do you think people need to be at least naturally good at something to ever become great at it or to ever create something of worth. like even if they work hard at it forever they just cant do it
Tumblr media
here's some doodles of jade before i answer this question. uh, no. this is a shitty way to think! i mean, sure people can be naturally good at things and it gives you a leg up, but thinking you can't achieve something because you weren't born perfectly good at it is not a good mindset.
i mentioned how i am a practicing cardist, but i have quite small hands. now, if you don't know, that's like a huge genetic disadvantage when it comes to cardistry, cause i have a lot of struggles performing one hand shuffles like the thumb cut or the revolution cut. basic moves that i just struggle so hard to execute. but, and if you're in the cardistry space you'd know that people are very heavy on the fact that you can overcome the issue with practice and determination.
unless you're being judged competitively at magic olympics, cardistry and magic isn't all about how "correct" you execute a trick, it's about the performance! so if you can find workarounds, and there are always gonna be some workarounds, then you can totally shit out a decent trick! magic is a spectacle, the value comes in how you present it, and the attitude you have presenting it. you don't have to be on houdini's level, sometimes just being a shitty ladbible skit is honestly good enough. there's a beauty to being crap at things as much as there is being good at things. or being just decently good. and it's similar to comedy in a way too.
there are so many people in this world that will hate you or love you no matter how good or bad you are at something. as long as you have the can-do attitude, you can do whatever you want. i saw this image earlier about progress, and how progress is different for everybody. you can have slow progress, quick progress, or it can vary from slow to quick. and the rate at which you progress can also be different for everybody or different things you try to learn. but it can never halt completely unless you give up in yourself.
so, don't! when i was growing up, i saw this one video of a girl three years younger than me painting beautiful intricate anatomically correct portraits of jesus from age 3 and i looked at my shitty undertale art and thought "holy shit i'm fucking ass" but did that ever stop me from drawing? no! and honestly, i have not improved much since! but i love to draw, and even though my friends are better and much faster than it than me, i still love to do it!
anyways, thanks for the ask, even if it might be a spam ask cause i've been getting those quite a lot.

NOT MY ART! Click to see them all bigger, of course.
Here's a weird one in the merch department! Gravity Falls playing cards! But of completely mysterious origin!
After someone on reddit posting about getting these, I went to Amazon and looked them up. Listing didn't show the entire deck, but they were $10 when I bought them, so what the heck. That was like a week ago, and they're already showing as sold out on Amazon.
"Dennis Store" is simply the seller on Amazon. Someone in this thread on the United Cardists forum said they'd seen them sold under other brands on Amazon, but the likelihood is that the brand/company is Haakun. That name is on a lot of other similar playing card decks based on well-known TV and video game properties -- seen here on Amazon, and seen in that forum thread linked above (everything from Super Mario and Steven Universe to Jurassic World, and Friends, as well as several Disney properties like Princess and the Frog). But no name, and certainly no copyright info, appears anywhere on this set -- not on any card, and not anywhere on the box. Nor is there any indication of who the artist is. As one person in the forum thread above said, "these feel just a few cease-and-desist letters away from oblivion".
The art itself, as you can see, is pretty good. In a lot of cases it's taken directly from some recognizable still frames of the show, but in other cases it's clearly somewhat adapted (Tyler Cutebiker for example).
The selection of characters is, frankly, strange. No Ford, Soos, or Wendy; or Fiddleford. But... Toby Determined, Lazy Susan, Tyler Cutebiker? Robbie? Sheriff Blubs TWICE??? WHY? It's just so random. (I could understand a deck centered around the Cipher Wheel characters, but this very much is not.)
So, there you have it. It's currently showing as sold out on Amazon, but it might come back in stock; or maybe it can be found elsewhere, on eBay or something.
(Again, just to be clear: NOT MY ART.)

Modern!Human!AU in which Kol Mikaelson and my OC Sharon Salvatore were both born in Mystic Falls in present days, and knew each other since their childhood (via Rebekah who loved to hang out with the weirdest girl at their kindergarten), and gradually fell in love. Sharon is a fencing club champion (whenever she's not too weak from her illnesses and surgeries), debate team member and future lawyer, and perhaps will run for senator many years later. Kol is a cardist, theatre kid, chemistry class disaster, future showman magician and magic/esoteric shop owner.
Aka the only happy fluffy AU of those two

🔮💅!
thank you for the ask!
💅 How does their nails look like? Are they long or short? Is there a different length for either fingernails or toenails? Are there sensory issues involved with taking care of their nails? Are they painted or not? Do they have acrylic or gel nails?
i'm a big black painted nails scara truther... 🙏
i imagine panda does her nails occasionally, but she wears gloves so often for her job that she has to keep them short. knight would offer to paint her toenails for her, maybe even for mitter too, if robots do that
sensou definitely picks at her nails a lot, along with the skin around her nails. maybe even bites her nails. i doubt she'd find painted nails very appealing but im sure war would. maybe he wears fake nails like me!!1!1!1
🔮 Have they ever wanted to know what the future would bring for them? Do they believe in fortune-telling? Have they ever read their own future, or went to get it read? Would their future be bright or bleak? What type of fortune-telling appeals to them the most?
i think everyone's curious about what the future brings for them, really. it's hard not to be. i'm the most anxious for the future out of my sibling trio considering my succession of father and all. i don't believe in fortune telling but that doesn't stop me from picking up the fortune slips at the grand narukami shrine whenever i'm there >w• i hope my future isn't bleak, but... i can't say i have all the hope in the world for that. as for what type would appeal to me the most... probably tarot cards, since i'm a cardist already! 🪄✨

So, I just decided to list the jobs me and my friend once assigned all tvd characters with:
Damon – considering Salvatore's family wealth, he can be a casino owner or smth (if he has no access to family money, then either bartender or stripper)
Stefan – vet is a nice idea but I'm kinda afraid to let him near animals after his special diet... Dunno, he seemed pretty happy with being a car mechanic, maybe that's it. Perhaps he could be a race car driver. As an alternative, he can be a journalist, or writer, or literary critic
Caroline – she said in s1 she dreamed of being a reporter and she became one in s7. Wedding planner is also very suitable for her tho <3
Bonnie – hands down, totally can be a model, even tho me and my friend thought she can be occult studies professor like her Grams was
Tyler – he was a bank trader in s7 or s8, I think?
Jeremy – a comic artist
Enzo – a chief in Italian restraunt
Kai – comedian/blogger
Katherine – an actress (she's good at pretending, so why not?)
Klaus – an artist
Elijah – a lawyer 100%
Rebekah – a fashion designer
Kol – in my opinion, he could be a cardist and a showman (kinda Apollo Robbins-style), and/or a keeper of a magical shop (partially for tricks, partially for esoteric goods)
Marcel – some famous club owner or singer (or both)
Cami – psychologist but your idea of her owning bakery is soooo alluring and cute
Hayley – your idea with her being interviewer is also pretty nice, she would sass people so much (might be that's how she met Klaus/Elijah)
Freya – yoga instructor
Finn – never thought of this, but version of archaeologist seems suitable
Vincent – antropologist
I think I'm forgeting someone... Anyway, that's all, sorry for the rant 😅
I'm kinda bored and curious, and this also will help with my tvd!fame dr, so I'll ask:
What kind of jobs would the Mystic Falls have? Elena is a famous doctor in my dr, I made Damon serve bourbon because idc about him and I feel that Caroline could be a wedding planner but I'm not sure about her. Ideas? Tyler plays in the NBA and I feel Bonnie could be a model, like Rebekah

That was a LOT of words that Jonas's brain was tossing around trying to sort out so he sort of gave Thursday a bewildered stare and nodded as she spoke. He...kind of got what she was saying? At least the kindness definitely was getting through and he well...he appreciated that . His first instinct however was to quickly pretend he actually hadn't been having an emotional breakdown five seconds ago and so that's what he did, pasting on a big fake smile and shrugging his shoulder like he'd just missed his bus.
" Pfff ah yeah sure wellllll! I mean bars work just as great, right? " he joked. " Anyways...You uh here doing the tourist thing in Vegas? Enjoying yourself I hope. Sorry I haven't introduced myself! "
Flick! He produced a card between his fingers and presented it to Thursday. " My card, eheh. Jonas Copperhart, cardist extraordinaire and occasionally I even do magic. I'm over at the Four Queens casino every night. Can't miss me, right across from the buffet table, third alcove. How you liking Vegas so far? "
( @foxedthecards - Continued from here!)
Thursday swears she isn't always looking for trouble - not that the person she finds standing there clearly crying despite his oncoming protests trouble, per se - but she somehow always manages to find it. Or happen upon it. Or it finds her. Or it happens upon her. One of these things.
Whichever. She and this troublesome thing-
Wait, no, that doesn't sound right either. He's not some troublesome thing. That's awfully impolite, isn't it? How could he possibly be some troublesome thing if he's just standing there, looking at his phone, and crying? Maybe he's just crying about some really cute baby animals or something? Or someone just died? And should any of that be troublesome to Thursday?
She should just mind her own business. Minding her own business would be the best idea in this situation. This guy doesn't need her, a stranger, coming up to him and asking him stupid questions like, "ArE yOu OkAy?", when he's probably just discovered he's lost a bunch of money to some online scam or something. She should just keep onnnnnnn moving.
Except.
She doesn't.
Because Thursday is not like that.
Especially when she believes someone is upset.
And so, she does the very Thursdayest thing a Thursday can do. She stops nearby this crying person, leans over into his field of vision, and quite blatantly asks him if he's okay.
And when he gives her the very obvious answer any person would give a total stranger, she smiles brightly. "Okay! I'm sorry if that was rude of me to ask, by the way, but it's just that I was walking by and thought you looked really upset and wanted to make sure. I didn't mean to pry or anything. I mean, I hope I'm not prying, we're total strangers from each other and you don't have to tell me anything, but if you're feeling unsafe or anything, just know that you aren't alone, and whatever it is that's happening, some day, at some point in the indistinct future, it's going to be okay. The universe has a way of working these things out. And if you happen to be of some kind of religious affiliation then, ah, I'm sure that whichever deity you worship will work it out for you, yeah?"
As she says the last of her pep talk, Thursday gives Jonas a big ol' thumbs up for good measure.
