A. Z. Fell & Co. bookshop and its statues, part 2

Welcome to the second part of my insane deep dive into Aziraphale’s world of slightly outdated decor, golden-colored trinkets, and their ostentatiously Greek (especially for a representative of an originally Judeo-Christian mythology) symbolism. As a short recap, the last installment covered six pieces in the northern and central sections of the bookshop plus a plot-important medal previously displayed on one of them, but currently left with the other bibelots on the bookseller’s desk. We’ll start right there, where we previously left off.

While a lot of the bookshop action plays out in the circle between the formerly discussed statues, its office part is especially close to Aziraphale himself. As the titular Guardian of the Eastern Gate, the angel consciously spends most of his time in this small space in the Eastern part of the bookshop, confined to his desk or reading stand. This means that the decorations of this area have more personal significance and are most probably used as daily reminders for him to keep his thoughts and priorities on track as much as provide pleasant distraction from the weary eyes.

The two windowsill figures of the Art Deco dancers from S1 were replaced by a somewhat similar set of twin statues by Ernest Rancoulet called Retour des Bois (Return from the Woods). Depicting a young woman accompanied by a putto, Aphrodite and Eros, frolicking in a dance through the woods and meadows. This bucolic fantasy with Aphrodite makes some sense when we consider how Aziraphale’s personal love story started (and will presumably end) in a garden, but let’s deep deeper into its protagonists. Or protagonist, actually, because what else can be told about Love itself?

Eros as the god of Desire is usually presented in art as a handsome young man, though in some appearances he is a boy full of mischief, ever in the company of his mother. It is usually under the guidance of Aphrodite when he employs his signature bow and arrows to make mortals and immortals alike to fall in love. His role in myths is mostly complementary, as a catalyst for other mythological figures and their stories, with the notable exception being the myth of Eros and Psyche, the story of how he met and fell in love with his wife.

In short, they are the original star-crossed lovers from entirely separate worlds who meet and fall in love by divine happenstance, only to be separated by Psyche’s family. Convinced by her sisters that her husband is, in fact, a vile winged serpent, Psyche breaks his one rule and the attempt to kill the monster leads her to falling in passionate love with him. Eros flees and Psyche wanders the Earth searching for him and succumbing to a series of impossible tasks reminding of those from the Scarborough Fair ballad or the more modern fairytale about Cinderella. She ultimately fails, but is saved by the healed Eros, granted immortality and the status of his equal, after which they can properly marry with a huge wedding banquet, a real feast of the gods.

In the Christian Middle Ages, the union of Eros and Psyche started to symbolize the temptation and fall of the human soul, driven by the sexual curiosity and lust from the Love’s domain, mirroring the original sin and the expulsion from Eden.

Oh, and their Latin names? Cupid and Anima. C+A.

We’ll get back to them in a minute.

According to unnecessary but extensive research, the two mid-century table lamps standing over the desk were most probably produced in France after another unspecified 19th century sculptor like the example above, although this particular putti design can be also found in the so called Hollywood regency style of the same time period. The putto is holding onto a cornucopia, a classical antiquity symbol of plenty, which then continues to the bulb section.

The cornucopia is an easily recognizable symbol of abundance, fertility and, to lesser extant, peace and good fortune. Since the horn is phallic-shaped, but hollow at the same time, it combines intimate imagery of both male and female character at the same time, which further ties into notions of fertility. In its role as a fertility symbol, the cornucopia is also usually associated with Demeter, whose small statue is also standing on the bookshop’s counter. Which seems like a recurring theme.

I saw multiple theories about Aziraphale’s centerpiece, but somehow the truth proved to be much less significant than previously thought. This roman soldier, possibly a centurion, driving his two horses in a highly decorated chariot is made from a marble powder resin composite and takes the most visible place in the Eastern part of the bookshop even though it’s seemingly one of the newest additions to Aziraphale’s collection — its author, Lorenzo Toni, was born in 1938 and became a sculpture master by the 1970s. 

At first glance, the parallel to the Marly Horses seems obvious and we could leave it basically at what was written recently on Crowley and Aziraphale’s dynamics. But here is where instead of commenting on the antique sculpture that seems to be the inspiration behind this piece or the many intricacies of Roman chariot racing I’ll do something completely unhinged — i.e., play my Greek philosophy card.

In the dialogue "Phaedrus ”, Plato presents the allegory of the chariot to explain the tripartite nature of the human soul or — you guessed it — psyche. The charioteer is the man’s Reason, the rational part that loves truth and knowledge, which should rule over the other parts of the soul through the use of logic. One of the horses, the white one, is man’s Spirit, a motivated part which seeks glory, honor, recognition and victory. The second horse, the black one, represents man’s Appetite — an ever so hungry part which desires food, drink, material wealth and physical intimacy.

And the fun part? This triad is established to analyze the madness of love. In a classical Greek context, that is not between a man and a woman, but erastes and eromenos:

The charioteer is filled with warmth and desire as he gazes into the eyes of the one he loves. The good horse is controlled by its sense of shame, but the bad horse, overcome with desire, does everything it can to go up to the boy and suggest to it the pleasures of sex. The bad horse eventually wears out its charioteer and partner, and drags them towards the boy; yet when the charioteer looks into the boy's face, his memory is carried back to the sight of the forms of beauty and self-control he had with the gods, and pulls back violently on the reins. As this occurs over and over, the bad horse eventually becomes obedient and finally dies of fright when seeing the boy's face, allowing the lover's soul to follow the boy in reverence and awe. The lover now pursues the boy. As he gets closer to his quarry, and the love is reciprocated, the opportunity for sexual contact again presents itself. If the lover and beloved surpass this desire they have won the "true Olympic Contests"; it is the perfect combination of human self-control and divine madness, and after death, their souls return to heaven.

And such a perfect combination of the motifs already introduced to us by the two Eros statues and the Head of the Victorious Athlete.

Aziraphale might be a titular Companion to Owls (or, to be precise, the companion to one particular Nite Owl), but he had also made sure to have at least one owl keeping him company. And of course, the owl of Athena (who was interestingly both a bird and a snake goddess) is an absolutely conclusion here as the universal symbol of wisdom and knowledge in the Western culture, but it can’t be that easy, right?

In the Bible, you'll find that owls often symbolize something unclean and forbidden, as well as desolation, loneliness, and destruction. This symbolic significance is pointed out in Leviticus 11:16-17 and Deuteronomy 14:11-17 where owls are mentioned among the birds not to be eaten. Owls were considered unclean most likely because they are predatory creatures who eat raw flesh with the blood still in it, and that was an even bigger food safety concern for the biblical nomads than to us today.

Owls are also among the wild predators that have long dwelled in the desert lands and abandoned ruins of Egypt and the Holy Land. Both Isaiah and Zephaniah speak of owls nesting in ruined wastelands to paint symbolic images of barrenness, emptiness, and utter desolation. In Psalm 102:3–6, the owl symbolizes the loneliness of the psalmist’s tortured heart:

For my days vanish like smoke; my bones burn like glowing embers. My heart is blighted and withered like grass; I forget to eat my food. In my distress I groan aloud and am reduced to skin and bones. I am like a desert owl, like an owl among the ruins. I lie awake; I have become like a bird alone on a roof. All day long my enemies taunt me; those who rail against me use my name as a curse. For I eat ashes as my food and mingle my drink with tears because of your great wrath, for you have taken me up and thrown me aside. My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass. But you, Lord, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations.

It’s a devastating, but still beautiful piece that deals with the feeling of utter rejection, the ultimate bad breakup of the relationship between a human and their God. And this… simply didn’t happen between God and Aziraphale, not even during his Job job. The angel had always considered Her love and ineffability as a given, even when the whole Heavenly Host was against him during the Non-Apocalypse. His allegiance stayed with God, not necessarily Her angels. Which brings us yet again to the motion of Crowley as the owl.

The angel and the demon are the companions to each other's loneliness, but Aziraphale’s needs seem significantly bigger than their Arrangement that he even considered a wooden substitute protectively hovering over him 24/7. He seems to be the one who is the loneliest and most rejected.

Oh, and if you think that putting a small bronze statue of a putto with a bronze putto-shaped candleholder right behind it (visible on the filing cabinet in the bottom right corner) is already a stretch, let me show you what’s on the other side of that wall.

Just like before the bookshop fire, the famous sink in the small backroom is adorned with a perfectly kitschy white plaster sculpture of The Two Cherubs, a small part of a larger painting by Raphael (the painter, not the Archangel) titled Sistine Madonna. In the painting the Madonna, holding Christ Child and flanked by Saint Sixtus and Saint Barbara, stands on clouds before dozens of obscured putti, while two distinctive winged putti rest on their elbows beneath her. with bombastic side eyes and clearly unspoken, but very controversial thoughts about the whole scene and their role in it.

With an attitude like that, there’s no wonder that the putti have inspired some legends. According to one, the original cherubs were children of one of his models they would come in to watch. Struck by their posture, he added them to the painting exactly as he saw them. Another story says that Raphael was inspired by two street urchins looking wistfully into the window of a baker's shop.

The Germans implicitly tied this painting into a legend of their own, "Raphael's Dream." Arising in the last decades of the 18th century, the legend — which made its way into a number of stories and even a play — presents Raphael as receiving a heavenly vision that enabled him to present his divine Madonna. It is claimed the painting has stirred many viewers, and that at the sight of the canvas some were transfixed to a state of religious ecstasy akin to Stendhal Syndrome (including one of Freud's patients).

Their big, seemingly cherubic companion doesn’t seem to have a specific provenance, but what’s left of his limbs might suggest that it could be an infant Jesus as well as another putto. But honestly who knows at this point.

On the other side of the same room, right at the door leading to the big backroom, there are two lamps with Auguste Moreau’s Young Lovers, a bronze sculpture depicting a courting couple on the verge of a physical embrace, holding garlands of roses and hiding under some old vines. Which aligns perfectly with the beloved romcom trope of a rain shelter leading to sudden love realizations, as well as Crowley choosing this part of the bookshop to have a word with his angel in private and then offering his advice on anything related to human love. No wonder that the angel looked at him like that.

This statue carries with it more than one allegorical interpretation, intentional or not. Arguably the most obvious one is the myth of Eros and Psyche, one we already covered in this post. But similarly to his earlier sculpture, Eros also serves here as an allegory for nature and the return to the natural state itself. Like Adam in Eden, he's unclothed and symbolically crowned as a ruler of his domain. Psyche, enamored with his confidence, is about to take her own leap of faith as her fabric restraints fall away. One could say that she's tempted to follow him into nature, deep into the garden of love.

And with that exact thought I will leave you today, dear reader. Through this analysis we learnt many things, among them two significant facts about Aziraphale: firstly, he’s an utter and incorrigible romantic, and secondly, a hoarder. Forget Crowley’s souvenirs — the amount of this angel’s statues is something else. And it isn’t even his hyperfixation!

About Casca, it’s me or are they keeping her “jailed” and busy in a way that’s nothing like her ? It’s as if Griffith doesn’t remember what his ex right hand is all about… don’t get me wrong, I know he can’t give her a sword, but pretty dresses, calm days, making flower crowns with kids, who is he even kidding?

Hey Anon! Well I more or less agree but, as you said, Griffith drugged Casca so she wouldn't escape, so what else is there to do? x) At least she can go outside and see the sun...

That being said, reading the chapter, it really made me remember episode 72 during the Golden Age, when tortured!Griffith imagined what his life as Casca's companion would be:

Back then, powerless as he was after being tortured so much, he realized his dream became unachievable. Since he knew Casca used to have feelings for him and hearing that she couldn't leave him behind in such a state, he dreadfully imagined what his life would become, driven by (what he imagined was) Casca's wishes. Of course, that scared the hell out of him and he chose to become Femto soon after.

Now, in ep372, it really seems to me that it's the other way around: powerless and drugged, Casca is experiencing what Griffith's dream is all about and what life she might have had, if she had clung onto his dream like she used to do.

With Falconia, Griffith almost managed to get his kindgom, even if he still needs to wed Charlotte to get the official crown.

So if the Eclipse hadn't happened and Casca had remained by Griffith's side, like an obedient right hand woman who used to have feelings for her leader, it's likely that she would have become an honorable lady living in the castle, especially since women who are warriors a rare feat in Berserk (which btw caused Casca some feminity issues in the past).

Obviously though, that's all imaginary because the reality depicted in ep372 is pretty different from the Golden Age. As we know, Griffith became Femto and sacrificed the very people who always believed in him ; also Casca has feelings for Guts and is now Griffith's prisoner but...

...she was indeed abducted because she's indispensable to the realization of his dream, because Griffith wants to keep a good and tighter grasp over his own vessel, the moonlight child, so I find it's a cool parallel.

TL;DR what Casca is currently experiencing against her will and drugged in ep372 is probably what her life could have been like...

...if Guts hadn't made her realize that she didn't have to live by clinging onto another person's dream.

All that being said, I'm really hoping that Casca will soon get her agency back, because she deserves it and because I know she's capable of protecting herself without Guts necessarily being around, even if for that, she's going to need allies... :)) (see below)

Hey Anon! Well, don't worry, there are always several possibilities !

Casca could manage to escape the castle for a short time and to come across them for example, even if I agree it's hard to imagine it now, seeing as she's drugged.

Personally, my favorite idea is the castle needing new maids and one of the girls getting hired as a replacement, seeing "Elaine" again and wondering why she's without Guts.

Or, considering that Daiba gave them diamonds when Rickert and co left Falconia, they probably don't have to work anymore...

...so maybe they will get a glimpse of "Elaine" as a (drugged) court lady (during Griffith and Charlotte's wedding ?) and wonder why she's there, thus getting hired as maids to get in touch with her?

Either way, I think it's very likely that Luca and the rest of the girls will be Casca's first allies and will help her overcome the whole 'being drugged' obstacle. :))

As for other possible allies at a later time, I discussed it a few years ago here, but I'm interested in Casca's presence in Falconia maybe acting as a catalyst leading to more development for Zodd, Sonia & Mule but also and mostly Charlotte.

Indeed, as a fan of the few interactions we had between Casca and Charlotte back during the Golden Age (because on this blog, we dislike competition between women and support women bonding over similar goals), I'm really hoping that Charlotte will eventually realize, upon seeing Casca, that the man she loves is an absolute monster and that, as a result, she will find it in her to step up as the rightful monarch of this kingdom.

We've still got some looong ways to go before we reach this point though, obviously.

anyways I’ve lost a lot of interest in cc for the time being but here I am with a thought abt the player in motp

oddly specific but player’s the catalyst for a lot of stuff both good and bad but it’s mostly good (both in canon and as a oc in my own world),

so remembering the reincarnation thing, could you imagine the flying squad coming back to Grimsborough, meeting the person who was your best friend, co worker, someone with a heart of gold, doesn’t remember them, or all the times they were a team?

This is the same person who was at Maddie and Charlie’s wedding, helped comfort every team member with their own personal and team grievances, whether with someone else or just the player and the person they’re helping. And your telling them all those memories, are just gone? Heartbreaking, ain’t it.

No worries, losing interest in things is normal, especially when stressing over something like finals.

I imagine the reincarnated Flying Squad would be devastated to meet the player again, only to find out they didn't remember the team or the past... The team went through so much together, good and bad, so it would be heartbreaking to see the player forget all that while having a similar relationship with their new team...

Side note: Your reincarnated idea makes me want to somehow bring the Flying Squad to the modern timeline in my series... I think it would be cool to see how they could interact with the other teams! Not sure how I would do it, but I could probably come up with something...🤔

Some of your season 6 predictions for everyone as individually and in their relationships

For predictions, I'm going to be pretty general, bc anytime I go more specific, I'm usually wrong. But here's what I see for each character...

JJ's going to continue on his path of vulnerability and sincerity. He'll still cause fun chaos and will earn his spot back on the team. A wish prediction is to see a queer storyline for him, but it feels like a pipe dream at this point.

Patience will be recovering from the stabbing. I don't know if she'll even be able to sing for awhile. So she might have to look into something else for a bit if she can. She could be paralyzed with fear. Or maybe learn more about the business side of her image?

For Coop, she'll continue to pursue her passion in law. Which I think is a great path for her! Guessing we'll see her with Laura a lot too. Patience's stabbing is gonna shake her up. So she's gonna be working thru that too.

The whole catalyst for the Catience breakup was Coop getting shot which was really interesting. Instead of that near death experience bringing them together, it tore them apart. Patience was fed up with Coop carrying, not just drama, but dangerous situations with her everywhere she went. So s6 will be so interesting. Because, as almost every fan has noted, Patience practically invited the stabbing. So the shoe's on the other foot. Patience became more self-involved and invited drama while Coop was embracing looking outside of herself this season. This near death experience will bring them back together. Coop's not gonna let her slip away this time after finding Patience in her current state.

Jaymee will continue to navigate her pregnancy with her lupus. I adore Jaymee and would love more screen time with her. There's gonna be a time where she won't be able to work at the restaurant, so I don't know if that'll give her time to look into online schooling or something else? I would love to see her friendship with Layla grow, too. They're usually paired together which I really like.

Asher will continue on his path to becoming a fantastic coach under Coach Montez's mentorship. He'll most likely prioritize Jaymee and the baby over everything so it might cause some conflict with his school commitments. He'll probably privately coach JJ too, but this time, his attention will be welcomed.

I think that Jaymee and Asher will have the baby. I'm not sure if they'll stay together, which is surprising, because I didn't feel that way before. But they've been having some interesting disconnect lately. But I think Jaymee will have the baby. Regardless, they're gonna be fantastic parents who will try their best. Whether they're together or co-parenting.

Laura will pursue teaching which is really cool for her. Teaching is tough, so those with the passion to do it should. I think we'll continue to see her friendship with Grace blossom and hopefully that means more Denise too bc I'm obsessed with her. Laura will be mourning Billy and figuring out this new chapter in her life without him.

Laura will also continue to hold onto family time with her kids. She might've visited Liv over the summer but maybe not. But her bond with Liv will continue to thrive. Jordayla's engagement is gonna have her concerned, but I think she'll be open to it a little more quickly because she knows what loss looks like. And maybe the people in her life deserve to move a little more unconventionally. So then she might be more involved in the wedding planning.

Spencer will continue rebuilding GAU's program with Kenny and Jordan. We're gonna see him smash it on the field and see a mentorship with him and Kenny. I wonder if we'll be clued in to his major at all? Didn't he mention something about psychology to Keisha? I love behavioral sciences, so I'm all for that if we see some of that. I hope we see more of him and his therapist too. He'll keep working thru his heartbreak of losing Billy.

Olivia will, thankfully, not return from London with the typical "study abroad pretentiousness." She's too thoughtful and self-aware for that. I'm very eager to see what she discovered about herself or learned abroad. Maybe we'll see her even more involved in the college community, and we'll definitely see her continue to grow as a journalist. I hope we see more of her and Davita bc I really love Davita. I'll take Davita with Spencer, too, idc. I'm still also uncertain if Olivia will fly back if she hears about Patience or will stay in London. She'll still be working through losing her dad but will find healing, too.

Spelivia will be in a delightful holding pattern until she gets back. It will give them time to really reflect on what they want from themselves and each other moving forward. But their confession at the airport removes the angst and anxiety of "but do they even love me back?" They have each other's hearts now, so they can focus on growing into themselves until her return. When she gets back, they'll be cautious at first but so, so happy. And they'll work on addressing things at the brink instead of letting them fester.

Jordan will keep killing it as a leader and QB1 at GAU. Would love to know his major? And we're gonna see a mentorship with him and Preach hopefully. He might visit Liv in London with Layla, he might not. And he's gonna continue to be the man of the house, regardless of where he winds up living. His relationship with Spencer will keep strengthening, too, along with his relationship with Olivia and Laura. His wedding is going to bring up a lot about his dad, and he'll be navigating that. But that could be where Preach steps in or maybe even JP?

Layla will have to address the consequences of Patience's stabbing. She'll wrestle with guilt for playing a part in elevating Patience and wonder if she should continue down her path of being a mogul. Or if she needs to rework some things to continue down the path in a more cautious way. I hope we see Gia again because I thought she brought a fresh dynamic to the studio. She'll probably have to deal with business consequences too because, you know, her artist was stabbed by a crazed fan. I think we might get scenes of her with JP and some with Laura and def with Olivia as she wedding plans. And I think she's going to have to walk thru some painful moments while missing her mother.

Jordayla will continue in their devotion to each other and their upcoming marriage. I think they're gonna expect mixed reactions from their families and Vortex, but they'll work through it together. And because they're getting married, we're going to see them navigate that in a practical way. Layla will keep learning how to balance work and her personal life. Same with Jordan. But they have fully realized and admitted that they are prepared for the commitment and will continue to lean into the love they have for each other. Since this is such a big step, we might see more elevated arguments, but they'll be worked thru with patience and understanding. And if one argument does break them up, they'll find their way back to each other quicker than later.

Sooo yeah! That's what I'm envisioning for these characters. Maybe a little bit of that was a wishlist, but I also did think about where we left off with all of these people in 520.

April Harlequin Special Edition Must-Read

Am I in my Harlequin Special Edition reading-Era right now? I just might be and I have no qualms about it. My current read is a Special Edition and over the past few days I've read three others (a post to come on those soon!). Her Man of Honor is an April release (Thank you to the author for sending me a copy) and is book one in Teri Wilson's upcoming Love, Unveiled series. Teri quickly became a go-to author for me; I've really enjoyed the Harlequin's I've read by her as well as her single titles she's published with Hallmark Publishing and Sourcebooks. If you're into royal romances, her Once Upon a Royal Summer with Hallmark Publishing is one of my all time favorite romances and I'm not the biggest royalty romance fan-but I loved it.

all glittered with believable conflict yet woven together in a sparkly way that only Teri Wilson can do.

The thing about Category Romance is that there is no time for fluff and honestly, that's the thing I love about it. Right from jump we meet Everly mere moments on her wedding day where she has been left at the altar. When Everly is facing a serious life storm she can be found hiding out in the bathroom and in this moment she is accompanied by Ritz crackers and a can of cheese (I've totally been there, but I usually have a glass of Stella Rosa for company!). Her bff and Man of Honor for the wedding, Henry, knows he'll find her there so he goes to be there for her. This very bff moment is really the catalyst for the rest of the plot, it's what gets things moving. This moment leads to a night of passion that changes everything for these two.

Everly is the expert love advice columnist for a wedding online magazine called Veil which as a result of being left at the altar throws her off her game and causes her to start dishing out terrible advice that soon-to-be brides don't need to hear! So she's snatched from her current position and demoted to writing about dog weddings and other random ideas the boss may have...until she can show that she's alright. Jilted at the altar, slept with my best friend...oh yeah, she also finds out she's pregnant and she knows it's Henry's because she and her fiancé hadn't been sleeping together. Henry considers London home though and works for an online travel magazine called Wanderlust. He's a Jetsetter, always on the go...so when Everly finds out she's pregnant and begins evaluating how to tell Henry and how to make co-parenting work, she has a lot to consider.

I shared in my Instagram stories that this book felt like I'd read the book of Teri Wilson's dreams. This book was unputdownable and I haven't stopped thinking about it since I finished it. Fated Mates recently did a podcast episode on books they wish they could read again for the first time and I immediately became overwhelmed with the feels of, "I wish I could experience the first time reading this," again. While it absolutely delivered on emotional wounds and conflict, it had such a fun tone to it. I feel like Teri Wilson has been plotting away or dreaming about writing this book for years and finally had a moment to. I for one am sure glad she did.

The crack of dawn had to be the most peaceful and harmonious time of day. Quiet moments to yourself where you can pretend that your life is normal and not as chaotic as it is.

These were one of few moments that you enjoy as the King's daughter. Eyelashes fluttering open, the silk sheets rolling off your body while the early morning light shimmers through your curtains, heated rays danced along your skin with birds tweeting in song.

It was a sweet, calm and naturistic wake up call indeed but a Princess is not all as glamorous as one perceives to be. Sure the comforts that come with the royal status are certainly pros, but the cons are extreme, which in turn, makes you long for some sense of normality.

Because bidding you off to the wealthiest family for marriage against your will is certainly normal, right?

Sadly, it is. That is the life that you live and are expected to carry out here in the next few weeks. You never got along with your father, the man was possessive, controlling and just cold hearted, not an ounce of love was in his body, not even for his daughter.

Your mother however, was the other side of the coin. She was beautiful in every way. Elegant and wise, full of love for you and she certainly did not believe in you being wedded against your will. She believed in true love, just like the novels she used to read.

Used to.

At the ripe young age of sixteen, your mother had passed away, suddenly and without explanation. Now ten years later, and slowly watching your father show his real colors since her death, you’ve been wondering a lot lately why there was no cause of death found by the King's coroner.

They’re probably in on it together.

The reason you enjoy these moments in the early hours of the morning is because they are your last. Soon, you will be free from the clutch that your father has on your life, he and this castle will be left in the dust. Mother would approve. She would support my escape.

The more time that you spend thinking about how your father was before her death, the more you realize that the man has always been that way, it was your mother that kept you safe from his principles and ridiculous ideology, she shielded you from him - the real him.

And she probably died because of it. Today, you are to go about as you normally do and pretend that everything is fine, because when the morrow comes, you will be gone before first light.

Later that morning, you took it upon yourself to sit out in the garden and enjoy a cup of tea. One of the many things your mother would do and is something that you are going to miss.

The only things you will miss from this place are the memories of your mother and - “Princesa, your father has asked me to retrieve you,” and Pero Tovar. You personal guard, a knight, who was currently interrupting your thoughts. You’re going to miss him too.

“Pero. Hi,” you smiled at the Spaniard. Patting the empty spot beside you on the bench, the man looked around before taking a seat. You turned to face him and cowered, “Did he happen to mention why?”

“No, querida, he did no,” you looked away but Pero’s eyes lingered on you. He knows you do not like your father, and he understands why too. “Oh, okay,” sighing to him, you tried your best to flash a smile, but truthfully, you dreaded any and all interactions with the King.

It breaks his heart to see such a beautiful young lady torn because of her family, your eyes screamed for escape and he wished to give that to you. If only he could tell you how he really feels.

Pero has a deep eternal desire to protect you, not just because you're the King’s daughter but because the man loves you. He has loved you since he took this position as a knight a year and a half ago.

His plan originally was to stay for six months, gather enough coins before heading home but that changed when he was assigned to be your personal guard. You are elegantly beautiful, full of heart and kindness, too much to be the King's daughter.

Pero has dreamed of taking you to Spain, to his home and to meet his mother. Not only does he wish to grant your desire of escaping your father and this castle, he longs to be by your side in doing so, to escape with you and travel across the seas.

After what seemed like forever daydreaming about taking your hand and running away right now, you stood up from the bench, leaving your half drunk tea on the table top and said a somber farewell to him. Pero knew your farewell meant something more. He knows.

You thought about Pero as soon as you left him sitting on the bench. The man is sweet, gentle, and equally ferocious and brutal when defending your royalty. You’ve seen him in action a couple of times.

Once when you were taking a ride through the local village in the carriage and a mad man tried to enter but Pero stopped him. Twice, when rebels stormed the castle grounds because their King raised the tax, your father greedily wanted more from the people he is supposed to rule.

But Pero is a fighter under your fathers commande, not by choice. He has a soft heart, and you’re going to miss him when you leave. In another life, you’d bring Pero with you, if he loved you the way you loved him, you’d run to the ends of the earth with the man.

If only you could marry Pero instead of your fathers choice.

Walking across the cobblestone courtyard, you headed into the cabinet room where your father likes to hold important meetings. Lately he has been using it to discuss the details of your wedding with your husband to be - George Nicholas.

George is a self righteous asshole, cruel to his servants, to the female staff in particular, and a sniveling snob. His personality matches his looks too. Long greasy locks lay on his shoulders, a permanent scowl on his face with dirty yellow teeth and a smile that makes your skin scrawl.

Your father did not care about the personality nor the looks of your suiter, only the wealth in his family name. George and his family had the biggest riches to offer, more than enough to satiate the King’s greed.

Knocking on the door before entering, with your head ducked and avoiding eye contact, your voice squeaked when asking, “Father, you called for me?”

“Yes. George and I have great news, you are to be married tonight. The ceremony has already begun,” you fathers loud voice bellowed from across the room and your gaze lifted from the floor, eyes widened while looking between the two men.

Tonight?! No. That’s too soon. Everything is set for the morrow!

You panicked inwardly, breath slightly erratic but you tried not to show it, your father already knows your feelings towards this marriage. “Oh,” you faltered, gathering yourself to come across nonchalantly, “May I ask what is the rush?”

“Why?” The King's brow raised, eyes narrowed as he leaned forward in his chair, as did George.

Keeping your tone mellow, not wanting to anger him, you answered with another question to try and wade off his suspicions, “Will there be enough time to perfect everything? If it’s ok father, I would like a calla lily bouquet, which is not grown on the grounds here and my dress has not even been fitted yet.”

For a few moments, he was quiet. Your tactics didn’t seem to be working so you tried another, treading carefully as you spoke, “You know my opinions on this wedding father and I accept that George is the best option for our family, but at the very least, may I have the calla lilies? They were mothers favorite.”

“Hm,” he leaned back into his chair in thought, looking at George, the man nodded and your father did the same, “Very well. That seems fair. I will have Goerge assist you to the monastery in the village, I do believe father David has some lilies in his garden.”

You nodded, “Thank you father,” Looking over to George, you faked a smile and thanked him too, “I look forward to the day, thank you.”

The King excused you and you walked back out of the room, but as soon as the door was shut, you ran upstairs to your bed chambers, your face flushing with the need to cry but across the hallway, stood Pero.

He had eavesdropped with his ear to the door of the cabinet room, listening to the conversation inside about how your wedding has been moved to tonight, he wanted to barge in there and take you away, he nearly did until he heard your father say you may leave and he quickly hid himself behind a pillar.

Pero took action immediately after seeing your panic and headed to see the stableman. He has known of your plan to leave since the beginning, how you have set everything up for an exact time and date to leave.

Pero has even helped with setting it in motion, without you or your father knowing and you can’t leave in the early hours of the morning like you planned to, it has to be today.

Sat in the back of the gold plated carriage, you bounced up and down on your seat from the wheels rolling over the rocky path of the village.

This thing was cramped. Not designed for comfort but merely a flashy token to show off your fathers wealth, however what made it really uncomfortable was George’s face so close to your own as he sat opposite you.

With the lack of room, your knees kept bumping into each other, which made you grimace every time. You hated the man, and it revolted you to feel even such little, unintentional, contact to your skin.

Until it wasn’t unintentional anymore. He lay a hand out onto your kneecap, your whole body tense under his touch as he tried seducing you, “You know, I think the calla lilies will be a beautiful touch to our ceremony, but not as beautiful as you.”

Turning your body away from him and shaking his hand off your knee, you faced the window and lied through your teeth, “thank you, George. You’re very kind.” Ugh! You are fucking degusting and I wish another mad man would enter this carriage to free me of your disgusting presence.

There was no mad man, but there was Pero though. He rode alongside the carriage on his horse, wearing silver armor on his body from head to toe, he had a helmet on but you could tell he was looking inside the carriage, looking to make sure you’re okay.

You weren’t okay and you wished to be riding the back on his horse instead.

You wanted to go and see the stableman, Billy, before you left the castle who had helped you gather a horse and a bag for you to leave undetected tomorrow, but you were whisked away by Pero quickly before you had the chance.

He’s just doing his job as your knight, it's not his fault but your time is running out.

The ceremony is tonight and it’s going to be extremely hard to leave when there is higher security because of the wedding. Maybe you should have left sooner, what if the King knew of this plan? That’s why he brought the wedding up on the schedule?

A lot of worrisome questions ran through your mind as you bit your nails, zoning out of the window as you thought about it all. The monastery was near and George was instructed to not leave your side at all times while you picked out the flowers.

Slowly but surely, you realize that you’re trapped - there's no way out.

Exiting the carriage, Pero held the door open for you, not George, and you walked inside the monastery together to be greeted by father David. He was a sweet and gentle man, a man of god and you’ve often thought about confiding your troubles to him privately, but you weren’t so sure if they would be indeed kept private.

Escorting you, Pero and George into the garden, it was rich and plentiful of flowers. A bed of roses, lilies, sunflowers, tulips and so much more, even some you don’t recognise. Father David gestured for you to browse, “take as long as you need, my dear.”

You smiled to him, “thank you,” and George turned, tutting like he doesn’t want to spend the whole morning looking at flowers. He doesn’t but you’re going to drag this out as long as you possibly can.

Walking past George and Pero, you headed straight for the roses to admire them, there were plenty in colour and each was fully grown, thorns sticking out their stems, their petals bright and full of life.

Leaning down and smelling one of them, you smiled with the aromas entering your nostrils but behind you though, you heard a loud thwack followed by a heavy thump from something tumbling over.

Your eyes widened when you turned to locate the sound. George was on the floor, father David was pulling the chapel doors shut again as he entered the monastery, smiling and waving goodbye to you, and finally there was Pero.

Pero stood over George, a big and heavy vase held in his hand, he had just rendered your fiance unconscious and you’ve never been happier about it. Quickly standing, you rushed over to him and flung yourself into his armoured chest, “Oh Pero!” you preened, “Thank you!”

Pulling your head back to look at him, he lifted the plate of his helmet to look down at you as he smiled, “anything for you, Princesa, but the time to leave is now. This will be your only chance to escape.”

Nodding to him fervently, he pulled on your hand to the back of the garden, one of the wood panels was loose and he moved it to one side, gesturing for you to go through. On the other side, you could see the stableman, Billy, with your horse and multiple bags, not just one.

Squeezing through to the other side, you smiled at Billy, then turned to Pero, reaching your hand out for him, “Come.” He looked at you confused, unsure of what you were implying so you explained, “Pero, you will hang for this. I am not leaving you behind, now come with me. Please, my love.”

Those two words were everything he needed to hear and more. Pero didn’t waste a second longer, shaking off all the unnecessary layers of armour, he slipped through the gap too and you tugged on his hand as you ran up to the horse.

Greeting Billy and pulling him in for a hug, “thank you for helping me. Do you have your take?” He nodded, turning to show you the bag on his bag full of items that you’ve stolen from the castle over time. Jewels, silver and coins, all as a payment for helping you escape.

Pero clapped a hand down onto his shoulder, thanking him also before climbing up onto the horse. Reaching out for you, he yanked you up on the back and warned Billy, “Leave quickly, it will no be long before that fool wakes up, then the King will send everyone out looking for us. Father David is leaving by boat right now as we speak.”

“Thank you, Pero,” Billy looked up to the Spaniard, shielding his eyes from the glare of the sun and then looked to you, “Good luck Princess. I wish you all the best.”

“I will,” you held a hand out to his cheek, sad to say goodbye but happy to finally be free. Pero didn’t want to risk another second and yelled, with good intention, to Billy to get a move on. Nudging the horse to run, the stallion's hooves kicked up the mud as it took off, leaving the village behind you in the wind.

“Where is it you wish to go, Princesa?” Pero asked, to which you replied by wrapping your hand around his stomach, laying your cheek to the top of his back and whispering a question directly into his ear, “Anywhere, as long as it is with you?”

Pero has yearned for your love, his eyes closed, keening at your touch as he nodded, “Of course, mi amor.”

You’ve both been traveling for two days now and it was an arduous journey. Pero had insisted you keep moving, put as much distance between you and your father as possible, but you grew weary.

“Pero my love, I’m exhausted. Could we stop somewhere for the night?” He did not answer straight away, his head twisting and turning examining your surroundings.

“Si, mi amor. There is a small village ahead where we can find an inn. We will stay the night and then there is a day's ride to our destination.”

“Thank you.”

“Anything for you mi princesa.” Pero had found an inn at the edge of the village, perfect for a quick escape he had said. He had paid for the room and requested for a tub of hot water to bathe and some food.

It was a small slice of heaven in the chaos of the last few days. Arriving at your shared room you’re greeted by the sight of a small fire in the corner and a tub sitting in front of it. You begin to strip when Pero grips your wrist gently.

“I think it's best if we eat first, no? Then you can bathe mi princesa.”

“Of course,” you say as your stomach growls. The food is far from what you are used to but it is delicious nonetheless. Pero eats as if he will be without food for a while, like a man starved and you can’t help but smile.

Once you are both finished with your food you begin to strip, eager to wash off the last few days. Pero stands watching, hesitation written all over his face as battles with watching more and more of your skin being revealed or turning away, respectfully.

“Are you ok Pero?” you looked over to him upon noticing him not getting undressed like you. “Si. I- may I join you mi amor?” A smile spreads over your face as he stands, nervously hopping from one foot to the next.

“I had thought that was the plan.” You blushed and he smiled. Then as he quickly rids himself of his clothes, he sits into the tub first and holds his hand out to you, helping you into the warm water.

A sigh escapes past your lips as the water soothes your aching muscles. Sinking further into the water you rest against Pero’s chest as he washes you both.

You can feel him harden against your ass and a shiver runs through you. You’ve never been intimate with a man before, having to keep yourself chaste until you were wed. Nervously, you reach under the water and rub your hand against his hard member.

Startled, Pero jumps slightly and he lets out a low groan as you continue your ministrations. “Mi amor, as much as I love what you are doing, if you do not stop I will not be able to control myself.”

“Who says I want you to?” You whisper and he growls into your neck as his teeth bite the skin there. “I do not wish for your first time to be in a shitty inn, mi princesa. You deserve better.”

Turning in the water so you are now facing him, you gently place your hand along his cheek. “Pero please, I want you. I do not care where we are as long as I’m with you.”

Pero grips your waist tight as he stares at you with lust blown eyes. You can see his mind whirling behind those brown eyes and you lean in to kiss him, hoping to calm his racing thoughts. “This is what I want.”

Pulling back he stares at you again, his eyes scanning your face for an ounce of hesitation and when he finds none he smiles. “If this is what you want?”

“It is.” You confirmed. He nods his head and begins to rise from the water. “I will not take you here. Your first time should at least be in bed.”

After drying, Pero lifts you and carries you towards the bed where he lays you down gently. Taking in the full view of his naked form your eyes go wide at the sight of his cock. Pero smiles smugly before he lowers himself onto the bed and kisses you passionately. “Do not worry mi amor, I will make sure you are ready for me. I will never hurt you.”

Resting against the pillows you stare down at him as he kisses along your thighs. The feel of his moustache tickles as he draws closer to your core and sends a spark through you. “Can I taste you mi princesa?” He asks.

Unable to form coherent words you simply nod your head at him and he wastes no time in burying his face into your wet folds. “Oh,” you gasp out as you arch off the bed, hands gripping his hair. Pero growls into your cunt and the vibrations make you cry out. “Oh Pero!”

Your whole body shakes as your orgasm washes over you. If this is what it feels like you wonder why anyone would wait. He licks you through your high, his eyes glued to your face contorted in pleasure making his chest swell.

Once you’ve calmed he moves up your body until he’s flush against you and kisses you softly, “are you ready mi amor?”

“Yes! Please Pero take me. I’m yours.” His eyes never leave yours as he slowly enters you, making sure to find no sign of pain on your face.

“Are you ok?” He asks. You nod at him as you bite your bottom lip, the feel of his thickness filling you has you caught somewhere between pleasure and pain. He pushes himself a little further until he is fully sheathed inside. “If you are in pain, will you tell me?

“Yes- please move Pero.” His hips begin to roll in and out of you, slowly, languidly. He doesn’t want to rush this. He wants you to always remember this, remember how he loved you, how he pleased you.

“Princesa-you are so tight-I,” he groans into your shoulder, the feeling of you wrapped around him, so wet, so hot is driving him wild. It's everything he has dreamed of and more. He never wants to let you go.

“Pero-I’m-I’m going to..” That feeling is pooling in the pit of your stomach again, moving through you like a current and you cry out his name. “Pero!”

He’s not going to last. He hasn’t come this quick since he was a young man but he doesn’t care. He waits, holds it in until you finish coming on his cock and when you cry out his name he quickly pulls out and pumps himself as he comes over your stomach.

“Why- why did you do that?” You asked. He looks down at you now lovingly. “I did not know if you wished to bear my child.”

You wake with a start to find Pero above you, his finger over his mouth. “Shh! We need to leave, now mi princesa. Your father has sent guards after us and they are outside.”

Quickly you gather your things and Pero leads you outside through a side door to where your horse is. He helps you on and he gallops off, the sound of your fathers guards ransacking the village in the background.

The sound of horses hooves echoes through the woods and you chance a glance behind you to find a swarm of your fathers guards after you. Holding Pero a little tighter he moves the horse faster. “I have a friend waiting, mi princesa, he will help us.”

You keep your eyes closed as Pero gallops on. When you both arrive at your destination, he hops off the horse and helps you down. “Come quick mi amor. William, mi amigo is waiting for us. He will help us board a boat to Spain.”

Everything happens so fast. You arrived at another village a day's ride from the inn and you had met Pero’s friend William who was helping you board a boat to Spain, but your fathers guards were hot on your tail. You should have known he wouldn’t let it go. Wouldn’t let you be free. He wasn’t your mother.

“Tovar my friend how have you been?” William greeted Pero, to which he replied, “Good but we really need to get out of here and fast. Her father is determined to have her back to wed that old brute or worse, dead.”

William gestured to you and Pero to come aboard, “No need to fret my friend, I have your back. All is set, come I have a few men on guard until you set sail.”

“Thank you amigo, you are a true friend.”

“Don’t mention it. Now come on, we don't have all day.”

You both arrive onto the boat and without incident which you are surprised about. You think you may finally have a quiet life with the man you love until you hear screams in the distance.

Looking at Pero frantically, he shakes his head at you and pulls you close. His gaze turns towards William and he nods at his friend. “You know what to do mi amigo.”

“I do. You take care of that beautiful lass and I will see you soon my friend,” he says as he wields his sword and charges forward towards the King's guards.

Pero wraps his arm around you holding you tight as the boat sets sail. “I can not believe we have made it mi princesa. I can not wait to show you my home in Spain. You will love it.”

“As long as I am with you Pero, it does not matter where I am.” Whispering into his chest, the open water around you grows far and wide as the port slowly disappears. The castle you grew up in, your father and George already long forgotten about.

Just you and your love, Pero Tovar sailing away towards your new life.

The DreamSMP Explained (By Someone Who Has Never Watched Any DreamSMP Stream)

cracks knuckles. okay, fucking FINALLY doing this. ahem. 

Couple things to preface with, will keep this brief. 

This isn’t entirely blind. One of my best friends has helped out in places, just because I wanted to hit on everything (accurate or not), and I know mutuals/friends who post and write about DreamSMP (though how much of that is AU or canon-typical, I can’t say. I can’t tell). I’ve never seen a single stream, but I’ve seen a few clips. So, my understanding is a bit more than the title may imply, but still not a lot. Sorry.

Also, this will be very, very long (near 2k words). All under the cut, will TW this with themes of abuse, death, manipulation, unreality, hallucinations, and me having an abrasive sense of humor where I revel in the glee of calling these guys European twinks. Though, speaking of. This is ALL about the actual characters, not the people. I don’t know anything about most of these actual streamers, so, no hate to them. In fact, I think they’re pretty cool for having come up with a… somewhat coherent… narrative, all through using Minecraft as a medium. Anyway.

Sigh. Without further ado, 

So. There’s this place. Made by Philza, AKA God, AKA one of like six different gods. Philza, born from the womb acting like someone’s 43 year old uncle, has three kids. Wilbur, Tommy, and Tubbo. There are other people here, with some scattered ancestry that raises some questions, but I don’t really care who fucked an Enderman and had an 8’0 tall kid (Ranboo DNI).

There are also places! Sometimes! On a good day, there are actual, intact locations. We’ve got hits like “The Badlands”, which I think was taken from about three different dystopian novels I read in third grade, “El Rapids” (Quackity, Subpoena (autocorrect wins this round), and Karl made this one), “Pogtopia”, no comment on this one, and “L’Manberg”, which Wilbur made. 

Only one of these is going to be important.

So, might be a good time to say this: I don’t know what the inciting incident of DreamSMP is? I don’t know what was the catalyst for all this shit, but I’m going to take a guess and say Wilbur blowing up L’Manberg had something to do with it.

… That’s going to be a pattern, by the way. Just. Stick with me here. 

So, Wilbur is an older child who read the Hamlet parts in literature class and can only cope by ripping down the very creations he has and taking the entire world down with him to hell. Which is to say, he throws a pity party after Jschlatt (some bitch who abused Quackity, that’s another trend, yippee) wins an election and decides to blow up the fucking kingdom and kill Jschlatt.

Little does Wilbur know, the devil may work fast, but Jschlatt getting a fucking stroke and dying out of nowhere works faster. 

I’m not kidding. He gets a stroke, he dies, and Tubbo takes over. I’ve tried to puzzle out the government structure of DreamSMP for a while and have drawn zero conclusions. In any case, Wilbur also tells Philza, his… father…, to kill him. And Philza fucking does? For some reason, like, holy shit.

Anyway. Wilbur is now a ghost. So is Jschlatt. The… life system, on this server, is really strange and I don’t know how to fully explain it. Just know that nothing has permanence here. 

I’m going to throw this out here because I don’t know when it’s relevant, but I wrote down something about Karl being in a place called the In Between. I don’t know how the hell he got there or what the hell he’s doing. This might be where the discs are? I can’t explain the discs. I… think they are fighting over the discs? Don’t know why, Wilbur makes music himself, I feel like you have enough to go around.

L’Manberg gets blown up again. This time, Techno did it. He did it just after giving this speech about Theseus, which, jokes aside-- the writing of DreamSMP is actually really good. That was all done on improv, and I did watch an animatic with some of the audio from it, and damn. I’m a whore for metaphor and I love this for him.

This happens, and Ranboo and Tommy decide to do a little hehe and burn down George’s house. Who is George? Good question: a king. Of what? Good question: call me the antithesis of a Ranboo kinnie and get me some discs because I hear no answers.

Dream gets pissed off by this (who gave him authority, I don’t know) and builds a wall. He for some reason decides that if Tommy, and only Tommy, breaks some rules, the wall will stay up forever. So, naturally, Tommy immediately yells at him, and Tubbo gets pissed (what happened to the whole, who are you without me, yourself, thing?). Dream exiles him, which is bad enough, but then Dream burns down his house, so now he’s double exiled.

Dream kins Julius Caesar but Julius Caesar does not kin Dream and I think that’s important. 

(It had to be important enough for me to literally go back and edit this in, for no reason, because I think I’m really fucking hilarious.) 

Techno takes in Tommy and shows him his super secret cave of evil, which Tommy promptly screams at. Philza and Ranboo visit sometimes, but mostly Tommy just sits there. Dream says “fuck you” to Techno, but Techno decides to wage war on L’Manberg, so Quackity and co. come over to try and kill Techno, but Techno kills Quackity with a pickaxe, but Quackity has three lives for some reason, and then Dream blames Ranboo for blowing something up for literally zero reason, and can you tell how tired I am.

Ranboo sees a smiley face in his notebook and zones the fuck out while Dream tries to kill… Tommy? No, Tubbo. No, fuck, no it was Tommy. I don’t know why people suddenly care about it n- NO, NO IT WAS TUBBO, he is TRYING to kill TUBBO. 

I hate Europeans. 

Ahem. Dream goes to jail, but he has books in jail, which is a horrible idea. Everyone knows that if you give a war criminal some novels he’ll accidentally haunt someone else’s dreams and launch psychological warfare with the prison guard, Sam, who has zero idea what he’s doing because he probably didn’t sign up for this.

Also, I’m gonna say this here because I don’t know when it will fit in. There’s this place. Called… the Egg. Now, I don’t know what goes on in the Egg. I don’t know what the Egg is. I don’t know who decided to name all these fucking things, because I think the Egg is just a box made of bedrock. I think Ranboo hallucinates about it, but Ranboo hallucinates about everything so I’m not really sure. I’m going to call it here and say that this is probably a bad sign.

People are trying to talk to Dream. First BadBoyHalo, who gives Ranboo this little note from Dream with a smiley face. Or maybe that was SapNap. Either way, Ranboo hallucinates seeing Dream, and then actually sees Dream but he thinks he’s hallucinating? I don’t know. 

Then we get Tommy. Basically he kind of comes in here and Sam, being a good prison guard, allows Dream to beat Tommy to death and then revive him (don’t ask about the revivals just pretend it makes sense please). He tells Tommy he’s also going to revive Wilbur which Tommy isn’t a big fan of, considering that Wilbur, uh. Vague hand gestures. You get the schtick. Hopefully. I don’t know.

Anyway. Uh. Quackity loses his shit, also.

As in he talks to Jschlatt, the ghost of his abusive husband. Makes a deal-- if Quackity here loses, he revives Jschlatt. I don’t know what the winning conditions are, but, thankfully, they don’t matter because Quackity loses damn near instantly. 

So he goes to Dream and Sam gives him really powerful gear for no reason. Dream is a bit terrified by this situation, and Quackity is like “give me the fucking book”, and then we never find out what happens because Quackity ends up covered in blood about to blow up El Rapids. I hadn’t expected to mark Quackity off on the demolitionist bingo, but hey, all’s fair I guess. My next bets are on Tubbo or whichever bitch became god of the sea. 

(I also made a joke to my friend about me kinning Quackity (the character not the streamer could you fucking imagine), to which they said “you’d torture someone for information”? So. I guess Dream, uh. Hm. That explains why Quackity was bloodied. Uh. Oops. Don’t know why he’s playing Poker, though.)

So, for my sanity, as we come to a close, I’m going to start listing lore details that I don’t know nearly enough about but are probably important. Just… bullet point them. Might be a bit tacky of me but I have shit to do, dammit. By that I mean, I don’t have shit to do, but I’ve had this doc open for literally 1-2 weeks and I just want to be freed.

More on this last point: they opened a hotel, despite Tubbo being a king, and Tommy got mad at them for getting engaged without his permission. But Tommy was literally dead when they had the wedding so I’m not exactly sure what he was expecting. Either way, he’s fine with it now.

This is the day that marked the Holy and Blessed Union of Dean Winchester and Jo Harvelle.

The merging of prominent bloodlines is always a grand occurrence, but breeding pedigree hunter families like Winchester and Harvelle is something to be rejoiced. It is also something to be meticulously planned, which thankfully the Host is very good at.

note: an AU where dean and jo are destined to fall in love and have two sons who will bring on the apocalypse and be the vessels for michael and lucifer. only problem is cupid’s arrows don’t make them fall in love with each other and heaven promptly starts freaking the fuck out so cas slips into a vessel and tries to do some matchmaking to get the whole end of the world thing back on track. it’s tagged as unrepentant crack and that pretty much sums it up, but it’s also a very funny and enjoyable read

note: after lucifer stabs gabriel in hammer of the gods, gabriel uses his very last bit of grace to travel back to the beginning of time and decree castiel the angel of thursdays and dean winchester. fast forward a few eons and castiel hears mary’s dying cry. he shows up too late to save her, but he decides that a human life is very short in the grand scheme of things so he can play guardian angel to dean (and by extension sam) while also fulfilling his duties to heaven. not only is this pretty much my favorite supernatural fic, it’s also one of my favorite fics in general

The Shattered One

When it struck Castiel, he was in mid-flight. It dropped him out of the sky like a sparrow buffeted by gale-force winds. Castiel set down the first place he could find. He ended up standing in a field in Switzerland, swaying on his feet and staring down at his body, dazed by what it had just done.

note: okay so listen. this is tagged as mpreg but that’s kind of a stretch imo. it’s not like... mpreg mpreg in the sense that it deals with angel reproduction and has nothing to do with sex or pregnancy. angel reproduction goes like this: a section of an angel’s grace will suddenly and randomly break off and begin to grow on it’s own. after a certain period of time, another angel has to offer a piece of their grace and the two pieces will combine to form a new angel. that new angel is a fully developed, fully functional angel and is considered a new brother/sister instead of an offspring.

cas’s grace shatters which means he’s fucked because this takes place in season 5 after he’s defied heaven. no other angel will offer up a piece of their grace so his own is basically going to rip itself apart, killing him in the process. when dean and sam find out cas is going to die, dean offers up part of his soul in place of another angel’s grace. what results is a new angel that has just enough human in it that it takes the shape of a human baby and sends pretty much all of their lives into a tailspin.

ALSO just a heads up this is definitely more pre-destiel despite the relationship tag. there’s a sequel where im pretty sure they do get together but i haven’t read it so i cant’s say for sure.

note: it’s been a very long time since i read this, but from what i remember it’s an AU where they’re all human and dean brings his friend/co-worker cas as his “date” to sam and ruby’s wedding for moral support. when sam was in college, he met ruby and they started using drugs together. after several failed attempts at helping him get clean, dean eventually cut sam off and it’s been years since they’ve spoken. even though sam and ruby are now both sober, dean blames ruby for everything that happened and the only reason he’s even going to the wedding is because bobby and ellen basically force him to. again, it’s been years and years since i read this so i can’t remember a lot of the details, but i do know that despite this being a dean/cas fic a lot of the focus is dean rebuilding his relationship with sam and that’s what i remember really liking about it.

Point Pleasant

(okay so this fic was deleted but i’m putting in on here anyway because the author has since turned it into a novel and had it published. im sure old pdfs of the fic are floating around but i highly recommend reading the novel version. if you know it was based on a destiel fic then it’s really easy to see those influences in the writing and the characters but it can stand up on it’s own. also!!!! it has pretty much the coolest take on the mothman’s origin story that i’ve ever heard.)

basically an au version of season 5 (and kind of the whole series really). when god cast lucifer out of heaven, he tore out his grace. lucifer’s grace was put into the cage, but lucifer himself fell to earth and spent thousands and thousands of years reincarnating as a human. his latest reincarnation? dean winchester. so when sam opens the cage, lucifer’s grace is released and dean realizes that he’s lucifer. part of him still kind of wants to start the apocalypse but the other part of him has a whole new appreciation for humanity considering he now remembers every human life he’s ever lived. it’s made more complicated by the fact that dean (/lucifer) doesn’t really want to tell anyone that he’s apparently the devil so he has to keep his now angel status on the dl and also because despite heaven wanting the apocalypse to start, michael went missing from heaven shortly after lucifer was cast out and no one has any idea where he’s at.

Let’s Elope!

MARISSA

I sit at my coffee table and lift the glass off of the pale pink and yellow forms. I am officially pregnant again. I doubt Alex will be able to tell from the various hormone levels how far along I am. I just need for him to see proof, and hopefully it’s enough of a catalyst for us to finally fix a wedding date. With luck, Christine will be too distracted trying to disrupt our plans to keep digging into my past or nosing around Bridget. I don’t want to be too obvious, but Alex has to come across this on his own. As his mother said, subterfuge is the only thing that works with him. I’ll be she regrets telling me that. I’m about to set my phone on top of the paperwork when a better idea comes to mind. My iPad. I’ll say I was doing research.

Footsteps tromp along the hallway outside and I tense. Alex’s footsteps. It feels like forever as I wait for the key to turn in the lock. At last, he comes in. “Are you okay,” he asks, hugging me awkwardly.

“Now that you’re here. Thanks for coming. She followed me through the entire park just earlier.”

“I’ll talk to my case worker and see if it violates the restraining order. We’re due for a chat anyway.” He slings his arm over my shoulder and leads me to my couch. We sit and he takes no notice of the papers on the table. He’s a compulsive reader, so I just have to be patient.

I launch into the story I’ve rehearsed all afternoon. He listens intently and frowns, his brow furrowed with worry. Then he tells me about his day. Nothing much, apart from the usual complaints about stupid clients and even stupider co-workers. It’s a shame we don’t live in a larger city where he’d be earning three times as much, and where there are hundreds of ad agencies to choose from. The rivals to Y&M are mostly boutique outfits with only a handful of employees, most of them family members.

At last he leans forward, staring at the forms beneath my tablet. My mouth feels suddenly dry as he narrows his eyes at them. “What are these?”

“Oh, I got some routine blood tests done. They check for rhesus factor, diabetes. So far, so good. Everything’s fine, my hormone levels are where they should be, I just needed to research them anyway. The next appointment I have is for an ultrasound. I’ve never had one before so I’m kind of nervous.”

He takes my hand, but he holds my fingers only loosely in his. I’d been hoping for a more positive sign of affection, but at least he says, “I hope Chris didn’t give you too much of a scare.”

My voice turns unsteady as I say, “She followed me for ten blocks. I can only imagine what she’ll do at our wedding. I was thinking …The less time she has to plan any schemes, the better.”

“Weddings are a lot of stress, though, aren’t they?” He clears his throat. “According to my mother stress can do a number on a woman’s hormones.”

“Apparently that’s a myth,” I say, hoping he doesn’t plan to delay in the hopes that I’ll miscarry beforehand. The irony of my situation needles into me like a poison ivy rash. Karma still bears a grudge against me. “I’d rather do the deed before I start showing—more than I do already.”

He stares at me quizzically. As if he doesn’t realize traditional wedding dresses aren’t exactly made to accommodate swollen bellies. And then, I get an idea. It’s so obvious! “We could always elope. You’d always said you never liked the idea of a big wedding.”

“Eloping sounds good!” Finally I hear enthusiasm in his voice! I wish I’d thought of this ages ago. It’ll also be that much easier for me to deal with you-know-who. Permanently.

“I figure we can just scoot off to a tropical beach resort along with our parents and maybe a handful of our closest friends, and figure out the rest when we get back.”

“So where would you want to go?”

I grin widely. “A travel agent.” That gets the sort of chuckle from him that I haven’t heard in months.

Servants scattered about in the Ice Palace, making arrangements for the arrival of the High Lord of Autumn. Viktor had hardly a moment alone with his closest ally since the scandal had been unearthed, but to say nothing in the wake of this tragedy would have been a true dishonor to one of the most honorable rulers in Astralis. Under the safety of Winter, with its remoteness and its solid defenses, they could afford that quiet space to talk. 

The High Lord was at the entrance to greet Kaden, is expression grim with the seriousness of the situation. “High Lord Bahatti, I’m glad you’re here. Come, I’ve requested some of our stronger spirits for today’s meeting. I think we’ll both need it.” Viktor greeted, gesturing towards the lounge where they normally spent their time together. A roaring fire was already crackling merrily; a small gesture of comfort for an old friend. Diamonds are forever. They are known to be the hardest known natural substance, unbreakable in any harsh conditions, although the same cannot be said for the bond within Cabot family. The family of diamond miners can be tracked all the way back to the 1900′s, but the history we decide to pick up from starts with the former CEO of Cabot & Co., Frederick Cabot. A ruthless businessman by nature, Frederick is not afraid to step on other people’s toes to get whatever he wants. Accompanied by his wife, Lucinda Cabot, the daughter of an oil mining company, the pair is unstoppable as they venture into the jewellery industry, producing some of the most expensive and beautiful jewelleries in the world, only to be worn by those who deserves them. False smiles plaster across their features, whispering sweet nothings to coax potential business partners getting involved with their company. Although if things ever goes haywire, those who finds themselves aligned to the Cabot’s will be left to fend their themselves, to be fed to the lions.

Selfishness came second to ruthlessness when it comes to the Cabot family traits, but inevitably, Frederick and Lucinda know they eventually will need a heir, to protect their family heirloom, away from outsider’s grasps. Then came the birth of two children, one of them being Evelyn Cabot herself. Flashes of blonde hair and captivating hues resembling like her parents’ features, although their daughter obtained no Cabot traits within. Always the one wanting her parents’ attention, Frederick and Lucinda provide her the polar opposite of that. Busy attending to business events, Evelyn is often left in the company of her brother and nanny. Soon, a slow-burning hatred built within the Cabot heiress, although the blonde stuck by the family nonetheless, as the demons of the wealth and luxuries have their claws on the eldest Cabot since she took her first breath in this world.

Events after events, drowning herself with alcohol and gossiping with fellow socialites of Catalina Island, Evelyn soon finds herself crossing paths with Arthur Halliwell. The single father and aspiring businessman is fawned by many of the women of the island. His daughter, Ava Halliwell, the product of a short-lived relationship with waitress Paloma Ramírez before having the responsibility of parenthood is unloaded on the man after the brunette abandons their child on his doorstep, unable to bear such responsibility at such a young age. Together, it has been the father and daughter against the world, until Evelyn comes into the picture. The man attends an event as a plus-one, his outfit clearly indicates that he doesn’t fit in with the high society of these rich families, yet just like other women in town, Evelyn is instantly charmed by the man himself. After a drunken one night stand, it will be ironic for the blonde to find herself pregnant out of wedlock, giving birth to Cleo Halliwell, before awaiting for two years and unveiling the child’s existence to Arthur.

Much to her surprise, Arthur wants to support her. Not like the Cabot needs any support, but Arthur’s charm has again won her over, causing Evelyn to fall in love with him. Even much more to her surprise, he has won Frederick and Lucinda over too. Naive as she is, she doesn’t see the underlining fire within Arthur’s eyes. One that will eventually be translated into greed and ruthlessness, something that her parents long in their daughter throughout her lifetime. For a while, the newly wed couple live in a blissful, honeymoon phase. Giving birth to Josephine Halliwell a few years later, who will eventually become Arthur’s, and perhaps even their grandparents’ pride and joy. Unbeknownst to Evelyn Halliwell, slowly but surely, the demons of wealth find its way to Arthur, brainwashing him to the point where his love for money grows stronger than his love for his darling wife. When neither of the Cabot children can live up to taking over the business, the throne will then be passed to no other than Arthur Halliwell himself, the ultimate prize he has his eyes on, becoming the best day of his life, the event replacing his wedding to Evelyn.

It’s here, where their marriage begins to crumble around the edges. Although they seem flawless to the world, Arthur and Evelyn don’t even share the same bed together anymore. Trust becomes lacking between the couple, and instead, Evelyn focuses her time on her daughters instead. Sending Ava to beauty pageants, losing her mind to Cleo’s antics, showing her disapproval to Jo’s likeliness to Arthur — Evelyn has became overbearing to her daughters. One by one, they all drift away from her. With Ava moving in with her aunt, Lorralie Halliwell at the age of sixteen, to Cleo acting the opposite of everything Evelyn tells her, to Josephine being trusted upon with the responsibility of taking over the business in the future — Evelyn finds herself desperate to salvage their marriage, and Arthur half-hearted agrees, so she finds herself pregnant again. Another girl. Celia Halliwell enters into the picture, finding herself lacking attention from her own father, who seemingly gives up on trying with his marriage and relationship with his youngest daughter from the beginning. Truth be told, they are all hoping for a daughter. But Evelyn realises then, that a child isn’t going to solve their relationship. They are all broken beyond repair, and so she devotes her time to moulding Celia into the perfect daughter, the one she actually dreams of. 

Their family’s mistakes have inevitably affected the four Halliwell daughters. Their bonds are far from being as strong as diamonds, and instead they are filled with underlining bitterness for each other. They all blame the other for the different turns in their lives, but at the end of the day, their fingers all point to their parents, and Evelyn will point hers towards Frederick and Lucinda. The Cabot-Halliwell’s are far from perfect — in fact, they are sweet beautiful disasters waiting to implode. The question is, who will be the catalyst of it all? Are they in too deep to salvage the broken relationships in their family? Is a perfect family really achievable? One thing for sure, someone has to make the first move on this ever complicated chess game — or last move, depending on how you perceive this, and call checkmate.

Once Kevin and Madison have settled in comfortably in the friends stage is when things will start to heat up. The most exciting avenue the writers can really address here is Kevin finding Madison physically/sexually attractive despite the change in her body that is making her feel even worse than when she had body dysmorphia. Apart from the 90% chance of Caitlin being bumped into a series regular, Kevin’s definitely still going to be prominent in the Kevison episodes because well, he is the main character after all. So, we’ll definitely be seeing Madison more through his eyes, especially when he’s beginning to fall in love with her or in the midst of being in love with her. It’ll probably show her being the perfect person for him in the way that she doesn’t judge him for his past and doesn’t hold it against him and will probably be a strong advocate for everything that he wants to do i.e. there’s probably going to be a scene of Kevin getting a call to do a great acting job and Madison will urge him to go and not to worry about her, but he will, and it’ll be yet another catalyst for him to realise that she’s become more important to him than he’s realised/thought possible.

Everything leading up to Kevin proposing will be real ANGST CITY though like you just know that they’re going to make it heart-wrenching for us viewers TIU-stylez. I can almost see the scenes of Kevin telling Madison that he’s fallen in love with her only for her to tell him that what he’s feeling isn’t real or whatever and him doing everything he can to assure that he really has fallen for her and not just for their kids and ughhh I’m already crying just thinking about it! I’d like to see Kate in the middle of this, actually, as both Kevin and Madison’s confidante when it comes to each other.

In terms of other characters, I’m thinking Rebecca will be more prominent after the twins are born mainly because I’m not sure when exactly she leaves the clinical trial for her to be at the 40th birthday or when the proposal even happens (my guess is closer to the birthday). Perhaps Madison being pregnant plays a big part in Rebecca leaving the trial given that she wants to be there for her and for Kevin - she does have the experience of a multiple pregnancy, but can’t tell yet. They can definitely bond over the pregnancy, but I see it more as a chance for Kevin and Rebecca to bond even more too in terms of flashbacks to the early days of her pregnancy with the big three and how her and Jack are navigating it together and post-pregnancy too with screaming newborns.

And I honestly don’t see Miguel anywhere in this situation apart from being happy for Madison and maybe joking around with her about her finally being part of the family and not just having to put up with them.

After the twins are born and leading up to the wedding day will be very interesting too because they’re obviously juggling a stage of complete responsibility for newborns whilst navigating their feelings for each other. I mean sure, they’re engaged, but they’re also newly in love so having to juggle that with such immense responsibilities of caring for their newborns whilst trying to have alone time together is going to be hectic. Their dynamic is going to shift a lot and there may be some clashes there as they try to work things out and this is where the real testing happens in their relationship where it can go both ways: Kevin finds solace in the chaos of his new family as he juggles his work and his issues with Randall and his mother’s deteriorating health or Kevin will feel overwhelmed and find other ways to find relief. I doubt the latter will happen though because Madison will play a huge role in Kevin’s life.

She’ll be the Rebecca to Kevin’s Jack and she will be his anchor. That’s why the wedding will be the greatest parallel of all. Jack and Rebecca got married at city hall, but they won’t. We didn’t get to hear Jack and Rebecca say their vows to each other but we will definitely hear Kevin and Madison say it to each other and it’ll reinforce the “great love” and “love of my life” theme of the Pearsons, but with them two being the most unconventional and unexpected of them all. 

It’ll be the most beautiful conclusion to Madison’s story specifically. Her whole story revolved around her never finding anyone to love her enough to commit to her or see a future together with her even though she gives them her everything to make it work but now, finally, and unconventionally, she finally found him, and she gets to have him as the father of the children she thought she’ll never have. Woo!

Also, I’m super excited for them to explore the comedy aspect of Madison too now that she’s paired up with Kevin, who is the funniest Pearson/character in the show. Madison’s pretty on par with Kevin in terms of wit and unlike all the other ladies who’s fallen for ol’ Kevo, Madison will definitely challenge Kevin like no other by calling him out (“Why would you even say that to me right now?”) and ordering him around and be super unapologetic about it but doing it all with so much love and affection for him and it’s going to be great! I AM SO READY TO SEE MADISON SHINE ✨

Blog #6- POV & Perspective

In the short story “Tandolfo the Great” by Richard Bausch, he uses the Limited Omniscient POV to narrate his story. We not only see the exterior world of Rodney/Tandolfo, but get a glimpse at his feelings and thoughts in the story. We learn that Tandolfo is prepared to risk everything to express his love for his co-worker, with whom he is friends with. The catalyst is her note that she is engaged and Tandolfo must go to extreme measures to “win” her over and devises a plan where he purchases a large wedding cake and takes it to her house.

The entire perspective is narrated in one day and encompasses his thoughts and feelings in this small time frame. His perspective begins as he looks in the mirror and insults himself while getting ready. We learn that he is life’s loser but still a romantic. He is sad but wants to win friends by doing magic tricks.

The stakes for my character Parker is a living legacy since he is terminally ill.

My narration will by Omniscient POV. I will zip between characters and not stay in the same character perspective for long. Parker has a love interest (sort of) named Melanie that I will narrate and share her perspective and inner thoughts and feelings. 

So far this has allowed me to introduce the deep characteristics of several main characters while narrating the story.
