The new edition season of Necromunda takes the action to the genestealer-infested Under-Underdark Underhells of Hive Secundus - and what a hideous collection of xenos freaks are these!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Spyrer Orrus Hunters have received a similarly grotesque glow-up, trading in their classic strongman suits for more obviously off-world equipment requiring voluntary dismemberment to operate. I like the minor xenos vibe these new suits give off, but I don't think they're meant to be t'au tech anymore.
Tumblr media
And just in case you didn't already hate assembling Van Saar gangers, the new Tek Hunters look to be every bit as fiddly as the core kit and then some.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meanwhile, the brood scum are... brood scum. Nothing really special, just new heads on the extant hive scum bodies. Good use of the range, especially as they already looked like Genestealer Cult neophytes minus the cult medallions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A strong value proposition, overall - although the most interesting part of this preview, for me, is the promise of new Zone Mortalis ruins coming at a future date.

Idea
There is a sense that architecture has been carried by our growth as children; the escalation of scale from an infant to a model citizen. Its task is often encumbered by modern values but its true appreciation can be seen in the analysis of the Acropolis. From humble beginnings; almost on the edge, The Temple of Athena Nike stands as the icon of perfection that assumes the source for the dialogue between its neighbouring parts. It becomes the object of alignment to the sectional development of The Propylea, leading to the plateau of the clouds.
At first glance, from the ascent there is an issue of scale ahead, while Nike and The Propylea are similarly sized extensions of itself. To the left stands the Erechthion, supported by its archaeology and while bigger than the orders of the ascent, offers a reverse view of the source while drawing the point out of the figure of the Caryatid.
To the right, the bigger of the two, stands The Parthenon, harbouring its solution to the latest prime number of intent and of a scale that exasperates the cosmos returning to the directional progression of The Propylea. This plateau is now adjusted to accommodate the cultural change in Greece and serves opinion that architecture will never change but will only get more wiser and more beautiful.

STUPID ARCHITECTURE TRIVIA EXCHANGE! Tag you're it!
Oooh I sent you some in your inbox BUT I always have more!!
If I remember correctly, the Sydney Opera House was super complicated to build, and Jorn Utzon was going way over budget and over time, because it’s a damn complicated structure. But he received one (1) piece of criticism from the Prime Minister at the time and fucking quit. Just absolutely rage quit the project. Obviously it eventually got finished but like. What would you even do at that point.
Also, one of my favorite architectural features are caryatids! I just think they’re neat. :D
Tumblr media
Like we COULD make this a regular column, but instead we decided to make it a whole sculpture that is ALSO a column. Really going above and beyond, I love it

Ask to Cicero: Salve! First of all, I'm a big fan of yours. That you don't receive that much fan mail nowadays is a shame. But many have to translate your speeches in school, so you are definitely not forgotten...oh wait, maybe the whole school-thing could be the reason you're losing fans. Anyways...my question for you: If you could live now, 2021, what would you absolutely want to do/see/...?
✨appears in a puff of smoke✨The Sibyl: Here’s that pompous buffoon’s reply. I told him that this kind of response is exactly why he doesn’t get any fan mail anymore, but then he went off on one so I took his answer and left. I eagerly await his 14 books of invectives against me when I get back to the Underworld. Anway, here’s the message. Can I go now?  ✨disappears in a puff of smoke✨
Cicero: It is indeed a great pleasure, let me say, to receive a message from the mortal world after all this time when it seems that – o woe! – the people of your age seem to no longer have any time to spare a thought for those who lived before them and to appreciate their contribution, nay, genius, which I feel I can humbly say I gifted to the world over the course of my long and, let it be said, tumultuous life. O what an age you must live in when my words, timeless records of the thoughts and deeds of so many great men, are merely a cause of boredom for the intellectually-stunted schoolchild! Did I turn my eloquence against so many a monster, against such great tyranny, so that the people of a future age should spend their time huffing and groaning over the elaborately crafted architecture of my phrasing? Let me say, however, that all does not seem to be lost. That my voice still speaks out above the clamour of all men who came after me, minds almost as great as my own yet to come into the light of the world, that my efforts are still remembered over the centuries is, needless to say, a source of great solace, dare I say joy, to me, one that oversteps the hasty wrath of ambitious men who sought to end my days because I dared to stand in the way of their kingly ambitions.
But I digress – let me now turn my eloquence to answering your question. I have no doubt that your age is one which I would find entirely unfamiliar since, even in my lifetime, I watched the Rome of old crumble before my eyes, despite my best efforts to uphold the power of the Senate like one of the noble caryatids supporting the pediment of the great Parthenon. With me died the Republic I loved. And so, dear reader, I would dearly love to see that in 2021, the pillars of reason and order have been rebuilt by those seeking to continue in the path I laid out, just as the Pompeys of my days sought to emulate the Alexanders of old. No greater boon could be granted to me in my death.
I would also be keen to try my hand at politics again, to show the world, as indeed I am certain I would, that I still have the knack of leading the hearts and minds of men and to relive in a new age my great consulship. I have no doubt that I would make a terrific President or Prime Minister.
And finally, dare I mention it, I would quite like a JSTOR subscription and some tweed suits.

Essays on the american revolution Project MUSE - Essays on the American Revolution
These eight original essays by a group of America's most distinguished scholars include the following themes: the meaning and significance of the Revolution; the long-term, underlying causes of the war; violence and the Revolution; the military conflict; politics in the Continental Congress; the role of religion in the Revolution; and the effect of the war on the social order. Essays on the american revolution. This is the product of the celebrated Symposium on the American Revolution held in 1971 by the institute. Originally published 1973. A UNC Press Enduring Edition -- UNC Press Enduring Editions use the latest in digital technology to make available again books from our distinguished backlist that were previously out of print. These editions are published unaltered from the original, and are presented in affordable paperback formats, bringing readers both historical and cultural value. The difference between religious and secular usage is important to observe. Religious and Secular. The Umayyad palaces of the inland Levant, such as Mushattâ and Khirbat al-Mafjar, show that the art of the early Muslims was not entirely devoid of figural imagery ( Mushattâ, triangle A; Small apsed room, Bath Hall, Khirbat al-Mafjar; Caryatid in Bath Hall entry, Khirbat al-Mafjar ). It was early religious art and architecture, monuments such as the Dome of the Rock or the Great Mosque of Damascus ( Dome of the Rock, interior of the octagonal arcade, pier 5; mosaic in W arcade, Great Mosque of Damascus ), that were without figural representation. The sharp difference between these two sets of monuments is not some peculiarity of Umayyad culture, peculiar though Umayyad taste may at times seem to us. Except for particularly repressive periods and the damage caused by the actions of zealots, figural representation has always been a part of secular art in the Islamic world. The twentieth century is no exception. Even the most reactionary religious regimes display in public photographs of people, particularly religio-political leaders; and when a Persian mob sacked the Moroccan embassy in Tehran in 1986 in the name of religion (the Israeli Prime Minister having just visited Rabat) photographs of King Hasan were burned along with Moroccan flags while photographs of Persian leaders were brandished at the television news cameras. I found a somewhat less charged though not quite so apt example in Algiers, which experienced a heavy dose of Westernization during its time under French rule between 1830 and 1962. Since independence many colonial buildings, particularly churches, have been put to new uses. The former Church of St. Charles in Algiers has been so converted (to a mosque, I believe), and Figure 36 ( Algiers, mutilated capital of porch of former Church of St.... View more ...

Greece wants Parthenon Marbles back, Tsipras tells May
ATHENS (Reuters) – Greece wants the Parthenon Marbles back from the British Museum, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said in London on Tuesday, trying to reinvigorate a longstanding campaign for the 2,500-year-old treasures.
The Parthenon Marbles, a collection of stone objects, inscriptions and sculptures, also known as the Elgin Marbles, are displayed at the British Museum in London October 16, 2014. REUTERS/Dylan Martinez
British diplomat Lord Elgin removed the sculptures from the Acropolis in Athens in the early 19th century when Greece was under Ottoman rule. They comprise roughly half of the 160-metre-long frieze that was on the Parthenon temple.
Since independence in 1832, Greece has repeatedly requested their return, without success.
Tsipras, who was on his first official visit to London since he was elected in 2015, said the issue is of particular ethical importance for Greeks and he raised the matter when he met his British counterpart Theresa May.
“The Marbles belong to the world cultural heritage but their natural place is the Parthenon,” he told reporters.
Britain has resisted campaigns for the return of what it calls the Elgin Marbles along with treasures from other countries including Nigeria and Ethiopia, often citing legislation that bans its museums from permanently disposing of their collections.
Greece has stepped up its campaign since 2009 when it opened a new museum at the foot of the Acropolis hill, saying this answered any suggestion that Athens lacks a suitable place to preserve the marbles.
The museum hosts priceless relics from the Acropolis, including the Caryatids, standing columns in female form. There is space for one of the six missing figures, on display at the British museum.
In 2014, a previous Greek government hired a legal team including human rights lawyer Amal Clooney to advise it on its bid to secure the return of the marbles.
“We know Britain’s position but what has a particular value is that this effort is continued,” Tsipras said. “In due course, we’ll find increasingly more supporters of Greece’s just stance.”

The European countries are merely adjusting sooner because they've been shoveling the goodies into the general public trough for longer, and with more shovels. Flame seedless grape, the second most popular seedless grape, compared to Thompson's seedless, deep pink in coloration, spherical with a pleasant crunch and a sweet-tart style steadiness. Head to Paradise Beach Bar, located proper on the beach between the palm bushes. Symi city is where virtually all the lodging is discovered, since in its heyday within the nineteenth century, when Symi grew wealthy on the proceeds of shipbuilding and sponge-diving, the Symiots constructed their imposing three-storey homes nearly exclusively within the town. Only a few thousand years ago, rainforests covered about 12% of the worlds land surface, round 15.5 million km2, (6 million sq miles). Later I used that reality in "The Bourne Determine." When certainly one of my characters wished to get away, he joined the boat folks in the Caribbean. Because of the harsh economic local weather in past years many emigrated from their Greek homeland all around the world to countries as numerous as Australia, South Africa, Argentina, North America and many others. It is all the time really useful journey to Greece not as tourist; it is higher to decorate alike local people not like foreigners. Greek civilization developed on a rocky, mountainous peninsula that juts onto the Mediterranean Sea from southeastern Europe, and on the Islands in the close by sea. You possibly can take ferry boat rides to nearby islands reminiscent of Tilos and Symi. And while it appears to contradict Einstein's particular relativity, which says nothing can travel quicker than mild, it's extra doubtless that entanglement challenges our ideas of what distance and time actually mean. Finally, for the snowboarding lovers, keep in mind that mainly in Spain and Italy you'll have the chance of nice skiing alternatives, Cruise lovers will get their greatest in Greece touring across the islands, or just taking a Mediterranean cruise that can discover the three countries and even Turkey in the identical bundle. Except you might be planning to go and discover the outskirts, attempt to keep away from cabs and rental automobiles as the visitors of the town will eat lots of your time sitting like a duck within the taxi. Additional east in Plaka, the Monument of Lysikrates was built by an 'angel' who funded the play that gained prime prize in 334 BC. It later passed into the hands of Capuchin friars who hosted Lord Byron; one other Lord, Elgin needed to take the monument to London but was thwarted this time by the friars. Certainly, to make the most of an overused time period - when it comes to real estate, Greece is hot. As soon as one is immersed in a Scorching Tub and as you begin to enjoy the warm spa water, it causes two very beneficial physiological occasions to take place in your physique. This place may be, to a sure extent, used for an academic journey together with your kids at the toes of nature at its greatest. In the future we went to the Athinas Avenue food market, which was fairly an expertise. It has good roads on the northern side and many archaeological sites to go to and enjoy. These are simply few of the popular the explanation why individuals journey. No matter season you choose, there are greater than sufficient sights to supply a great European holiday. cheap hotels gloucester A pair of denims, just a few t-shirts, a superb looking comfortable carrying shoe and one other pair of comfy footwear must be taken in the bag for snug movement. In Belguim there is, of course, the well-known Spa the place where the very phrase "Spa" comes from then in England you may have Bath so aptly named. We will start with arguably the most surprising one, the Museo Nazionale della Magna Grecia (The National Museum of Higher Greece), a vital archeological museum. Bushes can live to an age of roughly 60 years and develop to about 60 feet tall at maturity. In these exhausting occasions of global meltdown and inflation, spending capacity of individuals has witnessed a pointy nostril-dive. Consider historic Rome, Greece, Modern day China, America. Since taking snapshots are part on the celebration of each event, you may make use of it. You may have these snapshots digitally imaged and print them afterwards. Bloomingdales is renowned for its all-day Sunday parties held often all year long. Now what's the one thing that these Scorching Spring Spas from the past do not have - it is of course an electric Air Blower (in spite of everything in days of previous electrical energy had not been discovered) which is usually fitted on many modern day spas. It was reconstructed nicely over one hundred years ago by individuals who didn't know what they had been doing. The white walnut tree is the most cold hardy of all walnut trees, rising vigorously in zones three-9. There are a number of exceptional panels of the Parthenon frieze that Lord Elgin forgot, and the air pollution-scarred Caryatids. The individuals of every plain and island formed an independent neighborhood known as a metropolis-state. There are numerous good Greek journey guides accessible to detail the quite a few sites to visit. While volley ball and tanning are standard by day, sundowners and impromptu seaside events are on from early evening to properly previous midnight. Acropolis & New Acropolis Museum
Tumblr media
So. The temperature was pretty high on Thursday, when we went to Salamis, but on Friday, the temp was supposed to reach 44 Celsius - something like 112F. And so... we left the hotel around 7:45am to go to the Acropolis for our hike to the top. We used the southeast entrance, which was different from the one I used 30 years ago and meant that we hiked right past the Theatre of Dionysius, the Stoa of Eumenes, and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.
Speaking of Herodes Atticus... We met him when we were at Marathon, remember? He’d actually built an Egyptian temple at Marathon. And he’d also built a Roman bathhouse there. So, in Greece, we had a little bit of Rome and Egypt. The Odeon at bears his name on the southern slope of the Acropolis was dedicated to his wife, who died after he kicked her while she was pregnant. (He probably got the idea from Nero, who did the same thing.) He was acquitted of all charges.
Tumblr media
The first place one passes when reaching the top of the Acropolis (which is the name for the whole area vs. any of the temples), is the Propyleia, or the ceremonial gate.
Tumblr media
In Byzantine times, the Propyleia was used for a variety of purposes, including a palace for various rules, including the archbishop of the See of Athens. One of the late 12th century archbishops, Michael Choniates, was passionate about Classical Athens! His first sermon in Athens was, according to historians, more suited to the denizens of Golden Age Athens than it was the present residents.
One of the most amazing sights on the Acropolis is the Erechtheum’s Porch of the Caryatids:
Tumblr media
The olive tree you can see to the far left of the temple was planted relatively recently, but thousands of years ago, Athena made an olive tree grow at the spot during the competition with her uncle, Poseidon, for patronship of the city. Coins of the time might have included an owl, the symbol of Athena, the goddess of wisdom, and an olive branch.
Realizing that it was silly to think I could avoid wandering around the top of the mountain in the direct sunlight, I headed away from the Erechtheum toward the Parthenon, the quintessential Greek temple. During my circumnavigation of the Parthenon, I was able to take some great photos of it as well as other structures, including the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Arch of Hadrian, AND one of the pediment structures left by Lord Elgin in the early 1800s when he stripped the rest of them from the temple and took them to London where they can be seen today in the British Museum.
Tumblr media
Probably ruins of the Stoa of Eumenes, between the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and Theatre of Dionysius.
Tumblr media
The Arch of Hadrian, east of the Acropolis.
Tumblr media
The Temple of Olympian Zeus, the largest temple in Greece.
Oh! I forgot! Here is the Areopagus, the sight not only of high-profile trials, including Miltiades’ trial after Marathon, but also the location of St. Paul’s sermons to the Athenians.
Tumblr media
I also photographed the Agora from the Acropolis, priming for the next day!
Tumblr media
We left the Acropolis to meet one of our lecturers at the NEW Acropolis Museum. When they broke ground for the building, they discovered a slew of Archaic sites and so, rather than finding a new location for the museum, they built the museum over it. One can walk over these ruins and see them, for the floors are made of heavy-duty glass.
One is not allowed to photograph the artifacts in the first few galleries, but I was able to photograph a bunch of others, including the ORIGINAL Caryatids! (I love their hair!)
Tumblr media
One of the museum’s “logo” pieces is the Pensive Athena. Isn’t it lovely! She’s wearing a Corinthian helmet, a symbol of her prowess in battle.
Tumblr media
The bull just really struck me as darling! OK, so he was probably sacrificed, but, well, there it is.
Tumblr media
The bull (above) and the metope below can be found on the top floor of the museum where the metopes and pediments and friezes of the Parthenon are replicated or displayed as if they were still on the temple itself.
Tumblr media
We had free time after we were finished at the Acropolis Museum, so I toddled off to the Hard Rock Cafe, which is located not all that far from the entrance to the Agora. As I ambled down the hill, I saw the tower below and realized that I was walking right past the Tower of the Winds, which is part of the Roman Agora, which was built after Rome took Athens (1st century BCE or so).
Tumblr media
In addition to the Tower of the Winds, which was a clock as well as other things, there were several other structures, including the Library of Hadrian. Hadrian was a confirmed Hellenophile. He’d been educated in Athens, as had other kings, and had viewed Athens as his second home.
Tumblr media
I ordered a Purple Haze at the Hard Rock. And damn... IT WAS DELICIOUS! After a while, I moseyed back to the hotel, satisfied with my day of touring. It’s actually very surprising that I survived all the trekking around, climbing, and other strenuous activities. I may have ended each day with swollen ankles, but it was good edema. :>) Cheers!

five essays on islamic art Aniconism and Figural Representation in Islamic Art, by Terry Allen
The cycles could have been intended to refer to the contents of the vessels on which they occur, or they could have been meant to glorify the owner or user of the vessel by glorifying the vessel itself. Five Essays on Islamic Art. Aniconism and Figural Representation in Islamic Art. Copyright 1988 by Solipsist Press. If Islamic art is an outgrowth of Late Antique art that does not mean that Islamic art is only late Late Antique art, or even that most of Late Antique art survives in Islamic art. The most obvious difference between the two is the lack of figural representation in Islamic religious art and a shift in the use of figural representation in secular art in the Islamic world.
