ur post about oc fic and reader insert fic made me think about how every time i see a post dragging x reader it's kinda just... thinly veiled misogyny.

like i don't wanna get super deep or whatever but a good chunk of x reader writers (myself included) are just women or people socialized as women that have felt unloved or under appreciated in their lives because of their looks or their personality or their skills in things that women/feminine people are expected to excel in and i think that oc/reader insert stories give women a really important space to make themselves (or a version of themselves) the most desired thing which is something that they often don't experience. it's a space where women can feel comfortable and loved in a world where they're under appreciated and tossed aside because of things out of their control and it drives me up a wall when i see people shitting on these spaces and these works because these are just safe spaces for marginalized people PREDOMINATELY CREATED BY MARGINALIZED PEOPLE!!

omg see the thing that gets me about the occassional x reader/oc drag is that—the call is coming from inside the house LMAO. like, okay maybe original characters in fics aren’t a niche thing, but x reader sure the hell is, so you have to like, know internet culture/fandom to be aware of it let alone to start using it like an insult, you know? and i would argue that fanfic tends to be a hobby that attracts marginalised identities as you say, so like, why are we clowning on ourselves? LOL. it’s like a mathlete bullying the horse girl of their class, like, buddy—we’re both losers!!! get over yourself LMAO.

i think my favourite dig at x reader (specifically) that i’ve ever seen is some rando on tiktok saying it was fanfic for people who were popular in public school—i think it’s so telling of how other fans might view oc/reader content? like, “oh that’s just some straight girl shit, they’re not putting any effort into it/they’re stealing our precious ship boys for their pORN/they’re ruining the canon story by inserting themselves into it”. and idk—part of it is just human nature (we are always going to shit on things we don’t like, that is a fact) and part of it might be fandom/internet culture at large at the moment (the purity aspect/policing) but at the end of the day all we can do is tell them to eat dog shit when they sprout up in our spaces and ignore ‘em.

idk! it drives me bonkers though, because it does feel like these spaces/niches do get targeted unfairly for it—if it’s not for the simple crime of writing a love story with your favourite character, then it’s like… being old and doing it! because god forbid you be over the age of 18 and still enjoy engaging with fiction! don’t you have a mortgage to go pay? like—i never see that attitude (within a fandom space) directed at the grown-ass men and women and gender neutral pals who play like, Dungeons and Dragons. No one (within a fandom space!) tells them they’re weird for forty-hour long campaigns where they fight and fall in love and idk, put dragons in some dungeons or something. no—it’s the blatant love stories that get picked on. the ones written by girls (gender neutral).

romance—and falling in love—is one of the most universal feelings/acts in the world. we want to fall in love with everything! in every world! we wanna—fall in love and be loved by superheroes and the villains they fight and the monsters in the dark and the good guys that rush in with swords and the cute barista at the coffee shop down the road. if other fans wanna get hung up on the fact that a tiny fraction of others want to insert themselves in these incredible worlds and experience everything they want to (having powers; being saved. saving someone else—saving yourself) then that’s their problem lmaoooo. im sorry you can’t have fun and create whimsy for yourself by drawing an oc who wins the sports festival and saves bakugou from being kidnapped—but im built different. 😌 and im gonna have fun while im here.

Fashion Week isn't for the Weak!

What's twice a year and has a bob? That's right, it's fashion week y'all! It's the most hectic time of year for anyone in the fashion industry. From designers, influencers, celebrities, and even people like myself, journalists! This season highlights the fall/winter collections from some of the biggest names in the world, and introduces a few newcomers. Take a stroll down the runway with me as I break down the most memorable moments surrounding Black talent!

First off we have New York, home of Timberland boots and of course my favourite music genre, hip hop. Usually I really love NYFW because some of my favourite designer showcase there, but honestly this season bored me.

Thom Browne had celebrities like Janet Jackson, Queen Latifah, Alton Mason etc dressed head to toe in their brand for the FW24 show.

Along with some gorgeous campaign images all shot by Black photography duo AB+DM (Ahmad Barber and Donté Maurice). I love it when Black creatives are given the opportunity to thrive in their skills on a big platform; their photography is immaculate. Each celebrity was well put together, the styling was perfection.

I very recently learned that Luar was founded by Raul Lopez, a Brooklyn based designer originally from the Dominican Republic. The collection wasn't really my vibe so I'll just be quiet on that subject lol. No shade. In other news, we saw Beyoncé attending his show in support of her nephew Juelz, who debuted on the runway modelling for the brand. Miss Renaissance wore a full silver outfit (of course lol) by Gaurav Gupta. I hated the way it was styled personally, especially with the Luar bag. The handbag felt forced and probably was to some degree, as she was sitting front row as an invited guest that meant she had to wear something from the brand. Her team could have done a better job pairing the accessory with another outfit or choosing a different bag altogether. Also I'm very much over the cowboy hat, but I know she's currently promoting her new country music so I wasn't surprised. I wouldn't call Beyoncé a fashion girlie, but considering she's the biggest star in the world I hope that her glam squad would do a better job. Fix it Jesus.

LaQuan Smith is probably my most anticipated designer from NYFW, but this season I didn't even see his collection on my feed. I had to search for it, which is unusual for me as it's usually posted all over my timeline with everyone gagging and hyperventilating. I then realised why it was barely posted when I finally saw his collection, because it left me feeling uninspired. It wasn't innovative or exciting, just kind of regular and something that's been done before. This is a fabulous gay Black man who usually CLEARS every time, but this season left me confused. Where was the innovation? Where was the hoochie mama flavour? What was the extra razzle dazzle? It was barely there. It felt like an lazy afterthought and I'm even sad to say that about one of my favourite Black designers. If I compare FW24 to his previous collections you will see exactly what I mean. For example the FW22 collection was opulent, sexy, and vibrant. LaQuan is a true innovator who doesn't follow trends, because he sets them hunny! So I'm not sure what happened this season, but I blame Elon Musk. Somehow it's always his fault, don't question me lmao. I just know that my fav can produce better designs, but I won't let this low key mid collection put me off. I guess we all have bad days right? It wasn't ugly by any means, it just kept the hoochie mama flavour and unusual designs to a minimum. And my beloved friend and fashion partner in crime, keeps telling me that it's now a dying theme to make room for quiet luxury, which had me heartbroken. On a nicer note, the music on the runway however was GREAT! I loved that he used “The Player's Club” snippet as the intro, it's such a classic movie and a staple in Black culture. I would listen to that entire mix daily! It was a beautiful blend of Curtis Mayfield, Baby Tate, Nicki Minaj, Sadé, Missy Elliott and more. Plus with a piano performance by Babyface, who sang Two Occasions by The Deele. That was a very nice touch! I'm gonna need LaQuan to put it on Spotify asap so I can pop my puss 😜

While I was sad that I couldn't get an invite to see my favourite London based designers showcase their talent, I was quickly relieved when I saw what went down the runway. I would have sold my left arm to be at some LFW shows this season, but my disappointment followed from NYFW as I felt unimpressed by the usual showstoppers. Despite that, I quickly felt better once I spotted UK grime legend Skepta at the Burberry show wearing a BLOODY GORGEOUS fur teal coat by the brand. Every time I see that man at fashion week or on a red carpet he looks extremely good. I don't think he gets enough credit for his drip and we need to change that.

As I previously mentioned we also occasionally see newcomers during fashion week, and that brings me to introduce Tolu Coker. She's a British Nigerian designer who graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2017, and hasn't taken her foot off the accelerator since! Tolu first showcased her FW19 collection at London fashion week, and she's worked with the likes of Stefflon Don, Burna Boy, Adwoa Aboah and more amazing names.

Her collections are always nothing short of fabulous and full of life. Tolu even had a collab with UGG for the footwear of her FW24 collection, which was definitely a BIG FLEX lol. Making it to Vogue Runway is already a great achievement, but to have a popular loved brand like UGG supporting your collection is very cool. UGG has also been known to collab with Telfar, another incredible Black owned brand. And I'm starting to see a pattern here and I love that for us 🥰

As we move into Milan, the first collection that comes to mind is Diesel. They had all the Black folks walking hunny! It was like a family reunion lol. We saw names like Alton Mason to Leomie Anderson and so many more! And of course everyone was killing it because that's what we do! 💅🏾 The clothes were fun but still practical, which is expected from Diesel. Leomie had on a gorgeous pink and orange number that was oozing with IT GWORL ENERGY. It was overall a great show. I'm a sucker for a fur coat especially if it's an usual colour, and Diesel was nothing short of that. Besides the weird music announcement thingy lol I have no notes.

Gucci finally produced something I liked after years of mediocre BS designs, but I'm still not buying clothing from a racist brand. I think a lot of people have forgotten why the household name was being boycotted some years ago, so here's a quick reminder…

Y'all can still give them your coins if you want to but I'm not a damn EEDIAT fool. You only need to insult me once. Thank you. Next.

It's now time for Paris! Some of you might know the city for their wonderful pastries, but I know it for some of the most popular fashion houses in the world! Supermodel Anok Yai, didn't walk for Mugler despite her recently being chosen as the face for the brand, and I definitely missed her presence! 😭 However our favourite curvy models Precious Lee and Paloma Elsesser did. I wasn't too excited by the outfits they were wearing, it felt like they gave them the safe options. I see this happening far too often with plus size models and it's frankly getting extremely tiring. It's rare to have bigger bodies on the runway at all, but if we do they're completely covered up. Plus size models are barely visible, we only get 1 or maybe 2 if we're lucky on the runway at a time, because yay tokenism! 🥲

Model and gamer, Paris HK said it perfectly. Bigger bodies deserve so much better. I say this at least 10 times a year smh.

Moving onto better news, my other fav Balmain, was brilliant… but I'm never surprised by that. Olivier Rousteing has been the creative director since 2011, and he's a Black French designer who always knows how to bring life back into the runway. His recent custom looks haven't been giving the same energy and I'm not sure why, but his collections are never a disappointment! He puts his foot in that sh** EVERY TIME! His FW24 show was gorgeous, however he could have came a little harder! His core ideas were based on heritage and his hometown, Bordeaux. His take was elegant and giving grown woman, which makes sense because some designs were inspired by his mother's wardrobe too. We saw lots of different ways he incorporated fruits and shells into perfect pieces of walking art. A few designs felt a tad bit unfinished, and I wasn't a fan of him pairing slouchy Chino style trousers with the corsets. However for the most part Olivier absolutely delivered. I liked his bags too which usually go under the radar. There was so much to enjoy with this collection. Olivier is a brilliant designer, and I always look forward to what he brings to fashion week because he rarely ever disappoints!

Off-White also has a Black creative director by the name of Ibrahim Kamara, who is also the Editor-in-Chief of Dazed. I completely loved his collection! Butterflies, pastels, fur, dice, lime green… and everything that makes me happy 😊 it had a New York edge to it and felt like an obvious nod to hip-hop and overall Black culture. It was a nice combination of basketball bags and the matching sneakers, and not to mention the hoochie mama designs, which y'all know that I love! His collection was giving “girly but keep it gangster” and that's definitely a bit of me. At first Ibrahim seemed like he lacked the confidence to really go for it when he debuted his very first collection for Off-White SS23. For those that don't know, he took over as CD when the incredibly talented, Virgil Abloh suddenly passed away in November 2021. Tbh I wasn't moved by Ib’s first collection but since then he's found his footing bit by bit. This season I definitely enjoyed the menswear a lot more than the womenswear unfortunately, which is crazy because the potential was totally there but it seemed like Kamara wanted to keep the girls more edgy. Models like Chanel Iman and Jourdan Dunn were spotted walking in the show, of course they came to f**k sh** up as per usual!

My girlfriend in my head aka Precious Lee, walked for the show wearing a trench coat that completely covered her up 🙃 yet again, why do designers always hire plus size models and cover them in excessive amounts of fabric? It's childish, like grow up! I wanna see her titties bouncing like a basketball on a court. Stop playing with me. It's always the same stupidness and as a plus size baddie myself, it truly jars me. The same thing happened last fw season and it needs to stop.

I want to see girls like Precious Lee wearing sexy bodycon dresses or figure hugging clothes that show off her shape, because that's more realistic. That's how I look when I'm wearing my favourite clothes and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. All bodies deserve to be seen regardless of their proportions. Have you seen her body?!?! Why hire someone as delicious as Precious if they're just gonna drape loads of pointless material to hide her magnificent curves??? Don't piss me off.

On a happier note, Halle Bailey and Willow Smith were spotted in front row. It was a nice moment that everyone seemed excited for, including me! I hope we can see a duo from them one day, because not only do they compliment eachother visually but musically that would be an iconic link up.

So fashion week this season was a bit chaotic as always, but in some ways quite impressive. I must always ask though, when will the day come when we see a Black woman occupying the role of creative director of a huge fashion house??? We've seen Pharrell takeover at Louis Vuitton for menswear and several other Black men are in that chair for Balmain, Off-White etc …so when will Black women get the opportunity? Moschino is one of my favourite brands of all time, but their recent decision to hire another white man has left a bad taste in my mouth. They've never had a Black CD and haven't had a female one in over 20 years! I think it's time for a change. Where's Gabriella KJ at? 👀 Or even the CEO of Black owned luxury fashion brand, Hanifa? It's 2024 and Black women are the ones who are buying fashion items THE MOST, but are leading in the big fashion roles THE LEAST. It burns me to my core y'all. It's hard to love fashion whilst witnessing this sh** to be completely honest with you. The only thing that keeps me smiling is seeing people like Tolu Coker being praised, and seeing more Black models on the runway. A win is still a win! So I will take those wins and skip all the way to the very last topic…

hey morri! i’m kind of the reverse of you where i’ve seen all of c3 (all of it to date i suppose), but none of c2! i am enjoying the overlap the first two campaigns have had with the third, tho i definitely don’t have a ton of context to the second!

tell me more about why you love it so much! what sticks out to you about the style, defining moments, the characters? who’s your favourite if you can pick just one? why were you drawn to that campaign over the other two?

HI ANON!!!!! I'm so glad you came back and gave me a chance to ramble about this silly little show that I love so much.

This is extremely long, so I'm putting it under the cut to spare people's dashes.

So, campaign two is very near and dear to my heart. It's the first campaign I watched (and the only one I've finished), and it's (in part) what got me into dnd in the first place.

I mean, it really is everything I could ever want from a dnd show. The characters are amazing, the plot is excellent, there's the right mix of shenanigans and sincerity. Okay, yes, all of crit role has those things, but c2 knocks it out of the park.

Like, c1 is a bit more of your typical hero's journey. You have these people who start out rather ordinary, and end up rising to extreme heights, saving the world and gaining a lot of power as they do so. These people are also (generally) pretty good and righteous people. Which isn't bad!!!!!!!! I love c1 a lot! (I would kill and die for Vax, which explains why I've been procrastinating finishing, lmao.)

But c2 is more my style when it comes to characters. A bunch of fucked-up misfits who become an extremely dysfunctional but loving family, and semi-accidentally save the world while they're at it. Idk, there's something about the fact that the Mighty Nein don't start out to be heroes, don't intend to be heroes, that really really endears me to them. A fair amount of what they do is for not necessarily self-serving, but personal reasons. They fuck up sometimes, and it's great.

Also, TMN are just so much more chaotic than Vox Machina. I mean, it's to be expected when you have such chaotic characters as Nott and Jester in one party, plus everyone else.

As for defining moments, there's literally too many to list. I could sit here and talk about c2 for hours. But I will say that near the end of Episode 7 was where I well and truly knew that there was no going back, and that my life had been changed. (A lot of good things there, but the Molly+Caleb bit is what did me in, I think.)

Other top faves include (in no particular order) literally the entire pirate arc (but esp the fight on the ship in Darktow and the yuan-ti temple), Yasha's pit fight (I literally wrote a mini essay about it on my personal blog bc it made me so emotional), any time Essek is there (for both feels and laughs), Caduceus's speech in Dinner With The Devil, Jester and Nott fucking up that one temple (just because it made me laugh so hard I stopped making noise for like 10 minutes straight), any time Beau and Caleb interact, THE FIRST TIME THEY SEE THE NEIN-SIDED TOWER, the Lucien/Jester tarot reading, the Lucien fight (all stages of it), Fjord throwing his sword into lava, any of the times they polymorphed large monsters into turtles (giant -> snapping turtle or the turtle on ice), the time they got banned from two libraries in less than 20 minutes...

As you can see, I could go on for hours. And yes, if you're a Liam character fan, Caleb will be your favorite. Caleb is also my favorite critical role character of all time ever, and I'm so obsessed with this man it's unreal. Like, autistic (to me) sad wizard man who loves his cat, has so much trauma, and is played by Liam O'Brien??? Obviously going to be my fave.

As for why I started with c2 over c1, I'm not actually sure. I think it was on the recommendation of some friends and my cousin, because the beginning is more polished than that of c1, and in their opinions it was the best campaign (I'm inclined to agree. No other crit role campaign will ever top it).

I have not watch tlovm yet, but I plan on getting around to it someday. Unfortunately for me, I am very very very very bad at finishing tv shows. It's basically either I finish it at an insanely fast pace (ie all 141 episodes of c2 in ~6 months, or all 38 episodes of Black Sails in just over 2 weeks), or I never finish it at all. Someday I will get my shit together and watch tlovm, though.

Actually, I happen to have a little art wall at my mom's house that is mostly Mighty Nein art. I don't have everyone yet, just Jester, Yasha, Caleb, and Essek, but I'd love to get the full party up there someday. Sadly I don't have any good pictures of it.

But ya see, if WE roll a nat 1... we might decapitate a friend (Im guilty of that one. TWICE.) However! If you roll a nat 20, you get the good luck d100! My friend decapitated a fire elemental once :) And right after, in the next battle, I accidently decapitated her! (We also do homebrew btw! It's a lot of fun) ~💜

oh that’s neat!! My favourite character I’ve ever played, Caldan ((who I could ramble about forever but. I’ll spare you lmao)), was a warlock, & this one time, I & two of my party members, Eve & Andy, were fighting off a horde of werejackels in a desert cave. Andy was a wizard & Eve was hopelessly gay for Andy & also she was a gunslinger, so obviously we were protecting her, right? okay so we were eventually getting overwhelmed by enemies because our DM is a bit of a sadist & had 100+ werejackels in this one section of the cave. Caldan’s raven ((wasn’t actually a raven, he got it because his patron was the Raven Queen, so it was alive but.. not? weird Shadowfell stuff)), Nox, was killed, which gave Caldan advantage on attack rolls against the killer for 24 hours. So I cast eldritch blast twice ((can’t remember why, think it was a lvl thing? been a while since I played warlock))... & roll a nat 1. So I know it’s gonna ricochet & hit Eve, obviously, because Andy was our beloved NPC & Dalton knew we’d go batshit if she died. I then proceed to roll stupid high damage for these TWO eldritch blasts, which hit Eve right in the back of the head. which is really bad, because she takes a lot of pride in her appearance, especially her hair. So I’m like “oh god.. there’re 100+ werejackels, Andy’s in oneshot range, Nox is dead & Eve’s totally dead.” & then I remember,, that Eve basically has barbarian rage x100 due to family magic stuff that I don’t remember the details of anymore. but basically it’s a one-up that makes her a little OP. so. we eventually fought off the werejackels, I don’t remember how ((I think Andy rolled some really good fireballs? +I had good spells & stuff)), so Eve’s wrath was turned completely on me. it was. a little terrifying. Many bullets were shot, a wizard lesbian was terrified out of her mind, our poor party members that we were rescuing from a kidnapping could hear it but not see & were left to assume we were being mauled to death.

Favorite NPC

So my favorite NPC is probably the hardest question to there are so many of them and I love them all, so ill just list a bunch of my favorites

So I created an NPC adventuring party to mirror everyone's characters. I dont remember exactly where the idea came from, but for a party of characters who are mostly NPCs (shady sellsman, mysterious fortuneteller, stripper clown) and morally gray, it would be funny to have an actually good traditional adventuring party to go up to each of their characters. They were just going to show up very occasionally, but my partner cried at me to have them in every arc just somewhere, you also agreed on that, so here we are XD

Sorcha Fiddlecloak is a happy go lucky trickster cleric gnome who is the head of that party. She hates when people don't like her, so she will go out of her way to have them do so. She's a direct foil to Todd, a PC who is a fiendish warlock, capitalist enjoyer, and gnome hater. She currently thinks they are friends, and will continue to annoy him for the foreseeable future.

Palen Nightvale is a werewolf blood hunter who's kinda the bitch (figuratively and literally I guess lmao) of the group. Pulled from an old character sheet of Yikes' when he was a COMPLETELY different character, she now serves as his foil by dealing with acceptance and perception issues. She ask Doesnt Like Him after Yikes messed with her a little after she misspoke on changelings. She has a whole tragic backstory and mission and stuff that the party hasn't learned yet, so I'll keep that for a separate reblog with all the spoilers lol

Roza Vova is the newest addition to that party after our newest member, @sleepyforestbeast , joined with their character, Husk! She literally only got talked to last session, but there's a WHOLE lot surrounding her after Yikes thought she was the person who tried to STEAL HIS SKIN. Thankfully, she isn't, but she's the identical triplet (there's another sister out there in the world lol) of her. The party has some suspicions of her, but that and her tragic backstory will again probably be a separate post to not give you direct spoilers XD

Anzor is the last member of the party, a human paladin of Kelemvor, and I think he narrowly beats Roza in being my favorite of the party (but I love all of them and wanted to talk about them lmao). He's the foil to Azule (the person asking the question's character actually!!), a mysterious fortuneteller and medium who's actually a fraud and also a changeling and also a necromancer. Anzor is probably the character talked to the least, or at least the one who's gotten the least info talked about him other than what you can just see. He has A LOT with him, NONE of which has been revealed in game, and he is probably the best foil imo to one of the characters, and I can't say why that is here, which again, probably going to get that in a separate reblog.

There's a lot more characters I seriously love, but I think my top two outside of the adventuring party are Gleam and Frizzle

Gleam is an elf wizard who is based on the character from the Witchlight campaign. She was given to me by my partner to have as a member of The Eclipse, the traveling circus Yikes is at. I, however, have never read Witchlight, and turned her into an exploited child star who grew up to be a mall goth. Her interactions with Yikes are immaculate, protective of him but ready to insult him at a moment's notice. I think I described it as "annoying kid next door who always annoyed you, but now he's grown up and hot now???" She also keeps having to deal with problems, the most reoccuring one is Kera, a runaway from a town that joined because she's also into the goth aesthetic, and Gleam hates kids. She's great, love her.

Frizzle is a fire genasi warlock, and an NPC from the original mini campaign that kicked off the game. She was a maid at the mansion that everything originally went down at, and for most of the game, kinda in shock and non-functional. She does not do well in extremely stressful situations, especially not in those where her closest friend at the time dies when you weren't in the room and then you get accused of his death. However, after leaving the mansion (which was set on fire) with all of her belongings gone and burned, she's hit the "ok what the fuck do I do with my life". I stumbled onto this character motivation/aspect with her, and I've really been enjoying putting that to different use. She's currently just working as a cook at the Eclipse because she has culinary experience, but she just doesn't know what she wants to do, and that's really interesting to me.

Party Took Me by Surprise

Honestly, half of the Husk has been doing has made me go "ok we're doing this now" in the best way possible XD. It's been a really great exercise in improv and doing things on the fly which I've been getting much better with!!!

Probably the biggest time I've been taken by surprise with the entire party is still just how impressed I was with how you guys did with the original mini-campaign. Many more people were intended to die, but you did a great job keeping everyone together, and only 4 people of the 12 in that house died.

Hi gang I am posting again for the millionth time to talk about Glenn Close.

I don’t have any cool interesting takes rn tbh I just wanna talk about him? So. Rant under the cut.

Like. I do love all the dndads characters a lot. But Glenn is such a strong favourite for me, it’s not even a competition- and I think a lot of that is in his relationship to his son and his whole... ‘problem’? Like- the other dads have pretty easy to describe son problems. But then you get to Glenn and it’s like... how DO you fix this? Starting to set boundaries, talking about your issues, having a heart to heart- those are all pretty simple but meaningful ways the other dads started to help their relationships with their kids.

But... what IS the solution for Glenn...? Really? Glenn doesn’t feel any problem in their relationship, neither does Nick. And there IS a problem but how do you just... solve it without either of them seeing the problem? Get Glenn to confront Morgan’s death maybe...? But how the fuck would that play out...?? How could he connect that to his kid...?? I feel like the reason it’s so hard to get a satisfying arc for Glenn is that,,, there isn’t really an easy and satisfying answer to his shit. And I do respect what Anthony tried to do, and I loved the episodes but,, I don’t think that was it. But I also don’t know if I could do much better?

Like for as critical as I am towards Glenns arc, I can’t really think of another solution. I can’t think of one at all. Glenn is such a good example of the nuances in parental relationships that aren’t as easily picked apart, and I feel like that’s what makes him my favourite. Aside from just being a charismatic bard. And like I’ve seen a lot of Freddie criticism but I also think Freddie plays it SO well. There are scenes where he does shit that straight up sucks- but I feel like almost all of it makes sense within Glenn and his headspace throughout the campaign. I truly believe Glenn isn’t a bad person. I don’t think he’s a great one but he’s not a bad person. I feel like you can find Glenns weird justification for everything he does, y’know...? He’s just complicated. And fuck can you blame him?

I always tend to come back to this but. Glenn didn’t have a good father figure either. He’s not Bill- and he’s trying not to be. He’s succeeding! But you can also tell his relationship with his dad is fucking.. complicated! Which makes sense! Sometimes shitty people are still your family and it’s hard to make heads or tails of that. Glenn is trying to be a dad that his son likes and will think is cool. His dad wasn’t exactly a perfect example of setting boundaries of father son relationships though- and Glenn is going off of his own parents for whatever the fuck. And as far as he’s concerned... his son loves him. Nick loves him and thinks he’s cool.

And the issue is Glenn doesn’t really realize Nick feels such a pressure to be like. Cool all the time? To be a mini him? Because when Glenn calls Nick the coolest kid, to him his kid is just. Automatically the coolest. It doesn’t need to be earned, it’s not a status to keep- its his kid. He thinks everything Nick does is automatically cool. Nick meanwhile takes it as an expectation. He’s trying to be as cool as his dad constantly, and every time he’s told he’s cool he just, wants to keep living up to that. Nicks idea of cool is his dad, and if his dad keeps calling him cool for being like him... y’know. Cycle repeats. They don’t really communicate about this shit, because they are both just. Shitty at seeing it. There are moments where I feel like we see Glenn noticing these things to a minor extent- but I don’t think it reaches him.

They’re really just stuck in that cycle. Now how the fuck are you supposed to fix that in a fun podcast way related to Glenns dad/anchor while y’know. Not taking a million episodes? Idk. This is badly written, and I don’t think it makes sense- I’m bad at character writing shit and it doesn’t help that I have adhd and forget like half the podcast... but I still have a lot of thoughts. Tell us about your D&D character:

okay so I have 3: Suna, Tatsumi and Aria, but I'm gonna talk about Suna and Tatsu (pics in that order, courtesy of this picrew) both of them are from a kimetsu no yaiba/demon slayer inspired campaign (which is currently on a hiatus that has lasted over 6 months, but should return shortly!!)

so, first we have the user of the water breathing technique suna, the girl that was born to be the perfect demon slayer. she's known about the existence of demons ever since she can remember, both of her parent being demon slayers and wanting her to be ready to face the world they live in. she trained all her life to join her parents, her free time being spent with the kid next door (which sets up the best and angstiest childhood friends to lovers storyline ever). she used to be really cheerful and welcoming, and it's only after her parents disappear that she closes herself off, the only 2 people able to get to her being the boy next door (kyojuro rengoku) and her dad's best friend, who took her in and finished her training. throughout the campaign she meets both naru and haru her teammates, developing different relationships with both of them, but caring about them in her own weird way. as time passes their missions start getting more dangerous until the inevitable happens and one of them died, haru, she managed to survive and closed herself once more due to the pain and guilt, pushing yasuhiro (the demon slayer sent to fill haru's place) away and mistreating him. then she lost the love of her life and once again she blamed herself for not being good enough to save those she cares about, so she spends all her time training eventually developing her own fighting style, and sacrificing herself to save both naru and yasuhiro.

then there's tatsumi, the character I created in case suna died. she's the polar opposite of suna. tatsumi didn't learn about the existence of demons until she received a letter from her brother yuuji, in which he apologized for keeping demons a secret from her and their family. determined to find her brother she decided to join the demon slayers. she became a user of the mist breathing technique, learning quickly and soon enough becoming a demon slayer herself, eventually catching the attention of the mist hashira himself, tokito, who took her under his wing so she would eventually become his successor if anything happened to him. due to the trust placed in her she was allowed to go on solo missions, which meant she could secretly look for yuuji. it was only after she came back from a mission that she was informed she would be joining a squad, taking the place of a recently deceased woman, only to find out one of the 2 remaining members had decided to leave the organization, leaving only her and yasuhiro in the team. tbh there's not a lot about tatsumi story wise because of the hiatus, but she's a literal ray of sunshine, doing everything to remain positive and lift the party's mood because she promised herself (and her brother) that she would never stop smiling, no matter how hard things got.

with my bestie (the player behind haru and yasuhiro) we have actually worked on a lot of different AU's for the characters, my personal favorite being the kpop au!! the ship dynamics are amazing !! (+ everyone is alive)

3. [Choose a character] switches classes. What kind of skills would they now have, and how would it affect the game?

man this is such a broad question. i think one of the most interesting answers to this is what would happen if grizzop wasn't a paladin. i think it would be really interesting to see Actual Ranger grizzop - for one thing, he'd be a lot better at tracking. and for another, i would LOVE to see what grizzop would pick as his favored enemy. i feel like undead would have the greatest utility in the game, but humanoid (human) would be a verrrrry interesting character choice (and also have a lot of utility in the game). frankly, tho, seeing the way ben builds characters, i think he probably would have gone for undead, since he would have known his character was bounty hunting a necromancer. i also have to imagine he'd pick urban as his favored terrain, because of the nature of the game they're playing. the biggest drawback to grizzop being a ranger would be the lack of a healer - rangers don't get spells until 4th level, and it's a fairly limited list - there aren't any first level healing spells on it. the party would have had to rely on healing potions, which would have probably been pretty expensive. they would have been a lot more cautious, i think, up until they met azu.

6. What’s a location you can picture perfectly each time it’s brought up? Describe it.

i.... am actually not very good at picturing locations based on descriptions. i think probably my strongest image for a particular location is Newton's study, actually, but a lot of that is because in my head it's very similar to the office of my advisor in college - large desk with a lamp and a little writing pad on it, bookshelves lining either side, a great big window behind the desk with a tiny (probably fake) plant in the windowsill.

7. The campaign is now set in your favourite AU, but the plot has to stay roughly same. How do things play out?

I'M LITERALLY WRITING THE DAEMON AU WRITE NOW ES. HOW MANY TIMES ARE YOU GONNA ASK ME ABOUT THE DAEMON AU WITHOUT ACTUALLY ASKING ME ABOUT IT.

in all seriousness, though, the story doesn't really have to change much, which is kinda the thing i like about daemon aus; i don't actually have to invent any plot lol. the major differences are in character interactions - having daemons means you can play around with levels of intimacy and have the daemons blurt out things their people would never say.

also i have some thoughts about what happens to a daemon when you die in RQG, because it would have to be different from HDM canon for resurrection to be an actually viable option. but i think i'll keep that a secret for now.

8. [Choose a character]. How do you image their appearance and outfits changing throughout the campaign?

lmao i don't. literally, apart from canonical changes like zolf's hair and sasha's scars, i don't actually picture any of them changing much at all throughout the campaign. a lot of this is because i tend to picture characters the way i draw them, and i have a pretty solid "this is what these characters look like" design for the RQG characters.

my one exception to this is i think cel has longer hair at the end of the months-long airship ride than they did when the party met them, but like. their hair is so wild all the time anyway you genuinely couldn't tell unless you took before and after photos.

...actually, now that i think about it, i also have a fairly decent progression for wilde's appearance, but again, that's based 100% on canon appearance changes, i just think he probably grew out the nightmare buzzcut in between damascus and japan. fwiw, i generally draw 18-month-gap wilde with historical oscar wilde's actual short haircut. not that i've drawn a ton of 18-month-gap wilde yet.

lmao i watched the show in real time too, i'm just rewatching through @initiumseries' first watch of the series.

bree was always my favourite housewife, obviously she’s deeply flawed (homophobic, racist, classist) she has the best lines and the best delivery and is extremely funny, i appreciate her execution, like how she can’t just say Danielle, you’re stupid, she has to drag her eloquently 

and when she is straightforward, it’s this

i also respected how she threw a dinner party just to be petty toward susan 

and susan is my least favourite housewife because she’s is annoying and frustrating and grating

like no you’re not adorable, susan, and i know she’s supposed to be but the klutzy-but-charming act was already a lot in season 1 and then got extremely old past that, like even gifs of her piss me off 

and i just don’t find the comedy we’re supposed to get from her to be funny because are you not a grown ass woman, susan? 

and i appreciate that her annoying tendencies get called out more in season 4 but honestly, she probably has the least development out of all of the housewives, julie constantly tells her she’s a shitty mother who didn’t actually parent her because she was too busy being “adorably crazy” and all susan does is stare at her and she is oddly sanctimonious.

and then there really is no ranking between lynette and gabrielle, i kind of feel the same way about them.

gabrielle is like, eh...i can take her or leave her. most of the time,  i don’t find her selfishness and her elitism funny or charming, i mostly just roll my eyes and go, OK gabby, like she is unapologetically her, which i appreciate,, and she isn’t framed in the same way as susan where we’re not necessarily supposed to root for gabby 

which makes it easier to like her more than susan who is framed as lovable and she has a more disturbing backstory than susan that contextualizes her current behaviour in a way that makes me go, OK, but i just find her personality gets kind of exhausting after a while 

and considering that she specifically said she wanted carlos as selfish and greedy and terrible as her, i never feel sorry for her when it comes to their antics (and i know carlos changes when he goes blind and she kind of changes when they have kids), like it’s fucked up that he manipulated you into sleeping with him and recorded you without your consent but you said you wanted him like this so, i mean........

her storyline with victor annoys me more than her early season storylines with carlos, but most of those types of storylines annoy me because what do people think it means to be the spouse of a political figure? like she shouldn’t be surprised when all victor wants to do is campaign.

but that isn’t to say that she doesn’t have her moments because she does 

lynette is like ... i can’t reconcile the fact that she’s supposed to be this hardass, this badass, this force of nature 

and she doesn’t/can’t parent her kids,

 like a mother of four and then five with a dopey absentee husband is going to have a hard time, i get that, but they want it both ways with her and that just has me like, lynette why ARE your kids so terrible? 

and tom is awful, initiumseries and i were talking about how when i watched the show in real time as a teenager i thought he was the best husband on the show because he isn’t as outright as rex was or carlos was with his mistreatment but he’s actually incredibly manipulative and insecure and how lynette always ends up apologizing to him and coddling him and making herself small for him, like i’m really supposed to feel bad because lynette who HAS cancer didn’t ask tom how he felt about her having cancer??

while it’s portrayed as if she can be this steamrolling, overbearing shrew who doesn’t let her sometimes insensitive-but well-meaning and loving husband get a decision in edgewise 

but that isn’t actually their dynamic (tom’s system was stupid, wanting lynette to sleep on throw up is gross, it’s not her fault she’s a better ad exec or that her menu ideas for the pizza place were better and she shouldn’t have to coddle him through HER cancer), however, i said that we see lynette’s steamrolling when it comes to her friends, particularly with bree. like she guilts her into lying to the school about the twins, not caring about bree’s reputation when her children are monsters and then forces bree to give up where the nannies hang out, she expects her friends to just go with her decisions.

So I realise I've been sending a lot of asks that almost always vary in length from Long to Really Long and I'm very sorry if it gets annoying xgjxjg I'll slow down on the asks if it is!

So I'm gonna get in on cn server content screaming because evERYONE IS SO GORGEOUS????? I love them so much they all look so good I'm terrified of what's coming next. We had the exact same observation with Luke on the ground fgkfyi it looks like they're literally in the middle of entering did he just randomly crouch the minute he was in?? Is this something he just does casually? Did he do it in the Manor of Hermes too? I'm making this a habit of his.

Forget all the boys giving mc layers Marius alone could probably shed enough layers to keep mc warm and still remain bundled up. He looks like he's dressed for an expedition to the Arctic while mc looks she's on a day out in town when the weather is kind of cold.

About limited events, it is a lot like ongoing tv shows, I hadn't thought about it like that! Jumbled events really can mess up a story and its progression. I don't think there are words in the English language to describe how I felt when playing through the main story of an otome, having a character threaten to kill the mc very painfully and then opening the ongoing event and seeing said character say heartfelt romantic lines to mc with a kiss scene at the end. It was a very surreal experience and honestly kind of hilarious.

xfjzfhxj poor Artem being put on the spot like that. The team will love Dirt Leaf and their name will be part of the reason why. Vyn will probably incorporate Dirt Leaf into his campaigns and make the rest cry over them somehow. Watch as the backstory behind Dirt Leaf's name is revealed to be one of the saddest things Vyn has ever come up with.

Their backstory is really interesting and I really like how they got their name! And the fanfic. The Fanfic. I'm so tempted to give a piece by piece recount of all the parts I loved but I'm pretty sure that would cause this ask to hit the word limit so I will try to condense it. I'm a sucker for repetition in writing, in music, in film, in Literally Everything. You used repitition Wonderfully in that fic. Everytime I read "tell me something real" it evoked a different emotion in me and tied the story together so well. I knew how it would end and Still I was hoping for a happy ending and my heart broke when it didn't happen. In summary I care Skirmish so much I wish nothing but the best for them.

i mean. god. most things. but if i had to pick one, i guess it'd be, like, the feeling of when something pays off, in general. when players interact with something in a satisfying way or when a storyline comes to fruition, etc. that sweet, sweet catharsis, baby! in close second is npcs. just. all of them lmao.

i mean, it's MORE of an issue that y'all love too many npcs so much that you keep adopting them even though you only have a four-bedroom house. but my answer is, of course, Daro!!! can y'all please go hang out with Daro. (for the people who don't play in this campaign lmao) Daro Marchill is a super cool, very chill, extremely rad halfling rogue wheelchair user. he changed the party's locks one time but otherwise has mostly been really cool in the background. i want y'all to go on a heist with him, please.

i already answered this, yes you miss shit constantly lmao, but i can give a specific example. i spent weeks writing up a whole celestial dictionary with possible meanings for each symbol of the written language, and the first few times i sprinkled celestial into the campaign, i expected someone to try and figure out what they could mean. and no one ever even suggested it lmao. so i...mostly stopped doing that fhkdgdgj

in no particular order whatsoever, I present you some good queer media: ((very minor spoilers for some things))

- black sails! it's a series, 4 seasons, 30 something episodes total, I haven't watched it yet but someone just recommend it to me and it sounds amazing. they're pirates, it's got a lot of queer characters, characters of color, and it deals (really fucking well, from what I heard) with topics of racism, misogyny, cissexism, poverty and how all of these relate and how systems oppress marginalized people and a bunch of other stuff. there's also at least two different poly relationships (a triad and a V). also it's got legit really fucking good writing, like legit legit good.

- the penumbra podcast!! I have listened to this one and it's a fucking masterpiece. it's got two main storylines; the first one (Junoverse) is a noir detective type but it's in Mars in the future (with a non-binary he/him bisexual lady as a main character and it deals (really well) with a lot of mental health issues, mainly depression) and it turns into space pirates in the third season and I think there's only one canon cis/straight person in the whole thing everyone else is queer and the other main storyline (Second Citadel) is more classic fantasy knights and monsters with a lot of questions of morality and "what's really a monster" and a poly relationship (and scaley monsterfuckers) and honestly a lot of queer characters

- Welcome To Night Vale!! I feel like this would be right up your street, honestly. it's a podcast, it follows a radio show from this town, Night Vale, where a lot of really weird supernatural shit happens, and the radio host, Cecil telling us (the town) about what's up. it's really fun and weird, it's not scary at all if that's a concern, it's very explicitly queer (in the very first episode Cecil falls in love with a man and tells the whole town about it) and it depicts a very healthy gay couple and great character development and it's honestly really fun, you get to know a lot of the townfolk and their stories and it's great

- The Adventure Zone! it's an actual play podcast, the McElroy brothers (you may know them?) and their dad play d&d. they just finished their third campaign and are starting the 4th one this week I think. the first campaign is by far my favourite. it starts kinda rough, they're playing dnd for the first time and the story and characters are pretty weak, but by the third or fourth arc you can tell how much they've learnt in the process. the fourth arc is where the story starts picking up and by the end (there's 69 (ha) episodes divided into 8 or 9 arcs) you'll be sobbing your eyes out for the last ten episodes. it's classic dnd fantasy stuff with at least three explicitly queer relationships (one of the main characters is gay and in a relationship) and w at least one explicitly trans character. it was their first time, they tried and did fairly well tbh. the second campaign is shorter, settled in modern real life Kepler, West Virginia where basically cryptids are real and the main three kill monsters in a monster of the week type of thing. (one of the main three is bi and in a queer relationship, there's one nb they/them character). and the third campaign just finished, it's real fun too, three college students of a heroes and villains school, in a (fantasy) world where heroes and villains are like A Thing and The System sucks and the message is basically to overthrow capitalism lmao

I swear I consume more media than just podcast but rn I just can't think of any...

also not exactly queer media but:

- Phineas and Ferb, it's a classic, you probably watched it on TV as a kid (I did) but it merits a rewatch

- Gravity Falls, same thing, I'm still not over how fucking good this show is

- Steve Universe, I know things got heated up in the fandom at some point but I ignored the fuck out of everyone and enjoyed it anyways because it's good

- how to train your dragon, they're all good okay, they are, watch them again

- Big Mouth. you're like 15 right? you can watch big mouth, I highly recommend it, it's really good. it's for some queer characters but they're even the main focus of some episodes/storylines, but it doesn't even matter, the whole series is just really good.

- Megamind, it's probably better than you remember

- also, you're into star trek right? have you watched discovery? I haven't watched s3 yet but it's good

honestly, dead poets society is one of my only personality traits anymore, i find myself drawing parallels to it constantly, for no reason but i love thinking about it. i’ve watched it so many times at this point, it’s,,, concerning. those tests always take me way less time than they give me, and i used to feel really awkward, i remember i took a bio one once, four hours they gave me, 45 minutes in, i was finished, and the moderator didn’t believe me. i aced it too, like the silly little neil kinnie i am. i’ve gotten used to the ‘worse’ side of being a neil kinnie, and honestly, now that my mum isn’t as controlling about everything as she used to be, it’s easier to deal with. i remember once, i’d gotten an 89 in algebra, and she threatened to pull me out of the fall show. that was a neil perry moment if i ever had one lol. the biggest thing these days is just imposter syndrome, imposter syndrome like oh you’re not hispanic enough, but also, you’re not queer enough, nonbinary enough, things like that. It’s exacerbated some days, but i try.

i watched the it movies on my cousin’s hbo,,, i may or may not have used it without her permission since she forgot to log out of my computer, but that’s neither here nor there. i remember having such a hard time taking the first one seriously initially, because of all the new kids on the block jokes, having a mum who was obsessed with them made it hard, especially when i actually got them all- in truth, the only midnight premiere i’ve been able to make was the force awakens, and i had school the next day too. i’m definitely a richie kinnie, and i have the internalised homophobia (only towards myself though) to prove it /hj my waterbottle has both a sticker of neil on it and a sticker of the r + e carving on it. in case there was any doubt about me lmao. stan kin makes sense for you, honestly, i can see it, i can see it.
