i hate it so much when ppl describe hannibal (novel) as the antithesis to everything feminist done in sotl. YES there are misogynistic elements of hannibal 2001. of course. im not disputing that (theyre certainly there in sotl too LMFAO). but it's honestly not as misogynistic as people paint it out to be. people just wanted clarice to be a cop forever but the thing about it is that clarice and hannibal's story (as well as hannibal and will's in nbc) is a dark romance. clarice loves him and he loves her!!! hannibal empowers her by reminding her that the bureau doesn't see her as a person they see her as a Woman and they don't Care about her. clarice has given her life to the fbi but they've caged her. DO YOU SEE. hannibal is out in the world living free and clarice is in the confines of the bureau. they have effectively swapped positions!! and hannibal knows how that feels so intimately that he wants to help clarice out of it. the fbi is the antagonist of the story it's so in your face!! sorry you guys wanted copaganda but i personally think the message of "you don't need something external to empower you when the power exists within you" goes hard as fuck. thomas harris didnt mean to but he did accidentally make clarice and hannibal read as an insanely queer m/f relationship
