Thank you to the lovely @rosesnink for this ask from this list. She asked me to write a fic for both of our OH MC's, Jordyn & Casey. I hope you like what I came up with!

Book: Open Heart Pairing: Casey x Jordyn (F!MC x F!MC) Rating: Teen Category: One-off/One-shot/"There's only one bed" Words: 1,100 Summary: Jordyn & Casey arrive in Cleveland for a one-week symposium at the Cleveland Clinic. The women are upset that they're staying at a distant Air B&B, while attendings were put up in a posh hotel by the hospital. But Casey's determined to make the best of it, and when they woke the next morning, they realized it might not be such a bad thing.

“This is ridiculous!” Jordyn complained as they arrived at a nondescript apartment building in a Cleveland suburb. “Why are the attendings set up at the Hotel Intercontinental, right down the block from the Cleveland Clinic, while we’re stuck at an Airbnb in Beachwood?”

Casey was just as frustrated as Jordyn, but after watching her friend seethe for the entire 20-minute drive, she knew she had to help calm her down.

“I get it,” she said soothingly. “But on the bright side, this place does have a pool in the complex.”

Jordyn turned to Casey with pursed lips. “Do you seriously think the Intercontinental doesn’t have a pool?”

“I’m trying here,” Casey sighed. “At least as the only interns here since we’re the only interns here, we can avoid those creepy doctors from Kenmore that were leering at us!”

Jordyn tried to appear unmoved, but a smirk slipped through. “You make a good point.”

“I know,” Casey teased. “I usually do! So, let’s focus on the positives and check this place out!”

Jordyn slipped the key into the door, and they entered the studio apartment that would be home for the next week. It didn’t take long to see it all.

“Uhm, I believe realtors would call this place ‘cozy,’” Casey noted.

“‘Cozy’ is how they described that closet they tried to rent to me in Boston,” Jordyn countered.

“Exactly! But at least this place is clean and even cute; look at the little sunflowers embroidered on the curtains!”

“Yeah,” Jordyn smirked. “They match the bedspread... on the one bed in this room.”

Casey’s eyes widened as she bit her bottom lip. “Well, would you look at that?”

Now, Jordyn was the one smiling as she nudged Casey’s shoulder. “Lucky for you, I don’t snore!”

About forty minutes later, Jordyn emerged from the shower, towel-drying her long, blonde hair. Casey, who had showered first, was sitting cross-legged on the bed—the only place they had to sit — her hair pulled into a messy bun and a slice of pizza in her hand.

“You’re eating in bed?” Jordyn teased. “Great, you, me, and pizza crust crumbs sharing a bed tonight.”

Casey rolled her eyes. “Sorry, Jor. I considered eating in the west wing, but the servants hadn’t had a chance to clean it yet.”

Jordyn belly-flopped onto the mattress and grabbed a slice of pizza from the box. When she bit in, the look on her face indicated approval. “It’s not Boston pizza, but it’s not bad.”

“I did check reviews before ordering,” Casey smiled.

“I knew you would!” she smiled. “I have to admit, there are worse things I could be stuck in bed with than you and pizza crumbs.”

“Agreed,” Casey giggled, “but I still say we get rid of the crumbs before going to sleep.”

After the lights were turned off, the two friends slipped under the covers, trading jokes the entire time.

“Try not to grab my butt during the night,” Jordyn instructed.

“As long as you don’t end up spooning me,” Casey replied. “If you spoon me, I call full butt-grabbing privileges.”

After a few more barbs and a lot more giggles, the exhausted doctors fell asleep.

In the morning, Casey was the first to wake. Opening her eyes, she found Jordyn’s hand lying delicately on her hip. She didn’t make anything of it; the bed was awfully small, and she was confident she probably did something similar during the night... or was that just a dream? Regardless, she had to admit, it felt nice, so she made no effort to move it.

When Jordyn began stirring, Casey shut her eyes and pretended to be asleep. After blinking to adjust her eyes to the morning light, Casey’s “sleeping” face was the first thing she saw, and she smiled. She looked almost angelic, and Jordyn was so enthralled that she didn’t notice the location of her hand. Startled when the realization hit her, she quickly pulled it back but returned it less than a second later.

Afraid her blushing cheeks would give her away, Casey quickly “awoke” with a smile. Her voice was still groggy; but she couldn’t wait to bust her friend’s chops... or was it flirting?

“Sure,” she smirked. “Tell me not to grab your butt, and look what I wake up to.”

Jordyn did not back down. “So, should I love it?”

Casey’s eyes shot open, and their blue eyes met.

“It’s fine,” she demurred, brushing loose strands of hair away from Jordyn’s face. “You know, you are really pretty.”

“You only say that because we look so much alike,” Jordyn laughed.

“Nah,” Casey insisted. “You’re much prettier than me.”

Jordyn played with the fabric of Casey’s nightshirt, feeling the warmth of her skin through the thin, soft cotton.

“Did you sleep well?” Casey continued.

“More or less, except you are like a furnace! I felt like I needed to take my clothes off.”

“Well,” Casey said with a big stretch. “I wouldn’t have stopped you.”

Her legs flipped over the side of the bed, and she slipped into her slippers. Jordyn watched her as she shuffled the short distance to the bathroom.

“Are you flirting with me, Dr. MacTavish?”

Casey turned with a wink. “I don’t know, but we have to share that bed for a whole week... I suppose we’ll soon find out.”

Shocked by her own words, Casey rushed into the bathroom and shut the door. Where did this newfound bravado come from? She had tried to tell Jordyn how she felt dozens of times before but couldn’t garner the nerve to make the slightest move. Now, she just hoped it wasn’t a mistake. But it was all right; she could have played it off as a joke if she had.

But as Jordyn fell back against her pillows, she wasn’t laughing. She hadn’t admitted her crush on Casey to anyone, barely even herself, but if there was a chance she felt the same way... Suddenly, she was happy that they weren’t at the Intercontinental with everyone else. Breakfast alone sounded like the perfect way to get to the bottom of this.

When Casey emerged from the bathroom, Jordyn grabbed her hand. “Hey, can I treat you to breakfast?”

“I don’t know,” Casey said, her heart racing. “If you do, would you consider it our first date?”

The smiles on each other’s faces quickly put the two women at ease.

“Hmmm,” Jordyn hummed. “I suppose it could be... if they have freshly squeezed orange juice. Because I’d only take you to a classy establishment for our first date.”

“All right,” Casey winked, shocking Jordyn when she reached over and placed a kiss on her cheek. “Then let’s hope it does.”

Now it was Jordyn’s turn to rush into the bathroom and close the door behind her as her breath quickened. This was really happening! She took out her phone and began a search... there was no way she was taking any chances...

Cutter and Rutger’s family’s were taking a vacation up in the mountains and spending most of the vacation snowboarding and skiing, they were also spending Cutter’s birthday at the snow.

Cutter was peaceful sleeping under her many layers of blankets and was extremely warm in her little cocoon, she didn’t hear Rutger quietly walking into her room as he sat on her bed gently shaking her.

“Cut.” Rutger softly whispered making her groan and turn her head hiding her face in her pillow, “Come on Cutta.” He softly cooed making her groan and turn her head to him squinting her eyes at him.

“Happy birthday.” Rutger softly spoke leaning down pressing a soft kiss to her forehead making her cheeks flush a light pink.

Cutter hummed squeezing his hand in thanks and noticed how the sun was not even up and it was still very dark outside, “Why is the sun not up and i’m up.” Cutter grumpily grumbled.

“It’s a surprise, just get dressed in your snow gear and meet me downstairs.” Rutger told her before smiling at her once more before getting up and leaving her room.

Cutter groaned rubbing her face, Rutger was so lucky he is her best friend anyone else she would have smacked for waking her up this early.

Cutter very reluctantly got out of bed and slowly slipped on her snow clothes and excited her room heading down the stairs of the cabin seeing some of the lights on and she noticed one of the walls all decorated with silver streamers and a number sixteen balloons.

Cutter walked through the bottom floor and found Rutger in the kitchen, she smiled softly seeing a very cute cake and a bouquet of white tulips, her favorite flower.

Cutter picked up the car in the flowers and raised an eyebrow seeing they were from Rutger.

“Happy sixteenth birthday.” Rutger softly whispered pressing a gentle kiss to her cheek.

Cutter was glad Rutger was standing behind her so he didn’t see the pleased smile she was trying to hide.

“Thank you Rut.” Cutter softly whispered back grabbing his hand and squeezing it once before dropping it.

“Alright let’s get going.” Rutger told her walking to the front door picking his backpack up and putting it own before opening front door getting blasted with the freezing cold air.

Cutter shook her head fondly as she followed Rutger into the freezing cold, the things she does for her best friend.

Cutter followed Rutger for a good fifteen minutes of comforting silence as they hiked a small snow mountain.

Once they reached the top Cutter’s breath was caught in her throat at his beautiful the view was from up there especially as the sun was slowly starting to come up as well.

Rutger plopped down on the snow opening his backpack as Cutter admired the view in front of her.

Rutger pulled out two thermoses, handing one to Cutter as she sat down next to him. Cutter took a small sip not sure what was in the thermos but was pleasantly surprised it was her favorite hot chocolate, the one Rutger makes.

Cutter leaned her head on his shoulder she happily sipped on her hot chocolate with Rutger as they watched the sunrise together.

“Thank you.” Cutter softly spoke after a few minutes of peaceful silence, she was grateful to have someone as special and kind as Rutger in her life.

“Always.” Rutger promised squeezing her shoulder before reaching into his back pack and grabbing a small box and handing it to Cutter looking nervous.

“Happy birthday.” Rutger watched her nervously as she gently opened the small black box.

Cutter’s eyes widen in shock as she delicately picked up the small necklace, it was a star, her favorite star. Something she has never told anyone.

“How did you?” Cutter looked up at Rutger in a shock and disbelief.

“I pay attention.” Rutger nonchalantly shrugged but was smiled pleased glad Cutter likes it.

“It’s perfect.” Cutter whispered in awe gently tracing her finger over the small star charm.

“Good.” Rutger smiled satisfied that he picked a necklace she seems to love.

“Help me put it on?” Cutter asked him softly holding the necklace out to him.

Rutger eagerly nodded and gently took the necklace as Cutter turned around pushing her hair to one side of her shoulders.

Rutger softly wrapped the necklace around her neck and clipped it close.

He watched as she turned back around facing him again, “Beautiful.” Rutger mumbled staring at her with stars in his eyes.

Cutter froze hearing him, she didn’t understand why she felt what she feels for Rutger but she isn’t ready to figure that out yet.

Rutger gently pushed her hair behind her ear and smiled sadly at her seeing the fear on her face, “I know.” Rutger knows Cutter better than anyone and knows how much she gets uncomfortable because of her own emotions and hates feeling vulnerable.

Which is also why Rutger knows when Cutter feels something for him back, he notices the pink that dust her cheeks because oh him and the glances she makes when she thinks he is not looking. Rutger is more than happy to wait as long as he needs to until Cutter is comfortable, Cutter is still his best friend and that is more than enough.

“I do have feelings for you Cutter but i know you aren’t ready for anything, i will happily wait for however long you need because i am perfectly content being just your best friend.” Rutger softly confessed but also reassured her, he did not want to make her feel bad because he understood.

“Now we better get back everyone else is probably wake by now.” Rutger smiled at her reassuring her again, he didn’t want her birthday to be sad but he did want her to know he does care for her romantically but is happy with being just friends.

Cutter reluctantly nodded and toon Rutger’s hand standing up as they grabbed their stuff before staring the hike back down the snowy hill.

Cutter was waiting on the swing on her front porch for the Mcgroarty to show up.

The restrictions for Covid loosened and Rutger’s family was coming out to Cutter’s family lake house in Arizona to spend some well needed time together.

Cutter rolled her eyes annoyed at Kennedy and Keegan arguing again, she had been stuck with the two fighting constantly the entire quarantine.

Cutter turned her head seeing her littlest sibling and her favorite sibling, Kingston. Kingston was rolling her eyes looking just as annoyed listening to their siblings arguing, “Do they know how to be quiet.” Kingston sassily mumbled.

Cutter pressed her lips together smiling proudly at her seven year old sister, “And this Kingsy is why you’re my favorite.” Cutter muttered to her baby sister as she pressed a soft kiss to her head.

Kingston proudly smiled, from the second she was born it was so obvious that Cutter was her favorite.

Cutter got up seeing the car pull into the driveway and she headed to the stairs rolling her eyes as Kennedy pushed past her to get to Molly first.

Rutger grinned widely as he got out of the car seeing his best friend, Cutter titled her head to the side opening her arms slightly and actually smiling for once.

Rutger immediately bounded right over to her tackling her into a tight hug almost knocking them both over with how hard he tackled her.

Cutter let out a fond breath gripping onto Rutger just as tightly back.

“I’ve missed you so much.” Rutger mumbled holding on to Cutter so tightly in fear she would be away from him again.

“I missed you too.” Cutter quietly admitted, she had missed Rutger and also was anxiously waiting to tell him she feels the same.

Rutger very reluctantly let go of his best friend from their hug to let her greet the rest of his family.

“Cutter!” Cindy beamed pulling her future daughter in law into a tight hug, rocking her side to side, “You have grown even more beautiful my dear.” Cindy softly cooed holding Cutter’s face delicately in her hands.

“Thank you.” Cutter flushed slighty just as she does every time Cindy compliments her, it means a lot coming from Cindy but as she also knows Cindy is being completely honest.

“Cut!!” Molly grinned walking past her mother and pulling Cutter into a very tight hug, Cutter has and will always be Molly’s favorite out of Rutger’s friends.

“Hi Mols.” Cutter softly greeted her back, Cutter does not enjoy a lot of the more “Girly” things but the few times she does it is because she is doing them with Molly and she’s gonna to see Molly as an older sister.

Jim waited until his girls were done saying hi to Cutter before he pulled her into a gentle hug.

“Alright give me my Cutter back.” Rutger grumbled wanting to be with his beta friend after being apart for so long, he didn’t notice he called her his but Cutter did and she flushed slightly.

Rutger wrapped his arm around her shoulder making her lean against him.

Molly chuckled at her brother and just shook her head fondly.

Kim and Cindy shared a knowing glance that made Kim nod her head with smile making Cindy bean excitedly.

“Come on you dork.” Cutter rolled her eyes fondly at her best friend and pulled him into her house past their two families.

Rutger happily let her pull her through her house and to her bedroom.

Rutger immediately let go of her hand when he stepped inside her room and flopped onto her bed sighing happy cuddling into her fluffy blankets and getting the scent of Cutter.

Cutter just shook her head fondly but was smiling watching Rutger as she has missed his cuddling and napping on her bed, she never understood why Rutger likes laying on her bed so much.

“Come here.” Rutger softly whispered pleading with her as he held out his arms towards her.

Cutter blinked slightly not use to Rutger straight up asking for her to cuddle but took a deep breath and got into bed laying down next to Rutger laying her head on his chest and immediately feeling Rutger’s arms wrap around her and feeling him sigh happily.

“I’ve missed you so much.” Rutger mumbled against the top of her head closing his eyes peacefully, feeling so happy having Cutter in his arms and it gave him hope she might be getting ready to feel the same for him.

“I’ve missed you too.” Cutter admitted whispering against his chest, she never had cuddled like this Rutger and she was curtain herself for not doing it sooner, she has never felt more comfortable or content.

Rutger smiled happily hearing her words, “What was that? Is the Cutter Gauthier admitting she had missed me!” Rutger teased her poking her side making her squirm.

Cutter chuckled grabbing Rutger’s hand to stop him from poking her anymore, “I did miss you.” Cutter admitted again hiding her face in Rutger’s chest.

Rutger smiled softly squeezing her tighter pressing a very soft kiss to the top of her head.

Cutter and Rutger cuddled together for a good while and both of them dozing off for a while in each other’s arms.

Cutter was fiddling with the bracelets stacked on Rutger’s wrist having woke up before Rutger and didn’t want to get out of his embrace.

Rutger woke up and felt his heart squeeze happily realizing he had been napping with Cutter in his arms but she was also still there when he woke up and just fiddling with his brackets.

Rutger looked at Cutter’s face and could tell it was thoughtful and knew she was thinking hard over something.

“What are you thinking about in that brain of yours?” Rutger softly teased poking her forehead softly.

Cutter bit her lip looking at Rutger slightly fearfully but took a deep breath remembering her mother’s words.

She took a deep breath and sat up looking at Rutger, “Do you still feel the same towards me?” Cutter was nervous that Rutger might no longer feel the same towards her and she could not blame him because she had made him wait for so long.

Rutger’s eyes widen in shock and he slowly looked hopeful, he sat up grabbing Cutter’s hands, “I will always feel the same toward you. I told you i would wait forever for you.” Rutger softly reassured her, to Rutger she was worth waiting for her.

Rutger felt hopefully as Cutter started this conversation and hoped maybe she was going to admit she felt something for him.

Cutter let out a small sigh of relief hearing Rutger’s reassuring words.

Cutter took a deep breath gripping onto Rutger’s hands tighter, “It scares me. How much i feel for your Rutger James. I always have and i’ve tried to push it away for a long while now but i don’t want to hide what i feel for you no longer.” Cutter slowly cupped his face with one of her hands making Rutger happily lean into her touch as he listened to her speak.

“And what do you feel for me?” Rutger softly whispered smiling softly at her, he was beaming as he realized Cutter was admitting she felt something for him.

“I love you.” Cutter admitted to Rutger whispering just as softly back. Cutter had to take the step and admit her feelings and she no longer wanted to held back by her fear, she loves Rutger and she wants him to know that.

Rutger let out a small breathy chuckle feeling his heart squeezing tightly as he heard her say the words he has been dreaming of her saying for a long time.

“You do?” Rutger whispered in disbelief looking at her with hopeful eyes bringing his hand up to cover her hand that was still holding his face gently.

“I do.” Cutter softly smiling as she reassured him and she was happy seeing how happy her words have made Rutger.

“I love you I love you I love you I love you.” Rutger repeated over and over as he pressed multiple kisses around her face making her laugh and wrap her arms around his shoulder pulling him closer to her.

Rutger put his hands on her waist pulling her closer making her sit on his lap as he sat on her bed still.

Cutter leaned her forehead against his forehead letting out a happy sigh, she has been scared for so long of admitting her feelings but seeing how happy it made Rutger made her wish she told him sooner.

“I love you.” Rutger whispered softly rubbing his nose softly against her nose. Rutger couldn’t believe she really did feel the same for him and that she finally admitted her feelings.

“I love you too.” Cutter whispered back just as softly and she leaned closer making the two lips finally touch again.

Rutger and Cutter both let out identical sighs as they finally kissed again, something they both have been waiting for since they kissed for the first time.

“This does mean i can be your boyfriend now right?” Rutger cheekily questioned the second they stopped kissing.

Cutter let out a fond laugh rolling her eyes fondly at her boyfriend, “Yes Rut you’re my boyfriend.” Cutter reassured him before pressing her lips back to his.

“Awesome.” Rutger mumbled all distracted as he desperately pressed his lips against his girlfriend’s and holding her tightly to him.

El Dia de los Muertos

All was organized chaos in the Carrick household, work, various Halloween parties, trick or treating keeping everyone on their toes. Everyone though was excited for a few days when Ethan and Eva were to come for a visit.

It had been a rough time, Tobias nearly losing Casey had made everyone come to grips to a degree with their own mortality. Eva by no means was a practicing Catholic, despite being brought up with many of the traditions but she felt it prudent that this year they commemorate El Dia de Los Muertos. They all had people that had passed that they would love to commemorate. So Eva and Casey organized it all. The men were not aware of what was to happen. Casey already had the Ofrendas organized and Eva had organized the flowers to be delivered on the day. Casey also invited Vivian so that she could participate also.

The day came and Casey was excited. Eva and Ethan arrived in the morning. Ethan went to the clinic to meet with Tobias while Eva stayed at the house with Casey and Kayla. Casey and Eva set up the Ofrendas. There were photos of Charles Carrick, Casey’s grandma Nonna Katerina, Mrs Martinez as well as some of Eva’s grandparents. They got to cooking. It was going to be a celebratory feast.

Ethan and Tobias came home with Sammy and Brooke. Both were a little perplexed at what was happening.

“Myself and Casey have planned a little El Dia de Los Muertos celebration.” Said Eva. After the last year me and Casey felt that it would be nice to celebrate the day of the dead.”

Both men nodded in agreement. Casey added “yes Tobias, Vivian is coming over too.”

Right on cue there was a knock on the door. It was Vivian.

Tobias was not surprised to see his mother but Vivian was surprised to see Ethan and Eva.

“Hello Vivian” said Ethan.

“Ethan, darling, Eva, how lovely to see you…” Vivian spies the Ofrendas. “What is that?”

“It is an Ofrendas. Me and Casey thought it would be nice to have an El Dia de Los Muertos celebration.” Said Eva.

“But you are Cuban, not Mexican.” Says Vivian.

“I may not be Mexican but many of the Spanish speaking Catholics have some type of celebration for it. I may not be practicing anymore but I do like the sentiments behind it.” Said Eva.

“So do I, dear, so do I.” Said Vivian, clearly emotional.

Everyone partook in the feast. After dinner Vivian and Casey put Kayla to bed whilst Eva, Tobias Ethan as well as Brooke and Sammy shared memories and stories about the people on the Ofrendas. The girls also learnt more about the cultural significance of the Day of the dead as well as All Hallows Eve and All Souls’ Day. It was time for Brooke and Sammy to go to bed. After they went the celebration turned emotional with much more stories shared about Charles, especially by Vivian and also Tobias.

“Thankfully I am not up there after the birth of Kayla” said Casey.

Tobias nodded in agreement, clearly emotional. “That is an emotional hell that I do not care to live through, ever again.” Said Tobias.

“At least if I did go you would have known how proud I was of you and how much I loved you.” Said Casey.

“That is true.” Said Tobias.

“I take comfort in that at least I know he would be proud.” Said Tobias.

Vivian nodded in agreement. “He was upset and I am sure that he wished he had longer…”

“Please do not be in a hurry to join him, please. Vivian.” Said Casey.

“I will be sticking around for awhile, I enjoy my grandchildren and my daughter in law far too much.” Said Vivian with a chuckle. “Charles would have loved to have been a grandfather, that much I do know.”

The night continued, and it was truly a celebration of those who had gone before and more importantly everyone was able to appreciate what they had currently , especially Tobias and Casey.

The night came to an end. Vivian went back to her townhouse while Ethan and Eva stayed with Tobias and Casey.

“That was a lovely thought you and Eva had.” Said Tobias.

“It was a joyous evening, I think Vivian also enjoyed being involved too.”

“Not that my mother ever needs another reason to come over but yeah, it was lovely to invite her.”

Casey and Tobias decide to put the Ofrendas up next year also.

Authors note:

I know it was for Halloween but there was an evolution of an idea. Initially it was a Halloween party with Eva convincing Ethan to go dressed up as if they were doing a full El Dia de Los Muertos celebration but then it evolved to a more intimate gathering as was in the fic, actually I wanted an excuse to add Vivian really.
