Rookanis Accidental Baby Acquisition AU

Zara Renata was about to call Illario "amatus", right? Lover? Wouldn't it be fucked up if they had a child. Like in a back room or office or something and Rook's team and Lucanis found them before they left the Ossuary.

Assuming Zara had real feelings for Illario, maybe she felt bad to had "killed" his beloved cousin and was like "Here. Another of your bloodline to love." Which for blood mages is probably of some significance.

And Illario couldn't bring this bastard Dellamorte home to Caterina. There's too much at stake at the moment. He'll come for them after making himself the First Talon and eliminating the threat of the Crows. His regime was going to align with the Venatori anyway so it's just a waiting game. His claim will be stronger when he reveals an heir with Venatori ties, too.

Except maybe Zara locked their child away before fighting Rook's party- for protection- so Illario had to make the call to leave them behind, intending to return after they'd left, only to find that Rook and company have already come to the rescue.

What does he do? He can't accuse Rook and Lucanis of having his secret Venatori bastard in their possession. He doesn't even know that for certain. Another Venatori could have made the rounds and taken them along to another facility.

He's panicking because his cousin he tried to have assassinated is very much alive, furious about it, and his own infant child is out in the world somewhere lost, possibly in the possession of mages who work for the Blighted gods, and the Crows are bound to find out--!

Meanwhile, Rook and company have a baby now. Even if they can't be 100% sure Illario is the father, they can't just leave this kid at any orphanage. Their mother was Zara Renata, infamous Zenatori blood mage, with no shortage of enemies who could possibly do something terrible blood-magic-fucked-up-style to a baby.

Despite Lucanis absolutely denying Illario's possible paternity, the child is obviously Antivan with big dark brown eyes and the thick wavy hair. Lucanis cannot handle the much more at this point. He was just freed from imprisonment after a year of being tortured and fused with a demon, certain someone in the Crows has betrayed him, he does not sleep, he's so tired. He's a man on the brink. He can just agree that the child is better off with his new employer than a blood mage prison or without protection out in the world.

He does not stay up at night thinking about the familiar features of his cousin brother on a small round face just a few rooms away. He has enough on his mind, Spite! And if he thinking about the baby, it's only because he can't comprehend how a monster like Zara Renata had such an innocent creature in her clutches in that gods-forsaken place.

The team is hesitant on how to even start taking care of a baby, but Rook is into it. They're so cute! And sure babies cry and poop and test one's patience, but it there's anyone who is going to understanding about it, it's going to be the optimistic team leader who made the call to take the child with them in the first place. Rook made that choice and they're going to stand by it. Besides, the child needs someone to be a consistent caretaker right?

While the team helps in the day time, nighttime feedings and diaper changes are mostly Rook's responsibility. And the milk station is in the kitchen where Lucanis just so happens to be most nights.

Reluctant baby bonding with Lucanis every night. Talking in soft tones over the sounds of infant suckling at a warm bottle in Rook's arms. Lucanis offering to burp them over his shoulder, nose buried in their soft hair, Spite quiet for once. Rook sitting next to him and telling he's good at this, taking care of others. Something he's never been allowed to do with Caterina all but caging him within the confines of Crow duty and terror as surely as any mage's prison.

Hands touching as the baby is transferred from one another. Rook catching Lucanis' soft, unguarded smile looking down at the babbling baby, little hands reaching for his face. Lucanis scolding the baby in a playful voice when they tug at his beard and hair. That kind of dexterity will be good for handling kitchen knives later.

Maybe he could teach them to bake? They might make a good kitchen assistant if he starts tutoring them now before the team can pass down bad habits. He tells them never to follow Harding's cooking advice or develop Neve's preference for Tevinter coffee. They will be a good little Antivan chef, yes.

Shared glances over late-night coffee and cioccolata calda and an empty milk bottle. Giving unhelpful advice on how to properly change a cloth diaper, knocking shoulders. Exasperated sighs as they take turns bouncing the crying baby trying to soothe some unknown hurt for hours. Spite's wings fascinating the baby, who stops crying to reach for black feathers that disappear as they brush against their skin. A first kiss shared over a sleepy child cuddled to Lucanis' chest.

Even after accepting the truth, Lucanis can't bring them to Caterina. Can't stomach this child going through the same conditional love and training to be a Crow that he went through, and that will inevitably happen if he, or Illario, come forward about it.

So he makes the decision to lock up Illario just so he can approach him in private to imply that the child has been found and is safe in Rook's hands. Because Lucanis still loves Illario, and Illario does care somewhere deep down about his child's life. Lucanis can't afford to lose the family he's finding for himself now, not even for the family he used to have. It's a tenuous balance.

And in the years to come, if that child lives in a Lighthouse in the Fade, and squeals a delighted papà! as soon as they see Lucanis returning from Treviso. Well. That's Veilguard, not Crow, business.

What's gender affirming care like on hallowed carrion?

Good question, it can be a little wild west out there, even just with regular hospice/holistic care, depending on where you’re at and which species or community you belong to. I’d say on Mors Astra (name of the planet), sexuality and gender expression can be as eclectic and varied as most animals/humans irl….Um, I guess I’m going to info dump about my individual trans characters and their experiences as well as how some of the main species would view it over all and hope that it answers your question. I’ll also be creating other sophont species that could have different views on things so there’s that too.

Also content warning ahead for forms of transphobia and gender dysmorphia topics.

For the Myce I’d say for the most part getting something like a cosmetic change is no biggie to them, as they don’t tend to have strict guidelines for gender expression. It probably wouldn’t go as in depth as it does with mammalians, surgically and medication wise. Their nerves and vessels grow back easier and such. Even their genitalia is strictly geared towards pleasure, like a miniature sexual mycorrhizal network of nerve endings. There’s no sperm or eggs involved. Their genitals may go by human guild lines in terms of appearance, but they can get pretty wild looking. I haven’t quite thought it through entirely just yet but I guess they might have their own form of T and E, if they cosmetically wanted breasts or a more phallic attachment, etc. I feel like they’d go more along the route of genetic expression rather than hormones though. There isn’t really a huge societal rift between who expresses themselves as feminine, masculine, etc. (although there could always be some strange cults and eccentrics out there!) I’d say to them it’s more important that you look conventionally humanoid. If you’re a bloom face (like Heidi), or have a tail/ horns or look more ‘animalistic’ and ‘othered’ for that matter, you’re more likely to face some stigma in certain regions populated by Myce. This derives from early on when the Myce were first coming into being. They were called changelings, ‘faefolk’, fairies, etc, and caused a lot of widespread fear and misconceptions. They associate such terms with being considered monstrous, diseased, etc.

They don’t reproduce like mammals, as they technically aren’t mammals, so luckily for them natal affairs and giving birth aren’t tied to any specific gender and are entirely up to the individuals who want to go that route.

In the case of Vveashuls, I think they’re a little more ‘traditional’ so to speak. (Tbh I think I’ve ended up expressing some deep seated frustrations with what I’m surrounded by everyday in them, oops! No fault of the Vveashuls ofc.)

With Vveashuls, many pockets of them tend to put a lot of value in procreation, having several kids, being able to breastfeed them on your own, etc. One should always put the family first.

In the past, while they lived on Zenith as one species, having litters and as many healthy kits as possible meant their survival. Often times their young would be culled by the Furies in order to keep their numbers down and keep them under control. Mind, not ALL Furies kept Vveashuls in servitude, just certain rooks.

Where they’re out from under the Furies control now, they hold pride in keeping big families, staying together, the next generation raised by the previous, etc.. A lone Vveashul is seen as strange, or that something is wrong with them. In the modern day, this creates a lot of pressures.

In Jago’s case, he grew up in a town of very traditional views; the idea of a Vveashul that can get pregnant getting rid of their breasts or their ability to give birth/ taking hormones was unheard of or seen as a selfish act of self mutilation. Males transitioning to females were seen as ‘useless’ or strange pretenders. Even just starting out, his family was very small, just him and his father.

Jago didn’t even really know what felt ‘off’ about himself until he met Kraw, Titus, Mayv and her crew. Puberty only made it more painfully obvious. Once he was old enough and sure of himself (this was after he and Kraw had parted ways the first time) It was very difficult for him to get any kind of treatment for such things geared towards his kind, even in Ladder occupied cities. He had to go under the table for most of his surgeries and medications, which put him in many dangerous situations. With his primary breasts still intact, he still feels like he’s not where he wants to be. The fact that the last surgeon to remove his secondary ones left him with obvious scars is frustrating as well. The whole process had just exhausted him overall. So he focused more on work.

On top of taking hormones, he would often have to take suppressors (yeah, those.) otherwise he’d go into heat and get all swollen and sensitive (it’s also fairly normal for female Vveashuls to take suppressors lest they deal with going into heat in day to day life, which can be very inconvenient in the modern day.)

He absolutely hates how he gets without the suppressors, as it only adds to his dysmorphia.

He’d occasionally have to deal with his old work mates making fun of him about it. They referred to him as a male, sure, but he still felt like they saw him as playing pretend. They would make comments like “oohh you’re grumpy today, are you off your meds?” Where they were mostly Myce, they didn’t deal with the average hang ups of mammalian sophonts and usually found it strange or funny.

Jago wants to be completely severed from the idea of having and mothering kids, the expectations of female Vveashuls, etc. I’d go as far as to say he’s had legitimate tokophobia his entire life. But he’s feels somewhat apprehensive of further surgeries for the time being, at least until he finds someone trustworthy and experienced. Who knows! He might find one in Marrowtide.

THANKFULLY, where he lives now with Kraw and the others in Marrowtide, he’s in a MUCH more accepting/progressive environment, so I’d say that definitely helps him with the dysmorphia and anxieties of how his body looks. Despite being intimidated by Sylvaine, he gladly take his hormones and suppressors from her, where she also supplies them for Kraw in order to temporarily stave off his occasional ‘rut’ aggression (they’re almost like a birth control). Even other Vveashuls in Marrowtide wouldn’t care that Jago’s gotten surgery. Most of them probably escaped to Marrowtide in order to get away from stifling environments as well.

Disclaimer ofc: I don’t see having kids/ a big family etc as inherently stifling or negative by any means, I’m only referring to harmful beliefs and pressures that may come from growing up in a family with very controlling traditional viewpoints.

In Durja’s case, pockets of Fury cultures vary from rook to rook (‘rook’ being similar to a clan). Most are matriarchal. Durja herself was a sentry and the occasional personal concubine for the ‘Crowned Matron’ at the time (matriarchal leader of the rook). They don’t really perceive being trans, only caring that you are strong and tactical. Though, I’d say if you were looking to transition to female it would be very dangerous, as most of the females would take that as a challenge. In that same way a female transitioning to a male might be seen as weak. Within the Furies species, most of the time the females are bigger, stronger and tend to be more aggressive, even possessing pseudo-penises. They’re also polygamous.

I’d say she’s gotten most of her ideas of what she wants for herself by having watched Sylvaine in relationships for a while, thus deciding she wanted to be loved romantically in such a manner rather than the usual domineering way she had been used to. Taking in the strengths she’d see among the female Furies and she’s got her own image she’s made for how she presents herself.

She hasn’t personally dealt with any type of body dysmorphia and wasn’t interested in taking hormones from Sylvaine despite her offering, deciding she was fine with herself. (In fact, having a noticeable bulge as a female would be seen as desirable among Furies and Sylvaine definitely doesn’t complain).

Anyway, I hope that gives some insight for how it may be in some regions of Mors Astra. I think I just like to imagine animal hierarchies applied to creatures with human intelligence is all idk lol.

GENDER NEUTRAL READER A/N: How adorable anon, sorry for the wait but here ya' go.

Rook was beyond delighted to hear that his lover wanted to learn to use a bow, and that they wanted him to teach them! He would’ve volunteered regardless, but the fact that you, yourself had asked, made him feel all giddy inside. It didn’t take too long before Rook had already made preparations for you and him to start practicing. 

Rook would guide you efficiently, teaching you the movements in which you should move and guide your arms, showing you the proper way to hold a bow and aim it perfectly, fixing up tiny mistakes of your posture, and being proficient and efficient with both time management and skills, he’d make sure everything was easy to learn yet guide you in a way that didn’t feel like he’d have personally dumbed it down, he wanted everything to be simple, yet he never had any intention of upsetting you in the process. 

It wouldn’t take long for you to have garnered enough skills to try and use the bow by yourself without much of Rook’s help, after all practice makes perfect, Rook couldn’t help but praise your abilities and talent, even though you’d remind him constantly that it was his guidance that helped you come so far in terms of skills. But you’d have to admit that you still needed some more help, but for 2 weeks of practice and training alone, it was an amazing progress and hearing your lover's praise was more than worth the effort.

When ortho found his nii-san as a child, a child that is younger than him, he nearly went into overdrive.

Ortho has always been a bit protective of his brother, but he really doesn't know how to take care of a toddler. He tried to search the internet but whatever he did never worked because idia was crying. Loudly.

So he did what he thought best, hand his nii-san over to you. The only responsible person on the campus.

When you saw ortho you enthusiastically waved at the boy, having taken him as younger brother as well, but then you noticed a child with him.

Ortho explained the situation and you were relived that it'll only last for few hours at most.

You take a look at the baby shying away from your gaze, you have to stop yourself from squealing at how cute baby idia is.

He is a smol ball of blue, also very shy.

Idia is a very behaved toddler, only asking you for his game console or snacks in between the sessions.

He tugs at your sleeves asking you to bend so he can whisper in your ear about what kind of snacks he wants.

Not bratty or demanding at all. He is very chill as a baby. Still doesn't likes strangers though.

"Y/n saw me as a baby." He whispers staring at the floor with dead eyes.

Malleus draconia

Malleus turned into a child, you weren't sure how it happened but you found him crying in backyard of your dorm.

Malleus still had his horns, so you had to take care of them while picking him because they are sharp enough to stab you if not careful.

But once you picked him up, he just. Stopped crying. Instead was looking at you with his big green glowy eyes. You almost felt your heart burst.

Malleus, unlike idia, is very bratty and demanding. And he wants all of you attention on him. Because of him you had to drop grim off at heartslabyul, because you can't take care of two arsonist children.

You called Lilia, who was very happy to malleus as a child again, to take him to diasomnia but malleus refused and Lilia might have gotten the other side of his bangs burned.

Malleus really likes your presence and ramshackle and wanted to stay there forever and protect his princess from any bad prince who might try to take you away.

Malleus doesn't like vegetables, he on the other hand loves fries. You will have to coax him eat vegetables or hide them or grind them, for him to eat.

Riddle rosehearts

Riddle is still riddle as a kid.

Still very strict about upholding the Queen of hearts laws.

Ace and deuce were screwing around with a potion for the homework for the alchemy class (it was probably brewed wrong) and next thing they knew they had splashed it all over their dorm leader.

Needless to say both of them were ready for a beheading but when no shouts of anger came they looked down to see mini version of riddle.

So they can to only person they knew would be down to help them. You.

Riddle is such a crybaby. Now, he not only shouts in anger, but he also cries.

Riddle is a very good boy, eats his vegetables, does his homework, and doesn't mess around with the things he knows he shouldn't.

He loves when you read him a story before bed. All about the knights, the princes, the princesses and all those legends about the great seven.

But his favourite will always be the Queen of hearts.

He likes to tell you about her in his baby voice, his eyes shining as he tells you about the women he idolizes.

He still loves tea, though. He will drink milk if you insist, but he still prefers tea.

For stand—

- imagine if Yuu rolls up with a punch ghost (or whatever stand they have— and whether if the people in TWST can see it is up to you) and beats up whoever picks on them.

- Since ghosts do exist in JJBA and can interact with stands as well, imagine stand user! Yuu inflicting actual pain upon the ghosts or even touching them (much to Grim’s surprise and Crowley’s)

- If the TWST cast can’t see stands, it’ll be one hell of an explanation from Yuu.

- *points at stand* “This is a stand, it’s spiritual manifestation of my soul and *sigh* no, it’s not magic— and yes, it’s there. You just can’t see it.”

- Ace: *taunts Yuu, proceeds to get punted by an invisible force*

- If the cast can see the stand, they’re in awe or scared/worried Yuu might “let it loose” somehow.

- It ain’t magic so Riddle can’t just off with Yuu’s head

- Azul would prolly be interested about these stands and inquire Yuu about them (totally not planning to get his hands on one)

- Wait til he finds out about Whitesnake and the Arrow

-Would the arrows even work on the TWST boys???

- Imagine Yuu does have an arrow with them and rEqUieM-

- Floyd attempts to squeeze the stand

- If Yuu had a buff stand like Star Plat/The World/Crazy Diamond, Jack and Epel would be super intrigued (especially if the user and stand shares NO similarity physically but if it’s the image of their soul/fighting spirit, that says something about Yuu).

- *Overblot happens* ゴゴゴ

- As any JJBA character should— of course Yuu would have some funky sense of style (unless they want to live a quiet life) and just poses

- “What are they doing?” “Let them have their moment.” *Yuu poses majestically while the others are concerned if Yuu broke their back*

- Vil would either be somewhat interested in Yuu’s fashion or completely turned away.

- If anyone questioned Unique Magic names, wait til they hear Yuu’s stand name— (assuming it’s the less normal sounding ones like Sex Pistols/Sticky Fingers/Little Feet/Red Hot Chili Pepper or even Ratt)

- Hamon User! Yuu :0

- Lilia spooks or messes with Hamon! Yuu just for fun jdjdjd-

Jusenkyo! Yuu

- Could be any cursed spring of your choosing

- Ace would prolly play around with Yuu’s curse and continuously splashes them with cold water before changing them back

- Others are prolly in awe too- Transforming without the use of magic or potions??

- Jack: I see you can transform as well. Yuu: Not because I want to.

- Not Azul lowkey wanting to employ you to be an attraction/sideshow at the Monstro Lounge

- If Yuu is cursed to be a small animal of some sort, they’d totally nail stealth missions— which makes a lot of tasks and eavesdropping so much easier (What are the chances of coming across hot water in the halls?)

- If Yuu is cursed to be something bigger or predatory, watch out for Rook. (Is it bad I can lowkey see him purposely dumping cold water on Yuu for the sake of “tag” to chase them in their cursed animal form?)

- Ranma! Yuu would be entertaining. Wouldn’t it be funny if Yuu appears as a boy at first during the sorting ceremony (regardless of OG gender) but flips the moment they touch cold/hot water. If originally identifies as a boy, Yuu would touch cold water accidentally. If originally a girl, Yuu’s priority is to get back to their original form by taking a shower, using a sink, or straight up boil water. For a non binary/gender neutral Ranma! Yuu, water just gets on them and they kinda shrug it off. Fate’s fate. (IF they don’t mind either bodies) (Please— The series is from the 80s so not everything will mesh well and ofc sex doesn’t equate to gender)

- For the crazier springs, imagine Yuu falls into Spring of the Drowned Dragon or smth— Malleus gets a new buddy

- Also optional if Yuu even reveals that they’re cursed in the first place

- Chapter 3 would NOT fly well if Yuu’s cursed form isn’t human or an aquatic/amphibian animal. Speaking of which— how would aquatic animals drown?? Like wrecked gills or smth???

- Bs excuse for chapter 3, it’s a sunny day out and the water is warm. End of story.

(I do have actual OCs for both borrowed from their respective fandoms but I guess I’m dragging them here now perhaps I’ll post them one day)
