This is the last hooded lady picture I’ve done. This is “Apricate”, another one where I played with texture. I’ll be starting series two sometime next year, but I’m really pleased with all of these. It’s been a journey!

Happy Feast Day
Saint John of Capistrano
1386-1456
Feast Day: October 23 (New), March 28 (Trad)
Patronage: Jurist, Military Chaplains
Saint John of Capistrano, a Franciscan friar, and Catholic priest, was born in Italy during turbulent times. He studied and practiced both secular and canon law and was appointed Governor of Perugia. When war broke out he was thrown in prison while working on a peaceful settlement and it was here he had his conversion. With St. James of the Marches, he entered the Franciscans and studied under St. Bernardine of Siena. Famous as a preacher, theologian, and inquisitor, John earned the nickname ’the Soldier Saint’ when he led a crusade to free Belgrade, which had been invaded. He survived the battle, but fell victim to the bubonic plaque on October 23, 1456.
Prints, plaques & holy cards available for purchase. (website)

I have seen multiple posts about the new Zorro show this morning, so I suppose it just started? So, while it is a subject people are talking about:
The very first Zorro book, The Curse of Capistrano, later renamed as The Mark of Zorro, is available for free on Project Gutenberg, and it was genuinely one of my top 2 books of 2022 (it's a tie with the German pirate novel Ein Meer aus Feuer). Genuinely one of the best-paced things I've ever read. 100/10, would absolutely recommend.

Edna Purviance and Charlie Chaplin in San Juan Capistrano, 1916.
San Juan Capistrano (about 90 minutes south of Los Angeles) is a beautiful city full of old Spanish missions and architecture.
Famously known for - Every year around the Day of San Juan (October 23), the famous cliff swallows of San Juan Capistrano swirl into the sky and head back to their wintering grounds in Argentina, 6,000 miles south. And they faithfully return every spring in mid March.
