Do you have any preliminary headcanons for your character going into Dawntrail? If not, have you ever had ideas for your character(s) based on upcoming expansions and how did they morph/change as you played through the story?

I actually, really don't!

I don't plan out how/why my characters pick new jobs up; I want to see how the new job plays and what it's lore and story actually is before deciding how and why my gals might get to it, or if I want to tweak it at all. I'm not spending too much effort on baseless plot and NPC speculation and making intricate plans that will be jossed by level 93 and how MSQ actually does unfold.

The closest I ever came to pre-planning anything for an expac was "we're going to Thavnair; I'll finally get lore to flesh out some of Aeryn's family stuff and decide how to fit in my headcanons for them" (as I purposefully made them a minority ethnic group in Thavnair for the reasons we had only a little lore for so many years, and no nation is a monolith anyway, and then the writers' discussion at previous FanFest 2023 panels really drove home how they tried to make Thavnair a diverse melting pot culture due to its history and trade position, so that worked out). But even then I waited until I actually played through MSQ to really decide what to adjust or keep.

A reason I go through with Dark Autumn first is to just enjoy the story (or not) as it comes, to get my own knee jerk reactions and feelings out of the way. And then I go through again on Aeryn or C'oretta and see how the story's constructed to reach the finale, and consider my WoL's reactions, thoughts, and feelings, and where that takes her story. Sometimes my opinion on certain things may even change, or I get a different idea for how it looks and works when seeing it again and considering the IC angles on that new run.

I might still do so when going through my 3rd or 4th time on alts or in NG+, even years later, as I've changed since then and also seen later storyline and how they go together now.

And then I probably spend a few years playing within those lines and scenes and ideas in my fanfic. But I also tend to keep my WoL fairly close to the canon storyline for the most part and with as close as I can get to the canon depictions of the NPCs. Other, own story stuff tends to happen based on interactions with friends and their writing, or random ideas at random times and deciding if they work or not (like Corran's history and Avengret hitting me out of nowhere based on prompts).

Also it's kinda nice to just open the expac on Day 1 with no real expectations or preconceptions, just letting story and gameplay roll in and sweep me along with them. Frankly, I think more folks really ought to give that a try, instead of pitching fits over how the expansion wasn't all they hoped and dreamed and so was a giant disappointment based on...what? Fanon? Headcanon? Speculation? Hopes for complicated plans they made for their OCs based on out of context lines and screens from FanFest and the trailers?

Just try experiencing a story for what it is and what it's trying to do, not self-hyped preconceptions, in any direction.

I dunno. A lot of words to say that I just like seeing how the world is written and presented, as it hits my characters and determine their plots that way, not ahead of time. I want to be inspired by the gameworld, not try to twist it into something it isn't (and will never be) when I can just write in my own original settings for that. My creation in FF14 is fanfiction on the story and characters presented.

Also I really am just tied up in my original writing at the moment, new MSQ will be a break and brief bout of new fandom creativity.

Yeah, there are some things I'm glad they threw aside. The reasoning behind Scanlan's departure in the campaign was ... understandable to a point, but especially when relying on revivification being a tricky-as-fuck thing to pull off, it's better this way. Honestly, both sides handled the preliminaries of Scanlan's departure abysmally in the campaign, and it was the only part of the campaign I really didn't like. Pranking Scanlan after his death. Not only letting his daughter see his corpse, but letting her see him embarrassed by people who are supposed to care about him? Scanlan didn't even need to go into "What's my mother's name?" But on that one and "you never did anything for me", he went a little too far too, and it was ... ugly and ... less out of character and more everyone taking multiple steps backwards from their character development. Having Scanlan make a choice and stick to it, instead of trying to be all things to all people, and realising that Jack of All Trades doesn't apply to matters of the heart? The series just did his departure better.

So three more eps tomorrow, and now I can end the evening with finally watching Omn1's reaction video. It's been really fun watching him become a bona-fide Critter in real time. From "This looks interesting" to "I have a campaign coming up and I got the dice and I have the Vex-with-broom Funko ... well, I have all of the Funkos, but..." while wearing CR merch. Probably one of the most genuine and hilarious reactors I've seen. And since I seldom if ever get to watch things with people, this is the next best thing. Or at least, definitely better than watching stuff with my mother, who misses half of what she watches because she's talking through it. (Watching with Marion was fun, though. ...Maybe I'll see what in my DVD / streaming service collection I can throw at the head of @noctumsolis when dinner happens. That could be cool. Convicting a murderous cop has its consequences. The integrity of a juror in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin is being called into question because the juror attended a march for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. last August, CBS-affiliated WCCO reported on Tuesday. Floyd’s family spoke at the March on Washington, which was intended to commemorate the 57th anniversary of the civil rights leader's famous "I Have a Dream" speech. It also included a voter registration rally, which Brandon Mitchell, the juror in question, told WCCO was the reason he attended. His attire at the event, however, is now being scrutinized after he was photographed in a T-shirt with King's image and the words, “Get Your Knee Off Our Necks,” and “BLM,” which Mitchell explained were broader references to the circumstances of 2020.

“It was huge to get people geared for voter turnout, so being a part of that, being able to attend, you know, the same location where Martin Luther King gave his speech was a historic moment,” Mitchell told WCCO. “Either way, I was going to D.C. for this event, even if George Floyd was still alive.” Floyd is not alive, and don’t for one second let Chauvin’s apparent desperation to get away with murder obscure the fact that Floyd is not here to see his daughter grow up because of Chauvin. Not Mitchell or any other member of the jury.

Chauvin, who is due for sentencing at 2:30 PM ET on June 16, was convicted of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter last month. Several clips of witness video presented at trial showed him kneeling on the neck of 46-year-old Floyd for more than nine minutes on May 25, 2020, outside of the Cup Foods corner store in Minneapolis. That video went viral and ushered the case onto an international stage, fueling anti-racism and anti-police brutality protests.

Still, Mitchell, juror No. 52 in the trial, told CBS This Morning co-host Gayle King he didn't feel pressure to reach a guilty verdict "at all … And I don't think any of us felt like that. I for sure did not. I for sure did not feel like that,” Mitchell said. “The pressure more so came from just being in the room and being under stress. But it wasn't pressure to come to A guilty verdict." He told King he was stressed about having to come into the courtroom and watch a Black man die every day. “That alone is stressful,” he said. “Coming in each and every day and having to watch somebody die is stressful enough by itself. So anything outside of that was secondary, just because as a human, it's natural to feel some kind of way as you're watching somebody in agony.”

Chauvin's defense attorney, Eric Nelson, brought up the question of just how much outside opinions of the case might be affecting the trial when he didn’t like how Rep. Maxine Waters answered an interviewer's question about what demonstrators should do if Chauvin isn't convicted. “We’ve got to get more confrontational," she said. "We’ve got to make sure that they know that we mean business.” With that, Nelson brought up the possibility of a mistrial and said the jury should have been sequestered from the start of the trial. “My phone gives me alerts on things that just happened. I mean you can’t avoid it, and it is so pervasive that I just don’t know how this jury can really be said to be that they are free from the taint of this,” Nelson said. “And now that we have U.S. representatives threatening acts of violence in relation to this specific case, it’s mind-boggling to me judge.” Judge Peter Cahill admonished Waters but ultimately ruled that her remarks weren’t grounds for a mistrial.

Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who represents the Floyd family, told TMZ that Mitchell's interview "completely obliterates" any claim from the Chauvin defense that public opinions outside the courtroom influenced the jury.

Rachel Moran, a law professor from the University of St. Thomas, told WCCO an important consideration in the case is whether lawyers did their job in investigating jurors. Mitchell said in a questionnaire WCCO obtained that he never took part in a protest about police brutality and that the phrase Black lives matter simply means Black people "want to be treated as equals and not killed or treated in an aggressive manner simply because they are Black.”

“If he had been asked about it and he tried to hide it, that could be an issue,” Moran said. “But at this point, I don’t see anything, any evidence that he tried to hide it.”

The attorney added that “it’s really important for the viewers at home to know it’s really hard to overturn a conviction, and courts are especially reluctant to interfere with the jury deliberation process.”

King: 31-year-old Brandon Mitchell was known only as juror #52, and he joins us now. Brandon, we're really glad to see you because all of us wanted to know what happened. So I'd like you if you could, please take us inside the room. I think we were surprised that you're 12 strangers, you didn't know each other, you go in the room — what's the process, and how were you able to reach a verdict so quickly? And good morning!

Juror Brandon Mitchell: Yeah. Absolutely. Good morning to you. First, I want to send my condolences to the Floyd family.

King: Yes.

Mitchell: But when we walked into the deliberation room, the first thing we did is we voted on whether or not we wanted to have our mask on. We made that kind of an ice breaker to get going. We voted to not have our mask on. We took our masks off. We voted for a foreperson, and from there we went straight into the manslaughter charges and took a preliminary vote before doing a final vote on those charges.

King: What was the preliminary vote?

Mitchell: The preliminary vote was 11 of us were already — we were already on board for guilty for the manslaughter. One person was still unsure. And we just went over it as a team, as a group. Each person kind of went down the line on why they thought it was guilty. We did another vote maybe 40 minutes later after we went through everybody, and everybody was on the same page for the manslaughter. It happened really quickly.

King: Did you do that with each of the charges? Is that what you did, took a vote on each of the charges?

Mitchell: Yeah, absolutely. Each charge we did a preliminary vote to see where we were at, if there was anybody that was not on board yet or was unsure. Then we would go around the room, everybody kind of speak on what they think is necessary to speak on. We went over maybe a little bit of the evidence. And then we'd come back with a final vote whenever we thought it was a suitable time.

King: What was the one person unsure about, Brandon?

Mitchell: I think it was just like, the terminology. So within the instructions, some of the terminology can be a little tricky, because it's legal jargon. And so sometimes some of the words can be interpreted differently among people. It was just they wanted to do their due diligence and make sure that they were coming out with the right verdict that they believed in. So they were hung up on a few words. We went through the definitions that were given to us and kind of broke it down from different perspectives to get everybody on the same page.

King: Was there any particular witness that moved you and moved the jury that you said, okay, we're deeply affected by 'fill in the blank'?

Mitchell: So I think as a whole jury, I think Dr. Tobin was the biggest, the most influential witness out of everybody. For me personally, Donald Williams was another person. So Donald Williams and Dr. Tobin --

King: That's the fighter, yeah. The mixed martial arts fighter.

Mitchell: Yeah, so him early on, I felt he set the tone for the rest of the trial. And then when Dr. Tobin came, with him speaking so scientifically but also making it understandable for everyone along with the exhibits that he came with, I thought he just broke it down in a manner that was easy for all the jurors to understand. And I didn't think there was any way to — for the defense to come back after that. I was like, to me, the case was — it was done at that point almost.

King: Did you feel pressure because you knew the world was watching? That, you know, we have to reach a guilty verdict here?

Mitchell: Not at all. And I don't think any of us felt like that. I for sure did not. I for sure did not feel like that. The pressure more so came from just being in the room and being under stress. But it wasn't pressure to come to A guilty verdict.

King: What were you all stressed about?

Mitchell: We were just stressed about just the simple fact that every day we had to come in and watch a Black man die. That alone is stressful. Coming in each and every day and having to watch somebody die is stressful enough by itself. So anything outside of that was secondary, just because as a human, it's natural to feel some kind of way as you're watching somebody in agony.

King: Yeah. I can't imagine, Brandon, what it was like to be able to watch that tape day after day after day, the way you all did.

Mitchell: Yeah. It definitely had its impact on me. There was a few days where I was like, I don't know how I'm going to make it in this next day, especially me as a Black man. And a larger black man, I'm about 6'4", 250 pounds. And some of the testimony is like saying how size can be considered like, you know, is it a risk or threat. Whereas me, I'm a gentle giant. Stuff like that, that affects me in a way that — it's weird. I don't know if it affects anybody else the same way.

King: I understand. I understand what you're saying. How did you all feel about Derek Chauvin, the fact that he did not take the stand? Would that have made a difference to you? We'll never know, but do you think it would have made a difference?

Mitchell: It possibly — it possibly could have. We did talk about, you know, the fact that he didn't. Somebody had brought it up, like they wished he would have, they would have liked to have heard from him. But since it wasn't part of the case, it just is what it is. But yeah, I mean, anything brought in or not brought in, it could have possibly affected it either way. Either way I can't say it would have changed the outcome, but it's a possibility for sure.

King: Do you worry about your safety now? This was such a controversial case. We now know your name, we now know what you look like, we now know that you said you're a large man. Do you worry about your safety?

Mitchell: No, not at all. Not at all. I'm a person that kind of thrives in the positives. So I'm not too much concerned about that. Nor do I dwell on —

King: —the what if's—

Mitchell: —on negativity like that. Yeah, the what if's.

King: And he's going to be sentenced June 25. What do you think is the proper sentence for him, for Derek Chauvin? He's facing up to 40 years.

Mitchell: Yeah. I couldn't say what the proper sentencing would be. You know, I think we came up with the right verdict. You know, guilty on all charges. And you know, I'll let the judge do what he does.

King: All right, thank you very much. We really wanted to hear from you today. It's been a fascinating case that we've been watching.

Mitchell: Yes, thank you.

We have permits and they're a little bit ahead of it because Thor and Freya had done my preliminary work purchase the land and got the permits so I have to say that it's not that easy and that when you get right down to it people are cussing you out all the time around here for just about anything and something like that you're going to get cussed out a lot and knowing the difference between cussing out and what they're doing is going to be a changer so we decided to put security guards up aed security guards. And at night too and we can have a robot patrol several of them and they are actually proficient if you have to recall in and do the job but you don't want people messing with it on it or throwing things on it and we have cameras up already and we're scanning everything and going through it and pulling some junk out cars all the crap and finally get up it's going to be out of there in a moments matter of fact they're pulling it out and most of its off site and all of it is usually they try and hold things up they're actually excavating for the pad I'm putting several in and actually I'm putting stuff UPS in so I don't have to redo it and we are going to use your idea and hook up the stub-ups to temporary power water and sewer and it's going to be a tank it's much faster doing it this way otherwise it takes three to five days it's supposed to one I'm going ahead with the foundations and we're going to prep them and plop it in and it will be ready momentarily and he wants to see it works sometime fun for him and his idea and he is really big cranes and it's not like this flying thing that they say it is it's a lot of fun because it works great and it takes moments and there are people underneath it now it's against the ocean rules and he figured it out once how you connected and that's how it is you make the thing go straight up the hole is not real small and you grab it with a tool and it goes down it's not funny each and every hole has a person on it you have these people inside it's dangerous and he said you could have a machine do it if they don't allow you do all this stuff because you want to try and grab some more of the ambulance haters so we have a lot of work down here to do so moving a lot of people and then things it's grateful because it's a headache and we have to he has so many offspring coming up with his babies and I'm going to the baby here again trying to come in real quick and it works.

Okay so we have this huge party going on down there no it's a lot of work. Those people are frowning no I think it's great it's going in and we're getting it done and we're going to be having a presence and people can buy cars and maybe even our Father might have one and Hera my Mother says maybe my husband. And we just thought of a promotional and we're going to talk to the mall down the street and we don't mean all the people we mean the people at the mall and we're not really suing them directly we're suing the people are trying to kidnap him and they said we'd be pleased to accept a few cars as long as he didn't have fuel in them and I said we take the fuel out and the oil and clean it out completely and we'll make it so it won't start even if they put a battery in and it said that's a good idea because sometimes they had problems with people putting cars in at Ran and it smells and can add stuff on the floor. And we showed him a few bottles of what we have one of them is the Camaro and one is a Ford pickup truck and it's full size and we have a Chevy smaller size four wheel drive pickup looks real snazzy and sometimes we put the packages on them to make it look better if they're four wheel drive cuz it just look like a truck and the available packages for that model and they were really amazed these cars look brand new and they're used and they have hardly any damage to them at all and he looked at it because you brought them down already he likes it and it looks very nice he inspected and said how much do you want for it and we told him the price and said you can put me down for one and we said how about this one you can watch it all day we've all started chuckling I said father you oh my pretzel and a hot dog and he goes That's great we have it over here so I bottom one and a drink and some other stuff and he's eating and having a good time and he said this is so much fun it's great they do that but they just come in and eat and they don't do anything they're saying anything it's no fun and use my son wants to know if the sausage guy is going to be here you can't really make it down here it looks bad and he said well we know about that and then he said why don't you give him a car so we can try we might have a contest here you said we can do a contest like you guys do and it would be like a way to introduce it and you thought that was great so we're getting his car ready for putting it in there so advertising fee plus and bonus and you thought that was terrific and said that it's a lot of work like but Chinese or something and repair cars throw and you do tons of them and it's just like over there they make 300,000 things in a minute but they're used so he thought that it was great in the process I'm actually here doing it we've done it down here before just didn't put any shops in didn't have people yelling at us like they do other places we do the shows in the mall.

Suddenly he got up abruptly and he said I don't want to talk anymore about this and we said that's okay looked around we saw some Asians you're upset said oh they're from the Mitsubishi company so they'll have to try and compete so I said fine we'll put some cars in and fix up use Mitsubishi said oh and they laughed cuz we left smiling cuz he had a recent run in so I went over there and said is everything okay so yes don't worry about it I said okay are you hung around and watch them drag them off I thought that was cool then the Asians went over and want to put a car in he said how much you going to give me he said they're going to be this and you think five we did so they said wow and then they understood something we're not doing any sales so they decide to they put one in and I think they're getting a new car so they're wow we're going to fix this up a little more or drink his wife one so we brought his car down because it's ready and he brought his wife down one and he said how do you know I have a wife and said we saw your ring instead of then what I'm going to give me a new one Started of laughing okay.

Yes it is we'd like it to go in this time and we are excavating we are over there digging it up and we are permitted and construction does go this fast and we're involved in it we do both places and we were before and we do know how the process is but there's one thing that's always blocking us and that's the whole area and the public this time we had a meeting and worf going out what what it is and that is all American cars so we're hanging out flyers now and people are grabbing them they're saying oh wow this is interesting I said all OEM USA made parts and they said that's terrific and he's saying how to swing this he said that's the boss doing it he works with Mac and he smiles and says okay so a lot of people say that and we're hanging out flyers in the mall and we have a particular uniform on and it said they want to get me a job there because our uniforms are snazzy and they do look kind of funny like a milkman no looks like a sailor an old fashioned one but it's neat and prim and doesn't have any fluffiness so you look kind of odd with your uniform and I said well and we do that because it represents our strictness to quality and attention to detail because we don't want to go out looking like a used car and they started to get real happy about it and said do you have any examples and we put it around and said there's three in the mall and we have four outside in accordance area and we have pictures of other ones and so they said we better go to this place and we said we're building it now and it's not in yet and they start getting upset and I said but you can order one from a number here and they start looking online and people are ordering them and they said we've been in the rest of the country for a while telling people ordering them now so they want to play soon cuz they want to go look at it and we have the carousel one of the ones you designed ones that goes round and round and see it going round and round at night but the cars in it and some people will come by and just stare at it because that's what they do what they're doing is trying to see which car they want and it's impressive because you see what people like when they want something and some people are deceptive about it what you do I was thinking about all the stuff so it looks like you're iffy about the whole thing

So some people think they're smart but I figuring out which one it is it's true kind of that used to be right on that is way off

I'm very proud of my husband and the work you did today it's a very clever thing to do wise is smart and it gets the job done and I don't think he had any help from Mac or other just thought it was a good idea and it was firstly Nuada and Arianna who noted that there may be dissension and he was thinking you could force it we might force it all year that doesn't have good for anybody so then we decide it's a great idea. I'm starting to be impressed with him a little bit and it's a great idea there's tons of sales already down there and they're bringing the cars in they're bringing in my train so you don't want to clog it up and have a open lot they're using and they're filling it up right now and people are coming down and picking up their cars it's like valet service there's hundreds and hundreds of people buying them online it's a crazy scene because I've never seen it like that before and we of course or give some cars way to this lookman and so forth and they're saying I used to own this car and it's my favorite car tons of a tripping out is it my car and check the numbers and no sometimes we have someone say it's my car exactly it's often number or something like that so it's amazing it's a lot of fun there's a lot of kids down there children are wondering why they're buying all these used cars and a lot of the reason is that particular years that we're selling easier to maintain they work better and actually more fuel efficient new ones are so many doodads and you can't use them that's another thing they're figuring out we're selling cars are useful Chevy and Ford probably want to put a dealership in cuz they have the new cars that they're pumping out they were not at the car show either
