You'd written about theatre a bit. Theatre, at it's core, is creating a different reality. People in theatre tend to believe that theatres don't really belong to them. Theatres are generally considered to be otherwise inhabited. There's a lot of rules regarding luck, respect for the unseen, caution. Sets are never made in a way you could think you're trapped. If a costumer bleeds on a costume it's good luck & should not be cleaned. The presence of Fae would be expected & accounted for.

I knew I could count on you all for good suggestions *hugs all of you* :D Replies below the cut for length.
(My own wedding did not have a bachelor(ette) party or flower girls. I did not even wear a dress ;)
That sounds like a lovely, low-stress kind of wedding :D
syzara replied to your post “Okay, friends! I am officially looking for input! So, my best friend...”
Locked rooms are apparently fun, according to mr tigs. Make sure those are accessible though! /also fun ideas all over your replies ;)
Oh, accessibility was my first question when I was looking into it. My main concern there is that a) a few people might be bored by it and b) one or two people might have an issue with being locked in somewhere. I think it would be a lot of fun, and I think my friend would enjoy it too, but it might be a little too niche to apply to everyone’s interests :/
midna2123 replied to your post “Okay, friends! I am officially looking for input! So, my best friend...”
You could try something like a theme night? Like whatever her favorite shows or games are and try to do like themed drinks, food, party games, etc? I'm not much of a party person myself and would much rather just hold a video game party than go out anywhere but that's just me haha
@pagerunner suggested over chat a Princess Bride theme, and YESSSS. And that story is established enough that I’m sure I could find plenty of food, drinks, decorations, games, etc. to fit! I’m sure my friend would prefer something low key as well, and video games would be fun, but she unfortunately has issues with motion sickness that things like video games and movies that use shaky cam tend to irritate :/ Board and card games are more her speed :)
continuousspec replied to your post “Okay, friends! I am officially looking for input! So, my best friend...”
You're idea sounds fun! If she likes board games, maybe a few hours at a game house? I know the one in my town also has CAH nights so you could work CAH with that.
There are a couple of gaming bars not far from where she lives that host board and card games! They’re “bars” because they serve alcohol, but they’re nothing like what you tend to think of a traditional bar. She might be cool with that!
bloomingcnidarians replied to your post “Okay, friends! I am officially looking for input! So, my best friend...”
I've been to real low-key ones (manicures and dinner at chili's) and really intense ones (bar hopping). My favorite was my own, where we went to a swanky hipster restaurant and had fancy cocktails and alligator mac & cheese and then went to a friend's house and chilled around their outdoor fire pit.
I was kind of thinking along the lines of manicures too! And yours sounds like a lot of fun! (That alligator mac and cheese sounds yummy!)
thisonelikesaliens replied to your post “Okay, friends! I am officially looking for input! So, my best friend...”
But yeah the CAH thing sounds hella fun
thisonelikesaliens replied to your post “Okay, friends! I am officially looking for input! So, my best friend...”
The only wedding party I was in we actually went to Vegas for a Bachelorett weekend. Nothing over the top, just chilling, eating, and watched a show. It's really all about doing something together that everyone enjoys and it doesn't necessarily have to involve penises.
Vegas would probably (definitely) be outside the budget for most of the people who would go, but a night/weekend of chilling and enjoying each other sounds like a lot of fun :D
pagerunner replied to your post “Okay, friends! I am officially looking for input! So, my best friend...”
hmmm, what should I do with my penis cupcake pan...OOH CHOCOLATES
OR BROWNIES! She likes those as long as they’re fudgy enough :D
cardboardnymph replied to your post “Okay, friends! I am officially looking for input! So, my best friend...”
Servant of Clio's right, it's a thing. Also, free. http://cadsaboutmatrimony.com/product/cads-about-matrimony/ Fandom? You could print out some ME & DA naked people? For...any reason, really. Fruit tarts are amazing & can be made vegan. There are dick lipsticks you can order online, decent colors. I got a second set free because half the first set were...soft. Some dick candies are good. The people at your local sex shop know which ones. Feather boas are always fun.
Oh this is a fantastic link, thank you :D She’s not really a fandom type, but she dabbles in Mass Effect, Legend of Zelda, BtVS, SPN, etc. pagerunner suggested Princess Bride, and I think that would be a good fit for her. I hadn’t thought about hitting up local sex shops for ideas, but that’s good advice! I don’t think my friend would be particularly partial to dick accessories, but I think she’ll accept that enough people will expect them (at least as joke items) that she wouldn’t object. And she did give me a bright pink feather boa for my bachelorette party and then make me go out in public like that, so this could be my chance for a little payback :P
servantofclio replied to your post “Okay, friends! I am officially looking for input! So, my best friend...”
My bachelorette party was basically me and my friends holed up in a hotel room taking Cosmopolitan quizzes and mocking them. Hm. If no cake, what food does she really like? Have that. Maybe fun non-alcoholic drinks? There must be some recipes for cool mocktails out there. CAH, maybe with some extra wedding-related cards, could actually be pretty fun?
Your bachelorette party sounds very similar to our Friday nights when we lived together back in college (i.e., like a very good time) :P I’ll have lots of cookies and brownies available, for sure :P (I plan to arrange a special giant cookie for her wedding so she can eat something she enjoys that day too.) I like the idea of looking for mocktails related to Princess Bride, which I’m sure Pinterest will help me find. I hadn’t considered CAH having wedding-themed cards, but of course they do. She’ll love that!
shadoedseptmbr replied to your post “Okay, friends! I am officially looking for input! So, my best friend...”
The only one i planned was a tea party for a very religious girl. I think the naughtiest thing we had was a candle that melted down from base to base (first kiss etc)
A tea party actually sounds like fun, but I’m not sure it would be a good fit for my friend. Event planning is hard! But I’m happy I got so many good ideas to consider :D

cardboardnymph replied to your post: Seconding that comment about a definite interest...
I kinda dislike how *everything* has conflict. As a kid I watched shows that were “person makes a sandwich” “person says hi to neighbors.” Very relaxing.
It is interesting to me that in a lot of my favorite books as a child/adolescent... well, they mostly had conflict of some kind, but the part of the books that I remember aren’t about the conflict. Like, Robin McKinley’s Beauty had a conflict, albeit a very quiet one, but all the scenes I remember best are like, reading books and making tea. The most memorable bits of the Redwall books to me were usually the feasts, not the battles with rats and weasels. And Wise Child was one of my favorite, favorite books... but I often wanted to stop at about the halfway point, when we were still at ‘Juniper teaches Wise Child how to gather herbs, and weave, and sing, and make cheese’ territory and before the plot kicked into gear.

Oh yeah, I saw that one, too! No. Just no.
I think it bothered me less in some ways because I already assumed I was missing stuff in that section.

Fun Hippo birthday fact. I was due on August 17th. My mom was thrilled I was born early, because it meant she could go back to work that much more quickly. She was a high school English teacher at the time. My sister, was due May 26th and was 5 days late, which meant my mom could teach that much longer. She's always appreciated that we adhered to her teaching schedule.
Thank you all for the good wishes! <3

Clio omitted "prank calling Lost's bachelor party" from her list of activities. (Interrupting our Bachelor Party: The Roleplaying Game session.)
I have so many questions! What was the prank call? Did she/her group pretend to be someone else? Were you fooled (even temporarily)? What is the Bachelor Party: The Roleplaying Game? Were you winning or losing? How does one win such a game? On a scale of 1-10, how meta is it to roleplay a bachelor party at a real-life bachelor party?
I mean, she did say that marriages are founded on stories and this sounds like one so *pops popcorn*
cardboardnymph replied to your post “I knew I could count on you all for good suggestions *hugs all of you*...”
I'm pretty sure the dick accessories exist solely to troll the bride?? I'm unclear, but the only bachelorette party I've been to I helped plan & people seemed to like the dicks I brought & laughed & took photos with the accessories & then never posted them anywhere. I did kind of *feel* like a dick for bringing them instead of normal party favors like nail polish.
In general, I would agree that dick accessories exist solely to troll the bride, but I have in mind a friend whose bachelorette party I went to last year (or, half of it anyway, since I excused myself from the bar hopping part of it), and she was ALL ABOUT THE DICKS. You might think a dick straw is a joke party favor, but she wouldn’t touch her margarita until she had one. I love her so much :P

Replies to the Great Thumb Tragedy of 2017 below the cut :P
Ouch. I swear slicing the thumb hurts worse than other fingers somehow?
I sliced another finger a couple years ago and it hurt like a bear. I had to get Percocet to finally take the edge off. But because my finger was in a splint for a couple days to protect it, I kept banging it on things and making it hurt all over again. Pro tip: Don’t try to catch dishes that are falling. Just let ‘em fall and break and get new ones and avoid an ER visit.

servantofclio replied to your post: cardboardnymph replied to your post: ...
I thrived on the Anne of Green Gables books, which tended to be slices-of-life with conflicts no more severe than “will Anne raise enough funds to paint the school this chapter?”
OH GOSH, yes. I actually read Anne of Green Gables about once a year from ages eight to eighteen (I wrote my college admissions essay about that, actually, and only once I got to college realized that most people had written theirs about, like, their volunteer work or their travel experiences or etc. actual Important Life Stuff, and not about a childhood book they really liked and their changing perspective on it over the years, so that was sort of embarrassing--but I still got the scholarship so whatever).
And I was the kind of kid who would have unironically named things like the Lake of Shining Waters. And, come to think of it, I was the kind of kid who had passionate friendships (hi Diana!) and equally longstanding grudges (hi Gilbert!). So to say I identified is an understatement.
But also, with the longing for puffed sleeve dresses and the luscious descriptions of country farm food, it is just precisely up my alley.
(I have also always wanted raspberry cordial. The real kind, I mean, not the medicinal brandy.)

Have you heard about the new Anne of Green Gables TV series? It’s being released on Netflix next month. I can’t wait to see it.
I have! I am so excited! (And I confess that I am especially excited that their Anne is kind of awkward looking--not ugly by any stretch, but with big ears and knobbly knees--because in the books Anne was kind of awkward-looking especially at first, and partly a late bloomer but also partly the kind of person whose personality makes them beautiful.)

cardboardnymph replied to your post:What does Madame Badger think about Cassandra's...
She wears such tight pants that extra fabric could get awkwardly stuck. She presumably has seaming that lays flat & could also have a gusset at the crotch. She is probably used to having her clothes tailored & could have “eliminated redundancies.”
I sort of like the idea that her pants are so tight that attempting to wear underpants gives her an instant mega-wedgie. And that she’s committed enough to having a fabulous ass and legs (well, a visibly fabulous ass, it’s fabulous regardless of whether her pants are tight) that she just shrugs and skips the underwear.
Filed under: things that Cassandra Pentaghast will never, ever admit to anyone.

If I don't win, maybe you could share where you got it? I think some of the kids I see for therapy would like it, they're bored of mandalas right now. Thank you!
Sure! I picked it up at Amazon (here), but most major bookstores seem to have it or very similar books. Search for Richard Merritt, Hannah Davies, or Cindy Wilde. There’s a whole series: Art Therapy Coloring Book, Creative Therapy Coloring Book, Color Therapy Coloring Book....
While I’m plugging coloring books: I love MCA Hogarth’s Not in Need of Rescue (fantasy women in active roles, multiple ages and ethnicities, wearing sensible clothes--no chainmail bikinis here), and Not in Need of Quests (fantasy men who are not warriors--scribes, mages, scholars, fathers, etc.--and again, multiple ages and ethnicities).
