David Soul, known for playing the iconic detective Kenneth Hutchinson of the duo Starsky and Hutch, has died at the age of 80. The American gossip magazine TMZ broke the news. He was born in Chicago but had English citizenship. In addition to the popular TV series also "Salem's Lot", "Star Trek" and the cult "A 44 Magnum for Inspector Callaghan" alongside Clint Eastwood.
How David Soul died
David Soul died on Thursday in a hospital in London following a battle with cancer. According to what was reported by TMZ, the actor had been suffering from it for some time as well as numerous health problems suffered in old age. In particular, David Soul suffered from chronic bronchopneumonia, due to more than 50 years as an avid smoker: "he smoked three packs of cigarettes a day", says the newspaper.
The career of David Soul
David Soul became an absolute pop icon in the 70s thanks to Starsky and Hutch. He was the blond-haired, icy-eyed detective next to Detective Dave Starsky, played by Paul Michael Glaser. David Soul appeared in all 92 episodes of the series, spanning a four-season span from 1975 to 1979 and also directing some episodes. Other popular shows also include "Salem's Lot", the first miniseries based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King and directed by Tobe Hopper in which he played the protagonist Ben Mears and which in Italy was released with the title "The Last Days of Salem ", merged into a single 112-minute version. Before his great popularity with the series, he had gained recognition in the role of Agent Davis in the film A 44 Magnum for Inspector Callaghan. David Soul had also established himself as a singer by releasing five studio albums and seven collections between 1976 and 2020

The Struggle to Save Lives Inside Gaza’s Hospitals
Photograph by Ahmad Salem—Bloomberg/Getty Images
— BY Sanya Mansoor | November 6, 2023 | Time
Within minutes of the Oct. 31 Israeli attack on the Jabalia refugee camp in Gaza, the victims began flooding the Indonesian Hospital a mile away. Dr. Marwan Sultan, the hospital’s medical director, says that most of the injured and dead were women and children. Some had deep burns, serious head injuries, or missing limbs, Sultan told TIME four hours after the attack. There are only 16 intensive-care beds in the hospital, which was running dangerously low on fuel, threatening the lives of his patients. If the electricity goes, says Sultan, “they will die. They will die.”
The conditions for medical care in Gaza are deteriorating across the besieged 140-sq.-mi. coastal strip. Surgeons are operating by flashlight and rationing water, anesthesia, and the generator fuel needed to perform surgeries, provide electricity for incubators, and care for kidney-dialysis patients, doctors and health organizations tell TIME. The roughly two dozen hospitals still operating in Gaza are absorbing the patients of the 12 that have closed because of a lack of supplies and the ongoing bombing, says the World Health Organization (WHO). “Medical teams are on their knees,” says Hisham Mhanna, spokesperson for the International Committee of the Red Cross in Gaza.

All war zones are awful, but Gaza presents a unique hell. Much of the enclave of 2 million is now a battlefield, with civilians and combatants intermixed, and homes and businesses sitting side by side with military infrastructure. Nowhere is that reality felt more keenly than at the territory’s hospitals, which have simultaneously become safe havens and potential targets, and where the impact of Israel’s offensive is measured every day in lives—more than 9,000 killed as of Nov. 2, including 135 medical personnel, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
After the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks that killed more than 1,400 people in Israel and started the war, the Israeli military began a massive bombing campaign. On Oct. 13, it ordered civilians to depart the northern part of the strip for the south, and on Oct. 27 it sent in ground troops and armored vehicles. Hamas has fought back above and below ground, from a network of concrete tunnels extending hundreds of miles.
For the estimated 1 million people displaced by fighting, the search for shelter has brought many to makeshift tent cities. More than 50,000 are packed into the Al-Shifa hospital complex in northern Gaza, says Dr. Ghassan Abu-Sittah, a surgeon. Mattresses line the floor, kids run around, and a stench hangs in the air. So many people in such a small space, with inadequate access to hygiene and sanitation, will lead to an outbreak of infectious diseases, Abu-Sittah worries. Hospitals are struggling to dispose of dead bodies, which pose their own health hazards. Abu-Sittah has been going to a corner store to buy bottles of vinegar and laundry detergent to clean wounds. “Every day you make more and more compromises,” he says.

Some two dozen hospitals have been asked to evacuate to the south, according to the WHO, which says doing so would risk patients’ lives. When Israeli government officials called Al-Awda hospital and told its manager, Dr. Ahmed Mhanna, to evacuate staff and patients, “I refused, of course,” he says. “Where can I deal with my patients?”
Doctors worry that their facilities will be hit in the bombardment. On Oct. 30, an Israeli airstrike damaged part of Gaza’s only cancer hospital, the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital, says its director, Dr. Sobhi Skeik. “My message is please don’t kill cancer patients,” Skeik says. On Nov. 1, the WHO said that the hospital had shut down.
Days before that, the Israel Defense Forces presented evidence it said showed Hamas had established a command center in and beneath Al-Shifa hospital. A Hamas official denied the allegation. Targeting a hospital would be a war crime, whether or not Hamas is using it to hide in, says Susan Akram, a law professor who directs Boston University’s International Human Rights Clinic. “Israel has an obligation to protect the entire population in Gaza,” she says. For its part, Israel notes that using a hospital to hide military equipment or facilities is itself a war crime.
Even without a direct attack, the hospitals lack key supplies, which are coming in at a painfully slow pace amid the Israeli siege. On Oct. 31, the U.S. said that 66 trucks of humanitarian aid were entering Gaza daily, a fraction of the hundreds per day before the war. Fuel remains a critical issue. The Israeli military reportedly believes Hamas holds more than 500,000 liters that it could provide to hospitals. The U.S. says it is pressuring Israel to break its blockade and allow aid in. President Biden called Nov. 1 for a humanitarian “pause” in the war, but faces criticism for providing military aid to Israel.
Everyone in Gaza has been affected. “We often focus on the victims of airstrikes,” says Dr. Brenda Kelly, a consultant obstetrician in Oxford, U.K., “but ordinary lives don’t stop. Women still go into labor. They still have miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, preterm births.” Dr. Hatem Edhair, the head of the neonatal intensive-care unit at Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, fears that electricity shutting off will mean the deaths of five babies in his care who are dependent on ventilators. “If there is no electricity,” he says, “it means the end of their life.”
Al-Awda hospital’s Mhanna, speaking by phone Oct. 23 in southern Gaza, seemed unfazed by the sound of a blast during the interview. “We are afraid; we are human beings,” Mhanna says. “But we cannot do anything except continue our mission with our patients.”

Heat Acclimation and a Pedal Partner Visit
This past Sunday myself and a few of my PHAT Tuesday teammates headed out for a 60+ mile training ride. Here in Massachusetts it was a hot and humid Sunday. We rode at a steady pace and made sure to stay hydrated. We were only riding just over half the distance of Day 1 of the PMC, so it was good to get acclimated to the heat.
Our route also took us near our 2012 Pedal Partner, Stephen D'Ercole. At age 3 he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (aka ALL), tThe most common type of leukemia in children under 15. He received treatment for 2 years . The first year of his treatment was very extremely difficult. He was initially hospitalized for 35 days. In total, he spent 73 nights the first year at Children's Hospital.
To make a long story short, he is now a healthy college student entering his senior year at Salem State University and over this summer he is a branch manager for a College Painters franchise out of Norton, MA.
It is stories like Stephen's that motivate myself and others on our team to keep riding and raising funds year after year.
There are 24 days to this year's Pan-Mass Challenge and I am almost halfway to my goal of $12,000. July has started off strong with an additional $1,175 rolling in. So if you can, please donate to my ride to support the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Eclipse Notes, April 8th, 2024 This is an update on the previous post on the eclipse.
Personally, I don’t go with all the Biblical prophecies going around about Salem and Ninevah. A lot of these videos may be well intentioned, but just add to the fearporn and as always, best to study it to see. I do not wish to exacerbate that, but that hysteria has been whipped up is not surprising as it is human to seek meaning with dramatic celestial events and full solar eclipses confound and alarm people.
Eclipses also bering awe and wonder so I’d concentrate on that feeling. But the stories can obscure the truth which takes longer study, and a concentrated effort to peel back the layers to unearth its deeper meaning. Remember as Alan Watts said of Zen Buddhist philosophy: the finger pointing to the Moon is not the Moon.
Eclipses are natural astronomical phenomena that happen 4-6 times a year. Perhaps people just have not paid attention to them before? Simply put; the Moon will align in front of the sun blocking its light to the earth for a few minutes. It is a physically observable phenomenon for those in the eclipse path which happens to be the USA. This is great if you are able to see it, and even if there are clouds, you can still feel it. But many parts of the world will not see it, and time differences can be major e.g. I am in Bali at the moment so it will be April 9th before the eclipse is visible in the US as Bali is 14 hours ahead, so why should there be any concern?
The symbolism of a full solar eclipse is another thing, but to pile on meanings that do not belong to it does not help people remain steady and calm. Not all coincidences or names are significant, only some and there is a need to be discerning. There is no need for alarm. We have three more eclipses coming this year and three more total solar eclipses before 2030. April 8th is an opportunity to witness the sun being blacked out by the moon as it aligns with the earth and that must be truly awesome.
But it is true that the higher the visiblity of the eclipse path across countries and cities, the greater the effect. So the USA is under the path and should see some radical changes there not least because it is going through its Pluto return now.
It could affect us all but as the Sun symbolically represents especially those highly visible characters particularly the male leaders. Though people may think otherwise, some of them have been in power far too long, have involvement with corruption, or have not earned their position by a mandate from the people and who also have histories of abuse. The last time Pluto was in Aquarius we had the French Revolution and even Nostradamus predicted loss of heads.
Benjanin Netanyahu (Libra) Currently he has a North Node return at 15° of Aries, opposite his Neptune conjunct South Node. The Eclipse will still be close to that point in his chart. Masses of people in Tel Aviv are calling for his resignation and it is claimed he has been hurried into hospital awaiting a hernia operation.
King Charles (Scorpio) He was coronated on May 6th 2023 when there was a Lunar eclipse the day before, perhaps using that eclipse energy to boost his status? The April 8th eclipse trines his Mars at 20° of Sagittarius and opposes his Venus/Neptune at 14-16° of Libra by a few degrees but that also conjuncts the South node at 15° Libra, opposing the North Node.
Joe Biden ( Scorpio) The eclipse itself for Biden does not have major connections. But it is square to his Jupiter at 25° of Cancer. His Moon in early Taurus is also square to Pluto at the beginning of Aquarius. His Saturn in Gemini is loosely square to the Saturn/Mars conjunction in Pisces.
Emmanuel Macron (Sagittarius) The eclipse is opposite Macron’s natal Pluto in Libra and will soon have a reverse Node conjunction when the Nodes get to 11° of Aries end of June early July 2024.He is currently not very popular among the French and just ask Senegalese what they think of him.
Rishi Sunak (Taurus) The eclipse is a few degress from his natal Moon at 23° of Aries with transiting Mercury being at 24° But his chances as an unelected billionaire prime minister in the coming general election this year are slim.
Klaus Schwab (Aries) Schwab being an Aries has a stellium of planets (Sun/Saturn/Venus/Mercury) in Aries so the current stellium (Sun/Moon/Mercury/Chiron/Venus and the North Node) in Aries is concentrated there, hitting every natal planet and giving him a bumpy ride even though he is out of the news at the moment.
Vladimir Putin ( Libra) With Russian leader, the North Node opposes his Sun in Libra conjunct the South Node and the eclipse lands at the midpoint opposition to his Saturn and Neptune in Libra. He is already in his 5th term as president of Russia despire having so many enemies.
Donald Trump (Gemini) The eclipse actually trines his Moon at 21° Sagittarius aand sextiles his Sun/North Node at 22° of Gemini so that does not look so bad for him. Being resilient comes naturally to Geminis but the ecilpse does oppose his Jupiter at 17 of Libra and the fact that Chiron is right there too is significant as his own Chiron is at 14° of Libra opposes conjuncts the South Node and opposes the North Node at 15° of Aries. Chiron could bring vulnerability or healing either way.
Justin Trudeau (Capricorn)
This eclipse is visible in the city where Trudeau was born, Ottowa, and that could signal a stronger effect. It lands on his natal Moon at 17° of Aries and on the North Node at 15 °. This is opposite Uranus at 17° of Libra. He has Chiron in Aries at 9° so has already been through his Chiron return. Whatever you think of him, many inside his own government are actively trying to have him removed and the majority of Canadians cannot forgive him for what he did to the truckers. Neptune will eventually cross his Mars at that ‘endpoint’ degree of 29° of Pisces which should be very interesting as Saturn will also reach that point around his birthday 25th December 2025.
These are all significant placements but you could argue in some cases, not major,so no big deal, but eclipses are tricky and events could go either way – it can also suddenly bring people into power who were unknowns. So we can watch out for that too. Politics- or Poli-tricks as it should be called, is well known for concealing vital information or being ‘economical with the truth’ and using Spin doctors to make what is bad look good and vice versa. Watch the film ‘Wag the Dog’ (1997) to see exactly how that is done.
Perhaps nothing will happen immediately to any of them or it will be some other leaders that disappear out of sight. They may all still appear to be in position, but what may be happening behind the scenes is another thing altogether, and we are not being told and events later in the year will bring about a shift in their status.
In the immortal words of Johnny Rotten at the very last Sex Pistols gig in the US- he said sneeringly ‘Ever feel like you’ve been cheated?’

Saints&Reading: Thursday, December 21, 2023

VENERABLE PATAPIOS OF THEBES (7th.c.)
Saint Patapios was born at Thebes into a pious Christian family. Reaching the age of maturity, he scorned the vanity of this world, and so he went into the Egyptian desert where he became known for his ascetic deeds. Though he wished to live in silence, people began coming to him for advice.
To every tired pilgrim who visited his cell, he offered rest and hospitality, as well as spiritual instructions and profitable counsel for the salvation of one's soul. The Saint's reputation spread quickly, and every day many arrived at his cell in order to hear these beneficial instructions from his lips.
Later, he went to Constantinople, where he had a cell by the city wall, near the Blachernae church. But even here, he soon became known. The infirm started to gather around Patapios, and because he had been granted the gift of healing, he helped all those in need.
Once a certain woman was afflicted by the terrible disease of cancer, and worms came forth from her breasts. Not only did she suffer a great deal of pain in her chest, but throughout her entire body as well. She was in constant pain, and it reached her heart, so that she was near death. The doctors could not help her, and she felt she was wasting her money without obtaining relief. Therefore, she came to Saint Patapios and fell at his feet, begging him to heal her. The worms were devouring her flesh even before she was in the grave, causing her such pain that she longed for death.
The Saint answered, "If you have faith in the Lord, and have no doubt that you shall be healed, then let it be done according to your faith."
Sighing from the depths of her soul, she said, "I believe, O Lord that You know all things which are hidden and unknown, and that You are all-powerful. Therefore, have mercy on me and heal me."
Then the Saint asked the woman to let him see the effects of her distress. When he saw the ravages of the disease, he was struck with awe, saying, "Your affliction is indeed great, and difficult to cure. Go in peace, for you shall not suffer anymore."
As soon as he said this, the woman was healed and went home rejoicing and glorifying God. She told of this miracle everywhere, and praised Saint Patapios.
After a life adorned with virtue and miracles, Saint Patapios fell asleep in the Lord and was buried in the church of Saint John the Baptist.
MARTYR ANTHUSA AT ROME (5th.c.)
The Holy Martyr Anthusa, the wife of a Roman official, was baptized by Saint Ambrose of Milan (December 7). When the city prefect’s wife Sunilda suggested that Saint Anthusa be baptized by an Arian, she refused. So she was committed to the fire, and received the crown of martyrdom.

HEBREWS 7:1-6
1 For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, 2 to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all, first being translated "king of righteousness," and then also king of Salem, meaning "king of peace," 3 without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, remains a priest continually. 4 Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave a tenth of the spoils. 5 And indeed those who are of the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have a commandment to receive tithes from the people according to the law, that is, from their brethren, though they have come from the loins of Abraham; 6 but he whose genealogy is not derived from them received tithes from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises.
LUKE 21:28-33
28 Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near. 29 Then He spoke to them a parable: "Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. 30 When they are already budding, you see and know for yourselves that summer is now near. 31 So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. 32 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all things take place. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

EDITOR: Wonderful news to report: Pat’s Cash and Carry will reopen on Tuesday, March 21. They plan to open Tuesday-Saturday from 11am-4pm. I was so excited to get this wonderful news. Karen’s daughters will resume the duties to continue to serve our community. “Pat’s” has been a community gathering place throughout my whole life. As a little girl in the 1960s, I remember going down there for crickets to go fishing, an ice cream cone, or a can of kerosene for a heater. “Pat’s” was a vital part of existence then, and still is now. “Pat’s” is like going home for a visit. It was back then, and it surely is now. Go visit the girls as they carry the torch of their mother, into another generation, for your family, and for theirs. We miss Karen dearly. But, I know her sweet spirit will be felt and that she is smiling down from her new home in heaven, proud of her girls. LRMartin

A next door neighbor Nellie announced that she was going to have her eyes checked up at Eagles Nest Arts Center. My response, " Nellie, you are wasting your time! Ashton Recalls by Ashton Hester
Here is the second installment of the DAR School memoir: DAR SCHOOL STUDENT FROM 1942-1946 RECALLS EXPERIENCES - (Second Installment). . .Soon after we arrived we were sent to the infirmary to get shots and be tested to see if we had TB. This was done by Dr. Boggs of Greenville and the school nurse who we called Mother Frazier. They were also supposed to draw a vial of blood for other tests, but when they tried to draw my blood they couldn't get any. They tried several times but finally gave up. When Mother Frazier would see me going across the campus she would say, "There goes the girl who hasn't got a drop of blood". . .The first time we went to the dining room to eat, I was about to sit at the first table I came to, but an older girl told me, "You can't sit here, it's reserved." I didn't know what "reserved" meant, and I began to cry. Then this real nice girl told me, "Come here, honey, you can sit at my table." I was so thankful for her. . .That night I became real homesick, and I wrote Mama a letter saying I wanted to return home and asking her to come get me. She wrote back saying I had to stay, because if I left, Mrs. Kirksey would be so disappointed. So I toughed it out and soon got over being homesick. . .All the students called Mr. and Mrs. Cain "Daddy Ralph" and "Mama Lillian." They became our adopted parents. . .Maggie and I were given jobs to do, since the school was allowing us to work instead of having to pay tuition. . .My first job was making uniforms for the students. The uniforms we wore through the week were of medium blue Indian head material, but the Sunday ones were of Navy blue gabardine. We wore them with a white collar. . .I thoroughly enjoyed making uniforms because I had always wanted to sew, but Mama was afraid I would break her sewing machine needle. They were hard to replace during the war. . CONTINUED NEXT WEEK.

It is my solemn duty to report that Chief Petty Officer Jeffery Perrone, US Navy Submarine Service, of Ilion, NY, has joined those on Eternal Patrol and succumbed to the devastating effects of advanced stage neuroendocrine carcinoma. He was 2 weeks shy of his 42nd birthday.
Chief Perrone served on the USS Providence (SSN-719) for two tours as Quartermaster based at SUBASE New London, Groton, CT, the USS Alexandria (SSN-757) as Assistant Navigator (ANAV) based at Naval Base Point Loma, San Diego, CA, and the USS Albany (SSN-753) as ANAV based at NS Norfolk, Norfolk VA. Shore commands included a full tour at Camp Ali Al Salem in Kuwait, NSSC at SUBASE New London, and Submarine Group 10 at SUBASE Kings Bay, GA. Chief Perrone was dedicated to his decades long career in the US Navy and was looking forward to a peaceful retirement, and the remainder of his life that was cruelly stripped away from him.
He was a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, a medieval recreation society where he took on the name of Gieffrei de Toesni, and studied the history and techniques of numismatics and coin making in the Middle Ages. He inspired many to take up the art, and was inspired by others to take to the battlefield. There was no craft he did not excel at.
He is survived by his wife of almost-9 years Angela, his grandmother Arlene, mother Carol, sisters Barbara and Marjorie, nieces Abigail and Mycena, and grand-niece Elizabeth.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to his care teams at Moffitt Cancer Center, and the James A. Haley Veteran’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida, for their outstanding quality of care.
A private memorial will take place on Sunday, March 26th, and a larger Celebration of Life as an Irish Wake will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Chief Perrone’s honor to Moffitt Cancer Center and Semper Fi and America’s Fund. Please write your legislators regarding continual funding of our Veterans Affairs facilities, and demand that they do better in regard to cancer screening and preventative medicine for our active duty servicemembers. Early detection is key.
Rest well, Chief. We have the watch.

TW: death/familial loss, OD/drug use, alcohol abuse, diabetic ketoacidosis, cancer, suicide
below is something I wanted to share and something my therapist thinks I should share. below are my experience with loss, and the inspiration behind that above post.
my step-sib is slowly losing their grandfather to cancer and there is no going back. I made this because they know I have been there and done that time and time again and I wanted to share my experience with loss.
when I was 12, my uncle died in a car accident. the brakes went out on the van he was driving, and there was a car in front of him with a "baby on board" sticker. he swerved to the right and crashed into a tree. that was the first time I ever saw someone I loved dressed and nice colored a different shade inside a casket. I have funerals with open caskets now.
when I was 18, my girlfriend took her own like because no one around her gave her the time of day and only tore her down, her family included. she had me and other friends, but it just wasn't enough. I didn't go to her funeral because it was an open casket, I regret it every day. I love you Salem.
When I was 19-20 (mar 2019 - nov 2020)
I lost five "uncles", two "aunts", my friend, and my baby cousin
two "uncles" were lost to cancer - colon and lung
one uncle had severe pneumonia/potentially covid - he had a cough, and then he was in a medically induced coma and intubated. Technically his cause of death was a thrown clot. Uncle D.
one "uncle" was a cop and was killed by OD w/ fentanyl on "accident" - they closed the investigation...
one "uncle" had a heart attack - he was healthy
one "aunt" dies from 'heart break syndrome' - her husband died a month prior from a heart attack, my "uncle".
one "aunt" was killed by a drunk driver.
my friend had cystic fibrosis, and despite being quarantined in a hospital, she caught covid and passed in her sleep.
-
my uncle d was the ONLY casket I approached, and I regretted it, he thin and it scared me. I only attended three of the funerals, and my college program admin asked that I start bringing in funeral papers because he stopped believing me after the third death.
in 2022 I lost my sperm donor dad to his addiction on my dead step-mom's birthday, lost my uncle e to covid and lung cancer on his birthday which was also my brother e's birthday (he raised my brother..), lost my brother to ketoacidosis and his fear of doctors on July 4th (i approached his casket and it helped because he looked like him), and I lost my grandma... on the day before my birthday when we were due to go out to dinner together.
in 2023 I lost my cat - MY cat, my favorite cat and my whole world and I had to bury her with my bf and my dad at 4AM. she was sick and didn't tell us until it was too late.
---
I failed two quarters in my first year of college (2019) and then covid hit and I dropped out.
I was stuck living at my mom's and has no prospects, and an unbearable fear of leaving my house.
I only kept moving forward because who tf would take care of my dog? I didn't want to though. in March 2020 I tried to take my own life and again in November 2022.
I have been there and I am past it now and as hard as it was to get here, I am so happy I did. I am planning a proposal and shopping for plots of land for our house, I wouldn't have met him if I succeeded. I just reminded myself everyday that I will be happy and I will be okay and life will move forward whether I am here or not , why would I wanna miss that?
I love you - I am sorry it sucks, but you will come out stronger and will be okay.
I don't know who needs to hear this, but
YOU WILL BE OKAY!
I know right now it freaking sucks and everything seems horrible, and you don't want to deal anymore. I really do get it, trust me , I maye not be in your shoes rn but I was in a pretty similar pair two years ago and four years before that.
I can't promise when it will be okay, I can't promise you will be the same person when you come out of this, and I cant promise it wont ever feel like this again, because it probably will
but I can promise it will get better eventually.
drink that water, because future you will need it
take that shower, because future ypu wants you too
and if you dont believe in yourself right now, future you sure as hell does and so do I
you got this

David Ogden Stiers, Major Winchester on ‘M*A*S*H,’ Dies at 75
David Ogden Stiers, left, with Harry Morgan and William Christopher in a scene from “M*A*S*H.
By Anita Gates (04 March 2018)
David Ogden Stiers, the tall, balding, baritone-voiced actor who brought articulate, somewhat snobbish comic dignity to six seasons of the acclaimed television series “M*A*S*H,” died on Saturday at his home in Newport, Ore., a small coastal city southwest of Salem. He was 75.
His death was announced on Twitter by his agent, Mitchell K. Stubbs, who said the cause was bladder cancer.
Mr. Stiers joined the cast of “M*A*S*H” in 1977, when Larry Linville, who had played the pompous and inept Maj. Frank Burns, left the show. The series, a comedy-drama set in a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean War, required a foil for its raucous, irreverent, martini-guzzling leads, Hawkeye Pierce (Alan Alda) and B.J. Hunnicutt (Mike Farrell), and Mr. Stiers’s imperious Maj. Charles Emerson Winchester III seemed to fit the bill.
Winchester’s upper-class Boston priggishness, however, turned out to be balanced by impressive medical skills, a heartfelt appreciation of the arts, real wit and a surprising level of compassionate humanity. Winchester was, unlike Frank Burns, a worthy adversary.
From the beginning, Mr. Stiers said, he felt confident about playing Winchester. “It’s just a matter of isolating the traits” from others in his own personality, he told The Salt Lake Tribune in 1977. But he confessed to one definite difference between himself and his aristocratic character. “Where he wears a smoking jacket to bed,” he suggested, “I often wear nothing but socks.”
The role earned Mr. Stiers two Emmy nominations (in 1981 and 1982). He was nominated a third time, in 1984, for his lead role in “The First Olympics: Athens in 1896,” a dramatic mini-series.
In a statement after his death, Loretta Swit, who played Maj. Margaret (Hot Lips) Houlihan on “M*A*S*H,” called Mr. Stiers “my sweet, dear shy friend,” adding, “Working with him was an adventure.”
Mr. Stiers, right, with Mike Farrell and Alan Alda on the set of “M*A*S*H” in 1980.
David Allen Ogden Stiers was born on Oct. 31, 1942, in Peoria, Ill., the son of Kenneth Stiers and the former Margaret Elizabeth Ogden. The family later moved to Eugene, Ore., where David graduated from high school.
After briefly attending the University of Oregon, he headed to California to pursue an acting career and worked with the Santa Clara Shakespeare Festival in California for seven years. In the late 1960s, he moved to New York to study drama at Juilliard.
There he became a member of John Houseman’s City Center Acting Company, making his Broadway debut with the company in 1973. He appeared in “The Three Sisters,” “The Beggar’s Opera” and three other plays, which ran in repertory.
He continued to appear on the New York stage in the 1970s and returned to Broadway later in his career, playing a beloved wartime general in the 2009-10 holiday run of “Irving Berlin’s White Christmas.”
Mr. Stiers as Reverend Brock in the musical “Tenderloin” at City Center in 2000.
Mr. Stiers had made his film debut with a small role in Jack Nicholson’s counterculture classic “Drive, He Said” (1971). That year, his voice was heard as the announcer in George Lucas’s debut feature film, the dystopian sci-fi drama “THX 1138.”
Voice roles went on to become an important part of Mr. Stiers’s career. He was in the cast of about two dozen Disney animated films, including “Lilo & Stitch” (2002), as the villain Jumba Jookiba, and “Beauty and the Beast” (1991), in which he was the voice of Cogsworth, a strong-willed pendulum clock. That character, often described as “tightly wound” and “ticked off,” suggests to the Beast at one point that he woo his love with “flowers, chocolates, promises you don’t intend to keep.”
Other movie work included roles in “Oh, God!” (1977), “The Man With One Red Shoe” (1985), “The Accidental Tourist” (1988) and four Woody Allen films. (He was a peculiar hypnotist in Mr. Allen’s “The Curse of the Jade Scorpion.”) His last screen appearance was in “The Joneses Unplugged,” a 2017 television movie about technology overload.
Like his “M*A*S*H” character, Mr. Stiers was a devoted fan of classical music. He conducted frequently and was the resident conductor of the Newport Symphony Orchestra (formerly the Yaquina Chamber Orchestra) in Oregon.
He never married. Some reports have suggested that he is survived by a son from an early relationship.
In early 2009, at 66, Mr. Stiers announced that he was gay and “very proud to be so” in a blog interview that was reported by ABC News. His secrecy, he said, had been strictly about the fear that openness about his sexuality might affect his livelihood. Now he regretted that.
“I wish to spend my life’s twilight being just who I am,” he said.
#i've not been able to read it since 2018 and i kinda needed to cry over it again#and sorry to kick off october on a sad note but i wanted this preserved somewhere that wasn't behind a fucking nyt paywall#shoutout to 15ft who always has my back <3#also thanks to finding this again i found a copy of 'tenderloin' cast recording on ebay so maybe i'll upload that later#i mean i'd like to unpack literally everything in this but tbh i just want to present this without comment and just let it be#david ogden stiers#mash#blue's post

BPP addressed the imbalance in the American health system by opening free health clinics in 13 cities. Free medical centers for people offered vaccinations, checkups, cancer screenings, and more in shop windows and caravans. They were run by trained doctors and volunteers. When a black teenager in Winston-Salem, North Carolina died because an ambulance refused to take him to the hospital, the Panthers converted an old hearse into a free ambulance service.

Not Food - Drabble
(I was thinking (as you do) about my characters. Surprise, seen as I haven’t had the time to write with school and a new kitten and such, but I do still think about them and get ideas, so I thought “hey, my miniscule following might want to take a look at my ideas, just write them and post them!” If not to post, then for idea generating right? Yeah.)
IDEA: (So, Oakly and Carmen, my babies. What if they lived in 2022 as roommates? Lets find out~)
ALSO!! FEEL FREE TO REQUEST THINGS LIKE THIS WITH OAKLY AND CARMEN!
~Oakly Lake’s POV~
I rolled over in bed and glared at the alarm clock. 1:52 am. I had a class that day at 9 and I knew that I was gonna hate myself for not being asleep by now. Daisy grumbled at me from her place by my feet as I sat up and stared into the darkness, blinking away tiny colorful stars in my vision at the quick movement.
I slipped out of the warmth of the covers and grumbled like Daisy had when my bare feet met the hardwood of the bedroom. I stumbled in the dark to shove on yesterday’s sweats and tiptoed out into the main room to wander into the kitchen and flick on the cat shaped lamp Rachel had gotten me as a joke present last year. Jokes on her, I actually loved it.
Squinting when my eyes watered at the light, I maneuvered to the electric kettle and winced at the sound of the water streaming out of the sink. I click it on and lean on the counter to close my eyes and listen to it boil.
I jump when something brushes up against legs and look down to see Salem headbutting my calf. I lift her to my shoulders and let her settle in my hood like the werido she is before turning to grab down a ceramic bowl from the sparse collection of dishes we have.
I shuffled over to the cabinet to grab one of the many top-ramen packets I hoarded (Carmen doesn’t like them and says that when I get put in the hospital for a blood clot later in life he’ll laugh in my face) and ripped it open to dump it into the bowl. Picking out the flavoring packet and sprinkling it on top of the dehydrated noodles, I listen as the electric kettle shuts off and wander over to get it.
Just as I’m pouring the boiling water over the noodles another light flicks on and I splash boiling water over my hand. I let out an abrupt yelp and dash for the sink. Thankfully the burn wasn’t really a burn to be worried about since the water already cooled off some, but I still glared at my half-asleep roommate.
He blinks at me sleepily, then at Salem peeking out of my hood, then at my half filled ramen bowl, then at me again. “What are you doing?” He croaks.
I refuse to believe I find his sleepy voice attractive. “Making ramen.” I whisper back.
Carmen blinks at me again. Then glances at the clock, “At 2 am?” His voice is incredulous. I nod. We stare at each other for a long moment then he looks up at Salem again, “with my cat?”
I shrug, “She came to find me.”
He looks down at my bowl, “that’s not food.”
I shrug again, “I know.”
“It’s going to give you cancer.”
“Uh huh.”
“...I’m going back to bed.”
“Good idea.”

BIO.
(Trigger Warnings: cancer tw, death tw, cheating tw)
Victoria grew up in Miami, Florida. She was born into a poor family her parents worked extremely hard to get to where they were. Her father worked his way through the company and finally landed himself a spot as the Vice President. This meant that they had become wealthy over the years. Her early life wasn’t exactly easy but after her dad finally got promoted things were better. This ensured that she could go to school where ever she wanted.
Victoria was popular in school. Your typical popular girl the one who had all the friends but she had never been a big people person. Telling a lot of her friends how it was but they all kept sticking around even though she was a bitch. She had no idea why they stuck around but here she was. Shortly after finishing high school she decided to attend University of Central Florida for her undergrad. Aiming to get accepted in Duke University for law school. Victoria had always been one to talk back and prove her point. Further proving that she would make a great lawyer.
During her time in undergrad she met Christian. Someone that she had became friends with instantly. Victoria still didn’t like people that much she kept to herself mostly and it came by surprise to her when she met Christian. How fast they hit it off. Victoria has a good heart she had always been super sweet to her family and her extremely close friends. She just didn’t always let people in easily. They had been friends throughout undergrad. Victoria always had a thing for him but it never went any further than friends. She slept around a lot to mask the fact that she was having feelings for him. Didn’t matter with who. Men, women anyone she had no preference at the time. When she got into Duke she was more than thrilled. Christian wished her the best of luck and she hasn’t seen him since.
Victoria’s parents were more than proud of her for getting into Duke. She excelled in her classes and that was where she met her husband. Andrew. She fell for him hard. Never looking back. The two got engaged the last year of law school. Deciding to move to Miami because she wanted to be near her family. They got married and were so happy together. Working as lawyers in a big law firm in Miami.
Eight years later she found out she was pregnant. She was excited. She hadn’t ever really thought about kids but she was excited to be a mom. Nervous but excited. They found out it was a girl and were so excited to have a baby. She gave birth to her daughter and they named her Morgan Keller.
Victoria had taken on the role of being a mom perfectly. She had finally opened herself up to people. Letting more people in and kicking ass as a lawyer. Cutting her hours to spent time with her daughter. Then her world fell apart. When Morgan turned 5 she was diagnosed with cancer.
They had done many, many rounds of chemo. Morgan fought hard up until the last minute. Eventually they decided to stop care and let Morgan go peacefully. It was the right move but it didn’t mean it didn’t break Victoria. They did everything with their daughter up until her last minute. Making the most of the time they had with her. The memories. Everything but as it got closer Victoria felt herself breaking more and more.
After her daughter passed she had been completely broken. Turning into another person. Someone she hadn’t recognized before. Becoming a stone cold bitch and not thinking about anyone in her way. The death of her daughter broke her marriage and they got divorced a year later.
Victoria couldn’t take being in Miami anymore and moved to New York. Landing a job at a big law firm and kicking ass the entire time. She talked to her family on the occasion but it still hurt and she didn’t want to think about that pain. After being in the firm for a bit she had come to be in a competition/flirtation with Lydia.
Turning into more than a competition it had become something that led them to getting married on one drunken night. It happened so quickly and Victoria wasn’t sure how she ended up here. She thinks she was just trying to hide her feelings after her daughters death. Overall the marriage and everything was a bad idea. The marriage was a bad idea. They should’ve never done it. They weren’t good for each other it was really just about the sex for the most part. Fighting all the time it was not a good situation.
Then about 8 months ago Christian came back into her life. Needing advice about a few hospitals he worked at. She gave him the advice but quickly realized she had missed him. Well, it led to the two sleeping on and off when he would come visit.
Lydia caught them sleeping together and Victoria felt terrible about it. She should’ve just told her how she felt about the marriage but instead she didn’t say anything. Then she was left divorce papers and Victoria knew she needed to talk to Lydia. Knowing that Christian lived in Salem he encouraged her to come stay with him while she settles her divorce with Lydia. He even helped her get a job with the best law firm in the area.
WANTED CONNECTIONS.
The boyfriend. Need to see his face here.
Siblings! She has a sister.
The ex wife/wife. Would love to see her here.
Co/workers. She’s a stone cold bitch but any co-workers would be cool!
Old friends. She’s super grumpy but I could see her having friends from when she was in Miami and her past.
RANDOM FACTS.
Loves a good drink. Doesn’t care what kind will drink anything.
She has a dog named Killer.
