the stone marten sounds like a completely fictional problem
like when other hemerophiles become pests, the damage they do is completely understandable. what does a wild animal want? food, shelter, a safe place to raise its young. simple, right? a raccoon moves into your attic because it's dry and warm, and he leaves feces and remains of prey because he's a raccoon and doesn't know that's not appropriate roommate behavior. obviously blackbirds steal your cherries and voles eat your veggies! they're hungry little guys! you would do this too if you were a blackbird or a vole.
the stone marten, though, will wreck your car. for no apparent reason. he's not living there and he doesn't want to eat the rubber from your brake line. he just fucks up your engine for the lolz. and he's sneaky about it, too! the damage will often not become apparent until it's catastrophic. until very suddenly your converter is fucked, your transmission hands in notice, or your brakes fail in the middle of a busy intersection.
somehow, over millions of years, nature evolved this animal who's body size, behaviour, and territorial aggression all work together in the precise way that makes him very effective at sabotaging one of the biggest pollutants in modern society.
it's so normalized we never stop to think how ridiculous it is to have your car destroyed by a cute little mustelid who doesn't understand mechanics and just wants to tell his rival to get fucked. sounds like something a mediocre author would put in an allegory about environmentalism, and get marked in red by the editor with the note A little on the nose, don't you think.

"Need a Lift?"

Pairing: Spencer Agnew x gn!British!Reader
─ · · SUMMARY: It is your first time traveling to the USA, once there you are like a fish outta water but thankfully you run into Spencer who is more than willing to help you!
─ · · TAGS: gender-neutral pronouns, meet-cute, fluff, cute, probably stereotypical british things.

─────── · ·
It was your first time traveling to the USA. You were a 'creator on the rise' youtube told you and next thing you knew you were being placed on a pre-paid flight to creator-con with a fancy badge dangling from your neck.
You were completely out of your element and went into an immediate culture shock at the vast space there was between cities and states to blocks and buildings. Just the grand scale of it all and even the events hall itself held you floored as you were quite embarrassed to admit your mouth was quite literally hanging open.
You thought back to your three-story row house, two lane roads, and easily accessible public transit, everything only being a hop, skip, and a jump away. So when you were not thinking to set your timer earlier than you usually got up, you were rushing around your hotel room to get ready and get your ass over to your meet-and-greet on time.
Choosing random clothes out of your suitcase while cursing the living heavens our of yourself and your door that failed multiple times to lock, you were stumbling into the elevator with your shoes half on and your sweater askew, non-the-obvious to the other inhabitant of the elevator.
"What floor are you headed two?" a male voice piped up as you whipped your head around, catching your appearance in the mirrored interior and giving yourself a wince. "Oh-ah, the street floor please?" your quickly answer, giving the man a quick once over and the politest smile your can muster before fixing your appearance and feeling around in your pockets for your badge.
"I think what you're looking for is in your back pocket," he comments, giving you a awkward smile back. "Cheers, thanks," you answer back, reaching around and pulling it over your head with a sigh of relief before realizing he is wearing a matching one.
"You going to this event too?" You ask, waving around your badge to his nod. "Yeah, I'm actually doing a panel in 15 minutes. I didn't think I would sleep in so much, it was not that far of a drive for me..." his sentence ends with stressed laughter that you join.
"So you're from around here?" you now take a longer look at the man before the elevator door opens and he lets you go out first before you both walk in tow to the front of the lobby and out to the car-loop.
"Yeah, I work about three hours away from here on a good day. By the accent, it sounds you're visiting outta town I assume?"
"Mhmm, first time in the United States actually and I never expected it to be this bloody hot in fall," you mutter once emerging out of the air conditioned space, throwing off all those layers you struggled to put on this morning.
The man laughs, his joyfulness reaching his eyes has your heart miss a beat as you take in the curls underneath his baseball cap, un noticing to the embroidered logo. "Yeah, the weather doesn't seem to change much around here, its either kinda hot or hella hot. Since we are heading the same way, would you 'need a lift?'" he teases your accent as you consider your answer.
"I would say that was one of the better interpretations, good on you. I don't think I would usually say this to someone I just met but sure, that would be lovely actually since I have no idea where I am going," it is now your time to anxiously laugh to receive a comforting smile.
"The passengers side should be unlocked, hop in," you get open the door and buckle yourself in. "I forgot to ask your name," you state, watching as he fixes a pair of sunglasses to his face before putting an arm around the back of your chair to back out of the parking lot.
You take notice of the tattoos stretching up his forearm and try and peer at the ones hidden near his shoulder with utmost intrigue. "Spencer Angew, yours?"
"(first/name) (last/name), pleasure to meet you."
"And you as well, so what events are you heading for?"
"Oh, I'm casted in an event also in... ten minutes now," you look down to check your phone and catching an onslaught of notifications coming from your social platforms. Not wanting to feel rude to the conversation, you cast away your work into your discarded jacket on your lap.
"Is it the old meets new panel?" Spencer asks, shifting gears as you pull out onto the highway. "Yeah," you confirm.
"I'm doing the same one, funny odds of that happening, huh?"
"Very much so but from our conversation so far, I'm happy to be doing it with you," you add, not looking to see his reaction and instead watch the vast sea of cars and signs around you.
"I'll have to say the same, I was quite nervous for this one since I would be the only member from the cast to be on it-"
Your head whips back over, your eyebrows raised in confusion. "Wait, you're on a cast? I thought this was a creators event?" You quickly open up your email to read over the documents you signed a few days ago in panic. You were not a professional actor, director, nor comedian. What the hell were they going to expect you to do on that stage?
"It is, the company I work for does skit comedy and we have a cast that preforms skits in between their outside work," Spencer explains, taking a look at the mirrors before looking at you. Now catching the logo atop his head, your eyes widen.
"Oh my god, thats so cool! Wait... do you work for Smosh? I used to love watching those dudes when I was a kid, didn't understand much of what they were referencing but they're still going at it?" you gush, arms now leaning over the console in excitement as Spencer tenses before relaxing.
"Yeah, I work for them..." Spencer trails off, listening to the GPS system to take the next right. Your brain short-circuits, forgetting that the roads where different. "That must be weird working with like the fathers of youtube?" you ask.
"It was at first but by the third year, it wears off and you just realize they are two dudes making videos, or well now running a business to make videos." And the next thing you knew you're both entering through the guest side-entrance and are being ushered on stage.
It is a roaring of claps and cheers as your eyes blink and your body freezes. Spencer places a hand on your upper back, giving you a look of concern. "You alright?" he has to shout in your ear as staff rush to fit your microphones and sound packs. "With a handsome lad like you sitting beside me, I have nothing to worry about," you tease to instil false confidence within yourself.
Spencer laughs, shaking his head at you, his cheeks warming as you cast him a wink, that series of events would be clipping to every social platform in the next hour and a new shipped was formed that morning.

If you think you have to hide it (example: alcohol, mace, knife, gun, other weapons/drinks/drugs) don't try to bring into the venue
If you think you have to hide it (example: alcohol, mace, knife, weapons) don't try to bring into the venue
If you think you have to hide it (example: alcohol, mace, knife, weapons) don't try to bring into the venue
If the venue staff catches something that you can't bring in and they ask you to take it back or throw it away, DO NOT FIGHT THEM. Officers will take the venue's side over the patron's side
One
CHECK THE WEBSITE!! Every venue has BAG POLICY, WEAPONS POLICY, etc on their website. If someone is renting the venue (Traveling Broadway), check the EVENT POLICY. Private Events do not allow guns or other weapons, even if the building does
Two
BAG POLICIES ALL OVER THE USA for most every venue ask for no bigger than 4" tall, 10" long, 3" deep. They also ask that your bags be clear. Bags bigger than that are always turned away, with the exception of medical and baby bags. They will all be checked
Three
UNLESS IT IS MEDICAL, food and drink that is not bought inside the venue will be turned away at the doors/gates
Four
"It's not on the website." IT'S ON THE DAMN WEBSITE
Five
LISTEN TO THE STAFF because they 100% know better than you
Six
IF YOU BLAME THE STAFF FOR YOUR FUCK UP BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T CHECK THE WEBSITE, then you deserve to have your car towed and your phone screen shattered. THEY ARE DOING THEIR JOB TO KEEP YOU SAFE
Seven
STAFF WILL BE NICE TO YOU IF YOU ARE NOCE TO THEM. One get exactly 2 shots to listen before the staff gets mean
Eight
STAFF HAVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE YOU ENTRY. If you don't listen, if you're arguing, if you're throwing a fit like a child, if you're drunk/high enough ti smell, then staff can and will deny entry
Nine
NO RE-ENTRY SIGNS ARE POSTED AT THE DOORS BEFORE YOU COME IN. If there are no signs, check with the staff
Ten
YOU WILL BE ESCORTED OUT IF YOU POSE A DANGER TO STAFF AND/OR PATRONS. If you cause a scene inside a venue, you will be warned. If you ignore the warning, you will be taken out of the venue and refused entry
Eleven
IF YOU FUCK UP AT ONE PLACE, OTHER VENUES WILL KNOW. They communicate with each other. If you harass an act or players, your picture will be taken and will go with the team/act and you WILL be denied entry and taken off the venue property. Whether you go willingly or in handcuffs is up to you
Twelve
STAFF WILL NOT TOUCH YOU UNLESS YOU TOUCH THEM FIRST. The exception being if you need to be escorted out. If you throw a punch, or if you push, you will be warned. If you don't back off, staff will fight back
Thirteen
EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMALS ARE NOT SERVICE ANIMALS! ESAs are not allowed in almost every venue. Your Service Animal (usually a dog or a miniature pony) must have a vest and/or paperwork to prove that it is a Service Animal. ESAs are not Service Animals

Helena Hind at MMFA:
A Fox News producer who went on a social media rant about a parking enforcement officer “who barely spoke a lick of English” also appears to have a history of posting extreme anti-abortion comments.  Connor Clegg is a current producer on Fox prime-time show The Ingraham Angle. Before joining Fox, Clegg —  according to what appears to be his LinkedIn profile — spent several years working alongside Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, working as Kirk’s social media manager, and then as a producer on his podcast, The Charlie Kirk Show. Clegg also appears to have served as a communication consultant on Kari Lake’s failed gubernatorial campaign in 2022.  Last week, Clegg apparently locked his X account after user PatriotTakes posted screenshots of a rant in which Clegg described a parking enforcement officer who attempted to tow his car as having “an accent and diction so thick and faulty it was nearing aboriginal levels.”  “How we got to the point where foreigners are given the privilege to enforce this nation’s ‘laws’ unto citizens is beyond me but I’ve had damn near enough of it,” Clegg lamented.
As of May 13, 2024, Clegg’s X account is still private.  However, a Wayback Machine capture from 2022 shows that Clegg posted several extreme anti-abortion tweets while he was a producer on The Charlie Kirk Show.
Connor Clegg, a producer for Fox "News" primetime show The Ingraham Angle, is under fire for making a nativist rant about a parking enforcement officer. Clegg has also trafficked in anti-abortion extremist commentary.

. In a interview he said that he gets a lot of girls i think if you get jealous early he would hold back from flirting with them and just be friendly instead and if one of the fans girls did get a bit handsy he would make it up to you ifykyk 😉
. He said that he drove a mustang once in the USA where he could i can image him taking a video of him doing burnouts or something showing off the fact hes driving car.
. He has 3 little dachshunds (when he was younger) i can see you two going on cute lil date with the 3 in-tow in like a park having a picnic or just walking around getting some fresh air
. Since he grew up with 4 older sisters i think its fair to say he'd be very helpful for your period, would get you snacks, hot water bottles the whole lots and you two would just relax and watch movies together.
This is pretty much all that i could find out about him some of the stuff i wrote it looked like something he'd do but like the last 4 are from an interview.

Finally getting around to this but.... highly specific hot takes for niche things that no one cares about: Vans shouldn't be FWD (front wheel drive) just.... in general. Family minivans (or MPV type vehicles in countries that aren't the USA despite them still being multi purpose vehicles) are supposed to do a number of things.... like carry heavy loads in the trunk, or towing. For family minivans I guess it makes sense...? It saves gas. However, people hauling vans (Ford Transit etc) aren't FWD. The only trades van I know of that is FWD is the Ram Promaster, but it's the cheapest on the market, so that makes sense. It was designed to be cheap and drive somewhat like a car so it could make up massive van fleets at low prices without a need for lots of driver training. It also causes your load and drive axle to rise off the ground and lose traction when loaded heavily, both things that vans are designed to do. It is pointless and stupid to make vans less effective so that they are easier to drive. A van that doesn't handle like a van means you can't really do van things with it, and you can make up MPG losses with higher engine efficiency.

Life update rant. Not very uplifting and its terribly long, so its under a line for people that don't want to subject themselves to it.
After having our car finally towed to a mechanic that agreed to replace the head gasket on the engine for an affordable price that my mother in law offered to cover, mechanic states that rust has developed in the engine that apparently demands either a rebuild of the engine or total replacement, which bumps up the cost of the car repair to a ridiculous amount no one can pay. We are now being asked if we want to have the car scrapped. Doubt we will get anything remotely feasible for it to help toward the purchase of a new car in the near future, but I suppose we'll see what happens. Having no car in the USA is just a slow suffocation of resources, which we have little of.
My spouse and I are currently still unemployed, even after trying to apply for different places within walking distance - we are often told that the actual location is elsewhere, and we aren't getting there without a car. Bus stop is a 30 minute walk just to even get to ride a bus, takes 2 hours to get anywhere from there after bus transfers.
Luckily my husband is able to draw unemployment - I was unable to get accepted for it myself since I was fired in February (for my unstable attendance due to an undiagnosed medical condition). My oldest son is still able to help with his own job, though only on the weekends, which he is trying to keep up on with Uber rides. I'm trying to make do with applying for a remote job that will accept online working from something that doesn't require ethernet, as I don't have access to that. Trying to get hired on to a company currently that can potentially pay me part time. So I am currently hinging my life on promoting art commissions right now to help...which has not been as successful as I would like, sigh.
We are also trying to support my other 2 children who are on the spectrum, and they are enrolled in a vocational program to help them to be more self sufficient in their adult lives. I am hoping more resources will become more available to them individually when they can finally get the diagnosis they need from their assigned therapists. I am so, so proud of all my spawn and what they try to do, and my rock of a husband, and some days they are the only thing that keeps me from wanting to walk into oncoming traffic and put myself out of my useless existence, quite frankly lol.
Money is severely tight, most times we can only afford to pay our weekly rent and little else. We are trying to take advantage of food pantries but most depend on actually being able to drive there to pick up the food, which connects back to our primary issue with the car. But we have basic internet access and shelter and potential connections for help, and in-laws that understand the situation and are trying to help to the best of their own ability. Very survival mode right now. I am trying to not lose hope. Some days are harder to smile than others, definitely.

This is… an insane long shot.
But does anyone happen to live around Rutland, Vermont, USA and would be willing to.. house two people, some cats and dogs in your yard for the night.
My car just got towed because someone else hit it and I didn’t have insurance.
That was the only home I had left, and everything here fell apart.
Is there anyone who can help? Please? I’m on the side of a road in an ammo places parking lot.

Book description
From USA Today and Amazon Charts bestselling authors Kerrigan Byrne and Cynthia St. Aubin, comes their latest Romcom featuring a quirky cast of characters who represent the hilarious absurdity of life while making you fall head-over-heels in love. This steamy, laugh out loud, opposites-attract small town romance reminds us that we don't have to be perfect to deserve our own happily ever after!
Gemini "Gemma" McKendrick knows just about everything about everybody in Townsend Harbor. When she's not serving on one of the many civic positions or leaping headlong into another hobby, she's hosting the Sunday Stitch 'N Bitch at her yarn and craft shop, Bazaar Girls. With her quirky boutique in big financial trouble, she makes a snap decision to rent out the basement of her cozy craftsman to Townsend Harbor newcomer Gabe Kelly. A man with a past as colorful as his tattoo sleeves, who has become an urban legend since he blew into town. And who better than Gemma, Townsend Harbor's own gossip guru, to answer the rumor mill's most pressing questions? Like whether the silver-tongued mechanic is as good with his hands as he is with a socket wrench.
Gabriel "Gabe" Kelly wasn't born into a family so much as a criminal enterprise. Taught to lift, chop, and rebuild cars since before he could tie his own shoes, he's obliged to pay his debt to society before deserting South Boston for Townsend Harbor, Washington. Surely he can stay out of trouble here, right? He immediately finds the only position an ex-con with prison muscles and neck tattoos could easily find in a town like this, and buys the vintage car mechanic shop from it's retiring owner . Moonlighting as the only tow truck in a thirty-mile radius, he rescues the absent-minded hottie who runs the local yarn shop. But he quickly discovers that a toy-sized car with a dashboard lit up by Christmas isn't the only thing in Gemma McKendrick's life desperately in need of maintenance. Gabe, who is uniquely qualified to diagnose and fix complicated mechanisms, finds his sexy landlord is impossible to figure out. Looks like he'll have to take a peek at her undercarriage to find out what makes her purr before he hits the road again.
Because women of her caliber don't take home guys with his make and model...
But he knows she wants a test drive.

My Review
5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
One of the most entertaining series I’ve read in a long time! So many laugh out loud moments, sexual innuendo, secrets and with a great group of strong-willed, independent, women, who all have their own unique problems. These women have bonded together to support each other, any way they can, as they find their way through life…and love! Townsend Harbor seems to be the perfect place with its quaintness and quirkiness for all these characters to blend and live in. This is Gemma and Gabe’s story and I never saw this sizzling relationship coming!!!! And it is an eye opener! Just saying Gemma really surprised me in this opposites-attract romance!
Gemma McKendrick lives in a constant state of clutter and disorganization due to her inability to stay on task for any length of time. Thanks all to her ADHD’s delightful bonus, of body betrayals but also because she constantly overextended herself in Townsend Harbor. But when her father and sister start questioning her, regarding her quirky boutique and its profit margin, she suddenly decides to rent out the basement of her house to Gabe Kelly. The same Gabe Kelly that happened to be the most soul-crushingly beautiful man Gemma had ever met. But when her identical twin Lyra and her fiancé Harrison shows up unexpectedly, and catches her in a rather awkward position, what will her family think of her attraction to the hot bad boy? Her family surely wouldn’t approve of him, if she brought him home for Sunday dinner. But she wants so much more out of life and she was willing to finally reach out and take it.
"If experience is what you want, I'd be more than willing to help you with that. Anything you want to know, anything you want to try, anything you want do. No strings attached."
Gabe "The Babe" Kelly was an old friend of Darby's from Boston, who had made his Townsend Harbor debut in a duet on aerial silks that left neither eyes nor panties dry. A man with a past as colorful as his sleeves of tattoos. Born into a family of criminals, he’d learned at an early age to lift, chop, and rebuild cars. Gabe was full of a past filled with darkness and danger, Southie trash with a rap sheet to prove it. As an ex-con he decides to buys a vintage car mechanic shop from it retiring owner in hopes of staying out of trouble in Townsend Harbour. But when Gemma McKendrick offers him her basement to rent out, he knew he was in deep trouble. Because he hadn't been able to get the image of her out of his head, since the night of Darby's benefit. Which was exactly why he couldn't get tangled up with her. Gemma was sweetness and light, the girl next door with a heart of gold. Until she needed him!
"I'm attracted to you," she said, her voice barely audible above the waves. "Like, a lot. Like, so much that it's basically an obsession”
These two are so…HOT! Sexy, charming and totally head over heels in…lust with each other. Their relationship is so sweet and captivating, I loved watching these two opposites come together and be exactly what the other needed. With Gemma, Gabe was starting to imagine a real future together. But when trouble shows up again, will Gemma and Gabe get their HEA? Or will family cause the end of their future together? You will want to read this one to get all the spicy and sexy details!
I received an early copy and this is my honest review.
