What’s something you’re good at versus something you’re bad at? I'm actually pretty good at learning how to read and write in my target languages, all things considered. I still have a long way to go, but I know that if I were to have more self discipline and put in some effort, I'd actually be pretty impressive. On the flip side, I'm not so good with the speaking and hearing part. My pronunciation is often way off and I struggle to hear the different vowel sounds, except in Spanish (Spanish vowels, my beloved).

What’s something you’d like to create content for? You know, I'm not actually sure! My favorite piece of media is Earthbound, but I've never really thought of creating content for it. I always thought Earthbound would work so well as an animated series, so it might be a fun little challenge for myself to write scripts and create story boards for it. I would also love to write Christian fiction, but have not been confident in my ability to do so in a way that is not either cheesy or too worldly.

Opinion on the US's Cogs damn obsession with corn?

don't know what you're talking about specifically but my understanding of US agricultural policy in general is that being a farmer in capitalism sucks and has since colonization and for a long time the US government tried to make it suck less with subsidies which sometimes work (because people get paid predictably regardless of demand and its less like gambling with crops) but sometimes go over really badly (because then too many people grow it and the price per bushel goes down and then government has too much corn) and then a couple times they got rid of all the subsides and related regulations and that REALLY didnt work (because then the price just crashed hard and with nothing to compensate them a bunch of farmers, many of whom were in debt for other farming-related reasons, couldnt get paid and actually had to foreclose their farms, which accelerated the long-standing trend of farms getting foreclosed on and then being bought out by bigger farms that then ended up running INSANE multi million dollar operations, sometimes even on farms in other states where the owners do not live, in communities they do not contribute to) and they had to backpedal on it and then eventually they just started on the current system where you simply pass a farm bill every 10-12 years instead of yearly or biyearly and that way you simply dont have to think about it, and then when it is election time you go stand by a cornfield for a while for tv. it does not fix the huge enormous farms buying out smaller farms problem or any of the complicated related problems but it DOES put it off for longer which is more important.

sometimes also you (USAID for instance) can give the too-much-corn you have from farm subsidies to a foreign country as a 'gift' and say youre just being a helpful little guy, but in the process of doing so undercut the local farmers in that country because they cant compete with free stuff but that's cool because then the foreign country can't really survive as well without US agricultural aid and you can manipulate them to do imperialism better AND you have more demand for the corn which might raise the price per bushel in the US. also sometimes the corn is fed to livestock en masse because the meat is worth more and sometimes its made into gas or high fructose corn syrup, and sometimes the price is so low per bushel that the insurance on the field is worth more than the actual corn.

but. i CANNOT stress enough that the most important thing about corn is that you can stand next to it on tv and if you cant do that, maybe you can stand next to a guy who is around it a lot and say you are helping him.

in my relatively uneducated opinion the most epic way to solve this complex multi-century interdisciplinary push and pull of supply and demand would be to just pay farmers a salary through the state since youre already paying out massive state subsidies for crops you dont need anyway and the farmers are performing a vital service and that way you can guarantee people a consistent salary AND control how much of each thing gets planted so you dont have a massive stockpile at all times AND you reward individual people instead of paying out large amounts of money to whatever massive operation sells the most corn by virtue of being big, but if you dont want to do that then the second best thing is to just pass another mediocre farm bill whos inflexible 10-ish year lifespan makes it impossible for it to respond well to changes in market demand and that way you can just put off making tough decisions and instead stand next to a guy and a cornfield on tv again. which as we have covered is the most important part of american agriculture

Because, the """blue dots""" are major cities. Epicenters of people. Sure there are plenty of red leaning big cities, but the bigger the city, the more blue it leans. Why? Because there's more connectivity between people, less isolation of ideas. AND MORE POC, LGBTQ, AND YOUNG PEOPLE WITH LESS RESTRICTION TO VOTE.

The further out into "country" territory you go, the more marginalised people are isolated, outcast, and have no means of connecting with others that think like they do to make actionable change in their area.

AND, through years DECADES of gerrymandering, Republicans have managed to pocket all of """their""" voters in large swathes. Here, look at these voting districts and tell me it makes sense.

There are also gerrymandered Democrat voting zones, this isn't a party specific problem, see below this ridiculous district from Florida from (I think) a few years ago.

But usually these voting districts are redrawn every few years by the party in power, and in LARGELY RED states, that happens to have been MOSTLY REPUBLICANS. AND these republicans also put LESS polling places in democratic zones, and MORE restrictions on the LARGELY MARGINALISED PEOPLE THAT LIVE THERE.

Republicans make it harder to vote if you are not cishet and white, basically, people more statistically likely to VOTE AGAINST THEM.

We don't live in a """Red country with blue pockets""" on accident. Our current political environment has been shaped by people HELL BENT on trying to stay in power, and will do EVERYTHING BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY TO KEEP IT. If we had internet as a basic utility, robust public transportation, easier voting/polling systems, and STOPPED GERRYMANDERING THE FUCK OUT OF CONGRESSIONAL VOTING DISTRICTS we would ALL OF US live in swing states.

This kind of rhetoric that the above tweet suggest is HARMFUL and DEFEATIST and ultimately does NOTHING BUT BREED HOPELESSNESS. THATS. WHAT. REPUBLICANS. WANT.

You wanna live in a more politically diverse future? DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

VOTE IN YOUR LOCAL/STATE ELECTIONS.

Local and state lawmakers are responsible for more than 80% of the laws that are actually going to affect your life!! These are important places to get groundwork in for lasting change!

Find the good candidate in your local elections! Back them! Support them! Volunteer for them! Do everything you can to make sure they get a seat at the table. If there are no good local candidates?

BE THE GOOD CANDIDATE, RUN FOR LOCAL/STATE OFFICE, use social media to campaign, run out every pair of shoes you own to canvas for votes. Check and see if your district has people who are running unopposed AND RUN AGAINST THEM. You would not BELIEVE how many people run unopposed!

Vote for candidates in favour of a non privatized internet! Vote for candidates against gerrymandering! Do your research and vote for the people who will actually serve your best interests.

AND VOTE IN THE MIDTERMS. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH.

Voting won't fix everything BUT IT IS A PLACE TO START. Strong actionable change starts with one step and we are all SO BROKEN AND DEFEATED we don't believe a regular person could make any kind of office. AND LET ME BE CLEAR, REPUBLICS IN POWER WANT YOU TO BELIEVE YOU CANT DO IT.

OFTEN TIMES LOCAL AND STATE GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS ARENT AS RICH AS THEIR FEDERAL COUNTERPARTS. Do they have more money than the average person in 2022? Yeah, maybe. BUT!!! The internet makes it more and more clear YOU DONT NEED the millions of dollars federal lawmakers have. Hi guys. I'm excited to give this update! For those that dont know....I lost my corporate job 22 months ago and started a window cleaning company overnight in order to pay the bills. Fast forward to today we just closed out a 39k month in October and already have 43k on the books between now and the end of the year. My 400K goal for 2018 is not a done deal but I have a shot at achieving it. I understand it but HATE DOING IT with a passion. I hired an accountant a while back and we now have all of our books in order with the company having a much healthier margin that I estimated. When people were asking what my net margins were I would estimate at 10% or less. With conservative Q4 projections we are looking at a 28% margin for 2018. To be clear on what I'm referring to on the net margin....Total sales - Fixed and variable expenses = Net MarginTHEN capital expenditures come out of that (like trucks and equipment...) Net margin will be going down significantly as we grow in 2019 seeing that I will be bringing on more staff and overhead. It's been so high because I am still in the owner/operator phase even though I have guys doing the cleaning for me. Based off of everything that I have read and the people in my industry that I have spoken to a healthy service company like mine will operate with a 20% net margin. Extremely successful ones can get as high as 25% and others that are still healthy will only be around 12-15%.​As 2019 is approaching I have had the number of $800,000 in my sights with us breaking $1,100,000 in 2020. I have spent the last two weeks working on next years sales and marketing projections along with expense budgets and necessary capital expenditures. I have found that if I lower my goal to $717,181 I can end the year with the same amount of money in the bank but will have one less vehicle to buy and two less technicians to hire (and a lot less stress along the way). Although I will still have to buy that truck and hire those techs in Q1 of 2020 this path will put me in a much healthier position with cash flow in 2019. The 800K goal has me in a VERY dangerous position in Q1(2019) with absolutely no room for error. I'm not willing to take on that risk for what is essentially a 'pride' issue. So, even though I still have a month to finalize my 2019 goal I'm thinking that $717k is where I'll end up.​On the more personal side of things....This unexpected and unplanned journey has been such a blessing for me in so many ways. It is forcing me to grow as a person making me a better husband and father. My wife and I just celebrated our 21st anniversary (high school sweethearts) yesterday. We are loving this adventure that we are on! Working with my oldest son every day brought some of my BIG ASSHOLE TENDENCIES to the surface which caused some bad times for the two of us early on. This forced me to make the Dr. Phil decision of "Do I want to be right or do I want to be happy". I chose the happy option and have changed the way that I interact with my children as a result. I'm not saying that we didnt have a good relationship before (because we did) but things are much better now and continue to get better. My own self limiting beliefs continue to fall off as each day goes by. His estimated speed was also 3-5 mph. There were no injuries at all, and there was no medical treatment sought. This all happened on April 10th 2011. It was found that driver of the work truck was at fault for inattention. Honestly, this guy was super nice and walked my son through the process of calling police etc til I could get there....Now dealing with the Companies insurance carrier has been a headache!!!! here is the basic timeline....Explorer still drivable....Had to wait 10 days for police report....contacted Company that owned work truck, and they forwarded me to their insurance co....Was advised to seek several estimates, and fax them over....Faxed over estimates to adjuster. All estimates exceeded 5k....Stated she would have to contact an adjuster from local area to work this. Local adjuster came out. Estimated damages to be 3300.00. Insurance Company sent me check for 3300.00 and advised me when vehicle repaired, auto shop would need to work with adjuster on any additional repairs and costs. Explorer was in shop 30 days before finally being totaled. Local adjuster was horrible to work with, did not communicate with body shop, etc. I finally contacted the insurance company, and told them I refused to deal wither contracted adjuster etc. Now that the vehicle has been totaled, they don't want to pay what I think is fair. The insurance company wants to settle for $6928 plus $367 for taxes. Clean retail for the Explorer is $8100. This is for my area. I have been car shopping for 2 days straight. can't find anything comparable with the money they gave me etc. I have taken off work to deal with this etc, been going on for 2 months plus, and Iam worn out with it all...All I want is for my kid to be back in a safe reliable vehicle.
