FAR RIGHT RIOTS
REBLOG THIS PLEASE!!
shit is bad in the UK but obviously it is immensly confusing and I know some people wouldn't want to search up the news given how volatile it is, so here is a timeline of events. warnings for talk of violence, child death, racism, police ect
Monday 29/07: mass stabbing occured in Southport at a kids dance class, three girls died on scene, several others were hospitalised. An at time unnamed 17 y old boy was arrested on suspicion, and a knife was seized. later
Tuesday 30/07: having read false news suggesting that the attacker was a muslim immigrant who had arrived on a small boat, far-right groups with links to the EDL their leader Tommy Robinson took to the internet to imply the attacker was Muslim attacked a mosque in Southport, and after being declared a public disturbance, the police showed up and started trying to disperse them. This very quickly spiralled into a riot in which 39 police were hospitalised. Also on this day, Nigel fucking Farage, leader of far-right party Reform UK tweeted a video in which asked if the police were lying that the attack was not "terror related", furthering belief that the attacker was Muslim
Wednesday 31/07: violent anti immigrant protest continued, and there were mass riots in London. The PM spoke out denouncing the far right rioters as "violent thugs who would feel the full force of the law"
Thursday 01/08 : to try and curb the spread of misinformation, the police released the identity of their suspect - Axel Rudakubana, born in Cardiff to Rwandan parents in hope that the confirmation that he is not a Muslim immigrant would stop the rioting. It has not. PM Starmer released a statement saying that these were "coordinated attacks by the far right. " and that "this is not a protest that got out of hand these are individuals bent on violence"
Friday Night 02/08: Riots started in Sunderland late at night with reports of "serious violence". Starmer announced he had a plan to tackle far right violence.
Saturday 03/08: New far right mob action started in Manchester, Bristol, Hull, Belfast, Stoke, and Nottingham. Nottingham saw the first counterprotest, and as I write this, clashes between antifacist protestors and the far right is on going. The racists are setting fire to migrant housing buildings and attacking both police and counterprotestors countrywide. Dispersal orders have been issued for every city centre and major town centre across the UK.
Sunday 04/08: a "nick em quick" approach is to be used against the rioters in a hope to remove the far right mob from the street as soon as possible. There have been over 100 arrests. There are no plans to bring in the army, say ministers. There is a current attack on a migrant housing building in Rotherham.
I will keep posting updates as this unfolds so watch this space. This is obviously terrifying, so I want you to focus on actionable points.
stop the spread of misinformation. i can cite all my sources on a different post if you would like, but know that i visited ten different news sites, and also watched all the live news coverage to make this post. if you see any new information, fact check it. if you see someone spreading misinformation anywhere, DO SOMETHING. call them out and correct them and if they don't fix it, report them.
take care of any of your friends who aren't white, or if you aren't white, consider not going anywhere alone. racists don't discriminate in their discrimination. they are violent, deranged, and several are armed.
unless you are attending a counterprotest, stay the fuck out of town and city centres!!!!
STAY SAFE OUT THERE!! always in solidarity

Never Stopped Loving You | Tommy Shelby
Pairing: Tommy Shelby x Reader
Request: From anon
Warnings: Swearing. Mentions of war, heartbreak, jealousy (?), a tiny little bit of Grace bashing but just so you know this is based between season 1 & 2 (more towards season 2) so readers dislike towards Grace is after her betrayal not her death
Word Count: 2,276
Tommy Shelby Masterlist | Main Masterlist
Y/N watches from the other side of the Garrison as Tommy sits across from a woman, a pretty brunette she hasn't bothered learning the name of. She didn't hate the woman; she didn't even know her but she did pity her. In fact, she pitied any woman that came across Thomas Shelby. All but one. Grace didn't deserve her pity.
It's a business meeting, she knows that. Polly informed her yesterday during her visit to her home. She doesn’t know why Polly told her or why she cared to remember it. After the day she had going over last minute details for her sister's wedding, she wanted a drink before she went dancing with some friends and she'd been hoping to catch up with John to see if him and Esme needed any thing as they await the arrival of their new baby.
After ordering another drink, she looks back to her former lover and his new potential business partner and takes the woman in. There's no denying she's pretty but she can also see the way she's looking at him. It was the same way they all eventually look at him. Yes, she pities all but one woman that comes across him.
Thomas Shelby always had a certain charm about him. It wasn't just those stunningly beautiful blue eyes, high cheek bones, the scatter of freckles that covers his face, how impeccable he dresses, or the smooth tone of his voice that has the ladies enraptured by him. Even before the war, he knew how to get what he wanted, his main weapon being that silver tongue of his.
"Does he know that you're here?" She hears Polly say from beside her as she joins her at the bar. Polly orders herself a drink before she turns to face her, leaning against the bar.
"Would it matter if he did?" she answers with her own rhetorical question.
"You know nothing gets past him," Polly reminds her, picking up her drink off the bar and takes a drink.
"I did," she also reminds Polly.
Y/N had been one of those pitiful women who found herself under Tommy's spell. But back then they were just kids. Two fools who thought that not even a war could separate them. How foolish they were.
Before the war, it was good. Tommy smiled and laughed more, he was more loving and kinder to himself and those around him. He didn't have blood on his hands or a distant look in his eyes. His eyes sparkled with the good kind of mischief, a love for life and hopes and dreams that didn't include violence and him becoming a man to be feared of. He was a sweet man with a beautiful soul and so much like his mother. She'd fallen completely in love with him and when he proposed a month before war was declared, she didn't hesitate to say yes.
During the war, when he would come home for breaks, she could see and feel him putting up walls and becoming distant with her. The light in his eyes was slowly fading. He was less kind, less loving and less like the Tommy she'd fallen in love with. But she still loved him so much that she would stay beside him and be there for when he needed her.
But by the time the war was over, Tommy was but of a shell of his former self. Eventually the couple parted ways with Tommy acting as though their break up had no affect on him while her heart completely shattered into a million pieces.
Y/N couldn't stay in Small Heath after that. She moved to London for a year before coming back when she got a job offer from the Small Heath school only to witness Tommy fall in love and open up to another woman who would only end up betraying him. It was six months ago, she moved to Bristol to help her brother take care of his sick wife and three children. But now she's back again, not able to stay away from her home town. This time it isn't permanent. Her younger sister is getting married tomorrow, and she couldn't miss it, no matter how much it hurts to be back in the city that brought her so much joy and heartache.
"He's a fool for ever letting that happen," Polly says, letting her bitterness over their break up be known even though it's been a few years.
"We were both fools for thinking we'd make it through anything," she finishes her drink and places the empty glass on the bar top as she stands up from the stool she's sitting on.
"You know he's still got it," Polly says stopping her in her tracks as she begins to walk away from the woman who is like an aunt to her. "I watched him take it to the cut. He contemplated throwing it away but he couldn't bring himself to do it."
"Maybe he wants to use it for the next woman who falls under his spell," she says keeping her back to the older woman and leaves the Garrison.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, Miss!” an elderly gentleman exclaims, handing Y/N a beautiful rose as she walks down the street to the store the next day. She’d forgotten about the silly day in the midst of rushing around to get things sorted for her sister’s big day, which just so happened to be today of all things.
Looking at the man and seeing his large smile, she couldn’t bring herself to disappoint the man. She takes the rose and smells it. “Thank you, sir. You’ve just made my day so much better.”
“Do you not have a valentine?” he asks her. “A pretty lady like yourself should have all the men falling to her feet.”
“Well, to be honest, even if there were I would still choose none of them,” she admits.
“Whoever broke your heart, he’s a right fool,” the man says.
“Oh, you have no idea,” she chuckles.
“If I wasn’t married to me Mrs., I would be your valentine.”
“Your wife is a lucky woman,” Y/N smiles.
“I’m the lucky the one,” he admits. “I’ll let you get on your way. You looked to be in a rush.”
“Thank you for the rose,” she thanks him and says goodbye as she carries on her way.
Entering the store, she grabs what she needs to, pays and heads back to her sister’s home, smiling the whole way.
“Where have you been?!” her sister shouts as she walks through the door. “I have to be ready and at the church in an hour. Where did you get that?”
Y/N’s eyes follow her sister’s gaze to the rose in her hand. “A lovely old man gave it to me.”
“Are you into older men now?” her sister teases. “I guess all the men your age are married now. What’s better than a rich widowed old man?”
“I’ll have you know, he was being nice,” Y/N frowns at her sister. In her time away from Birmingham, she’d forgotten her younger sister could be mean. “Clearly something you know nothing about.”
“I can be nice. So nice in fact, I've invited the only man you’ll ever love to the wedding.”
Y/N wants nothing more than to smack the smug smirk of her sister’s face but decides to play ignorant instead. “And who would that be?”
“Don’t play daft, dear sister,” she laughs shaking her head as she gets into her wedding dress with the seamstresses help. “Tommy, of course.”
“Well, don’t be too disappointed if he doesn’t show up," she says causing her sister to roll her eyes.
Tommy surprised Y/N. He'd come to the wedding. She could feel his eyes boring into her through out the ceremony. Keeping her eyes on the bride and groom, she tried to ignore it. Even now as she dances with her new brother-in-law, she can feel her former lovers eyes on her and as he stands behind her, his cologne invades her senses. It's the same cologne that she'd bought him for his last birthday they spent together.
"Mind if I cut in, mate?" His smooth voice reaches her ears as he asks Paul. Her body stiffens, her heart dropping into her stomach as her plans to ignore him and his overwhelming presence is dashed.
"Of course, Mr. Shelby," he smiles and steps away from her. She goes to stop him, only for Tommy to take his place.
"Did you really think I wouldn't notice that you are back?" he asks, his arm moving around her waist as she takes one of her hands into his.
She hesitantly places her hand on his shoulders as they start to dance, "I was hoping you would be too busy to notice. You seemed rather busy last night."
He had seen her in the garrison the night before. If he hadn't been in the middle of a business meeting he would have gone after her when she left. Instead he decided last minute to accept the invitation to her sister's wedding, hoping he to get a moment with her.
"I saw you," he admits. "I was hoping you would stay long enough so I could speak to you."
"Is that why you're here?" she asks him, still knowing him better than anyone else.
"I had to see you some way," he tells her.
"There's nothing that needs to be said between us, Thomas," she removes his hands from her and steps back from him. Tommy was her first love. He was her only love and as much as she tried to move on from him, she couldn't. She leaves the dance floor and grabs her purse before leaving the venue without saying goodbye to anyone.
Instead of walking back to her mother's house, where she's been staying for the past week, she finds herself down at the Cut, under the bridge her and Tommy would sneak under when they first started their relationship.
As many of the happier memories with Tommy flood, her eyes begin to sting from the tears forming in them. The young couple had many happy memories with each other and they far outweighed the bad. Closing her eyes she remembers the way his lips felt against hers, the way his fingers would lightly trace circles on her skin when his hands slipped under her shirt and how tightly he would hold her against him as if he were afraid she would leave him.
Her eyes shoot open as she hears footsteps coming towards her, quickly wiping away her tears she tries to make her exit when the person comes into view. It's Tommy.
She finds her feet no longer want to work as she freezes on the spot. He looks just as surprised to see her. After a moment of just staring at each other, YN decides to speak.
"You were right about us needing to talk," she begins. "I've been wanting to say this for a while and you are going to listen and not say anything until I am done."
Tommy goes to interrupt her, opening his mouth to say something when she holds up her hand, stopping him.
"I love you, Tom, more than I've loved anyone," she tells him. "When we ended our relationship you we're supposed to fight for it. But you just stood there, a blank look on your face, saying nothing at all while my heart broke into a million pieces. You were supposed to fight for me, fight for us. Instead you fell in love with another woman who broke your heart and-"
"I love you too," Tommy says cutting her off as he steps closer to her. "You're the only woman I've ever loved. Grace didn't break my heart because it was already broken from the war and letting you go. She was only a distraction to stop myself from going after you. You deserved better than me and who I became. I wanted to give you the world, promise you things would get better, be the man who deserved you. I didn’t want to pull you into the mess I created. I loved you to much for that. You’re so innocent and good and I’m nothing but a bad man who does bad things."
“Not all of us are angels, Tom,” she says.
“But you are,” he tells her.
“Well then, I’m an angel who’s fallen in love with the devil.”
“And the devil just so happens to love her back,” he adds, his arms moving around her waist to pull her closer.
This time she lets him, no longer wanting to get as far away from his as possible. “We still have a lot to work through.”
“We’ll work through it all because I’m not going to let you go again,” he tells her. “I made that mistake once. I don’t plan on making it again. I’m going to make it up to you.”
“And you can start by kissing me like you use to under this bridge,” a small hint of a smile appears on her lips. “And then we can go from there.”
Tommy smiles, cupping her face and plants his lips on hers, kissing her softly as though he’s resting the waters. When she doesn’t reconsider, he kisses her harder and holds her tighter like he’s afraid she’ll leave him again. He ends the kiss leaving his lips only an inch from hers as he tells her, “I never stopped loving you.”
“I never stopped stopped loving you too,” she replies, pressing her lips back to his.

Happy 92nd Birthday veteran Scottish actress Phyllida Law, born on May *8th 1932 in Glasgow.
Wiki has 8th July on the first line of their page on Phyllida, but on the side panel has May 8th, so who knows!?
There is very little about her early life except she was born in Glasgow, the daughter of Megsie “Meg” and William Law, a journalist. She said once of he Glasgow upbringing “When you grow up in Glasgow with a Glaswegian granny, you’re taught that pride is a wicked thing. I still feel a bit like that.“ Phyllida grew up in Glasgow’s west end, just off Great Western Road, but war broke out when she was just seven and she found herself evacuated to places such as Lenzie, in Dunbartonshire, and Skelmorlie, Ayrshire.
That gave her a love for the Scots countryside which means she now splits her life between her home in London and a family cottage in Argyll. Phyllida would fit in well with the Scottish & Proud ethos, in an interview she says:
“I’m passionate about my Scots heritage. How could I not be? I can’t live without it. There’s no way I could live without those hills and it’s got to be the west coast. “I sometimes travel to Edinburgh then go up to Pittenweem or somewhere and I think to myself, ‘This isn’t Scotland.’ It’s a wonderful coastline but it’s not Scotland for me.
“When my parents lived in Glasgow they were always looking for a cottage to which they could retire. They found one in Ardentinney, so I visit that a lot.
She joined the Bristol Old Vic in 1952, from what I can gather she was first in the wardrobe department, the first pic shows her standing, from a 1952 photo. Heron screen acting credits start in 1958 and are very extensive, the pick of them are Dixon of Dock Green and a stint as the storyteller in the great children’s show Jackanory in the 60’s. It must have been during her time in the BBC’s children’s TV department she met her husband to be The Magic Roundabout narrator Eric Thompson, She has previously stated that the character of Ermintrude the cow was modelled on her.
Angels in the 70’s and of course Taggart in the 80’s as well Thomson, the variety series hosted by actress Emma Thompson in 1988, Emma just happens to be her daughter. Heartbeat, Hamish Macbeth and Dangerfield in the 90’s, Waking the dead and Doctors in the noughties has kept her busy, now in her 86th year she has still been appearing on the small screen, in The Other Wife and New Tricks during the past 8 years. Film roles include She is known for her work on Much Ado About Nothing , The Time Machine and The Winter Guest.
Phyllida spends most of her time in Argyll in a house she shares with her daughter Emma. who is spending more time looking after her mother, as she was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2915.
Phyllida constantly needs the support of a wheelchair and even assistance when washing due to the effect the condition is having on her.
Due to the progressive nature of the condition, symptoms tend to gradually worsen over time. It is common for individuals to struggle both with walking and talking at the height of the condition.
Phyllida herself spoke about the burdens of looking after an infirm parent, she looked after her mother, Meg who suffered with Alzheimer’s disease. Mego died in 1994 aged 93 after almost 20 years of being cared for by Ms Law at her mother's home in the village of Ardentinny on the west coast, near Dunoon.
Emma said of her mother “Mum is quite lame so it's a case of taking her out in a wheelchair, and making sure she takes her medication. The meds are amazing."

Today was a tough one lovelies. I really want to thank all of you who reached out when I was struggling, it meant a lot to me. I know some of you said we didn't know each other-- but I just wanna throw out there that you're part of this crew, and even if we haven't talked or interacted much, your love means the world to me and everyone else you send it to. Every single one of you who's willing to reach out-- to a friend/crewmate who has asked, or hasn't asked and just looks like they need it, or you're just spreading a bit of joy-- you make this world such a better place. You take sadness and you turn it into solace and comfort. You share a little piece of yourself to make someone else's missing pieces start to be whole again.
I just want you to know how powerful that kindness is. It can mean the absolute world to someone when they are truly down, to know they are seen and cared about, even by the briefest of acquaintance. Seriously, thank you. You are a glimmer of sunshine on hard days and the impact you make is immense. Tonight, I just want to say thank you so so much for your kindness. Love you crew, I hope you're well.

Princess Anne cancels trip to Canada after suffering head injuries
Princess Anne, the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, has been hospitalised with minor injuries and concussion following an incident at her Gatcombe Park estate, The Guardian reports.
Princess Anne, 73, suffered concussion and minor injuries, believed to have been caused by hitting her head or kicking a horse on her estate on Sunday. She was left in hospital for treatment, examination and observation.
A statement from Buckingham Palace said the following:
“The Princess Royal sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident at Gatcombe Park estate last night. Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery. The king has been kept closely informed and joins the whole royal family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to the princess for a speedy recovery.”
Anne is believed to have been within the secure perimeter of Gatcombe Park estate, where she lives, at the time of the incident.
There were horses nearby and medics believe her injuries, believed to be minor head wounds, are consistent with a possible blow to the horse’s head or legs.
The princess is said to be conscious in hospital. However, due to the concussion she received, the exact details of the accident could not be ascertained. Anne, who is an Olympic medal-winning equestrian, was walking rather than riding at the time.
Emergency services were sent to the scene and she was transported to Southmead Hospital after being treated at the scene.
Princess Anne will have to put her plans on hold
Her husband, Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, and her children, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall, were on the estate at the time. Her husband accompanied her to hospital. She is expected to be able to return home later this week, but because of the incident, events planned for the coming week will be postponed.
Anne was due to visit Canada later this week but on medical advice will now not go. Plans to accommodate the planned events are currently being looked at in close co-operation with the Canadian government.
It also means she will not be able to attend a palace banquet on Tuesday in honour of Japan’s state visit. A Buckingham Palace spokesman said:
“Her Royal Highness is recovering well, is in a comfortable condition and remains in hospital for further observation as a precautionary measure. Her Royal Highness is receiving appropriate expert care. No further details are being shared at this stage. Her Royal Highness will remain in Southmead hospital unless or until her medical team advise otherwise.”
King Charles, Queen Camilla, the Prince of Wales, and Anne’s other siblings, the Duke of Edinburgh and Duke of York, were all informed last night.
The palace spokesperson said:
“On doctors’ advice, Her Royal Highness’s engagements for the week ahead will be postponed. Her Royal Highness sends her apologies to any who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result. The Japanese state visit will go ahead as planned, though sadly Her Royal Highness will be unable to attend the state banquet tomorrow.”

She grew up in a relatively happy childhood, and despite the one-sided rivalry between her and Juliana, she never asked for nothing and was destined to a great match, and she made one in Bruce McAlpin. However, the match didn't last long, for Denegifu perished in childbirth after a complicated and long labour.
MISC
Denegifu is adept in the lyre, knows how to sing, dance and recite poetry in Latin and Greek
She was a fervent Catholic
Out of her sisters, she was the most beautiful, and all the knights fought for her favour from an early age

She had planned to go to Hogwarts, but was instead married. She wished for her children to have an education despite being married
She would've been a Hufflepuff, and always dreamt of being an apprentice of Helga like her mother
She was also taught Danish by her father
She was devastated by Akelda's death, and such an early demise sadly affected her already complicated pregnancy, setting her demise as well

Visited Bristol over the weekend for a wedding so here's some sketches I did whilst people-watching on the train :-)
Highkey got super anxious doing these studies because I felt like a CREEP watching someone sleep so I could practice drawing Real People™. The only "reassuring" element was how many tiktoks I've seen of people drawing on the tube or Amtrak of the fellow passengers so it's a somewhat normal thing for artists to do???
But regardless of the moral implications, I am glad I did it. It's an indispensable practice of real anatomy, not hyper-glorified "cutesy" conventionally attractive people (i.e. Disney/anime faces with huge eyes and very little other facial features).
I REALLY like drawing normal, average looking people. I don't care for drawing "hot" people, I LOVE "ugly" characters.
I love "ugly" art.
I love fat rolls and wrinkles and cellulite and body hair and scares and dimples and atypical anatomy and asymmetry. I love the things that consider people ugly or unattractive. I love big ears I love big teeth I love crooked noses I love missing teeth or tooth gaps I love super fat lips I love no lips I love one fat lip one invisible lip I love gummy smiles I love tiny beady eyes I love crows feet I love smile lines I love love handles.
I'm so OVER this mentality of perfection and extremely high beauty standards. Humans are so fucking INTERESTING both mentally and visually that just, only wanting the idyllic elements of them is SO fucking boring now. It's SO done. We've rinsed it, repeated it, fucking put it on loop, it's had it's G.D. time.
Give me the ugliest mfs you've ever seen in your life. THEY have my attention. People whose faces tell a story, people whose skin you can read like braille. People whose wrinkles you can date back like tree rings. People whose smiles make you feel more than just empathic happiness. People whose smiles make you feel anguish and sorrow and hope and optimism and dread and existential nihilism. People whose smiles make you feel their entire journey before your eyes have even met theirs.
Perfection is manicured, it's tangible and linear and structured and cohesive. Perfection is everything the human experience isn't.
I love you, imperfect and ugly people. If you have one fan, it is me. If you have no fans, I am dead. I love you SO much.
You may not get told it, but you are an inspiration.
You are my inspiration.

Bristol UK - The Red Lodge
The Red Lodge Museum is a historic house museum in Bristol, England. The original building was Tudor/Elizabethan, and construction began in 1579–1580, possibly to the design of Sebastiano Serlio. The main additional building phases are from the 1730s and the early 19th century.
The Red Lodge is a free museum but runs on donations, and is managed as a branch of Bristol City Council.
The artworks on display at the Red Lodge are listed on the Art UK website
The Red Lodge was originally built at the top of the gardens of "ye Great House of St. Augustine's Back". The Great House was built in 1568 on the site of an old Carmelite Priory, later still the site of Bristol Beacon (formerly named Colston Hall), by Sir John Young/Yonge, the descendant of a merchant family and courtier to Henry VIII and Elizabeth I.
The Red Lodge would have originally been used as an additional guest house and entertainment pavilion, so that the Young family could promenade their guests through their eight ornamental gardens and orchards to wine and dine them.
Sir John Young died in 1589, and the Red Lodge was completed in 1590 by his widow Dame Joan. From an ancient Somerset and Devon family, Dame Joan was a sister and co-heiress of Nicholas Wadham, co-founder with his wife Dorothy Wadham of Wadham College, Oxford. She was married firstly to Sir Giles Strangways (1528-1562) of Melbury Sampford and then to John Young, who was knighted by Queen Elizabeth I when she stayed with the Youngs at The Great House on her visit to Bristol in 1574, and the arms of Young impaling Wadham are carved above the porch entrance to the Great Oak Room at the Red Lodge. A fine monument to Joan Wadham (1533–1603) with her recumbent effigy lies at the west entrance to nearby Bristol Cathedral.
Their son, Robert Young inherited the entire estate. Robert quickly spent his inheritance and had to convey the Red Lodge to his half-brother Nicholas Strangways to avoid seizure. By 1595, the building was rented out to various tenants as a residence separate from the Great House. Robert Young eventually sold the Great House to Sir Hugh Smyth of Ashton Court. It is now a museum in the care of Bristol City Council...

Malex Fic - Let your heart be light
A day late, but this a little fluff for Day 2 of @rnmnewyear2023 Holiday Lights. This is part of an AU I haven’t written yet. The relevant things to know are Michael and Alex left Roswell after Alex was injured but before any of he events of S1 would have happened. Alex is a music teacher and Michael is an agricultural engineer working as a consultant. Pharaoh is Alex's service dog.
Title is from “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” Thank you to @im-the-punk-who for the song suggestion.
Let your heart be light on AO3
The first year Alex taught at Bristol, Michael kept his distance. He wanted to give people a chance to accept that their new music teacher was a disabled vet with a service dog before reminding them that he also had a husband instead of a wife. But it didn’t take long for Michael to recognize some of the best parts of Roswell in Bristol.
He and Alex were welcomed without question. A small, farming community, Bristol had a hard time keeping and attracting younger residents. When the last music teacher retired, the school had gone two years without a music program until Alex agreed to take the job. The farmers and ranchers had been surprisingly open to working with Michael, eagerly listening to his ideas for making their farms more efficient and profitable. The fact that they were married to each other was unimportant in light of what they offered the community.
Once Michael got to know most of the families in Bristol and the kids Alex taught, his presence at school events was expected. He was reminded that not only should he be there to support his “handsome husband,” but in a town as small as Bristol, school events are community events. So Michael spends the first two weeks of December attending a series of school concerts.
The elementary concerts come first. Kindergarten through third grade on Tuesday followed by fourth grade through sixth grade on Thursday. The gym is packed both nights - filled with parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles and any other adult that can claim a tangible connection to one of the children performing. Michael squeezes into a seat in the back row, letting the parents battle it out for seats with the best camera views.
Michael can tell how nervous Alex is at the beginning of each concert as he thanks everyone for coming and goes through the song order for the night. He keeps his eyes fixed on a spot on the wall, and Pharaoh is pressed tightly against Alex’s leg. But once he turns to the students lined up on the stage, the tension in his shoulders eases, and even though he can’t see Alex’s face, Michael knows he’s giving the kids a reassuring smile before they begin.
Alex keeps the elementary concerts lighthearted and fast paced - full of songs about snowmen, reindeer and sledding. There is almost as much dancing as there is singing, and Michael can see the effort Alex put into making sure each child has a chance to shine. Alex plays the piano for some songs and directs the students for others - Pharaoh relaxed at his feet throughout. Michael laughs and claps along with the rest of the audience, regretting his choice of a seat in the back when Alex guides the kindergartners through pantomiming a snowball fight, and he doesn’t have a good angle to film him.
After the concerts, Michael sticks close to Alex while he accepts hugs from his students and thank you’s from their parents. Michael knows he’s beaming as proudly as the parents are, but he can’t bring himself to care. He loves seeing how much the school has embraced Alex and seeing Alex confident enough to enjoy the attention.
Every now and then, Michael feels a tug on his sleeve and one of the kids he knows from visiting farms or from Alex’s music lessons will be trying to get his attention. “Mr. Guerin’s husband,” they begin, which never fails to make him smile, before asking if he saw their solo or favorite dance move. Michael’s more than happy for them to reenact their favorite part of the concert while they wait for their parents to finish talking with Alex.
It’s late by the time they’ve said goodbye to everyone, and Alex has finished his part of the teardown. On Thursday night, as they make their way through the parking lot, Pharaoh happily walking between them, Michael gets an idea. “Next year we should get one of those antler headbands for Pharaoh.”
Alex gives him an unimpressed look, “She would never forgive you.”
Once they are in the truck, Pharaoh knows she’s off duty so Michael doesn’t hesitate to hold her face and kiss her nose before speaking to her. “You’d wear the antlers, wouldn’t you girl,” he coos. “They kids would love it if you looked like Rudolph.”
Alex just laughs and rests his head on Michael’s shoulder. “Stop tormenting my dog and take me home.”
“Yes, dear,” Michael teases back as he starts the truck.
The next week brings the high school choir concert. It’s Alex’s least favorite class since most of the students are only in it to get an art credit needed for graduation. If they don’t play an instrument and don’t want to take an art class, choir is their only option. There are only twelve students in the class so the gym is only half full - the audience dwindled down to parents and Michael.
The concert goes by quickly. Michael can tell the students are doing their best not to stand out, and Alex has chosen songs that focus on group singing rather than individual talents. When it’s all over, Michael couldn’t name a single song from the concert since he spent the whole time watching Alex at the piano, a sight he will never tire of.
The students rush off as soon as they are released, and it doesn’t take long for Alex to speak with the parents that stay after. Michael is happy to have an early night in this otherwise busy time of year. Once they’re home, he lights a fire in the fireplace and reminds Alex of just how much he likes watching him play the piano.
The last concert of the season is the seven through twelve grade band concert, and the one Alex is most excited about. He’s been eager to show off his favorite class to everyone, especially Michael. He’s been bragging for months about how hard this class works despite their limitations. Bristol is a small school district which means the band is also small, many of the students can’t afford instruments and while they can get them from the school, the school’s instruments are older and not in the best shape - Michael is working on that, slowly repairing what he can. Many bands rely on their students taking private lessons, and Alex is the only music teacher within reasonable driving distance, and many students don’t have time for lessons.
Alex let the band choose their own songs for the concert, and they surprised even him with the challenging material they picked. For the last few months, Alex has been holding extra practice after school three days a week to get them ready for the concert. They get to the school earlier than normal since the set up for the concert band is more complicated than the previous concerts. Even Pharaoh picks up on Alex’s nerves, sticking closer to him than she usually does when it’s just Michael and Alex.
Once the chairs are set up and the students start coming in, Alex and Pharaoh head for the band room, and Michael wanders back to the gym. He talks to some of the parents and teachers he knows before taking a program and finding a seat. It’s another packed house for the concert, and Michael ends up between Mrs. Winthrop whose grandson plays the french horn Michael fixed up over the summer and Linda Myers whose daughter is in seventh grade and plays clarinet. Her two younger daughters, who sang in the elementary concerts, lean over their mother to wave at Michael.
Alex spends a little more time introducing the band than he did at the other concerts. He makes sure to emphasize the difficulty of the material and all the extra work the students put in. Michael can tell he’s more excited than nervous so he’s hopeful the performance will live up to expectations. Once the music begins, Michael can’t look away from Alex. When he was working on his degree, Alex thought conducting would be his least favorite part of teaching, but he ended up falling in love with it. His passion shows throughout the concert, and Michael is not ashamed to admit he thinks Alex is hot as hell when he’s conducting..
The band’s performance is impressive, and they get a standing ovation after every song. Before the final song, one of the seniors Michael recognizes but can’t name comes out to the front of the band.
“Our last song is ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,’ and we had a bet with Mr. Guerin. If we made it to this point in the concert without any major mistakes, he would join us for this song, and I would get to conduct. Do you think we won the bet?” she asks the audience with a wink.
The applause is deafening, and Michael joins in, clapping his hands and whistling.
“That’s what I thought. I’ll take this,” she takes the baton from Alex’s hand and gives him the microphone.
Once she turns toward the band, Michael waits for Alex to walk to the piano, but instead one of the other students brings him a chair. The music starts, and after a few bars, Alex begins to sing:
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on
Our troubles will be out of sight
Michael lets out a gasp as tears begin to stream down his face. Alex keeps his eyes on Michael as he sings, and Michael’s not sure he breathes through the entire song. He can’t believe his beautiful, amazing husband who barely left the house the first year they were married, is singing in front of his students and most of their community. He’s not sure he’s ever been prouder.
Mrs. Winthrop pats him on the shoulder and hands him a tissue. When the song ends, Michael is still frozen in place until Lisa nudges him and he gets to his feet along with the rest of the audience. “You got yourself a good one,” she whispers in his ear.
Michael wipes his eyes and nods without looking away from Alex, who is grinning and watching as his students take their bows. It’s all he can do to keep from flinging himself into Alex’s arms once the concert is over. He settles for standing next to Alex and tightly clutching his hand.
Everyone wants to talk to Alex - students and parents hugging him and thanking him for all his hard work. Alex easily deflects the compliments, but Michael loudly agrees with everyone who tells Alex how wonderful he is. Michael’s vibrating with so much energy that Pharaoh side-eyes him and leans into his leg like she does with Alex when he is stressed.

Bristol Flats For Sale
Bristol For many first-time buyers, flats and apartments offer an exciting and affordable way to get on the property ladder in desirable Bristol and city locations. With no garden to maintain and amenities on your doorstep, flats accommodate busy lifestyles comfortably. However, selecting the ideal property requires careful consideration. The first step is defining your priorities - are schools, transport links or nightlife most essential? Floor number preferences also factor in for lifestyle and price. Establishing clear search criteria focused on non-negotiables streamlines your journey immensely. With parameters set, explore promising areas meeting your needs. Compare statistics such as average flat prices, local amenities and quality-of-life ratings to establish pragmatic expectations. Visit proposed neighborhoods to absorb atmosphere beyond numbers. Location ultimately boils down to transport access versus outdoor space value for your routine. Inner zones near stations provide swift commutes but limited private outlooks. Outer areas balance larger room sizes and direct transport costs. Bristol Property type also affects costs and responsibilities long-term. New-build flats offer designer finishes in amenity-rich locations at premium prices. Pre-loved converted houses provide historic charm and investment potential closer to the average first-time buyer budget. Evaluate individual properties shrewdly. Factor room configurations and storage solutions, transport links, maintenance and service charges into affordability alongside sale price. Quality fixtures and modernized bathrooms elevate livability significantly. Methodical research into locations, development amenities and showcase flats educates informed choices. Viewings require scrutiny beyond curb appeal to long-term suitability. Experienced conveyancers and mortgage advisors smooth the purchase process. With patience and perseverance, your ideal new home awaits discovery.

Olay additional questions now. Random orders.
1). How will Missy feel about Alex? What about other incarnations of The Master (John Simm in World Enough and Time and Sacha Dhawan in Spyfall)
2). How does The Toymaker feel about Alex?
3). What is in Alex's room in The God Complex?
4). How will Alex feel about Division, The Timeless Child and Tecteun?
5). How does Alex feel about 15 and having a more openly queer Doctor?
6). What happens in The Wedding of River Song now?
7). When will Alex meet Jenny? And when will Jenny meet Jack?
8). Will The Doctor and Alex go to Sarah Jane's funeral now that 15 has confirmed she has died?
9). Is Alex's Time Lord ancestor Romana? Or The Corsair?
10). Why does Alex not like Danny Pink?
And finally
11). Can we write snippets and short stories based in The Alex Locke universe, weaving in our OC Sky and the brother you created Johnny, and post them here if we give credit?
Great questions!
I don't want to say too much about Missy's feelings towards Alex out of fear of spoilers, but I will say Missy does care about Alex and doesn't want to see her harmed. Same goes for Sacha Dhawan's Master and, to a lesser degree, John Simm's Master.
To the Toymaker, Alex is a delightfully useful toy in his game against the Doctor. The Toymaker never would have guessed that the Doctor he first encountered would fall madly, passionately in love, so Alex is a new puzzle he tries to use to his advantage. And he does. We will see that in Alex's version of 'The Giggle'.
Not a swimming pool, I will say that much. Or anything related to her fear of water. Hopefully, the fear that is in Alex's room will make sense when we get to it.
Alex will hate the Division, Tecteun, all of it. They just might topple Kovarian and the Silence from their top spot on the list of things/people Alex hates the most.
Alex is more than okay with a Doctor who is more open about his sexuality, because she knows that while the Doctor might acknowledge certain people as attractive, she is the one he finds the most attractive, sexy, beautiful. . . Really, the list goes on, and 15 could easily go off on a monologue on his amazing wife (and probably does, much to Ruby's amusement).
Hehe, so much. I will say lots of characters (some canon, some OCs) will pop up and we'll get a lot of answers regarding Kovarian and the Silence's plans towards the Doctor, Alex, and River. You'll just have to wait and see!
Alex will meet Jenny sometime during the first half of Series 7. What I currently intend on doing is adapting one of the audio stories featuring Jenny ('Prisoner of the Ood') and having it take place in Bristol, while Alex is visiting Marigold and Lacey. Jenny will meet Jack also during the first half of Series 7, but she doesn't start a relationship with him right away as she's traveling with her dad and Alex on the TARDIS (plus, the moment the Doctor sees the obvious attraction between the two, he's anxious to keep the TARDIS from landing anywhere near 21st century Cardiff).
They will go to her funeral, yes. I'm thinking of having it turn into a wild Arrow-verse like event, where some big alien invasion happens while everyone's gathered at the funeral and the grieved mourners defiantly defending the Earth just as Sarah Jane would have done, but we'll have to see. Either way, it will be pretty rough for the Doctor and Alex. When exactly it will take place, I'm not sure, but I'm leaning towards during 13's era.
Oh, wow, that would be awesome if Alex's Time Lord ancestor was Romana! A bit full-circle, lol, since I've got my version of Eleven admitting he was attracted to Romana. It would also make sense, with Alex and Romana both being clever. Also would be interesting if her ancestor was the Corsair, but we'll have to wait and see who, exactly, it is (if it is one of those two!).
Alex mainly doesn't like Danny because of his immediately hostile attitude towards the Doctor. She also doesn't like how Clara feels tempted to lie to Danny all the time, something she points out to Clara constantly ("Wouldn't you rather be with someone you feel like you can trust?"). Aside from that, she has no particular dislike of Danny; she just feels he and Clara aren't compatible (and she's right).
Absolutely you can! Just give credit and tag me in the posts!
Thank you again for the questions! Keep them coming!

Happy Birthday veteran Scottish actress Phyllida Law, born on May 8th 1932 in Glasgow.

Imagine: Convincing The Doctor to let you visit Missy in the vault.
The Doctor (at least in this regeneration), wasn’t always so easily convinced sometimes. Often, there were times where he was too stubborn for his own good. So most of the time, you kept certain things to yourself. Not breathing a word because you always knew what the answer would be. But this time, even though you knew there would be a battle, you weren’t going to lose so easily. Here you were standing before The Doctor, putting your best face on. You swallowed. Trying to conjure your words. Today, you would ask him to visit someone. Someone who was dangerous, yet very dear to you. Missy. The Master’s female Incarnation. Missy, was currently being imprisoned in a vault under St. Luke’s University, in Bristol. She spent every waking moment there. Alone. Suffering.
So you wanted to visit her. To talk to her. To give her some sort of comfort in the form of a familiar face.
“Doctor…” You began.
The Doctor, who was playing with buttons on the TARDIS console, looked over to you. At first, he was quiet. Studying you. Like he knew the familiar tone and look on your face. But finally, he spoke up. “Yes, Y/N, what is it? I can see you’re desperate to ask me something.”
“You would be correct.” You nodded. “There was something that I wanted to ask you.” You bite down on your lower lip.
“What is it then?” The Doctor waved a hand. “Because we don’t have all day here. I’m very busy with…things.” He added. But really was making excuses.
“I want to see Missy.” You blurted out.
The Doctor’s eyes grew wide, but not wide enough. He wasn’t shocked. Almost like he had expected it. The Doctor took a step towards you, and away from the console. “You want to see Missy?” He chuckled, half-heatedly. “Am I going crazy? Because it seems to me I’m hearing things.”
“No…you aren’t.” You let out a sigh. “I want to see Missy, Doctor. Visit her in the vault. Talk to her. She’s alone. So alone.”
“Yes, and for a good reason.” The Doctor stated. “Missy is secluded to prevent her from causing anyone harm.” The Doctor shakes his head. “She’s dangerous, Y/N. You out of anyone should know that. She can’t be trusted.”
“She can change.” You remarked to that. Because you did believe that she was capable of change. Capable of becoming a better person. No matter what anyone, even The Doctor thought. And you? You were probably one of the only people in the whole universe that Missy cared for her. That Missy trusted. You wouldn’t give up on her so easily. Not when there was still hope.
The Doctor scoffed. “You think she’s capable of change?”
“Doctor-“ You swallowed. “Please. Please. Just let me have five minutes. That’s all I ask. Five minutes to talk to her…”
The Doctor looked to you. He let out a sigh. He knew there was a chance he wouldn’t win this argument. You wouldn’t give up until he said yes. As much as he didn’t want to say yes, was it really worth all of the bickering?
“Five minutes?” The Doctor quizzed.
You nodded your head. Five minutes was you had needed. You would want more time, but you thought it was best not to push your luck. “Fives minutes. I swear, I won’t be a minute late.” You promised.
The Doctor met your gaze. And he could see the sincerity in your eyes. You meant it.
He let out a breath. “Fine fine. I’ll take you to the university to see Missy. But this is under my terms. I stay outside of the vault the entire time.” The Doctor went over to the console and began to pressing the controls. “Five minutes, yes?” He looked to you, his expression hardened. “And I want you to be careful. Understand?”
You gave a faint smile and nod. “I understand.”

lucky to find a family to take her long - term , unlucky to find that family weren't kind . mother was absent , distant . father was controlling , condescending . brother was mean , violent . she suffered through , grateful for food and clothing . it was her school librarian that realised her untidy hair , unwashed clothes . she started to tend for jane , look after her , brush her hair and straighten her uniform . but she had no space in her life to care for her full - time .
at the age of fifteen , she got her first boyfriend . he was in the year above , and he was kind . he showed her off and made her feel special . he didn't show his harshness until two years later when they'd already moved in together , talking about marriage and children . engaged to a vicious creature by eighteen , having escaped one horrid home to find herself in another .
wicked fight and they're in a car , fiancé driving far too quickly . road was wet , rain hammering down . hand hits wheel and it spins , car barrelling down a hill . she's lucky she survived , so is her fiancé . but he faced most of the damage , hidden away in a hospital somewhere . his family don't like her visiting , his family blame her for it all . but she doesn't mind .
. . . now she's free .
