Tumblr media
I can now post the Slow Dance piece I made (and definitely didn’t finish the morning of) for Rainbow at her LA signing last night! It was so lovely to not only meet Rainbow, but to also meet and spend time with so many fandom friends 🥹
Full confession that I haven’t read the book yet cause I got it last night, but I refuse to let something like not reading stop me. And naturally, I had to sneak Simon and Baz in there.

WIP ASK ME GAME
Tumblr media
Thanks @bitbybitwrites for the tag. Like many, I am always down to clown about my WIPs.
I just have so many of them, so I am only going to talk about the ones I am focusing on. RIP to the many others who are in the far away ward in my WIP Hospital.
Under the cut because I ramble:
Partially published WIPs:
February Friday Event 2024 - Radio Silence (Alice Oseman)
Only one chapter is up. This is just a collection of 4 short fics that are set in post-canon of Radio Silence. They're based on the prompts from the February Friday Event. 2 of the 3 remaining chapters are partially written, but not finished. One will be about Carys and her thoughts on Universe City. The other is about friendship, but Carys and Aled are once again reminded by how badly their childhood was for them.
Ljubili se - Glee
MY BABY. This is the sequel to Ljubim te, the fic where Kurt and Blaine meet in Ljubljana. Now they're back in America and long-distance, with Blaine being in LA and Kurt in NY. My main reason for being stuck is admittedly that it's getting too ambitious and I need to figure out how to tell a coherent sequel. It's quite difficult, because Ljubim te was written without a sequel in mind and without much space to do more, but I love this world I made so here I am anyway.
Dancin' on that bamboo ceiling - Glee
A series of standalone fic that explore Asian identity and casual racism in glee. I've been working on and off on it for years and I have published some. But I really want to finish more. Right now I have a story about traditional dress and feeling removed from your heritage in my mind.
The Sarah Jane Adventures Extended Universe (SJAEU) - The Sarah Jane Adventures
Yes, my SJAEU is back on my mind. It's a spin-off of the Sarah Jane Adventures (which is in itself a Doccy Whomst spin-off) and it focuses on Luke after he left Bannerman Road and well, my unofficial title is Luke's Big Gay Oxford Adventures. The thing I posted is an overview of the AU, but I have been cooking up actual fics that are set in this AU since 2017 and they're simmering again.
Not published WIPs:
Just Some Guy - Carry On
Also known as MCD! It's the seven years of Simon and Baz's rivalry (and eventual romance) from the perspective of an outsider who has absolutely nothing to do with it. After all, it must be fucking wild for Watford students to see this wacky enemy to lovers. Matty Chris D. is the blandest person you'll ever meet, which is also why I am stuck. Go Matt, give us nothing.
Untitled TOTK-inspired Snowbaz fic - Carry On
This was marinating in my brain recently. Not sure I will get back to it soon, but hey, it's on my mind! As the "title" suggests, it's a Tears of the Kingdom inspired Snowbaz fic, which takes place after Wayward Son. The gang is back from America to find floating islands in the sky of the World of Mages. 7 years after their return, and 7 years after Simon went missing, Baz decides to find a way to the sky islands in order to find Simon. I don't wanna brag, but this idea slaps and I should get back to it.
Glee x Sense8 crossover idea - Glee and Sense8
I came up with a Glee x Sense8 crossover years ago and this is also back again on my mind. Just like the SJAEU, it's more of a concept with some overall thoughts than an actual coherent fic. It's back in my 2024 vision because, hey, I posted the SJAEU, I could possible post my Glee x Sense8 AU on AO3, because I think it's pretty cool. And yes, it's a crossover, not an inspired by thing. The Glee part is entirely an AU, but the Sense8 part is post-canon where the BPO has reformed, so that the sensates can figure out their shit in peace. And also, Puck from Sense8 will show up at one point. Two Pucks in one fic (because Puck from Glee is one of the sensates).
Anyway I have many more WIPs, like the Zimbits time travel one, or the Glee x Carry On crossover (begone Klaine and Snowbaz, Blaz OTP!) and UGH so many WIPs. If you wanna send me an ask about any of these WIPs, feel free.
Also, I think @bitbybitwrites already spread this in the Glee world, so let me spread it to the Carry On world by tagging @cutestkilla @artsyunderstudy @wellbelesbian @martsonmars @larkral @nightimedreamersworld @blackberrysummerblog @bookish-bogwitch @facewithoutheart

Mobile (cell) phones in Supernatural
I think one of the best things in supernatural is seeing how the mobile (cell) phones progress. If I rewatch episodes of the earlier seasons it just makes me realise how far technology has come. 😂

Should've Read the Warning Label (Alternate title: Should've Read the Fine Print) [Take your pick]
send me a fake title and i’ll tell you what i’d write for it
spn verse demon backstory - how yuri plisetsky became a demon and why viktor sold his soul
considering the fact that i plan on Actually writing this, i can’t really give too many details here, but they are not connected even if they take place at similar times.
this is such a vague answer but. spn verse. yuri and viktor. and i guess that’d bring in yakov and nikolai.
it’s gonna be written eventually.
they’re not very good at listening to all of the directions of demons, long story short.
viktor wants something, the demons want him. yuri gets caught up in it all far more than he ever meant to.

Summer 2020′s Movies - My Top Ten Favourite Films (Part 1)
20.  THE OUTPOST – it’s been a great year for war movies already, but summer was definitely where the genre really blew up, showering a TRIO of crackers on us, starting with this intensely rugged actioner about the Battle of Kamdesh in 2009 Afghanistan, in which a small group of American soldiers fought against an overwhelming Taliban force in extremely hostile terrain.  Director Rod Lurie (The Last Castle, The Contender) hasn’t had the most impressive career so far, but he shines here, as does a powerful ensemble cast which includes Scott Eastwood, Caleb Landry Jones and Orlando Bloom.
19.  BIT – the first notable feature from indie director Brad Michael Elmore is an enjoyably offbeat little vampire flick in which small-town transgender teen Laurel (Supergirl’s Nicole Maines) moves out to Los Angeles and gets swept up in the strictly girls-only revolution of local head vamp Duke (Goliath’s Dianna Hopper) and her feminist pack. Maines and Hopper are both phenomenal, while Elmore does wonders with his tiny budget and really pays off on his film’s intriguing ideas.
18.  DA 5 BLOODS – Spike Lee’s latest joint must be the most tripped-out and subversive Vietnam War movie since Apocalypse Now, letting his politically-charged mixture of reportage and personal drama run riot with particularly colourful results as we follow a group of ageing black Vets on their journey to retrieve the remains of a fallen comrade and a fortune in illicit gold. The cast are uniformly excellent, particularly Delroy Lindo as traumatised hothead Paul, while there’s a magnificent turn from Chadwick Boseman in one of his final roles.
17.  THE LOVEBIRDS – director Michael Showalter reunites with Kumail Nanjiani, star of his indie hit The Big Sick, for this riotous screwball comedy in which lovers Jibran and Leilani (Nanjiani and Insecure’s Issa Rae) find their faltering relationship tested to breaking point when they’re forced to prove their innocence after being framed for murder by a corrupt cop.  The laughs come thick and fast, but there’s an endearing warmth that adds emotional heft to the story, bolstered by the leads’ palpable chemistry.
16.  UNHINGED – Russell Crowe brings every motorist’s worst nightmare to life as Tom Cooper, a deranged psychopath who harasses struggling divorcee Rachel (Slow West and Mortal Engines’ Caren Pistorius) and her son to increasingly terrifying extremes after one bad day leads to a road-rage misjudgement.  The overblown revenge thriller plot works best if you don’t think about it too much, but the incredibly game cast give their all and director Derrick Borte (The Joneses) keeps the tension cranked up to breaking point.
15.  THE NEW MUTANTS – the last ever Fox-based X-Men movie slumps into cinemas with little fanfare after a series of increasingly lamentable delays with an inevitable sense of Marvel Studios going through the motions out of mere obligation to what was once the franchise that MADE them.  It’s truly criminal treatment because this is a CRACKING film, the property taking an intriguing swerve into horror movie territory as five young mutants trapped in a shadowy government institute are terrorized by their own worst fears.  The Fault in Our Stars’ director Josh Boone shows a surprisingly sure hand with the superheroics AND the scares, but the film really belongs to its uniformly excellent young cast, particularly Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams as shapeshifter Rahne Sinclair and Anya Taylor-Joy as fan favourite Illyana Rasputin.  It’s another worthy mutant-fest, which makes it all the more heartbreaking watching with the knowledge that, now that the X-Men and their ilk have been officially folded into the all-encompassing behemoth of the MCU, it’s the opening chapter of a new franchise we’ll never get to see …
14.  BECKY – ambitious indie directing duo Jonathan Millott and Cary Murnion have been on my ones-to-watch list for a while now (ostensibly after their horror comedy Cooties but mainly thanks to supercharged single-shot action thriller Bushwick), but they’ve really outdone themselves with this left-field survival horror, in which a pack of neo-Nazi prison-breakers led by brutal genius Dominick (a cannily cast-against-type Kevin James) find themselves up against something they never bargained for – Anabelle: Creation star Lulu Wilson’s eponymous, unexpectedly lethal 13 year-old girl.
13.  THE VAST OF NIGHT – despite its far more understated, super-low budget origins, there’s a strong dose of Super 8 in the DNA of this astounding debut from writer-director Andrew Patterson, an intriguingly ambitious first-contact sci-fi thriller set in small town America in the 1950s.  Some Kind of Hate’s Sierra McCormick and newcomer Jake Horowitz are the endearingly sparky core of the film, putting the rich quick-fire screenplay through its paces while Patterson displays uncannily sophisticated flair behind the camera.  I can’t wait to see what he’s going to deliver in the future …
12.  IN SEARCH OF DARKNESS – not just the best feature I’ve watched so far in what’s already been an unusually strong year for documentary films, but one of the best I’ve watched in a good long while, this epic examination of ALL the key horror cinema releases of the 1980s and their enduring cultural impact makes for undeniably engrossing viewing.  Despite clocking in at OVER FOUR HOURS, it never outstays its welcome, with writer-director David A. Weiner’s fascination for the subject proving overwhelmingly infectious.
11.  GET DUKED! – four wayward teenage boys are pursued by gun-toting aristocratic psychopaths in the Scottish Highlands while doing their Duke of Edinburgh Award (well, it was that or Borstal) in this gleefully OTT comedy masterpiece from debuting writer-director Ninian Doff.  One of last year’s major festival hits, it’s an absolute riot, a blissfully unapologetic non-PC laugh-fest powered by a quartet of astonishing turns from its young leads and brilliant support from Eddie Izzard, Kate Dickie and James Cosmo.

30 Days of Carry On - Day 25 and 26
closing in on the end of days now...
25. Favourite book cover design
@annabellelux calls this one identically too - the US paperback cover for ‘carry on’, accept no substitutes.
she also raises some very good points about the ‘wayward son’ cover, viz:  I think Baz’s facial expression is so ????? And Simon’s smirk feels off given the content.
again - i completely agree! now - i would say i overall like the covers anyway because the colour schemes are all beautiful, and simon is beautiful, and baz’s shirt is beautiful, but i have angsted about the downgrade from baz’s floral suit to the shirt before (why?). and even though it’s still kevin wada, i’m sure i’ve said... i dont like how brainless simon looks on the UK cover :/
what i haven’t explicitely said - but probably would say if i ever wrote a formal review of this book - is that the marketing is all wrong, in exactly the way that annabellelux describes. when the wayward son art dropped, people talked about how confident and tanned baz looked, and how capable simon looked - and then when the real wayward son art dropped, it looks like the golden, care-free roadtrip epilogue.
and the name ‘wayward son’ is wrong as well - because ... it says this is a book about simon, whereas rainbow very clearly told us she intended it to be about baz. but simon is the wayward son who flew too high, right?
now - is the marketing wrong, because i have five copies of this book if you count digital and audio editions? i mean - it isn’t. it effectively sold me many books. but it doesn’t tell me what the book is.
i don’t know if would actually have made sense, but i keep thinking about a ‘wayward son’ (leave hte name for a moment) cover that looks more like this... (indigo, endpapers art)
but no fault to find with he american ‘carry on’ paperback. i’ve already talked about how much i love it. i love it.
26. Do you want a movie? If yes - any fan casts for the movie?
yes. even if it was bad, i would want it, because a) it would generate more merchandise (please see my previous post about this) and b) you can’t watch a book. which sounds stupid, but what i mean is - sometimes (often) life is tiring. and you don’t want to do anything as energetic as read. i know we have the audiobook, and i do listen to it, but without visuals my brain thinks - what else could i be doing while i’m listening to this? which is not the point.
so yes - i would like a movie. i have no fancasts, except... cary elwes from twenty years ago as the mage (or gareth thomas - not the rugby player - from even longer ago); hugh grant (obviously) as lamb - and because hugh grant, and because i once called her fifi in something i wrote, kristen scott thomas (twenty years ago too - this is never going to work) as fiona pitch. i’m sure like with harry potter, we could find some great british actors to do walk-on roles as teachers and parents amazingly.
i have no idea who would play our heroes. it’s strongly implied in fangirl that it literally is potter.... but i think we can do better than (the extremely delightful in many ways) daniel radcliffe for simon. thank goodness we don’t need to cast him when he’s 11.
but also - i think my real answer is that i want it to be made into an anime series where every single detail of mundanity is lovingly rendered across 90 episodes of 20 minutes each. so many anime boys look like baz in some way, and i see them and think of him and how pretty he is, like they are, and that makes me think - baz is born for anime. we’d make it work for simon and penny somehow.
All the other days.
