Is the spiritual person a conspiracy theorist? A list of red flags

They talk about a shadowy group of people supposedly manipulating everything behind the scenes. They might refer to them by terms such as globalists, bankers, international bankers, secret rulers of the world, the elite, the cabal, Kabbalists, Talmudists, satanists, satanic pedophiles, pedophiles, generational satanists, satanic bloodlines, the Illuminati, the Babylonian Brotherhood, lizard people, Reptilians, Orions, regressives, regressive entities, Khazarians, Marxists, cultural Marxists, or leftists. Sometimes, very rarely, they'll just come right out and say "Jews."

They claim that the conspiracy has been working to conceal historical and spiritual truths from humanity.

They claim that the conspiracy uses stuff like food, entertainment, and medicine to control the masses. For example, "additives in food suppress our psychic abilities" or "Hollywood films contain subliminal messages" or "COVID vaccines were actually created to alter your DNA to make you more docile."

Also, claims that the conspiracy controls people via spiritual or technological implants, 5G, or alter programming, with or without explicit mention of Project Monarch (a conspiracy theory promoted by far right cranks such as Mark Philips and Fritz Springmeier, who used hypnosis to respectively convince Cathy O'Brien and Cisco Wheeler that they'd been put under mind control by a global satanic conspiracy).

They claim that this conspiracy is controlling the media, has fingers in every institution they disagree with, and is generally behind everything they disagree with. (EG, the conspiracy created the Catholic Church; that other New Ager they disagree with is actually controlled opposition, etc.)

They claim that the conspiracy is trying to keep people in fear.

They claim that the conspiracy harvests something from people. Blood and adrenochrome are common ones. Loosh is somewhat less common. Expect to see something else pop up eventually.

They claim that the conspiracy practices genetic engineering; EG, creating animal/human hybrids, using vaccines to genetically sever people's connection to God, etc.

They claim that true spiritual wisdom can be traced back to places like Atlantis, Lemuria, or Mu.

They claim that world governments have secretly been in contact with extraterrestrials for years.

They appeal to known frauds and cranks, including but not limited to Erich Von Daniken, Zechariah Sitchin, David Icke, David Wilcock, Graham Hancock, Jaime Maussan, Bob Lazar, Steven Greer, Richard C. Hoagland, Fritz Springmeier, and Drunvalo Melchizedek.

Appeals to forged documents, including but not limited to the alleged diary of Admiral Richard Byrd, The Emerald Tablets of Thoth the Atlantean, and The Urantia Book.

Appeals to channeled information, such as that provided by Edgar Cayce, Carla Rueckert, or George Van Tassel.

"But all of this has to come from somewhere, doesn't it?"

Oh, it all comes from somewhere, all right, but the where isn't what most people imagine.

A lot of the stuff above is just a modern spin on the content of The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion, a Russian hoax created to justify violence against Russian Jews. The Protocols itself was plagiarized from a political satire and incorporated a lot of the post-French Revolution conspiracy theories about Freemasons and Jews being behind the French Revolution. I wrote a summary of the conspiracy tropes found in The Protocols over here.

The stuff about Satanic sacrifices and the consumption of blood, adrenochrome, loosh, or whatever are simply just variations on blood libel, an antisemitic conspiracy theory that claims Jews practice ritual cannibalism. Blood libel can be traced back to ancient Greece. (With the Greek version, I really can't help but notice the similarity to modern urban legends of gangsters kidnapping random people for initiation rituals.)

Many of these tropes can also be linked back to the early modern witch hunts. It was believed that witches sacrificed babies to Satan, practiced cannibalism, and put people under mind control by way of diabolical magic. It was also believed that some witches didn't even know they were witches; they'd go off to attend the Devil's Sabbath at night and come back in the morning without remembering a thing. In the late 20th century, this witch hunter's canard would be reinvented as the alter programming conspiracy theory when media such as the 1973 book Sibyl and its 1976 television adaptation put DID (note: the woman who inspired Sibyl did not have DID) into the public consciousness. For a more complete list of witch panic and blood libel tropes, I wrote a list over here.

Lemuria was a hypothetical landmass proposed to explain the presence of lemur fossils in Madagascar and India while being absent in continental Africa and the rest of Asia, because if lemurs evolved naturally, they wouldn't be in two separate places with no connection to each other. The discovery that India and Madagascar were once connected not only made the hypothesis obsolete, it precludes the existence of Lemuria.

The whole notion of Mu began with a horrendous mistranslation of the Troano manuscript. A man named Augustus Le Plongeon would link the mistranslation with the story of Atlantis, and use it to claim that Atlantis actually existed in the Americas. (For Plongeon, Mu and Atlantis were one and the same.) And then other people (like James Churchward) got their hands on the whole Mu thing, and put their own spins on it, and the rest is history.

Le Plongeon's ideas influence modern Atlantis mythology today; EG, the idea that it was in the Americas. Another guy who helped shape the modern Atlantis myth was Ignatius L. Donnelly, an American politician. Dude claimed that Atlanteans spread their oh-so-superior culture far and wide. He also claimed that Atlantis was the home of the Aryan people, because of course he did.

The idea that all of the world's wisdom can be traced back to Thoth/Hermes goes back to Hermeticism, a product of Greco-Egyptian syncretism. Hermeticism produced a fascinating body of mythology and an interesting way to consider the divine and its role in shaping human history, but that doesn't mean it was right. And the Emerald Tablets of Thoth the Atlantean is a modern text that has fuck-all to do with ancient Hermeticism and more to do with HP Lovecraft.

This idea that the conspiracy uses pharmaceutical drugs and vaccines for evil also has roots in Nazi Germany. The Nazi government, wanting to reserve real medicine for their soldiers, told the general populace that said medicine was the product of evil Jewish science and prescribed alternative healing modalities instead. (Said alternative healing modalities did not particularly work.) It also echoes the old conspiracy theories about Jews spreading the Black Death by poisoning wells.

The idea that the conspiracy uses genetic manipulation to create subhuman beings or sever humanity from the divine is a permutation of the Nazi conspiracy theory that Jews are trying to destroy the white race through race mixing. The idea of evil reptilian DNA goes back to the ancient serpent seed doctrine, which is indeed old, but no less pure hateful nonsense for it.

"But there's got to be somebody up to something rotten out there!"

Oh sure. But these people aren't skulking around in the shadows. They're acting pretty openly.

The Heritage Foundation has been working to push this country into Christofascism since the early 1970's. They're the ones responsible for the rise of the Moral Majority and the election of Ronald Reagan. They're also the ones behind Project 2025, which intends to bring us deeper into Christofascism. (Among many other horrible things, they intend to outlaw trans people as "pornographic.")

The Seven Mountains Mandate is another movement pushing for Christofascism. They intend to seize the "seven spheres" of society, which include education, religion, family, business, government/military, arts/entertainment, and media.

There's also the ghoulish American Evangelicals who support Israel because they think that current events are going to bring about the Second Coming of Jesus and cement the formation of a global Christofascist empire. Don't let their apparent support of Jews fool you - they believe that the good Jews will become Christians and the bad ones will go to hell.

All of these people are working toward monstrously horrific goals, but none of them are part of an ancient megaconspiracy. In fact, these are the kinds of people pushing the myth of the ancient megaconspiracy. From the witch hunts to Nazi Germany to the American Evangelical movement, if history has taught us anything, the people pushing the conspiracy theories are always the bad guys.

Which book should I read next?

Inspired by @ckerouac - I picked out one book from each of my eight bookshelves** - one that I haven't read and that's been on my TBR list for a while. I'm letting you guys decide which one to read! Let me know what you think! And I'll read the one you pick next....

Some known benevolent dire wraiths:

Back when Soundwave first met Rom, he had strong disagreements against the policy of killing wraiths on sight. Disagreements which as seen up here, he was not at all afraid to voice.

Unsurprising, considering his stance on equality and how you’re made/born not defining you.

Scarlett, of GI Joe is also against this policy too, defending a wraith colleague with:

And there is substantial evidence in IDW verse too, that they were both absolutely right to protest against the “they’re always chaotically evil” belief.

For instance, with a warning for spoilers being given here:

The Greer family possesses two, Carl Greer and Carla Greer, a father and daughter duo who also both serve as “Doc Snr.” and “Doc Jnr.” is GI Joe respectively.

Doc Snr. is not Earth born. He came to Earth some point but became attached and genuinely wanted the best for it. Hence his involvement with GI Joe.

His species was not discovered until he critically wounded himself taking a blow for a teammate.

Carla, his daughter, is however Earth born as well as half-human. Mostly, the result of this mixed appears to be that, she seems to essentially be a wraith - having the abilities and reading as one to scanners- just with a human looking default form.

Hence how she did not even know of her heritage until she was told. 

She now uses that heritage to aid her in Joe service, at least, as much as she can while upholding her strictly pacifist principles.

The categorisation of Camilla Bryer is more complicated.

As in, she was not born a dire wraith. 

She was born a human only to be later infected by a wraith and start to turn into one.

But the infection was botched when Orphion tried to cure her.

Something he did after she and Rom worked together for a while, taking advantage of her new ability to tap into wraith minds. 

Her ability to control herself was lapsing and other knights located her after she was unable to stop herself from attacking Rom and intervened.

But the attempt to cure her was also botched.

While she was no longer being influenced mentally and that was cured from her, the physical effects were not cured. She turned out to still possess the physical attributes of and limited ability to access wraith magic.

Traits which she continued to use to try assist against hostile wraiths, once she got a better handle of them.

Ruan Sablik is an Earth-born wraith:

He spent his entire life on Earth and viewed it as his home as a result.

He later on joined the US military, his experiences during which resulted in him having PTSD and having to join a support group.

That support group being where he met Darby Mason.

Ultimately, while he’d before had little to do with the wraith hierarchy and had just been getting on with his life, he was called up by them. They wanted him to target Darby and assist in the plot against humans.

He decided no, siding instead with his home planet and revealing his nature to and also offering to help Darby in her plight against the conquering wraiths.

Unfortunately, while the mission was a success and Darby was able to get the Solstar gauntlet promised, Ruan was killed in the process, the wraiths having no tolerance for a “quisling”.

Cons4eva, the online alias of a wraith possibly called Symbols.

Much of his origins, particularly in comparison to others here, are unknown.

But, what is known is that he’s a follower of Temptorian religion and that combined with his Temptorian-esque four arms and scale suggests he was present on their home planet some point.

It’s also known that he’s a social butterfly basically. He wants to interact with and make friends with people instead of killing anyone.

This ultimately leads to him meeting Crankcase online, initially pretending to be a fellow decepticon, when he was so lonely and lost he wanted to find a way to leave the universe entirely.

When that didn’t work out, he went off on a journey of self-reflection and trying to see where he fitted in, declining an offer to join his boyfriend with the Scavengers.

But while the offer to join was declined, he and Crankcase do still remain long-distance boyfriends.

Stardrive is a camien, raised on Elonia after her protoform was rescued by Rom from a destroyed ship.

She later joined the Space Knights and worked to help fight against wraiths.

She went on to defect from them after being disillusioned during a fight which also lead to her meeting other members of her kind.

But now before she herself unknowingly contracted the infection, making her the only known surviving Wraith-Transformer hybrid:

Skip forwards 200 years later, she has managed to retrain control of herself and having fallen in with Prowl, is attempting to use her abilities to work towards a greater good.

Tickle Monster

Eddie pinched the bridge of his nose.

Today had been a complete disaster.

It started with his alarm not going off and him falling out of bed as he realized that he was running late.

Then he hit traffic making him late to work. He wasn’t in trouble or anything, but he did get teased a bit. Buck had traded with someone who needed their shift off, because of course he did, but that meant Buck wasn’t there. Which always messed with Eddie's head.

And there were other little things that had just fucking built up over the course of the day.

And now he had lost his phone. In his house. Literally 5 minutes after getting home. He was supposed to text Buck so he could come over and pick up pizza for dinner. But now, he couldn’t text him.

He was frantically searching the living room, nearly ripping apart the couch even though he hadn’t even gone near the couch since he had been home when he heard a key in the door, and Buck walked in.

“Hey!"Buck greeted cheerfully, but instantly switched once he registered the scene in front of him, "Oh woah, okay. What’s wrong Eds?”

“That’s just it. Nothing. Everything. I don’t know.” There was an edge to Eddie’s voice that was sharp and pointy, but also fragile.

“All right.” Buck took a breath, and placed the pizza box down on the coffee table.

Eddie was practically vibrating in his spot, his eyes darting around the room, trying to figure out where the fuck his phone got off to. Even though his initial need for it was standing in front of him.

Buck placed his hands firmly on Eddie’s biceps, “take a deep breath with me. That’s it. Let’s start small. What are you looking for?”

“My phone. So I can text you.”

“Okay, well I’m here. So that part is taken care of.” Eddie smiled a bit at that, “Let me go check the car. You good if I leave you here for like 2 minutes?”

“Yeah.” And Buck left. Even though he knew that he would be right back, Eddie missed him. Co-dependent much? Shut-up. He just couldn’t get out of his head today.

Buck returned to the main house lifting the phone in victory.

“All right. Anything else I can do for you?”

“Just sit with me for a second.”

So they sat for a few minutes. Buck pressed a few kisses on his boyfriends forehead. And Eddie did not miss that he had his finger carefully resting over his pulse point.

The front door opened and Chris came in. He was old enough now that when Carla dropped him off from school and another adult was home he would walk from the sidewalk to the door by himself.

“Hey superman!” Buck said, a smile creeping onto his lips, and a mischievous look brightening his eyes, “I think your dad needs a visit from the tickle monster!”

Christopher broke out into a big grin and doubled his pace into the living room.

Eddie just glared at his boyfriend as he got into position to tickle his sides.

“I do not need a visit from the tickle monster.” Eddie said, the glare reaching his voice, but Buck could tell that this was the perfect solution.

“Oh really, honeybun?”

Eddie just rolled his eyes trying to hold back a smile.

“Cause I think it’s just what the Doctor ordered, cupcake.” Buck said filled with glee as he finally launched into full tickle mode, grabbing Eddie’s sides, Christopher threw himself into the mix. Eddie tried to escape which only lead to them all of them in a pile on the floor. Giggling until they could no longer breath.

“Thank you.” Eddie finally managed to breath out between laughs and pulling his boys into a hug, “I needed that.”

“I’m hungry.” was Christopher’s response.

“Me too. Good thing we have pizza. And I think tonight is the perfect night to watch The Emperor’s New Groove.” Buck replied extracting himself from the tangled limbs, standing, then throwing a look at Eddie that said, that sound good?

“Sounds like the perfect ending to a bad day.” Eddie said, his body fully relaxing and all the moments of today leaving his thoughts.

A Tribute to MAMIE ANN TOTTEN BARGER AND EDWARD BARGER

Mamie Ann Totten Barger was a woman for all seasons, a woman of courage, strength, and faith.  She valued family above everything else. Before she died, she had said to Carl, “Carl, promise me, you will continue our family reunions.  Do all you can to keep our family together!” “I promise you,” he said.  Of his mother, Carl said, “She was more than just a mother and housewife.  She was my best friend.  A thousand pictures are stored in my mind.  Fond memories have been made and those memories will last forever. Someday there will be a great and grand family reunion.  I will someday join my mother in God’s Heavenly Kingdom where we will sing together, “It Is Well with My Soul.”

Mamie was born in the Settlement Community near Shirley, Arkansas on February 11, 1908 to the late Elias Samuel Totten and Nancy Bradford.   She died at her home in the Pearson Community, Quitman, Arkansas on July 10, 1988.  She is buried in the Shiloh Crossroads Cemetery, Greers Ferry, Arkansas.

A Tribute to EDWARD BARGER

My father, Edward Barger was a nice person.  He was born in Orrick, Ray County, Missouri on March 29, 1897. He died in the Heber Springs Hospital on September 6, 1968.  He is buried in the Shiloh Crossroads Cemetery, Greers Ferry, Arkansas.  He moved to Higden, Arkansas, from Bates City, Lafayette County, Missouri when he was eighteen years old.  He spent most of his life farming.  For the last part of his life he owned two country grocery stories where he sold food, gas, and produce.  He and Mamie were good managers of their money.  They raised big gardens to help feed their large family.    

The Twelve Children of Edward and Mamie Ann Totten Barger:

1.                      Harvey Eugene Barger:  Born on August 21, 1923 in Fairfield Bay, Van Buren County, Arkansas.  He died on October 1, 2011 in the Forte Roots Veterans Hospital in North Little Rock, Arkansas.  He is buried along with his wife Darlene Gee Barger in the Palestine Baptist Cemetery, Quitman, Arkansas.  Harvey and Darlene had four children, Sheryl, Gayla, Kent, and Terry Barger.  All four are still living.

2.                      Chester Barger: Chester Barger was born on August 19, 1925 in Fairfield Bay, Van Buren County, Arkansas.  He died on December 6, 2016 in Heber Springs, Arkansas. He married Letha Smith which is currently living at Southridge Nursing Home in Heber Springs.  Chester and Letha had two children, Johnnie Sue Barger, and Ronnie Dewayne Barger.  Both are still living.

3.                      Louella Imogene Barger Davis was born in Fairfield Bay, Van Buren County, Arkansas on March 25, 1928.  She is currently living at Heritage Place in Conway, Arkansas. She is now 92 years old.  Still doing well.  She and her late husband, Monroe Davis had three children, Joy Ann, Linda, and Tommy.  All three are still living.

4.                      Betty Lou Barger Stark, Gentry was born in Higden, Cleburne County, Arkansas on July 23, 1930.  She died on March 17, 1996 and is buried in the Davis Special Cemetery, Fairfield Bay, Van Buren County, Arkansas.  Betty and her first husband J. D. Stark had one child, Dianne Christina Stark Barnum.  Dianne is deceased.  After her first husband’s death. Betty married Elvin Gentry.  She and her late Husband, Elvin Gentry had four girls, Reva Neil, Evelyn, Tammy, and Ebbie.  All are still living.  Betty and Elvin had one son, Johnnie Gentry.  He is deceased.  

5.                      Flossie Loudean Barger Schoolcraft was born in Higden, Cleburne County, Arkansas on January 5, 1933.  She died on April 9, 2020 at her home place in the Pearson Community, Quitman, Arkansas.  She is buried in the Shiloh Crossroads Cemetery, Greers Ferry, Arkansas. Loudeen and her husband, Lloyd had two children, Peggy Lou Schoolcraft, and David Schoolcraft.  Both are still living.

6.                      Willie Gene Barger was born on September 30, 1935 in Higden, Cleburne County, Arkansas.  He died on July 13, 2016 at his home in the Pearson Community, Quitman, Arkansas.  He married Norma Cooper of Marshall, Arkansas and they have three surviving children: Lucretia Lynn, Gary Gene, and Jennifer Lea.  

7.                      Jimmy Levon Barger was born on January 20, 1939 in Higden, Cleburne County, Arkansas.  He and his wife Guiva Sue Hazelwood have three children: Cynthia, James, and Joshua.  All are still living.  Both Jimmy and Guiva Sue are still living.

8.                      Roy Edward Barger was born on February 16, 1941 in Higden, Cleburne County, Arkansas.  Roy married Margaret Arnhart.  They have three children, Samuel Edward, Roger, and Michelle.  All are still living.

9.                      Carl Junior Barger was born on August 17, 1943 in Higden, Cleburne County, Arkansas.  Carl married Lena Dollar.  They have three children, Carla Lynn, Jeffrey Christopher, and Jonathan Curtis Barger.  All are still living.

10.            Ella Mae Barger Francis was born on February 14, 1946 in Higden, Cleburne County, Arkansas.  Ella Mae died on October 21, 2020 in West Plains, Missouri. She and her first husband had three children: Sheila, Beverly, and Ricky Flowers.

11.            Marie Ann Barger was born in September 1949 in the Heber Springs Hospital, and died in September 1949. She is buried along side of her parents Edward and Mamie Barger in the Shiloh Crossroads Cemetery, Greers Ferry, Arkansas.

12.            Leona Faye Barger was born on November 5, 1951, Heber Springs, Cleburne County, Arkansas.  She is married to Bobby Bittle.  She and Bob have two children: Carey and Brent.  All are still living
