Roevember Day 28: Memory

You'd think the grief would lessen at this point in my life, bein' thirty-seven, and having experienced countless other forms of grief and loss. But no, it never does. You learn to live with it, no matter how hard some days are when it bares its teeth to your heart, threatening to tear open the wound all over again. And again. And again. My parents never got to see me grow up. My dad, once a fierce but caring warrior of the Dotharl, never got to see me accept that I am my own person that rejected their beliefs. My mom, a delightful and lively merchant, never got to see how I became a craftsman and loved to make trinkets for my partner and friends. They would've loved to see how far I've come in life. I wish theirs wasn't unfairly taken when I was a kid. It's hard to not feel an inkling of envy when I see other's with their parents, or parent, y'know? I wish I had more memories of them to share with the world. But... when I think about it, I guess I can share how they loved me enough to flee together, in hopes of letting me live the life I wanted. And how to steal fish and bread.
