LMAO I hedged before ultimately voting yes because it's not the worst but it's definitely not the best.

Are warioware's main girl characters fucking amazing? Yes. I will kill anyone who says otherwise. HOWEVER. There are a few things holding me back from giving it my full women endorsement

1. there are no women that aren't polished anime girls. The oldest woman here is 5-volt who is a mom and always looks the same as everyone else. Now granted i think that 5-volt is a great cartoon character who exists beyond her role of Mom but her facial structure is completely beholden to whatever art style they feel like doing today. This isn't only a comment about character design either, 5-volt (the mom) is the only one here who has graduated high school. The spectrum of male character ages ranges from 9 to over 100, the spectrum of female characters ranges from 5 to like 16 UNLESS you have a 9-year-old of your own, then MAYBE you're allowed to breach 20 but you better not look like it.

2. I don't like the way it treats the kids sometimes. Wario should not be dreaming about mona being cute (thankfully something they've moved away from since then), and the g&w souvenir where you talk to an aged-up kat and ana with lovey music simply should not exist. Also, I love ashley as a character but the way they treat her skeeves me out sometimes. Why are you allowed to pet her head in game and wario. I think there are too many moments where she feels less like an angsty goth kid and more like a mascot animal to make grown men who play smash brothers go Awwww

That being said. Although they are not Physically wacky all of the girls here (of which there are many) are allowed to act as fucked-up as they want. Mona, the popular girl at school who is arguably the "Main Girl" representing the series, is leading the charge on fucked-up behaviour. Everyone else is equally charming and meshes super well with the rest of the cast and their bullshit, with their own unique voices and motives and, importantly, their own bullshit. If I didn't think they were good characters I wouldn't be drawing fanfiction about them every day. But I won't pretend this is the paragon of Feminism when Portal exists. Solid 6/10 for me

It’s the way so many people dismiss HSMTMTS because is from Disney Plus and they associate it to being a kids show and not as deep as the other teen shows out there and it couldn’t be more untrue. The characters are better written and have a more reliable personality than most of the teen shows making the rounds right now that people believe is actual television. Not just the ships are better and are delivering more representation and buzz than Netflix or Amazon combined but the actors from this show are so insanely talented and know how to handle both emotional and comedic beats flawlessly. And the performances are clearing a lot of people from those shows. Put respect on their name.

I will never make this because it would be for an audience of one (me) but ever since reading "If we Were Villains" (story about serious drama kids in college who perform shakespeare and deal with a murder) I have been entertaining the thought of a crack fic crossover with High School Musical The Musical The Series where the staff decides they will no longer put on shakespeare after the tragic accident that happened at Thanksgiving, because Shakespeare plays would only increase the tension and drama. So they hire Ms. Jen who decides their spring play will actually be High School Musical (which exists in the 90s in this universe) and it ruins the vibe so much that everyone gives up on being dark and mysterious because they're universally pissed at Ms Jen for making them learn choreoraphed basketball dancing.

the thing about the queer media tournament that really gets me is that last i checked there wasn't a single mxtx work on it. like not even the untamed made it in and don't get me wrong the og mo dao zu shi books are huge but cql is def more popular among tumblr circles. idk it just really rubs me the wrong way how every single piece of western media that ppl have ever gotten a lil bit aggressive abt shipping with is there and then for east asian media there's utena and madoka magica and the handmaiden and last i checked that was pretty much it. and then for the rest of the world there's next to/nothing but idk enough to really make judgements there.

catherine of aragon: kourtney greene

just listen to no way and tell me that you can't imagine dara singing it, you can't. hell, i can even picture her performing it on stage. she has both the power and sass needed to be aragon

anne boleyn: dani

don't lose your head is both bouncy and vocally challenging, something i feel like kylie could be good at. she could probably EASILY pull off the runs at the end. it's also funny to me because she put on a british accent as tiara and there's the "don't be bitter" part. i also think that kylie could portray the comedic, banter-y vibe

jane seymour: ashlyn caswell

julia's voice is very powerful and strong, but also light, which is how i would describe jane's. the ad-libs in the final chorus of heart of stone would probably come so easy to her, i can just feel it

anna of cleves: gina porter

get down is made for someone with a deeper singing voice, which sofia has. i think she can portray the sass well. i also think she would sing it pretty close to the way genesis sang it on the original recording, strong and full but not very high-note-y (which is NOT a word but you get the point)

katherine howard: nini salazar-roberts

olivia's lower register would sound really nice on the verses of all you wanna do. and i feel like she would be able to nail the parts where howard breaks down as it's not much different from the vibe of her music (or at least what i've heard of it). and she could most likely hit the notes in the final chorus

catherine parr: emmy

liamani could easily pull off the vocals of i don't need your love, i know she could. like julia, she has a powerful but light voice, which works for parr's parts (hehe parrts)

I was watching The Greatest Showman yesterday and all I could think about was how Tim said he wanted to do this musical and I couldn’t stop imagining the HSMTMTS characters playing the characters in The Greatest Showman !! We could’ve gotten Rina Rewrite the Stars. We could’ve gotten a Jet and Ricky duet with The Other Side. We could’ve gotten Kourtney singing Tightrope.
