It is my privilege to attend.” He neither looked nor sounded as though he meant it; I saw the line of his jaw harden as he closed his mouth on the words. It was a beautiful mouth. Indeed, there was very little about Joscelin Verreuil that was not beautiful. He had the old-fashioned, noble features of a provincial lord and the somber, ash-grey garb of a Cassiline Brother adorned a tall, well-proportioned form, like the statues of the old Hellene athletes. His eyes were a clear blue, the color of a summer sky, and his hair, caught back in a club at the nape of his neck, was the color of a wheat field at harvest time. I have been looking forward to doing concepts for Joscelin since I started this book! His descriptions have been very helpful for designing his equipment as he's more attentive to such things than Phedre was in "Kushiel's Dart", which makes sense.

My exploration of "Cassiel's Servant" continues with concept sketches for Joscelin. He'll no doubt be making an appearance in the fan cover I'm planning to create for this novel, so it was time to sort out his look!

I'm still torn on the design I came up with for Joscelin's sword blade and whether I should keep it simple or leave it as-is. Tell me your thoughts in the comments, book fans!

Hello! This is a sharing question! "What's your favourite quote that says something about love?" After answering go share and ask other people!

Oh, gosh... I have answered this question before, but I think I can choose a different quote this time.

This quote is beloved by me, and said by a character named Melisande Shahrizai in the book "Kushiel's Dart" by Jacqueline Carey. The book may be a bit of a rough read, but it's filled with sensuality, political intrigue, espionage, and conspiracy. Highly recommend it. Anyway... To the quote!

"Oh, love and hate are two sides of the same blade," she said cheerily enough, motioning for a servant to take my cloak, "and an edge finer honed than yon Cassiline's dagger divides them."

It is to say that the true opposite of love or hate is apathy. Hatred and love are both driven by a type of passion, and that edge can flip either way with ease.

Okay. This is why I love Tumblr. Because I can escape to it in all hell crap and gush into the void.

I'm reading Kushiel's Chosen and miss the pinprick of the salt air of the sea on my tongue, the one that comes with my family.

And I'm obsessed by the differences in the covers

So this is the one I have, the US cover. Phedre's marque on full display, red gloves and gown, turning her face away from Casilline garb, head veiled and a rose cast aside.

Now this, is the French cover. Dressed in stockings and a red negligee, holding a fan carelessly, unearthly beauty turned towards us against a backdrop of the city.

And this, the Japanese cover. Imprisoned, in grey, the flash of a seagull flying past, looking out with a wry abeyance.

I like the name Cacielle, pronounced like the angel's name, Cassiel, but Spelled as a french name and with C instead of S. That way, our ciel has the right to use Ciel as his own name.

That’s an interesting idea, though I guess it would be Caçiel for a boy and Caçielle for a girl, right?

Also, Cassiel is still spelled that way in Kushiel’s Legacy, and the D’Angelines are essentially French people who had mixed (ages ago) with Elua and the (fallen) angels who follow him. Cassiel is one of them, but he is too devoted to Elua to mix with the humans. So, none of the D’Angelines are blood descendants of Cassiel. Instead, some boys are sent to special training to follow his path of chastity/abstinence and defense services; they are called the Cassiline Brotherhood. Warrior priests, basically.

Why not submit your idea to @ociel-namesuggestions ? It accepts terrible name suggestions and “legit” suggestions. This could easily be submitted as “legit”....
