The Predication of Saint Paul
Artist: Joseph-Benoît Suvée (Flemish, 1743–1807)
Date: circa 1779, Belgium
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Collection: Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA, United States
Paul the Apostle
Paul also named Saul of Tarsus, commonly known as Paul the Apostle and Saint Paul, was a Christian apostle who spread the teachings of Jesus in the first-century world. For his contributions towards the New Testament, he is generally regarded as one of the most important figures of the Apostolic Age, and he also founded several Christian communities in Asia Minor and Europe.
The main source of information on Paul's life and works is the Acts of the Apostles in the New Testament. Approximately half of its content documents his travels, preaching and miracles. Paul was not one of the Twelve Apostles, and did not know Jesus during his lifetime. According to the Acts, Paul lived as a Pharisee and participated in the persecution of early disciples of Jesus, possibly Hellenised diaspora Jews converted to Christianity, in the area of Jerusalem, prior to his conversion. Some time after having approved of the execution of Stephen, Paul was traveling on the road to Damascus so that he might find any Christians there and bring them "bound to Jerusalem". At midday, a light brighter than the sun shone around both him and those with him, causing all to fall to the ground, with the risen Christ verbally addressing Paul regarding his persecution in a vision. Having been made blind, along with being commanded to enter the city, his sight was restored three days later by Ananias of Damascus. After these events, Paul was baptized, beginning immediately to proclaim that Jesus of Nazareth was the Jewish messiah and the Son of God. He made three missionary journeys to spread the Christian message to non-Jewish communities in Asia Minor, the Greek provinces of Achaia, Macedonia, and Cyprus, as well as Judea and Syria, as narrated in the Acts.

There's a lot to love about season 8, but what always gets me is how poetic it is. Dean spends the whole season trying so fucking hard to get Cas to stay with him. He spends a year tearing Purgatory apart trying to find him, insists he's not gonna go back to Earth without him, and when that doesn't pan out, changes his own memory of what happened rather than believe Cas chose not to go with him. Not to mention, a few eps later, he's literally bruised and beaten on his knees in front of Cas, clinging to his hand and begging for Cas to see him, to come back to him because he needs him. And Cas does come back. But he doesn't stay.
Cas, on the other hand, feels so guilty about everything he did to Heaven, and is so very desperate to fix it in any way that's available to him. At the same time, he's being fucked with, forced to cause even more pain to his brethren, well all he really wants to do is heal babies and save sweet adorable angels. The most important thing in Cas' life, the thing he gave up everything for and dedicated his life to is free will, and his is being ripped away from him. It's so incredibly sad, but after he breaks out of it, I think he feels even more responsibility to Heaven. Things are even worse up there than he thought, and with someone like Naomi in charge, both Heaven and Earth could be facing even more pain and destruction if she's given free reign to carry out her machinations. Is it any wonder when the famed Metatron comes in like a lost messiah and says he has a plan to fix it all, that Cas goes along with it? I mean, Metatron knows exactly what to say to manipulate Cas:
They can fix Heaven.
By locking up Heaven the fighting won't spill over onto Earth and affect humans.
Cas doesn't have to lead or make any decisions. He just needs to be a soldier, a warrior.
Anyway, all that culminates in a finale where Cas believes it's his responsibility to fix Heaven, and Dean finally having the realisation that Cas is an angel. He doesn't feel things the way a human does. He has other priorities, and no matter how hard Dean tries, he's not going to be able to force Cas to stay with him. E.T.'s always going to go home.
Only for Cas to have his grace taken for him, be sent back to Earth, and for the first time to truly understand human feelings without the filter of his grace or angelic sensibilities. Wonder if he's going to have any epiphanies about his priorities and what and who he truly wants out of life because of it?
#god the s8 finale is so good#and I think human Cas is one of the most important arcs on the show#my spn thoughts#destiel#spn meta#8x23#spn

Ruffled Feathers 🪶
~ Part 27 ~
Summary: Julia Morgan, Bobby's niece, has always been a royal thorn in Dean Winchesters ass since the day they met 1 year ago at Bobby's memorial. She wants to be a hunter, he thinks she's a dumb kid playing dress up. Will she always be seen as an unwanted load in Dean's eyes or will he see something more?
Pairing: Dean x OC
Warnings: Age gap, language, sexual themes (used lightly), physical abuse (Not by Dean).
Word Count: 962
A/N: Stated as always this story is cross posted on Wattpad. Happy reading! ❤️
The bunker was eerily quiet, aside from the occasional sounds of Sam tapping away at his laptop. Dean sat at the table, staring blankly at the map in front of him, but his mind was miles away, still haunted by what happened with the First Blade and Abaddon. The Mark of Cain weighed heavy on him. It had changed him—he could feel it in his bones, and he hated it.
Julia watched him from across the room, her eyes filled with concern. She had seen Dean fight before, seen him at his worst, but this...this was something different. The way he had lost control when he killed Abaddon, the way the Mark had consumed him—it terrified her. She hadn't said anything, not yet, but she knew something was coming. Something worse.
Just then, Sam's voice broke the silence.
"Dean, I think I found something."
Dean snapped out of his thoughts and looked over at his brother. Sam turned the laptop toward him and Julia, showing them an article about a religious movement that had been spreading like wildfire. The leader was claiming to be a prophet, performing miracles, gathering followers, and speaking of divine judgment.
"That's Metatron," Dean muttered darkly.
Julia furrowed her brow. "Metatron? The scribe of God?"
"Yeah, and now he thinks he's God himself," Sam explained. "He's been using the Angel Tablet to boost his powers, and he's got Gadreel backing him up."
Dean clenched his jaw, the Mark pulsing beneath his skin. Metatron had already caused enough damage. He had manipulated Cas, killed Kevin, and now, he was rallying human followers like some sort of false messiah. It made Dean's blood boil.
"What about Cas?" Julia asked, leaning forward. "Where does he stand in all this?"
"Cas got his grace back," Sam replied. "But it's not enough. Metatron's got the Angel Tablet, and that makes him nearly unstoppable. We need to find him and take him down before things get worse."
Dean stood up, his fists clenched at his sides. "Then we go after him. I've had enough of Metatron's crap."
Before anyone could say more, the room filled with a soft flutter of wings, and Castiel appeared in front of them. He looked weary, but determined.
"Cas," Dean said, his voice laced with relief. "Good timing."
Cas gave a small nod, his blue eyes flickering between the three of them. "I've been following Metatron's movements. He's become more dangerous than ever, Dean. He's attempting to reshape the world in his image, using the Angel Tablet to turn himself into a god for mankind."
"We know," Sam said. "He's got a cult following, and he's been performing miracles. What's his endgame?"
"Metatron believes that if he can gather enough human worshipers, he can fully ascend and replace God," Cas explained. "He's delusional, but powerful. Gadreel is acting as his second-in-command, enforcing his will on the other angels who refuse to follow."
Julia stood, crossing her arms. "So, how do we stop him?"
Cas's expression hardened. "We need to destroy the Angel Tablet. Without it, Metatron will lose his power. But finding him won't be easy—he's fortified himself in a place where only his followers can reach him."
Dean let out a frustrated sigh. "Great. So we've got a wannabe god with an army of angels and humans. Awesome."
Cas stepped closer to Dean, his gaze somber. "Dean, the Mark of Cain...it's changing you. I can see it. You need to be careful."
Dean stiffened at the mention of the Mark, but he shrugged off Cas's concern. "I'm fine, Cas. Let's just focus on stopping Metatron."
Cas didn't seem convinced, but he let it go for now. There were bigger things at stake. "We need to move quickly. The longer Metatron has the Tablet, the more power he'll gain."
Dean nodded, but the Mark still throbbed beneath his skin, a constant reminder of the darkness inside him. He pushed it aside, focusing on the task ahead. They had to stop Metatron, no matter what it took.
As they prepared to head out, Julia watched Dean closely, worry etched on her face. She knew Dean was carrying more than he let on, and with the Mark eating away at him, she feared what might happen next.
But for now, they had a mission. And Julia wasn't about to let Dean face it alone.
Hours later, they tracked down one of Metatron's followers in an abandoned church, deep in the woods. It was cold and silent, the wind howling through the broken windows. Sam and Cas led the way, while Dean and Julia followed closely behind, their weapons drawn.
The air was thick with tension, and Julia couldn't shake the feeling that something terrible was about to happen.
"Stay close," Dean whispered to her, his eyes scanning the area. He was more protective of her now, more on edge since the fight with Abaddon. Julia could feel it in the way he stayed near her, the way his hand lingered on his weapon.
As they moved through the church, they found Metatron's follower—an angel with a crazed look in his eyes. He attacked without warning, but Dean was faster, the Mark lending him strength. He swung the First Blade, cutting through the angel with ease, his eyes darkening as the power surged through him.
The others watched, a mix of concern and awe, as Dean stood over the fallen angel, breathing heavily. The Mark had taken over again, but this time, Dean managed to pull himself back, dropping the Blade to the floor.
Julia placed a hand on his arm, her touch grounding him. "Dean?"
He looked at her, his eyes softening for a moment. "I'm okay."
But they both knew the truth.

In the good spn that lives in my head, Castiel didn’t pull Dean out of hell on a Thursday because the angel of Thursday is actually the archangel Zachiel, and not the archangel Cassiel, who Cas is based on.
Instead Castiel pulled Dean out of hell on a Sunday, effectively drawing yet another parallel between Dean and Jesus, and giving more meaning to Mary (the virgin mary, whose name means bitter or rebellious) and John (whose name means graced by god) giving birth to the Antichrist (Sam "boy king of hell" Winchester, vessel of the father of all demons) and the Messiah (Dean "the michael sword" Winchester, vessel of the dearest warrior of god).
This would also pair nicely with the fact that dean spent 40 years in hell, like jesus spent 40 days in the desert being tempted by the devil.

(are people allowed to talk to you off anon? All I see are anons) So longtime Pride fan here who lives in CA and has ACFC tickets wanting to weigh in. This fucking sucks so hard for the Pride. I'm still excited for this season but this loss after the rookie season Bright just had hits hard. And they only got 130k for arguably their best forward (her or Adriana) because they were respecting her wishes. If any team deserves good soccer karma it's them now. Gonna take a minute to get over this one.
HUGE pickup for Angel City though. Bright has a size and physicality in the box we need, as well as the header threat. Also knows really well how to get on the end of the ball so hopefully all those crosses from Emslie go somewhere now. I can't say we needed another forward, but who would say no to Bright's talent. Honestly this was the steal of the year for Angel City.
lol yeah people can nobody really does though
yeah it definitely is a loss for the pride for sure but i still think they have a good squad even without bright so i think they definitely are still a team too look out for
oh yeah for sure i think a messiah emslie link up would be so good imo messiah is the kind of player we’ve been missing up top

A Savior Is Born
"A Savior Who Is Christ the Lord!"
"An Angel said to them: "Do not be afraid; for see I am bringing you good news of Great Joy for all the people: 'To you is born this day in the city of David a Savior who is the Messiah the Lord."
------------------------------
These first weeks of Advent is a time of darkness, in our environment, as it gets dark by 5:00 p.m, and in our own lives with war, poverty, and death around us. And as prepare for Christ to be born we are called to meditate and fast.
I was raised in a southern environment of where the churches main ambition was to bring you to the Lord, and where you are saved for eternity; and still is the main theme there now. The truth is there are only two or three verses in the gospels that even mention the word "Savior."
I had a pastor who introduced me to "process theology" at a young age, which continued through seminary, and so accept for trying to get the right girl, "being saved" was not on my mind.
I came to see Jesus as one who leads us into the struggles of social justice, his Kin-dom is present, here and now. I came to see Jesus as being crucified not for our sins, but for his angering of the powers in bringing people together--rich, poor, the disenfranchised, and so on as one people. The powers that be as they are now do not want that either.
In thirty plus years living and working on the streets, as a sex worker, and as a priest, my theology has come to a "process" in Celtic terms, of seeing the goodness in all people, every individual I encounter there is the face of Christ.
As I hold the hands of people who are bloodied, have been hurt and killed others, they are in such pain as one can ever imagine, I see Christ in their faces. I visit every three months with a young man on death row. I visit on the phone every week. And in him I see the face of Jesus.
I began seeing this as the man lay dying who had killed Zac, and tried to kill me, giving me malaria. He was so broken and afraid, as I gave him the final rights! My eyes were opened to the Christ in all of us!
I have learned to meet each person for who they are. I listened today to several people who think the "homeless" should be driven out of town; I received emails telling me how my writings and theology is all wrong etc. I bite my tongue a lot, really a lot--for I respect their beliefs and theology.
Recently a minister stopped by on Saturday as I was headed out to the Haight to visit, do outreach and have the Eucharist. He wanted to go.
The Eucharistic "liturgy" is inclusive where all are welcome. I begin with fifteen minutes of silence, and a Sacramental prayer which includes every spiritual, or no belief. This minister screamed at me afterward saying I had violated every ministerial rule etc he knew, and stormed off.
Liturgy is the "work of the people," when it does not meet the needs of people it is useless, dead.
For all of us encounter God in different ways, and we experience God in different forms.
Ta-Nehis: Contes writes:
"The streets transforms every ordinary day into a series of quick questions and every correct answer risks a beat down, shooting, or pregnancy."
The streets have been transforming my theology and ministry for over thirty years now, each day there is a quick question, and every correct answer risks a beat down, being harmed. And on these streets I have found the living presence of Jesus of Nazareth! Deo Gratias! Thanks be to God!

There was a momentary blip of confusion that laces itself across Castiel's features, absorbing the whispered words his eyes shifted back and forth like the red line of a clock. He mouthed the mans words 'to die for' in silence and watched him recenter himself on solid ground.
A dark brow raised up as the other fell slightly and a squint followed soon after- giving thought to the offer Castiel paused and took a slow inhale of air he didn't need. The hand held out to him was intriguing in its own sense, but Cas could feel the hesitation that simmered under the surface of the man, his instability and sordid behavior when met with pushback. "No offense but, does America really need an angel for a mascot?" he asked, allowing just a glimmer of his wit to shine through. "They've already massacred the image of the messiah they claim to serve- I'm... not sure donning a.. spandex suit and floating around with a halo is going to end in my favor, don't most humans find pleasure in shooting down things with wings anyway?" he asked, the biting sass bled through his firm demeanor. "If I say yes." he paused and looked Homelander in the eyes. "What changes- do you and I.. become friends?"
John leaned towards Cas, now floating over the ground, and whispers to Cas, " This is why I now would love to extend a job offer to you and you may not want it now however it's to DIE FOR!!!" Homelander comes to the ground softly, placing his feet below him in a sturdy and balanced pose. He pauses for a moment....." Why don't you work for me, as a diplomatic figure of course," chuckling through tightly wound teeth, " not quite like with me but more so below me." John let the last part out without thinking, and as if he felt the reaction of Cas, he too realized he may have messed up. Yet his pride held him still holding out his hand in an expectant nature. He turned to Cas and said, " We got a deal there? You could be America's Angel?"

The Garden - a visual metaphor of the Angels’ past, present and future
I was playing a silly (but fun) game of Trivial Pursuit SPN version with @bluestar86 yesterday when we came across a question pertaining to the Garden and referencing a throne.
It was then that it clicked regarding the visual metaphor of the Garden of Eden and Lucifer’s throne room and exactly why we had such a hugely cringey and staged scene at the end of 13x13... I am so in love with this concept, I’m shouting kudos all around to the production team.
I was reminded that Joshua refers to the Garden of Eden, which lies at the very centre of Heaven, as also known as “Heaven’s Throne Room”.
The garden was beautiful and lovingly tended by Joshua (5x16):
Joshua is then killed by Dagon, Lucifer’s minion (12x19), leaving an opening.
Lucifer then takes over and creates the opposite, a sterile, white, pretty empty Throne Room (13x13):
Saying “Hail to the King... Baby”.
And wow I can’t even type that without cringing at my computer.
But I now really see why this is the case. Fair play. It all makes sense.
Now, of course, the Garden to start with isn’t really a garden for everyone. Joshua tells us it depends, for some it’s the Throne Room, for some it’s the Garden and for them it’s the Cleveland Botanical Gardens. But it all fits the metaphor visually for the audience so I’ll address this.
The metaphor of the Garden fits perfectly with the Angels start, current and endgame. Angels in general seem to have loved Humanity, many used to walk the Earth, take Human lovers (from the fact they had to instill the Sacred Oath as a deterrent), they tended to Humanity and the Earth, a little pruning, a little nudge here and there, but overall good. Then a few Angels took charge, they threw in the Sacred Oath and used it for their own devices (Ishim), some took to brainwashing others to force them to do things they would never choose to because they were bad (Naomi), they installed a militaristic, undemocratic, terrifying order whereby anyone using their own mind and not following orders expected to be taken away to Heaven for an ass-reaming (season 4).
This doesn’t seem right, just, what any of the every day Angels want, this is a few Angels taking control and forcing the others to submit through rigorous and systematic brainwashing, enforced control, fear and gaslighting.
Hm. Let’s stop there with the real world morals, let’s keep this light. Though, this is clearly what the show is telling us re: the real world. So I’ll just leave that here.
They should be democratic, caring, loving and nurturing. This is what so many Angels have shown us, Castiel obviously, but then Anna, Hannah, Samandriel, even some of the more peripheral Angels. Daniel even loved fishing I mean... I’m drawing in Angel’s love nature visuals and metaphors. Then we have the Dick Angels. Well, yep, they can’t all be good (because again, the show is clearly telling us not all Angels are the same, they are all individuals just as much as Humans are), but that doesn’t make them al bad, not every American who lives under Trump’s reign is like Trump you know, that’s kind of the point. Ahem. Time to overthrow the patriarchy and gain some real democracy and Free Will back. Just saying.
So anyway, Lucifer is the complete epitome of this system, totally undemocratic, a dictator, using threats, fear and manipulation to gain control.
He hail’s himself King of the bland ass throne room.
Whoopedy-do. It’s so cringe. But it’s supposed to be. My dude, Just No. This is the epitome of the meme “I don’t want that”.
This is a complete visual metaphor for the options that face Heaven’s host, for what the Angels should be and what they (most of them) want to be:
1. a visually beautiful garden: life, nurturing, choice and positivity eg:
This is where Daniel escaped to from Heaven:
This is where Hannah makes her “good” choice:
And nature is often a symbol of rebirth...
Versus what is completely negative:
2. a visually sterile throne room: fear, manipulation and negativity
also noticeable when Lucifer was in Heaven in season 11...
The Garden is framed as lush, verdant and beautiful, something to be strived for.
The 13x13 throne room scene is laughably cringe worthy, with 6 poor sad looking Angels in an empty sterile room that screams teenage school play amateurism.
“The tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil” - Genesis 2: 9-14.
Good v Evil. A choice.
I have long said the Angels have a choice to make, individually and together. To take back their true form, to regain their true identity, to overthrow the oligarchic militaristic, brainwashing (previously) and now dictatorial patriarchy. Their endgame is to (re)become the democratic, open, positive, loving Angels they were always supposed to be and always wanted to be, save for a few bad eggs brainwashing and manipulating the rest.
It’s time for the Angels to gain their Free Will, to choose love instead of hate, to choose to do as their father asked of them, to love Humanity and not be jealous of them, to care for them and not call them mud monkeys and act as though they’re beneath them, and all these things will lead them to their own happiness because “Good begets Good”.
I will never cease to love the moral messages of this show. They’re everywhere. They’re there from the pilot in small doses and then running in it’s veins throughout the whole thing, an underlying current leading towards every character and every group of characters’ endgames.
I’m so here for the garden to become this again for the Angels’ endgame
Cas, by the way, is the catalyst. He is the Angels Messianic figure. He who guided their way and will liberate them, thus also liberating him of the guilt he has harboured for the pain he has inflicted on them in the past. He who will is the Jesus mirror for the Angels. He who will show all just how much he loves Humanity (in all senses, yes) as a role model and example to the Angels, most of whom will of course choose to remain Angelic but to love Humanity and embrace their own Freedom, Democracy and Free Will in their own way, in a positive way, in the way they always wanted to be.
They will finally be liberated.
(Oh and @bluestar86 won - 39 to 40 points :p)

and I’ll yell with you 🫶🫶
my thing is, the specific cycle of abuse in Supernatural is fathers using their sons as tools for personal means, making them into weapons and all that. John did it to Sam and Dean, Chuck did it to Lucifer and Michael and Castiel and every other angel, and it’s repeated in the similar vein of Sam and Dean being vessels. Sam and Dean also incidentally did it to Jack by way of the “inter-dimensional can opener” thing and even AU Bobby has a turn when he only accepts Jack into the camp after seeing the kid’s firepower against other angels.
but on Jack’s paternal side specifically, the cycle seems to not only be one of weaponization, but of usurpation and power hunger as well. Chuck uses Lucifer as a tool to seal away Amara and assume total omniscient authority, then uses Michael as a tool to seal away Lucifer (again, for authority). Lucifer then uses both Sam and Jack as tools for his own grabs at power, via a vessel for the apocalypse and consuming Jack’s grace, and without going into the absolute depths of it for the sake of time and an ongoing headache, Sam and Dean repeat the cycle again when using Jack as a weapon to free themselves from Chuck via the cosmic kamikaze plan (which fails in the initial sense, but Jack does go on to then usurp Chuck and his power).
And then there’s the free will part of it all. Sam and Dean didn’t want to be hunters avenging their mother or vessels to start the Apocalypse. Cas doesn’t want to be a blind soldier aiding in the start of the Apocalypse, and Jack didn’t want to be an all-powerful messiah figure; his arc very much focuses on identity, as he’s naturally more human and like his mother than was expected, but still retains archangelic traits from Lucifer because that’s just how genetics work, even with biblical abominations. I know it’s already in the tags but Jack is shown numerous times to want to be more human; when Lucifer insults humans, he very agitatedly responds “My mother was human,” and later on says “I’m human, too.”
And when he’s dying, he says “Since I’ve been born, everyone’s assumed I’d be this special person that goes on forever. Only now it looks like it might be a couple of weeks. What I know is I’m done being special, and before my life is over, I wanna actually live it.” And then his idea of actually living is a rattle-off of mundane human experiences, like getting bored and going to hockey games. And how does his story end? He becomes a special person that goes on forever. He’s not living as he wanted to. And to make it all the worse, the entire plot leading up to him becoming God is driven by his own suicidal ideation and guilt.
Jack was never supposed to replace Chuck in Billie’s plan. He was turned into a bomb to detonate and kill the three of them, and when it goes wrong as it always does, when he detonates in the Empty instead of his ancient relatives’ faces, he’s completely lost. He tells Cas he was ready to die and that he wanted to die as atonement for everything he’s done. Cas tells him he doesn’t need absolution or a purpose to be loved, but that is rendered entirely null by him being weaponized against Chuck yet again in 15x19.
And that’s not even going into the whole destiny thing of it all. Team Free Will is explicitly founded on the rejection of destiny, and as the 2.0 addition to it, Jack tracks with his rejection of Lucifer’s purpose for him and the rejection of being a “special person” coveted by Heaven and Hell. But then in S15 Cas is weirdly adamant that Jack follow his destiny of becoming the second plane to hit the cosmic sibling towers, and as we know Jack fulfills it, which renders it null again because this is another cycle left perpetuated.
I don’t fully keep up with the Orphic egg theory mainly because it’s difficult to process for some reason, but whatever it entails about destiny and free will and cycles just falls short to me because of the show’s canon and my own feelings about Jack in general, so I can’t agree that this was a good ending for him even out of courtesy, but despite my vehement essay I do respect your outlook :D
Jack is fine. Not a damn thing wrong with him. Only people too attached to tragedy, or not understanding his arc. Sweetpea is SPN’s version of Phanes.
Learning is fun!
#sincerely hope this didn’t come off as mean or anything like that I am just extremely autistic and passionate about my opinions#also sincerely hope I don’t sound pretentious with my wording . I read Wikipedia as a child with undiagnosed hyperlexia#and it changed me forever sadly#srb#jack kline#he’s just so very human and it hurts me a lot

Kripke: Family (as a source of trauma)
Sam and Dean’s brotherhood and the dichotomy of loving your brother while also disagreeing with him on almost everything at a fundamental level.
Azazel fostering a group of special children to serve in his holy war, and John raising Sam and Dean as soldiers for his holy war.
Filial piety taken to the extreme where any agency is given up. Meg’s blind faith in Azazel and then Lucifer, and Michael’s blind faith in following through with God’s plan for the end.
John Winchester’s legacy of hate and revenge being passed down to his children, Sam and Dean.
Dean, Cas, and Micheal and the consequences of absentee fathers and their sons hopelessly trying to gain approval from them.
Found family that helps emotionally support each other with team free will Sam, Dean, Bobby, and Cas vs the toxicity of the family you are born to. Similar parallel to fate vs free will.
Gamble: Identity (roles we assume vs our authentic self)
Souls as the fundamental particle that establishes our internal compass, but also capable of being lost or weaponized.
Assuming a role at the cost of being authentic:
Dean and Lisa where Dean tries to be a better father to Ben than John was to him
Cas as God where Cas tries to be a better God than the father he never met
Sam as soulless where Sam tries to be a better hunter than John, Dean, or the Campbells ever had been
And Leviathan becoming better capitalists than humans (authentic chameleons that live their best life by assuming whatever form let’s them be the most effective predator)
Carver: Oppression (being a hero to some makes you a villain to everyone else & the only force strong enough to cure oppression is love or total annihilation of the oppressors)
Abuse of power at all levels: Hell, Heaven, Earth
Monsters are shown to be morally complex and an oppressed population
The MoL is a defunct organization of humans that oppressed monsters.
Sam and Dean as the inheritors of the MoL legacy of oppression. They are never redeemed and carry on killing monsters until the end of the series.
Cain saves his brother Abel from damnation, but the cost doomed millions. His only escape was conquering the mark because of the love of one woman.
Naomi overriding the free will of angels by reprogramming them to keep them kowtowed to her agenda for heaven. Cas is able to conquer Naomi’s reprogramming because of the love of one man.
Metatron ejects the angels of Heaven forcing them to live among the people heaven has oppressed in the name of God. The show frames Metatron as a hero and a villain because good and evil can be subjective.
Rowena as the narcissistic mother that sees Crowley as a failure because of her own failings, and attempts to emotionally manipulate and influence his role as king of hell. Eventually Rowena is redeemed by developing genuine love for her son and team free will.
Styne family as a dynasty of white supremacists trying to make a race of superior humans. Their reign of oppression ends with their annihilation by Dean.
Sam clings to faith and hope in a righteous God even though he has suffered his whole life. Sam’s relationship to faith is never resolved through the end of the series.
Light oppressing the Darkness. God’s only sister was kept entombed by her only brother. Love for each other was the only force strong enough to stop their suffering.
Dabb: Fuck if I know???? (Cw: racism, suicide ideation, rape, incest) Dabb era is the most racist era of a very racist show. Other eras were problematic, but at least they attempted to tell a story based on an interesting theme. I cannot, for the life of me, come up with a theme for Dabb that the season wide plots feed into (calling it plot is a misnomer because there really is none in s12-s15, that shit cannot be consumed serially).
Destiel is shamelessly queerbaited, because Dabb has found that the queer and queer ally portion of fandom responds favorably to these crumbs.
BMoL as oppressive but now also British, and a new bunch of white people are added to the cast, because in the Spn universe Britain is solely populated by white people.
Lucifer keeps appearing to antagonize the protagonists, even though his relevance as a legitimate antagonist ended 7+ seasons ago.
Lucifer rapes a woman by posing as her lover. This results in the birth of the Messiah and death of the woman. No one ever seeks justice for Kelly, instead they endlessly obsess over her fetus.
The actor cast as Jack, the Messiah, is yet another white person in a cast full of white people.
Alternate universes are found that are like the main universe but way more boring.
Crowley is killed because Dabb is out of ideas for the character.
Sam and Dean are only interested in finding a way back to the apocalypse universe because their mom got stuck there. They express no desire to find a way back to help the universe where humans are being exterminated. They have completely given up on altruism and are living it up as privileged white people in their bunker mansion.
Black archangel Michael is villainized and loses any of the moral complexity that white archangel Michael exhibits.
Kevin Tran (one of the few recurring PoC), reappears in the Apocalypse universe just to blow himself up as a suicide bomber.
Archangel Gabriel was being kept imprisoned by Colonel Sanders who moonlights as a prince of hell. Does any of this mini arc impact the overall narrative? No. Just more white men added to the story because Dabb can’t figure out where to take the franchise.
Mary Winchester is fridged, yet again, by another yellow eyed supernatural being, so a singular family member can go into a vindictive rage about it.
Canon bisexual God is villainized. I would say for plot reasons, but I have yet to discover anything in s15 resembling a plot.
Main universe Kevin Tran (who sacrificed everything to devote his short life to helping Sam and Dean) reveals that God sent him to Hell all those years ago. Kevin is then doomed to wander Earth as a ghost until he goes insane. At which point, white guy Sam is probably going to kill him sending him back to suffer for eternity in Hell.
Billie, a black woman, becomes Death, a primordial entity and a stronger force than God (will reap God in the end). She is villainized and killed by white men for being committed to keeping the universe in balance and adhering to the natural order. No one seeks justice for her.
W*ncest is shamelessly baited because Dabb has found the portion of fandom that prefers bros as soulmates responds favorably to these crumbs.
Romanticizing suicide in a meta attempt to inform viewers that this show has lived past its useful shelf life and keeping it alive is a punishment to be endured.
Spn Prequel: ??? Not to jinx the prequel but at least it should not be worse than Dabb era.
