Spring Break in Unova, chapter 1: Home for the Holidays
It's spring break, and the newly coupled-up BB6 have decided to spend it together. The three young couples are sure to find out that with passion comes the need for a lot of growing up, especially when families get involved.
This is a kind-of-sort-of request that I'm doing for a friend on Discord. It's also a sort of continuation from my earlier story, "The Bet," but you won't need to have read it to understand it. I hope you all enjoy this.
---
Drayton opened the door to his dorm, flung down his bookbag, threw off his jacket, put on his headset and sank into his gaming chair. He’d had the good luck of having all his midterms before spring break, which meant he could look forward to a week of doing what he was currently getting a headstart in: absolutely fuck all. He moved his character with practiced grace through some platformer Kieran’s Paldea friend had designed, absolutely in the zone. Then, a loud banging at the door caught him off guard and made him smush his character against a wall of spikes, wrecking his no-damage run.
Grumbling, Drayton paused the game and got up to see who was making that racket, though there was only one person he knew who would knock like that just to take him out of his gamer focus.
Drayton opened the door, and, as expected, Crispin was there, a big smile on his face that made Drayton wonder what he was planning.
“If you’d have knocked much harder, you’d have beaten down the door,” Drayton said, a lazy smile on his face.
“Sorry, Dray. You didn’t hear me when I was quieter, and I wanted to repay you a favour!”
“...Go on.”
“Remember when we had that bet, and you held me to asking Lacey out even though I won?”
“Uh-huh.”
“Well, Lacey asked me to spend a whole week- all of spring break- with her family. And word is that her dad is scary. So here’s what I’m thinking. If I make it the whole week, you have to finally ask your crush out at the end of it. How’s it sound?”
Drayton froze up at that last part, but he managed to keep his cool. “Somehow I don’t think this is just about repaying a favour,” he deadpanned.
Crispin shrunk into himself a bit in embarrassment. “Yeah… well… I’m also really nervous, and I’d really appreciate the extra push, I guess…”
Drayton chuckled. “I’ll think about it, kay? I’ll let you know tonight when we meet the others at the cafeteria.”
Crispin smiled and gave a thumbs up. “You got it!” he exclaimed. “See you there!”
With that, Crispin dashed out the door, leaving Drayton to lay back on his bed and contemplate. Drayton had gotten pretty close to Kieran in the months since his and Crispin’s last bet had gotten them spending time together, and yeah, Drayton had been finding him pretty attractive now that he looked and acted more mature. But asking him out? Drayton wasn’t sure his pride could take it if he got rejected by someone he was so out of the league of. And he liked things as they were right now. Why fix what wasn’t broken and risk the whole thing falling apart?
On the other hand… things could only stay the same between them for so long. There’d been a lot of lingering glances between them lately. Drayton could remember how, just a few days ago Kieran had come over, they’d been laughing over some silly game while sitting on the floor and Kieran had fallen right onto him. Drayton had put him in a headlock, and soon they’d been on the ground one on top of the other. The look Kieran had given him when they’d separated before he blushed and looked away… yeah, Drayton was sure of it. Kieran had liked that.
Yeah, it was time to rip the bandaid off. Even if Kieran had some silly reason for not wanting to date, Drayton could rest easy knowing that Kieran wished they could.
-
Drayton was, naturally, the last one to the cafeteria. Carmine, Kieran, Crispin, Lacey, and Amarys were already there, chatting over ice cream.
“Hey, Drayton,” Lacey said as he approached. “We were just talking about how we think we did or will do on midterms. How do you think you did?”
“Fine,” Drayton said dismissively before turning to Kieran. “Hey, Kieran. You got any plans for spring break?”
“Not really. Studying, gaming. There’s not a lot to do in Kitakami.” By now, Drayton knew that Kieran would also be spending time helping his grandma in the garden and the kitchen, but he wouldn’t admit that in front of a group of other teenagers.
“Well, wanna spend it in Unova with my family instead?” Drayton offered.
“I mean… sure! It could be fun. It’ll cool to find out about your family.”
“Great,” Drayton replied. He looked over to Crispin and gave him a slight “we’re on,” nod, to which Crispin grinned and nodded in return.
“Aw, how nice!” Lacey chimed in. “Aside from Carmine, we’ll all be in reach of each other for the break. We should meet up sometime.”
“Yes,” Amarys said in her usual monotone. “That sounds enjoyable. But let’s not leave Carmine out.” She turned to Carmine. “Carmine, would you like to join us? I could ask my parents to have you. I’m sure they’d say yes.”
Carmine looked rather surprised for no reason Drayton could deduce. “Yes, I’d love to! We’ll make sure it’s a good break,” she said with way more intensity than the situation asked for.
Is something going on there, or is it just Carmine being Carmine? Drayton wondered. Eh, probably just Carmine.
“Awesome!” Crispin sang out.  “This is gonna be the best spring break ever!”
The group concurred as they continued making plans for the week.
The trip to Unova was quick, and soon the six Blueberry Academy students had split off into pairs and gotten on buses headed to separate cities.
Carmine and Amarys found seats at the back of the relatively empty bus, and Carmine pulled Amarys close, a gesture Amarys had learned not to fight- not that she’d ever wanted to.
“Is there anything I should know about your parents before I meet them?” Carmine asked.
“Not particularly,” Amarys answered.
“You can tell me anything. Remember that,” Carmine asserted, not for the first time in their relationship.
“Yes,” Amarys replied, tilting her head quizzically. “You as well. Why are you reminding me of that now?”
“No particular reason. Anyhow, if the others invite us out, we’re going, no matter what, alright?”
“So long as I have enough time to study, then yes, we will.”
Carmine surmised that she wouldn’t get much more information from Amarys, so she turned her attention to the passing valleys outside the window. Amarys seemed calm enough, but it was hard to tell with her. And frankly, there was so much that made Carmine think that things hadn’t been great for Amarys in the past. No one acted as stiff and serious as Amarys without something happening to cause it, and the fact that she’d started battling as young as she had and was so focused on her studies and so successful at everything made Carmine wonder if she wasn’t facing immense pressure at home. Carmine figured Amarys was lucky to have her to teach her how to live and to encourage her art, her friendships, and her more sensitive side. And now, Carmine would have a chance to take a look at the root of the problem. It wasn’t one she’d waste.
Carmine was taken out of her thoughts by Amarys taking her hand. She hadn’t noticed until that moment, but she’d balled her hands into shaking fists. As had happened a few times before, Carmine took Amarys’ hand and steadied herself. Amarys was so good at telling when Carmine needed to be taken out of her own head. And thankfully, this time she didn’t ask what was wrong.
Just then, the bus passed by a field of purple flowers peaking out from the snow. Amarys got out her rotom phone to take a picture. “This would make a beautiful painting,” she said, and the conversation moved on to art.
Before long, the bus had entered a city of skyscrapers. Carmine had seen plenty of Castelia from pictures Amarys had sent her, but seeing it in person was a whole other experience. Everything was so big, and the streets were so busy. This was a place where more happened than the mind could imagine.
Before Carmine could even finish wrapping her head around the immensity of the city, the bus had come to their stop. From there, it was a couple blocks’ walk to the apartment building Amarys lived in, and an elevator ride up to the fifth floor. Carmine knocked on the door, bracing herself for whatever was inside.
The door was opened by a tall, slender woman with glasses and her hair in a bun. “Amarys!” the woman, presumably Amarys’ mom, exclaimed, wrapping her daughter up in a hug. “How are things at the academy?”
“Good,” Amarys answered without enthusiasm. “I’m doing well in my classes, and I was elected president of the student council.”
“That’s great. And it’s great that I’ll finally get to meet this girl you’ve been telling me about. You two are just in time for lunch. Come on in.”
The two stepped in, and Carmine took a look around. The place was about what Carmine expected- a higher-class place, lots of books on the shelves- but a lot cozier. She could even see what looked like Amarys’ paintings on the walls. Carmine wasn’t sure what she was expecting, but somehow the misalignment just put her more on edge. Amarys guided Carmine to her room, where they put their bags before heading to the table.
“So,” Carmine said once they were seated and everyone was serving themselves, “what got you to put Amarys in Blueberry Academy?”
“It just seemed like a good fit,” her father said. “Rigourous enough to challenge her, with more like-minded people than a public school. Plus, she’s always been into battling.”
Carmine nodded, thinking of how Amarys told her she’d been battling since preschool. No one did that without parental pressure. “Right… I’m sure bragging rights for having her in a year early had nothing to do with it.”
Amarys’ father looked to her mother as if looking for a cue on how to respond, and Amarys was looking at Carmine like she’d grown a second head.
“Okay,” her mother said, voice dripping with a mean girl energy that Carmine recognized all too well. “I don’t know where that came from, but I’m going to ignore it. How are things at school going for you, Carmine? Are you doing well in your classes? Join any extracurricular?”
“It’s great. Everything is just great,” Carmine replied, trying not to sound too defensive, before going into some modest, believable lies that only her own parents would be able to fact-check.
Why are they acting like I’m the crazy one? Carmine wondered, teeth grit. It’s like they’re testing me. Well, I’m not letting my guard down. I’ll find out what they’re hiding.
Crispin’s muscles strained as he struggled to pick up the pickaxe. The problem wasn’t the weight of the thing, it was that Crispin had been at this since eight this morning, and it was almost noon.
“Come on now,” Clay barked, breaking chunks of coal off the wall with his own axe. “The day’s not half over. This is what I did before business took off. Put yer back into it.”
With a grunt, Crispin raised the pickaxe above his head and let it fall, picking off a wimpy, hand-sized piece of ore. If this was Clay’s test to make sure he was a real man, Crispin was pretty sure he was failing it really badly.
“Hey, Dad,” came Lacey’s voice. “You forgot your lunch on the counter, so Mom sent me to drop it off for you. And I was wondering- there’s a musical in town and I would really like to bring Crispin to it. Could I steal him away?”
Crispin looked away from his work and to his possible salvation. Lacey was swaying girlishly on the balls of her feet and giving Clay the same fairy eyes that had gotten Crispin to put up with Clay in the first place instead of running like all of Lacey’s previous dates.
“O’course. Just don’t tire ‘im out too much before his shift tomorrow.”
“Of course,” Lacey agreed. “Thank you, Dad.”
Lacey grabbed Crispin’s hand and led him out of the mine. It was a good thing she was holding onto him, too, because Crispin couldn’t have navigated those dark tunnels by himself, and the bright light of day was just as disorienting as the darkness had been after he’d spent so long underground. “Hey, Lacey… Thanks for getting me off work, but I’m really tired. Could we go to a show some other time?”
Lacey giggled. “There is no show. And Dad didn’t forget his lunch, either. I took it out of his bag so I’d have an extra excuse to come and rescue you.” She took a bottle of fresh water out of her bag and tossed it to Crispin, who caught it. “Here. You must be thirsty.”
“...Thanks.”
“Hey. Y’know, this is the longest anyone’s lasted my dad’s test. You’re doing great. More than great. You’re doing fantastic. I’m really sorry he’s so old-fashioned. I’m sure glad I’m his daughter instead of his son, or he’d probably have me in the mines instead!”
“Heh… yeah… lucky.”
“Well, mostly. I’d rather be treated like a cute little thing than be expected to do everything myself or get berated for it. But it’s a good thing I like cute things and fairies. He’d never let me specialize in steel-types, or fire, or dragon, or ghost, or dark…” As Lacey listed types, the joy left her voice. “He only lets me use excadrill because it used to be his Pokémon, so he trusts it. I wish I trusted me instead. But hey, fairies are the cutest! I’d have picked them no matter what!” Lacey flashed a slightly-forced smile, which then fell somewhat. “But it not being much of a choice? It’s just not right…”
Crispin had heard her say those four words a million times, but never without her hand gesture or so little assertiveness. It just wasn’t right. But Crispin wasn’t sure how to lift the mood. “Geez, when you put it that way, maybe I’m the lucky one. I’d hate being treated like I can’t do anything myself!”
“Well, maybe. Anyhow, that’s why he insists on testing all my boyfriends. He thinks they’ve gotta be able to protect and provide for me. But if it makes you feel better, I don’t think you need to be a ‘real man’ to be perfect. You’re always cooking something up even when you’re not literally cooking. And you are super, super cute.”
That last part made Crispin blush. He knew that for Lacey, that was the highest praise. “Thanks…” Crispin said.
Lacey frowned. Then, she smiled. “I think I know what’ll perk you up. How’s about a bet? You show my dad that you don’t need any testing because you’ll be a great chef and a great businessman, and I’ll show him that I can look out for myself. How’s it sound?”
“You’re on!” he exclaimed just as they got to Lacey’s house.
Soon, the two were at Lacey’s house. “Great. Now, go take a shower. I don’t want any coal dust on my bed while we plan things out!”
“Wowzers, this place is like a sci-fi movie!” Kieran exclaimed as they walked through the chrome streets that sprawled out between blocks of equally chrome skyscrapers.
“Yeah, I guess it is,” Drayton said. “Opelucid wasn’t a bad place to grow up. Has some nice clubs I could sneak into. May as well do that this week since we won’t have a single responsibility to haunt us.”
That made Kieran’s eyes light up even more. “Oh, yeah! I’ve never been to a nightclub before! You think I could pass as an adult now that I turned fifteen?”
Drayton chuckled as they turned the corner to his house. “Well… maybe. But the owners know me well enough that they’d let us in if you were twelve.” Drayton turned to Kieran as he rang the doorbell, momentarily savouring the look of indignation on his face before the door opened.
A short, spunky-looking girl with wild purple hair had opened the door, and Drayton felt his enthusiasm for the break deflate like an untied balloon.
“Oh. You’re here,” Drayton deadpanned.
“Yep,” Iris said, apparently none too put off by his attitude. “Visiting for the week. Nice to see you, too, cousin!”
“Hey, Kieran, let’s go to my room,” Drayton said, taking Kieran by the wrist and heading for it.
Kieran let out a surprised, “Huh?” but followed along.
Thankfully, Drayton got Kieran distracted with some games, and he didn’t ask questions or ask to come out of his room until Iris called them for dinner. Unthankfully, dinner was with Drayden and Iris.
“So, you’re the kid my cousin’s been talking about, huh?” Iris asked. “You two must have really made amends if he invited you here!”
Drayton’s face went red as he regretted ever venting to Iris about anything. It looked like Kieran could sense the tension in the room as well- he looked like he might choke on his food. “Heh. Yeah, we’ve come quite a ways…”
“Since you beat him at your school club?” Iris asked innocently, as though she wasn’t intentionally belittling his achievements. Who knew, maybe she wasn’t.
“At the school you’re three years too young to get into, that produces some of the best trainers there are? Yeah.”
“How are things as champion of Unova, Iris?” Drayden asked, shooting Drayton a sharp glare that said, “quit making snippy comments towards my adopted child.”
“It’s great!” Iris exclaimed. “Grimsley has been teaching me all kinds of card games, and I’ve started learning some mixed martial arts stuff from Marshall.” Iris giggled. “If a challenger comes by one day and one of my Pokémon isn’t feeling it, maybe I’ll just be my own sixth slot.”
Drayden chuckled. “Learning new skills is fine and good, but it won’t save you from an ice beam.”
“Don’t worry,  I’m joking. I have more than six Pokémon, so I always have backups.”
Drayden nodded. “That sounds wonderful. It sounds as though you’ve achieved a lot, and your time with the elite four has helped you grow.”
“I bet,” Drayton added. “I mean, it’s not exactly special for champions to be kids these days. Wouldn’t surprise me if the Elite Four are trained in babysitting when they’re hired.”
Drayden turned his sharp eyes to Drayton. “It isn’t new for champions to rise during their journeys, Drayton. Almost half of them do. Even Cynthia was only fourteen when she became champion, and she held her title for fourteen years. Yes, Iris isn’t the only younger champion in the world right now, but that doesn’t mean she won’t keep her title a long time. Meanwhile, all you’ve managed to accomplish is to become a fake Elite Four member in a school you should have graduated from already.”
Kieran looked over to Drayton, probably expecting either a comeback or Drayton’s classic chill indifference. Instead, Drayton just kept his head down and kept eating.
“Hey, i-it’s Drayton’s third year,” Kieran cut in, “it’s a four-year program. He’s not supposed to have graduated yet.”
Drayton gently touched Kieran’s arm. When Kieran looked over to him, he shook his head to let him know he should shut his mouth.
“Given that he’s already been held back two or three times, the point stands,” Drayden replied calmly.
Drayton kept a straight face and nodded. He knew by now that defending himself against Drayden was a lost cause- he’d call it “talking back” and use it as more evidence of Drayton’s inadequacy.
Drayton could feel Kieran’s eyes on him, confused. Kieran knew him as this chill rebel, and he wasn’t acting like one right now. Hopefully he’d just forget about it.
The four finished up dinner quickly, and then Drayton herded Kieran to his room and put on his choice of movie to keep them from talking too much. Soon enough, it was time for bed. There wasn’t much talking except about basic things- pop culture and whatnot- and Drayton could feel that Kieran sensed something was off. As Drayton lay awake that night, he wondered to himself- with Drayden and Iris around, how was he going to regain his cool image in Kieran’s eyes by the end of the week? Because there was no way he could ask Kieran out like this.
“Hey, Drayton?” came Kieran’s voice. “You wanna talk about what just happened?”

Could I maybe get a Hisuian!Reader who came to Paldea through a space time rift? They remember everything, they still have all their old Pokemon, they like to share stories of their adventures (anything from taking on Volo to "Oh yeah, I caught this alpha garchomp after a half-hour standoff, here's her gigaton ball lol."), they've got little scars here and there from accidentally standing too close to Pokemon attacks or taking fall damage, and they give descendants of their Hisuian Pokemon to their blueberry friends (BBE4, Carmine, and Kieran) during their trades. To make things even more interesting, I wonder what that reader would think about bloodmoon ursaluna, Perrin, and modern Sinnoh - seeing their dear friend Adaman in someone alive today and seeing just how much things have changed over the years
Tumblr media
The PLA fixation is real so YESSSIR I finally got around to this one. I separated the headcanons by region and their respective characters
.............
Paldea (Arven, Penny, Nemona)
After finishing your mission in Hisui, you decided to confront Arceus, being satisfied with everything you've done for the Survey Corps and the good people of Jubilife Village.
You fully finished the pokedex, fulfilling Professor Laventon's dreams, and were ready to return home.
After some reluctance, Arceus agreed and ensured you wouldn't lose any of your memories, as you didn't want all your feats in Hisui become lost to history.
It warned you that you'll never get to see Rei/Akari, Professor Laventon, the Wardens...or anyone else ever again.
But you've said your goodbyes and were ready to go back.
One warp through a space-time rift later, you were dropped off in Paldea-
Right where Arven, Penny, and Nemona were discussing whether to call off the search for you or not.
As it turns out, you've been missing for months, not long after the Area Zero adventure, and so it's a rather tearful reunion when they realize the person in the old fashioned clothing was you.
You looked tired, scarred, battle-hardened...and yet you smiled as you joked about being "back from the past".
Since then, easing back into modern life was..trickier than you expected.
You still had the habit of crafting pokeballs and potions as you were taught, rather than spend money buying them in bulk (even though you had boatloads because of your champion status).
You tried getting the trio to follow your directions, but they kept fumbling with the tumblestones and didn't know where to attach the iron chunks that made up the clasps.
When you start talking about feather, wing, leaden, and gigaton pokeballs they stare at you in confusion until you realize "oh shit those are outdated".
Nemona is VERY curious about the gigaton ball, however, and so you show it to her--revealing your Alpha Garchomp branded with the "Former Alpha" mark. She got to keep her height.
"Oh yeah, she was a real feisty one. We had a half-hour standoff on a slippery ice mountain slope but I showed her who's boss haha." You laugh as you share the story of how you encountered and tamed her.
Your fellow champion now thinks you're 10x cooler for actually facing a Pokémon head-on....while poor Arven and Penny are shook(TM) and wondered how you made it back alive.
Especially when they discover your scars are from falling and vicious Pokemon attacks
Introducing your Hisuian starter to your Paldean starter was...a little awkward. One recently became a champion's Pokémon and the other faced Giratina itself.
But they eventually shake hands and become besties, becoming members of your party whenever you wanna battle Arven, Penny, or Nemona again.
You keep accidentally calling out agile/strong style in your commands (ie "Avalugg, make an Agile Avalanche!"), but your Pokémon like to pretend they still know them.
Kitakami (Perrin & Bloodmoon Ursaluna)
Returning to Kitakami felt most familiar..and quite comforting considering how traditional everything is.
Festival of the Masks came back around, and while you didn't get to spend it with Kieran nor Carmine this time...you did wind up spending it with somebody else...
Perrin, who you were drawn to after seeing her Hisuian Growlithe getting into trouble with an Arbok and trying to stand up for itself.
Reminds you of a certain late lord's son..
She expresses her thanks for rescuing her buddy, and mentions how you got there "right on time".
You just look into her eyes and see Adaman: the Diamond Clan leader, the kind man who gave you the celestica flute and came to your aid when you got exiled from the village.
He may be gone now, but time didn't allow him to be forgotten.
Because he lives on in somebody else.
Perrin gets concerned when she sees how emotional you're getting, but you just wipe your eyes and say she just reminds you of an "old friend".
When you show her your other Hisuian Pokémon, she's THRILLED and wants to take all of their pictures, delighted to have proof that these creatures existed.
That leads her to ask how you acquired them, and you start talking about your adventures in the very region she's been studying...including the fact you met her ancestor who used to worship Dialga and had an easygoing attitude like her.
Girl is taking notes fr.
Together you seek out the "Bloodmoon Beast", only to discover that it was an Ursaluna who travelled alllll the way to Kitakami from Hisui, the environment causing it to change appearances and abilities.
You were fascinated, wondering what Lord Ursaluna or Calaba would think of him, and made him a member of your team after quelling his rage.
While going on more casual photoshoots with Perrin, you ask her about what Sinnoh is like now or if anyone there knew about Hisui.
She mentions how the elderly folk talk of it, and how the subway battle system was being run by one conductor due to the other going missing...
You find yourself holding your breath---until she says "oh but apparently he came back like yesterday" and you were SO relieved.
'Ingo made it back home, too. Thank you Arceus.'
She plans to invite you to Sinnoh someday, seeing as you're so curious about what it all looks like now.
BB Academy (BBE4, Carmine, & Kieran)
When you got to study abroad at BB Academy, you...sorta forgot all the beef you had with Kieran until you saw him berating a student out in the terarium.
A year later, you're Paldea's champion AND the one who saved Hisui, but you couldn't exactly tell him the latter.
But now you understood why everyone back then calling you a "hero" made you a little uncomfortable.
Ogerpon (who was worried sick about where you've gone all this time), was SO happy to see you were back and got to meet your Hisuian Lilligant. Two plant gals just vibing together.
You find a Kleavor in the canyon biome and become a bit sentimental, happy to see a descendant of the Lord of the Woods had survived to this very day.
He must've known you were the one who helped his ancestor (albeit not without receiving some scars from flying wood chips), as he bowed and began walking alongside you, loyal to a tee.
Least to say, he became a valuable ally when you finally battled Kieran in the championship.
He sees that you've definitely changed a lot, too. You look tougher and he was concerned about where that scar across your eye came from....
But he's still obsessed with winning, and his attitude when talking about Terapagos afterwards reminds you of...well...Volo.
It's such an extreme comparison, and you hate how your brain immediately jumped to that considering that was a legitimate monster of a man who betrayed you.
Yet it feels like such a similar situation when Kieran pits the turtle against you in the Underdepths, obsessed with power and wanting nothing more than to be recognized as "worthy".
At least he wasn't planning on ending the world, just yours.
After you both reconcile, you spill the beans about where you've gone for the past year, expecting him to laugh or shun you again for keeping such a big secret from him.
Instead..he has this star-eyed look and wanted to know MORE.
So during your next visit to Kitakami, you tell him and Carmine some stories of your Hisuian adventures, showing off Kleavor and your Alpha Garchomp.
Seeing that you still liked to make authentic pokeballs and potions made Kieran appreciate you a lot more. Kitakami used to have a lot of those apricorns, tumblestones, and leeks before everything became mass-produced.
Like him, you really became out-of-touch with today's technology, so while he's learning it, you're re-learning it along with him.
Eventually you tell those same stories to the BB E4, who are all just as shocked, amazed, and bewildered as the twins were.
And when they all came to offer up a trade, you knew what to do:
For Drayton, you gave him a Goomy, insisting that he trains it fully, not wanting to spoil the "surprise".
As lazy as he is, he does so and is stunned when Sliggoo is revealed to be chilling in its own shell, and Goodra had its whole shell on its tail, capable of withdrawing into it anytime
Ngl it makes him wish he had his own shell to withdraw into just to escape situations.
For someone like Kieran who likes old-fashioned stuff, you figured a Hisuian Voltorb would suit him best.
Its appearance reminds you of the olden ways pokeballs were made, and he got the hang of crafting a few himself after a little trial and error!
He gets nervous about it exploding like Kantonian Voltorbs at the slightest touch, but is happy to find out it's super friendly and discharges just to spook humans.
As for Carmine, the sharpness in her golden eyes reminds you of a certain ghost type's...and thus you believed giving her a Hisuian Zorua was ideal. You had a feeling she'd love its evolved form.
When she does evolve it, she's stunned that it has reddish highlights like she does, jokingly asking if this is her in "another life".
Least to say, she loves it indeed.
While you were adamant about giving Amarys your Kleavor, you ended up trading her a Scyther and give her a black augurite afterwards, explaining how it's the secret to its other evolution.
She mentioned deposits of that mineral existing within the canyon biome, but it couldn't actually evolve the surrounding Scyther population due to being simulated.
But thanks to you, she gets to witness that in-action because you held onto an authentic piece of it, and she gives you her thanks.
As for Crispin, well, you believed a Hisuian Growlithe was perfect for him. It was energetic, loyal, and full of fire..just like him.
He got teary-eyed at the story you told of the late Lord Arcanine, his son, how you quelled his frenzy, etc..and feels inspired to train the pup you've given him into something incredible.
One thing Kantonian and Hisuian Arcanines have in common? They love spicy foods.
For Lacey, you trade her a Hisuian-born Petili, encouraging her to use the sun stone right away.
She does and is delighted to see Lilligant as such a graceful dancer..who really packs a punch when it counts!
She'll definitely doll her up and ensure she knew Charm (the only fairy move Hisuian Lilligant could know, alas).

I’m laughing at the thought of both Amarys and Juliana having a crush on Kieran but not even knowing they do.
Like in the club room Amarys tells Juliana how she’s been feeling whenever she thinks of him and Juliana kinda just nods along with what she’s saying and then’s like:
Juliana: Whoa really? Hm… now that you mentioned it, I’ve been feeling something like that whenever I think of Kieran too…
Juliana: Kinda strange huh?
Juliana: Oh well! I’m sure it’s nothing! :D
Amarys: Well… maybe you’re right. Perhaps I’m just overthinking it?
And then we have Carmine who happens to overhear the whole thing knowing exactly what this is and internally groans burying her face in her hands.
Imagine dealing with two of your closest friends having a crush on your sibling?
Carmine knows things are going to be very torturous for her whenever she mentions her brother to either of them from here on out.

DLC Girlie Headcanons
Tumblr media
Happy Valentine’s day. Happy early birthday to me. Happy late first anniversary of this blog. Don’t expect this to be as profound or long as the first scarvio post, but it is a post, so have fun with it.
Also, I didn’t include Briar here because I wasn’t satisfied with what I wrote for her and just ended up scrapping it. Might come back to her one day. And yes I know the Carmine gif is big but I liked it and couldn't find one I liked more.
Tumblr media
Carmine, my love. I know I already made a whole post for her not too long ago, but I can still add more (and there are also only three others on the list sooo). This time, though, things can take place post Kieran joker arc.
Of course, she’s still Carmine. She’s a bit overprotective and jealous and kind of a bitch, especially when at the academy because a certain Drayton will lazily and jokingly flirt with you just to get on her nerves. Don’t play into his flirtations, or else she’ll be mad at both of you (temporarily at you, permanently at toothpaste hair). She won’t stop you from hanging out with other people, though. That is, of course, unless it’s Drayton, who she will literally drag you away from.
She doesn’t really boss you around like she does her brother, but she will often ask you to help her with whatever she’s working on. It’s totally because she needs you to lend a hand and not because she likes having you plastered to her side. Sometimes she’ll ask you to come help her with a task and the task in question is just hanging out with Amarys.
Carmine does actually take her studies fairly seriously, especially when she’s helping Briar. Spends a good deal of time studying, and might pressure you to join her if you are falling behind. Surprisingly, she’s a pretty good study-buddy. If you’re really struggling with a subject, she can probably explain it in pretty understandable terms, as long as you can brush aside her occasional insults, of course. Might reward you with a kiss or two if you do really well.
You’re allowed to be a little mean to Kieran, as a treat, but know your place. She loves you, yeah, but she’d probably side with her baby brother over you if push comes to shove. You can tease him a bit and slide in some snide comments here and there, but if you take things too far she will be upset. I know I said you could be a little mean, but don’t be, like, mean mean to him. He’s been through enough.
Speaking of, Kieran thinks you’re pretty cool. Little guy doesn’t really have friends, and being a recovering joker acr victim doesn’t help that fact. He knows you, you’ve been in his life’s peripheral vision for a good deal of time, being attached to Carmine and whatnot, and he thinks you’re wicked cool. No matter how much time passes, he will always watch on with stars in his eyes when you are showing off your skills. He’d love nothing more than to have a match with you sometime.
I wouldn’t say Kieran’s like Hop is for Sonia, where he would go out of his way to play matchmaker, but he does silently lay in hope that you two stay together, and their grandparents feel the same. They might partake in some light teasing whenever they see you together, which is often, but they aren’t really pushy with it. Not the kind of people to press Carmine about when you’ll get married or give them great grandchildren or anything.
When Kieran is in his villain arc, Carmine will ask you to help keep an eye on him. She’s worried out of her mind with how odd he was acting, and really wanted to find the root cause. Once the whole Terapagos ordeal blows over, expect the two to come find you and tackle you into a group hug, both blabbering on about how they almost died and how much they care for you. A similar thing probably happens after the Pecharunt situation ends, as well.
You know… a lot of scarvio characters could totally be melded into yanderes if you just exaggerated their traits a wee bit. Not saying that any of them are, we’re not doing the whole “Nemona’s a yandere” bit, but Carmine could easily fit the bill. She’s bitchy, a bit overprotective, and can easily become violent. Nothing more to add here, it's just a passing thought.
Following my original scarvio post, I am morally obligated to include a point of slander for each girl. Carmine has said at least a few slurs in her life. In, like, a Lana del Rey way, specifically with that one kid who was in Stranger Things (why did she do that it was just completely unprompted). Would casually drop a slur in someone’s general direction for literally no reason. Hater energy.
Tumblr media
Perrin’s pretty cool. I don’t like her as much as her supposed great great great grandmother, but I’m not here to pin two bad bitches against each other. Regardless of her ancestors, she’s still cute and artsy, and we love that for her.
She’s kind of funny to me more than anything. She would just go up to you one day, saying shit like “Hey babe, I’m feeling really unmotivated right now :{ so I’m gonna take a trip to a small, distant island to take pictures of a fucked up beast”. Don’t try to talk her out of it, she’ll already be on the plane.
When she’s feeling low, she likes to take pictures of you. They aren’t used for anything, not making their way into her portfolio, just her little personal collection to look back on and smile at gently. She’ll start by mopily taking half-assed pictures with her phone, but steadily gets more and more into things, setting up her shots and having you pose, eventually pulling out her camera.
Although, it is a bit embarrassing for her after the fact. When she gets really into her shots, she gets super enthusiastic and constantly makes cheesy remarks. Please don’t point this out while she’s working, she’ll get super flustered and totally thrown off her game. She might be able to recover, laughing her comments off sheepishly, or she might be too far gone to continue, dramatically laying down her camera in defeat, hoping you'll give her some affection and out of pity.
However, her love for you, and love for looking at you, isn’t always enough to get her out of a slump, hence why she goes to Kitakami to look for a fucked up beast in hopes of finding her spark again. Getting out and searching for something interesting can help her get back into her groove, and she’ll keep you posted the entire time if you aren’t by her side.
Speaking of, she loves to send you pictures. Constantly. She’ll send breathtaking scenery shots, gorgeous skylines, diverse and adorable wildlife, and Growlithe. It’s mostly just Growlithe if we're being honest. Usually paired with a caption like “he misses you” or “stinky little bastard man has committed a heinous crime (he rolled in the mud).”Particularly loves to send glamor shots of him.
And said stinky little bastard man loves you so much. He likes to follow you around when nearby, trotting on your heels, curious as to where you’re both going. He’ll sit patiently at your feet whenever you have food, and curl up in your lap when you’re sitting down. Perrin’s his favorite still, but you’re a close second. But if you pass him enough scraps under the table and give him good enough scratches, you might be able to sway his opinion.
I don’t remember if the game ever states where Perrin is specifically from, but she gives off country girl energy to me. Maybe it’s just the song that plays when you talk to her, now that I think about it. I don’t know. I think in general she’s also pretty laid back, the kind to go with the flow. Unless she’s in a rut, where it seems like her entire world is falling apart.
She’s not super into PDA, but she doesn’t really get embarrassed with excessive affection, either. She’d prefer to just hold your hand when around other people, maybe rest her arm over your shoulder, but she wouldn’t argue if you wanted more affection than that. Not to say that she doesn’t have any limits, she’s just pretty lax.
However, I also think she’s suave. Not afraid to surprise you by pressing a sudden kiss to somewhere on your face-forehead, cheek, lips-when you lean in close, like if you lean over her shoulder or something along those lines. She does like to see you flustered, but she doesn’t do it too often. After all, if she does this all the time, you would expect it, and then you wouldn’t get flustered at all.
Slander devil emoji. Perrin feels like she’d own a shit ton of shoes. Mainly tennis shoes, methinks. Most of her funds are funneled into her camera and lenses, since she’s a photographer obviously, but her second biggest money sink is her shoe collection. Is kind of protective of them, too, because Growlithe will chew on them if given the opportunity.
Tumblr media
Lacey’s just cute. Which makes sense, because being cute is, like, her whole thing. To her, most everything has some cuteness in it. Nothing can be spared from her cute-detecting gaze.
What more should I really say for her? She’s just a super sweet and kind person and I would kill for her. Actually, I wouldn’t do that, because if I did she would look at me sadly and tell me what I did just wasn’t right. She might be incredibly nice, but she ain’t a pushover. Daddy didn’t raise no bitch.
She’s super touchy feely. Always touching you in some way. Prefers to drape herself over you whenever possible, usually by wrapping herself around one of your arms to lean in close. If she can’t, then she’ll gladly link pinkies with you, as she believes that’s way cuter than just holding hands.
Massive cuddlebug. Whenever you are sitting or laying down, she’ll immediately jump into the spot next to you and hold you close. She’s practically nodding off by the time she gets comfortable, too warm and comfy to want to get up. Her pokemon, especially her Granbull, tend to pile up around you as well. Will complain and beg you to stay if you try to get up before she’s ready (she will never be ready). She’s also guilty of baby talk. Take that as you will.
Her pokemon in general are pretty cuddly, as well, but some are better snugglers than others. Like, Excadrill is a real sweetheart, but she’s also got massive claws and hard noggin made of steel, which aren’t the most um pleasant. And Slowbro is a little bit toxic, so be careful. Omg I forgot she had a Primarina. I love Primarina, that's my favorite starter. I’m gonna end this point here before I ramble into infinity, sorry.
Feels very into arts and crafts. She’d break out the macaroni and Elmer's glue unprompted in the league club room and everyone flocks to her, watching her and her art supplies like impoverished children about to receive their daily rations. Everyone joins in, even if they don’t want to or don’t see the point in it. Drayton loves the crafts more than anyone else, barring Lacey herself, but he usually tries to get other people to do the work for him.
I also feel like she would try to turn the league club into a band at least twice. Imagine Lemonade Mouth (aka the best disney channel original movie), but with the BB elite four. No matter how hard she tries, it always devolves into absolute chaos. Maybe one day she will get to live her band kid dreams to their fullest.
ASMR Clay kills you via excruciatingly intense eye contact because you’re dating his baby girl.mp4. He is prime overprotective dad material, and he is so stubborn at first. He acts all big and tough in front of you when you first meet, mainly because that’s just how he is, but eventually warms up to you. Don’t expect to be too close, though. “Warming up” just means that he tolerates you.
Anyways, thinking of Clay makes me think of “Heartwarming: Watch this dad totally accept his gay daughter coming out then eat 12 tacos”. He’s very accepting of anything she does, even if he’s hard on her when it comes to actually dating. He’s just hesitant to let her grow up, is all. Also, he radiates massive divorced single-dad energy.
Lacey doesn’t like to complain that much, but she does on occasion. In particular, she tends to complain when a certain school director dumps his duties onto her. It’s usually not very heated, just a brief vent about how it totally wasn’t right, hand gestures and all.
When venting, she usually prefaces that what she says might be a little mean or too much, but then she says something very reasonable and tame. Also seems like the type to apologize when she rambles on about something or other, no matter how many times you tell her that she’s fine.
Lacey slander is that she absolutely uses Texan slang. What in tarnation is the one she uses the most, but do not doubt her ability to spout country slang out of nowhere. Also owns at least one cowboy hat. And a pair of cowboy boots. She’s got the whole cowboy ensemble, actually.
Tumblr media
Amarys, while not outwardly emotional, is also a very sweet and caring person. Facial emoting just isn’t her thing. I’m struggling to put my thoughts into words with her, because my mind is just automatically defaulting to “Amarys my beloved” instead of forming actual, tangible ideas.
I don’t think Amarys is terrible with emotions, she just isn’t good at showing them. Particularly on her face. She prefers to express her feelings through words and actions, even if they come off as robotic and stringent. They’re coming from the heart, honest. She does like to make fun little gestures with her hands, as well, like making hearts.
Despite being relatively fine at navigating her own emotions, there are certain concepts that stump her, mainly concepts that are more abstract, one’s that lack clearly defined definitions. For instance, she asks Lacey in the league room what constitutes being cute. Sometimes, she’ll approach you and ask questions about these concepts, just to gauge your expert opinion on such topics.
I feel like she has a hefty pocket watch collection. I don’t have much more to add, mainly because I don’t know much about pocket watches outside of them existing. I don’t think she’s an avid collector per say, I feel like she’s just accumulated them over time, mainly from getting them as gifts over the years.
She comes off as someone who’s a little hard to shop for, so most people tend to just get her a watch when gift giving because it’s something useful and she clearly likes them. She doesn’t mind receiving them, even if many of them don’t get used because she just has too many. At the very least, she has plenty of backup replacements if the one she uses breaks, and is also willing to share if you ever wanted to borrow one.
Lowkey a worrywart. If you mention feeling wrong or down or just have issues in general, she’ll keep checking in with you until she’s certain you are doing better. Not in, like, an overbearing way, though. She’s not hounding you constantly, just bringing it up when she sees you, or texting if you haven’t seen each other in a bit. It’s a good way to see how much she cares for you. It’s part of her love language, if you will.
Amarys is a very good person to confide in, regardless if you’re dating her or not. She’s a great listener and is always level-headed. She doesn’t have advice for every given situation, but her calm nature can help keep you grounded when venting, which really helps on top of the effect that venting generally has.
I’m split between thinking Amarys spends at least an hour in the morning styling her hair or believing that’s just how she always looks. I would assume that she takes her hair down every night, because her hairstyle doesn’t seem very comfortable to sleep in, and also seems like it would be messed up pretty easily. But the idea that she just always exists with this very specific hairstyle is kind of funny to me.
On that note, she is pretty good at styling hair in general. You don’t get that hair without having dexterous and skillful hands. Show her a picture of the style you want and she can probably get pretty damn close. Also good with hair dye jobs, as I assume she dyes some of her hair gray. Actually, maybe she doesn’t, because her eyebrows are gray. I don’t know what to believe anymore.
Gets dragged into Carmine’s antics a lot. She usually plays the straight man in comparison to Carmine’s… Carmine-ness. She can talk her friend out of her more ludicrous ideas, but she joins in on Carmine’s antics every now and then. Has had to talk Carmine out of chopping off Drayton’s massive hair tuft on multiple occasions.
While writing this I came across the idea of Amarys being the child of Lenora, the black and white normal gym leader, which I like. Mainly because I like Lenora a lot and she does canonically have a husband, so it would check out pretty well. I have nothing else to add to this, just wanted to mention it because why not.
Amarys slander? Amarys slander tonight queen? I’d say she’s the type of person to correct people’s grammar whenever they make a mistake, in both writing and conversation. This does include using it to “win” pointless arguments online, although she’s also the type to write lengthy responses in those types of arguments, so she already has all of her bases covered, but that doesn’t change her grammar correcting ways.

If you're wondering, Carmine and Amarys' ship name is "FingerHeartShipping"
Which is so cute considering that Carmine taught Amarys that emote because it would "in sure victory"?
what the hell that's so wholesome (mostly). SORRY.

I happened to find this template at twitter, so I decided to give a try. My favorite shipping are: Attiana (Atticus x Juliana), Florenny (Florian and Penny), and Arvemona (Arven and Nemona).

How I can imagine dipplinshipping’s wedding going based on my own opinions
Carmine- mad because she has a minor role, decorator
Penny- maid of honor
Nemona-Ring bear
Arven-gives Juliana to Kieran
Drayton-not invited =)
Lacey-in charge of the cake and the food
Crispin- best man(idk why)
Mela-bridesmaid #1
Eri-Bridsmaid#2
Atticus- caught the bouquet but gave it to another couple
Ortega- plays the piano for the reception
Giacomo-in charge of music
Amarys- there for Carmine’s sanity
Miraidon/Koraidon-stands with Juliana
Kieran and Juliana are both super nervous. Juliana’s dress has Applin inspired elements to it so does Kieran’s suit.
Idk this just popped into my head

Amarys and Cereza
In my opinion, Drayton already introduces so much of a love triangle (that he is totally just using to get on Kieran's nerves) that I see absolutely no reason to pit these two against each other when obviously they would make hilarious friends. Here are my sources on Cereza's side: Cereza has a soft spot for steel types. Her biggest idol is Peony, a steel type specialist (and also her best friend's DAD, I'll definitely delve deeper into her best friendship with Penny someday), she admires Steven Stone because in her words "I have functioning eyeballs that can see", and two of her Pokémon are steel types (partially because of aforementioned idols). So Cereza is taking the Amarys fight seriously, she's being attentive and is buying a little bit into the "fighting over who gets to save Kieran" spiel. She even listens to the after spiel of Amarys taking her defeat so gracefully. Then Cereza can't take it. She runs up to Amarys with an excited grin, practically starstruck as she grabs Amarys's shoulders saying "YOU ARE SO COOL!!!" and lets go and just rants about how awesome that battle was and how she thinks that Amarys is basically the bomb.com. "I mean I had to clench my jaw to keep it from DROPPING when you whipped out that Metagross- I got Steven Stone level chills and that's saying something, have you SEEN that man?" She goes on like this until Amarys gathers her bearings (the outburst startled her, needless to say) and clears her throat and politely asks "Would you like a photo to-" and she doesn't even finish before Cereza is gasping and giggling with excitement with a "Hell yeah!" Anyway, Amarys and Cereza are now unconventional besties, she, Cereza, and Carmine get to have sleepovers in Carmine's room in which they have to trick Amarys into coming over since it's technically against the rules. I also thought of a scene where Amarys would take the gang on a tour of Castelia City, her hometown, and her schedule of places to hit is so jampacked that the gang spends practically no time in any given location. It sucks a lot of the fun from the trip and the gang is starting to get tired of it. Cereza sees this and asks Amarys if there are any places that are special that she can highlight, any big points and Amarys just freezes as she looks at her list, dead silent as the decision paralysis sets in. Cereza realizes it's because Amarys has a lot of pride and love for her hometown and suggests "Hey, let's stop by a cafe and work out the schedule while the gang wanders and revisits the places they didn't get to fully experience, kay?" That way Amarys can fix her schedule (which Cereza recognizes is important to her) while also getting to talk to Cereza about all the places she loves about the city. Time flies by and before the girls know it, it's time to go. Amarys apologizes for not actually taking Cereza to all the places she talked about, and Cereza grins and says "the way you talked about it, it's like I was right there with you" Anyway, second love triangle demolished. I'm going after Drayton next. No love triangle is safe.
