good morning everyone!! heehee, i'm probably going back to sleep for a lil while--between miss bryony's family visiting, everything that happened yesterday, and the big group convo i had with caoimhe and her friends and mine, i'm still kind of pooped out
but, i guess i can say it now--i'm actually going to be assigned to go to culai for my next assignment. they're gonna be pretty flexible about the start date at least, because i don't wanna leave miss bryony alone until there's someone else here, but i can't help but be a bit excited!!
...
though...honestly, i am still thinking about yesterday a lot.
the last time i got that angry about something, it was after mom and dad left and i...wound up destroying a good portion of the stuff left in the house. i don't even really remember doing so; i just remember realizing it happened, and then coming back too and the house was in shambles.
i never usually do anger like that. i can have a bit of a temper sometimes, but to an explosive extent like that...it still scares me a bit. everything about yesterday is scary to think about for too long.
...i'm sure i'll be fine with time. but even now, i'm so worried what could've happened if lulu hadn't pulled me off, or if something worse had happened to miss bryony...

Actually it's because Timbuktu was a centre for the scholarly, holding many important centres for education prior to French colonisation, and is generally considered in African cultures (specifically West African) in the same way we Europeans would consider Athens.
It was also written about extensively by Leo Africanus, and many of his reports were purposefully misinterpreted, with many outright ignoring any of his descriptions of the area as just, pretty normal. This, linked with the discovery that Timbuktu didnt hold the immaculate treasures believed to be there by Europeans, caused a shift in perception with Timbukto instead revered for its mystery rather than great wealth.
Timbuktu as a great faraway and mysterious land became a part of the cultural lexicon centuries ago, and has just remained a metaphor for anywhere far away ever since.
So reducing it down to "name sounds weird" is pretty reductive of the actual genuine importance of the area, particularly its cultural and educational relevance at its peak, and the colonial project reducing it so much in stature that many white people dont actually believe the place is real.
Timbuktu is one of those places a lot of people have heard of and referenced to in conversation, but don’t really know why it’s famous in the first place

I haven't seen the data so I'm just pissing in the wind on this but if excitement is up across the board and you're releasing consistently more and more products thats not super statistically important right? Naturally if you release enough stuff then enough people will be excited about it, but anecdotally from myself and other people I've seen speak and spoken to, people might be feeling a 2/5 on the excitement for 3 products instead of when they used to have that 5/5 for one product.
Yknow it's more excitement but there isnt a lot of time for things to resonate because people are constantly being pushed to the next thing. I kind of assume that's why so few planes in the last few years have done well enough to justify a potential return.
Has there been concern voiced that the amount of magic products being announced and released makes it hard to really feel excited for any of them? Like now we're getting standard sets, commander decks, a supplemental set, universes beyond stuff, and countless secret lairs, and it makes it hard to be excited about any of them in specific.
We have metrics to measure player excitement (like monitoring certain traits on social media) and the metrics are up. Objectively speaking, excitement is up.
That said, I respect that the volume of products might be causing a decline in excitement for some players, yourself included. It’s tricky to handle as different players respond very differently to the same action on our part.
Given the current volume of product, is there anything we can do differently that would help with your excitement?

But we can take this a step further. You see big sadness is fine but it's not particularly impacrful, especially if you think of it in direct translations. You could say something like "Tá brón an domhain orm" which translates to "The sadness of the world is on me" which I feel packs a more weighty punch in your prose as Gaeilge.
so the irish term for depression is “an mór-bhrón” which directly translates to “the big sad” and that right there is the mood of this fine winter lads
