Jim Holden Appreciation Week: Day 6 | Favorite Fanworks

I’m still working on my Day 5 set so I thought I’d pause to throw around some positivity to two of my fellow Holden content creators: @cachekakusu / @laviecammecicammeca and @captainnagata .

Cam and I have been tag teaming and tag screaming for quite a while now. She’s one of our consistent gif makers, namely for Holden, Naomi, and Nolden. So you can see why we gravitated towards each other. She, like so many of us, has struggled with the coloring and lighting of this space jam to bring us some of the best gifsets and jokes we’ve got. It was a no brainer to choose the gif I chose for her, since that was one of the most fun times we had together, talking about this scene. 

Cam is fun and positive and hard working. She’s been on a bit of a hiatus in recent months working hard, and as much as I miss her sometimes I super admire her for making the decisions she did. I can’t wait for season three to roll on up so we can see more of her talent and work and hilarious jokes at Holden’s expense.

Morgane is one of the James R. Holden Defense Squad team members like me. She’s always been a supporter of bi!Holden, always ready to jump in when people question Holden’s trauma and pain and emotionality. And THOSE FUCKING GIFSETS LIKE DAMN. That “sorry, universe” one still gets me staring every time. I love that thing. Like I mentioned before, dealing with the lighting and coloring of this show isn’t easy. But like Cam, Morgane makes it look like child’s play. And they’re some of the most beautiful and creative gifsets we have.

In addition, Morgane is one of our fanfic writers! She’s got the cutest and most creative ideas, and I’ve loved every snippet she’s sent me. She’s got a great grasp of the characters we love, and does an amazing job of tying all these book details into her modern AUs. Her Nolden fics are always emotional and beautiful and I loved reading every one that popped up in the tags. I can’t wait for more! I love them!!!!! That AU where Holden is a mess of a teacher like please gal please. Gimme. 

I love these two ladies and I hope hope hope we get more crazy good content from them soon!

captainnagata: I feel like it's going to be different on the show and Rosaline is actually going to witness The Fight TM, know from the get go he's innocent and follow him immediately

so book spoilers!

so i was discussing this with a friend and while it’s definitely very likely they’re gonna take the “Ros sees the fight and what happens so she Knows”

i’m personally hoping we’re getting something to the effect of:

guy picks fight with Ben while Ros is with him

guy attacks, Ben tells Ros to run

Ros leaves for long enough for Masked Man to come, kill guy, and get into fight with Ben (in the promo, you can see the dead guy on the ground during Ben’s fight with Masked Man)

Masked Man somehow gets away, frames Ben

so either Ros comes back and sees Ben looking guilty or else she gets away and finds out later

bc those stills seem very likely to be when Escalus is telling everyone about what happened/confronting Ros about it

whichever way i’m really hoping we then see Ben come up to her balcony and ask for help (bc we need this balcony scene???)

and that’s probably the end of the ep

bc it’s very important to me that Ros has her Blind Trust moment and chooses to go with him bc she TRUSTS him on blind faith

but in any case, Ros is still gonna pick Ben over everyone else and thats lit

everything was so predictable from beginning to end that I seriously got bored halfway through it tbh

YEAH, RIGHT??? i mean, i read the spoilers for the rest of the season, so I knew what will happen, but still it was just ???? I MEAN WE COULDVE HAD LIKE A THOUSAND DIFFERENT SCENARIOS AND SCENES WITHOUT THE WORST FUCKING SUBPLOT EVER ABOUT STARK SISTERS BEING SUSPICITIOUS AND UNTRUSTWORTHY OF EACH OTHER (like i didnt expect flowers and sunshine, but still them being basically seconds away from trying to kill the other one makes me wanna scream)

the dragon killing and then reviving as a dead white walker-dragon??? 

the trying to show some kind of romantic scene between jon/dany???

i mean if this was an anime i would even call it a filler episode because it was complete nonsense and i liked about five minutes out of the whole thing. 

(also gendry is still there, so that´s a small plus, but really small one)

I know this has become a sensitive subject, but I'm bothered by the way Holden has been represented in the show. they made Holden unlikable. They took my favorite book char. and made him an asshole and then tweeted like they are confused about why people don't like him? Because they should have Known how they were writing him and now they're mad?

The majority of fans don't like Holden, I don't like show Holden, it's not us that's wrong, it's them, and I'm forever bitter about what they did. I know I'm venting, but I feel like we're not even allowed to talk about it without people getting defensive and angry. And I'm angry. I hoped season 2 would change things, but I'm not even looking forward to season 3 anymore.

I mean, you’re not wrong. Not completely, anyway. The writing has largely failed Holden, mostly in regard to his PTSD, and not balancing him enough. I’m not sure if the writers just expected viewers to take to him, and didn’t think they needed to work in the same nuances they worked into Amos, or if it was deliberate, and they wanted people to dislike him. While I used to think it was deliberate, the recent tweet has me thinking otherwise. Either way, waiting until s3, or, I guess, the last episode of s2, to start showing us the ‘real Holden’ is an incredibly long time, and audiences are generally not very forgiving, so I’m not sure what the writers were thinking. That said, we did get a glimpse of who Holden is, and going off the tweet again, I think they’ll be focusing on that guy in s3, and that guy is probably going to be more of what we got in the books, so I would recommend sticking it out. But by and large, if you didn’t come from the books - and you shouldn’t be expected to - you’re probably not going to like Holden. A fact that’s repeatedly shown if you’re in the tags. 

All this said, I’m really not the best person to discuss Holden with. He’s not exactly someone I tend to focus on, and folks like @rociposse or @captainnagata can probably sympathize more, and will likely have a lot more to say about it than I will.
