in order so that my ramble about her truly makes sense, so bear with me here.
// So to start, before everything went down, Lizzy's life was pretty much great. She was one of the most popular folks in RoboPrep school alongside her best friend Doll and some others, and they would do everything together-- from slumber parties to ditching class to teasing the Purple scrub who's always rambling about killing all humans and railguns. Life, as they both know it, is great-- they wouldn't have it otherwise.
Doll is the friend she's known the longest, as they met when they were literal Babies/Untrained Neural Networks. She doesn't even mind Doll and her family's faulty vocal chips (which make them speak Russian rather than common). Though to be fair, it's not something drones would mind anyways as they are programmed with a built-in translator in their brains, but I digress. In fact, it was thanks to Doll that Lizzy learned she likes girls. Doll happened to be her first crush, too.
Then, the Purple Scrub leads the murder drones to the colony, and while some drones die and most survive, there IS a major difference afterwards. For starters, Doll is more... quiet. Distant. Not as happy as she used to be, as if something happened to her. And when Lizzy asks? Doll reveals that her family had been killed by a murder drone that calls itself 'V'. Lizzy at first assumed she's joking (as her own father survived so Doll's parents must have too), but when she actually goes to Doll's house that weekend? She realizes that it wasn't a joke. Doll's parents are actually dead. It's... a shock, but Lizzy doesn't think about it too much. Until one day, by circumstance, a murder drone sneaks into her room with intention to kill-- the same drone that killed Doll's mom and dad. But while initially frightened, Lizzy manages to keep V from killing her by feigning immediate attraction to her and promising 'friendship'. V is confused slightly, but views it as a chance to trick a dumb worker into letting her kill everyone and... goes along with it.
Doll eventually discovered this when Lizzy shared a photo of herself and V by accident, and so shecalled Lizzy over saying "I want to show you something". Lizzy, of course, visited her bestie, and what happened next shocked her; Doll stated that ever since her parents died, she's had this... new ability... inside of her. She even showed her some of what her new ability could do. And seeing her friendship with V, she offered a proposition; Lizzy keeps up the friendship so that Doll can get some good ol' fashion payback. Which involved killing the Prom queen candidates. Of course Lizzy was against it at first due to having a weird gut feeling about Doll's new power, but relented because Doll was her friend and no one would miss a Murder Drone, right?
Well, as the deaths counted up and Prom day grew closer, Lizzy was kept in the dark about what Doll was specifically doing with the bodies, and when the day finally came, she found herself warning V-- who she thought she'd never get attached to-- to RUN. Of course that failed, and V was trapped and Lizzy was flung away as what was basically a massacre broke out. She recovered and helped N and V fix themselves before escaping home, and after that called Doll to see if she was okay. But... nothing. No responses, even after a message spam or two. As if Doll's just... gone. And that hurts.
For the following days up until the camping trip actually arrives, Lizzy was constantly wearing a vapid facade, hiding behind empty popular girl smiles. She acts like she's 'replaced' Doll with Rebecca and some other popular drones, but... she hadn't. She missed Doll greatly now that she had just... vanished, and nothing was the same anymore. Not even wiping her feet all over that Purple-eyed freak was as fun anymore.
Of course, said freak later turns into a monster and massacres the class. And while some drones make it out alive (Lizzy included again), at this point, she is... utterly traumatized, using her phone to get her mind off of everything and not doing a good job at it.
By now, her perfect life is in shambles. She's lost a lot of people close to her, the purple freak is even MORE unapproachable and not just because of her ugly fashion sense but because she just ate almost everyone in the most violent and gruesome way possible. And Lizzy herself played a part in her snapping, for all she knows. And worst of all... Doll is gone. Following that failed plan to kill V, it's like her bestie dropped off of the face of Copper 9. She hasn't responded to any of her texts, and she's... probably dead for all that Lizzy knows.
Her best friend is dead for all she knows, and almost all of the popular kids she would even bother hanging around are all dead no thanks to that purple monster. By now, Lizzzy acts as if nothing is happening to her and her life is still the same 'alpha ritch girl', but... it's not. She's deeply traumatized from all that's happened to her, and she's wearing a smirky-face-mask to hide all that's bothering her ever since all that's happened.
She wants Doll to be okay. But the radio silence is making her lose hope. And she has no friends to talk about it to. And her father (AND teacher) is practically apathetic to everything so he's automatically no help. If that damn purple freak hadn't led those drones here, none of this would have happened. Doll would still be here. No one would be dead. She'd... still have her perfect life.
But she can't show anyone her sadness, not now. She still has to keep that smirky-face-mask on for a little longer.
#💫 Gracie is speaking ( OOC )#💫 we just got a letter! ( ask )#bytepire#💫 Lizzy -- Headcanons#MAN i went on a tangent here haha#but this is all I gotta ramble about Lizzy for now! Boy this took a lot

COMMANDER LEXA: LONG LIVE THE NEW QUEEN
Fandom: The 100 Pairing: Commander Lexa x Fem!Reader Prompt: N/A Warnings: spoilers for 3x04, angst, death, violence Notes: Y/N = Your Name
[masterlist] [view my tag list info here] [tip me for my writing if you’d like]
TAGS: @sxturn-stars (permanent tags) // @xxstrangegirlxxx @johnmurphyisbisexual (the 100 tags)
You stood in the town square of Polis, whipping your sword back and forth as part of your last bit of training before the fight. You felt absolutely sick to your stomach thinking about what was about to happen. Your mother Queen Nia, the leader of Azgeda, had challenged Commander Lexa to a fight to the death. However, instead of your mother fighting for herself, she had named you to fight in her honour. Should Lexa win, she would remain in power. Should you win, Azgeda would take over.
Unbeknownst of everyone, you and Lexa were close… extremely close. When your mother had banished you, Lexa had agreed to help you as long as you were to stay far away from her people out of fear that you would betray her and hurt them. Over time Lexa learned to trust you and the two of you had grown closer, developing a relationship.
You knew what you had to do; you knew what your mother was like and even though you had no sense of loyalty to her, you felt you owed your people. Sure you weren’t in charge, but they were your people. If you didn’t win this battle, you’d be letting them all down. Still, thinking about killing Lexa was something you never wanted to have to do.
“Princess Y/N… It is time. Lexa will be coming out shortly.”
You turned around, spotting your mother’s second in command. Nodding, you took a breath. “Thank you.”
“Are you sure you can handle this? Azgeda is counting on you.”
“Are you questioning my capability?” You glared. “Believe me, I want nothing more than for Azgeda to be in charge.”
He nodded. “I’m sorry, Princess.”
“Of course.” You responded, mustering a smile. “Now, why don’t you go find my mother… I’ll be there in a moment.”
Nodding once again, the man made his way over to the crowd surrounding the arena. You watched him idly for a moment before closing your eyes. You’ve got this, Y/N… You told yourself. Feelings don’t matter, your people do.
With that final thought, your attention was stolen by the sound of cheering coming from the arena. You knew Lexa had arrived and now it was your turn to make your way over.
…
Standing in the arena side by side with Lexa facing the stage, you could feel your heart falling into your stomach. Though your expression was as cold as your mother’s heart, Lexa could see right through it; she knew this was killing you, almost as much as it was killing her.
“In single combat there is but one rule. Someone must die today.” Titus spoke, his voice soft yet loud enough for all to hear. “You may begin.”
Looking at Lexa once more, you both made your way over to opposite ends of the arena. You met with one of your people, who handed you a sword. Nodding in appreciation you turned around, spotting Lexa facing away from you.
Just do it. This has to be done… Just get it done as fast as possible.
Rushing towards Lexa, you made your move. Before your sword could come in contact with her body, she quickly drew her own and spun around, blocking it with her own causing you to fly forward as she jumped out of the way. Cheers erupted through the crowd, causing your body to tense for a moment. As Lexa raised her sword, you quickly followed suit, the two of you making your way towards each other. Once again, your swords collided, inching back and forth, closer to each others throats by the second.
As you pushed the sword closer to Lexa, you noticed the panic forming in her eyes. “I’m sorry… I never wanted this.” You mumbled.
Lexa’s eyes met yours for a moment, taking them in. Without warning, Lexa grabbed onto the opposite end of her sword and began pushing with all of her might, pushing you backwards.
You quickly regained your footing, swinging your sword in her direction once again. Lexa swung back before you knocked her to the ground, kicking her sword out of her hands. Quickly catching her breath, Lexa punched you in your leg, causing you to fall to your knees as she tugged your sword from your hands. With a smirk, Lexa made her way over to her own sword, picking it up from the ground.
In a panic you stood to your feet, stepping backwards frantically. What the hell am I supposed to do now?
At the corner of your eye you spotted one of Lexa’s people in the crowd, holding a harpoon. You rushed over, pushing them as you grabbed it from their hands. “Thanks.” You spoke, turning back around to meet Lexa’s gaze.
The two of you approached the centre of the arena, glaring heavily. You both began swinging once again, you managing to knock one of the swords from Lexa’s hand. As she tumbled backwards slightly, you continued you swing, her barley able to keep up. As she lifted her sword once again you took your chance, lifting your leg and delivering a swift kick to her chest causing her to fly backwards, the final sword escaping her grip.
You swung the harpoon around in your hand, walking over to her. “Game over, Lexa…” You spoke, your voice booming. Taking a deep breath, you lifted the harpoon higher, driving it into the ground with every once of strength inside of you. Before you could even take in what was happening, Lexa rolled out from under you, the harpoon hitting just her hair. Delivering a kick to your leg once again, Lexa sent you backwards as she quickly picked herself off the ground.
Both of you stood face to face once again, Lexa without anything to defend herself. You hesitated for a moment, breaking your composure. Lexa took note, using your weakness against you. She charged towards you, catching you off guard and causing you to swing the harpoon around without much direction. In only a mater of seconds Lexa had managed to knock the harpoon from your grip, grabbing it for herself. With the impact you fell to your knees once more.
Lexa eyed you for a moment before grabbing the handle and middle of the harpoon, driving the bar into your chin with such great force your head flew backwards.
With you now lying on the ground, Lexa towering over you, you took a shaky breath.
“Get up!” Your mother yelled from the stage as she stood from her seat. “If you die, you don’t die a princess, you die a coward!”
Lexa watched your mother for a moment before looking back down at you.
You closed your eyes for a moment, shaking your head. “Just get it over with, alright?” You spoke, your voice barley there.
Taking a deep breath, Lexa’s eyes remained on yours. “Jus drein jus daun.” She spoke, lifting the harpoon. You closed your eyes, awaiting the impact. After what felt like an eternity, you heard screams erupt around you.
You slowly opened your eyes, Lexa still towering over you. She smiled lightly, her gaze turning towards the crowd as you sit up, looking around. Your face turns pale as you realize what had happened; your mother remained in her seat, now pinned to it with a harpoon through her chest.
Looking to Lexa, your jaw dropped.
“The queen is dead!” She spoke. “Long live the new queen!”
As cheers began to fill your ears, your eyes remained glued to Lexa. She looked back at you, offering out her hand, which you accepted. Now standing, Lexa looked you in the eyes.
“Don’t ever be sorry…”

Your takes on gender can be applied these ways also: 1. Their species could be transphobic solely because they might view gender as unnecessary (which isn’t true, due to so many trolls being trans with no problem, so that’s out the window,) or 2. The Condesce herself or her generation created gender roles on Alternia; it would also make sense with The Signless preaching beliefs of freedom and possibly even expression, if we were to go that route. While it doesn’t fix all, it’s better than nothin
Continuing on with Signless and the Condesce, it would have actually made more sense for Sign to be a Fuchsia if society is based on blood caste, for more than one reason (I mean the political implications of a thief of BLOOD being a tyrannical emperor and what you could do with that are pretty fucking apparent but hey who gives a shit amiright) and while life can be just as politically aligned as blood, the inherent structure of blood and the way it’s broken and set up makes Sign a better fit
The bulge-nook standard is all just a bunch of useless bullshit, but it wasn’t in the past apparently; I think it’s mentioned somewhere in the comic that they’re actually close to extinction because the mother grub method is unsustainable and was created BY the Condesce? And that they actually could procreate together but they’re slowly losing the ability? Therefore you could also say that those who are still able to reproduce via encounters could be labeled differently, but that’s still shit
Continuing once again off of the whole mother grub thing (Sorry I’m spamming your inbox I just really like your think thoughts,) the only reason I could see a troll harboring certain ‘gender’ traits (boobs for example) would be for advantages in different climates, besides possible ovaries which, if trolls are more bug than human-like, don’t even make sense anyway. It’s all just a bunch of crud BUT the argument for being trans lies solely in what could remain, OR societal reconstruction I guess
I suppose HIC could have been the generation to assign gender roles to her society, but my only issue would be this: why? I pointed this out in another anon, but there’s no actual divide into “trolls who are superior for being x gender” and “trolls who are inferior for being x gender”. She’s the empress, so you’d think she’d have a preference for women - but her closest and most valued are both men. And even then, she kills indisciminately between genders. Her only preference I’ve ever seen gender-wise is that she always views women as heiresses (or, people who are possible to take her throne), and even that doesn’t entirely make sense; it can easily be explained away as Hussie trying to build a matriarchy where one just didn’t need to exist, to parallel Alternia and Earth.
To HIC, hemospectrum trumps gender. A male and female rustblood could be standing side by side, both accused of a crime, and neither would be considered more or less guilty on a gendered basis: they’d both be culled for being rust. Likewise, two violetbloods could kill a purpleblood, and the male wouldn’t be more likely to get caught than the female, or viseversa. They’d both get away scot free because they’re highbloods, and higher than the purple they killed - or, they’d both be revenge-slaughtered by other purplebloods.
This isn’t even getting into the fact that, although our canonical legislacerator is female (Redglare), the actual judge (His Honorable Tyranny) is male. So, again, we have a male in power. Yet there’s no explicit bias towards or against men.
It’s this foundational issue for trying to put a gendered system - as we understand it - on a system that just doesn’t work for it. I do very firmly believe that the trolls would have a gender system, yes; but I think it would revolve around something entirely different. More like how bee genders work; if they’re all “female”, then how do you differentiate the “gender” of bees? By focusing on what actually differentiates them societally: their roles in the hive. Queen, worker, drone - these are the bee genders. How you could implement that to Alternians, I’m not totally sure; I’d have to think on that a little more.
The Signless works well as a mutantblood for the martyr status Hussie was going for; he’s a very clear allegory for Jesus as-is, and having him be a fuchsia wouldn’t have really worked in that sense (because he would have been born into an inherent place of power, without the requirement to go through the martyr journey - and he could have much more easily set about a better, more equal structure had he been an heir than he could have being a mutant).
It’s a good way to impose on readers just how violent troll society is against those who don’t fit into the spectrum, since the hemospectrum is a class structure that was instilled by both HIC and Doc Scratch (which doesn’t exist as strictly on Beforus, except that the upper classes look after the lower). It also just allows for the equal “one troll of each caste” motif Hussie wanted to go with. So, again, this is an unfortunate instance of Hussie choosing design over lore.
That said, being a fuchsiablood - or even a mutated fuchsia, if we still want to go down the mutant route - would have been endlessly interesting. It could have completely different to see a not-so-shoddily hidden allegory. How The Signless would have attempted to go against HIC, his abilities as a Blood Player, the potentialities of him still raising a rebellion and attempting to change the entire structure of Alternia to something more Beforean - it’s definitely juicy food for thought, if nothing else.
I couldn’t find anything on the Mother Grub method being instilled by HIC, or the fact that it was unsustainable - at least, not on Alternia. Everything I’ve seen relating to Alternia and Mother Grubs very much seems to state that these are the natural ways of the world, something that wasn’t meddled with (which goes along with a theory I had with a few anons some time ago, under the “#homestuck biology” tag, wherein the Mother Grub, trolls, and Drones are actually all founded from the same ancient species, but the trolls just so happened to be the ones to evolve into intelligent life).
(Edited note: I did find something mentioning that the threat of global extinction allowed for the implementation of the caste system to begin with - as in, the hemospectrum didn’t exist until that specific point in time. It doesn’t mention anything about the Mother Grubs before or after this event, or what caused the near-extinction of the troll race. I would assume Doc Scratch, in order to force the Hemospectrum to exist in the first place, since he takes full credit for its conception. In either case, it isn’t an inability to breed that almost killed off the entire Alternian race - otherwise, even post-Hemospectrum, they would have still died out.)
Anything regarding unsustainability might be instead referring to HIC’s attempts to reintroduce the troll population to the Alpha kids’ Earth; she tries to bring lusii into the world and tries to repopulate Earth using genetic material via the Mother Grub (including for humans), but ultimately fails to do so (partly because her attempts to do so were thwarted by a clone of her lusus, partly because, I assume, human DNA isn’t compatible with the Mother Grubs).
So, unfortunately, it doesn’t look like trolls ever had the ability to mate with each other and reproduce in a more mammalian way. Which I still despise as a concept, if I’m completely honest; the trolls are clearly meant to be based on insects, are surrounded by insect-like evolutionary divergences, and breed in a very insect-like way. The idea that they ever, at any point, had a more mammalian lineage just makes no sense. That’s like saying that we descended from ancient bees instead of ancient apes.
It’s, again, one of those instances were you can tell Hussie tried to make something unique and interesting, but then didn’t fully think it through and returned to what he knew most - which is a very much more human experience.
I think the best explanation for the “gender” differences - beyond “Hussie needed a way to show male and female characters because he didn’t think to include different genders in a society that clearly needed it - probably is the climate concept. It’d be more interesting, for one, and still allow for the potential that trolls don’t have - or show - inherent sexual dimorphism. Especially because, like you said, those are very mammalian traits? Insect-based species don’t have an evolutionary need for those things.

Queen’s Favor (Mysme Jumin/MC AU 7/?)
Summary: Being a maid would be much easier if the cat would just let her do her job.
AU - Instead of joining the RFA via random text, MC is hired on as one of the maids assigned to Jumin Han’s penthouse. Nothing else about the setting has changed, the messenger and the RFA still exist, only the MC’s position has been altered.
"...I'm gonna sue him for emotional anguish."
The bed hurt her back.
The blankets were flimsy and scratchy. One of her neighbors screamed in time with the clanging of metal on sheet rock and that damn dog barked in response each time, like it thought they were communicating.
Her shower wasn't that great, either.
She stared up at the ceiling, refusing to move from the bed that felt much like she'd just went ahead and lied down on the floor. "...I'm gonna sue him for emotional anguish." Three days living in the lap of luxury just made her modest apartment feel less 'affordable' and more of 'a hole in the wall that led directly underground into a troll's cave'.
She groaned and crossed her arms over her face with a sigh. "Well. If I just got to keep that job, I could eventually afford to get that, too...never." She couldn't kid herself: one didn't ever catch up to the person paying them, or their roles would end up reversing.
The briefly flitting image of her employer stuck cleaning her big ol' penthouse somewhere did cushion the discomfort of her bed.
Regardless, the pay would go back to where it was before, but at least her workload would also go back to something easy. And the risks of the cat being mauled or kidnapped while on her watch were vastly reduced. That was good for both her job security and her lifespan.
Her phone lit in the darkness, the vibration of an incoming call just audible around the rest of the sounds of the night. The caller ID showed a bunch of random numbers she didn't recognize, however, so she rejected the call. It seemed a bit late for a spam caller, but then...maybe it was some foreign company going down a list of numbers.
Still, since she'd moved again, there was no reason not to turn the television on. Yes, her television was smaller and about 8000p less crisp than the one in the penthouse, but it was also much closer to her face while she was comfortably lying in bed than the ones scattered through that house.
She propped her hand on a cheek as she flipped channels.
And startled herself as a the middle of some loud note cut through the room. A trio of actors spun on a stage, singing some song about dogs. Was it that one stage production of 'Not All Dogs Go to Heck'?
"Someone from this city was in it, right...?" She mumbled to herself, tapping her cheek with one finger. One of her coworkers had mentioned wanting to go see it, which was the reason she knew the name.
Well. That presumed there weren't other stage plays with a bunch of attractive men dressed up as dogs in them running recently. I wouldn't know. Who has time to go to plays when there's whole penthouses to clean?
She scoffed lightly in the dark.
The final note of the song focused on some pale man that the camera tried (and mostly failed, given its distance from the stage) to zoom in on while he sang. "Now there's a dog I'd pet."
Still, once the actors broke and moved on to the next scene, she turned the channel again.
No way was she going to watch a bunch of men dancing on stage dressed up like dogs just because one of them was extremely pretty.
So of course she ended up on 'Makeover My Already Beautiful Home'.
--
The soreness was really just a placebo. Mostly. Falling asleep watching television wasn't the most comfortable position she could have laid in all night, but she refused to accept that her body was actually ruined for her normal bed.
No! She wouldn't be so weak. Three nights in a heavenly bed - two, plus a rockin' couch - wouldn't break her!
Standing in the empty apartment (really more of a house) in her uniform. This was much more familiar and comfortable. She always felt a bit guilty when ordering food from room service, and had been sure each time she sat down in her night gown on the couch to chow down on a pint of ice cream the enigmatic owner would just pop into the building suddenly. Now...! He still might pop in suddenly, but she at least knew he'd mostly just ignore she existed and let her do her job.
Speaking of her job.
While crawling under the guest bed to catch the hidden dust and hair trapped underneath, unmistakable little paws dropped down on the small of her back, walked a step over to the swell of her hips, and then evidently lost their grip and slid off to the ground with a sudden thump.
"...Really, Elizabeth?" She turned her head, too trapped under the bed to move much more without risking getting stuck (she absolutely refused to add that to the list of things her boss caught her doing when he returned home). Fortunately, the cat was in view at the edge of the bed anyway, blue eyes blankly staring at her. As if offended she had a problem.
Or maybe just offended she wasn't there to play with last night. Who knew?
"It's not my job to play with you today. I'm not gonna take a break right when I got here. Your dad would know."
"I suppose I would."
She screamed.
Also, hit her head and nearly knocked the bed down on herself.
"Ow, ow, owww!"
With what seemed like surprising swiftness - but who knew, with how hard she'd just whacked her head - hands appeared at her waist and the elbow not under the bed. The man behind her pulled her out from under the bit of furniture and righted her quickly enough to leave her dizzy. Or, again, the possible concussion.
The face of her...damn...employer...scrunched up in concern for a few moments, as he brushed fingers through her hair, apparently searching for damage. Weirdly, she was pretty sure the fingers that he withdrew from the back of her head were redder than they should be.
"You're injured."
"No, no." She shook her head, which was a mistake. The whole room spun. "It's just..a placebo."
For a terrible moment, a wave of nausea crashed through her and she thought she'd vomit right on her employer.
Fortunately, she just headbutted his chest.
--
As it turned out, it was a very mild concussion. Which was, frankly, pretty reassuring. Knocking herself out and giving herself a mild concussion just from getting startled doing absolutely nothing wrong was enough. Getting anything worse was officially Too Much.
This job was well paying, but she had a growing suspicion it wasn't his finicky nature or cat that kept people away, but the peril that somehow came with the job.
That was probably just the concussion talking, though.
She thought for a full minute that the figure sitting primly in a chair near the bed was also a result of that, but apparently mild concussions didn't cause quite that level of hallucination, as the doctor eventually spoke to him.
"...Although it wasn't my intention, it seems I caused you injury." He spoke coolly, but there did seem to be a certain amount of penitence in his voice? Yeah. She was pretty sure that was the case. It wasn't a terrible sound.
Well, anyway, if they were saying it for the record, she caused her injury. But it sounded better his way. "Technically, it was the bed."
His lips quirked up into a barely there smile for a moment. "I'll press charges on it immediately."
Charges...
Wait...was he waiting here because he'd come home with some complaint...?
Was it that cat kidnapper?! Did Mina say something?
"This visit has been paid for. And of course, you'll get your full pay for however many days you need to stay home to recover as well." He stood, taking a step closer to the bed. "If there's anything else that you need, any follow-up visits, extended time off-"
"No." She shook her head - which made her slightly less dizzy this time. Good! Getting better already! "It's fine! It's honestly not the first time I've worked through a mild concussion, and most of the time I'm not doing anything strenuous anyway. I'd rather just get back to work. Uh...tomorrow, I guess..." Since a bout of unconsciousness ending up in a hospital bed probably drained all her working hours away.
His brows knit. "What?"
"It's fine, really!" She waved her hand. "Honestly, this is all my fault anyway. If I'd been paying more attention I wouldn't have been so startled. And that last weekend left me with more than enough to cover anything frivolous!" Although it did kill any vacation plans or saving up for penthouses..
"Besides, if anyone else does your house, they won't know how to take care of Elizabeth and she'll get lonely or start shedding, and my work will be just that much harder when I get back. And they probably won't be prepared for that weird friend of yours to try to sneak in and get her anyway, who knows how frazzled she'll be by then..."
Oh, she was still rambling. She could tell because the man just stood there staring at her with an expression that said something like 'oh no, my weird maid has brain damage and can't stop talking about my cat'. Or...okay, honestly, she couldn't read his expression at all, but it's what she'd be thinking.
So she shut up.
He remained silent for a few moments, before giving a small nod. "If you're working, then the standards of your work will be the same regardless of any injury."
"Yes, sir!"
He hesitated a moment longer, before nodding and turning to leave. Evidently, now that there was no danger of her trying to sue him, he had no reason to linger. Which did make sense. Yes.
"...Wait."
He did. Huh.
"You were home really early, right? What was that about?"
He looked back at her, blinking in silence a moment, as if trying to comprehend her question. Finally, he said. "I had forgotten my watch."
Oh.
Alright then.
--
Walking back into work felt a little like walking into a battlefield.
Like the price she paid for the sweet paycheck wasn't the work itself, but the heavenly dice rolling each time she stepped inside, just to see if she got a good, normal day, or if something awful and painful would happen that would leave her sore for days over some stupid thing.
The supplies she'd brought in the day before were neatly arranged near the door. A folded piece of paper and a small box sat atop the largest piece of equipment. Likely a note from the owner.
One hand picked up the letter, while the other picked up the nondescript box. The box was a bit heavy. Which probably meant he left some kind of apology chocolate.
She had to give him credit. The man did not want to be sued.
Inside the letter read -
My apologies for the mishap yesterday.
I've been told it's best to provide a gift for this sort of apology.
In the future, please be careful with furniture.
"Says the king of jump scares."
She sighed, setting the letter on the key stand near the door, and flopped the box open.
Then nearly dropped it right to the ground.
It was a charm bracelet in the shape of a diamond, with the face of Elizabeth the 3rd painted onto the charm. More importantly, though, the chunky bracelet and charm were solid gold. Or at least they looked that way when she opened it. And also felt like it when she finally plucked up the bravery to touch them.
"This...has got to be inappropriate."
She still pocketed it, though.
She wasn't insane.

my ii m&g experience ♥
(long rambling and pic spam ahead)
arriving + waiting in line
prior to and upon arriving at the venue, i was SO incredibly nervous to the point that it nearly overpowered my excitement. my heart had been racing all week and my stomach was in knots. i’d been anticipating this very day for almost a year and i was absolutely terrified that something would go wrong. i kept having thoughts like, “what if there’s a ton of unexpected traffic backed up for hours and i miss the meet and greet?” “what if there’s something wrong with my ticket??” “what if i forget something important and i’m denied access?” “what if i DIE before i get there!?” luckily, none of my delusional fears from my panicked state of mind came true and most of my anxiety disappeared after i was given my wristband.
meeting and conversing with the lovely new friends i made in line put me at enough ease that my ability to comprehend the intense reality of the situation was beginning to vanish. everything was too dreamlike to feel real. was i really mere minutes away from meeting my idols??
suddenly, everyone started screaming. i looked up and saw phil standing at the rail. i nearly had a damn heart attack!! that’s phil! he literally looks like an angel! i heard dan’s voice from the other corner and turned around to see him right above us! that’s dan!! he glows! o m g !! there they are!! in person! holy s*** that’s actually them!!! whatever they said to us either completely went over my head or was entirely forgotten because i don’t recall any of it. this was the most surreal moment of my life.
shoutout to the girl on twitter who filmed some of this and caught my reaction after they waved and left lmao
i guess this is what my mind being completely blown looks like??!?
my adrenaline was through the roof, but i was too stupefied to feel emotional yet. my throat was drying as the line in front of me gradually got shorter. the lack of air conditioning upstairs didn’t help. i was close enough to talk to marianne (a queen, btw) about what i wanted to give them. i had a letter from a friend and two of my ii themed d&p drawings that i made into magnets. she told me she would keep them and give them to dan and phil after the meet and greet. disappointing, but understandable. i wrote my name on the magnets but they won’t have a clue who i am. oh well. here’s what they look like:
before i knew it, it was my turn to meet them. a friend i met in line agreed to film my meet and greet but was too nervous to do so once we approached our turns. although it sucks to not have footage, i fully understand having anxiety. she’s very sweet and i’d never want to cause her any stress.
the actual meeting and greeting:
before i get into the personal details and talk about my interaction with them, i’ll describe their irl voices and appearances.
i’d say they sound exactly the same in person. they don’t necessarily look any different from how they do in pictures and videos, just more radiant; especially phil. his hair somehow looks even darker irl and there’s an indescribably beautiful contrast between his black hair, vibrant eyes, and pale skin. it makes him look otherworldly. his features are sharp. dan’s stubble is actually quite prominent, even from a distance. his features are soft. there’s not really much else to say about his appearance; he’s just as gorgeous in the flesh as he is on a screen. they were just as tall as i expected them to be so i wasn’t alarmed by their height. it did, however, feel different to look up at them and see them from a new (significantly lower) angle as opposed to seeing them from an eye-level camera angle. the same can be said about viewing them on stage from a close orchestra seat.
now, onto the good part! i wish i could remember more details, but meeting them was such a blur that i didn’t feel like it even happened at all until the next day (more on that later). most of my dreams are more vivid than this memory is. my brain was majorly lagging from the moment i was far enough ahead in line to be off the stairs, and my entire consciousness seemed to exist in some alternate dimension when i walked toward their direction to be greeted. i remember one or both of them saying, “hiii!” and dan saying “thanks for coming to see us!” i remember phil instantly opening his arms and asking if i wanted a hug. i think i said, “hi! yes i do!” i remember it being so much easier to talk to them than i thought it would be. words came naturally despite having very little awareness of what i was saying and—due to being in such a daze—completely forgetting to say any of the important things i’ve always wanted to tell them. they were both so warm, gentle, and welcoming. i was too out of it to realize this at the time, but looking back, they treated me like i was an old friend of theirs; like i was someone who mattered. that warms my heart. they genuinely care about making us feel comfortable and relaxed.
dan did most of the talking. i don’t remember what either of their hugs felt like, but i do remember dan giving me one of his awkward “dan hugs” lol. dan and i were both wearing striped shirts and he said that we were “totally coordinated with our stripes” which made me WAY happier than it should have, but oh man i was BEAMING. “we are!”
when phil asked if i’d like to have something signed, i took out a print of the two portraits i drew of them. “yes, can you sign my art please?” after handing the print to them, dan said, “oh my god did you draw these??” and i responded with something dumb like, “i did! it took me like my entire life but yeah!!” i really wish i could have seen them react to my drawings, but i didn’t think to look at their faces when i showed them. in fact, i’m not even sure if i made eye contact with them at all. they complimented me on my art but i don’t remember what they said. i'm not 100% certain, but i think dan called it incredible.
dan offered to take the selfie so i handed him my phone and we all got close and smiled for the camera. i noticed from other people’s meet and greet pics that phil had a tendency to lean his head in next to fans, but i’d of course forgotten about this detail. i was so weak later on when i saw how close our faces were in the group photo, w o w !! i asked if we could take individual pictures as well and dan said, “of course!”
this is the part i remember the most clearly. taking individual pictures was almost like hugging them again, only better because i was a little more aware—i was almost able to actually process it this time. looking at them you’d expect to feel nothing but firmness and bones, but they’re both delightfully squishy; especially dan. they’re two tall adorable teddy bears. dan fondly said, “thank you philip” when phil took our picture and it was the cutest thing. after the pictures were taken, i thanked them for about the tenth time. i remember saying “thank you” and “thank you so much” to almost everything they said and did. i probably would have thanked them if they accidentally stepped on my foot or dropped my phone. they told me to enjoy the show and i thanked them once more. i wished them a good show and at some point i think i said, “it was really nice meeting you.” we waved and said our goodbyes to each other.
and then it was over.
wait, it’s over. what the hell just happened?
i literally forgot everything on the spot.
everything happened so rapidly and it ended before i had even begun to take any of it in. i really wish i could have absorbed the moment more. i wish i could have said more. this may sound silly, but none of it felt real. it didn’t initially feel like, “aah i just met dan and phil!!” instead, it felt more like, “...did i really meet dan and phil? wouldn’t i have remembered meeting them if it really happened?” i was so disappointed in myself. how was i that spaced out the whole time? i expected a more emotional experience, but it was all so surreal that i wasn’t even in touch with reality, let alone with my emotions. i didn’t know how to react, so i blanked out into a strange semiconscious state and i hated myself for it.
i went on to realize that meeting them was indeed a very emotional experience; i just needed to fully recover from my daze for it to hit me. while most of my memory is still a blur, several small details came back to me the following day bit by bit. it was enough for me to look back on and miss. it took me days to recall everything i wrote about above. i did cry. i was emotionally impacted, just not right away. it had to catch up with me. meeting them was absolutely amazing. looking at my pictures and signed artwork elates me. i actually met dan and phil!
even though i didn’t say what i wanted to, i’m grateful that i managed to talk to them at all. i was so sure i’d either stumble over my words or end up speaking in my stupid high-pitched nervous voice. i was also afraid i’d cry in front of them and i didn’t. it went smoothly and i survived. i have a few regrets, but i still loved it. i loved them.
i’d do it again in a heartbeat.
yes i was very extra with the editing but these pics mean a lot to me and i wanted them to look the best they could
what i didn’t get to say:
@danielhowell @amazingphil thank you for inspiring so much creativity, motivation, and passion within me. you guys are the reason i wanted to start drawing again. you’re the reason why i stopped immediately giving up. you’re the reason i’ve met so many spectacular people and became part of such a diverse and extraordinary community. you guys give me a reason to smile. i love you, thank you for everything ♥ - alexis

SO REPLAYING HYRULE WARRIORS BECAUSE SWITCH EDITION has reminded me a lot of all of my little headcanons about Link and the various characters in the Legend of Zelda series. So I’m gonna just spam things here and now because why the hell not? I’m a bit exhausted, feeling sick, my headache has been going off the rails between nice and making me nasueated enough to throw up, so yeah. This is how I feel better.
I’m going to start with the earliest of Link’s and just go down my list....this won’t include ALL Link’s because I really have to think of them and remind myself of them, but more of the Link’s I like and loved playing with.
Proto-Link we don’t know much about this sad man aside from the fact that Hylia is a creepy stalker who tortured him to make him malleable to her cause. Before all of that I figure he was fairly talkative to the people he felt close to--not quite to the stage of later Link’s that grow selectively more and more mute as the stress hammers down on them. I also believe this Link really loved his people. He accepted his fate and still desired to get them to safety. He’s also one of the tiredest of Link’s because of it.
Post Hylia-induced trauma I feel like Proto-Link became more quiet to almost ceasing to speak altogether. This is also one of the few Link’s I headcanon as grey-ace.
Skyward Sword Link is a little shit. Like this boy will talk a mean talk and give as good as he gets. He doesn’t start to reach that Link stoicism until his long journey by his lonesome. I think he really thinks he’s in love with Zelda, but that he doesn’t quite know what that means at the same time. Honestly I see this Link as more a biromantic young man with gay leanings. Like have you SEEN how he reacts to Ghirahim? Boy’s not straight. Not completely. But yeah he’s attached to Zelda at the hip.
I actually feel like this out of all of the Link’s gets very political in helping Zelda build up Hyrule as a Kingdom and less a few islands in the sky. I feel like he travels around a lot, eventually opening up to people, but he get’s pretty tired easily because he doesn’t like fighting. He also suffers major nightmares.
Ocarina of Time Link. This boy. THIS BOY. This little forest manchild that skipped puberty is the most, the biggest child I see as primarily selectively mute. I also headcanon him as in some ways as either abused by the Kokiri (accidental because he’s Hylian and their Kokiri so they just don’t know, or on puporse because they are Farore’s people and Link has A Destiny for the Goddesses that he needs to be a specific way for) He’s the quietest of the Link’s but really grows into himself as time goes on. I honestly see this Link as pseudo-masochistic, heavily sarcastic when he does start to speak, and a sass-master galore. He’s also like straight up just bisexual (Malon, Zelda, Ganondorf, Shiek...all these people should stop being attractive, especially when Link later learns that ZELDA IS HIS SISTER THIS IS NOT COOL) and definitely has some development issues he has to deal with because of how he was raised.
Navi helps pull him out of his shell, but she’s not exactly the greatest being to be doing so. I mean...I kind of see Navi is almost straight up insane so, there’s that. He did have a kid crush on Saria but he grew out of that eventually. He’s also scarily codependent about Navi down the road given all they went through.
This Link also...well, Zelda accidentally erased him from history when she ‘sent him back’ so there’s that.
Wind Waker Link to me is not Link. This feels more like Collin from Twilight Princess given the mantle of Link and fits a little nicely with the whole ‘when Ganondorf broke free Link wasn’t there to save the day’ shit, since, y’know--there’s precedent for Link saving the day. Plus the Triforce is broken which to me can only happen between a mix of things. Either it was removed from Link forcefully, which he can see is possible in later iterations, or Link was removed from time (hence my whole idea about Link being accidentally erased by Zelda)
Twilight Princess Link / Majora’s Mask Link I feel are both the same Link and post Ocarina of Time Link. Like Link’s search for Navi and eventual ended up in Ordona is all tied together. He’s quieter in Twilight Princess and post Majora because Majora broke something in him. He lost Navi. Not only did he lose Navi he was forced to relive three days over and over until he fixed what was broken. Majora Link was aged weirdly because of this, then there’s the masks and--yeah. Is it any wonder he decided to forget?
The old skeleton thing I feel like is actually Link and Zelda’s dad from OoT who searched for baby Link after the Queen vanished into the forest and--there’s a whole reason why that is. Ask and I’ll be happy to go more in depth. I don’t feel like that guy is a prior Link. Doesn’t feel right.
Also totally in love with Midna.
Hyrule Warriors Link is gay as all hell. He pegged Shiek as secretly Zelda from the get go, doesn’t understand why all these girls are after him, is mostly very soft spoken, and finds himself weirdly attracted to all of his enemies somehow (Ganondorf, Ghiarhim, Zant...he doesn’t get it)
Breath of the Wild Link is canonically selectively mute and we have an explanation for why--the stress of it all. He’s also, to me, irrevocably in love with Midna and sees Zelda as a maybe-friend post everything. I don’t see this Link getting it on with anyone else. He also tends to be a bit flexible about his gender which is why he has no issues with the whole Gerudo-styled-clothes thing. I also feel like this Link is way post Hyrule Warriors primarily because the Triforce isn’t a thing that’s like stressed anymore? It’s not important, it doesn’t tie him and Calamity Ganon together--it just isn’t a THING. Instead Zelda’s connection to her Goddess blood is, and the sword that speaks to the chosen hero--and then there’s Calamity Ganon himself and just--the whole thing screams far, far future.
Far enough that the Shiekah grew to be technologically advanced AGAIN, and then lost it all, AGAIN. That’s pretty fucking far, ok?! Plus there are other reasons why I see this and why I view this Link in this manner.
Those are all the Link’s I feel like discussing right now. If you’re interested in my convoluted Legend of Zelda headcanons--beyond even Link! I have plenty!--ask away. I always like to share, but I prefer to know I’m not shouting into the void with it.

People that have married in to the Royal Families since 1800 Spam
Sweden
Louise of the Netherlands (Wilhelmina Frederika Alexandrine Anna Louise; 5 August 1828 – 30 March 1871)
Princess Louise was born on 5 August 1828 in The Hague. Her father was Prince Frederick of the Netherlands, the second child of King William I of the Netherlands and Wilhelmina of Prussia. Her mother Louise was the eighth child of King Frederick William III of Prussia and Louise of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Her education was to large extent entrusted to her Belgian governess Victoire Wauthier, and she studied French, German, English, Russian and piano. In 1849,
Louise was selected as a suitable spouse for Crown Prince Charles, the son of King Oscar I of Sweden and Norway and Josephine of Leuchtenberg. The marriage was arranged after the negotiations to arrange a marriage between Charles and a Prussian princess had failed. King Oscar I of Sweden wished to secure royal family connections between the new Bernadotte dynasty and the old royal dynasties of Europe, and a Protestant princess was also seen as a necessary queen of the Protestant Sweden-Norway after two Catholic predecessors. Louise fulfilled these credentials, and a great dowry was expected from the rich House of Orange-Nassau. Cabinet secretary L Manderström was sent to inspect her, and diplomatically let it be known in his report that Louise had an excellent education and a good character but that she was not attractive.
In August 1849, a meeting was arranged between Louise and Charles in the Hague. Reportedly, Louise fell in love with Charles and felt an immediate attraction, while Charles in contrast was disappointed in her appearance. Charles, however, was convinced to agree to the marriage by the King.
Louise left Germany by a Swedish boat from Travemünde and arrived to Sweden with her parents and sister Marie, who were present at her wedding. Princess Louise and Crown Prince Charles married at Storkyrkan in Stockholm on 19 June 1850.[2] After the wedding, her father-in-law the King took her on a tour through Sweden to introduce her to the country.
The relationship between Louise and Charles was unhappy. The couple had dissimilar personalities, with Louise being introverted, shy and with a preference for a simple life, and Charles extraverted and with a love for parties and social life. Louise was reportedly unhappily in love with Charles, who found her unattractive and was unfaithful to her, which pained her considerably. From 1852 until 1860, Charles had a relationship with Josephine Sparre, maid of honor to Louise, which caused a scandal. Sparre was described as so dominant that the Crown Princess and her maid of honor was said to have changed places with each other and Louise being the lady-in-waiting to Josephine Sparre rather than the other way around. Fritz von Dardel described Sparre: "The lady in question is a great favorite of the Crown Prince as well as with the Crown Princess, and she governs them both entirely in everything about their daily life. Gifted with an unusual talent to please and make herself indispensable, she has managed to capture the Crown Prince to a strange degree."
Louise was given sympathy and Charles was considered to be treating her with neglect. A known episode which attracted attention took place at the birthday garden party of Louise at Drottningholm Palace in 1857, when the Crown Prince proposed a toast to his "secret love" with both Louise and Josephine Sparre present. This caused a scene, and his brother, Prince Oscar, reprimanded him indirectly by asking his own spouse, Sofia of Nassau, to toast with him. This scene caused Louise to burst into tears and suffer a nervous attack.
Louise bore two children; Princess Louise in 1851, and Prince Carl Oscar in 1852. Due to complications that arose at the birth of Prince Carl Oscar, Louise was unable to have any more children. In 1854, her 2-year-old son, Carl Oscar, died of pneumonia. As the Salic law prevailed at that time in Sweden (having been affirmed by the constitution of 1809), Louise's daughter was not eligible to ascend the throne. Charles was very chagrined and disappointed because this meant that his progeny would not be the next monarch of Sweden; his heir would be his brother Oscar. Louise offered Charles a divorce so he could remarry and produce the heir he longed for, but he declined the offer.
Crown Princess Louise was not considered a social success, and her timid and shy nature was not appreciated in society because of her official position. Between 1857 and 1859, Crown Prince Charles was named regent during the incapacity of his father, and she took over the representational duties of first lady from her mother-in-law. During her spouse's reign as prince regent, she was described in the well-known court chronicle of Fritz von Dardel: "A more lovable and talented woman would have entirely recreated the atmosphere in this circle and also exerted a good influence upon the Prince, who, of a good nature, easily let himself be led by those he likes, especially women. Although good, dutiful and not one to plot, the crown princess lacks higher qualities. She is a good housewife but thinks only of her husband, herself and those closest to her and she has not the good influence on him which her good character gives her the right to have. Because of her inborn shyness, she lacks the courage to meddle in his affairs, and her only wish is to gain his love. With one word; she seems not mature enough for her great task"
Louise became Queen of Sweden and Norway at the death of her father-in-law on 8 July 1859. She was the first queen of the union of Sweden-Norway to be crowned in both Sweden and Norway, as Norway had refused to crown her two predecessors because they were Catholics. Louise was crowned Queen of Sweden in Stockholm on 3 May 1859 and Queen of Norway in Trondheim on 5 August 1860. She was the first queen to be crowned in Norway since the Middle Ages. Louise was very celebrated in Norway during her stay there.
Louise exerted no influence upon state affairs whatsoever, nor did she show any ambition to do so. The fact that she did not meddle in politics was seen as a good role model and was favorably compared to previous queens who had, such as her predecessor, Queen Josephine, and this view is described in a contemporary encyclopedia from 1864: "At last, the two kingdoms can rejoice in the blessing of again having a Queen, who does not proceed the governmental power with her own thoughts, but calmly observes the natural process through King and legitimate authority. Loved by the Swedish people, she has enough opportunity for her noble wish to occupy herself in charity".She did not lack political views, however: she disliked the parliamentary reform of 1865, and she did not share the anti-German view of Charles.
Louise preferred to use her royal position for philanthropy, which was also expected of a female member of the royalty and upper class. She founded the charity organisations: "Kronprinsessan Lovisas vårdanstalt för sjuka barn" (The Crown Princess Louise's Asylum for Sick Children) in 1854; "Femöreföreningen till inrättande av barnhem i Lappland" (The Five Öre Foundation for Orphanages in Lappland) in 1864; "Lotten Wennbergs fond för hjälpbehövande" (The Lotten Wennberg Foundation for the Needing) in 1864; "Drottning Lovisas understödsförening" (The Queen Louise Charity Foundation) in 1866; "Allmänna institutet för dövstumma och blinda" (The Public Institution of the Deaf and Blind); "Sällskapet för inrättande av småbarnsskolor" (The Society for Elementary Education School's Foundation); "Den fosterländska föreningen till uppmuntran av själverksamhet för framtida oberoende" (The Patriotic Society for the Encouragement of Self Employments for Future Independence); and the "Tysta skolan, eller uppfostrings- och undervisningsanstalten för dövstumma barn" (Silent School, or The Nursing- and Education Institution for Deaf and Mute Children) by Johanna Berglind.
Louise was interested in music and history, and took piano lessons from the Swedish pianist Adolf Fredrik Lindblad. She translated work from English and Dutch into Swedish, which she sold for charitable purposes. Louise and her daughter were students of Nancy Edberg, the pioneer of swimming for women: swimming was initially not regarded as being entirely proper for females, but when the Queen and her daughter Princess Louise supported it by attending the lessons from 1862, swimming quickly became fashionable and accepted for women. Louise employed Sweden's first female dentist, Rosalie Fougelberg, as her official personal dentist in 1867.Among her own personal friends was Aurore von Haxthausen, who was her maid of honor her entire time as queen, as well as Countess Stephanie Hamilton, who served as her Mistress of the Robes in 1859–60: the correspondence of Louise and Stephanie Hamilton is preserved. She also kept in contact with her family and her old governess by correspondence.
Queen Louise preferred a quiet and anonymous family life and preferred to avoid ceremonial and representational duties whenever she could, some times by pretending to be ill. King Charles, however, did not like to appear without her at formal occasions and occasionally forced her to be present. On one occasion, he is known to have said to her that she would have to attend, otherwise: "The old women might think there is something wrong with you!" In 1866, for example, Charles made her open the General Industrial Exposition of Stockholm (1866) in his place. King Charles XV loved parties and masquerades, and his court life at Ulriksdal Palace was compared that at Versailles and was in some circles considered to shame the name of the monarchy, expressed by the vicar Christoffer Bruun in 1881: "It still causes as shiver that the highest power of the church was placed in the hands of this degenerated King, who has filled the whole nation with talk of his debauched life." Louise was given an important part to play in his court life as the Queen, and upon the death of Queen Dowager Desirée, who had occupied the Queen's wing in the Stockholm Royal Palace until her death in 1860, Charles redecorated it for Louise and had a luxurious Venetian Mirror hall made to her reception room, which was much talked about (it was later removed by his successor). Her court was headed by Wilhelmina Bonde almost her entire tenure as queen. Reportedly, Louise suffered from her spouse's adultery and did her best to compete with her rivals and entertain him, and her mother-in-law advised her to remove and marry away her maids of honor when Charles became attracted to them. Charles had a relationship with Hanna Styrell from 1860 until 1869 and with Wilhelmine Schröder from 1869 until his death, except from his more temporary relationships. Charles was very fond of their daughter; however, Louise was worried that he treated their daughter too much like a son at a time when gender roles were considered extremely important, allowing her more freedom than what was considered to be suitable for a female at that time.
Louise suffered from bad health. On at least one occasion, during a boat trip on Mälaren, she suffered some kind of a fit (possibly an epileptic seizure from contemporary descriptions), which was interpreted to have been a hysterical reaction to her husband's neglect. The court gathered to conceal her from public view, and the King quickly took her below deck. In this issue, it is reported that: "Lovisa could at any time faint and in connection to this, she could have what is called nerve or cramp-attacks". In 1864, during a visit to court by a former lover of Charles, Josephine Sparre, Fritz von Dardel noted: "Initially the Queen is said to have felt worried for this visit; one evening, Her Majesty was about to have convulsions in the billiard hall, but this they attempted to conceal by claiming that it was caused by her chamberlain Liljenkrantz, who was supposed to have pushed her accidentally with his billiard pole..."
In 1870, Queen Louise visited the Netherlands to be present at the death bed of her mother. Upon her return to Stockholm, Charles XV fell sick and she nursed him. Exhausted, she contracted pneumonia during a walk by carriage. On her death bed, she had long conversations with her family, which have been described as dramatic. Her daughter claimed: "It was as if mother exposed her entire life to us". Louise asked Charles to forgive her everything in which she could have failed him, to which he responded by accusing himself, after which both he and his mother Josephine reportedly fainted because they were so moved. Louise died on 30 March 1871.
