Cassia did her best to ignore the fact that the two of them nearly kissed a week back and that she had revealed her feelings to him. Not only was it not fair to Matt, but they weren't in college anymore. They both moved on and she now happily dating someone who actually wasn't afraid to be with her. Now that he was back in her life and someone that Matt worked with, the least she could do was try to maintain a friendship with him. After all, they were two people who knew what it was like growing up in a small town like Rye and now living in such a big city. Furrowing her brows when he talked about how it was a casual thing with the girl he was seeing and how often he repeated that it was casual despite seeing her for months now, Cassia felt some ways about it. A part of her felt relieved? Which she really shouldn't and then a part of her felt insulted for the other woman. How do you just continue to casually see someone and insist it was casual even though you have been seeing her for months? Wasn't there any feelings developing? Was this how he acted when they were 'casually' fucking in college? Was what he said at the party even real? Cassia had so many questions, but she knew that she couldn't voice it. Why would it matter when she was already with someone else and happy in a relationship. "I see..." she trailed off before forcing a smile and nodding her head. "I mean you seem happy so I guess that's all that matter's right? Is she a nice person?" Cassia wondered, sipping on her coffee. Pausing half way when she was about to grab a piece of bread when Joe admitted he was glad he hadn't move, she couldn't help but feel her heart skip a beat. Was he glad because of her? Because he saw her again? Grabbing her bread, Cassia gave him a sincere smile. "I'm glad that you decided to stay. It would be nice having a friend from Rye in London. It can be such an overwhelming place. I'm here if you ever need a friend to hangout with." When he thanked her, Cassia paused for a moment before smiling and nodding her head. As much as he hurt her with his actions in the past, whenever he was genuine and like this, Cassia felt like she couldn't hate on him forever. "I'm glad you're here and you agreed. I know things were weird between us, but I am glad you're here. It's... nice having someone familiar here in London." Cassia decided to ignore the fact that he said he missed her. Going down that rabbit hole was going to be a lot for her. "Have you been back home yet?"
maryjanewatsonparkers:
Sipping on her coffee, Cassia nodded her head as he talked about enjoying how he didn’t mind his work. For Cassia, she never thought he would work for some company as a graphic designer. To be honest, Cassia was expecting him to be some kind of a freelance artist. Joe being stuck in some corporate job was not what she imagined for him if she were being honest with herself. “It’s kind of crazy that you found yourself working with Matt of all people. My Matt. What are the odds?” she couldn’t help but ask before chuckling and shaking her head. It was as if someone was fucking with her or something because she left him for a reason. Being around him was so painful. She was so damn in love with him and he wasn’t interested in her, so it was painful knowing she was never going to be anything more than some fuck buddy to him. When he asked someone else as his date, it absolutely broke her heart and Cassia wasn’t thinking straight. It was why she left, she needed to be away from him and now here he was in front of her working with her fiancee of all people. With how big London was, it was ironic he was here in front of her. Smiling as he continued to gush about how smart he was, Cassia shyly tucked some hair behind her ear and chewed on her bottom lip. “Thanks. It was a long and hard road. I’m pretty sure I broke down at least ten times a day during my law school years,” Cassia joked and cleared her throat. Her eyes widened when he informed her that she had asked already, her cheeks blushing even more. She completely forgot and now she looked like someone who was more than interested in his personal life. She felt like she looked like she was someone who still wasn’t over him. “Sorry, I forgot,” she mumbled. The shock of seeing him again caused her to block everything else out, it seemed. “How long have you been seeing her?” she asked. He then asked the inevitable and Cassia sighed. The last thing she wanted to talk about was Matt. It felt weird. It felt weird talking to someone she used to have sex with about her fiancee, but they were trying to be friends right? That was why she called him in the first place and asked him to meet her. “We… met a few years back. We, um, had mutual friends,” Cassia explained. “My friend was dating his best friend and it was at their housewarming party that we met. We’ve been together since. Where in London do you live? How long have you been here?”
There was a kick in his stomach when he heard Cassia call Matt, her Matt. It made sense, obviously, that she would say something like that, but that didn’t make it sting any less. She had someone else just as she was someone else’s. So Joe really had no reason to feel the way that he was feeling right now. Even though he really really did feel it a lot. He glanced away briefly, pressing his lips into a tight thin line as he nodded his head. “Yeah… What are the chances…” He said, asking himself why the universe seemed to hate him for doing that. Scratching his jaw and clearing his throat, he brought his gaze back to Cassia, which made him have to catch his breath for a second. A part of him still couldn’t believe that she was there. He didn’t think he’d ever see her again. When she apologized for asking him about his love life again, Joe shook his head. A lot had happened that night, so he understood if it was something she forgot. Maybe, just like him, all she could think about was the almost kiss they shared. It certainly was all he could think about since it happened. “It’s okay. Overwhelming night, for sure. Uh, but yeah. It’s nothing serious, but it’s been a thing for a few months. Went out for some drinks one night and I met her there. We exchanged numbers and… Well, it’s been a casual thing since.” Joe wasn’t sure why he kept bringing up that it wasn’t anything serious as if that mattered. Nothing was going to happen. Even if Cassia wasn’t with someone currently in a very serious relationship, she was the one who left. She was the one who cut him out of her life. For the longest time, Joe was so sure she wanted nothing to do with him. So why would he be delusional enough to think she wanted him now? Even after what she had said back at her place. “I moved over by Wembley Park about a year ago now. Almost didn’t, if I’m honest. A part of me wanted to move somewhere quite. Even farther away from home than here. There was even a moment I considered moving to the States, but… I don’t know. I’m beginning to be glad that I ended up coming here.” Joe held Cassia’s gaze. It was only for a few seconds, but in those few seconds, it felt much much longer. “Um, I wanted to thank you for asking me to some coffee. I really meant it when I said I’d like us to be friends. I really did miss you.”

Snowflake Book Review’s
Title: Dublin Falls' Archangel's Warriors MC #19 Blade's Boo
Author: Ciara St. James
Pages: 329
Snowflake Rating:❄❄❄❄(4/5)
Synopsis: Blade never imagines tasting treats presented to him by a customer will lead to him meeting an angel. An angel he can’t forget, nor is able to get to talk to him. She’s shy and runs in the opposite direction every time he makes an overture. He doesn’t know what he can do to make this baking goddess see he’s interested and not a bad guy. Thanks to her boss, he finds a way, and that’s just the opening he needs and runs with. Soon, he’s spending time with her, but she’s hiding things and he wants to know what. To him, it’s obvious she’s been hurt and doesn’t trust people. He knows he can help her see that not all people, all men, are alike. Imagine his shock when her secrets are revealed, and he realizes she has a connection closer to home than any of them imagines. She has lived a life few ever have, except one they know. He’ll do everything in his power to protect her and make her see she can experience love and be happy. He’ll protect her from her past as well as the creepy guy paying her way too much attention. Cassia came to town three years ago to start over and to hide. She loves to bake and her boss took a chance on her. Her love of baking is what brings her to the notice of a sexy biker. The last guy who would be serious about a woman, let alone one like her. She can’t let him in, even if she wants to. Little by little, her resistance wears down and Blade inches then explodes into her life. In no time, she’s being protected by him and his club and falling under his spell. She even lets him protect her. Only there are things that, no matter how far in your past they are, they can always come back to haunt and hurt you. When that happens, it’s up to unexpected help, his MC, and their friends to make sure that Blade’s Boo and his future are secure and happy.

The Cooking Gene is so good! I gave my copy to a friend before I moved and I sort of regret it, ngl.
Here are my recs!
Jacquard's Web by James Essinger
The Golden Thread by Cassia St. Clair
The Laws of Medicine - Siddhartha Mukherjee
The Man With the Electrified Brain - Simon Winchester
The Disaster Diaries - Sam Sheridan (don't get put off by the subject matter it's actually very optimistic)
A Paradise Built in Hell - Rebecca Solnit
Dawn Light - Diane Ackerman (actually all her books are great)
True Grizz - Douglas A Chadwick
Good Apples - Susan Futrell
****Personal Effects - Robert A Jensen**** I'm highlighting this one because I loved it, but its definitely gorier than the others so maybe approach with caution.
Ok tumblr friends. I’m trying to spend less time on the internet these days, and I LOVE reading non-fiction books, but trying to find recommendations for new books is a nightmare. Any time I try to look up good new non-fiction books the results are all like “would you like to read an autobiography of Paul Newman or New Reasons We’re All Doomed” and that just. Doesn’t Work for Me. So I’m asking for recs here. I’m open to books about literally any field or topic. Only caveats are that hard sciences have to be on a level I can understand as a humanities person, and medical stuff can’t be too gory (ie I loved Siddhartha Mukherjee’s The Gene and The Song of the Cell, but can’t stomach The Mother of all Maladies). And nothing TOO miserable, but I have a fairly high tolerance for historical stuff. I’m particularly fond of micro-history and books that delve into multiple overlapping topics.
As a sampling, here are some books I’ve read and particularly enjoyed in the last two years:
Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder by Caroline Fraser
The Cooking Gene by Michael Twitty
The Gene: An Intimate History by Siddhartha Mukherjee
Song of the Cell by Siddhartha Mukherjee
On Savage Shores: How Indigenous Americans Discovered Europe by Caroline Pennock
Fifth Sun: A New History of the Aztecs by Camilla Townsend
The Five: The Untold Lives of the Victims of Jack the Ripper by Hallie Rubenhold
The Last Days of the Incas by Kim McQuarrie
The Dream and the Nightmare: The Story of the Syrians who Boarded the Titanic by Leila Salloum Elias
Life on a Young Planet: The First Three Billion Yeats by Andrew Knoll
Salt: A World History by Mark Kurlansky
The Food of a Younger Land by Mark Kurlansky
Mastering the Art of Soviet Cooking by Anya von Bremzen
Jesus and John Wayne by Kristine Kobes du Mez
Kingdom of Characters: The Language Revolution that made China Modern by JIng Tsu
The Last Island: Discovery, Defiance, and the Most Elusive Tribe on Earth by Adam Goodheart
Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake
National Dish: Around the World in Search of Food, History, and the Meaning of Home by Anya von Bremzen
The Horse, the Wheel, and Language: How Bronze-Age Riders from the Eurasian Steppes Shaped the Modern World by David W. Anthony
The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny, and Murder by David Grann
Fire away!

@aspec-stardust The Jacquard Loom book is called Jacquard's Web by James Essinger. The two I followed it up with are The Golden Thread by Cassia St. Clair and The Fabric of Civilization by Virginia I Postrel.
I totally recommend them, with the note that I did, in fact, read them and fall down a giant fibrecraft rabbit hole and now yarn is taking over my house.

Who would be friends with Allie St James, Yvette/Ivy Knight, and/or Cassia Potter?
Ooooh okay.
Allie St. James: My new Gilmore Girls OC (who currently does not have a name but whose FC is Scarlett Byrne) who was best friends with Jess in New York, so she’d be best friends with Allie as well. She’d take her in when Allie’s parents were being shits and when Allie moves to Stars Hollow, I picture the OC taking annual trips to visit her.
Ivy Knight: I wanna say Willa Lance (because I’m low-key thinking of changing her FC back to Blake Lively) but also because Willa understands how much it hurts to love Oliver Queen and how much work caring about him and his family is, so Willa would 100% be there for Ivy and I think the combination of Brains (Ivy) and Brawn (Willa) is just great.
Cassia Potter: Carina Hawthorne. I think they’d be more like older sister/little sister vibes, cause Carina is around Fred and George’s age, but Carina would absolutely adore Cassia and defend her from toxic men and toxic adults in her life because Carina has also had to deal with that and she would not stand for it. Also they’d pull the best pranks together.
Send me one of your ocs and I’ll tell you which of mine would be friends with them

2020 Reading Challenge - E-Book Edition!
According to Amazon, I have exactly 294 e-books currently sitting in my Kindle library.
Granted, some of these books have been read and are being saved for a second (or third, or fourth) re-read, but when it comes down to it, that number is around 40 books, give or take.
Which means I still have over 250 books that need to be read.
And it’s not like I haven’t tried! There are plenty of titles that, when opened up, will go to the last place I left off - that being chapter 5, or maybe chapter 10. But sometimes life gets in the way. Or a sudden interest in another author. Or a new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. But whatever the reason may be, it’s over 250 books that haven’t been read. Challenge accepted!
For 2020, I commit to not buying any new books to add to my Kindle library (checking out books from the library is ok, because you’ve gotta support your local library!), and instead focus on the books I already have. So no addition of 99 cent books, or Kindle Unlimited books, or books that are suddenly 75% off. Only the books that I currently have.
As the reading commences, and after the book is finished, I’ll update my list to indicate what has been completed, along with the date purchased, and a short review (or a reason I just couldn’t finish it at all).
Below is the list for future reference - and to clarify my what my favorite genre is. Spoiler: it’s romance novels.

Laughing and joking around with her friends as she had a cigarette between her index finger and a drink in her other hand. It was her fiance’s birthday party so Cassia was surrounded by all their friends, mostly his, considering how social he was. Cassia liked to think that she was a social creature, but Matt was on a whole other level. He could easily befriend a bum off the street and then start acting like they’ve been friends for years. That’s just what Matt was like and she loved that about him. “Cass!” she heard her name being called. Blowing out the smoke in her lungs, she turned towards the voice belonging to her fiance when she spotted the man next to him. Her face dropped and her eyes widening ever so slightly when she saw who it was. Cassia felt her blood run cold and she felt as if she was seeing a ghost from her past. “Matt,” she greeted her fiance, forcing a smile so he wouldn’t see. “Who do you have here?”

only 4.5 halloween month edits left to plan and drawing a complete and total blank so this is one more call for anyone to help me choose ocs to use 😭 (most of the ones that I still need to plan are for halloween costumes so truly any ocs work for that 👀 I just feel all idead out for the moment rip)
Edit: so far I have used the following ocs, but I'm entirely open to repeats and some of them (namely Gilmore Girls & Gossip Girl) are being used in group edits as opposed to each getting a separate project
Spencer Hargrove, Ophelia Wayne, Greer Collier, Cassia Potter, Stacey Byers, Rosabelle Legume, Verona Rosier, Hollis Everdeen, Mercy Correira, Coco Bates, Kyla Keller, Valentina Wolfe, Colette Gerard-Waldorf, Autumn Ambrosia, Paris Rothschild, Kirsty Gilmore, Sophie Dugray, Vicki St James, Avery Stiles, Sage Hall, possibly Jacqueline Grant & Viviana Lozano, Arianne Martin, Nikki Rogers, Colton & Cece Cartwright, Sidney Hopper, Betty Fabray, Laura Hyde, Ilsa Gilmore-Danes, Ivy Knight, Abi Claremont-Diaz, Jo Berry & Camilo Ayers, and I have a plan for a supernatural OC but I’m undecided between Elle, Isla, and Deborah for it
Edit 2: plan done!!

St. Jericho is a school like no other. An elite private college that takes hell to get into and an application process that seems to scream insanity. It has been around for a long time and it’s beautiful campus is surrounded by woods and an odd lakes. The school has a secret though. Inside it houses hundreds of young and old supernatural creatures, catering to their needs as well as classes on how to protect themselves. The school caters to all supernatural creatures in hopes to make sure the races survive. IT’s been a bit intense lately since the school last year closed early due to hunters getting in and attacking the students. Now that it’s a new year the school has changed, more protection added. Staff has been added that specialize in helping students. The hope is to bring the school to something normal again.
*This is a supernatural college verse
