“Just left for where?” He protests, scowling as his father pushes him towards the table. Breakfast had no chance of holding his interest when Drake had something to do and Damian didn’t. His sense of sibling rivalry applied to all things, and the idea of Drake doing something important made him bristle.

     let my guard down. got distracted. the sentence is never finished out loud, but the words linger in his head nonetheless. damian frowns in annoyance at his own mistake, and refuses to wince at the pain in his side. it’s a display of weakness, and he’s already shown enough of that tonight. no need to add more to the most likely steadily growing list of inadequacies his father sees in him.

     he shoots a venomous glare at the incapacitated man on the ground, the one who had slashed at him. if looks could kill...

     damian stares at the man for a second more, then turns his head back to focus on his father.

It’s not like Fay had MEANT to suddenly start talking to the other, but she’d been drinking and it made the truth slip out. She hadn’t REALLY socialized with other members of their so called ‘team’ The watch tower was so big it had made it easier for her to avoid people, but now she couldn’t escape the guilt.

“Where I come from, it’s different. My people are finally starting to heal from a war that tore their lives apart. I’m not ready to fight again, I don’t want to be here. I’ve seen enough pain and if that makes me selfish than so be it. I just wanna go home, how the fuck do I get back home?!”
