Angie paced the floor, low heels clicking against the linoleum. It was almost 11 p.m., and she had been here for more than three hours. Three hours sitting outside of the emergency surgery ward with Howard Carter and Edwin Jarvis. Three hours of waiting for news - any news - of Peggy and the bullet lodged in her side.

By now, she had gotten used to the bloodstained shirts, bruised jaws, and occasional broken bone. Even at 51, Peggy Carter managed to get into her fair share of scrapes. But, being shot was another matter.

The last time Peggy had been shot was 1950, and Angie had almost left her once she’d recovered. The shock of seeing Peggy limp and bleeding out in front of their home had nearly been too much for Angie to process. It had taken several months of sessions with Dr. Merryweather before Angie was able to stay home at night without experiencing crippling anxiety over Peggy’s absence and safety.

That had been 21 years ago, and now, here she was again, clutching the rosary that hung around her neck, fingering the glass beads as she silently mouthed prayers for the woman she loved.

A doctor had been out once when Peggy had first arrived. The bullet had grazed an organ - she’d been too dazed at the time to recall which one - and Peggy had lost a lot of blood. He told her their priority was to stabilize her, mitigate the blood loss, and then work on removing the bullet and stitching up the wound.

Realistically, Angie knew all of those things took time. Emotionally, however, she felt like she’d been waiting for years. When the doors to the surgery opened and the doctor strolled out, flecks of blood dotting his surgical garb, Angie’s legs almost gave out from beneath her. If Howard hadn’t been there to leap up and wrap a steadying arm around her waist, she surely would have fallen.

Concern darted across the surgeon’s face, but at Howard’s assurance that Angie was fine, he began speaking. Angie tried to listen, but he wasn’t saying what she needed to hear the most. Finally, she broke in impatiently.

“Is she going to make it?” she urgently asked.

The surgeon paused before slowly nodding his head. “She will. However, she needs time to recover. The bullet knicked her kidney. She’s lucky it didn’t go through. If it had, we wouldn’t be standing here. She lost a lot of blood. We’re fortunate she got to us when she did.”

Angie felt a wave of relief wash over her. Peggy was going to be all right. That’s the only thing that mattered. Later, when she was healthy, they would seriously discuss transitioning to a full-time office role and leave fieldwork to Peggy's younger agents. But that could wait. Right now, Angie needed to see Peggy, hold her hand, kiss her brow, and reassure herself that Peggy was coming home.

“May I see her?” Angie asked.

“She needs her rest right now-” the doctor began, but his words died off when he saw Howard’s piercing gaze. “However, I think we can make an exception and let you go back for a few minutes.”

Belatedly, Angie remembered that Howard was a very generous donor to the hospital. She shot him a grateful glance. Then, gathering her emotions, Angie pulled her coat tightly around her and followed the surgeon through the swinging doors.

Today is the one year anniversary of Once Upon a Time’s series finale. As a six year watcher, I greatly reveled in the show’s magic, storytelling and characters. I love Emma’s journey, Regina’s romance with Robin and Rumpel’s life as the deliciously naughty Dark One and his romance with Belle. I even found a crush in Zelena. I hope my fellow Oncers also loved the show’s run. 

However, like some others, I thought the show could’ve been more than what it was. 

Here’s some of my thoughts on what I’d do to make the show better, but first let’s start with some things that could stay:

Rumple and Belle’s romance.

Emma and Hook’s romance.

Regina and Robin’s romance.

Red and Dorothy’s romance. 

Henry being Emma and Neal’s son. 

The Neverland/Oz Arc.

The Underworld Arc.

The trio of Aurora, Phillip and Mulan. 

The Frozen Arc. 

The Camelot Arc. 

Henry and Violet’s romance. 

Henry becoming Rumple’s apprentice. 

Jacqueline and James’ journey up the Beanstalk and their raid of the Giants’ treasure. 

Some of the realms untouched by the Curse like Dun Broch. 

Jasmine’s story in Agrabah.

Ariel and Eric eventually leaving the Land without Magic and having adventures in Fairy Tale Land. 

Mulan helping Phillip save Aurora. 

Merida. 

The Author subplot.

Hook’s animosity for Rumple. 

Grumpy romance with a fairy.

Okay on to my ideas. Hope you don’t mind I have a lot: 

One

As much as I liked the Blue Fairy as the go to fairy for help, I think they should’ve had Flora, Fauna and Merryweather instead. Think about it; in the “Sleeping Beauty” movie, they were pretty much the real heroines in the story while in Pinocchio the Blue fairy was only in two scenes. I even thought of Storybrooke names for them:

Flora: Sarah Felton 

Fauna: Josephine Allen

Merryweather: Barbara Johnston 

I even thought of occupations for them: Sarah would be a dressmaker, Josephine a baker and Barbara a cleaning lady. (These are references to the scene where they use magic in the cottage) 

I also thought for them to somehow get their memories back before Emma broke the curse and for them to help Henry make Emma believe. 

I also they should powers connected to nature like in the early story of the movie while it was in development. Flora has the power of plants and flowers, Fauna can talk to animals and Merryweather can use Atmokinesis (weather magic) 

Let’s also have Grumpy have a romance with Merryweather. 

Here’s who I thought should play them: Helena Bonham Carter as Flora, Tina Fey and Debi Mazar as Merryweather. 

Two

Maleficent and Ursula should have been Regina’s allies in Season One. Maleficent being Regina’s deputy mayor and Diablo the crow being her partner and human while Ursula owning a beauty parlor and bringing the latest gossip to Regina. Flotsam and Jetsam being human form too and working in her business. 

Three

Pinocchio/ August Booth should’ve also been part of the main cast. He also should’ve stayed by Emma side at least until their teens when she became a criminal. They also should’ve been shown more of his life in the Land without Magic without his father, Jiminy or the Blue Fairy to guide him. 

Four

Let’s make David’s backstory more simple and make him and James the legitimate sons of King George with David being the nice one due being closer to his mother and James being more like his father. On that note, let’s toss in the tragedy of David’s mother getting killed by thieves when he was little in a raid, leading him to have a further distrust of Hook in Season 3. 

Five

Let’s give the reason for David and Abigail’s marriage alliance be due to Robin Hood and the Merry Men raiding King George’s royal treasury and a failed attempt to steal the Giants’ treasure up the Beanstalk.

Six

Let’s start Snow White life as an outlaw begin with her helping Bluebeard’s wife get away from him. 

Seven

Let’s change how Rumple become the Dark One by somehow having him kill Zoso to end the Ogre Wars and prove he wasn’t a coward. 

Eight

Let’s make Red’s boyfriend Peter the wolf terrorizing the village all along and her having to kill Peter. Later, Peter’s pack learn of his death and want to take their revenge of Red and her Granny. Let’s also not make Red a werewolf. 

Nine

Let’s make Maleficent the daughter of Chernabog and Vidia, the Black Fairy. Let’s also have Clarion, the Queen of the Fairies send Terrance to destroy their union, but Chernabog kills him. Let’s show Maleficent’s childhood and how she became the Mistress of all Evil too. 

Ten 

Let’s set Tiana’s story in the “original” Enchanted Forest and make Mama Odie her godmother. Let’s have Angela Bassett play her. 

Let’s make Dr. Facilier’s dept be with Hades and the Underworld. When the gang to the Underworld, he should have a role in the story arc. 

Let’s make Tiana in Storybrooke a worker at Sarah’s bakery.

Eleven

Let’s give Regina a better reason to hate Snow than what happened in the show. Let’s also make her the girl Queen Eva abused when she was younger a la what happened to Cora in “The Miller’s Daughter”. And give us a love triangle between Regina, Eva and Leopold. 

Twelve

Let’s make Robin Hood at first what like he was in the Wish Realm (stealing so he could be rich) and somehow Snow and Charming change him for the better before or after the Curse was broken. 

Thirteen

Let’s make Flynn Rider a former member of the Merry Men who betrays them, stealing some of their loot and running off to eventually meet Rapunzel. 

Fourteen

As I’ve said let’s keep Jasmine’s story in Agrabah, but lets have her never leave Agrabah for the Land of Untold Stories and married Aladdin by the time the Curse is cast; in short let’s keep the Aladdin story from the movie in the show, genie included. Let’s also have the genie protect Agrabah from the curse. Let’s also maybe have Ali Baba put the Genie’s lamp in the Cave of Wonders. I see Aladdin’s genie as not the one who meets Leopold on the show. 

Fifteen 

Let’s keep the number of realms to a minimum: Fairy Tale Land (The Enchanted Forest, Arendelle, Dun Broch, Camelot, Agrabah)  Neverland, Oz, Wonderland, The Underworld ... Okay that may not be a minimum. Sorry. Anyway let’s lose, 1920s England, Victorian England, The Land of Untold Stories, New Enchanted Forest.. Too many realms in the original show, don’t you think? 

Sixteen

Let’s fully tell characters stories and make them count to the overall plot and stick primarily to fairy tales and no classic literature works like Jekyll and Hyde and 2000 leagues under the Sea or movies like 101 Dalmatians.

Seventeen

Let’s have Rumple hear of how Geppetto can build a magic wardrobe and have him kidnap Geppetto and force him to make it like how Ratigan kidnapped Olivia’s father in “The Great Mouse Detective”.

Since I said that, here’s how I see Pinocchio’s story:

Pinocchio’s adventure begins when he’s sent on an errand. After escaping Stromboli, he discovers Geppetto’s been kidnapped. He and Jiminy sent sail to find him and on the way stumple upon Pleasure Island. After escaping there, he finally finds Geppetto and they escape, but Rumple sends Monstro after them. They survive and the Blue Fairy turns him into a real boy and for Geppetto and Pinocchio to seek asylum in Snow White’s kingdom. The End.

Eighteen 

Let’s name the Blue Fairy Evangeline (guess why I named her that. Think of a firefly character you may know) and sadly have her killed by Rumple before or after the curse.

Nineteen

Let’s give Rumple this reason for asking for the first born babies of Cora and Cinderella: to use the Time Traveling Spell to make sure his son was never lost to him.

Twenty

Let’s make The Dragon Mushu from “Mulan” and the mentor of Mulan and give him a role in Storybrooke.

Twenty One

Let’s give Mulan and Phillip Storybrooke counterparts. Let’s make Mulan a self’defense teacher at a dojo and bisexual and in a relationship with Phillip.

Twenty Two

Let’s make Aurora the only “Sleeping Beauty” that Maleficent cursed and have her also curse Phillip as an Yaoguai for him to be saved by Belle and Mulan. In Storybrooke let’s have Maleficent keep cursed Aurora, still asleep, in the basement of her house. 

Twenty Three

Let’s show more characters from Disney and fairy tales like Mad Madame Mim and Goldilocks. 

Let’s make Madame Mim a rival to Maleficent and Goldilocks a stooge for Rumple. 

Twenty Four

Let’s make cursed Eric the boyfriend of Ursula and have cursed Ariel mute with Ursula keeping her voice somewhere at her home or beauty parlor. 

Twenty Four

Let’s have more commotion in Storybrooke after the curse is broken: the Giant trying kill David, Gaston rising a mob to kill Rumple, etc. 

Twenty Five

Let’s have Archie Granny, Ashley, Ariel, Red, The Seven Dwarves in the supporting cast with the Mad Hatter and Flynn Rider and Rapunzel 

Twenty Six

Let’s see more of the Home Office (Greg and Tamara’s group). 

Twenty Seven 

Let’s include more fairy tales like Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Emperor’s New Clothes and Thumbelina.

Twenty Eight

Let’s make Mother Goose the author of Henry’s book.

Flora, Fauna, Merryweather, Mowgli, and The S.O.B That Named You Sue.

Lorraine ‘Lol’ Harding (Helena Bonham Carter, bc I can’t see her as anyone else tbh and nobody told me it was a bad idea sooOoooo) - Mother

Sue and Lol are honest to goodness best friends. Despite the fact he has lived in so many different places and is almost always travelling they talk every day. He tells her everything - everything - and always has. 5′4″ and strange. Calls him Susi Q affectionately, calls him Susan Englebert when she’s upset or angry at him. Frequently jokes that she’s going to get a maternity test due to the fact Sue looks so much like his father.

Eleanor ‘Nell’ Harding-Gill (Helen McCrory) - Aunt

Nell is the reason the family are fluent in, and use BSL as she lost almost all of her hearing at such a young age (she doesn’t even remember a time when she wasn’t deaf).  Tells the bluest jokes. Always bought Sue cigarettes when he was entirely too young to smoke. She definitely fires from the hip and tells it how it is and Sue is influenced by her with regards to that. Taught Sue how to throw a punch.

Edith-Annie ‘Edie’/’Dee’ Harding (Hayley Atwell) - Aunt

Dee is the youngest of the ‘Good Fairies’ and is only three years older than Sue. Always happy to sing along to whatever Sue’s playing on guitar or ukulele. They can get very musical when they’re together. Almost always trying to find him love and often starts conversations with her nephew with the words ‘I met your future husband today’ (sometimes even sends him sneakily taken photographs of attractive guys on the train or  in cafes). When they’re otu together she acts as his wingman whether he likes it or not.

Sue Cash (Joe Gilgun) - Our Hero

You know who he is.

James ‘River’ Cash (Peter Capaldi) - Father

River was always dead set against the idea of being a parent (he was 26 when Lol got pregnant, she was only 19 herself). He named and registered Sue’s birth without Lol’s consent and never explained to her why he chose the name but lied and said it was after his grandmother. He believes he did a good thing by calling him Sue, because of that name Sue grew up strong and tough without his father, who tried for three unhappy years to do the family thing before giving up and abandoning the both of  them as he knew he would eventually. Sue wants him dead.

Sue was brought up really close to his Aunts, as Lol was a young mother. Collectively he calls them Flora, Fauna and Merryweather (The Good Fairies).

Lol, Nell and Dee call Sue ‘Mowgli’ due to his love for the Jungle Book (and lanky appearance)

There’s definitely a group chat involving the four of them on WhatsApp.  

Nell and Sue send each other carved pumpkin photographs every October.

Oddly Sue and Dee went to the same school for a few years. She always stood up for him in the face of bullies and started rumours that made him cooler so people would pay more attention to him.

S.H.I.E.L.D. UNDER FIRE: WHAT IS PROJECT KOBRIK?

Two hours ago, a mysterious hacker known as the WHISPERER leaked files exposing a top secret S.H.I.E.L.D. security program, nicknamed KOBIK, which would allow authorities to use reality warping Infinity Stones to make changes in the fabric of reality without public knowledge. Here is an abridged version:

FOR AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY, COMPLIMENTARY OF THE WHISPERER:  

Confirmed: The Infinity Stones used by Thanos in Earth-13130 (main designation) were destroyed 26 / 4 / 2023.

Confirmed: Infinity Stones of Earth-616 have crossed over via human hosts. Known hosts are H. Bautista (Time) and R. Ryan (Reality). Task Force IS set to track down the other four.

Project Goals: Renewal. Rehabilitation. Restoration. KOBIK is a solution to a never ending problem and can happen quietly without notice of the general public. Government approval is currently pending but trial phase is authorized in a sealed off space.

WHAT THIS MEANS:

Data analysts have been reviewing the encrypted files and are still working to make a full report. After the danger of Thanos and the genocide he caused, the public is rightfully unsettled by the idea of the government relying on Infinity Stones to solve problems. Former Assistant Director Maria Hill recently took on the mantle of Director from acting leader Alphonso Mackenzie. When asked for a statement, Hill responded strongly:

These accusations have gotten completely out of hand. First of all, Kobik was a proposal, nothing more. I have a lot of proposals on my desk. It doesn’t mean they become reality, if you’ll excuse my choice of words there. Beyond that, for those criticizing even the intent of the proposal -- given what just happened to us -- the recent Thanos “Cleanse” Crisis -- If we could prevent that kind of tragedy -- or worse -- with a minor, carefully considered use of this program, shouldn’t we? Isn’t that our obligation? What we should be discussing today is the criminal who leaked classified intelligence, and in doing so, put lives at risk. Because, rest assured, finding out whoever did this just became my favorite priority.”

The closest S.H.I.E.L.D. has gotten to arresting the Whisperer was this morning in New York City, but former Captain America Sam Wilson stood in the way. Why the Falcon would work with the hacker is unknown, but the Avengers declined a comment. C.I.A. Agent Sharon Carter spoke for the government via Zoom this morning, citing the entire leak as “an unfortunate slip-up, but as the reports say, the government has not approved of this method.” With the Whisperer still on the run, we’ll continue to check for any updates on Project KOBIK and its validity.

CRIME RATES PLUMMET: A BLESSING OR A CURSE?

As recently reported, major crime rates across the country have declined by 30% in the last thirty days. In this case, major crimes pertains to those being caused by higher tiered criminals, like the kind you’d see in a costume squaring up against the Avengers. This change began with no warning and the Avengers have not commented, instead remaining divided over conflicts like Wanda Maximoff’s hostile takeover of Westview, NJ, the governments continued support of Law S.315, the Underage Superhuman Welfare Act and the now disbanded terrorist organization the Flag Smashers following the death of their leader, Karli Morganthau.

While it seems like we may finally be getting a reprieve from the danger that’s been so prevalent ever since the Avengers officially banded in 2012, some disturbing rumors have also come to light. The Bugle received an insiders tip that inmates have been disappearing from their cells across the country. As you may remember, former President turned Green Goblin Norman Osborn did a disappearing act five months ago and has not been seen since despite having an active warrant out. Osborn had been telepathically lobotomized by Emma Frost (for more info on mutant amnesty, check out Irene Merryweather’s Krakoa column), leading some to wonder how he would have been able to escape the Raft without a trace or apparently any aid. Others inmates whose statuses are unknown include Adrian Toomes/The Vulture (Ravencroft Institute for the Criminally Insane), Agatha Harkness (Westview resident), Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye (Ravencroft), Georges Batroc/The Leaper (the Raft), and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (Ravencroft). Our insider was able to confirm others have also been reported but could not provide names.

S.H.I.E.L.D. is currently in hot water due to the KOBIK Report that also dropped this morning (see page one) and we are left to wonder if security has dropped or the agency has something to hide. S.H.I.E.L.D. officially disbanded in 2014 after it was revealed that they had been infiltrated by H.Y.D.R.A. all the way up to the highest levels. The reemergence of S.H.I.E.L.D. comes right as Maria Rambeau’s agency S.W.O.R.D. has gained more attention due to their work with the Maximoff Anomaly. S.W.O.R.D. Director Abigail Brand went on the record saying she knew nothing about Project Kobrik or the escaped inmates because “That’s simply not my job. We focus elsewhere.”

Be it the eye of the storm or something more sinister is yet to be seen. If we are experiencing a mass outbreak of our most dangerous supervillains, the Avengers are going to need to find a way to get their heads on straight once more. As you may remember, the team is currently without a Captain America after Sam Wilson chose to step down and his replacement John Walker was stripped of the title and dishonorably discharged. With luck, all the convicts are in Bermuda drinking Pina Colada’s and retiring from crime. It seems unlikely, but it remains better than the alternatives.

WEDDING BELLS ARE RINGING! After rumors placed Inhuman Princess Crystalia Amaquelin and Pietro Maximoff  (the recently deceased brother of Avenger/Baddie Wanda Maximoff) together, the Inhuman Royal Palace confirmed the news along with Amaquelin’s pregnancy. Although our gossip columnist Miriam Birchwood called the baby long before, it wasn’t until five months after the suspected birth that the Palace commented. This comes on the heels of Amaquelin and Maximoff’s April 19th wedding, where civilians stood at the Hudson to try and catch a glimpse of the many heroes, mutants and royals who were welcomed in New Attilan. Princess Amaquelin was reported to be a victim of Maximoff’s Westview, so it’s likely the Inhumans shared the good news officially since a little time has passed. Congratulations to Crystal, Pietro and baby Luna! Hopefully ex-boyfriend Johnny Storm isn’t too heartbroken. There’s a long line of ladies ready to let the Human Torch warm them up.

TIME TO MIX IT UP! The Avengers recently updated their website to show new teams and rosters. Notably, Wanda Maximoff has retained her Avengers spot despite being called a terrorist by some due to recent actions (for more, check out our annual biyearly special).

LET’S LET LOOSE! The mutants of Krakoa have apparently announced that they will be holding a celebration known as the Hellfire Gala on Krakoa and allowing homosapiens onto the Island for the first time. The name Hellfire Gala sounds little ominous, but I’m there! Who wouldn’t want to see Cyclops rocking some formal wear? Hopefully Magneto breaks out the good cape for this one!
