lady galadriel as a caregiver <3
"hello, little one. you must not fear: this is not a place of danger. it is a place of respite. i sense you are weary. come, let us rest. no harm will come to you here. i can see it written on your face that you do not believe it. but take my hand, darling -- you are allowed to breathe. feel the sun on your skin and the earth beneath your feet. i will care for you."
requested by @story-book-sillies and anon!
it's been much too long since i have seen these movies!! i hope i did our lady justice.
with each fictional caregiver, i aim to focus on a different thing, and i try to have them correspond to the characters themselves. for example: amanda young was focused on nightmares, and zeke landon was focused on how it's okay to feel "bad" feelings. with this one i want to stress the importance of rest. you are not a bad person for resting. please, friends, please do not feel bad for resting your body. if you have the desire to rest, there is a reason for that. your body needs it. <3

Okay but them "just happening" to all be male and the main quest "just happening" to fall into their hands is part of the problem, whether the main characters want to go on the quest or not. The 'living is more important than war' message can't be divorced from the fact it puts Eowyn into the more stereotypically feminine caregiving role. Galadriel's story can't be divorced from the shitty 'women are corrupted by power/can't handle it/go mad from power' trope that's gone on forever.
I'm not saying LOTR is bad or that these aren't good characters with good stories. Sometimes even a good story has an inescapable amount of stereotype/old bad trope. Cersei Lannister is the same way with 'ambitious woman is actually bad at her job and is probably gonna go mad with power' and I am all about Cersei Lannister. That doesn't mean the sexist tropes her story feeds are suddenly not worth talking about just because she's a well done example of said trope with interiority and an arc and is treated like a person. I am saying the same thing about LOTR - brushing the series' issues with gender (and the subsequent influence on other fantasy stories) isn't helping anything.
I'm glad it doesn't feel exclusionary to you but to many LOTR fans, it IS.
was thinking about why the lack of female characters in lotr and the hobbit dosen't feel like exclusion and it's because they're just dudes being friends, like they are all just a gang of besties wandering about and the three female characters basically go "right we're doing this now" and they all just go "alright we're doing this now :)"

From the prompt list
(CW for described violence, gore, and body mutilation.)
Pens, pencils, markers, and crayons all glided and scratched across paper. Most of the children in second period were talking and joking and giggling, in fact all of them except for Adam Dowling. Adam sat alone, in the back of the class, surrounded by his supplies. He was hunched over his paper, barely looking up when one of the girls approached his desk. A mere glance at her and her bright pink hair bows, then straight back down to his paper.
“What’re you drawing, Adam?” She asked sweetly, but the young boy rolled his eyes at her.
“The destruction of heavens armies and the impending death of the angels you lot praise so blindly once I take my rightful place as crown prince of Hell.” Adam held his picture up for the girl to see. A demonic beast, horns curling over an angry face, accentuated by its rows of sharp teeth, holding a sphere of some sort in one hand and being handed a crown on the other side. All around the figure are the bloodied corpses of angels, gold glitter glue spilling from their bodies, wings broken and limbs mangled with their torsos stabbed through spikes erupting from the ground.
The girls horrified face was enough to make the seven year old boy grin wildly. “What’s wrong?” He asked, sadistically. “Am I scaring you?”
That was enough to send the girl screaming and crying all the way to the bathroom, and enough to land Adam in the headmaster’s office.
Adam had his arms crossed, not paying much attention as the headmaster attempted to explain why such graphic images were not allowed, but he only perked up when the door to the office opened, and a figure clad in a gothic dress and dark black glasses entered.
“Nanny!” The boy exclaimed as she laid a gloved hand on his shoulder.
“Hello dear.” She greeted him with a smile that would send shivers down the spine of a grown man.
The headmaster watched the interaction, and motioned for the woman to sit down, which she did.
“Were his parents unavailable?” he asked, bluntly.
“Oh most certainly. They almost always are. I’m Adam’s primary caregiver. What’s this all about a drawing now?”
The paper was slid forward on the headmaster’s desk, towards the woman so she could see. She peered over her glasses at it, seeming to more so inspect the quality of the detail than anything else. She then looked up at the man as if to indicate she didn’t see the issue.
“These, these graphic depictions of violence, we can’t allow this kind of behavior on school grounds!”
Nanny Ashtoreth said a very soft “oh”.
“This isn’t the first time this has happened, as I’m sure you’re aware.” She nodded her head slowly. “Adam will have to face disciplinary actions. He’s going to have three days of out of school suspension. I trust you’ll take this time to speak with his parents, and perhaps get him in to see a psychologist.”
Nanny Ashtoreth nodded her head again and stood up. “Of course. May I? To show his parents.” She nodded to the picture, holding her hand out for it.
“Of course.” The paper was handed over to her.
“Get your bag, Adam dear.” Adam was nearly bouncing as he stood up and slung his backpack over his shoulder. He took Nanny’s hand and began walking with her out of the building.
The picture was later hung up on the refrigerator.

I’m a little nervous to make this request but I’m going to go for it anyways! 😅
I saw that your requests were open again so I thought I’d ask for one if that’s ok! I saw that you have LOTR on your fandom list and I was wondering if I could get a caregiver Galadriel moodboard if that’s alright?
There’s like, zero agere content with her so I thought I’d make a request! No worries if not! Thank you! 🌸
