Was assigned to be a deku kinnie today by my dormmates
A little context, I'm in Jobcorps for a carpentry trade. It's my first month here and I've already been sent to the nurses office more than 4 times. I am currently sick because I keep pushing my body and overworking myself and giving myself heatstroke because I don't keep track of how hot I am very well.
Boss has suggested I switch to OA (office administration) for a few months so my body can acclimate amd my stress levels can go down and the nurses agree . . . I'm not beating the deku allegations by wanting to ignore them and continue doing carpentry

most people assume my dream is to go into research in the sciences, which is mostly true and is genuinely a big interest of mine (i wouldn't have gone into the sciences for my education if not), but real ones know that my secret dream job is to work as a barista at a small, sleepy café where i can make nice stuff for the customers and there's enough of a lull during my shift that i have time to pen a story or six
...either that or blacksmithing. i wanna make swords.

🛠Celebrating NATIONAL SKILLED TRADES DAY!🛠
We truly appreciate all of the skilled trades workers it takes to start and finish off a Cascade Handcrafted Log Home! And even across the nation, many businesses require highly skilled workers to fill a multitude of trades in construction.
The skilled trades community holds the country together. On the first Wednesday of May, (today) celebrate those in the skilled trades – it’s a true labor of love.

I joined my local carpenters union, and faced similar complaints about corrupt leadership, and in fact, a union leader had recently been busted for embezzling money from the union trust, which of course is what pays for people's pensions.
I, and about 98% of my fellow carpenters, could not make it to the union meetings where votes were held because it was only done in 4 locations, despite the union representing three states, you had to be there in person, they refused to hold remote sessions because "what if someone who's anti union joins the call and harassed us" (the excuse I got from my union rep), AND most critically, were held on Thursdays at 4PM. Which was when most of us were either at work, or stuck in a commute from work. You would get yelled at by your foreman for requesting to leave work early to attend the meeting as well, on most jobsites.
Some unions do quite literally everything possible to prevent their members from voting
Btw I'm still pro union but I fucking left that one ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
>Join a union
>Hear people constantly complaining that the current union leadership is super corrupt, it's all just the same ten guys making all the decisions in secret and nobody else in the union ever gets to know what's going on
>Go to the monthly union meetings that are completely open to all 1200 union members
>The only attendees are the same ten guys every month, giving detailed reports about everything that's going on

Being in a skilled trade is an interesting environment
especially when you’re the youngest around old fuckers
I’ve been in this trade for at least 15 years and yet still doesn’t get the respect
.i find myself very passive aggressive when working hand to hand with them; it’s simple, I’m not trynna care or gaf.
I just wanna do my 8 and skate but it still pisses me the fuck off when we work on a job and they ask me how I’m gonna do it then proceed to say “nah this how we gonna do it”
Deadass just don’t ask me
I’m better off working on my own
