2022 Bates Predictions Review

No baby for 2022. The house is looking great though.

Unfortunately no baby this year. They have been promoting their business a lot but it doesn't seem like Michael has been allowed to get a job so she can use her degree.

Erin hasn't really commented on her ovaries this year but thankfully Finley was born healthy. I was wrong about the house as they've moved to Florida.

Lawson and Tiffany married in May. No attendance from Bindi but yes I'd say it was over the top compared to some of the other weddings.

Nathan and Esther announced their pregnancy on Mother's Day and their daughter Kenna Joy was born in October, which is pretty much the end of the year.

I was wrong about the pregnancy announcement but right about them adding to the family in the next few years. I knew Maci wasn't their final child.

Tori was indeed pregnant when I wrote my predictions. She and Bobby welcomed Cambree (no K name) in August.

Trace and Lydia got engaged quicker than I was expecting with their engagement in March and wedding in October.

Turns out Layla unfortunately wasn't the only one experiencing health issues this year. Zade was born in mid March, they moved house but kept Izzy.

No pregnancy announcement for these two.

Katie did struggle with being away from her family and there were a lot of trips to see her in New Jersey. Baby #1 was announced in August and Hailey James is due in March.

Jackson didn't join the police and instead got himself a girlfriend. Kelly sadly lost her mom. It was a fairly quiet year for everyone else.

He is the second child of Evan&Carlin Stewart (Bates). He has a sister, Layla (3).

What Did Fundies Even Do This Year (Bates Edition)

This is based strictly on a quick review of Instagram and only for the ones I’ve previously kept up with (or remembered existed).

Zach - Whit is primarily on the account, she just seems very genuinely, contagiously happy. She’s got the down home influencer vibe mastered

Michaela - she’s living what appears to be an active and fulfilled life. I’m happy to say it appears her comment section has become a lot less despicable

Erin - Chad still has Tree I Wanna Climb energy fyi as for Erin she’s uh still selling doodles of flowers with Bible verses

Lawson - had a baby partially named after himself and is currently competing in a Most Cringe Profile Pic contest (he’s winning)

Nathan - baby number 2. Also he’s started looking so much like Zach, Gil’s genes didn’t always come out on top but when they did , wow

Alyssa - launched … a hat ?? John also remains an acceptable tree of a man.

Trace - announced baby number 2. Also, seems to be THE Medicorps spokesperson, honestly is it mostly his thing because none of the brothers post about it as much as he does

Madeline “Matty” Matlock takes the stand as a new take on a familiar favorite in Matlock Season 1, Episode 1 “Pilot.” Written by Jennie Snyder Urman and directed by Kate Cairo, this legal drama breaks away from the one you may know to carve out space for a fresh case with compelling characters and a gripping serialized arc. 

This series premiere cleverly and quickly separates itself from Andy Griffith’s Ben Matlock and his NBC/ABC series. It’s never a question whether this series is a continuation of that one, which could’ve become a long-running doubt. Instead, this episode uses the distinction to set up a satisfying bookend and emphasize Matlock’s tone.

Meanwhile, Matlock – mostly Leah Lewis’ Sarah – also uses the thinly veiled connections between Matty and Griffith’s character to joke about other famous on-screen lawyers. Matlock almost exhausts all those jokes (Down to playing the original Matlock theme song!) in the series premiere to make way for its much stickier plot, revealed in the end.

Even before that twist unwinds to the opening scene, this episode proves it can balance a healthy sense of humor with weightier storylines.

This pilot goes from Matty pretending to be a family friend so a man will offer up any information he may know to Matty having a genuine, heartfelt conversation with Carlin about her sobriety. The hilarity and sincerity come in equal measure, mainly for Matty, like when she bonds with Cherlene about finding a man who knows where the clitoris is. Those scenes have so much range, which bodes well for the series.

It’s no wonder that Matlock’s first episode hones in on “Matty” Matlock. That character is well-defined by the final minute because Madeline offers her entire life story throughout the episode. It feels as though there’s no stone left unturned because the biggest one is that “Matty” is a facade for Madeline’s quest for justice for her daughter.

It’s an excellent bait and switch that Matlock Season 1, Episode 1, “Pilot,” builds up to well.

It’s surprising, but it doesn’t come out of nowhere. Even in the show’s promotion, there are context clues (Using Britney Spears’ “Oops!…I Did It Again”) that something is coming. Contextually, Matty’s resourceful tactics to get the job at Jacobson Moore and the premise of “nobody sees us coming” encourage viewers not to underestimate this character. 

Regardless, the twist has so many complex, moving parts that it’s challenging to fully guess where it will go until the camera reveals Matty’s board of strings and suspects.

In the meantime, the series premiere suggests Matlock will strengthen the core interpersonal relationships to maximize any emotional and professional fallout. For example, this episode does some work to build trust between Matty, Billy, and Sarah, specifically on that back patio. Likewise, it teases the meaty story between the recently separated co-workers Julian and Olympia. Olympia and her “forever” father-in-law, Senior, also have a supportive relationship that will hopefully be explored further.

However, where Matlock truly succeeds is the dynamic between Bates’s Matty and Skye P. Marshall’s Olympia. Matty has more scenes with Sarah and Billy as she works the case and learns some of the ins and outs at Jacobson Moore. Still, the relationship between Matty and Olympia becomes the crux of Matlock’s series debut.

It pays off, too, because it’s disappointing to see Olympia on Madeline’s board of suspects. Matlock Season 1, Episode 1, “Pilot,” introduces Olympia as anything but one-not or periphery. Undoubtedly, Olympia holds as much importance to this series as Matty.

That alone stirs up such great conflict between Matty and Olympia, doubling as another character-based hook for this procedural series. 

Olympia, who is walking the tightrope to make senior partner, must rely on Matty as a team member. Meanwhile, Matty has to maintain a cover to uncover the truth that could help the woman and law firm that may have played a broader part in her daughter’s death. The characters and layers of all of this are fascinating.

Matlock premieres into a slate already chock-full of procedural shows: other new additions, long-running series, and spinoffs of those shows fill up CBS and other networks.

Matlock has to stand among them but also apart from them, and this pilot proves it’s more than capable of both. This episode raises expectations and twists them on their heads without ever diminishing them. Matlock maintains momentum even after the screen fades to black, which is quite the impression to leave with a pilot.

Carlin apparently posted this on Instagram, using the reddit version because she did not censor any of the other kids faces on her page 😬.

The reddit thread was a nightmare of course because the original poster was criticizing her church's user of "Indian" costumes, and it was pretty surprising how many people in the comments didn't have an issue with this....... like yea it's not kids fault of course, but it's still a problem.

Not to mention, I've noticed Carlin seems to have a real issue with sharing images of other kids on her very public account (and if we're living in reality, not every follower on that account is there for her with how often she posts her kids). Someone mentioned that she got in hot water with one of the parents at Layla's ballet class for sharing their daughter's images without permission which feels so justified. Carlin is so used to just plastering her little kids all over social media that it doesn't even occur to her other parents might not be comfortable doing the same...............

Anyway all around pretty gross, Carlin.

What is the childcare situation when you go to work

They have a sitter who also has a little girl

Sometimes the girls at home help but not as much anymore since they are getting busier as they get older.

They used to take them into work.

Has your faith/convictions changed as you have gotten older?

The faith has not changed at all

"Standards" have changed a lot. They say this is normal as you become your own family.

How many more babies do you want?

When they first got married, they wanted 6. Evan was one of 6. After Layla, they wanted 5. After Zade, they wanted 4. Now they want 3 or 4. Evan thinks if health is good, they will have 4.

Will they homeschool Layla?

They don't know. They want to accomodate their learning styles and take it year by year.

Will they go to the farm on the 4th?

Yes. They don't know who else will go. Recently, someone goes every week or every other week to help Jane with Bill

How did Evan's family feel about the cameras?

Evan's family doesn't mind it much

Evan loves filmmaking so he liked the BTS of it all. It was a tad awkward when you first start dating and there's cameras, though.

Is Zade taking speech?

The pediatrician says to give him a little more time. Zade has started talking a lot more.

Not when they were dating. He was just a guest. He did get perks like gas and food. Each child and child-in-law under Gil's corporation got paid.

No and they never have. Carlin might have accidentally in Mexico.
