What a coincidence that this is a fandom “for everyone,” but only as long as the characters are rich and attractive. Gonna re-post this here as its own separate post for those who want to understand what the Black Rose arc was about.

Ambessa discovered the Black Rose, a group of Noxian mages that go against the beleifs of Noxian culture to keep people in check. The Black Rose act as a sort of secret society that controls Noxian culture from the inside. Making sure that nobody ever rises too high in their eyes.

Ambessa doesn't like the idea of someone telling her she can't do something, so she has an illegitimate child with a mage. That child is Mel and Mel inherits magic powers as a result. The idea being that Mel could eventually be used to fight the Black Rose.

As the Black Rose start to suspect something is up, Mel is sent off to live in Piltover. Hidden away from them.

Mel, thinking she's been banished or abandoned by her mother, strives to put Piltover on the map by manipulating the counsel and working towards bettering Piltover's technological progress.

Meanwhile, Mel's brother starts to look into Mel's history and discovers the Black Rose stuff and get sucked into their web. He is ultimately killed as the Black Rose try to figure out if he was the illegitimate child or not.

At this point, Mel has championed Hex Tech and turned it into a great economic boon for Piltover. But when Jinx attacks the city and Hex Tech is stolen, chaos starts to throw things into disarray.

News of the attack and stolen technology makes its way back to Ambessa. Grief stricken and terrified of the Black Rose, Ambessa realizes she can finally use Mel's ambition for her own personal gain. She needs Hex Tech weaponry so she can stand up to the Black Rose once and for all.

So Ambessa arrives in Piltover's and starts getting in the ear of Jayce and pushing him towards violence.

And because of her, Jayce makes a hextech weapon and goes into the undercity to take on Silco.

Pissed off Ambessa did this, Mel disowns her mother and her heritage and tries to fix the wrongs. And just as things are looking like it's gonna be okay... Jinx bombs the counselors chamber.

Mel's powers unlock and end up protecting her and Jayce, but nobody else. Ambessa uses this chaos to push for more violence. As Mel continues to stand in her way, Ambessa chooses an even more risky plan.

Ambessa sets the undercity up for an attack on the memorial, which pushes things even further. Mel is no longer in control and Hex Tech weapons are now a real thing.

But the Black Rose have caught on to what Ambessa is doing. And at first they possess the body of a merchant head to try and get close to her, but it fails.

Ambessa is able to kill her and this causes her to panic and nominate Caitlyn to be a general.

Having failed to directly attack Ambessa, the Black Rose falls back on Mel and kidnap her. This happens to coincide with Jayce, Heimerdinger, and Ekko being caught in the Wild Rune.

Ambessa now has control of the city, but she's lost all her magical weaponry. Nobody is smart enough to make weapons for her using Hex Texh, and her magical daughter is gone! So Ambessa falls back on using Singe to make chem-weaponry and eventually tries to make an army that can't be killed.

Remember, Ambessa's only real goal is to get rid of the Black Rose. She doesn't care what happens to anyone else in the pursuit of this goal. Which is exactly why the Black Rose is getting more and more desperate. All their attempts to sideline Ambessa are failing, and now it seems like if she keep going down this path she will unintentionally unleash Viktor's machine Herald onto the population of the world and destroy everything!

So when Mel, in captivity, finally unlocks her magical abilities and proves that she was the illegitimate child Ambessa had, the Black Rose have one last chance to stop Ambessa. Recruit Mel to do it for them. They tell Mel that Ambessa's ambition will ruin the world, and they give her a token that she can use to stop her.

Mel returns to the city of Piltover and tries desperately to reason with Ambessa, but she's too far gone now. Ambessa will not stop. And her war with Piltover is fast approaching worldwide destruction.

During the battle, Caitlyn sacrifices her eye to rip off the magical armor Ambessa had been using and Mel uses the magical amulet the Black Rose gave her to stop her mother.

But Mel is an empath. She also doesn't want the Black Rose to succeed, so she steps in and prevents the Black Rose from killing her mother. She saves her mother from the Black Rose, but the damage is done, and Ambessa dies in her arms.

Mel, now realizing she is magical AND in charge of Ambessa's army, heads back to Noxus to potentially challenge the Black Rose once and for all.

i have occasionally seen this argument that disliking Jiang Cheng is a typically Western response due to difference in cultural background, apparently Western readers don't understand Jc's actions because they come from an individualist society. The argument is that Jc is only acting for the welfare of his family/sect while Wwx is being 'ungrateful' towards the Jiangs and 'obnoxiously' trying to play the hero. Now I am not native Chinese but I do come from an Asian cultural background that emphasises family oriented values and filial piety, but I've never thought Wwx was 'abandoning' his people. I'm genuinely confused how championing the cause of the persecuted can be considered misguided heroism and misplaced priorities. Do you have any thoughts on this notion of a culture gap? I'm simply curious to hear what someone else thinks of this but I'll understand if you don't feel comfortable addressing this somewhat thorny issue.

Jiang Cheng is an unfilial character who we are not meant to take as a model of filial character. He starts fights in front of his parents’ tablets in his clan’s ancestral hall. He insults esteemed guests in front of said tablets. He abandons the people who helped him reclaim his parents’ bodies and ensure that his clan could continue their lineage (now he is the only one standing in its way with his shit personality). To make matters worse, Jiang Cheng isn’t even upset at his clan’s massacre, his focus and priority is always that he lost his parents.

Meanwhile, Wei Wuxian, alone, is responsible for the current Jiang Clan’s existence because had he not existed, Jiang Cheng would’ve been disappeared by the QishanWen after the fall. There would have been no Wen Ning and Wen Qing to help. And even if they had stepped in, he would have burned all goodwill with them without Wei Wuxian as the buffer. And Wei Wuxian does all this explicitly because it was asked of him by the former leaders of the Jiang Clan. When he went into the ancestral hall, even though he was recalling true events of Madam Yu’s abuse, he still felt like it was inappropriate for the setting, apologized, and changed the subject. And when he reminisces on his days growing up in Lotus Pier, he not only remembers the Jiang couple and Jiang Yanli, he also recalls the countless people—clan members, servants, disciples, even the distant merchants and townsfolks—he came across that are no longer there.

The other thing that bothers me about the absence of Silco's influence in s2 is how there's literally NO people who are inspired by him. Like, seriously??? Especially given the fact that Jinx is still alive and active, but Silco is dead, so he can't protect his ideals anymore. Did not even one person wanted to do that FOR him? Especially since not even chembarons and his direct successors give a damn? Oh yeah, about that. Did uh. Did everyone forget that Jinx is Silco's daughter and Sevika is his right hand? Why did nobody offer that they're the ones who should take his place now?? No, but seriously. Although s2 mentions some "agents loyal to Silco" but they literally don't do anything. We're not even shown who they are. This is just straight-up clownery. In general Hollywood obsession/morbid fascination with actors modifying their weight to unhealthy degrees for roles sucks and so does the way journalism and the audience feed the mythos and reward those movies with press and promo about it (still haunted by that star trek press tour where benebitch cabbagepatch was asked continously about dieting for a scene not even in the movie, meanwhile the female actress who had a gratuitous scene in underwear it was just a normal thing, hello gender inequality). anyways as soon as i hear an actor had to diet i lose interest in ever paying for the media. no movie or series is worth the human suffering and its prevalence is yet another symptom of the dishonesty of art under capitalism

My general consensus with this fight is that it's just extra content and... in-between canonicity. They don't show up in the credits (in a scene) regardless if you kill them or not, and the pupils are alive(?) or possibly some other ones are alive as they could just look similar/be reused sprites

Fitzroy is lore for sure which contradicts some of the implications about trancending that we get but like. Royal is kind of a dumbass AND is being told all of this from mother/one concern. There's multiple implications of the "ancestors" (both isi and Him followers) coming from somewhere else/resetting the planet and leaving instructions/tech for their respective people to use. Fitzroy seems to fit in the between stage before the concern has studied the tech, but AFTER the Ancestors arrived/reset the planet. In The Tower and the Bastion there are images of famous earth landmarks (taj mahal, new York, pyramids I think) implying that some sort of Earth was destroyed/minerals drained (more connections to the themes about environmentalism) and that humanity was "reset". RIGHT BUT CANONICITY. Fitzroy is more lore... If u want him to be. The true past of humanity is still foggy ESPECIALLY with conflicting views from Him followers and the Isi. The concern claims to have longer records of history, and has aforementioned images, but they shape it to their beliefs and leave out certain parts intentionally as well as only educate people deemed more faithful (concern staff) and censor/mysticize parts for the common folk and ESPECIALLY city one residents. So before I went on my study abroad program, the school gave us a pamphlet that warned us that while traveling we would experience a "W" of feelings.

When we first got there it'd be so exciting that we'd initially be at the top of the beginning of the W The longer we were gone from home and the more culture shock we experienced, those feelings would dip into homesickness and missing people: the first bottom of the W But after that, our emotions would level out again back up to where we miss home a little less and appreciate where we are (and then we experience it all over again when we come home: the second dip in the W)

I feel like, for Ted, we started s3 at the bottom of the first dip, but then saw him go back up the other side throughout the season.

Which is why when people say that he started off sad and questioning so of course he had to go back, that just doesn't make sense to me.

'Cause of course his excitement levels for being in a new place dipped and his homesickness increased, that literally happens to everyone when they travel long term

And yeah, if Henry and Michelle had moved to England, they'd experience that first U, but it'd probably be easier for them than Ted, considering how often they'd visited and the community they already had waiting for them
