Hello, if it's alright, could I request a Toby, Slenderman, EJ, and Jane the Killer x reader (separately) in which the reader (in most cases) doesn't know that they're injured until they look down at the injury? Not exactly to the extent of cipa, but more like they don't feel the pain or even notice it until they look down and see the injury.
If not that's ok too. Either way, have a good day!
Various crps x injured!reader who doesnt realize theyre injured
idk if theres a term for it but this happens to me sometimes </3 the amount of times id randomly find bruises or cuts and start feeling the pain as soon as a acknowledge the injury hisshiss characters: ticci toby, slenderman, jane the killer, eyeless jack notes: reader is gn cws: mentions of injuries
Tumblr media
SLENDERMAN
he almost has a sixth sense when it comes to you, so its likely that he knows youre hurt before you do... though to be fair, with how long it takes you to notice that isnt... very impressive/lh
he does not wait for you to actually notice the damage, he goes into caregiver mode- taking you to clean the wound if its open and wrapping it if needed
does not have any answers for why you dont notice the pain at first but thats mostly because hes not skilled or educated in that sort of thing- you can only learn so much by observing others from far away and living in the woods
TICCI TOBY
you both passively lean into one another to keep track of the others wounds; you dont notice yours for a while, and neither does toby- though your scenarios arent exactly the same, you help each other take care of any nasty wounds that could get nastier if left untreated
in a way he finds himself relating to you on some level, because even temporarily you dont feel pain- you both may end up talking about your experiences
that being said, the two of you may not take cuts and bruises as seriously as you should because "well i can still function/i didnt notice the pain before- so its fine!" mentality, its... not the best way to go about things...
EYELESS JACK
headcanon that he was into medical stuff before getting all goopy and cannibalistic, so even if he doesnt immediately know whats going on he can cook up some theories-
that being said hes going to get onto you for leaving wounds uncleaned and uncovered, and will make it a habit to check over you every now and then to make sure youre not hurt... looks in places that are hard to look (back, neck, stuff like that)
always keeps a pack of Band-Aids/bandages on him at all times for general use, keeps other stuff at his place for worse injuries- disinfectants and needles to stich things up- hopefully it wont ever have to come to that, though
JANE THE KILLER
if youre the type to joke about your wounds to make the atmosphere lighter, its not going to work on jane... not because shes worried (okay... she is....) but because shes just.. not amused by that sort of humor
like jack, shes going to be stern and make sure youre taking better care of yourself and taking the time to look over yourself, as well as teaching you basic first aid if you've decided to skip over that
does not try to control you, shes not going to stop you from getting into a fight or doing something a little risky (within reason, if the situation seems too.. intense... itd be different), because even despite your little... situation... she has enough trust in you not to get mortally wounded

Nina The Killer agere with late 2000/early 2010 aesthetic with light pink and princess motifs (and a bit of impure/vent regression?) Headcanons, too! Can Jane The Killer can be her cg? Tysm!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah!! I can do that!
Also, bc there isn't really any canonical drawings of Jane and Nina (That I know of), I drew the two photos of them myself. So, apologies if they aren't very good. I don't draw people very oftennn
Tumblr media
🍪Regressor!Nina the killer and Caregiver!Jane the killer Headcanons!
🩷Nina is a trauma regressor, primarily. She started regressing as a coping mechanism when she was being harassed at school. At first, she didn't know what it was. After her first time regressing, she did some research and learned about the term "age regression". She realized that it matched her case perfectly, and from then on she was an age regressor.
🍪She usually regresses somewhere between 5-12, but on bad days can go as young as 3-4. Despite her usually older regression age, she likes having a pacifier and items suited for younger kiddos. She loves playing with toys like baby dolls, play kitchens, and play makeup, but also really likes making jewlery.
🩷Y'know those little kids disney princess nightgowns? Like the frilly ones? She really likes those! She likes to spin around and pretend that she's a princess. Once Jane becomes her primary caregiver, she'll either have Jane pretend to be a princess, too, or Jane'll become her loyal servant!
🍪She LOVES having her hair done! After bathtime, Jane'll sit her down and do pretty hairstyles on her. Nina's thrilled; she always shows off her pretty new hairstyle afterwards!
🩷Speaking of bathtime, she likes bathtime! She likes to have bubbles and bathbombs in the tub, then of course plenty of toys to play with! Jane washes her hair for her and plays with her, smiling as Nina giggles from the bubbles and stuff. Afterwards, of course, Jane helps her put some scented lotion on and dries her off with a princess-themed towel, making sure she's comfy cozy <3
🍪She's a pretty energetic kiddo. Not super hyper, butshe loves running around and doing stuff. She hates being bored! She's also really giggly and silly when regressed, laughing happily at everything and making childlike jokes.
🩷When sleepy, she likes the lights to be dimmed, but her nightlight to be on. She would possibly have LED lights, y'know the ones that change colors? They'd be turned on, either pink or purple. Once the lights are just how she likes them, she likes to kiss and hug AAAALLL of her stuffed animals goodnight! She doesn't want them to be sad, of course!
🍪Jane usually reads her a bedtime story, then turned on Nina's little disney princess CD player, playing childrens songs at a volume that won't disturb either of them as they sleep. Sometimes, Jane'll cuddle with Nina (and her 500 stuffed animals, of course. She's a collector) and they sleep aalllll night long, comfy and cozy.
🩷When Jane and Nina spend the night together, sleeping and cuddling, it's nice as if Nina has a nightmare, then her favorite caregiver is right there, ready to comfort her and give her all the affection in the world.
🍪Overall, Nina's a pretty good kid when regressed, and Jane's a great caregiver to her.

trick or treat!
cg! clockwork / cg! jane the killer / feminine! regressor! reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
AN: special halloween fic! this is extremely self indulgent but i hope yall still enjoy! i also left the costume ambiguous! so you can imagine whatever you dressed up as, or what you would have liked to dress up as! also, in this universe, regressors are known and accepted! sfw interactions ONLY! do not sexualize!
CW: the d and s word said by natalie. pottymouth!
tonight was a very exciting night for you! it was halloween, and your caregivers were taking you trick or treating!
you were beyond ecstatic, having talked about this all month. halloween was also jane’s favorite holiday, so she was more than happy to indulge in all the fun festivities with you.
jane and natalie were a little worried about going out tonight. being who they were, they couldn’t exactly make a lot of appearances in public for fear of getting caught. however, they figured it would be dark enough tonight that no one would really recognize them. if someone did, they could disguise as edgy teenagers who thought it would be funny to dress as crazed killers.
jane had handmade your costume, pouring love into every stich. you eagerly told your caregivers you wanted to go as a ___ this year, and jane got straight to work.
“oh darling, you look absolutely adorable!” jane gushed, admiring you in her handiwork.
you smiled, and bounced around a little, happiness filling your little body. your mind felt all fuzzy and small, and you couldn’t wait to get tons of candy.
natalie came up behind you, swiftly putting a jacket on you before you had time to protest.
“mamaaaa,” you whined, resisting the urge to stomp your foot a little. you didn’t want the jacket to cover up your pretty costume!
“sorry kid, but it’s gonna be pretty cold tonight. we don’t want you gettin’ sick or anything,” she said, booping your nose.
“besides, mama and mommy are wearing their jackets too! it’s better to be safe than sorry, darling.” jane chimed in, pulling a black overcoat on.
you wanted to pout, but quickly realized it was better to wear a jacket and go trick or treating, than not go at all.
once everyone had their jackets and shoes on, natalie looked down at you, smiling a little,“you ready to go kiddo?”
you nodded eagerly, clutching the handle of your plastic pumpkin eagerly.
-
-
the three of you arrived to the neighborhood you would be trick or treating in. your eyes widened at all the people who filled the streets. children, regressors, and adults alike were all dressed up.
“i’d say your the cutest one here, pumpkin,” natalie said, holding onto you shoulder gently. “everyone else’s costumes look cheap.”
“well, not everyone else can have a wonderful hand-made costume, now can they?” jane said, a hint of pride in her voice.
natalie snorted, linking arms with jane and holding hands with you.
“remember kiddo, you gotta be holding mine or mommy’s hand while we’re walking okay? don’t want anyone to snatch ya up.”
you nodded, eyes wide at the thought. nat would always say she was the laid back one, the “fun” parent. but everyone knows she was just as much of a worry-wart as jane.
as you made your way to your first house, you felt a wave of shyness come over you. in your excitement, you didn’t really think about how you would have to talk to strangers. you stood just front of their short driveway, hesitating to go up to them.
“what’s wrong, my love?” jane asked, worry lacing through her voice.
“m scared,” you mumbled. “strangers.”
“ah, kiddo,” natalie cooed, placing a gentle hand on your shoulder. “ya don’t gotta be nervous. just go up to em and say “trick or treat!” and they’ll give ya some candy.”
“and me and mama will be right behind you the whole time!” jane said gently.
you smiled at them, suddenly feeling a bit more brave. you took a deep breath and made your way up the persons driveway. two woman sat on lawn chairs on their porch, a big bucket of candy sitting in one of their laps. they both smiled at you gently, probably assuming you were a regressor.
as you walked up to them, your eyes widened at sight of how much candy you had. you couldn’t even pick!
“you can take two pieces honey,”one of the ladies said softly, and you nodded shyly.
you reached into the bucket, taking two tiny pieces of chocolate and putting them in your bucket.
“what do you say?” natalie asked and your eyes lit up. jane was very adamant about using your manners!
“thank you!” you beamed.
the two ladies smiled at you, waving bye and wishing you a happy halloween.
“see, that wasn’t so bad, was it kiddo?” natalie asked, grabbing onto your hand.
you shook your head. you were having fun so far! and you were very, very, excited to eat your candy.
you went up to the next house with a little bit more confidence, holding out your bucket with a bright smile.
“trick or treat!”
an older couple smiled, reaching in to give you a few pieces of candy.
“and what are you supposed to be, little one?” the older man asked you.
you looked back at your caregivers shyly, and thy gave you an encouraging smile.
“‘m a ___! “ you said, bouncing on your feet.
“you look so cute!” the older lady gushed, and she looked like she wanted to pinch your cheeks. “your costume is so pretty!”
you smiled, running your fingers of the pink velvet. “thanks! my mommy made it!”
the older couple looked at your caregivers and you watched as their eyes widen a little, a stricken expression on their face. sometimes people looked at your mamas that way, they didn’t look exactly normal. however, you didn’t think they were scary at all!
“well, she did a wonderful job.” the older lady said, her voice strained.
you smiled and said thank you, before toddling off to the next house. you took jane’s hand as the two of you walked the neighborhood sidewalk.
“oh, damn. we totally scared the shit out of those old people!” natalie said, cackling. she loved to get a rise out of people.
“nat, language!” jane scolded her. honestly, you were more well behaved than your caregiver.
fortunately for jane, you weren’t even listening to nat’s foul language. the next house you made your way up to had some rather spooky decorations! one of them was a fairly realistic zombie animatronic. any other kid would be scared of it, but not you! being around your caregivers and their friends (or more so coworkers) has made you pretty immune to anything scary looking!
you toddled up to the porch, holding out your bucked and yelling out an enthusiastic “trick or treat!”
“awwww!” the man at the porch said. “is this your all’s little one?”
your caregivers both nodded, nat smiling brightly. “yep. adorable, ain’t she?”
“the cutest! my kiddo is out running around somewhere,” the man said, putting a fistful of candy in your bucket. “he’s a bit older though, and with some friends, so he’s fine.”
natalie snorts, pointing a thumb at jane. “this one hardly lets her out of our sight.”
jane rolled her eyes, not one for talking in front of people she didn’t know. the man only laughed.
“hey, i don’t blame you. you gotta do that sometimes, especially with the smaller ones.”
this conversation was going on for far too long! you were eager to get to the next houses and get as much candy as you could. you impatiently tugged at jane’s sleeve, silently communicating you wanted to move on.
“ah, i think we should get going,” jane said, her cool voice coming to save you. “thank you for your kind words.”
“thank you!” you parroted your mommy.
“hey, no problem! you guys have a good night,” the man said, looking at your caregiver’s and then looking at you. “make sure you get lots of candy, little one!”
you giggled before happily walking off with your caregivers, your hand in jane’s.
the three of your made your way through many more houses before your bucket was starting to get full and the sun was starting to set. you found yourself pretty tuckered out by the time jane said it was almost time to head home.
“ya getting sleepy, kiddo?” natalie asked in amusement as she watched your dragging footsteps.
you nodded, looking up at her with wide eyes and making grabby hands. your feet were starting hurt and you were sleepy!
your mama chuckled before taking you in her arms, carrying you as the you all started to make your way back home.
jane looked over at you , ruffling your hair. “she had a big night.”
“had fun,” you mumbled sleepily, your face smooshed against nat’s shoulder.
your caregivers shared a look of fondness, happy that their baby had so much fun.
“i’m glad, darling. mama and i had lots of fun too.”
eventually, the three of you made it back home. it was quite past your bedtime and you were definitely feeling it. however, all you could think about was how much candy you had gotten. you filled up your whole bucket! you wanted to eat it all!
“candy please?” you asked sleepily, making puppy dog eyes at jane.
“that’s gonna be a no, darling. it’s very late, and we still need to brush your teeth and get you in bed.”
“pleaseeeee!” you whined.
jane chuckled, pressing a kiss to your forehead. “no means no, my love. you can have a few pieces with your lunch tomorrow, okay?”
a pout started to form on your face, but you still nodded. you supposed you could wait till tomorrow, but you weren’t happy about it.
jane strutted off to go start your bath, leaving just you and nat in the kitchen. you looked up at her with pitful and sleepy eyes, and she just couldn’t take it! she fished out a small piece of candy quietly, and slipped it to you with a wink.
“don’t tell, alright?” she said, a fond smiled gracing her lips.
you nodded excitedly, throwing your arms around her.
“thank you, thank you mama!”
natalie giggled, returning your hug. “shhh! you’ll get us in trouble kiddo.”
eventually, your caregivers got you ready for bed. well, more like jane did, and natalie was scolded the entire time for trying to “rile you up.”
you drifted off in a peaceful sleep that night, dreaming of candy and your caregivers. <3
bonus:
jane had just finished putting you to bed. honestly, she felt quite exhausted too. it has been the best night with her little one, but she was definitely ready for bed!
she walked into the kitchen to find natalie picking around in your halloween bucket.
“really nat? stealing candy from a baby?” she scoffed, leaning against the kitchen door.
natalie threw her hands up in defense. “hey, it’s mama tax, okay? i took the kiddo trick or treating, so i get first pick on the best stuff.”
jane rolled her eyes playfully, stealing a tiny chocolate bar. “i don’t think that’s how it works, but okay.”

hi! i'd be interested in a subsys based on mariah rose faith & her hatchetfield roles, if you could add that to richie's list! preferably with a subsystem host who is a mariah factive, though that's not necessary if it clashes with what you're doing for the others ♡
- marceline ( @roses-bah-garden )
was gonna do Jon next but wanted to do this request so bad so skipping in line. also yes this is Richie’s thing but he doesn’t really care if others do it lol. as i was making this cinderella’s castle online tickets came out so may make a pt 2 with those characters? who knows
also funny enough the actor as the host is the theme of these lil packs lol

New Mystery Recommendations
Board to Death by C.J. Connor
Back in his hometown of Sugar House running his family's board game shop and cafe, Ben Rosencrantz just can't seem to get his life to pass go, much less collect $200. Once he was a happily married English professor in Seattle. Now he's a divorced caregiver, looking after his ill father and a chihuahua named Beans while still figuring out the rules of retail management. At least the town has become more LGBTQ+ friendly than when Ben was a teenager - and that flower shop owner Ezra McCaslin enjoys flirting with him.
But despite his usual clientele of gamers, Ben is barely earning enough to keep the store running and stay on top of his father's medical bills. Then a local toy and game collector named Clive offers him a winning strategy - to purchase a turn-of-the-twentieth-century edition of The Landlord's Game, the realty and taxation game that inspired Monopoly, at a tenth of the rare edition's true value. Suspicious of Clive's shady, low-priced deal, Ben turns the offer down.
Then Clive turns up dead in the dumpster behind Ben's shop and a backpack full of $100 bills appears on his doorstep. Now Ben is the #1 suspect in Clive's death, and unless he and Ezra can prove his innocence and find the real killer, he'll go to jail for murder - and no amount of double dice rolls will set him free.
This is the first volume of the "Board Game Shop" series.
Death and the Sisters by Heather Redmond
London, 1814: Mary Godwin and her stepsister Jane Clairmont, both sixteen, possess quick minds bolstered by an unconventional upbringing, and have little regard for the rules that other young ladies follow. Mary, whose mother famously advocated for women’s rights, rejects the two paths that seem open to her - that of an assistant in her father’s bookshop, or an ordinary wife. Though quieter and more reserved than the boisterous Jane, Mary’s imagination is keen, and she longs for real-world adventures.
One evening, an opportunity arrives in the form of a dinner guest, Percy Bysshe Shelley. At twenty-one, Shelley is already a renowned poet and radical. Mary finds their visitor handsome and compelling, but it is later that evening, after the party has broken up, that events take a truly intriguing turn. When Mary comes downstairs in search of a book, she finds instead a man face down on the floor - with a knife in his back.
The dead man, it seems, was a former classmate of Shelley’s, and had lately become a personal and professional rival. What was he doing in the Godwins’ home? Mary, Jane, and Shelley are all drawn to learn the truth behind the tragedy, especially as each discovery seems to hint at a tangled web that includes many in Shelley’s closest circle. But as the attraction between Mary and the married poet intensifies, it sparks a rivalry between the sisters, even as it kindles the creative fire within.
This is the first volume of the "Mary Shelley Mystery" series.
Dig Two Graves by Mickey Spillane & Max Allan Collins
Winter 1964. After a hit-and-run accident nearly kills her mother, Mike Hammer’s partner (both in life and the PI business), Velda Sterling, learns her father is not who she thought he is. Seeking to uncover her true, troubling heritage, Velda and Mike travel to Phoenix, Arizona - and sunny Dreamland Park, where retired law enforcement officers protect and corral notorious criminals held under Witness Protection.
Mike and Velda find themselves swept up in escalating violence, fueled by the missing millions from an armored-car robbery, which leads them to a deadly midnight confrontation in a cemetery - where secrets are buried and open graves await.
Harlem After Midnight by Louise Hare
Harlem, 1936: Lena Aldridge grew up in a cramped corner of London, hearing stories of the bright lights of Broadway. She always imagined that when she finally went to New York City, she’d be there with her father. But now he’s dead, and she’s newly arrived and alone, chasing a dream that has quickly dried up. When Will Goodman - the handsome musician she met on the crossing from England - offers for her to stay with his friends in Harlem, she agrees. She has nowhere else to go, and this will give her a chance to get to know Will better and see if she can find any trace of the family she might have remaining.
Will’s friends welcome her with open arms, but just as Lena discovers the stories her father once told her were missing giant pieces of information, she also starts to realize the man she’s falling too fast and too hard for has secrets of his own. And they might just place a target on her back. Especially when she is drawn to the brightest stage in town.
This is the second volume in the "Canary Club Mystery" series.

jisbon and attachment styles and why the pike storyline actually makes a lot of sense despite us hating it*
(* and also why they couldn’t be together until after Red John was dead despite us preferring they were together earlier)
In this post I will talk about attachment styles, Lisbon and Jane’s traumas and the likely reasons that they developed their attachment styles and how they manifest in their relationships, including their relationship with each other. (+ the reason they’re still quite careful with each other in S7 and struggle to be vulnerable with each other) This will be a bit in depth so I ask you to be cautious while reading - do not hesitate to ask for help or support if you can. There is a risk in here, as I will be talking about their traumas (particularly their childhood abuse and neglect) so if it is a potentially sensitive subject for you, proceed with caution (or not at all, I suppose.)
All my thanks go to @chakramchaser, this would not have been possible without you being both willing to ramble with me and continuing the ideas and connecting some excellent dots. I appreciate you.
Tumblr media
[Transcript - Discord chat:
wikipe: okay so teresa is disorganized style while patrick is avoidant most likely. Which makes their dynamic fascinating, now that i think about it. Teresa has moments when she’s anxious, but mostly she tends to avoid.
chakramchaser:
ITS WHY IT TAKES LITERALLY A DECADE
CUZ THEY JUST AVOIDDDD
Also the serial killer in the way blah blah ]
For the purposes of this post, I will only talk about the disorganized and the avoidant attachment styles. (https://www.attachmentproject.com/blog/four-attachment-styles/)
Disorgnized Style
The disorganized type tends to show unstable and ambiguous behaviors in their social bonds.
For adults with this style of attachment, the partner and the relationship themselves are often the source of both desire and fear.
Fearful-avoidant people do want intimacy and closeness, but at the same time, experience troubles trusting and depending on others.
They do not regulate their emotions well and avoid strong emotional attachment, due to their fear of getting hurt.
Avoidant Style:
The dismissing / avoidant type would often perceive themselves as ‘lone wolves’: strong, independent, and self-sufficient; not necessarily in terms of physical contact, but rather on an emotional level.
These people have high self-esteem and a positive view of themselves.
The dismissing / avoidant type tend to believe that they don’t have to be in a relationship to feel complete.
They do not want to depend on others, have others depend on them, or seek support and approval in social bonds.
Adults with this attachment style generally avoid emotional closeness. They also tend to hide or suppress their feelings when faced with a potentially emotion-dense situation.
Do these styles sound like some beloved characters we know?
Teresa Lisbon
Tumblr media
(Season 7, episode 7 - The Yellow House)
[Transcript - Teresa Lisbon: Somebody had to be responsible.]
A disorganized / fearful-avoidant attachment style develops when the child’s caregivers – the only source of safety – become a source of fear. In adulthood, people with this attachment style are extremely inconsistent in their behavior and have a hard time trusting others.
"Driven to succeed to the point of developing an ulcer, no tolerance for superiors less sharp than yourself, shutting out girls that wanted to hang out with you, blowing off boys that want to get close. All the while, at every turn, wondering 'what is it I really want?' "
I will pull up her past with the help of the Mentalist wikia, since it is quite coherent and well said:
“Her mother was killed by a drunk driver when she was twelve (Red Badge). In the episode Red Tide, it is implied that she had to take over her mother’s role and care for her family at a young age. In Little Yellow House, Lisbon tells Jane that she had to be the parent to her brothers after the death of her mother. It is implied that her family life was not an easy one even before the death of her mother. Lisbon tells her brother Jimmy that someone in the household had to be responsible because, "You know what Mom and Dad were like." After her mother’s death, her father's drinking either started or worsened and he ended up killing himself. It isn't specified whether he did this accidentally or on purpose. Lisbon said that he “damn near killed me and my brothers too,” leaving both possibilities open. It may have been something like another drunken car accident, or simply neglect. In Red Badge Lisbon mentions that her father used to be violent, as he once beat one of her brothers half to death and didn't remember doing so. Apparently her father suffered blackouts when he drank.“
That is a whole load of “source of fear.” She lost the sense of safety pretty early in life and I argue that she no longer knows what safety feels like. On top of the trauma of losing her parents, there is the trauma of parentification that is implied she’s had to do from a very young age, taking care of her brothers to the best of her abilities.
This style shows up in simple ways: She both craves the intimacy of relationships and rejects it, fears it. Stability feels foreign to her.
She breaks off an engagement with Greg, and she does not seem to have any serious stable relationships during her time at CBI. (“You’re too intense and particular for a man like that.” “Whatever happened to that guy from Narcotics?” “Jeff? He bit his nails.” “That’s particular.”)
She is wistful for a good and loving relationship but she doesn’t know how to keep it, runs away at the opportunity.
Through these lenses, the relationship with Pike makes sense: She is tired of waiting for a man who might never actually love her, she finds a good man in Pike, she longs for the stability and beauty that a relationship with him might provide, while also being terrified of it (and longing for Jane, of course). She is absolutely terrified when Pike asks for her hand in marriage. Of course, you could argue that it is sudden, unexpected, too soon and any woman would panic. But I want to bring up the fact that she doesn’t say “No” immediately, though. She wants to make it work, or to think about it. Or to see if Jane would care.  (And I am firmly convinced that she might have said no to the marriage regardless if she left with him to D.C.)
She says “Yes.” But she does it while running away from Jane, who lied to her and manipulated her again and hurt her again. She says Yes to Pike, but doesn’t even listen to what he says afterwards, just looks out at the hotel where she left Jane.
And then, in the end, she leaves Pike too. Pike looks at Jane in Season 7, tells him that he had a life and a family to offer to Teresa, but I think Teresa is just as afraid of them as much as she craves them. She does not know stability, she does not know how to accept to be taken care of or work through the issues of her relationships for most of the show. She also is not sure of what she likes or wants for most of the show. (Even as she seems that she does, burying herself in her work, the only stable thing for her.)
She learns how to do these things slowly in the relationship with Jane. In Season 7 she starts being more vocal about her likes and dislikes, even with minor things (such as randomly saying that she likes smores). Opening up also allows her to deepen her connection to her brothers, whom she had avoided as well for most of her life. She shares her struggles, realizes where she was short-sighted and tries to do better about opening up. At the end of Episode 7, she feels comfortable enough to tell Jane that she loves him, too. And at the end, she’s no longer running away. She’s waiting. “What do you need?” “Time.” “Okay, I can give you time.”
Patrick Jane
Tumblr media
(Season 7, episode 3 - Orange Blossom Ice Cream)
[Transcript - Erica Flynn: Patrick likes to pretend that he's this lone wolf.]
Parents who are strict and emotionally distant, do not tolerate the expression of feelings, and expect their child to be independent and tough might raise children with an avoidant attachment style. As adults, these children appear confident and self-sufficient. They do not tolerate emotional or physical intimacy and might not be able to build healthy relationships. What’s more, in the workplace, they are often seen as the independent, ‘lone wolf’. It is, however, possible for these individuals to change and develop a secure attachment style.
There is less known about Patrick Jane’s past than about Teresa. Again, the Mentalist wikia says it better than I ever could:
“He had a rough existence with his father, the only adult in his life, whose treatment and use of him was tantamount to child abuse. When Patrick refused to scam a dying girl and her grandmother, his father threatened him and forced him to do it. Jane later said that he never went to high school, presumably due to the nomadic carny life. Alex exploited Patrick for his skills, since he was very young. In Red John's Rules it is implied that Jane spent some time in foster care as a child.
Alex had a wedding ring on his hand, but Jane's mother was not mentioned in any flashbacks, so it is likely that she died or abandoned them.”
Jane’s childhood is one of neglect and abuse, peppered with some happy memories. His father makes it clear that he views taking care of Jane as being Jane’s responsibility, and moreover, that Jane owes it to him because he’s taken care of him up until then. (“I’ve been carrying you for a long time and it’s not getting any easier, son.” - Season 2, Episode 10, Throwing Fire) He either helps his father with his schemes or he is on his own.
Therefore, in adulthood, he is on his own. He struggles to let people in, struggles to accept help and accept partnership. He considers himself the smartest person in the room because he has to be - it’s a way to survive and he has nothing else.
As seen when he loses all memory of his family, the original childhood trauma makes him more callous and uncaring, having no limits and no boundaries (nor caring about others’ boundaries). It’s only him and nobody else.
It is likely that Angela was his moral compass. (as it is implied a few times that she was done with the carny life and the tricks) Even so, chakramchaser made a very valid point: “he still ran from it then - why else would he be running an empire of psychic cons. bro had way more money than he needed he just was addicted to the thrill. i feel like he thrived on the unpredictability.”
Over the course of the show, we see that he begins to trust other people (mainly Lisbon and the main team). However, he still struggles to let them in, either in his life and in his plans. He goes by himself in most of his plans, informing the team of the minimum necessary for them to know in order to execute the plan flawlessly. He makes more of an effort towards the end of the show and especially after he and Lisbon get together, but his first instinct is still to do things by himself. He cares, but he struggles to convey this directly, preferring to buy them gifts (to show that he knows them), to offer compliments, help them or at the worst, con his way (tricking Lisbon into staying for longer instead of telling her that he doesn’t want her to go).
However, we can notice an important shift after Red John dies and especially after he and Lisbon get together. Despite the fact he still struggles to communicate his feelings, he tries. Opening up towards Lisbon allows him to open up more towards others as well. For example, he makes an effort to inform Abbott when he has a plan that could be dubious (and tells him that he won’t be informed of the specifics in order to have deniability).
Healing comes through the good relationships that we form and we can definitely see this with Jane.
Jane and Lisbon - their relationship
After more than a decade of a deep friendship, Jane and Lisbon decided to become a couple after Lisbon got engaged to another man and was about to be out of Jane’s life. The common perspective is that they could not get together until Red John was dead, because Jane was determined to kill him and in turn Red John was obsessed with picking on him.
That is half of the story. The other half is that they are an disorganized/avoidant couple, do not really consider intimacy safe and do not really know how to express it unless it’s in high stakes. (That being the main reason Jane confessed his feelings in a big “rushing-to-the-airport-and-telling-you-the-truth-as-you-leave” moment.) As an example, I will show the moment from S4 that everyone and their mother is familiar with. I will transcribe underneath the pictures and then I will write my perspective in regards to what they think and feel.

[Transcript:
Lisbon, not looking Jane in the eyes: So, that thing you said before you shot me.
Lisbon, looking down: What did you mean?
[Jane looks contemplative for a few seconds, before saying]
Jane, with a slight smile: What did I say?
Jane, no smile: I was kind of hyped up.
Lisbon, looking at him now and sounding relieved: Me too. I thought at any moment we were gonna get found out.]
My perspective is as follows: Lisbon has a disorganized attachment style (or should I say…Messy?).
Tumblr media
(Season 1, Episode 14 - Crimson Casanova)
[Transcript - Patrick Jane: Messy women make good lovers.]
This means she desires both closeness and distance. She asks Jane what he meant by telling her “Take care, Teresa. Love you.”, but she cannot look him in the eye. She does not know if it’s a confession and she does not know if she wants it to be a confession. She is not ready for this.
Jane, who did not expect her to call him out on this, takes a while to figure out how to respond to this. He is definitely not ready for this kind of intimacy. Whether the confession was a slip or not, he did not intend to talk about this afterwards. Therefore, he decides to go with “I don’t remember what I said.” I think the presence of the smile and the serious face afterwards is indicative enough. He knows she will not say the words out loud.
And she doesn’t. Moreover, she seems just as relieved for this excuse, since she decides to look at him in the eyes now.
In the fanfiction that I’ve read, a lot of people interpret Lisbon as being slightly annoyed or even downright upset about Jane pretending to not remember telling her “I love you”, but I don’t think she was. I think the perspective was both enticing and scary for her (another example pinpointing this is Pike asking for her hand in marriage).
Now, how does this change when they are in a relationship? They start to communicate more and express their likes and desires more, as well as listen to each other. (“You wore a vest. I like it.”) Their early traumas still haven’t disappeared, but they work through them together: they still have a tendency to brush off their emotions and say “It’s nothing, I’m fine”, Jane runs away for a bit when he is trying to figure out how to deal with the idea of Lisbon dying, and Lisbon remains to be responsible and deal with their feelings. But - they talk. Jane confesses to being terrified of losing her, Lisbon remains clear that she loves both Jane and the job. What seems initially as running away turns out to be running towards. It is true that he could’ve told her before, but it’s likely that he didn’t know what was going on either until he found the house. Jane was trying to find a way to deal with his intrusive terror. And yea, my guy would’ve benefitted from some therapy, but a new hobby (such as renovating a house) is the next best thing really. He comes back to her.
In conclusion, I think a lot of their decisions and instincts and fears can be explained by their attachment styles. The way their relationship evolves is absolutely fascinating. Honestly I find it really beautiful that two terrified people used to running away decide to stay for each other and come back to each other and do better to each other and for each other. Their final perp catch is done as a team.

Criminology: Angels of Mercy, the Doctors of Death
In criminology, there is a very rare type of serial killer referred to as “angels of mercy,” also referred to as “angels of death” or “healthcare serial killers.” These types of serial killers are usually employed as a some sort of caregiver or someone in a position of power, such as a night nurse in a hospital or a member of staff at a nursing home. People with a pathological interest in power over who lives and who dies are attracted to careers in the medical field or related fields so they have the opportunity to have that kind of power. The general modus operandi of an angel of mercy is that they deliberately cause harm to or kills a patient under their care.
There are three cardinal types of angels of mercy: the mercy killer, the sadist, and the malignant hero.
The mercy killer determines that their victim is beyond help, suffering unnecessarily, and would be much better off if someone were to end their struggle, though this conclusion may be a delusion, and their victim is not actually beyond treatment.
The second type of angels of death is the sadist. Sadistic angels of death use their position of power to exert their need to control over their victims.
The last type of healthcare serial killer (or just simply HSK) is referred to as the “malignant hero.” Those who are malignant heroes intentionally endangers the life of a patient and then proceeds to pretend an attempt to “save” them. The central motivation of this HSK is attention and accolades. They want the family of the victim, their own family, their coworkers, and friends to be proud of them and think of them as a great person. Some malignant heroes even pretend to try to revive the victim by using CPR or other methods knowing that they’re already dead. Those who kill in order to “save” their victims are labeled of having Munchausen syndrome by proxy, which is classified as a factitious disorder.
There are many possible motivations that lead HSKs to murder, including money, acquiring a twisted sense of pleasure, the belief that they are genuinely easing their patient’s suffering, and sometimes, simply because they can. An odd recurring characteristic of angels of death is a criminal history of fraud. The famed serial killer H.H. Holmes was involved in confidence tricks and insurance scams. Harold Shipman had a prior conviction of forgery and fraud.
If you work in the medical field, fret not. There are some distinct red flags and warning signs to tell if your coworker is an angel of mercy. Angels of mercy obviously have higher rates of death occurring on their shift, and generally prefer night shifts, as it reduces the risk of getting caught. Angels have extreme difficulty forming and maintaining interpersonal relationships. They have a history of mental illness, especially personality disorders. If they make you and your other colleagues anxious, uncomfortable, or even if you just don’t feel right about them, your brain could be giving you danger signals. You are not being judgmental, rude, or unprofessional. Your brain is smart, and usually if your instinct is telling you that something just ain’t kosher, something is probably wrong. If they keep drugs in their locker or at home, that could be an indicator as well. Angels of death gain notoriety among their colleagues for having extremely detailed and morbid discussions with the bereaved relatives of their victims. They switch hospitals frequently to make it so that they’re not at a hospital long enough for people to notice their climbing body count. They do not react to discipline very well; they will argue with their boss when being corrected about even the smallest thing. They are obsessed with death - it’s all they talk about. In order to prevent the offender from being able to carry out their urges, your first step would be to heavily monitor access to drugs and track who takes what and when.
As time goes on, a phenomena described in criminology occurs called “escalation.” The broad definition of escalation in terms of criminology is the process by which an offender goes from committing lesser crimes to more serious ones. In terms of angels of mercy, as time passes their behavior escalates from murdering those who are legitimately beyond help to those who are perfectly healthy or still have effective treatment options.
Angels typically use the method of injection of deadly substances that only show up in toxicology reports. For this reason, the elderly are most vulnerable to HSKs because when they die, nobody argues when the paperwork says that their cause of death was natural causes. The injection of a deadly dose of insulin to cause overdose in the most common injection method, and a fourth of the angels of death have used this technique. They have also used bleach, muscle relaxants, potassium, and opiates. However, Beverly Allitt, an English nurse, used suffocation.
The first example of a mercy killer we will discuss is Jane “Jolly Jane” Toppan. Jane Toppan was arrested in 1901, after which she confessed to a total of 33 homicides. Jane would administer a drug to her patients, and then would lie in bed with them as they died, holding them close; she was reportedly sexually aroused by death and the concept of it. She also enjoyed the rush of harming her victims and then attempting to revive them.
Tumblr media
Harold Shipman worked as an English family doctor and was active between 1975 and 1988. He made it appear that his patients died of natural causes, and was sentenced for the murder of 215 people, though it is speculated that he killed around 250.
Tumblr media
Richard Angelo would inject a patient with a toxic substance and then rush to his victim’s room to attempt to save them in hopes to be a hero to the family; he confessed to 25 homicides.
Tumblr media
Donald Harvey worked in Cincinnati at Drake Memorial Hospital, where he killed over 50 people, though he was only charged for 37 of them. His primary method was to administer his patients arsenic and cyanide slipped into their food. He was caught when the coroner opened up the body of one of his victims in an autopsy and noted a very strong smell of almonds, which is a warning sign associated with the use of cyanide. In his trial, Harvey claimed that he was putting his patients out of their misery. He died an prison after being beaten by a fellow inmate.
Tumblr media
Genene Jones was sentenced 99 years in prison in the year 1982 for the murder of Chelsea McClellan, an infant she injected with three shots of succinylcholine, a drug which causes paralysis and muscle relaxation, the combination of which stopped her heart. Though at the time she was only charged for her murder it is strongly suspected that she killed dozens more children, as there was a significant spike in infant deaths whenever she was on her shift. They also successfully charged Jones for an additional murder of Josh Sawyer that she committed in 1981. It is believed that Jones is classified as a malignant hero, for the reason that she wanted to cause emergencies so she could play the savior.

Crime Shows and Bad Decisions
Tumblr media
To Whom It May Concern:
Salutations to you, I am going to delve into the many criminal shows that have been and still air today. More than likely you have spent time watching these programs and wonder  to yourself how these people manage to find themselves in these situations. At this point I find myself critiquing their poor decisions.
There are many out there and this is just a short list:
·         Forensic Files
·         48 hours
·         Homicide Hunter with Joe Kenda
·         Who The Bleep Did I Marry
·         America’s Most Wanted
·         Dateline
·         Snapped
·         American Justice
·         Killer Kids
·         Making A Murderer
·         Mommy Dead and Dearest
·         Disappeared
·         Nightmare Next Door
·        True Crime with Aphrodite Jones
·         I (Almost) Got Away With It
·         Scorned: Love Kills
·         Obsession: Dark Desires
Looking at these lists there are at least one or more that you might have seen. You could be like me and find the shows fascinating and learn the not to-do’s from the people telling their stories. Each show has it niche and they might deal with parallel issues but then they have different ways to tell a story. Forensic Files for instance deals with a variety of cases involving rape, murder, kidnapping, serial killers, faking deaths and cold cases. It is truly fascinating how they’re able to solve these cases with a simple fiber from a car to even plants just with their DNA and some smart investigations. 48 hours is just as it sounds, the first 48 hours is vital to find someone who has gone missing. This is actually very common with the police department and so on.
Tumblr media
I don’t know if any of you have seen the case of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her mother Claudine “Dee Dee” Blanchard? It is covered on Mommy Dead and Dearest and to most it seemed like an open and closed case. It was much more complicated than that and there are many who sit on either side of the fence. This is the story presented in this case; Dee Dee spent almost all of Gypsy’s life keeping her disabled. She made up all of her medical conditions and spent over a decade stuck in a wheelchair. She was on so many medications that they induced the symptoms of the supposed conditions which she used to make her look sick to gain favor with different organizations. Dee Dee kept her daughter’s age from her as well, even telling her father not to reveal her age because she was mentally that of a 5 year old though physically being 15 years old.  It was discovered throughout the story that Dee Dee had Munchhausen by proxy which is a disorder in which the caretaker will induce sickness to get attention and gifts. These gifts were expensive trips to Disney world and other vacations. Dee Dee had also stated they lost their home in hurricane Katrina, so the place the relocated to build them a home for free. Dee Dee kept her daughter hostage for most of her life, abused her for trying to get away, keeping her away from her father and lied to keep people from helping Gypsy. To add to this Dee Dee had been her own mother’s caregiver and let her starve to death. She even tried to poison her step mother. Gypsy had run away a few times and her mother always found her and would threaten her and abuse her for her actions. The conclusion of this sad tale is that Gypsy had her mother killed by her mentally ill boyfriend. People felt as though Gypsy had suffered all of her life and they didn’t want to put in prison for life, being that she had been a victim in a terrible situation. They gave her ten years and she’ll still have a chance when she gets out.
Tumblr media
Obsession: Dark Desires is a terribly creepy show. The lengths that some people with go to for those they become obsessed with. Most of these cases involve different varieties of stalkers, love struck employees, ex-boyfriends and next door neighbors. It’s a scary world nowadays because of the internet and how much we give free for people to use against us. Just know that if you have someone obsessed with you then you definitely want to go online and look up websites like Beenverified to remove your information from being purchased. There are a number of free ones where you can just go in a delete them completely. This prevents others from having access to your previous and current addresses your family members and so much more. This is so legitimate I have done this and it’s a load off my mind to have this information off of the web. I’m sure that there are more out there but if you’re dedicated them you’ll have peace of mind.
While on other shows one of the reoccurring themes are the cases of both men and women who meet a charming person and within a month they get married without the allotted time to get to know each other. It is then that the trouble slowly begins. They don’t give enough time to get to know each other; there isn’t time to get to know someone in just a month. Because of this these people come face to face with a real life monster. Worst yet the small glimpses shown they brush aside and let them go. We as people should be aware of anyone in our lives. I’m not telling you readers that you should be suspicious but just be aware and give time in a relationship to learn the ins and outs of the person you might fall for and spend your life with.
Tumblr media
Personally and this is just me mainly because of the things I’ve seen and been through; background search, tests for possible STDs. People lie and that means everyone, they will tell you one thing and you later find that the person you lie beside is a complete stranger. If the person you plan to be with does truly love you then they will not have any problems with your request in looking into them. It goes both ways too and you can give them the same thing. Just think for a second if everyone did this there could be complete trust, more so than what you want to imagine. If you were able to really know the person you bring into your life things would work out better. A lot of these people want to rationalize that they just had to trust the person’s word and that was enough. It really isn’t though and this is the end of each episode especially in ‘Who The Bleep Did I Marry?’ where each person says they wished they had known and how devastating it had been. With a little bit of knowledge you could save yourself years of your life wasted if this person turns out to be a horrible person.
Tumblr media
Once let’s say a woman named Jane gets married to John the light switch flips and he shows his true colors. At this point you’re tied together because of the marriage. What’s worse is when they have children together and the children are used or kidnapped by the spouse. Not enough people stop and plan these things out, yes sometimes there’s accidents but most of the time its poor protection and planning. People make the mistake of joining bank accounts, even if you trust the person completely it’s better for your relationship not to. Most successful couples will tell you that with this separation in accounts the couple can erase one possible issue that most couples have. Money can tear people apart, even the strongest couples. Now back to the case of Jane and John, she will feel as though it is what you do in a relationship is join together bank accounts adding your spouse to all your accounts. It is not a breach of trust to keep things separated. You stay equal in your relationship and still are able to share your money with one another.
When you first date someone they only show you the good side of them. It’s new and exciting and you want to make a great impression but you need to get to the core of this person. But as we learn from these shows it is unwise to take that at face value. They are wolves in sheep’s clothing and the victims don’t see it coming when they wolf tear their lives apart.
The worst one are the ones who don’t have a criminal record because their acts have never made it through the system. Some lie about their name and that’s what makes it harder. This makes it harder for you to dig deeper.
Tumblr media
If you notice that something isn’t right use your instincts and get out. It will get worse and no matter how many times you rationalize it there has to be a time when you leave and save yourself and your children. There is a point when trying to make the marriage work falls off the list of priorities especially when it comes to abuse. I had just watched an episode of Who the bleep did I Marry and this husband was drugging his wife every night so that he could have sex with her unconscious body. She finds out about the drugging and confronts him and she basically said don’t do it again, not this is messed up stay away from me. He did it again and she stayed after that, it wasn’t until she finds the videos that she decided this was what would break her and cause her to make a solid decision. Another thing that just baffles me is the ones where the woman or man gets a glimpse into the real person that they are and then they’re proposed to, they actually say yes despite continued abuse and mistreatment.
I’m not going to lie here and say that I know everything or that I’ve ever been completely wise in my past. But now that Im older and look back I at least can say once I saw the red flags I would walk away and keep myself safe. I’m glad for this though and it opened me up to finding someone perfect for me.
Tumblr media
Keep your eyes and mind opened to the world around you don’t allow someone to put you down, criticize you, deceive you, or control your life. You’re an independent person and you can still be in a relationship even if it isn’t with this person not treating you well. You will have problems in any relationship, but use a wise mind to pick out and weigh what you can fix and what you cannot. Don’t just jump into marriage lightly just because they seem perfect at the time. Live together feel each other out and learn their quirks before marriage even becomes a thought. I suggest doing as I do and binge watch these shows, especially Who the bleep did I Marry? Do it you won’t regret it!
Be wise my dear readers.
 Sincerely
Amanda M
