"cavalry captain."

"yes, knight?" kaeya smirked. "are you ready to lose the bet? it ends today."

"wait, what bet?" venti said, settling down near noelle.

"right, you really haven't been in monstadt for too long, haven't you?" barbara said, disbelief in her eyes. "it's the bet. you know, the one tacked in front of the adventurer's guild? katheryne has been keeping score and every time someone finishes a commission, it's all they talk about."

"yeah, six months ago, the cavalry captain and i made a bet to prove who's the better adventurer-slash-knight. whoever finishes the most bounties and commissions wins."

you all looked back to the faithful day in jean's office, some of your friends gathered around you two as you worked out the terms of the bet. jean was out on some errands, leaving the other guild members under kaeya who then proceeded to provoke you.

“get ready for the worst date ever, y/n l/n.” kaeya smirked, his hands shaking yours as you sealed off the bet. the person who finishes more commissions and bounties by the guild wins.

“and get ready for your sibling bonding with master diluc, kaeya.” you said, smirking in confidence. you will win.

“i did not agree to this.”

“paimon thinks master diluc should just go with it!”

“go y/n!”

venti laughed as lumine shrugged when kaeya gave her a betrayed look. she looked at paimon who was whispering in her ear, smiling as she whispered back. however, you were just focused on kaeya as you shook hands.

back to the present, you were both tied which, of course, heightens the excitement of those that new of the bet which was practically all of monstadt. you locked eyes with kaeya when you heard acting grand master jean's arrival, quickly running to the knights of favonius headquarters, using your vision to help you navigate along the way.

kaeya, however, was faster due to his cryo vision and you were stuck waiting outside with lisa who was asking you about the bet.

"uh, one second." you told her, walking past kaeya who just got out of the room. "acting grand maste-!"

"no, commissions will be assigned as they always were, y/n."

you turned around, making an annoyed look at kaeya who laughed at you. lisa stared knowingly at the two of you, shaking her head as she went back to the library, muttering to herself. the clock is running out with the both of you still tied which leads you to hertha who, luckily, has a bounty yet to be in progress. you quickly finish it, signing your one bounty to katheryne who verified with one minute left.

"ladies and gentlemen, i just finished another bounty and i take the lead with one minute left!" the crowd murmured against themselves as kaeya, seemingly unbothered, muttered an oh no.

"yes, oh n--," you were then taken aback. "you don't seem worried, why aren't you worried?"

"katheryne, sign this please!" your eyes traveled to the document where a picture of a group of treasure hoarders were attached. "meet these guys! last bounties of the day."

"that doesn't count, they're just one commission."

"yeah, well, they're not. they have been caught a couple of times now so acting grand master jean sent for a manhunt. face it, y/n, you lose."

"never." your eyes were manic as you looked at the blue-haired captain.

"five, four, three, two, one!" he sweetly smiled as you scowled. "it's over, i win, you lose."

you can distantly hear a "thank god" from the crowd which you paid no mind as kaeya invited venti to play. you rolled your eyes, an obvious frown on your face as kaeya dropped to one of his knees, opening a ring box.

"y/n l/n, you have made me the happiest man on monstadt. will you go on the worst date ever with me?" he grinned, whispering albeit loudly for everyone to still hear. "you have to say yes."

"..."

"hm?"

"..yes."

"they said yes~" you hid your face on your palms as lumine and paimon tried to comfort you. you dropped your hands, looking past her... at kaeya who caught your gaze. he lifted the wine glass in his hand as you looked away. you're going on the worst date, A DATE, with the cavalry captain… what could ever go wrong?
