Carter’s face off % can’t possibly be enough to make up for his ineptitude elsewhere can it? What does he have on Sullivan that gets him consistent ice time in tough situations like this?
i sat on this for a while because i had a suspicion about something, and my hunch was right.
once our bottom six started getting healthy again and carter got moved down to the fourth line, sully actually has been reducing his ice time. since march 12, the only times he's played more than 10 minutes was against the avs and the red wings, and he's had 15 or fewer shifts in all those same games except the one against the avs.
so! sully can learn. sometimes. maybe.
he still needs to take rust off the top line.

I don't get why people acting like the last three games were not embarrassing until and if you want this team to be better you are a bad fan. Yeah we might be number three in the standings now but if we can't keep a lead how long will that last? How the fuck did this team blow a four goal lead last night????
But I wanted sully be gone for a long time because I don't think he's a good coach. Kiss my ass if you want to call me out about that but this man cannot get us out of the first round. He does not really coach as well out of droughts. He makes baffling line decisions that everyone is talking about right now. He needs to either get his shit together or go. Structure the lines right and bench players when they are playing bad.
Saying that Dumo and Jeff Carter are paying bad is not being a hater its just reality. Lots of people on the team are playing bad right now and it's coming from the coaching staff. I don't get understand why Sullivan is so damn untouchable when Disco Dan was not and we won Cups with both.
I just want another cup before Geno retires so he can be the Russian born player with the most cups. I don't see that happening under Sullivan.

WIP Introduction: With the Assist
Professional superpowered sidekick Carter Sullivan (or Private Freedom, as he’s known professionally) has been at the game for roughly a decade now, but he doesn’t mind avoiding all the attention that comes with being a hero. Sure, he’s nearly twenty-five and still sometimes treated like a kid, but there’s far less pressure being the sidekick—no major world saving expectations, not nearly as many life or death decisions, and far fewer people hounding about his secret identity. Plus, Colonel Justice treats him well, and always has, so things are great!
Well, aside from the significantly lower pay, the fact that work has continuously keeps you from getting your degree, the restrictions from some of P.E.A.C.E.’s resources, and villains directly using you as bait to get to your mentor, things aren’t so bad! Unless you focus a little too much on the obsessive fans, the snide remarks and uncomfortable jokes from the public, and lingering lack of fulfillment from all this time without any career growth…
Okay, maybe it’s not so great. And Sully isn’t the only one feeling it.
With sharply rising rates of insubordination and mental health leave among the sidekick community, P.E.A.C.E. establishes a Sidekicks Anonymous Division—an unregulated, completely sidekick operated group to let them air complaints and grievances about the job. Some suggest this is a bad idea and only going to make the sidekicks needier and whinier, while others believe that this is a step in the right direction and they should continue on to allow mental and emotional support to all heroes.
Of course, the support group isn’t exactly what was imagined. Some come broken up inside, others angry at the Partnership, others just a little stressed out and have nowhere better to be on their weeknights because the job has taken away any possibility of a social life. And one by force, with a looming threat disciplinary probation if he doesn’t get his shit together. Slowly, the support groups falls into four factions: those who want heal, those who want to leave, those who want to go solo, and those who just don’t know what to do.
Genre: New adult superhero fiction
Progress: Outlining/writing a collection of prequel short stories
Goal: Unsure. Publishing maybe? Probably?
Themes: Found family, friendship, moral righteousness
Major Characters:
Carter “Sully” Sullivan, Private Freedom: Sully has had his powers and his current job for just under a decade now, having joined P.E.A.C.E. in his sophomore year of high school, and creeping up on his twenty-fifth birthday. A kind soul, Sully tries earnestly to always do what’s best for the majority, even if that means it puts himself at risk. Even before his powers, this habit proved to be dangerous time and time again, getting him into scrapes he didn’t need to be in, much to his fathers’ dismay. This reached an extreme level when Sully didn’t hesitate before throwing himself in front of a speeding car to save a child. He survived, but barely—and only through the kindness of a stranger who then blessed him with the ability to have strength matching his selflessness.
Andrea “Andi” Bianchi, Ember: Andi is a hothead—literally. She’s always had a temper, and being nineteen, queer, Catholic-raised, and the ability to generate flames from her hands alone certainly adds fuel to the fire. She’s only had her powers for about three years, after contracting an illness that left her insides laced with flame, and she’s steadily working on controlling them...and herself.
Marcus Guerrero, Shadow: Marcus holds to the belief that the only good thing that happened to him was meeting his heroic mentor, who gave him a new start after a shitty first twelve years of his life, and a way to channel all his negative energy. But nine years of fighting crime has taken its toll, and Marcus isn’t half as saved as Glasswing intended. Armed with the ability to shadow travel and the strength of a special ops soldier, Marcus is a force to be reckoned with. But his recent reversion to fits of rage and irrationality makes him has turned public opinion towards the worse, and he is kept within the Partnership only due to Glasswing’s insistence, with the promise that he will keep him under wraps. Because of this, Marcus is sent to support group under the recommendation—or rather force—of his hero.
Juliet Springfield, Oracle: Juliet is trying. She just wanted to get through her senior year with a decent GPA, and maybe even try to figure out what the hell she was going to do with her life. As it turns out, her future is protecting everyone else’s. As it turns out, she’s Apollo’s newest oracle; he won’t specify what happened the the last one, but she can take her guesses. Given her clumsy, anxious nature, she’s not so sure that she can manage to be a sidekick, especially not a good one. And the visions dancing more and more rapidly in her head? Well, they’re far from sugarplums.
Casey Han, Thunder: Casey knows he’s not the youngest person in PEACE, nor the person with the most dangerous power, but that doesn’t mean he resents it any less. The oldest son of two popular heroes, Casey knows he’s expected to follow in their footsteps, but he’s petrified of accidentally zapping someone to death and frankly? He just wants to be a normal fourteen year old. Maybe even go on a date, and do something dumb and reckless with friends. But his parents have taken every step to give him the perfect path to be a top hero and he can’t just shun that.

Sid/Sullivan but it’s that scene from Ant Man and the Wasp*
Sullivan: You got away with it this time, Carter, but I'll be seeing you again.
Sid: Where? Where will you be seeing me again?
Sullivan: In general I'll see you. The next time you... do something bad, I'll be there....to catch you.
Sid: Oh...I thought you were inviting me somewhere.
Sullivan: Why would I do that?
Sid: That's what I was wondering. Why would you do that?
Sullivan: You thought I was inviting you like... to a party? Or dinner or something? No, I meant to, like, arrest you. I'll arrest you later again.
Sid: Take it easy.
Sullivan: Did you want to grab dinner or something? Because, I mean ...Because I'm free...

~ A Girl Like You ~
AN: i’m really missing watching new father brown so i thought i’d finally write for my beloved sid ❤️
Summery: London’s first and only female Detective Inspector moves to Kembleford to get away from the loud, demanding and busy city. She meets an unlikely hero.
Paring: eventually Sid Carter x female!reader
Characters: female!reader, Sid Carter, Father Brown, Mrs McCarthy, train conductor and drunk man. Inspector Sullivan is mentioned.
Warnings: mentions of alcohol, mentions of food, pubs, drunk man being creepy and loads of fluff.
(gif not mine):
You were on the train to Kembleford. You were told you should get out of the city for a while. You? A London girl in the country?
It was a beautiful summer’s day in 1954, you were wearing a beautiful summer dress which was red and had white dots on it.
“Kembleford,” you said thoughtfully, as you looked out the window.
You fiddled with the locket which hung on your neck. Who suggested your break from the city? Your mentor, Inspector Sullivan. He spoke highly of the beautiful village of Kembleford, so who were you to judge?
“Kembleford Station, ladies and gentlemen, this is Kembleford Station,” the train conductor shouted cheerfully.
You smiled and gathered your luggage.
“Miss Y/L/N?” You turned to see a priest, wearing a capello romano hat, glasses and holding an umbrella. By his side stood a kind looking old lady.
“Ah. You must be the famous Father Brown,” you said, you recognised him from the stories Inspector Sullivan told you.
“Inspector Sullivan has told me great things about you,” Father Brown said, helping you off the train.
“And you,” you said smiling.
“This is Mrs McCarthy, the parish security,” Father Brown said, smiling at you.
You smiled at Mrs McCarthy.
“And this is Sidney Carter,” Father Brown said, as a tallish man in a green chauffeur’s uniform came up to you.
“Friends call me Sid,” Sid said, gently taking your luggage from you.
“Ah. Sully’s told me all about you,” you said, feeling your cheeks heat up.
“Hm. Probably not the best information, I bet,” Sid said as you all began to walk to Sid’s car.
“Meh. It was a mix,” you shrugged.
“Oh yeah? What did he say?” Sid asked, putting your luggage in the boot.
“That you’re a common thief,” you said, Sid nodded as he listened. “A bit of a rubbish one too.” You giggled at Sid’s face.
“Rude,” Sid said, you caught Father Brown slightly agreeing with you. “Also rude.” Sid pointed at father brown.
“And that I need to watch myself around you,” you added.
“Oh yeah? Why’s that?” Sid asked, opening the car door for you.
“Because you’ll flirt with anything that moves,” you said in a matter of fact tone.
Sid eyed Father Brown as he let out a laugh.
“I should let you know, Carter. I’m a very respected woman in London,” you stated, as Sid got in the driver’s seat.
“Oh yeah. What’re you? A lady or some thin’?” Sid asked, turning to look at you.
“No,” you said, “I’m London’s first and so far only female Detective Inspector,” you added proudly.
Everyone stared at you. You grinned.
———
After a long day of sight seeing, Father Brown gave the best tours and Mrs M? She makes the best scones. You felt you were settled. You were sitting at the pub, sipping on your drink, when a drunk man came over to you.
“What’s a pretty girl like you doing in a place like this?” He slurred, sitting too close to you for your liking.
“I’m entitled to be here. Same as you,” you said, bravely.
“Oh yeah? Women should be at home. Making dinner for their husbands,” he said.
“Well. I don’t have a husband. So if you don’t mind,” you said standing up.
“If you don’t have a husband, fancy coming back to mine?” He asked, grabbing your wrist.
“How so very polite,” you mocked. “No. I’m fine.” You said firmly.
“Ah come on sweetheart. Just one night with me,” he said, touching your face.
“I said no, thank you,” you said, beginning to feel scared.
“I promise-“ he said.
“Oi! The girl said no, she means no,” Sid’s voice sounded like music to your ears.
You smiled slightly as Sid shoved the man off you and stood in front of you.
“Alright, Carter. Being the hero, are we?” The man asked.
“Nah. Hero’s not really my thing,” Sid shrugged. “But if I see lowlifes like you, tarting a woman who doesn’t want to spend time with you, then I’ll step up. Because when a woman says no, she mean no,” Sid said, standing up tall.
The man sneered at him then left you alone.
“You didn’t have to do that,” you said gratefully.
“Did he hurt you?” Sid asked, looking at you.
“My wrist hurts a little. But other than that, no,” you said honestly.
“Let me walk you back to your hotel room. It’s clearly not safe for you to be out here on your own right now,” Sid said gently.
You thanked him and you both walked along. Sid noticed you slightly shiver as the evening got colder, he gently draped his jacket around your shoulders.
“Well, Sully neglected to mention how much of a gentleman you are, Sidney Carter,” you said smiling as you pulled Sid’s jacket around you tighter.
“Yeah well, me and Sullivan didn’t quite see eye to eye did we?” Sid said smiling, lighting a cigarette.
“He did arrest you a lot didn’t he,” you said giggling.
“Almost every other day,” Sid said.
When you arrived in your hotel room, you began taking Sid’s jacket off.
“Hm. Keep it. Give it back to me tomorrow. These rooms get cold at nights,” Sid said, turning slightly red.
“Th…thank you,” you said blushing.
“D’you maybe …fancy getting something to eat together tomorrow? Maybe? I can show you all the non holy sights the Father “forgot” to show you,” Sid said, scratching the back of his neck.
“I’d love that,” you said, smiling.
“Well…then…see you tomorrow…say…11?” Sid asked.
“11 sounds perfect,” you said.
“G’night, Y/N,” Sid said gently.
“Good night, Sidney,” you said.
“Sid…friends call me Sid,” Sid said, you blushed.
“Good night, Sid…thank you again for saving me,” you said smiling.
“Anytime,” Sid said smiling.
Sid left and you shut the door behind you. Smiling. Maybe moving to Kembleford was a good idea.

Sergeant Duffy Learns The Truth
A snippet inspired by @flange5‘s posts of Sergeant Duffy versus Steve Rogers from WWII Cap comics.
Duffy had to find out some time that Steve was Cap, didn’t he?
----
His wife gave him the invitation from the American History Museum while Duffy watched the Cubs lose to the Cardinals. He barely glanced at the invitation because he had the more important job of yelling at the absolute disgrace of an umpire on the screen. Years of being an Army drill sergeant had given him the skills needed.
“Mike, are you going to open that?” Bridget asked.
“Fine,” he muttered. He ripped open the envelope. He sat up straight, the game forgotten. “It’s a reunion. For the Camp Lehigh soldiers. In DC.”
“Oh, that’s wonderful! We can stay with Debbie and her husband.”
In the two minutes it took for Sergeant Michael Duffy, US Army, retired, to re-read the invitation, Bridget his wife of forty-five years and mother of his three children had planned out their entire visit to DC from flight to daughter Debbie’s house to back again. “I wonder if Donna should come with us -- to help out.”
Bridget wasn’t going to let him forget that pesky heart attack he’d had two years ago. He’d lived through worse whipping green recruits into good Army men before, during, after the war. He even managed to make that god awful Steve Rogers into a soldier.
Cripes, forty years after the war, Rogers still gave him the heebie-jeebies when he remembered that gold-bricking, shit-eating grinning disaster. Rogers never even caught on to how to peel potatoes correctly after the hours and hours of KP.
God rest that pitiful man’s soul. Rogers never came back for that trunk he’d left behind at Camp Lehigh when he’d been shipped out to Europe. Duffy knew what that meant. Everyone knew what that meant. The trunk had been sent to a headquarters somewhere else and Duffy prayed that Rogers was better at peeling potatoes in heaven. Though he knew in his heart that Roger’s half-peeled messes were ruining the buffets in hell.
~~~~~
“Oh, this is fancy,” Bridget said as they were ushered into the American History Museum. “Do you think that President Reagan will be here?”
“No, it’s not that big of a deal,” Duffy said.
Duffy hadn’t seen anyone he personally knew. “I think that’s Dum-dum Dugan over there,” he said to Bridget. He picked out in the crowd other people who might be Howling Commandos.
“Is that Jacqueline Falsworth over there?” Bridget said. All Duffy could guess was that Falsworth was some famous person Bridget read about in her gossip pages.
“Am I imagining this crap?” Duffy said to Sullivan sitting on the other side. They were the last remaining sargeants from Camp Lehigh. Duffy could count on one hand the Lehigh people he’d seen so far.
Sullivan said, “Nah. What the hell is this?”
“Isn’t this a new exhibit? Anniversary of Captain America jazz?”
He and Sully had been seated in the front row of chairs set out in a hall of the museum. The area had been roped off with tight security surrounding the area. There was a podium, which meant boring speeches. Beyond the podium was a red ribbon stretched across closed doors. “That’s what the invite said.”
“Yeah. But can you believe all the brass here? The joint chiefs of staff?”
Duffy looked around the hall, seeing all the uniformed officers and top brass of all the services in the audience, an odd man in a eye-patch next to Dugan, and a few women who appeared to be important.
“I bet that they tell us who Captain America was,” Sully said.
“Hah,” Duffy snorted. “Captain America was a dozen different different men. Ain’t no way he was one man.”
“You’ve been saying that since 42.”
“Ain’t been proved wrong yet,” Duffy said proudly. He read the many many book about Captain America over the years and no one knew who the real man was behind the mask. A true damn America hero, the Captain. Couldn’t have won the war without him.
A man in a suit walked up to the podium, not all that obviously the museum director. He tapped on the microphone. “Today is the 40th anniversary of the disappearance of Captain America. We are honored to have as our guests people who knew him -- Peggy Carter, well-known as Agent 13, Sergeant Michael Duffy ….”
Not that Duffy would say that he ever knew Captain America personally. He’d seen the hero many times leaving or returning from missions.
Polite clapping from the audience as the director continued his brief history of the famed Captain. Duffy knew the story by heart. Big thing for Camp Lehigh, his home for many many years until the decommissioning in the late 50s, to be the birthplace of Captain America.
“Since 1941 the identity of Captain America has been a classified military secret. On this 40th anniversary, we are opening a new exhibit dedicated to the later Captain America and his career and life.”
The crowd grew silent and tense. Sully and Bridget were sitting up alert in their seats.
“I have the great honor to announce that Captain America’s identity has been de-classified and now we can finally reveal the man behind the shield. Steve Rogers was --”
Duffey leapt to his feet, despite the arthritis and television cameras, as forty years of secrets were swept away and the true identity of Captain America sunk in. He’d been played for an idiot for forty years. “THAT SON-OF-A-BITCH ROGERS.”
Reviving & Re-Casting an Old Idea: Neutralised (1994) [1/?]
For those who didn't know me back when this blog first started, it was not a wrestling or music fanfiction blog, it was a page for my comic book and tv series ideas.
Back then I had 2 ideas that I never quite found time to write for: Brainwaves (A Ghostbusters AU), and Neutralised (a sitcom/drama series set in a mortuary building). Yes, I know the idea of Neutralised seems a bit odd, but I was watching a bunch of 'Chicago Hope' and 'Dead Like Me' and decided to set it in the same universe as 'Chicago Hope'.
Happy Storyteller Saturday! What're your OCs best childhood memories?
I meant to get to this much earlier today whoops I’m going to go with some characters from With the Assist because I’ve been thinking about them!
Sully: Sully’s best childhood memory is his elementary school graduation party! By this time, his mom and dad had been divorced, his dad and pops had been legally married for a few years, and his mom spent most of her time overseas. It was just the fifth grade, of course, but his family threw him a grand summer party as though he’d graduated valedictorian. His mom arrived late, but she managed to fly in from London to make it in time, and brought him a poster signed from Colonel Justice himself!
Andi: Andi’s best childhood memory...probably when she got to move to a new town and a nice apartment! She originally shared a room with her parents until she was about six, and when they moved into their new apartment, her parents let her choose which of the rooms she wanted to stay in, and even the paint shade!
Marcus: I think honestly Marcus’s best memories begin with his hero mentor, Glasswing (Ethan)! While they didn’t meet until he was almost twelve, some of his best memories in general involve Ethan, who gave him a true sense of belonging and love. I think the thing that stands out to him most was probably Ethan’s pride and excitement when Marcus passed his official sidekick examination! He’d never had someone show so much support and love towards something he’d accomplished before then.
