So today I had to go to Mississauga to get the plate off my car (only one because the second one was lost in the accident). I don’t feel like it was worth it!
Driving down the 401 was fine till Toronto when I start to lose it. Google maps kept redirecting me on and off the collectors/express, trying to make me change like 4 lanes in under a km on a crowded ass highway, at this point I’m crying. Eventually manage to get off at the airport and take a nice quieter backroad meant for cargo trucks lmao.
I get to the garage and they let me in and I ask a mechanic to show me where my car is in the impound lot.
He asks me, “is the car a total loss?”
Yes.
“Did you settle yet?”
No.
“But you released it to the insurance company?”
Yes.
“Why on earth would you release it before settling. Now you can’t argue for more money because you’ve already given them your car.”
That’s not true.
“Say if you were trying to sell your purse for $10, I offer you $5, you say no and give it to me anyways and keep bartering?”
The insurance industry is heavily regulated here. They are contracted to replace the value of the car for us. (This isn’t Facebook marketplace).
“Yea, well, it’s regulated but it’s not THAT regulated.”
If we are too difficult with the insurance company they can drop our case (okay I read this on Reddit and I’m not sure it would happen that quickly).
“Well whatever I guess you know more than I do there’s your car good luck getting your plates off.”
(He leaves and I ask a different guy to get it off for me).
-Insurance adjuster friend said they just want an excuse to charge the insurance company for storage fees.
-Garage super friendly during accident claims that they are just going to do their best to get as much storage fees from the insurance company as they can but they will NEVER charge me for it.
-The release paper I signed from the garage however states that owner can be charged for extra storage fees that insurance won’t cover, which I guess doesn’t matter because the car is a total loss and we’re not ever taking it ourselves.
-I think the garage is just trying to put up a high storage fee so the insurance company abandons it there so they can use it for parts.
After this annoyance I spent an hour and a half driving down the lakefront road of Toronto, which was much less stressful for me going 40km/h in 40km/h zones. What’s really bad for me is the highway, when you are going fast and have to slow down suddenly, because I was rear ended I am very uncomfortable with vehicles behind me that think they should be going 100/h in heavy traffic.
To get to the car rental place, and he tells me the $200 fee because the car was from the Mississauga location. Well I never picked it up there it was brought to me in the middle of the night without much say. At this point I start sobbing at the thought of driving 1.5hrs back on the highway and then taking 1.5hrs of public transit to get to union station. Decide it’s not worth it because every moment with the rental car was so stressful for me. Leave the car there, walk 10 min to the go train, get to union and get on via rail.
Canada has no fault insurance meaning no matter what you essentially take 50% of the blame for any accidents. Like even if someone hits your parked car if you’re not in it.

The sun is creeping up at daybreak and casting shadows off the bridge at Bathurst Street as a morning inbound GO Transit commuter train, lead by GP40TC 607, rolls into the Toronto Terminals Railway trackage at Cabin D (behind the third car) and passes some switchtenders in charge of the manually controlled ground-throws. This area, from the west limits of the TTR to west of Spadina Avenue was known as the "Bathurst Street Non-Interlocking" zone in timetables. All switches were manually controlled via switchtenders on the ground (rain, snow, shine or heat), with movements co-ordinated by the Cabin D train director. The rest of the TTR territory was made up of automated interlocking plants installed in the 1920's and controlled by John, Scott and Cherry St. towers. The antiquated control system at Bathurst Street, a relic from the 1890's, continued to be in use until track re-alignments and upgrades in the early-mid 80's when the new flyunder went in, mainline realignments happened, and Cabin D was removed (the location itself was also renamed from Cabin D to Bathurst Street). The new automated interlocking system was remotely controlled via a panel in the John St. interlocking tower. Visible is the typical view off Bathurst Street bridge for decades past: in the upper left is Liberty Village, with a Canada Packers billboard ad on the top of the Federal Cold Storage building. Part of the John Inglis plant is visible behind that, adjacent to CPR's Parkdale Yard (note the headlight of a switcher near Strachan Avenue grade crossing). In the middle background is the Toronto Municipal Abbatoir/Quality Meat Packers, and on the right were some buildings once home to Consumers Gas. Most of the area around Bathurst Street interlocking has undergone extensive gentrification and redevelopment, and looks quite different even from what it looked like in the late 2000's.

From home security to energy savings, advanced automation has found its way into virtually every corner of modern houses. No longer just a simple barrier for cars and storage, today’s garage door can become a central feature of your property’s intelligence ecosystem. With a smart garage door opener, you gain seamless control through your smartphone, improved security via rolling code tech, and the convenience of voice or app-based commands. In the bustling Greater Toronto Area (GTA), homeowners are increasingly opting for a Wi-Fi garage door Toronto solution that integrates with existing smart home hubs like Alexa, Google Assistant, or Apple HomeKit. This comprehensive guide will explore the evolution of overhead door technology, focusing on advanced garage door automation features that go beyond traditional remote controls. We’ll discuss popular drive systems—belt, chain, and jackshaft—and why each might suit different needs. You’ll also see how leading brands like LiftMaster and Chamberlain stack up in terms of connectivity, durability, and cost. By the end, you’ll understand the benefits of a smart home integration for overhead doors, how to choose the best Wi-Fi garage door opener for GTA homes, and why these devices are transforming how we secure and access our garages. Why Homeowners in the GTA Are Embracing Smart Garage Doors Before diving into the specifics, it helps to grasp why the smart garage door opener is gaining so much traction in the GTA. It’s partly due to Toronto’s fast-paced urban environment, where saving time and ensuring security are top priorities. But it’s also about convenience: - Enhanced Security: A Wi-Fi garage door Toronto system offers real-time alerts on your phone, so you’ll know instantly if your garage door opens unexpectedly. The opener’s rolling code changes with each use, thwarting code-grabbing thieves. - Remote Monitoring: Forgot to close the garage door before you left for work? No problem. Smart home apps let you check and close the door from your smartphone, no matter where you are. - Integration with Other Devices: With smart home integration for overhead doors, you can sync your opener with cameras, motion sensors, or lighting systems for a fully automated experience. - Seasonal Challenges: Winters in the GTA can be harsh, and stepping out into freezing temperatures to check a stubborn garage door is less than ideal. Voice or app-based controls mean you can open or close your garage door while staying warm indoors or sitting in your car. This surge in popularity also reflects a broader trend of upgrading older overhead doors for better insulation, quieter operation, and advanced connectivity. For many property owners, a smart garage door opener ends up being one of the easiest and most impactful home automation investments. Key Benefits of a Smart Garage Door Opener Elevating your garage door from a manual or basic remote-operated system to a Wi-Fi garage door Toronto setup provides tangible gains: - Real-Time Notifications - App-based alerts tell you if someone opened your garage door. - Useful if you rent out part of your property or want to verify kids got home safely. - Scheduling - Program your door to shut automatically at night, even if you forget to do so. - Perfect for maintaining security in busy households. - Guest Access - Let a trusted neighbor or contractor in without lending them a physical key. - Time-limited codes ensure extended access isn’t a risk. - Reduced Noise - Many advanced garage door automation features come with belt-drive motors that operate more quietly than older chain-drive units. - Added Value - Installing a smart garage door opener can boost your property’s market appeal—technologically advanced homes often command higher resale prices, especially when features add measurable convenience. When you bundle these enhancements with robust security tech, it’s no surprise that a Wi-Fi garage door Toronto solution has become a sought-after upgrade. Of course, the best approach depends on your door’s drive system and brand preferences, which we’ll explore next. Comparing Drive Types: Belt, Chain, and Jackshaft A smart garage door opener doesn’t exist in isolation—it’s part of a larger mechanical system that lifts and lowers your overhead door. The drive mechanism is one of the biggest factors determining noise level, cost, and long-term reliability. Below is Table 1 for a quick comparison. Drive TypeNoise LevelMaintenance NeedsIdeal UsageCost RangeBelt DriveLow (quiet operation)Moderate (belt inspection)Attached garages, noise-sensitive environmentsMid to highChain DriveModerate to high noiseFrequent lubrication neededDetached garages, lower budget installationsLower to midJackshaftVery low noiseMinimal (wall-mounted)High ceilings, limited overhead spaceHigher-end cost Belt Drive Utilizing a reinforced rubber belt, belt-drive openers produce significantly less noise than their chain-driven counterparts. This option is a top pick for homes with an attached garage and offers a polished look. Many belt-drive units now come with smart home integration for overhead doors, making them an excellent choice if you value minimal noise and robust connectivity. Chain Drive Long used in standard overhead door setups, chain drives employ a metal chain to pull the trolley. They’re often more cost-effective but produce audible vibrations, which may bother light sleepers if the garage is adjacent to living spaces. You’ll still find chain-drive options with Wi-Fi garage door Toronto functionality, though their mechanical components may need more frequent lubrication. Jackshaft Drive Also known as side-mount openers, jackshaft drives place the motor on the wall beside the garage door rather than overhead. This design frees up ceiling space—handy if you use the garage for storage. While typically more expensive, jackshaft openers often come with advanced garage door automation features by default, providing near-silent operation and advanced smartphone control. Your existing door size, budget, and tolerance for noise will influence the drive type you select. If you’re not sure which suits you best, a professional can assess your garage layout and recommend a suitable solution aligned with your needs for quietness, cost, and connectivity. Popular Brands: LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and More Choosing a brand is the next major step after deciding on a drive type. Here are the top contenders for a smart garage door opener, well-suited for homeowners aiming to adopt Wi-Fi garage door Toronto capabilities: - LiftMaster - Known for heavy-duty construction and advanced security features. - Offers MyQ technology for smartphone integration, real-time alerts, and scheduling. - Commonly used in commercial settings as well. - Chamberlain - A consumer-friendly arm of the same parent company as LiftMaster. - MyQ compatibility ensures seamless phone app controls. - Ideal for residential overhead doors seeking a user-friendly setup. - Genie - Specializes in easy-to-install openers with robust customer support. - Some models incorporate Aladdin Connect for remote operation and scheduling. - Varied price points to fit different budgets. - Sommer - European brand offering direct-drive openers that minimize vibration. - Tends to be quieter than chain or belt models, with integrated safety features. - Craftsman - Sold primarily through retail channels. - While not always as advanced in connectivity, newer lines incorporate smartphone control modules. - Good mid-range choice if you want basic features without a high cost. When picking a brand, weigh support availability in the GTA, warranty coverage, and how well the model integrates with your existing or planned smart home ecosystem. Advanced Garage Door Automation Features Beyond basic up-and-down control, a smart garage door opener often introduces a spectrum of advanced capabilities. These can drastically change how you interact with your garage: Real-Time Monitoring and Alerts If your door opens while you’re at work, you’ll receive an instant notification. This feature deters theft by letting you respond quickly—maybe calling a neighbor or checking a camera feed to see what’s happening. Voice Assistant Integration Those with smart home integration for overhead doors can use commands like “Alexa, close the garage door” or “Hey Google, check if my garage door is open.” This synergy makes daily routines more convenient, especially when leaving in a rush or arriving home with hands full. Geofencing Capabilities Set the opener to automatically close your garage door once your smartphone’s GPS confirms you’ve left the immediate vicinity. For multi-vehicle households, each user’s phone can trigger door events separately. Battery Backup Toronto’s winter storms sometimes knock out power lines. An opener with a battery backup ensures you’re not left manually lifting a heavy door in sub-zero conditions. Smart Keypad Access Create custom entry codes for babysitters, dog walkers, or service technicians. You can delete or time-limit these codes at will, reinforcing security while providing flexible access. Such advanced garage door automation features revolve around convenience, safety, and efficiency, making them particularly appealing for busy families or those who frequently travel. How to Choose the Best Wi-Fi Garage Door Opener for GTA Homes You know the drive types, you’ve seen the brand names, and you’re convinced that a smart garage door opener could enhance your lifestyle. But how do you choose the best Wi-Fi garage door opener for GTA homes? Start by considering: - Door Size and Weight - Heavy wood or insulated steel doors may require higher horsepower motors, like a 3/4 HP or more, to lift reliably. - Smaller single-bay doors might be fine with a 1/2 HP or even less. - Budget Constraints - Basic chain-drive systems with Wi-Fi cost less but can be noisy. - Belt or jackshaft drives push the price higher but reward you with quieter operation. - Ecosystem Compatibility - Do you already use Apple HomeKit, Google Assistant, or Amazon Alexa? Pick a brand that integrates easily. - If you rely on a single brand’s app for other devices, see if that brand’s opener fits your system. - Installation Complexity - Replacing an existing overhead opener with a new chain or belt drive might be straightforward. - Installing a jackshaft opener, though, could demand structural adjustments or side-mount rails. - Local Support - Look for Wi-Fi garage door Toronto providers or local technicians offering brand-specific expertise, ensuring faster service if issues arise. A final factor is how your chosen opener’s design (chain, belt, or side-mount) aligns with your garage’s layout. Squeezed for headroom? Jackshaft might be ideal. Trying to keep costs minimal? A chain drive is an economical but still connected pick. Quick Brand Comparison To help you streamline brand selection, here’s a side-by-side look at common opener providers and their key attributes. Installation and Professional Assistance While some homeowners tackle a Wi-Fi garage door Toronto setup themselves, a professional technician can streamline the process: - Proper Alignment: Even minor track misalignments can lead to uneven door movement or sensor malfunctions. - Safety Checks: Technicians calibrate spring tension, confirm auto-reverse functionality, and reduce the risk of mishaps. - Warranty Compliance: Many top brands require professional installation to maintain full warranty coverage. - Smart Home Integration: Setting up MyQ, Aladdin Connect, or similar systems might require experience with networking and device pairing. A local expert understands the intricacies of overhead doors in the GTA, from typical climate considerations to compliance with local building codes. This service ensures your new smart garage door opener meets your expectations right out of the box—secure, quiet, and easy to control via smartphone or voice commands. Maintenance Tips for a Smart Garage Door Opener To keep your newly installed or upgraded system in top shape, incorporate these best practices: - Regular Lubrication: Chain-drive or belt-drive openers still need lubrication at contact points. Specifically target rollers, hinges, and the drive system (if recommended by the manufacturer). - Check Sensor Alignment: These are crucial for auto-reverse safety. Dirt or knocks can shift sensors slightly, requiring small readjustments. - Firmware Updates: If your opener has advanced or Wi-Fi garage door Toronto functionality, watch for software updates that fix bugs or add new features. - Inspect Cables and Springs: Even with a robust motor, the mechanical parts must be in good condition to prevent breakdowns or unsafe door operation. - Test Battery Backups: For openers with battery systems, confirm the battery’s charge monthly. This step is vital if you often face power outages in the GTA. These steps maintain a balance between mechanical longevity and reliable connectivity—key for any smart home integration for overhead doors. Troubleshooting Common Problems Even the best brand or advanced system can encounter occasional hiccups. Here’s a quick overview of common issues and potential fixes: - Door Doesn’t Respond: Check Wi-Fi connectivity, opener power source, or if the door is on “vacation lock” mode. Reboot the opener if necessary. - Intermittent Alerts: If your phone occasionally fails to receive notifications, re-check your app settings or confirm stable home Wi-Fi. - Grinding Noises: Possibly an alignment problem or a lubrication issue with the drive system. Inspect the track for debris. - Stuck or Partial Closing: Photo-eye sensors might be misaligned or obstructed. Clean the lenses, ensuring they face each other unobstructed. If these quick steps fail, consult your user manual or contact a local service specializing in Wi-Fi garage door Toronto units for a deeper diagnostic. The Future of Smart Garage Doors Technology is rapidly evolving, hinting that the next generation of smart garage door opener solutions could integrate even more seamlessly: - Artificial Intelligence: Systems may recognize owners’ vehicles automatically, opening only for approved license plates. - Enhanced Energy Efficiency: Doors might communicate with the rest of your house’s energy grid, adjusting insulation or going into “eco-mode.” - Adaptive Maintenance Alerts: Using sensors to measure tension or wear, openers might forecast part failures—alerting you to schedule service in advance. These developments indicate that advanced garage door automation features aren’t just a trend; they’re the new normal. Homeowners in places like Toronto, with large populations of tech-savvy residents, stand to benefit most from these cutting-edge capabilities. Conclusion A smart garage door opener offers a leap forward for households that value convenience, security, and integration with existing technology. By installing a Wi-Fi garage door Toronto solution, you’ll enjoy remote monitoring, instant notifications, and even voice or geofencing controls that streamline daily life. Coupled with quiet belt or jackshaft drives and strong brand reputations—like LiftMaster or Chamberlain—these systems deliver reliability and peace of mind. As you evaluate whether to upgrade, consider your garage’s layout, your budget, and how deeply you want to embed your overhead door into a broader smart home environment. For some, a chain-drive unit with basic Wi-Fi meets every need; for others, a top-of-the-line belt-drive model with auto-locking features and advanced sensors might be the ideal. Whichever path you take, few home improvements match the day-to-day convenience of a smart garage door opener—especially in the bustling, weather-diverse GTA. Read the full article

Canadian Furniture Maker Closes B.C. Plant, Moves Operations To North Carolina Amid Trump Tariffs
Tumblr media
Unifor, Canada’s largest private sector union, announced that Canadian furniture maker Prepac
Tumblr media
is closing down its manufacturing plant in Delta, British Columbia (B.C.), moving all production to its other manufacturing plant in North Carolina — which first opened in 2021.
“Prepac is a successful North American designer, manufacturer and drop shipper of functional and stylish RTA (Ready-To-Assemble) home furniture. We maintain a ‘Just in Time’ inventory which ensures that stock is always available to ship within 2 business days! Our RTA product categories include Bedroom Furniture, Home Office Furniture, Living Room Furniture, Media Storage, Audio Video Furniture, Entryway Furniture, and Utility Storage,” the company’s website states.
Due to the closure, over 170 Canadians will lose their jobs at the British Columbia plant, as Unifor representatives suggested that those positions would be moved to the North Carolina plant.
“Our union has been warning about lost investment and production since Trump began his economic war on Canada and Canadian workers,” Unifor National President Lana Payne said in a statement. “In this case, Prepac and its equity owners are using the tariffs as an excuse to redirect all their production to the U.S. It’s pure greed.”
The CEO of Prepac, Nick Bozikis, said that the move to the Tarheel State puts the company’s production closer to its top consumer base — United States residents.
This comes after 47th president Donald Trump announced 50% tariffs on steel and aluminum arriving in the United States market from Canada. Trump also noted that more tariffs would come if Canada does not drop its extremely high tariffs on U.S. dairy and agricultural products.
“Canada must immediately drop their Anti-American Farmer Tariff of 250% to 390% on various U.S. dairy products, which has long been considered outrageous,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “… If other egregious, long time Tariffs are not likewise dropped by Canada, I will substantially increase, on April 2nd, the Tariffs on Cars coming into the U.S. which will, essentially, permanently shut down the automobile manufacturing business in Canada,” Trump wrote.
Prepac, founded in Vancouver in 1979, opened the nearby Delta factory in 2005. In 2019, however, the company was acquired by Toronto private equity firm TorQuest Partners.
Unifor is Canada’s largest union in the private sector, representing over 320,000 workers in every major area of the economy.

How Scrap Car Removal Helps Declutter Your Property
Tumblr media
Having an old, unused car on your property can be more than just an eyesore—it can take up valuable space, attract pests, and even pose safety hazards. Fortunately, scrap car removal in Toronto offers an efficient and eco-friendly solution. These services help you clear out unwanted vehicles and bring several additional benefits. Here’s how scrap car removal helps declutter your property and improve your surroundings.
1. Freeing Up Valuable Space
An old car parked in your driveway, yard, or garage occupies space that could be used for other purposes. Removing a scrap vehicle creates room for parking, storage, or open space for outdoor activities.
Examples of Space Benefits:
Convert a cluttered garage into a workshop or home gym.
Open up your yard for landscaping or recreational use.
Free driveway space for new vehicles or visitors.
Reclaiming this area can make your property more functional and appealing.
2. Improving Aesthetics
A rusty, broken-down car doesn’t do any favors for the look of your property. Removing it can drastically enhance the overall look and feel of your home.
Visual Benefits:
Clean, uncluttered spaces make your property look well-maintained.
Boosts curb appeal, especially if you’re considering selling your home.
Prevents your property from becoming an eyesore in the neighborhood.
A tidy yard or driveway reflects positively on your property and makes it more inviting.
3. Enhancing Safety
Old vehicles left unused can pose safety risks. Rusted metal, sharp edges, or broken parts can cause injuries, if you have children or pets. Additionally, leaking fluids like oil or antifreeze can contaminate the soil and create hazards.
How Scrap Car Removal Enhances Safety:
Eliminates risks of accidental injuries.
Prevents toxic fluid leaks that could harm the environment and your health.
Reduces the chances of attracting pests or vermin that might make the vehicle their home.
Scrap car removal ensures your property is a safer place for everyone.
4. Reducing Environmental Impact
Leaving a scrap car on your property is inconvenient and can harm the environment. Rust, leaking fluids, and other contaminants can seep into the soil and groundwater causing pollution. Scrap car removal services handle vehicles in an eco-friendly way.
Environmental Benefits:
Recyclers properly dispose of hazardous materials, such as batteries and oils.
Usable parts are salvaged and reused, reducing waste.
Scrap metal is recycled, minimizing the need for new raw materials.
Choosing a professional scrap car removal service helps you contribute to a cleaner, greener environment.
5. Simplifying Maintenance
A neglected car can make your property untidy and disorganized. Grass and weeds may grow around it, pests might nest inside, and debris can accumulate in and around the vehicle. Scrap car removal reduces these maintenance hassles.
Maintenance Advantages:
More accessible lawn care and landscaping without obstacles in the way.
No need to clean up after pests or deal with accumulated debris.
Reduces the spread of rust or other decay to nearby objects or structures.
Simplifying your property’s upkeep is another reason to consider scrap car removal.
6. Financial Benefits
Many people don’t realize that removing a scrap car can be a source of extra cash. Professional scrap car removal services often pay you for the value of your vehicle, even if it’s no longer running.
How It Helps Financially:
Earn money for the car’s metal, parts, or scrap value.
Save on repair or maintenance costs for a vehicle you’re not using.
Avoid potential fines for abandoned vehicles or property code violations.
Instead of losing money on an unused vehicle, you can turn it into an asset.
7. Supporting a Cleaner Neighborhood
Removing scrap cars improves your property and the entire community. A cleaner neighbourhood benefits everyone and can even increase property values.
Community Impact:
Prevents the area from looking run-down.
Reduces potential environmental hazards that could affect neighbours.
Encourages others to declutter and maintain their properties.
Your proactive step can inspire a positive ripple effect in the community.
8. Convenient and Hassle-Free Process
One of the biggest advantages of scrap car removal services is how easy they make the process. Most services handle everything, from car towing to paperwork and recycling.
What You Can Expect:
No need to transport the car yourself—services come to you.
Quick removal, often completed in a single day.
Assistance with transferring ownership or deregistering the vehicle.
This convenience means you can declutter your property without stress or effort.
Conclusion

This service delivers a wide range of benefits, including freeing up space, improving safety, enhancing aesthetics, and even earning some cash. Professional scrap car removal services from TOP CASH 4 SCRAP CARS is the solution. It can clean up your yard, boost property value, or make your home safer and cleaner. Mastering Stunt Driving Charges: Impounds, Costs, and Court Dates in Rural Ontario
Tumblr media
Navigating a Stunt Driving Tow & Impound in Ontario's Remote Regions
Facing a stunt driving charge in Ontario, which comes with a 14-day vehicle impoundment, is already a difficult situation to deal with. It becomes even more difficult when you're away from home, enjoying a weekend getaway, visiting a cottage, having a camping trip or spending time with friends and family. After being charged with at the roadside, you're left with your car being towed away to an impound yard located many hours from your actual home. The logistical implications of this impound are severe. After the 14-day impound period, you'll have to trek all the way back a considerable distance to pick up your car. To add to the complexity, a 30-day license roadside suspension accompanies the Stunt Driving charge. This means that you'll now need the help of a friend or family member to retrieve and drive your car back home.  Remember, the impound is only 14 days, but you can't drive for 30 days.
Understanding the Variable Costs of Tow & Impound Services
The cost of towing and impoundment related to a stunt driving charge can vary widely based on several factors. A significant aspect affecting the price is the distance between your vehicle's location and the designated tow yard. In large urban areas like Toronto or Brampton, the short distance to the numerous impound lots available keeps costs relatively manageable. However, if you encounter a stunt driving charge in smaller, more rural parts of Ontario, the situation is different. The fewer impound lots mean longer distances for the tow truck to cover from the site of your charge. Given that towing fees often correlate with distance traveled, costs in these situations can escalate rapidly. With fewer tow yards operating in these less populated areas, competition is lower, which could lead to higher storage fees. Therefore, the total cost when retrieving your car after the 14-day impound period could be significantly higher than expected.
Managing a Stunt Driving Court Date in Rural Ontario
Encountering a stunt driving charge outside a major city like Toronto or Brampton introduces additional challenges to your case. Understanding these factors can help you better prepare for your upcoming court date: - Smaller courts in rural areas typically have fewer prosecutors and Justices of the Peace, which could impact how your case is handled. - A tough stance by the Prosecutor on stunt driving charges can lead to severe penalties. - A Justice of the Peace with a stricter view on stunt driving may levy higher penalties within the designated range. For instance, fines for stunt driving range from $2,000 to $10,000, while license suspensions can vary from 1 to 3 years. - Smaller courts often move cases along more swiftly, potentially adding pressure on your decision-making process regarding your case. https://youtu.be/LKLpL94-Gsw Read the full article

Tips for choosing the right tires, proper inflation, and regular rotations
Your tires are the only part of your car that makes contact with the road. They play a crucial role in your vehicle’s safety, performance, and fuel efficiency. Proper tire care is essential to ensure a smooth and enjoyable driving experience. Here are some tips for choosing the right tires, maintaining proper inflation, and performing regular rotations.
Tumblr media
Choosing the Right Tires
When selecting new tires, consider the following factors:
Vehicle Type: Different vehicles have specific tire requirements. Consult your owner’s manual or a tire professional to determine the correct tire size and type for your car.
Driving Conditions: Think about the conditions you’ll encounter most often. If you frequently drive in snowy or icy conditions, you’ll need winter tires. If you do a lot of highway driving, tires with a high treadwear rating might be suitable.
Tire Type: Common tire types include all-season tires, performance tires, and winter tires. All-season tires offer a balance of performance in various conditions, while performance tires prioritize handling and grip. Winter tires are designed for optimal performance in cold weather and snow.
Tire Brand: Reputable tire brands offer quality products with consistent performance. Research different brands and read reviews to find tires that align with your needs and budget.
Maintaining Proper Tire Inflation
Underinflated or overinflated tires can compromise your vehicle’s safety, handling, and fuel efficiency. Check your tire pressure regularly, ideally once a month or before long trips. Refer to your owner’s manual or the tire pressure sticker located inside the driver’s side door jamb for the recommended inflation pressure. Use a tire pressure gauge to ensure accurate readings.
Signs of Incorrect Tire Pressure:
Uneven Wear: If your tires wear unevenly, it could be a sign of incorrect tire pressure.
Reduced Fuel Efficiency: Underinflated tires can increase rolling resistance, leading to higher fuel consumption.
Poor Handling: Overinflated tires may feel harsh and less responsive.
Regular Tire Rotations
Tire rotations help ensure even wear and extend the life of your tires. The recommended rotation schedule varies depending on your vehicle and driving habits. Consult your owner’s manual for specific guidelines. Typically, tires are rotated every 5,000 to 7,500 miles.
Benefits of Tire Rotations:
Even Wear: By moving tires from the front to the rear and vice versa, you can help prevent premature wear on the tires that typically experience more stress.
Improved Handling: Regular rotations can contribute to better vehicle handling and stability.
Longer Tire Life: Proper tire rotations can help your tires last longer.
Additional Tips:
Inspect Tires Regularly: Check your tires for signs of wear, damage, or foreign objects embedded in the tread.
Balance Your Wheels: Out-of-balance wheels can cause vibration and uneven tire wear. Have your wheels balanced regularly.
Store Tires Properly: If you’re storing your tires for extended periods, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for proper storage.
By following these tips for choosing the right tires, maintaining proper inflation, and performing regular rotations, you can ensure that your tires are in optimal condition, providing a safe and comfortable driving experience.

How to Maintain and Care for Your Hearing Aids in Toronto’s Climate
Tumblr media
Hearing aids are essential devices that significantly improve the quality of life for those with hearing loss. However, like any other technology, they require regular maintenance to ensure they function optimally. In Toronto, where the climate ranges from humid summers to cold, dry winters, taking special care of your hearing aids is crucial. Here’s how to maintain and care for your hearing aids in Toronto’s unique climate.
1. Protecting Against Moisture in Humid Summers
Toronto summers can be hot and humid, leading to moisture buildup in your hearing aids. Moisture is a common enemy of electronic devices, and hearing aids are no exception. To protect your hearing aids:
Use a Hearing Aid Dehumidifier: At the end of the day, place your hearing aids in a dehumidifier to remove any moisture that may have accumulated.
Keep Them Dry: Avoid wearing hearing aids while swimming or during heavy perspiration. If you do, ensure they are thoroughly dried afterwards.
Consider a Water-Resistant Model: If you’re frequently outdoors or active, investing in water-resistant hearing aids can be beneficial.
2. Preventing Damage from Cold Winters
Toronto winters are known for their cold temperatures, which can cause condensation inside your hearing aids when moving from cold outdoors to warm indoors. This can damage the internal components.
Avoid Rapid Temperature Changes: When transitioning from cold to warm environments, keep your hearing aids in your pocket or bag until they reach room temperature.
Keep Batteries Warm: Cold temperatures can drain hearing aid batteries faster. Store spare batteries in a warm, dry place, and consider using a hearing aid battery warming pouch.
3. Regular Cleaning and Maintenance
Toronto’s environment can bring dust, pollen, and other particles that can clog the tiny components of your hearing aids. Regular cleaning is essential to maintain their performance.
Clean Daily: Wipe your hearing aids with a soft, dry cloth daily. Use a cleaning brush or a soft toothbrush to remove any debris from the microphone and receiver.
Schedule Professional Cleanings: Visit your audiologist regularly for professional cleanings and check-ups, especially if you notice a decrease in performance.
Replace Wax Guards: Wax buildup is a common issue that can block sound. Replace the wax guard regularly to prevent this.
4. Storage Tips for All Seasons
Proper storage of your hearing aids is essential, regardless of the season.
Use a Hard Case: When not in use, store your hearing aids in a hard case to protect them from damage and dust.
Avoid Heat Sources: Never leave your hearing aids in direct sunlight, near radiators, or hot cars, as excessive heat can damage the electronics.
Turn Them Off: Always turn off your hearing aids when not in use to conserve battery life and prevent unnecessary wear and tear.
5. Consider Your Lifestyle
Your lifestyle in Toronto can also influence how you care for your hearing aids. If you’re active and spend a lot of time outdoors, you may need to take extra precautions.
Use Hearing Aid Covers: If you’re active in sports or outdoor activities, consider using hearing aid covers to protect them from moisture, dirt, and impact.
Plan for Travel: If you travel frequently, especially during Toronto’s harsh winter months, carry a portable dehumidifier and extra batteries.
Toronto’s climate can present unique challenges for hearing aid maintenance, but with the right care, your devices can remain in excellent condition year-round. By protecting your hearing aids in Toronto from moisture, avoiding extreme temperature changes, and following regular cleaning routines, you can ensure they continue to provide clear, reliable sound in any weather.

"USED ANOTHER'S AUTO AND SO IS GUILTY OF THEFT," Toronto Star. June 5, 1912. Page 15. --- Norman V. Garrett Was Brought to Court by J. Nicholson and Fined. --- That the use of another man's auto constitutes a theft was the decision of Magistrate Denison, when Norman V. Garrett, of the Sorauren avenue garage, was brought to court by James Nicholson, whose auto was kept in the other's storage. Nicholson explained to the court that he suspected his car was being used, so he used the cyclometer as a trap.
"On Saturday night," he said, "the machine registered 241 miles, on Monday morning it stood at 283. and I hadn't used it, so I put the police on his track. He was caught on the road."
Garrett offered the defence that the car had been taken out on an emergency case. and that he believed the owner would not care, as he had often allowed him favors.
"He's heen taking it out right along." the owner suggested.
"It's theft. anyway." the magistrate concluded. "but it will be a fine of $20 or twenty days"
