Another interesting set of characters in relation to my headcanons about Matehood are Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer.

2019 movie Mungoteazer: Are and will always be each other's only official Mates and only pursue sexual relationships outside of Matehood together. You can't have just one, you get both.

General stage Mungoteazer: Mungojerrie is and will always be Rumpleteazer's only official Mate. If Mungojerrie and Demeter are sexually/romantically linked at all, they'll be official Mates. And then that's it. No other sexual or romantic relationships for Mungojerrie or Rumpleteazer.

I don't know how strictly accurate this is, but one of the things I find shocking about watching historical dramas is how many people there are around all the time---according to Madame de... (1953) a well-off French household in the Belle Epoque maintains a workforce of at least 3, and the glittering opera has staff just to open doors. According to Shogun (2024) you can expect a deep bench just to mind your household, and again, people who exist to open doors.

Could people....not open doors in the past? Were doors tricky, before the standardization of hinges? Because otherwise, the wealthy used to pay a whole bunch of people to do it for them in multiple contexts, and I find myself baffled.

regina spektor is a violent zionist, but i don't think it's constructive or honest at all for people to be like "well her art was always bad anyway." some terrible people have made great art. This idea that artists with unsavory morals can't make good art (1) only feeds into some people's mindset that if they dislike something, that MUST mean there is something ideologically wrong with it, and (2) some people then take longer to realize the true colors of their favorite artists because... good artists can't be ethically bad right?? and so they hang on to their faves and pretend they are so righteous and defend their every move when sometimes. sometimes you just gotta accept that your favorite art was made by somebody you don't agree with, and you have to identify how much you are willing to support someone like that and what lines you have that can't be crossed
