I would absolutely adore an ultramarine who is flexible with the rules, capable of being lighthearted. Shonen protagonist vibes pretty please :3

Timeline of the 41st Millennium: 010.999.M41
On Thracia, Idaeus, Captain of the Ultramarines' Fourth Company, passes his captaincy to Uriel Ventris before sacrificing himself in the Taking of Bridge Two-Four, denying a flanking route to the Night Lords before the final Imperial offensive.

I guess the 4th will get new toys
Captain Uriel Ventris:
Now in complete Blade Guard Gear, combined with the sword he forged himself after the destruction of former Captain Idaeus’ blade.
Chaplain Judd Clausel:
He haven’t changed after crossing the rubicon. Still cares little for talk, and has reprimanded members of the Ecclesiarchy for discussing theology during meetings, and threatened Planetary Governors when they are slow to act.
Ancient Peleus:
He was the Standard Bearer of the 4th Company of the Ultramarines Space Marine Chapter during the last years of the 41st Millennium. He had held this position for 30 Terran years and continues to do so.
Veteran Sergeant Pasanius Lysane:
Before his induction into the Space Marines, Pasanius was already a towering youth, and as an Ultramarine, his physique was so massive that his Power Armour had to incorporate salvaged pieces of Tactical Dreadnought Armour to fit his frame. His primary weapon was a Heavy Flamer. So it was only logical to give him and the Firebrands access to Gravis Pattern and Melta weaponry.
Company Champion Petronius Nero:
As an exceptional close combat specialist, Nero first distinguished himself during the Second Battle of Pavonis as part of a raiding party infiltrating the T'au headquarters camp. Nero survived the collapse of the cavern engineered by the Warsmith Honsou, though he was grieved when his custom-made Power Sword was broken by the rockfall. As part of Ventris' Command Squad, Nero joined the defence of Calth from the invasion of the Bloodborn in 999.M41. He now serves as Blade Guard on Ventris’ side.

Random 40k Headcanons (mostly about the Ultramarine books)
Pasanius whittles in his spare time. His favorite things to whittle are things found in nature (trees, mountains, etc). He often does his whittling without really thinking about it, it’s more or less a activity to busy his hands.
Uriel actually tried whittling once. He tried to follow his friend’s example and just let his hands carve. When Uriel had finished he looked at the small figure and realized he had carved a children’s toy. He threw it away. Uriel never tried whittling again.
Uriel is a faster runner than Pasanius, but Pasanius has better endurance.
The overall accent of the Baal system is basically an Australian accent (c'mon it’s a system where everything is trying to kill you!), also I just really like the thought of these space vampires running around with Australian accents.
Captain Idaeus actually became a neophyte at a (slightly) older age, this allowed him to retain more of his individual will and personality which later allowed him to think outside the bounds of the Codex.
Idaeus’ will/individuality/humanity/whatever is actually a kind of spiritual (warp?)…virus I guess? Like basically I think that due to his emotional closeness to Idaeus, Uriel was able to retain his humanity and personality. This also explains why Pasanius is also not as rigid as your average Smurf, because of his contact and emotional bond with Uriel.
Uriel hates sweets, but Pasanius would snap a Norn Queen in half barehanded to get to any kind of dessert.
After the shit show that was the demon train in Dead Sky, Black Sun; Uriel now occasionally wakes up crying. He is deeply ashamed of this. He tells no one and no one knows.
Rafen loves to vape and praise the Emperor.

Tumblr brought Idaeus here and I`m happy again
Maybe time to share old Idaeus/Ventris sketch and fresh kinktober piece with unexpected captain romance
This is the story about me creating weird ships
I shipped captain Idaeus with captain Kadai (infamous salamanders third chapter). Just because I think Lucius and Ko`tan are close in spirits and could be old friends (with benefits)

My tablet is doing things as always, but I couldnt wait for him and just did it with a pencil. Same story - hot ref and ship that makes me weak every time. Uriel Ventris and Captain Idaeus this time I`m pretty sure that Graham McNeil made it really obvious. It was enough to read "The death of Uriel Ventris" (the novel that I call "Uriel Ventris meets his exes")

Things that make me lose my shit:
GW trying to retcon the book “Consequences” and saying that the Captain of the second company is Pytheas.
Why? It doesn't make any sense. Everyone knows that Sicarius is the captain by that time. Let Sicarius stay the villain of that story.
The fact that he is salty isn't surprising, he was Idaeus champion for years. His job was to keep him alive and as soon as he left Uriel Ventris got him killed.
Also he arrests Uriel reinforced by terminators. The second company doesn't have any terminators which makes the scene where Uriel thanks him for letting him finish his prayers more impactful. He would have to tell Agemman’s Terminators to take a chill pill.
And that makes Agemman trying to be nice to Uriel in the dungeons even more hypocritical.
It is a political game between Sicarius and Agemman going on in the background of several books and you are pissing all that away.
Pytheas IS Sicarius.

Do you like sad Uriel? Cause I like sad Uriel
((It’s like 1:30 am and I’m on mobile but this idea has been bopping about in my head all day))
It was Pasanius who began it.
He told Uriel that it helped him focus, allowed his hands to act while his mind contemplated. That the intricately carved miniature of The Fortress of Hera was merely a by product.
Uriel marveled at the small collection of wooden scenes and figures within his oldest friend’s otherwise spartan quarters. Each figure held a spark of life or beauty. Here Uriel could almost hear the wind in the leaves of a small tree, carved from a pale wood. There he could feel the carver’s reverence in a plain but masterful aquillia.
“This is nothing my friend. It merely clears my mind as much as others find that nature or attending a service clears theirs” Pasanius grins.
Uriel asks Pasanius to teach him, and of course the large astartes does. Uriel hopes Pasanius can’t see how much he needs to have at least a moment where his mind is unburdened.
Only a few days later Uriel is seated within his chambers, a small (too small for his hands) carving tool. He takes a breath and tries to clear his mind.
Uriel feels his hands begin working the wood, so dark that he was reminded of the space between the stars. He tries to think of nothing but fragments come to him unbidden
(Barzano’s last gasping words, Uriel’s first failure as captain.)
(Captain Bannon’s proud face flits through the thoughts as well as the imprint of sorrow.)
(The image of Pavel Leforto’s family, and a traitorous whisper tells him “you’ll never have this.”)
(The alternate realities on the demon train. The voice inside his mind growing stronger: “you’ve ruined it Uriel. You could have had something that was worth saving a dying for! Something tangible to protect, to nurture, to love…)
(Captain Idaeus’ face…Uriel’s first failure and a stain of grief on his soul)
Uriel’s eyes snap open as he cuts his palm on the small tool. ‘My fault’ he thinks.
He looks down at what his hands have made, the shape he has drawn from the once living material.
‘Certainly not as intricate as Pasanius’s work I’ll wager’ he thinks wryly before he realizes what it is. As soon as he does he holds his breath in surprise for a moment. It is a children's toy. There is no other way around it. The facsimile of the human form, small enough for hands much tinier than his own is proof enough of that. Uriel stares at it for a moment. He closes a great fist around the wooden figure and squeezes. He hears cracking and when he opens his hands the wood has split in half, down the crude figure’s face. Uriel stands, feeling as though he has aged another century and disposes of the toy. @pholcidae

Captain Ideaus got sent to a nice farm to live out his last days :)
(ok guys be nice, no one tell them that Idaeus got taken by Night Lords in the end of the book and is probably a nice lampshade by now)
I would absolutely adore an ultramarine who is flexible with the rules, capable of being lighthearted. Shonen protagonist vibes pretty please :3
