Juno is important. according to AJHQ on their insta, Juno is NOT an alpha but an ancient hero, which is interesting, because if Juno isn't an alpha, then canonically the arctic wolves has no alpha. for my AU, i've been considering reviving Juno, not because of author's bias, but because narratively, Juno is THE protector of Balloosh, the newest land added to the game. and I don't want to create an Arctic wolf alpha bc

A: shamans can't create anymore shamans after the phantoms (which i'm changing a bit)

B: that's boring

C: the implications of bringing someone from the past back to the present is somewhat horrifying

but yeah, Juno is OLDER than the shamans, and in my au I said "nuh-uh" because I couldn't think of a way of Juno being older that fits the timeline. correction, I just didn't like it.

in the game, they have two major connections to presumably (100%) dead alphas; Star and Fang, the direwolf and sabertooth alphas respectively. Fang is unimportant, and Star is mildly more important than Fang.

Now, while Balloosh really shines in the Juno Era to the Hexagram Era, it existed as far back as the Culture Era, if we're talking about it being established. the land Balloosh was established on most likely existed in the early history eras.

but anyway, to make sense of Peck, Greely, Gilbert, Liza, Graham, and Cosmo being the original six shamans, Star and Fang will no longer be shamans. they'll be important figures, like pack leaders (did sabertooths and direwolves form packs??), but not shamans. Juno doesn't exist here.

Star and Fang are older than the six in terms of age, just to establish that. Juno is younger in age. So how does Juno come to exist?

they're a gift from Mira. prior to this, Star and Fang joined their packs together and wandered just like that, a massive culmination of canine and feline. this most likely takes place in the Dominion Era, so collaboration between different species was unheard of. Star, Fang, and their pack was shunned, pushed to the far marshlands, but Mira had a sort of respect for it. so she gifted them Juno in the form of a feather.

this is also why Juno is nonbinary. they weren't created with a gender. (also they didn't feel entirely comfortable with gendered pronouns later in life)

these marshlands would also later become Balloosh, founded by Star, Fang, and Juno.

but anyway, Star carries around the feather with a piece of twine, treating it as the second coming of God, whilst Fang leads the pack with one of the leaders fixated on a feather. Fang found it redundant, and he always scolded Star for it, but Star herself did not care about what he had to say. Mira respected them. Respected them! if it wasn't obvious, this is from Star's point of view. to Fang, he acknowledged the feather as a gift, but felt that Mira's attention was fleeting. ultimately, in some way, shape, or form, he wasn't entirely wrong.

one day, during the Settlement Era, the feather glowed as bright as the sun, and soon it grew legs, and fur, and ears, and oh god it's a pup now. this pup was baby Juno, the arctic wolf born from a feather. Star and Fang became parents, almost. they were both a bit feral for Juno more tame demeanor, but they loved Star and Fang nonetheless.

If spooky challenges are particularly your jam, we’d love to see what you do with ours when you’ve got the whole year to tackle it!

entries—Your fanwork is NOT required to use the prompt exactly as it appears on this list. Prompts need only inspire your fanwork, whether they appear word for word in it or not. However the prompt inspires you is correct, as far as we’re concerned. Subvert the prompt, reverse the prompt, marry the prompt—it’s up to you.

All forms of fannish works are accepted and encouraged for this event! Fanfic, fanart, poetry, podfics, fanvids, playlists, fiber and other crafts, fan edits, moodboards, etc.

Thylacine

Bio: The thylacine was a carnivorous marsupial native to the island of Tasmania that went extinct in the 20th century. It was a nocturnal hunter of wallabies and birds, around the size of a fox, and had one hell of a jaw with a deceptively weak bite. Thylacines were the only member of their family to survive to modern times- eventually driven from mainland Australia by competition with dingoes and hunted to the brink of extinction by shepherds in Tasmania. The last living thylacine died in captivity in 1936. Since their extinction, there have been hundreds of reported thylacine sightings, but none of them have been conclusive.

Propaganda: theyre really cool to look at and their story makes me sad :( sweet thylacine you deserved so much better.

Eurypterid

Bio: Also known as sea scorpions, eurypterids were fantastic little arthropods from the Ordovician. The biggest among them got to over 8 feet in length, making them the largest arthropods to ever live- the article I'm getting my information from says that most eurypterids could be cradled in your arms, which is so beautiful. They reigned for a good 400 million years, going extinct at the end of the Permian era. The humble eurypterid is also the state fossil of New York!

Their card is The Hanged Man, they're based on thylacines, black shucks and the headless horseman AND it can glow! It's also pretty tall, as in almost twice the height of the Fool... but they're chill!

Technically yes, though not with the technology you describe. Fun fact: there's even a subculture of people who use the portable TV device as a telephone too. Nerds, am I right?

Has disco made a comeback?

Let's be honest: disco never died. It's just hiding in the Netherrealm of popular music, waiting to strike. I suppose there have been a few close calls where it almost got us, but we fended it off by bringing back the 80s and 90s. We have locked our doors and shut our windows. We have hidden our children. There is nothing left to do but arm ourselves and pray. Disco will come for us all.

Are hoverboards commonplace?

No, but mostly for the beauracratic reasons. We actually have the technology to make and mass produce them, but then the government would want everyone and their brother to get a poilet license and follow city airspace ordinance. Too much hassle, so we leave flying to the ghosts and use something similar to skateboards powered by electricity.

Have extinct animals such as the thylacine been cloned back into existence?

Please don't give the rich people ideas. Our generation has worked so hard to keep them from going crazy and buying social media, if they decided to start jurassic world, idk what I'd do. All that said....there is cloning, but the details are mostly kept from general public knowledge.

People I'd Like to Get to Know Better Game

Last Song/Album: "Karma" from Taylor Swift LOL yes I'm processing some things.

Favorite color: Pumpkin Orange for 9 months out of the year, a nice pale Pink for the remaining 3.

Sweet, spicy or savory: Terribly terribly hard question. I love all food...but I do have a terrible sweet tooth. A nice sweet spicy is what makes me happiest. I make a soy/honey gochujang hot sauce that I keep in my fridge and put on EVERYTHING.

Last TV show: Rewatching Game Changer episodes on the DropOut network (highly highly reccomend)

Last film: Annabelle: Creation. My littlest brother asked me to introduce him to some horror movies so we're going through all the classics and big hits. :')

Last thing I looked up online: Thylacine wikipedia page. At night to help me sleep I play a game I call "Wikihole" where I pick a topic I want to know more about, read the Wiki page, then pick a link on that page to take me to the next topic. On and on until I get bored or reach a page with no good routes after that. Yes I am completely normal there's nothing weird about this at all what are you talking about.

Relationship status: Single and looking to stay that way.

Current obsession: Twisted Wonderland. I had a hard time getting into it but once I had a few high leveled cards (and high leveled friends LOL) and could get into the story and events I really fell for it. It's so well written and the game design is very fun, especially for a mobile game. And every single character is so charming and has so much depth. I love them...

Okay so while I'm working on the first page of Changes (I need water for the paints), I went ahead and sketched out some of the plush plans I have for both this Autumn (Moppet Stitch) and Next Year (The Eeveelutions Series :3). Now with Moppet Stitch, I've always enjoyed Monster High since I'm really huge on horror and I love monsters. Downside, a lot of the crafts involving them are pretty much not safe where I live (I got no ventilation space and I risk harming the Boxers if I were to try.) So my solution, sew a fan character for Monster High based on haunted toys and of course my favorite, the extinct Thylacine! Moppet will be saved for the Halloween season since she has the right colorations for it and because Halloween is the best season ever.

Moving on, as my cool down between chapters, I'll be doing the Eeveelutions as plush dolls next year starting with the ever horrific looking Tailypo the Umbreon. The main pattern for the eight eeveelutions will be the Cabbit Golem pattern since it looks and functions pretty well. The only one that won't be getting that will be our Eevee, Wishbone. Due to the limited space, I will only be able to keep Maibaum and one other, so the others will first be offered up to close friends as gifts before being allowed for trade with the left overs Eeveelutions. I'm seriously considering keeping Momiji as that one is an autumn themed little one, but I wanna see how the others turn out first before considering Momiji as my number two for Maibaum. I'll be doing colored card pieces soon too for a better reference that'll come along with them once the series is completed and homes have been sorted out.

Oooh I love this one... I feel like I don't draw enough for this to be Really applicable to my art portfolio as it stands right now BUT if we can include writing and my mind palace under "art" then I have a ton! Most of them are character-based n you know my characters soooo... Angie and the Sun, burning fields, playing cards. Lune and the Moon, monarch butterflies, La Llorona. Jo has a very strong dog motif that contrasts with the animal motifs of other people in her life, particularly Eleanor's cat motif, and Jo's mother's/family's bird/chicken motif in a "fox in a henhouse" sort of way (or thylacine posed with an already-dead chicken sort of way). I also have ideas for some pretty strong whalefall images with her bc hey girl. fish. Venus is, well, Venus, as in Aphrodite, and I like depicting him in famous works that depict Venus/Aphrodite, especially washing his long hair. Status: Extinct since 1936 :(

Height (at shoulders): 20-27 in. (51-69 cm)

Length: 39-51 in. (99-130 cm)

Weight: 35-65 lb (16-29 kg)

Lifespan: 5-7 years in the wild, 8-11 years in captivity

Origin: Australian mainland, New Guinea, and Tasmania

Behavior: Hunted alone or with a partner, mostly nocturnal, and mostly quiet but made yapping noises when hunting

The last living thylacine died in captivity in 1936. Since their extinction, there have been hundreds of reported thylacine sightings, but none of them have been conclusive.

Anomalocaris

Bio: Anomalocaris were the greatest thing to happen to the Cambrian period. These funky little bastards had a body structure so unconventional it defied classification for years. They were apex predators of the Cambrian ocean, and one of the key species in defining the predator-prey relationships we recognize today. Giant compound eyes for visual hunting, huge grasping tendrils out front, and a segmented body- what’s not to love?

Tasmanian Tiger is the harbinger of change, the ‘silent one’, the carrier of the deep messages we need to hear.

The Rune symbol for Tasmanian Tiger is ‘Othila’ which strengthens family or group connections. This Rune whispers that this is a time of separating paths. A peeling away is called for, a letting go of the old, a time for retreat. A time for a separation is called for that will free you to become more truly who you are in essence. This is an illusion rune. To receive one only needs to let go and give. Maybe you are being called on to give up your attachments so you can become who you truly are. This is a time for ‘Self’, a time for going within.

I found this fascinating read about thylacines AND Nordic runes, I’ve been reading the The Poetic Edda more and this definitely is a food for thought.

Okay for the altar that we're going to make, we're thinking of

A shelf, specifically those corner shelves. We would probably put it in our bedroom? If not, we'll find a small cabinet thingy.

My Tarot cards + books on magic and such. Will possibly get those from the local bookstores? Representing our more spiritual beliefs.

Statues of wolves/ thylacines. Possibly even get a faux thylacine skull

Angel pictures, especially seraphim. Wings and faux feathers would also work.

Worldless things? Specifically pictures and such. Maybe some space themed stuff too?

Gems! Also jewellery. Maybe some rocks and other natural items too?

Finally, a scented candle.

We will start this after exams, so maybe in June.
