Mike Laidlaw: "Look, I'm not a fancy CEO guy, but if someone said to me "the key to this successful single-player IP's success is to make it purely a multiplayer game. No, not a spin off: fundamentally change the DNA of what people loved about the core game" to me, I'd probably, like, quit that job or something. Just thinking out loud, of course. Who'd be silly enough to demand something like that? ...twice." [source thread]

Teia: Soooo… how were your 'other plans' last night? Rook: Lucanis made himself coffee. Teia: … Teia: Blood of the Maker. Teia: Did he at least make some for you? Rook: There was enough left over for a second cup. Viago: I could poison him for you. No charge. Teia: Vi, no. Viago: He'll recover. Viago: Probably.

Anyway @ all Dragon Age fans, you should go buy Eternal Strands and support Mike Laidlaw's indie project. They made it and produced it themselves, and it's got sticky Dragon Age fingerprints all over it. I've only played a little bit of it, but it's got me smiling at the stuff that feels Dragon Age-y to me; the opening straight up felt like DAO without the scum factor provided by my beloved problematic fave Duncan, and there's been a lot of, shall we say, references and creative calling cards that make it very clear that Mike Laidlaw worked on the first three Dragon Age games.

Something like this would be so colossally helpful. I'm sick and tired of trying to research specific clothing from any given culture and being met with either racist stereotypical costumes worn by yt people or ai generated garbage nonsense, and trying to be hyper specific with searches yields fuck all. Like I generally just cannot trust the legitimacy of most search results at this point. It's extremely frustrating. If there are good resources for this then they're buried deep under all the other bullshit, and idk where to start looking.

Fun Story to Share.
I got my (now 18-year-old) daughter into Ao3 back in 2021. I taught her she should always comment - even if the fic looks old or abandoned or whatever. She did.
Well - she got this email this morning:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6c3741df1b7f67876e40f03a6a163849/25bc02637c9dfdac-da/s540x810/91e554dc382b10604bf45da12ad6809d8f9cc87e.jpg)
The fic was written in 2014 and essentially abandoned.
Bethy read and reviewed in 2021 (and was actually the only person who had commented at all).
Today in 2025 - the final chapter was posted by the author and this was her reply to Bethy’s comment.
———
Never question whether a fic is too old to comment on.

RIP Rook 🤣
Headcanon nonsense:
Seeing as Rook’s trouble with bells on, and Lucanis has a pretty great sense of humor himself - These two make a longstanding game out of teasing the absolute shit out of one another. The more ridiculous the reaction, the better. So, goofy shit like this happens frequently. (You won this round, Dellamorte .)
[I told myself I was going to take a break from drawing today, yet here we are. Happy Birthday, I guess? 😆]

CUUUUUUUTE!
It’s late when Lucanis arrives back at the Lighthouse after attending to Crow business in Treviso. Not that you can actually tell in the Fade, as the sky is always the same shade of shifting brightness. But he can feel the hour in his bones and in the droop of his eyes. He makes his way up from the Eluvian room, soft steps barely resonating against the stone as he makes his way up the stairs towards Adelaide’s quarters.
Most nights now, they both end up there, as her chaise lounge is obviously more comfortable than the makeshift bed he calls his own in the pantry. However, when he opens her door after knocking gently, it’s to find an empty room.
He scans the space quickly, searching for a note she may have left behind for him, as she’s gotten in the habit of doing, but he finds nothing. He doubles back down the hallway to look over the balcony to make sure he didn’t somehow miss her asleep out on one of the couches in his tiredness, but no, she’s not there, either.
“Where. Is Rook?” Spite asks, looking around a bit wildly. He frequently makes his annoyance at Rook’s absence known and was not particularly thrilled after sitting through several hours of Crow politicking without her (not that Lucanis could blame him; Teia was right, Viago was somehow less cranky with Adelaide around. Marginally.).
“Good question,” Lucanis replies as he makes his way towards the door of the Lighthouse. He winces briefly at the brightness as he steps outside, making his way across the courtyard. He assumes nothing is actually wrong; someone would have come through the Eluvian to get him if that were the case. And if Adelaide were suddenly needed elsewhere at this late hour and hadn’t left a note in her room, maybe she’d left one in his.
When he opens the door to the pantry, however, he finds not a note, but Rook herself, curled on her side in his bed, facing the door as she clutches his pillow. After a moment, he realizes she’s dead asleep, and she must be out cold, because Crows are exceptionally light sleepers by training, but she doesn’t so much as twitch as he quietly crosses the room. He sits on the edge of the bed, and it’s only when he quietly murmurs her name that her eyes flutter open, body immediately coiling with tension before her eyes land on him and she relaxes back into the pillow.
“Hey,” she says, voice thick with sleep.
“Hey,” he replies, reaching to brush a lock of hair from her face, knowing her soft smile reflects his own back at him. “What are you doing in here?”
“Couldn’t sleep,” she replies as she catches his hand with her own, twining their fingers together. “I just couldn’t stop thinking about… everything, and just laying in my room wasn’t getting me anywhere, so I figured I’d get up and walk around, and then I just ended up here and -“ she breaks off suddenly and Lucanis is amused to see that she actually looks a bit sheepish, a rare sight given her normally brash personality.
“And?” he prompts gently, giving her hand a soft squeeze. Her cheeks flush a little, but she continues.
“It smells like you in here, and that was kinda nice, so I just sat down for a minute, and… here we are,” she finishes with a shrug, cheeks flushing just a bit at her admission.
Something inside Lucanis’ chest swells and he leans down to gently press a kiss to her forehead.
“Here we are” he repeats, giving her hand another gentle squeeze, and she smiles back at him, cheeks still tinged with a bit of pink. He lifts her hand to his lips, a soft brush of a kiss pressed to her knuckles, before he stands and begins to quietly divest himself of his leathers and multitude of weapons. When he’s done, he turns back to the bed and Adelaide shifts to make room for him without a word, head nestling under his chin as he pulls her into his arms. His bed is certainly smaller and much less plush than the sofa in her own room, but right in this moment, Lucanis simply can’t bring himself to care. It’s not long at all before he feels her breath slowing under his hand as she falls back asleep and he’s well on his way to following her when he hears Spite, much quieter than usual.
“Smells like. Honey. And home.”
Lucanis murmurs his agreement and then he, too, is fast asleep.
