So a little bit ago, I had this to say about Carranger:

Specifically about how hard it was to liveblog this show because, really, what could I possibly add to just the jokes as they’re presented to you? ... and really, that’s about how I’d sum it up! In these wrap-up posts I like to try and lay out what the show meant to be in greater detail or where I felt it succeeded or failed, but Carranger I just. Can’t do that with, I don’t think. Carranger is a show beyond analysis.

It’s, like-- it’s a comedy! More than even stuff like Hurricaneger or Abaranger it is a Sentai made specifically as an incredibly heightened self-parody of the inherent ridiculousness of Sentai and to a degree Tokusatsu as a whole, and it succeeds wildly at that! It also means there just isn’t much to talk about! For sure I can say that it’s a very good self-parody in how it does respect the medium of what it’s doing and having fun with itself rather than being some vicious mockery, and they do a good job of making the characters likable and having focus episodes beyond just jokes; but I can’t really say a lot beyond that. It is what it is! And what it is is an awesome fucking show that’s an absolute joy to watch!

It’s one that took me a while to get through, and I think it’s a testament to the low quality of the official Shout subs and the sheer success of HaroRangers’ fansubs that it took me 2 months to get through half the show with Shout, and then 2 weeks to get through the other half the show with Haro. It really is just that much better with them and I’d highly recommend going with Haro if you ever want to watch this show!

And I do think you should watch this show if you have any interest in Sentai. It’s funny as hell and, as said; understands the inherent ridiculousness of the genre and has a good time with it. It’s just a fun show to put on if you need a smile on your face, you know? It’s got a great cast, great acting and above all a great sense of comedy. Watch it!

all of the shout sentai releases are so poor quality tho... acceptable enough for a rewatch of something i already know i like but if it’s my first time experiencing a show i definitely want it softsubbed & to be able to easily take screencaps
