idk when ill have time to actually write it sighs but ive had the idea of slenderman basically using tims dead friends against him (against their wills as well but they are arks now)
The rake hasnt slowed them down like thought just evan mostly hes gravely hurt and weak but even still he and tim have proven to be stronger together so the operator would take the time to strike when theyre weakest
Basically youd have evan bleeding out from his various wounds feom the rake attack ontop of a shower curtain tim ripped off the motel shower and draped in the back so the car doesnt get any more ruined with evans blood. Evan swears hes fine he doesnt need any help and yes tims seen him heal from injuries but none like this before he has a gaping slashes in his side and the a chunk missing from where his shoulder meets his neck plus every other little wound.
So tim who doesnt even know if he goes to the hospital or.. just keep going and try and move past the motel massacre they are leaving behind all while hearing evan try to quietly gasp for air and choke on blood.
Hes about to turn towards the next city get evan to the hospital claim a bear attack or some kinda of big cat hes not even sure if they are any in these woods a wolf maybe then anything just get evan help and forget this stupid trip fuck habit and take evan back home with him and theyll deal.
But just as he decides in this runs his hand over his face to be met with a sight that makes his stomach drop and ice run through his veins before hes swerving and skidding over the road to avoid the sight of a man wearing a biege hoodie a shadow for his face.
Gaining control of the car to pull to a stop at the side of the road evan letting out a small groan asking what the hell happened as tim grips the steering wheel trying to calm his breathing when theres a crack near the car
wide eyes slowling moving towards the sound and futher distorted by the dark anc branches tim can still see the silhouette of ...him standing before slowling and turning to walk futher into the woods and tim knows he shouldnt follow him brians dead hes been dead for years hes accepted this his friends are gone and running after him into the dark forest would be the worst decision.....
Hed put the car in park and quickly takes off after him calling after brian if evan exists here now and hes mentioned before that there other "realms" and habits a athing maybe ... maybe brian is back in a way adrenaline rushing in he runs and runs but he cant seem to find or catch up no matter how close he gets the woods seem fo be clsoing in grabbing at his ankels pushing throu until hes falling out of an opening pushing himself up brushing off the leaves and twigs.
Chest heaving eyes widing at the sight of an abandoned building that doesnt exist anymore torn down due to lack of upkeep but here it stands just how he remembers it. He scans the building for anything he brain lead him here right he must be trying to tell him something.
He takes a step towards it stopped by the growing ringing in his ears he could nothing but cover his ears but it feels like its coming from inside his head eyes squinting against the pain and catches a glimpse of a hoodie disappearing through a door.
He grits his teeth and shakes his head before taking off towards where they disappeared pulling the heavy door with difficulty sliping inside as it slams shut with a deafening boom
The halls barely lit by the moonlight spilling in from busted windows a chill breeze blowing leaves he backs against the door thats as soild as a wall now. Its quiet not even the sounds of the forest and he knows hes made a mistake.
and theb he hears it its so quiet at first he cant make it out
his name being called out for and hes taking off before he can think its jays voice

the roar of the engine drowned out everything, but even over the adrenaline-fueled rush, leo could feel the shift in the car as nathan rammed them from behind. the sound of metal scraping against metal cut through the night, an ugly, piercing noise that clawed at his nerves. for a split second, leo’s vision tunneled, the world narrowing down to the brutal reality of who he was up against. the bastard wasn’t racing to win. he was here to play dirty, to remind leo of the damage he was capable of causing—and this time, he wasn’t just going to take a victory lap. he could feel her panic radiating off darcy, but he couldn’t take his eyes off the road, couldn’t look at her—not yet. the car’s wheels skidded slightly as he corrected, his grip on the steering wheel tightening. his pulse hammered in his ears, but his mind was sharp now. leo didn’t need to answer darcy—she knew the rules. there were no rules in this world. and especially not when it came to nathan. "he doesn’t care about the rules," leo growled through gritted teeth, eyes narrowing as he glanced at the rearview mirror. nathan’s car loomed behind them, closing in again. he was toying with leo, just like before—just like he had when cass was alive. pushing boundaries, testing limits, until everything shattered.
leo pressed down on the gas, the car surging forward as they approached a tight turn. his mind was a whirlwind of emotions, but one thought rose above the others: he couldn’t let this end like it had before. not again. not with darcy in the car. she was his world now, and nathan wasn’t going to rip that away from him, too. "hold on," leo barked, his voice edged with urgency as he approached the turn at an almost reckless speed. nathan’s car surged forward again, the headlights flashing menacingly in the rearview mirror. it wasn’t just a race anymore. it was a cat-and-mouse game, and nathan was pushing harder, forcing leo to react. "he’s trying to rattle us," leo said, his voice low and controlled, though the storm inside him was anything but. "but he’s not getting past me." he shot forward, pushing the car’s engine to its limit, feeling the raw power beneath him. the track ahead opened up—a straightaway with just enough room to get some distance between them and nathan. but leo knew better. nathan wasn’t just here for the win. he was here to push leo to the edge, to bring him face to face with the past he had spent years trying to forget. In his rearview, nathan’s car swerved, trying to line up for another hit. leo’s jaw clenched. nathan wasn’t going to stop until something broke—either leo’s resolve or the car.

"Whatever you say, baby." She was not about to poke the bear. The blonde could ask about it later, and she would. It was not often she saw her lover so shaken up and angry. The words 'someone I used to run with' didn't give much away, but Darcy theorized something must have happened.
Darcy let out a small scream as they started. The shouting and the screaming of the fans drifted off into silence. The adrenaline that pumped in her veins was a familiar feeling that she didn't know she was craving. The thrill, the speed. She loved it all. She leaned against her chair, her right hand holding onto her seatbelt while the other held onto her seat. Her eyes fell to the car next to them, catching a glimpse of the driver. Darcy didn't recognize him, not one bit. Not from around the track, not from any pictures Leo had shown her before. This man was nothing to her, yet for some reason meant so much to Leo. The track they were on was mostly empty, with few cars here and there. Even then, they blasted their horns as the two fast figures cut them off.
Suddenly, there was a loud thud at the back of the car. The other driver had slammed his dashboard into their rear. Metal on metal screeched. It was a loud, ugly noise. Darcy's heart dropped, eyes dancing between Leo and the other driver. "Can he do that?" She guessed not, but the panic was evident in her voice.

Letterkenny Crack
This is a Mermaid AU you have been warned. pre-Wayne/Darry.
If you asked most of the good people in Letterkenny, they’d tell you that Wayne was without a doubt the toughest guy in town. A really good guy, just all around stand up; he kept to himself, but never avoided a polite chit-chat with neighbors or ag hall members. Ran his farm with ease and always put out a good crop, fought with honor and defended his own- that was all most people really cared to know about him.
He’d never really had a sweetie(except for Angie) and that goss would circulate every few years when someone decided to try their luck asking him to dance at the jamboree or sum’such. It never stuck, and people would find something else to talk about until another party came around and others would give it the old college try.
The best thing about Wayne, in most the town’s minds anyway, wasn’t just the good fights he put on or his honest-to-god good ole’ boy way of going about things- it was the lake that bordered the north side of his property. Like his Dyad had when they were kids, every summer Wayne opened the back driveway from noon to 4 or 5 and let people drive up in their trucks for a few hours of swimming. Most of the lake sat on the state-owned wildlife preserve that curled around the north and east sides of the farm, but they had a solid 3rd of it that was great for swimming and fishing, as long as people stayed respectful.
Wayne himself spent a good deal of time out by the lake, thinking or drinking. Always in the morning when there was no one about. Katy worried about him sometimes, especially after Angie’s cheated on him; when he’d disappeared and they’d found him, two days later passed out on the shore of the lake completely soaked through.
But Wayne was never one for many words, content to spend a good deal of time alone or with his dogs, and she understood. He had his own demons, and she trusted him to come to her when he really needed help.
But this isn’t a story about Wayne being alone, or not liking people that much(because as polite as he was, he really didn’t like most folks all that much), this is the story of how Wayne and Derry met.
One morning, long before chorin’ needed to be done, Wayne bolted upright in his bed. Whatever dream had woken him was already fading from his mind, leaving behind only a vague sense of wonder and alarm. He sat quietly trying to remember for a moment, but soon enough drew a blank. Rolling out of bed, he looked out his back window towards the lake, out of sight on the other side of the field. Wayne had a strange feeling, as he dragged on jeans and a button up, that something was happening.
Without realizing it he’d rushed out of the house, pulling a dart from his pack and lighting it, beelining for the lake with long rolling strides.
As he got closer to the edge of the property he could see little flashes of green light from over the hill- getting brighter as he cleared the corn field and making his alarm grow. Wayne hadn’t brought a flashlight, and now he was glad he hadn’t announced his presence- if there were skids partying on his property after dark, he’d send them running with their tails tucked between their legs.
He ran the last few feet up to the crest of the hill and stopped cold. Blinked a few hundred times, because what he saw didn't make any kind of sense.
There, sliding leisurely through the water on the bank of the lake was fucking mermaid. He couldn’t think of another word for it that was for gd sure- clearly the upper body of a man, no legs, just fish from the hips down. Wayne scrubbed at his eyes hard, blinking the water out and letting his peepers adjust. It was still there after, tail pushing water lazily, upper body reclined on the shore. Glowing, for god's sakes, biolights flashing a soft green and blue and lighting the water like some kind of scene from a fairy tail.
He didn’t even register his legs taking him closer until suddenly he was only a few feet away, and big, glowing green eyes flickered up to him.
Wide, luminous, and wet as a dewdrop, Wayne watched two sets of translucent eyelids flutter in shock before yellow pupils shrunk into slits of alarm. Even as everything in him screamed at him to flee he was stuck, making intense eye contact with this strangely-human looking fish.
Two things happened in an instant. The Mermaid’s face split like a snake’s, mouth too wide and full of sharp teeth. Messy wet curls flew about his head as he flipped, hissing and backing away from the farmer faster than a deer in headlights.
Wayne stumbled back from the bank and slipped as loose sand and clay gave way, landing him right in the water with a splash. The hissing, barking sound continued as the hick threw his arms over his head and clenched his eyes shut. Lights flashed under his eyelids and his ears rang.
After a few long moments of heart pounding panic, the farmer stopped hearing hissing and a warm weight moved behind him. He opened his eyes to find the mermaid only a few inches from him. Wayne wasn’t the best at reading people, but he’d say it looked curious- mad as a snake, teeth barred and body tense, but there was a confused tilt to its head, eyes wide and searching.
“Hw’re ye n’w?”
And if that bomb didn’t take him out just a little. Wayne was sitting chest deep in freezing lake water, at four in the morning, tangled up with the canadian creature of the black lagoon and it was fucking speaking to him. He raised his head to meet those glowing green eyes again, took a deep shivering breath and said.
“Oh not so bad.” Lies. He was very overwhelmed right now.
Now that Wayne had a chance to see it up close, it was hard not to stare. Other than it’s eyes, which had no whites and shined like emerald fuckin’ gemstones, the top half of it looked just like a scrawny, less hairy dude maybe a little younger than Wayne- wiry and muscular, smaller by a bit, with a mop of curly wet hair that hung around it’s face and stuck to it’s neck. Freckles and a scale or two decorated it’s body, everywhere that could be seen, pale skin making the seamless transition to a fully green-scaled tail somewhere around the hip bones. There were little fins that Wayne thought might be for steering, on his elbows, wrists and sides; they were laying flat against his body now.
“S’rry.” It wheezed, and Wayne couldn’t help but wince; that was certainly not a voice meant for english, that’s for sure. But the fish continued anyway. “M’ Derry.”
“I’m Wayne.” It was only polite to introduce yourself. “I know.” Unless you were introducing yourself to a creepy mermaid, apparently. Wayne gave Darry an utterly unamused look and said- “Wish you weren’t so fuckin’ awkard, bud.”
When those words left Wayne’s mouth Darry lit up, literally, the entire rainbow and then some bathing the water around them in a halo. Darry pressed up against Wayne’s chest, hands sliding lightly up his arms to rest on his shoulders.
“A’right, bud. No awkward.”
Wayne almost choked when, as the words left the merman’s mouth, his head dipped down, teeth and lips grazing sensitive skin through fabric. He heard Darry take a deep inhale, chest rumbling like a cat.
“Take about 30% off ‘er there, Derry.” Wayne lifted his hand slowly to pat the merman’s arm and earned himself a toothy smile. Felt slimy as the bottom of the lake, for sure, but his hand wasn’t bit off and his new pal(?) didn’t even flinch, so he counted that as a win. Darry was a freaky lake monster, but Wayne could tell already that the guy was softer than 12-ply toilet paper. Even if he had a mouth full of lethal chompers.
“Now I’m gonna freeze if I stay in here any longer, so you better let me up.” Darry whined, all the anxiety and tension returning to him in an instant. His clawed hands tightened on Wayne’s shoulders.
“Wayne, don’ tell. Please.” Those huge eyes pinned Wayne with a pleading stare. “ ‘m a secret. No tell ‘nyone.”
Wayne rubbed Darry’s arm again, thinking it might calm him down some. “O’ course not. It’ll be our secret.” He paused, looking out over the water and then back to Darry. You didn’t meet a mermaid every day, that was for GD sure- and technically, Darry was his neighbor. It was always polite to maintain good relationships with your neighbors. “And if you like, I’ll come back and visit ya. That’s my house right over there.” He pointed.
That got Darry smiling again. Wayne heaved himself to his feet, dripping wet. The merman pulled away as he stood, eyes following the line of Wayne’s form as he straightened and peeled off his soaking flannel with a shiver. Playful hands tugged at his ankles, but didn’t drag him back down.
“Alright. See ya, Dar.” And with that Wayne tore his eyes away from his new friend, trudged up the bank toward the field and the house beyond it. He felt eyes stay steady on his back until he’d crested the hill.

Orignal Work, Reed900, Murder Case - Man and Woman, YK Model Found, Truama, Nicholas, Case Closed, To Be Decommissioned, Taken In By Pair, Recovery
//Feelings. This may get its own full length work at some point bc I loved writing it //Cw for homicide, child trauma and the things that come with that, and a graphic-ish depiction of violence.
This case was one that neither Gavin or Richard had seen before. Normally something like this would be handled by Hank and Connor but they were working a high profile serial killer case and couldn’t spare the time or manpower which left the other human android detective duo. Gavin was looking over the crime scene as Richard scanned it looking for evidence. He was about to interface with the deactivated YK500 model but as soon as he touched the smaller android  the little boy’s eyes fluttered open and locked on Richard wide and full of panic. One eye was a deep forest green and the other was shut off from damage. He squeezed Richard’s arm tight enough that if it had been Gavin it would have bruised. Richard let the skin on his arm fall away and called for Gavin as the interface started. “Gavin, we’ve got a survivor in here!” He called before he allowed the interface, the last thing he heard before he was pulled under was Gavin’s rushed footsteps coming into the room.
YK500 531-213-41 Designation: Nicholas is requesting contact: Y/N Y Interface initiated
Nicholas: are my parents okay? Richard: We have people helping them Richard: Can you tell me what happened here?
He felt echoes of Nicholas’s panic as the memories travelled through the interface. He had seen the whole thing, and screamed so the killer had gone for him next, they were human by the looks of it and the fact that the blood left at the crime scene was red. They cut the interface soon after and Richard let go of Nicholas, but the child model was still clinging to him. When Richard was fully aware of himself again he motioned Gavin over, he was better with kids. “This is my friend Gavin, he’s also a detective he’s gonna ask you some questions while I check on your parents.” The child model turned his head so he could see Gavin, he gave the detective a once over before moving to cling to the human detective. Richard looked at Gavin, “I don’t know that he can speak so let him interface with your work tablet or phone please.” Gavin nodded and Richard headed back to the main crime scene.
He scanned it for more evidence now that the cursory scan was over and they had found Nicholas, he wanted to go over the crime scene with a fine toothed comb to find everything he could. He sampled evidence, scanned the room again, and ran reconstructions. He came away with three DNA profiles, two belonging to the victims and the third from their biological son who was in his thirties, the same man from Nicholas’s memory.. He was returning to Gavin when he heard the detective yelled. “Get some fucking techs in here! Nick is crashing!” Gavin’s voice shook, he was angry and was fighting off tears. Richard ran the rest of the way. He skidded to a halt in front of the YK model. “Gavin, if we get asked about this, it’s for the case. Nicholas is living evidence okay.” Gavin was rightfully confused. Richard kneeled down and forced an interface with Nicholas.
Richard: Don’t be afraid, I am going to back up your memories okay Nicholas: I don’t want to go! I want to stay until my mom and dad get back! Richard: Let me do this okay? You’ll be taken care of I promise. He felt Nicholas hesitate for a moment before he gave Richard access to his memories. He was as gentle as possible as he took them, saving them to a locked file simply titled ‘nick’. The techs arrived a short time before he finished and Gavin kept them at bay with the evidence argument. Richard pulled away once he was done and they took his place. They didn’t have anything else they could do here. They did have a suspect by the name of Jacob Hall to track down. Richard was working on getting the warrant for his arrest, using some of Nicholas’s memories and the evidence from the crime scene. the fact that a child’s life was on the line expedited the process. When he received the warrant he emailed it to Gavin, and worked on tracking down Jacob’s last known address. Gavin let him work in silence, but he could see something was eating at him Richard could tell. Normally he would wait for Gavin to say what was bothering him, but the android had a feeling he already knew. “He’s going to be okay Gavin, I have a back up of his memories so even if the technicians can’t get him back online we can find another model to upload him to.” He heard Gavin sigh. “That’s not the point Rich, he’s only hanging on because he thinks he’ll get to see his parents again.” Gavin said quietly, his voice was quiet and unsteady, “There is no one left here to look after him. Would it really be worth it to wake him at all?” “We’re here aren’t we?” Richard asked, “We could always look after him.” “Richard, Nicholas is a whole ass child, he is going to stay a whole ass child unless he decides he wants to be part of the Growing Up program,” Gavin sounded like he was making plans, like he was considering it, “He’s gonna be shut down if no body claims him. I couldn’t let that happen.” “Take a left up here detective.” Richard interrupted. “Raising a kid isn’t like taking care of a cat.” Gavin sighed, “What if he hates us?” “I don’t think he will.” Richard reassured as he placed a steady hand over Gavin’s on the steering wheel. “If we get in trouble for this I’m blaming you.” Richard nodded, before something caught his eye out his window, “Gavin I need you to either slow down or pull over.” “What?” Gavin was snapped out of his thoughts by Richard unbuckling and reaching for the door, “Richard we are going 50!” “That’s why I need you to slow down detective, I saw the suspect, I will send you my location when I have him apprehended.” Richard replied opening his door. “Richard what the fuck!” Was all Richard heard as he rolled out of the car, when he came to a stop, he stood and followed the suspect. When he was close enough he announced his presence, “Detroit Police, I would like to speak with you for a moment.” Jacob broke into a run, so did Richard. The android had an easier time navigating the terrain than the human did and soon had him in cuffs. He pinged Gavin and the detective showed up a short time later serving the warrant and read him his rights.
The interrogation was a struggle for them both, Gavin was livid and let it show, and Richard was struggling not to do the same. He was supposed to be the reasonable one, he was the android but, this was something else. None of them had done anything wrong. Gavin was getting close to his breaking point, child cases were hard for any detective, but they hit a little too close to home for both Gavin and Hank. Jacob was also spitting a lot of android remarks that were getting under Gavin’s skin. About a year and a half ago he had shared those sentiments. “Detective, why don’t you take a break, go catch your breath.” Gavin looked like he wanted to argue, but it seemed to dawn on him that this wasn’t a suggestion, “Get yourself some coffee. I could use some thirium while your there.” “Alright,” Gavin responded as he got up to leave, “If you need me I’ll be on the other side of the glass.” He was almost to the door when Jacob piped off again, “So you let it order you around then? Some detective you are.” Gavin turned to start a fight and Richard stopped him by grabbing his shoulders and blocking the detective’s path with his body, “Gavin, it’s not worth it, go catch your breath.” The android whispered. Gavin wilted a little but left the interrogation room to go take a breather. Richard turned and took the seat across from Jacob at the table and gave a sinister grin, “I know you don’t like androids, and that works fine for me because I don’t like most humans. Here’s the thing though; I’m not the one of us that is going to need to leave the room to maintain bodily function, I can sit here until you decide to talk. So we can talk about why you decided to kill your parents and adopted younger brother, or we can have the world’s longest staring contest.” “It wasn’t my brother.” Jacob said curtly after Richard had finished. “I moved out and they replaced me with a robot child so they could still feel useful.” Richard grit his teeth, “So you killed them? Why not steal Nicholas?” He hated suggesting that, “Why did it have to be murder?” “They replaced me!” Jacob shouted, “I left for college, to pursue dreams of my own and they just buy another kid! One that won’t grow up, never rebel, never disobey, and never leave. Why bother with your independent human son when you have a little play thing that would never grow up?” “So you murdered your parents and little brother, because you were jealous?” Richard asked again, deliberately using the title for Nicholas, because as long as Jacob was mad he would talk. “That little scrap heap wasn’t my brother, it was my replacement!” He snapped, “They all had it coming, but especially that little toy.” Richard leaned forward, he could feel the confession coming. “I knew where he was the whole time you know.” Jacob said with a sinister smile, “There’s this table in the entry where with a cabinet under it in the entry way, I used to hide there too. I let him see what I did to my parents as i took them from him. Let him see what I was going to do to him. Show him what he had caused.” Jacob paused, he didn’t seem to realize he was referring to Nicholas by male pronouns and Richard wasn’t about to tell him. “Then he had to fucking scream. Someone heard him so i had to be quick, I couldn’t to what I wanted to so I just beat his head against the stairs until he shut off. He was crying the whole time, like it actually hurt him. Like he could feel it.” Richard felt sick, which was quite a feat considering as he didn’t have any organs. Rage boiled beneath the surface, but he kept his temperament in check, “You are aware that legally speaking androids are people right? Despite what your personal opinion might dictate. So if Nicholas cannot be saved you are going to be booked on three counts of first degree murder.” Richard stood and nodded toward the two way mirror, “Thank you for the full confession though, it makes our job a lot easier.” Jacob was still puttering with anger as Richard left. Gavin met him in the hall and looked at him with concern. “Your LED is red.” He answered Richard’s unspoken question, “Turned as soon as you left the room.” Richard took the offered bottle of thirium and opened it, “Fifty stab wounds between the two of them all because they wanted another kid. He beat Nicholas’s head against the stairs until he went into emergency shut down and just left him there.” This was Richard’s first case involving a child, and he was starting to see why the other officers hated them so much. They hurt.
Three days later they got the call about Nicholas, he was fully repaired and ready for his memories to be reuploaded. If nobody claimed him after the trial he would be decommissioned. They were ready, they had papers for temporary custody of him while they waited on the adoption papers to come through. They went to the android hospital. Nicholas was in a bed and in stasis. His synthskin was on and he looked peaceful like this. Now that parts of his face were not chipped off and missing. Richard approached the bed and let the skin of his hand fall away. He apologized to the quiet room before he started the memory transfer. When it completed Nicholas woke himself up screaming and Richard was quick to try and soothe him. They were still connected so he send waves of calm and comfort over the link until the fearful pained cry settled onto sniffles and sobs. He sat on the bed and hugged the child model to him. “They aren’t coming back are they?” Nicholas asked once he was able to speak, “Humans don’t get to come back.” Nicholas sniffled again and his breathing stuttered before he spoke again, “You are going to have me talk at the trial and then I am going to be shut down because no one wants a damaged kid.” Gavin spoke before Richard did, “Remember what I said to you on the couch kiddo? That I wasn’t gonna let anyone else hurt you. That means Cyberlife too. Richard and I signed some papers so you can come stay with us after this.” Nicholas turned to look at Gavin, and Richard noticed their eyes were pretty close in color, “Do you promise?” “I cross my heart.” He came to sit on the other side of Nicholas. “You’ll be here for a couple more days, so they can make sure that you’re alright, and then on Friday we’ll be able to bring you home with us.” Nicholas seemed happy with that and relaxed between the two of them. They visited him every day until Friday. They took that day off and took Nicholas home  in the morning and stayed with him as he roamed the house. The weekend went by without too much trouble. The weeks leading up to the trial were a little rough. Nicholas would have panic attacks if he was left alone, so one of them would have to call off to stay home with him, and if that didn’t work he would come to the station with them. The trail was thankfully short but it was hard on Nicholas. Hearing that he was the cause of his parents death in Jacob’s eyes dug up things that the little android had kept buried, and it took months to get him to open up again.
It was two years later when he came to Gavin and Richard and asked to be put in the Growing Up program, he wanted to experience life to the fullest. He had said they were his family, and for the first time since he had deviated, Richard cried. They all had, but it was a sure sign that things were looking up. It would be a rough road ahead, agreeing to grow up wasn’t going to fix anything, but he wanted to be come a man that his mom and dad would have been proud of. He didn’t quite see Gavin and Ricard as parents, but they were his family and he loved them.

Hiding In Plain Sight
1.
‘Shit.’ Stiles sat up abruptly and waved his hands frantically in Derek’s face. ‘Put your clothes back on.’
‘Huh?’ Derek frowned and under normal circumstances, Stiles would have been completely smitten with that little wrinkle between the Murder Brows ™ but he knew the sound of that car and he also knew that if Lydia caught them in flagrante delicto, he would never hear the end of it.
‘I mean it.’ He scrambled off the bed and peered out his window. ‘Fuck, she’s almost at the front door.’
‘Lydia?’ Derek, bless his heart, was actually up and fishing around for his henley, grabbing it off the floor and yanking it over his head. ‘Why are you worried?’
‘Because…well.’ Stiles wrung his hands. ‘Okay, so it’s literally only been a couple of months since we broke up and when we did break up, do you know what she said?’
‘That you were hung up on me?’ Derek grinned, all teeth. He had heard this story, in fact it was one of the reasons he’d finally made a move.
‘And do you know what I replied?’ Stiles narrowed his eyes at him.
‘That she was crazy and that you were in no way interested?’ Derek was smirking, amusement in every line of his face. It was a good look on him and Stiles was torn between wanting to wrestle him to the bed and carry on with what they’d started and shove him in the closet. That mental image made him snicker before the doorbell rang and he grabbed Derek and hustled him towards the window.
‘Stiles!’ Derek protested, but he let himself be steered. ‘You know you’re going to have to tell her eventually.’
‘Ha!’ Stiles wrinkled his nose at him. ‘I’ll tell Lydia that she was right when hell freezes over. She thinks she knows me so well.’
‘She does.’ Derek pointed out and Stiles gasped in betrayal and used both hands to bundle him outside.
‘Give it twenty minutes and then come back in.’ he ordered and left Derek muttering about not even having a chance to put his shoes on before he retreated onto the roof and out of sight. His head popped back in a moment later. ‘It’s all iced over up here and I’m freezing my ass off!’
‘You’ll live!’ Stiles slammed the window shut, barely missing Derek’s fingers, and hurtled out his bedroom and down the stairs, stopping briefly to untangle himself from his own shirt that he was attempting to put on upside down, and then skidded along the wooden floor of the hall until he slammed into the front door.
‘Dammit.’ he muttered, wincing as he pulled it open and found Lydia looking at him with a very smug expression.
‘I win.’ she announced and Stiles glared at her.
‘You absolutely do not.’ he hissed and she arched an eyebrow at him. Neither of them backed down until there was a sound like a cat being strangled from the roof and Lydia’s eyebrow climbed to Everestian heights.
‘No?’ She smiled sweetly but Stiles was wise to her cunning ways. Any show of weakness would result in his imminent destruction.
‘No.’ He folded his arms and then realised that his fly was undone. He turned around and jerked it up, squeaking when he nearly got his dick caught. He could hear snickering behind him and wheeled back around to find Lydia’s eyes sparkling with mirth.
‘It’s hard to do up your pants when you still have a hard on.’ she pointed out and he went red.
‘I was jerking off.’ he protested and that was of course the time when Derek’s usual grace decided to desert him and he fell off the roof, making a very un-wolflike noise as he crashed into the bushes that flanked the front of the house. He sat up, blinking blearily and shaking his head like a wet puppy.
‘Hmmmm.’ Lydia shoved Stiles aside and swanned into the house past him. ‘So I see.’
2.
‘It’s a bit of a situation.’ Stiles was slumped so low in his seat that his ass was hanging off the chair. On the other side, the Sheriff heaved a sigh.
‘I don’t get why you don’t just tell them.’ he said and next to him, Derek made an I told you so face.
‘Shut up.’ Stiles gave him a look that he hoped was clear in it’s dissent to that particular idea. Derek snorted and went back to eating Stiles’ popcorn that he’d abandoned when Erica and Boyd had walked into the cinema.
‘Son.’ The Sheriff sounded like he’d rather be chasing down a multitude of bad guys than talking Stiles down from his self-imposed ledge. ‘You’re all adults. I’m sure nobody is going to have a problem with that fact that you and Derek finally pulled your heads out of your asses and got together.’
‘It’s not as simple as you make it out to be.’ Stiles grumbled. ‘I mean they all made such a big deal about the fact that me and Lydia had finally gotten together.’
‘You mean Scott made such a big deal about you and Lydia getting together.’ The Sheriff chuckled and Stiles wanted to strangle him. ‘Look, Scott’s just got to put on his big boy pants and realise that just because he still has a stick up his ass about Derek coming back an alpha and taking back his pack, it’s no reason for you not to be happy.’
‘Fuck.’ Stiles’ entire face creased up. ‘I hate it when you’re reasonable.’
‘It’s a gift.’ His father sounded unbelievably fond. ‘No go back to watching your movie and make out with your boyfriend and stop trying to convince me to call in a bomb scare to the movie house.’
‘Thanks for nothing.’ Stiles pulled a face when he got hung up on, his father still chortling and then screeched like a small child when he found two pairs of glowing golden eyes looking at him from the row of seats in front.
‘You know we can hear you.’ Boyd said. His normally taciturn expression was bordering on gleeful and Stiles decided that made him look more evil than all the villains the pack had faced altogether, and that included Deucalion’s multiple iterations.
‘And smell you.’ Erica reached over and snagged a handful of popcorn. ‘Why are you two hiding back here and why is Stiles trying to cause a terrorist incident.’
Stiles gaped at them both and then looked at Derek accusingly.
‘You told them?’ He batted at Derek’s arm and his boyfriend fended him off easily, still managing to cram another mouthful in.
‘He didn’t need to.’ Boyd rested his chin on his arm. ‘We could smell it all over you the first time you fucked.’
‘’You’re just lucky that Scott is the ultimate failwolf and can’t use his nose for shit.’ Erica grinned, her fangs just showing. ‘Besides, it’s not like we have a problem with it. We won the pool.’
‘Cora’s still pissed about that.’ Derek smirked and Stiles felt he had no choice but to hit him.
3.
Stiles stretched luxuriously and turned to lean on one elbow, admitting Derek’s sleeping face. Even the fact that his wolf was on his back, mouth open and snoring like a band of happy lumberjacks let loose at a pine forest, couldn’t dim his ardour and he contemplated dipping under the covers and blowing him back to readiness.
Derek’s breathing hitched and he turned over onto his stomach, mumbling something about rabbis as he buried his face in the pillow and Stiles sniggered into his own pillow and then decided he needed something to drink. Sex with Derek was always athletic and enthusiastic and involved a hell of a lot of licking so feeling dehydrated was nothing new.
He sat up, using his toes to grab his discarded boxers and got up. He was still hitching them up when he cracked the door open and peered into the corridor. The new Hale house was a long white wood-cladded affair near the lake with Derek’s bedroom at the end of the corridor. Between him and the stairs was Peter’s room and Cora’s room, both of which were currently occupied. Thankfully, industrial strength soundproofing had been installed so he and Derek could be as loud as they wanted without anyone catching on. Boyd and Erica had been sworn to secrecy, as had Cora. She hadn’t even been allowed to tell Isaac, who she skyped daily.
He stumbled down the corridor, making his way downstairs and into the kitchen. It was all gleaming surfaces and had two enormous fridge freezers at the end. Stiles opened one, taking out a bottle of gatorade and cracking it. He downed half noisily and was just about to get started on the other half when the lights went on and he found himself face to face with a half naked Isaac.
‘Dude!’ He blinked in surprise. ‘Why aren’t you in France?’
‘Um…’ Isaac looked like a deer in the headlights. He had a series of huge bruises dotted all the way down his chest and it took all of a minute to put two and two together because clearly Cora and Her brother shared a marking kink.
‘Oh my God!’ Stiles hissed in excitement. ‘You two?’
‘Well, yeah.’ Isaac gave him a shy smile, one hand rubbing the back of his neck. ‘And I’m assuming that Derek did that.’ He gave Stiles’ neck a pointed look.
‘It’s new.’ Stiles opened the fridge again and grabbed a second bottle, chucking it over to him. ‘So are you back for good?’
‘I think so.’ Isaac’s eyes flitted towards the ceiling. ‘I’d like to be. I just got in this evening and things kind of got out of hand but this already feels more like home than any other place I’ve been.’
‘I’m glad.’ Stiles beamed at him. ‘And I know Derek will be really pleased to have you back.’
They drank the rest of their gatorade in silence, both of them catching each other’s eye and laughing.
‘This has got to be one of the most awkward things ever.’ Stiles grinned. ‘But if you’re back then what happened Chris?’ He stopped when that very person stumbled into the kitchen. He was also in nothing but boxers, his greying hair sticking up in every direction possible. He squinted at Stiles and Isaac and then looked sheepish as hell, especially when Stiles clocked the massive bite mark on the slope of his shoulder.
‘Huh.’ He nodded at Chris’ mark. ‘Guess it runs in the family.’
4.
Derek woke with a start. He shot up, fangs and claws out and eyes flashing and then settled when he saw who it was that had interrupted his sleep.
‘Jesus, Kira.’ He rubbed his eyes. ‘What the hell?’
‘Just visiting.’ Kira had her wicked smile on. Since she’d joined her sisters in the desert, her propensity for mischief in keeping with her kitsune nature had become even more pronounced. ‘I wanted to say hi.’ She was balanced on her toes on the iron foot rail of his bed, her katana on her back and her black hair floating around her face, eyes burning orange.
‘Did you drive?’ Derek asked, swinging his legs over the side of the bed.
‘No, I flew.’ Kira floated up into the air and landed soundlessly. ‘Isn’t it cool?’
‘Very.’ Derek couldn’t help smiling at her. ‘What time is it?’
‘Around three.’ Kira tilted her head, frowning at the bed he’d just vacated. ‘What are those?’
Derek looked behind him and felt his face heat up. He grabbed the black lace panties and shoved them under the pillow.
‘Nothing.’ he replied but Kira’s smile was now bordering on demonic.
‘You’re getting laid?’ she squealed in excitement. ‘Finally! Who’s the lucky girl?’
‘Oh...er..it’s…’ Derek floundered, not quite sure how to lay things out in a way that she wouldn’t be able to pick up on him lying. ‘It’s not so much a girl as it is a guy.’
Kira’s shriek of delight was enough to have him wincing at the assault on his eardrums.
‘Is it Stiles?’ She practically had heart eyes. ‘Oh God, please tell me it’s Stiles. You’ve had the biggest crush on him for about forever.’
That was when the toilet flushed and the ensuite door opened to reveal Stiles looking like the cat that ate the canary and possibly the entire aviary while he was about it.
‘A crush?’ He was beaming as brightly as Kira was. ‘On me?’
‘Shut up, Stiles.’ Derek ducked his head, knowing he’d been completely and utterly rumbled. Kira had been the only one he’d confessed to.
‘No, wait a second.’ Stiles’ grin turned smug. ‘All this time, I thought I was about the luckiest person on earth that you would even look at me and it turns out that you were pining for me?’
‘I wasn’t pining.’ Derek muttered, folding his arms and trying to get back some of his dignity. ‘I admired from afar.’
‘He pined.’ Kira giggled. ‘He pined so hard that I think we ate the entire grocery store stock of Ben and Jerry’s that first month you were dating Lydia. He made me go on a road trip to Vegas where all he did was mope and play the slots.’
‘I hate you.’ Derek growled at her but she completely ignored him and went over to throw her arms around Stiles, the two of them bouncing around like kindergarteners.
‘This is so great.’ Kira dragged Stiles back to the bed and hauled him onto it with her, all three of them getting tangled up. ‘It’s like my brother and my other brother getting together.’
‘That would be incest, Kira.’ Derek felt he was obligated to point this out. Kira crinkled her nose adorably and then shrugged.
‘Meh.’ She wriggled so she was between them, getting comfortable on the pillows. ‘Geez, I’m bushed after all that. Can I stay and nap for a bit?’
‘Sure.’ Stiles grinned badly at Derek over her head. ‘Although you do realise we’re both still naked, right?’
Kira mumbled something indistinct, already half asleep. Derek regarded her and brushed her hair out of her face.
‘She’s fucking nuts.’ he said, voice full of affection.
‘I know.’ Stiles replied. ‘But then again, who isn’t?’
5.
Melissa hummed to herself as she wandered the aisles of the grocery store. It was nice having this time to herself between shifts and she stopped to peruse a selection of sandwiches, tapping her fingers against her mouth as she contemplated lunch.
A familiar voice broke through her reverie and she frowned and walked to the end of the aisle, peeking around the corner and grinning as she took in the scene in front of her.
Canoodling. There was no other word for it. What was even more amusing was who exactly was doing the canoodling.
She’d always known how affectionate and tactile Stiles was. When he’d been in elementary school and she and Claudia had got together for coffee while he and Scott tore around the playground at the park, she’d always loved how free he’d been with his affection. He’d always come back to Claudia for a hug or a kiss on the head before galloping off again, something Melissa had envied. Scott had become withdrawn after Rafael had left, not as accepting of Melissa’s overtures as he had been and she had missed it.
Then Claudia had gotten sick and Stiles’ sunny nature had clouded over and he’d turned from tactile to clingy in his desperation. Melissa knew that whenever she’d visit she would find him on Claudia’s bead, tucked under her arm or snuggled into her side. Then Claudia’s dementia had gotten worse and she’d stopped recognising her son and that warm physical affection had dried up. Noah had tried to be a substitute but Melissa knew that nothing could ever take the place of Claudia’s touch. She had died and Stiles had grown up far too quickly, and that reservedness had persisted. He’d taken to pulling himself back, putting himself out there with words and manic energy instead and that sunny happy child she had known was hardly to be seen.
This though, this was like getting hit in the face with the past and it made her heart soar to see it.
Stiles had Derek trapped against one of the milk fridges, hands on his hips and their noses almost touching they were so close. It startled Melissa a little to realise that there was barely an inch difference between them and how broad Stiles had gotten in the shoulders. He and Derek now faced off as equals rather than antagonists and Melissa was equally surprised to see the look of exasperated love on Derek’s face as he looked into Stiles’ eyes, his own arms resting on Stiles’ shoulders.
‘I have to get milk.’ he said and Stiles snorted happily and nuzzled at him.
‘Well, I have to get kisses.’ he replied.
‘We’re in the middle of the store.’ Derek protested but his eyes were crinkled up and he was smiling in a way that Melissa could never recall seeing him smile. He looked utterly besotted and it was a very good look on him.
‘Stop being a worry wolf.’ Stiles laughed. ‘The pack shops on the other side of town. Nobody will see us here.’ He peppered Derek’s face with kisses and Derek started honest-to-God giggling, trying not very hard to fight him off until Stiles got him good and pinned and kissed him properly, Derek’s arms looped around his neck and their bodies pressed up tight against each other.
Melissa watched until it got a little too heated and then turned and left, a smile on her face all the way back to the hospital.

‘Derek! Wake the fuck up!’ Stiles sounded panicked, more panicked than Scott had ever heard him. He was already moving to the door of the examination room when he was moved aside by Deaton. Boyd had laid Derek out on the stainless steel examination table, his shirt slashed by the harpy’s claws and deep rents in the skin underneath that bled freely. Stiles was in a state, his own clothes smeared with grime and his hair matted with what smelled like blood. Boyd wasn’t much better himself, battered and bruised, as was Erica. She was holding onto Derek’s hand tightly, not letting go even when Stiles shoved her aside to get to him.
Not for the first time, Scott realised he was out of the loop. He hadn’t even known that there was something up or that they were going hunting.
‘This is bad.’ Deaton’s usually calm was rattled. He disappeared and came back with a jar of oily looking green liquid. ‘Can someone hold his head?’
‘Why isn’t he healing?’ Cora asked, her dark eyes huge and full of tears.
‘Harpy venom is usually lethal to werewolves.’ Deaton nodded at Isaac, who lifted Derek’s head gently. Scott watched Deaton pry his mouth open and tipped the contents of the jar into it, Isaac steadying Derek so he wouldn’t choke. ‘Stiles. If ever you needed to use your spark, now is the time.’
‘Okay.’ Stiles wiped at his face, tears leaving clean streaks through the blood and dirt. He laid his hands on Derek’s chest and closed his eyes. ‘Come on, asshole. You don’t get to check out on me.’
Across the table, Cora took her brother’s other hand and Isaac laid Derek’s head down and moved to wrap his arms around her. Boyd came to stand alongside Erica, his arm around her waist.
‘Call him back.’ Deaton was looking at Stiles intently. ‘You know what he needs to hear.’
Stiles nodded, sniffling loudly when Derek’s wounds started to smoke as the potion kicked in.
‘Come on.’ He leaned down so his forehead was resting against Derek’s. ‘Please Derek, don’t leave me here without you. You know I can’t be alone anymore, not now I’ve got you with me.’
Scott frowned, his brain racing to catch up.
‘It’s not working.’ Erica was crying freely, her mascara streaked all down her face.
‘It will work.’ Stiles tightened his grip on Derek’s hands. ‘Come on, you stubborn son of a bitch. I need you and if you think I’m letting you go without a fight, well you can take that and stick it up your ass.’
As if on cue, Derek shuddered and took on a deep breath. He started coughing, eyes flying open to glow red as he convulsed on the table. All the other wolves ran to hold him down but it was horrible to watch, even as his wounds slowly sealed up and his breathing eased.
‘That’s it.’ Stiles was smiling through his tears. ‘Another deep breath, just like that baby.’
Derek’s head fell back to the table with a thump and he made a face that would have been comical if it hadn’t been for the circumstances.
‘I feel like I got chewed up and spat out.’ he croaked and everyone sagged in relief.
‘You almost did, man.’ Boyd laughed, but it was choked. ‘Fuck, we thought we’d lost you.’
‘I’m sorry.’ Derek looked up at Stiles, one hand coming up to cup his cheek. ‘I’m fine, okay.’
‘You’re not, but I’ll take it.’ Stiles replied, still crying and kissing Derek’s forehead. ‘You stupid self-sacrificing dick. If I didn’t love you so damn much, I’d kill you myself.’
Scott looked at Deaton, who shrugged, cryptic smile back in place.
Derek smiled, exhausted but soft.
‘I love you too.’ he replied, pulling Stiles down into an upside down kiss that went on and on and didn’t stop even when the back door slammed open and a wild-eyed Peter charged in, claws and fangs out and his eyes electric blue.
‘Harpies?’ He waved his hands at them, looking for all the world like Stiles when he flailed. ‘What the fucking fuck?’
Stiles and Derek broke apart, holding onto each other tightly.
‘Your pack.’ Stiles murmured, nosing at Derek’s hair.
‘Our pack.’ Derek replied and pulled him back down to kiss again.

                                                Lyes were often misunderstood.
Though they looked like animals on the outside, they were undoubtedly sentient.  Their intelligence was far higher than that of the average animal, and their ability to communicate their desires was second only to beings that were capable of speech.  Though most understood that these creatures were dangerous--  walking contradictions: fluff and venom all in one--  they often underestimated just how clever they were.
That was why, when he encountered Edgar yowling in the middle of the road, Murr knew that something was terribly wrong.
“Hey…  hey!  Quit that damn racket!”   He crouched, tired legs creaking like an old attic ladder.  In such a disgruntled state, the huro knew better than to try and pet him.   “What’s wrong with you?”
Tumblr media
What the lye couldn’t say, he made up for with action.  He rounded Murr swiftly, forcefully nudging his rear as if imploring him to stand up again.  He obeyed, hissing at the crack of his knees.  There was no time to focus on it as the lye suddenly darted down the street.  The entity reminded Murr of a perfectly shot arrow, straight and swift, and though his feet ached and his arms stung from his labour that day, he took off running after him, a brief “Hey!” being the only audible thing to leave him before momentum swallowed his sounds whole.
He followed Edgar as if he was the animal, drunk on loyalty, rucksack with his half-full lunchbox in it clattering dully against his back with every timed footfall.  He needs something but he can’t tell me what it is.  I wish he could tell me.  It’d make things so much quicker.  His thoughts parted like clouds when he witnessed the lye completely clear his orchard’s fence, dark form little more than a streak of shadow as he landed effortlessly on the other side, continuing his furious pace into the trees.  Dear Raku, Murr thought, vaulting over the obstacle similarly, it must be an emergency.
His pursuit came to a stop as he shadowed his companion up the hill to his house.  Pausing to catch his breath, he watched as Edgar dashed towards the nearby shed, pawing at it a few times before turning his head and staring expectantly.  His macabre gaze locked onto the huro in a way that made him shudder.  Had he not befriended Edgar, he likely would’ve felt afraid.
“Alright…  no need’a be so pushy,”   Murr muttered, closing the distance between himself and the door.  Hands patted lazily at himself as he tried to locate the set of keys he kept on him, eventually finding the appropriate one and sliding it into the thick padlock.  It opened with a cinematic clang, door pushed open so that the lye could slink through the thin gap and disappear into the darkness.  Murr allowed the door to swing all the way open, the dying light of the day spilling inside and illuminating the surroundings a little.  He watched with some amount of curiosity as Edgar clambered over the wagon he used to transport fruit, leaping from pail to pail as if he weighed nothing, eventually settling in the far corner of the room.  Even before Murr entered the shed, he knew what the other was after, expression quickly changing from intrigued to sour.   “Did y’seriously make me RUN from work just so you could have some goddamn fruit?”
     “Mrrrooow.”
Tumblr media
Murr felt his frustration build, a haughty huff heaved through his nose before he turned his back and began the loathsome hobble to his front door.  Growing up on the Murphy Orchard, he was more than used to hard work.  That being said, shifts at the factory--  shifts that he couldn’t get out of due to being the person who funded the creation of the place, therefore making him legally responsible for it--  killed something inside of him.  It was more than just exhaustion;  it was a deep-seated discomfort that was gained only from doing something that one despised.  Though he’d been raised to accept that work was part of the equation  (“With excess wealth comes great responsibility, Li’l Murph.  That’s just how it is.  You’ve been blessed, so you need to pay your dues in any way you can.”), that job was nothing short of hellish to someone like him.  He didn’t want to spend his days sandwiched between identical work benches, he wanted to stand on stage, hone his craft, make art--  but there were some things that just had to be done.
     “Myyyuuueeerrr…”
Though he doubted it, the utterance sounded awfully like his nickname, causing him to turn around and look at Edgar.  He was swatting at the fruit he’d left in one of the pails, eyes glowing white in an attempt to get the huro’s attention.
Murr let out a deep sigh, then trailed inside.   “Whaaat…?  C’mon, Eddie, I’m fuckin’ beat…”
As soon as he crouched low, the lye stood on his hind legs and tugged at the bag tucked neatly over Murr’s shoulder.  It dropped to the ground, zip tugged at with his teeth until he managed to pull it open.  The lunchbox was swiped out with his jagged tail, flung carelessly to the other side of the shed, before he dragged the empty bag towards the fruit, looking up at Murr once more.  It didn’t take long for the huro to piece together what he wanted.
Feeling curiously compelled to follow through, Murr began to scoop fruit into the bag until it was full.  When it was, he pulled the zip taut, watching as Edgar’s head bobbed briefly with approval before he got back up and began to walk from the shed.
Murr sighed, climbing back onto his feet, adjusting the bag properly over his shoulders.  Resignation had already begun to settle like dust:  his day was not over, despite how tired he was.
Tumblr media
     “Alright…  where’re we goin’, then?”
Edgar was a solid guide.  As soon as he began to barrel down the hill, guiding Murr through his acres of land with all the aptitude of the fabled North Star, Murr knew that they were headed for the No-Mans Land.  The deep forest that nobody but him had ever dared to call home…  it held some mystic charm that he couldn’t quite put into words.  Perhaps it was the questions that surrounded it--  where do its paths lead?  And why does everybody steer clear of them?--  or perhaps it was the fact that, once upon a time, he’d made the foreboding shadows his home.  It hadn’t been easy to leave the cushy life behind, mainly because of his family-oriented values.  He had realised pretty quickly that he’d lived sheltered and privileged despite how hard his parents had worked to teach him good, honest values, but it hadn’t been that difficult for him to adjust.  He had been raised not to take his wealth for granted;  therefore, when he abandoned his bank account in favour of living amongst nature, praying to Raku that it would create a blank slate for him, it hadn’t been that hard to accept that he was completely at the mercy of it  - and that, if he had any hope of surviving, it would be through learning a new way of life.  In some ways, that isolation had saved his life as much as it had destroyed it.
They tore through the woods together like a pair of seasoned bandits, Murr finding his pace as he went, and the descent into the shadowy undergrowth became a walk in the park.  He felt like a veteran when it came to traversing uncharted territory.  He had the best chance out of perhaps anybody in Huron of navigating this tumultuous space.  There was so much of Huron that most citizens didn’t know about, so much that lurked in the shadows, so many species and paths that existed independently of rhyme or reason or knowledge, and he could rest easy knowing that he was one of the few people who knew how to handle it.  At this point, there was not a single nook nor cranny in this place that he didn’t understand.
Edgar, deeply dissatisfied around water, barely thought about it before making the impressive eight foot leap across the landmark that Murr had dubbed Pebble Cove.  It was a shallow stream, knee-height at most, but the pebbles that littered the clear water made it appear much deeper, almost endless.  His way across was courtesy of two large, slippery stones some ways apart from one another.  There had been countless times where he’d lost his footing and gotten himself drenched from head to toe, but now he was used to it, knew exactly where to land in order to push himself onto the next one, then the bank, without skidding over and ruining his clothes.  Even with the bag full of fruit weighing him down, he crossed with the light-footed quality of an antelope, bouncing across as if completely unhindered.
Tumblr media
Their surroundings changed from sunset golds to emerald greens, the foliage becoming denser and shading everything a mesmerising tint of jade.  A cumbersome fog befell them as they snaked their way through thick thorns and hurdled over fallen logs, charging further into the faux-unknown like untethered warriors.  As he passed, Murr swore he saw pieces of himself lodged into landmarks.  The time he taught himself to fish in the Foggy Fissure;  the time he was swarmed by a gaggle of gluttonous glowflies after dark;  the time he’d slayed a derma plant and spared Edgar’s life in the process…   all things that had shaped him and his existence out there. Where are we going now?  Why are you leading me through all of these places?
He was relieved when Edgar began to slow down, mad dash reduced to a brisk stalk, long whiskers twisting and turning like antennae as he scanned his surroundings keenly.  He stopped completely at the base of a large tree, sitting down and waiting for Murr to approach.
“So,”   he started, slinging his bag from over his shoulders.  Now that he’d stopped moving, he felt the strain of his muscles, an uncomfortable fire burning in his joints.  He was pushing his luck.   “What business have y’got here, huh?”
The cat-like creature yawned, scratching at the bark listlessly before returning to its stationary pose.  Murr squinted, shuffling closer until he could crouch low.  As he ran his finger along the wobbly surface, he took note of a curious crease--  almost as if the bark was missing a zipper that could be pulled back.  It didn’t take long for him to realise that the markings were that of his friend’s, his powerful claws and dagger-like tail carving out an entrance.  Holy shit…  I knew Edgar was strong, but strong enough to hollow out a tree?  That’s new to me.
Stubbornly, Murr wriggled his fingers into the indentation until he was able to dig his nails in, pulling hard, feeling the bark eventually give way like a drawbridge.  He was immediately met with two poised tails, venom dripping onto the floor, and he barely had time to yelp before Edgar suddenly leapt in with all the grace of a kamikaze pilot.  With a bigger lye in the picture, both were quick to withdraw, stumbling backwards while hissing quietly.
“Who are these guys…?”   Murr asked.  It was more a question for himself than for Edgar.  He wasn’t so stupid to think that, just because he had one lye’s trust, he could suddenly blend with the rest of the specie.  But then why was he even here?

“Myyyuuueeerrr.”   Though Edgar sat motionless, tail curled calmly around his feet, Murr felt as if he was being beckoned inside.  It was only with a shred of reluctance that he did so, body curling in on itself so that he could fit through the makeshift door.  Once inside the hollow trunk, he was shocked to find that there was a lot more space than he first thought. Though he could by no means stand up, he could sit comfortably without dipping his head or bending his spine.  The back of his head met the wall, eyes cast to what he supposed was the ‘ceiling’.  A couple of feet above his head, an opaque cylinder of wood travelled upwards undisturbed.  They must only have dug out what was necessary for them to live comfortably, he mused, distracted only by Edgar fervently nudging his hand.   “Myyyuuueeerrr!”
For a few seconds, he was clueless, staring back at the lye with an empty head…  until he remembered the fruit he’d brought with him.
“Oh!”   he exclaimed, leaning forwards enough to shrug the bag from his back and open it.  As soon as starfruit entered the picture, both of the distrustful lyes fell silent, black eyes wide like dinner plates, before a pair of forked tongues stuck out in an attempt to taste it.   “Oh… here.  Lemme take it outta the bag real quick.”   He ignored the collaborative flinch, wholly prepared for them to act offensively, settling two pieces of fruit a short distance from their feet.  They glared sharply at him for several seconds, shark-like teeth bared like an armada of tiny knives, before they both let go of their aggression long enough to slink forward and snatch the fruit, retreating into the shadows at the back of the hole.  Slowly, he turned his head to look at Edgar instead.   “I get it now…   these little guys needed food.  But what was stoppin’ you from huntin’ yourself?”   There was a long pause, one filled with his friend examining his claws with evident disinterest.  Murr’s face fell deadpan.   “Oh.  Nothin’.  You just used me because it was easier.  You fucker.”   However, when Edgar’s pointed smile curved across his face, he couldn’t help but smile too.  There was something admirable about the lye’s intelligence, even when he felt the brunt of playing the fool.
He sat there for what felt like years, huddled in this small alcove deep in the woods, feeling safe despite being caged with three highly venomous creatures.  The more the two youngsters ate, the more docile they became.  His presence was met with the same indifference that Edgar treated him with;  a quiet respect, a vague version of mutual trust manifesting from the dark in very much the same manner that doubt did.  It was a tangible feeling despite its elusive, unspoken nature.  Whether or not they considered him a ‘friend, he knew that he was at the very least welcome for the meantime.
Tumblr media
When moonlight cast its dim cyan light, Murr felt it was time to leave.  However, when he went to stand up, he felt one of his legs refuse to move.  A glance down showed precisely why.  One of the lyes had dug its tail into the loose fabric of his pant leg, all but stapling it to the ground.  Though he had no doubt that he could free himself if he pulled hard, it would most likely result in the startled creature attacking him.
“Uh…  Eddie?”   he whispered, watching three pairs of ears twitch in his direction despite the fact that two of them were asleep.   “I can’t-- move-- oh…”   He fell quiet as Edgar clambered into his lap, curling into a ball, long bat-like ears wrapped around his head as he prepared to sleep.  He’s not going to let me leave, is he?
“Hah...”   Murr sighed deeply, allowing his legs to poke out of the entrance in an attempt to get more comfortable.  The moon’s luminescence made it look like he had a whole-body halo.  If only he could be that holy.   “... I guess it’s a sleepover then.”

Revving Hearts (Chapter 1)
“Plagg wants the Porsche that’s down by the boulangerie.” Chat Noir spoke into his cell phone as he sped down the street. He swerved and ducked around cars as he shifted. The neon green lights that accented his interior cast a green light on his skin. His black cat eared ball cap sat on top of his messy blonde hair and his oversized black hoodie had the sleeves rolled to his elbows. His black jeans were tight and torn at the knees, while his neon green and black ankle sneakers sat on his feet. He hit the clutch and sped around a car. “Look, all I’m saying is that that car comes first, Bugaboo. Not whatever lame one she’s got you after instead.”
“You know Tikki… She’ll never let it go if I don’t get her that red Ferrari.” Ladybug swerved through traffic in her own car. It had black black leather interior with red piping along the seats’ seams. The outside was a metallic cherry red color. She sped up and spotted him in the traffic. A smirk fell onto her lips as she hit the gas, shifted, and wound up beside him. She looked over and nodded at him. “Hey. Go left. We need to talk this through.”
Chat rolled his eyes and suddenly downshifted, taking the turn fast, cutting loose before the car caught itself and he sped up again.
She mirrored him and messed with her red button down shirt that she had tied beneath her breasts with the sleeves rolled up. A plain black tank sat underneath it, while her black jeans were tight. She wore red and white ankle sneakers. She shook her head as she watched him show off by suddenly slinging the car into a half spin to park it next to a curb.
She gracefully parked beside him and started to get out of her car. Chat sauntered up to her and slid along the ground in a smooth dance move towards her with the bill of his hat in his hand. He got down on his knee and took her hand in his, placing a kiss on her knuckles. “Long time no see, M’Lady.”
Ladybug scoffed and yanked her hand from his gasp. “Yeah, sure. Can we be serious about this please? We only have a short time because if the cops find out our plans… We’re screwed. Okay, kitty cat? And while you’re okay with being chewed out by Plagg.. I’m not okay with that happening with Tikki.” She crossed her arms across her chest and his shoulders slumped.
“C’mon...LB… When are you going to give this alley cat a chance?” Chat purred and gave her pouted lips and big emerald eyes. She shoved him away by his chest as he leaned into her.
“When this alley cat stops begging on his knees every damn time he sees me. Although, I believe I already did and he currently lives with me.” Ladybug shook her head and gripped his chin in her fingers. “Now, FOCUS KITTY! Which car is more important right now?” Chat got lost in her eyes and found it hard to focus. His heart sped up and when she noticed how his cheeks flushed beneath his black mask, she groaned. “Look, I know you like this bug, but this car job? It’s more important right now. So, I’m going to need you to FUCKING focus for me!” She pushed him away by his face and he rubbed his jaw, adjusting it.
“Alright, alright.” Chat sighed and tried to come up with a plan. He tapped his chin in thought before he figured something out.  “Look, why don’t we steal whatever car is closest to our location now? Then we’ll take the next one. Easy as making chocolate chip cookies and I know you love to bake those for me.” He batted his eyelashes and leaned closer.
“Stop.” Ladybug rolled her eyes and pushed him away. “Alright, then mine is closest. Want me to drive or do you want to?” She bit her red bottom lip and looked up at him with baby doll eyes.
“Is that even a question?” Chat smirked down at her and pried her lip from her teeth with his thumb. “You know this kitty loves to be in control and go fast.”
“Why does this not surprise me?” Ladybug shoved him out of the way and left him to be insulted that she missed his double  meaning.
She walked over to his car and climbed into the passenger seat. Chat quickly ran up to her, after adjusting his mask, and climbed into the driver’s seat. He turned the key into the ignition and plugged his phone in. He put the address into the GPS and headed to where they needed to go to get Tikki’s Ferrari. Ladybug adjusted her mask and fixed her red lipstick when he slowed down at a light for a fraction of a second, before he took off again. “Seriously?” Ladybug looked over at him with her lipstick in her hand.
Chat shrugged with a wink and shifted again, speeding up. “Do you really need to fix that right now?” He chuckled at her and focused back on the road as he broke loose around a turn. She sighed and put her lipstick away into her pocket. She clutched the ‘oh shit’ handle in her palm as he took another turn. “We’re here, Bugaboo.”
“Again. Stop calling me Bugaboo when we’re on a job, Chat.” Ladybug rolled her eyes at him as he swung his car against the curb to park.
“Yeah, well. We’re here, so get ready, LB.” Chat looked at her unamused and focused on the red Ferrari behind them.
She touched his chin and leaned into him. “For luck.” She kissed him on the lips and he leaned into her, begging for more than just her lips. She broke the kiss and winked at him with her tongue between her teeth. “Don’t lose me, Kitty.” She climbed out of his car and he hit his steering wheel with his wrist as he shook his head.
“This woman, man…” Chat put his car into gear as he watched her through his rearview mirror. He watched her work the lock on the outside of the car and climb in. She bent down to hotwire it, before she gave a peace sign and shut the door.
Chat heard her rev her engine and he did the same, taking off after her down the street. He watched her weave through traffic as he hit her face on his phone to call her. “Careful on this turn up here.”
“You don’t think I haven’t driven through this city enough times, Chat?” Ladybug rolled her eyes and nearly missed a tow truck.
“I saw that, Bugaboo.” Chat burst out laughing and heard her growl on the other side of the phone.
“You wanna drive this?” Ladybug scolded him through the phone. “You’re driving me insane. Absolutely crazy!” He could hear the irritation in her voice and he shifted to speed up behind her and around a few cars.
“Actually… I would love to drive that Bugaboo, but that’s gonna have to wait for tonight.” Chat winked at her as he pulled up beside her.
Ladybug screamed and flipped him off, before she shifted and took off faster down the line of traffic. She weaved in and out through the traffic and took the next turn hard.
He raced after her and skidded around turns until they got to Tikki’s car company. Ladybug parked the Ferrari inside of the building and she climbed out of the fancy sports car.
A woman with pale skin, short black tipped crimson hair, and a curvy figure, walked out from an office. Her eyes were a deep lavender and her outfit was to die for. She wore a red skater style dress with black and white converse shoes. Gold necklaces with ladybugs hung from her neck and dipped between her perfectly rounded breasts. “Thank you, Ladybug. Here’s your cut.” She passed Ladybug some cash, while Chat Noir walked up behind them. “I see you brought your Cat, again. How’s Plagg anyways?”
“He’s not doing bad. I don’t know why you two split up. I miss seeing you two together.” Chat put his hands in his pocket and Ladybug turned to cringe at him.
“Knock it off.” Ladybug mouthed at him with widened eyes.
“Yeah, well. When he decides to apologize for what he did? Then we’ll talk. As for now… you guys just have to work separate. But I see that that’s going to be difficult.” Tikki crossed her arms and walked away. “I’ll call you when I get another hit.”
“Thank you, Tikki.” Ladybug smiled and turned to push Chat Noir out of the dealership. “You better have a good reason for bringing that shit up to her.” Her voice came out in a forced whisper as he walked to his car.
“Look, Plagg is a wreck. He misses her. He doesn’t eat or sleep. He hangs at bars and strip joints. He’s not doing well without her. Even this car he has me after is a distraction. It’s on the other side of town.” Chat pointed with his thumb in the direction of the Porsche. “He’s lost his mind. It’s gonna be hard to outrun the cops, if they get informed.”
Ladybug sighed and climbed into his car. They drove in silence for a while, until they got back to her car. “Look, I want them back together as much as you do…” She touched his cheek with her palm and looked at him with a warm smile. “But until that happens? You have to deal with us being separated on jobs. You can’t protect me all the time and I can’t protect you all the time.” She leaned forward and kissed him on the lips. She parted her lips when he did and brushed her tongue along his. He wrapped his hand around the small of her back and pulled her closer. She braced her hand against the center console and softly moaned against his kiss as he deepened it, nibbling and tugging on her bottom lip. Ladybug pulled away from him and licked her lips. “Okay, now go steal me a Porsche, baby.” She hit him on the thigh.
“I’m gonna make your heart rev.” Chat smirked at her with a smoldering expression, hit the gas, and made his car growl to life.
“Yeah, okay kitty cat.” She giggled at him, before she climbed out of his car and got into her own.

The Complete Guide To Skid Steer Attachments
Skid steer attachments have proven to be the most adaptable piece of equipment in the construction and agricultural industries. Skid steers are a class of equipment known for their ability to turn. The machine will slide because one side of its tracks will turn faster than the other since they lack separate front wheels that can steer the driven rear wheels. Tell us more about skid steer attachments right now.
The tool mounted to the hydraulic arm of a skid steer loader is called a skid steer attachment. The multi-terrain loader, compact track loader, and compact wheel loader are just a few of the loader models that Caterpillar manufactures to go along with its skid steer loaders.
Types of skid steer attachment:
1. Bucket: Skid steer buckets and skid steer snow buckets are a diverse group of attachments with a variety of shapes and sizes for various uses. To level up your dirt dump, use a general-purpose bucket with a flat leading edge. Additionally, you may attach a set of bucket teeth to transform your skid steer into a little digging tool.
Tumblr media
3. Augers: Auger attachments for skid steers are construction tools designed to drill deeply into the ground. The blades of skid steer post hole augers are linked to a long, sturdy steel shaft and spiral downward in a helix pattern. All small construction machinery, such as skid steer loaders, compact track loaders, all-terrain loaders, wheel loaders, and micro excavators, is compatible with auger work tools.
4. Hammers: You can easily develop land and demolish buildings with cat hammers as skid steer loader work equipment. Rock, concrete, brick, and other stiff materials can be broken through with hammer attachments, which are hydraulically powered equipment.
You can contact Iron Craft to find out more information or purchase these little skid steer attachments. We have a full selection of tractor attachments, such as disc harrows, skid steer attachments, grader blades, box blade scrapers, landscape rakes, and rotary cutters and tillers.

The eight best mini excavator attachments and their uses
MAX OUT YOUR MINI WITH CAT ATTACHMENTS
Whether you work in plumbing, landscaping, residential or commercial building, agriculture or any range of other outdoor industries, chances are a Cat Mini Excavator could be one of your most valuable work tools.
Coupled with the right attachments, your Mini Excavator becomes even more useful. And for fast changes as you or your operators move from one task to the next, a Quick Coupler could help to maximise your investment, allowing rapid swapping from one attachment to another as the job dictates.
Many of these attachments are suitable for applications across other equipment you may have in your fleet, such as Skid Steer Loaders, Multi Terrain Loaders, Compact Track Loaders, Backhoe Loaders – and of course your Mini Excavator.
WesTrac has compiled details on some of the most popular and useful attachments to help you make the most of your Cat equipment.
WHAT ARE THE TOP MINI EXCAVATOR ATTACHMENTS?
1. HYDRAULIC THUMB
Cat Utility Thumbs increase machine productivity as they enable the machine operator to use the bucket and thumb like a hand. When not in use, the thumb folds back and can be easily and quickly activated. A shut-off valve enables the use of other hydro mechanical work tools while keeping the thumb retracted.
The Cat hydraulic pin-on thumb can maintain its relationship with the rotation of the bucket and is engineered to match the bucket tip radius, width and spacing of the teeth to enable it to mesh perfectly.
Cat Hydraulic Thumbs come in a two tine configuration and meshes with Cat mini excavator buckets 457mm & larger. All provide wide compatibility with machines, buckets and couplers.
Whether completing site clean-up, moving pipes, blocks, rocks or bricks into place, carting logs or any number of other tasks, Cat Utility Thumbs are versatile and highly practical for use in plumbing, landscaping, general construction, farming and a host of everyday Mini Excavator tasks.
2. AUGER
CatÂŽ Augers are the perfect work tool for drilling holes for footings, fencing, signs, trees and shrubs in construction, agricultural and landscaping applications. They deliver the torque required for maximum productivity in a broad range of soil types. Quicker and safer than manual digging or using hand-held augers, the Cat Auger drives are designed with Cat machine weight, power, system pressure and flow rates matched to provide the best performance. The standard 2-inch hexagon shaft across all the drives uses six sides to drive the auger into the ground, providing more torque than a round shaft and improved wear life in tougher digging conditions. All Cat Auger drives have a two-year parts and labour warranty.*
3. TILT ROTATE COUPLER
We’ve already mentioned the benefits of Quick Couplers, but there’s no attachment that’s more versatile for a Mini Excavator than the Cat Tilt Rotate Coupler.
These are work tools designed to significantly reduce the time and need to constantly reposition the machine. The Tilt Rotate Coupler provides revolutionary 360 degrees of continuous rotation and 40 degrees of tilt. The The S-Type Tilt Rotate Coupler models can be fitted with the optional familiar red grapple while the Cat Pin-Grabber style Tilt Rotate Couplers will pick up all of the standard cat buckets & attachments without having to change pickups. Offering exceptional productivity, the Tilt Rotate coupler functionality is integrated into the Cat Next Gen Mini Excavator Advanced Display (no secondary screen required) to select and control the functions and features of the Cat TRS (Tilt Rotate System) while the optional RPS (Tilt Rotator Positioning Solution) for TRS6 and TRS8 provides high precision, exact positioning in real time from the coupler if you want to connect 2D or 3D systems.
4. STATIC WHEEL COMPACTOR
For plumbers, landscapers, earthworks contractors and anyone needing to backfill trenches or compact cohesive and clay soils, CatŽ Compaction Wheels for Mini Excavators are a low-cost attachment option. They use the weight of the machine and applied downward force to compact soil, with 6-10 passes typically adequate to achieve compaction in normal soil conditions, dependent on the required compaction levels. Cat Compaction Wheels are a great choice for soils where vibration compactors may not achieve good compaction. The open rim design allows the wheel to penetrate through the fill and compact the soil from the bottom up.
5. HYDRUALIC VIBRATORY PLATE COMPACTOR
Cat® Vibratory Plate Compactors are designed to be used for general construction duties, from compacting soil, sand and gravel in preparation for pouring concrete or laying asphalt, to slope compaction and other site preparation activities. Their low cost makes them a popular choice among pavers, general contractors and utility contractors in residential, commercial or industrial applications. The integrated pressure flow control – included in every Cat compaction plate as standard – protects the tool from rapid increase to pressure flow and enhances reliability. No case drain is required on the machine. It includes enhanced hose routing to minimise damage to the attachment’s hoses and bearings are designed to be lubricated in a continual oil bath.
OPERATING TIP: Use the compactor in 10-second bursts. The CatŽ Vibratory Plate Compactor is not like a hammer and does not require much downward force to work effectively. The movement of the plate up and down provides sufficient compaction so the plate only needs to make contact with the ground. In fact, if excessive downward force is applied, the motor can experience higher than normal reaction forces as the plate does not have adequate room to move up and down. Comes with a two-year parts and labour warranty*.
6. GRAPPLE
Cat® Contractors’ Grapples for 7-9 ton Mini Excavators easily handle small and large material and debris. The two over three tine configuration gives these grapples a large enough surface area for material handling and demolition work. Interlocking tines grasp and hold more material securely when sorting or loading into a truck or at ground level. A slightly curved lower jaw profile is designed to optimise penetration and facilitate ease and speed when unloading the grapple. Long tine design and wide spacing increases visibility of the material while connectivity of the stiff arm to the machine is simplified using the existing thumb bracket on the Cat Mini Excavator stick.
7. HAMMER
CatŽ Hammers are high performance breakers, designed for maximum performance on demolition, construction and road work. Whether you are breaking concrete slabs or driveways, pavements, roads, masonry or brickwork, breaking ground for utility repairs or just carrying out general site prep and landscaping, they are touch tough &, versatile work tools. The Cat B Series Silenced Hammers use a simple design that ensures reliability, versatility, ease of use and maintenance. As a package solution, the matching Caterpillar designed hydraulic kits are also supplied and the best fit for CatŽ machines - providing customers a hammer package with superior design and benefits. All hammers come with a two-year parts and labour warranty*.
8. MULCHER
With heavy rains and bushfires a common issue in Australia, clearing land around properties is a priority.
he Cat HM210 Mulcher is designed for high-performance cutting and mulching of vegetation and undergrowth. These hydraulic mulchers reduce saplings, shrubs and trees into mulched material, making them ideal for environmental maintenance, such as creating firebreaks or removal of invasive plants. The first pass removes plant materials while a second pass, with the door closed mulches the material down from a maximum thickness of around 300mm to 50mm, enabling faster decomposition and providing a layer of protection to the ground to prevent drying out and erosion.
Pairing the mulcher with the Cat 309 Next Gen Mini Excavator, which has an attachment dedicated high-flow pump, enables stick/boom and travel movement without compromising flow to the mulcher. The most powerful and efficient combination is achieved using the stick steer travel, cruise control and continuous flow on the Cat 309 with the Cat HM210 Mulcher – it is a favourite of councils and landscaping contractors, often running rings around larger machines.
RUNNER UP - RIPPER
While it didn't make the top eight cut, there is one more work tool that’s well worth adding to your Mini Excavator toolkit and that's a Cat Ripper. These versatile tools are ideal for landscaping, land clearing, demolition, picking apart debris or lifting slabs and site preparation in hard soils or rock. Rippers can be used with a pin grabber coupler, paired in a coupler and thumb combination, or as a pin-on individual attachment.

Thanks for the Ride - Part 1
This is my first attempt at writing any sort of fiction anything in 2 years, so please be gentle! Thank you to @gingerly-writing for the prompt. If you read this, I hope you like it <3
TW: guns, angst, threatening villain, asthma attack
The civilian froze, sweaty hands plastered to the steering wheel. “Uh, but aren’t you…dead?”
The bloody but very much alive supervillain bared their teeth. “Yes,” they agreed, and pressed their gun to the civilian’s head, “I am. So drive.”
Civilian’s stomach bottomed out at the cold press of metal against her temple. A small panicked sound escaped her. “Where?”
The villain’s free hand shot out, grabbing her arm and squeezing. “Just drive.”
The car took off in a spattering of pebbles and dust clouds. Civilian labored to keep her breathing steady as it came in shallow gasps.
She tried to focus on the little details that would keep her grounded. Just keep driving... Stop sign. Wait, does he want me to run the stop sign? Focus. Think smaller. The little flower bobble head on my dash… The pink seat covers- wow, the villain’s blood is all over my new seat covers. *Wait, The villain is really in my car.*
Civilian’s lungs felt like they’d been crushed in like a soda can; collapsed and tapered off and--
Her breathing shifted into strained wheezing. She felt around the center console without taking her eyes off of the road.
She felt the villain’s gaze searing into her as he lifted her chin, gently even, with the barrel of the gun. When he spoke, his voice was low. Honeyed. Dangerous. “What, pray tell, are you doing?”
Civilian jolted at the touch, hand freezing in place lest she provoke him further. “In-Inhaler,” she choked out. “I-I, um… asthma.”
A beat of silence followed.
It was getting harder to breathe, and gods she was going to get herself shot, and after she died, nobody would be there to feed her cat, and--
She glanced over to find the villain rummaging around one handed before pressing her blessed inhaler into one of her palms. The brush of his fingers sent a shock of warmth through her. Were villains allowed to have that effect on her?
She yelped as she jerked the car to the right, narrowly avoiding hitting the median. She glanced over at the villain again, who’s scrutiny still hadn’t left her, his eyes narrowed. “Sorry, sorry!” she gasped out.
She brought her inhaler to her lips with a trembling hand, inhaling two puffs of medication. Her breath still came ragged and wheezing. It would be a little while longer for her symptoms to dissipate.
“Turn here.” The villain’s voice cut through the brief silence.
“This...This isn’t a road.”
“Turn.”
Civilian slammed on the brakes and yanked the steering wheel. The car screeched, but made the turn. They skidded down a dirt path, hardly wide enough for her car to fit at all. The thick treeline blotted out the moonlight, leaving their path dark and foreboding.
They drove in silence for a few minutes, unease crawling beneath civilian’s skin and sloshing her insides cold.
She swallowed hard. “Are...Are you going to let me go?” Her breathing was closer to normal now, enough to form sentences, though it still sounded harsh and broken to her ears. “I promise, I promise I won’t tell anyone about this--I have no reason to tell, I won’t tell, I swear I won’t.”
Villain leaned closer, threading a gentle hand through her hair. His sharp smile reflected the glow of the headlights, voice some mockery of pity. “Dear, that’s what they all say before they run to the police like headless chickens.” She tensed as he draped an arm casually over her shoulders. Can you believe the blatant dishonesty in this city, Civilian?”
Civilian adamantly shook her head. “No. I swear I won’t,” she squeaked. “The-The world thinks you’re dead; I’m happy to let you stay that way. B...Better your funeral than mine.”
That startled a laugh out of the villain and he pulled the gun away from her skin, though he still held it deliberately in one hand with a finger resting on the trigger. “I do like you, Civilian. Stop the car.”
Her eyes widened, stomach leaping into her throat. “What?”
His free hand fell to the back of her neck and squeezed, threatening. “I said stop the car.”
Oh gods… this is it. She was going to end up in a ditch in the middle of nowhere where she’d never be found. Her hands felt numb and foreign as she eased the car to a stop.
“Please, please don’t hurt me, I’ll-I’ll do whatever you want!” she gasped out with a trembling voice. “I have children! Well....j-just a cat, but she needs me--”
Villain laughed again and Civilian inhaled sharply as he wound his fingers into the hair at the nape of her neck, tugging slightly so that her throat was bared to him. He smiled, looking amused. “Who am I to leave your kitty an orphan? Get out of the car.”
She swallowed hard. Stared into his eyes even though it felt like freefall. “Please,” she whispered.
He released his grip on her. “Do you intend to make me ask twice, dear?” he asked, voice dangerously light that time. His finger stroked the gun’s trigger.
Civilian scrambled to unbuckle her seatbelt, opening the door and staggering out into the awaiting darkness.
Villain followed, waving the gun at her. “On your knees.”
“But--”
“Knees.” Any amusement had drained from his face, expression edging on annoyance.
She dropped to her knees, raising her trembling hands above her head and squeezing her eyes shut. Dampness seeped through her jeans where she knelt on the ground, cold and sticky and caked with mud.
She listened to the approaching thud of his boots, leisure steps crowding close, though she couldn’t bear to crack her eyes open. She flinched as his fingers carded through her hair for a second time. “Thanks for the ride, dear.”
Civilian kept her eyes clenched shut even as his footsteps retreated and her car engine started. Only after she could no longer hear the vehicle long in the distance did she dare to open her eyes and breathe a trembling sigh of relief.
Thank you for reading! I barely edited anything because I was scared if I fully read and critiqued it, I’d hate it lol I’m proud of myself for getting something down. My mental illnesses has really stolen writing from me the past few years and I’m hopeful that I can take it back little by little.
Part 2
Prompt #2776
The civilian froze, sweaty hands plastered to the steering wheel. “Uh, but aren’t you…dead?”
The bloody but very much alive supervillain bared their teeth. “Yes,” they agreed, and pressed their gun to the civilian’s head, “I am. So drive.”
