Sun Wukong's assorted lingpai (mandate tokens)
[ID: 1) An illustration of the two sides of a mostly rectangular lingpai made of wood. One side reads "令" and the other reads "弼马温", both written in seal script. The bottom of the lingpai is adorned by horses facing outwards, clouds by their feet.
2) An illustration of the two sides of a stone lingpai shaped mostly like a rectangle, but flared at the top and bottom. One side reads "令" and the other reads "美猴王", both written in seal script. The top of the lingpai is adorned with a dragon-pearl surrounded by flames and clouds. The bottom is adorned with mountains, the sea, and coral. The borders of both the top and bottom are decorated with clouds and flowers. The top is swirled in a way that resembles a lingzhi or a ruyi.
3) An illustration of the two sides of a red jade lingpai, shaped mostly like a rectangle but with a curved top. One side reads "令" and the other reads "齐天大圣", both written in seal script. The top of the lingpai is adorned by a ruyi with a flower and mountain at its center. Below the ruyi is a lotus flower, which sits on top of the forehead of a Yazi carving. Clouds extend out from either side of Yazi and below him are flowers. The two sides of the lingpai have the carvings of cloud pillars wrapped in a stylized waterfall. At the bottom are clouds which could also be the foam from the waterfall. Lotuses float atop this foam/these clouds. At the center of the bottom is a mountain with a ruyi at its foot. This ruyi also has a flower within it.
4) The lineart for the three lingpai, with accompanying commentary. The one labeled "BiMaWen" reads "carved and burned wood," "simple, only horses and clouds," and "ornamental, basically no power." The one labeled "Beautiful Monkey King" reads "carved from a chunk of Sun Wukong's stone egg," "customized from Ao family royal lingpai template," and "mostly sea, cloud, and dragon pearl imagery." The one labeled "Great Sage Equaling Heaven" reads "carved from red jade," "fully custom, in style of an emperor's lingpai but HuaGuo," and "flowers, waterfalls, mountains, ruyi, Yazi, and clouds imagery." At the side are simple doodles of the three lingpai. The first is light brown with a yellow cord, captioned "simple cord, no tassel." The second is grey with a red cord and tassel, captioned "silk cord and tassel." The third is red with a red cord and tassel, captioned "braided cord," "jade and gold accented." End ID]

Viscera/ The Monkey Prince AU
youtube
(Music for the vibe!)
He needed a moment, a moment to breathe. The anger and rage were a raging inferno within him. He knew well enough though, that blind rage could end him swiftly, thus, he reigned it in. If at least for the moment, before he stood, staff gripped in hand, knuckles white as bone. He leapt onto his somersault cloud, shooting off towards where the celestials’ army awaited his confrontation. Seeing them there, armed and ready for battle, sent his blood boiling. He knew the scent of blood and death, but on his mountain? That was a different matter entirely. He started pacing slowly, gaze sharp as serrated blades.
Reign it in. You will get your chance. “My master- safe… The scriptures- sound. All I ever wanted was a life in my mountain, free from you and your so-called ‘merits’.” He mused, adjusting the grip he had on the Ruyi Jingu Bang. Tear the lot of them to bits...
“Those high above don’t trust me. I understand that. And they send you, and those knuckleheads to threaten me to obey and serve once more.” He chuckled humorlessly. “I understand that too.”
Those arrogant, so called gods. He ceased his pacing, body tense like a coiled cobra. “But what I don’t understand…” He suddenly turned, aiming his staff at the army before him. “You bastards killing my kind!” His eyes narrowed as he recalled it. The cadavers strewn about like broken dolls, the metallic tang of blood giving weight to the humid air. The shock and rage, fleeting in the face of something he had not felt in so, so long…
Fear.
Those of the Celestial Court had means to kill immortals, and while knowing this well enough, his mind went to the worst case scenario for his precious successor. He never ran so fast in his life, momentarily forgetting all about his cloud. He found his successor, battered, bruised, and bloody. From the looks of it, for trying to protect the baby monkeys.
For a moment, he had thought he was dead until he held the boy in his arms.
To his immense relief, Xiaotian was alive… chest rising and falling with each shaky breath, heart still beating. He never felt so relieved, and so enraged, at the same time.
Relief that Xiaotian was safe… Anger at who dared to lay a harmful hand against him.
Rip each organ from its cavity.
“…That was a poor enough choice.” He growled, his wrath lacing his voice in pure venom. His grip was like a vice on his staff. If it was normal wood, it would have splintered under the strain.
Flay the skin from their muscles, carve the muscles from their bones. Snap each and every bone.
“But you dared to threaten my successor!”
Butcher them slowly, till they are naught but writhing viscera.
MAKE.
THEM.
SUFFER.
“For that I will make you heavenly bastards know the depths of the hells!”
----------------------
I had so much fun writing my original bits for this >:) As I said in an earlier post. Writing enraged characters is better than therapy.

I was wondering if you have any knowledge on both the Bull Demon King's steed, The Water Repelling Golden Crystal Beast, and his brother the Immortal Ruyi. I read that they both exist in JTTW but I can't find much information about them at all beyond that and I was curious to know more if you knew anything about them?
The Bull Demon King's steed, the "Water-Repelling, Golden-Eyed Beast" (Bishui jinjing shou, 辟水金睛獸; a.k.a. Jinjing shou, 金睛獸, "Golden-Eyed Beast"), appears in chapters 60 and is referenced in chapters 61 and 63. It is never described, and I don't believe that it appears in any other chapters. The only things we know are: 1) It can freely travel through water; 2) It will let anyone ride it. For instance, Sun Wukong hops on it without first magically disguising himself; and 3) It has a carved saddle.
The picture below is just an artist's interpretation. It looks like a mix between a dragon and a lion.

As for the Bull Demon King's brother, the "True Immortal Compliant" (Ruyi zhenxian, 如意真仙), I write about his arc here:

Sun Wukong’s Golden-Ringed Monk’s Staff
Sun Wukong's 13th-century counterpart, the "Monkey Pilgrim" (Hou xingzhe, 猴行者), uses a golden-ringed monk's staff (xizhang, 錫杖) to fight demons. It's shown capable of creating destructive blasts of light, as well as transforming into titanic creatures, including a giant, vajra club-wielding yaksha (likely Vajrapāni) and an iron dragon.
The golden rings would later influence those on the ends of his "As-You-Will Gold-Banded Staff” (Ruyi jingu bang, 如意金箍棒) from the standard edition of Journey to the West.
I wanted to be cool like him, so I acquired this hand-carved, 12-ringed monk's staff from an HK-based Taiwanese seller. The dragons give it an otherworldly feel, something that a mythic hero like Monkey would use. I love it. I hope to get better pictures in the future. These don't do it justice.
The staff is quite heavy given its brass construction, so I imagine this was originally only carried during special holidays and rituals. I unfortunately don't know anything about its history. I was just told by the seller that he acquired it from a private collection. I'd love to know which monastery it originally belonged to.
