Intertwined Tails

Listen. Sometimes you just really want to draw two cat gals with their tails intertwined. Cats-pril day 4 had the perfect prompt for this ❤️

Day 4 - Tail

@storyweaverofgondor‘s Cats-pril day 4: tail! It took me a hot moment to work out what I wanted to do with this one, but I went for Jemima, who was a new character for me to write. Also on Ao3 here.

Jemima crouched down, her target in sight. She would get it for sure this time, she knew it. She had hunted this target for many moons now, no longer would it escape her!

A flash of grey flicked before her eyes, like the pendulum of the big fancy clock in Bustopher Jones’ favourite club. Her mother had taken her there with her once to see Uncle Bustopher about grown-up things, and Jemima had been hypnotised by the massive wooden clock. Uncle Bustopher had called it a “grandfather clock”. It had made her wonder then, if there were dad clocks, or mum clocks, or baby kitten clocks. She had scoured the Junkyard the next day for any evidence of this, but all she had found was an alarm clock. There must be different breeds of clock, she thought, like how Uncle Misto was a Tuxedo, and Rumpleteazer was a Calico. 

Her target swished before her again. Damn, she couldn’t lose focus like this! This was a tricky target, it required her full attention. She was crouched beneath an old coffee table, hidden from the main square of the Junkyard. Her small size was her advantage here, no other Cat would be able to fit in this space. It was perfect for the hunt.

The target was on top of the table, dangling towards the ground, right before her eyes. But this one was flighty. It was hard to catch, and never stayed in the one place for long. Even in sleep, it eluded her. 

But not today. Jemima took a deep but quiet breath, and pounced. Her paws wrapped around her target and she let out a squeal of delight, as the Cat whose tail she had grabbed tumbled off the coffee table and landed beside her.

“I got you, daddy! I finally caught you!”

“No! You got me, now I must yield the Junkyard to you!” her dad chuckled, his stripy silver tail flicking in her grasp. 

“You let your guard down, Daddy, that was your mistake!”

“You’re just too clever for me, Jemibubs, I thought you’d given up!”

Munkustrap rolled onto his back, pulling his daughter in for a hug. Pounce On Dad’s Tail had been their game for a while now, and Jemi had taken it so seriously. His Kitten would be a wonderful hunter when she grew up, he had no doubt. 

“What will be your first rule, as the new Junkyard Queen, Kit?” he asked. Jemi’s face scrunched up as she thought. Everlasting, she was growing so fast, but she would always be his cute little Kitten.

“I will make bagpipe practice every day!” she declared, and Munk let out a dramatic groan.

“No, Jemibub, Kit, please! Think of Mummy and Daddy’s poor ears!”

“Me and Uncle Tugger will play all night long!” she giggled. She wriggled free from his embrace and scampered in the direction of Tugger’s den, presumably to tell him the good news. He watched her go with a fond smile. He’d put up with the bagpipes, if only for his daughter.
