Book Bellatrix is (part one):

If you haven’t got the guts to finish them then leave them in the courtyard for me.’ When indicating to the snatchers she left unconscious.

Honestly, i dont mind how fans in fics portray her looks ( whether her hair is curly, or wavy, or if she is tall or short, it doesn't matter ), but it does matter how they portray her character/personality, because it is the most important thing about her. She is called " the right hand and most loyal follower of The Dark Lord" for a reason. Voldemort does not have sweet and kind Death Eaters , he wants ruthless, violent and loyal one's , all of these fitting Bellatrix's description throughout the books perfectly, and also since we are mentioning cannon, the ship Bellamort is cannon, which means that Voldemort and Bellatrix had an affair, were possibly even close to being lovers ( and yes there is a difference) , so i don't think that Lord Voldemort would ever been interested in a gullible school girl . In different fics i have read their relationship is basically lust full, and because Bellatrix is beautiful and just there , but i dont think that Voldemort would be interested in a person just because of that . I think it was the way that Bellatrix acted and who she was that attracted him , she was perfection; smart , powerful, pureblood, practically royalty and basically everything he wanted to be since he started attending Hogwarts.

So yes it does matter how someone portraies a character, because their personality is everything and says so much about them . A person who wouldnt have the same personality as Bellatrix Black wouldn't have captured The Dark Lord's attention, and would have never been able to become a Death Eater, let alone one of ( to not say THE MOST ) important ones.

And also i LOVE the idea of her voice being like Maleficent's , it makes her so intimidating and cool .
