I love TOA but the premise of Apollo getting punished still doesn't make sense to me. Why would he endorse Octavian's plan to attack Camp Half-Blood when Apollo is the reason CHB exists in the first place and continues to serve as its patron. One of his epithets was literally "child nurturer" and he was worshipped as a protector of youths and children, just as Artemis was. Did they offer a reasonable explanation for that and I missed it somehow. Will Solace was so right for insisting with every fiber of his being that Octavian's plan goes directly against Apollo's very nature and that there's no way he would have gone along with it

i think the accepted and somewhat canon explanation is that octavian manipulated apollo and led him to believe his plan for New Rome was something it wasn’t.

manipulating a god shouldn’t be particularly easy but Octavian is quite cunning and we can’t forget the gods are completely out of it and weakened for most of the second saga because of the greco-roman schism. Apollo also admits he fell for Octavian’s ass kissing, which he isn’t proud of, and i do find it to be possible.

he certainly didn’t want Camp Halfblood to be destroyed. that’s for sure

After 5 years of being cursed into being basically turtle monsters, their still waiting at camp halfblood for a prophecy so they can go on a quest to undo this spell that’s been put upon them. Leo being impatient, decides to take things into his own hands, Mikey ofc not letting him go by himself. Raph and Donnie suddenly finding them gone, go on a quest to bring them home.

Childhood Reading Memoir

Growing up, I remember enjoying reading a heck of a lot more than I did once I was in highschool and before rediscovery in recent years when getting my jobs at public libraries. I remember being particularly interested in animals regardless of their magic status but with particular interest in all things dragons and the more ferocious the better; I remember studying the Dragonology series intensely. I always tried to get my parents to read the most cumbersome picture books as well as spending a lot of time in my school libraries growing up; my elementary school Librarian resembled Miss Frizzle too much for me and my classmates to not be interested in hanging out with her. 

I remember outside of picture books that I enjoyed reading and working my way through more advanced magical tales such as InkHeart- which will always hold a special place in my heart- as well as Howl’s Moving Castle. Eventually, while in Middle School I believe, the Percy Jackson Series, The Hunger Games, and the Twilight Saga all came out and regardless of the issues we can see in especially the latter as more critical readers and thinkers as adults we were well fed with literature. I remember making a statement of reading the Inkheart trilogy before Twilight like my classmates and dressing up as Camp Halfblood teens- I had the biggest crush on Thalia and my friends and I dressed up for the movie that came out.

As I grew older, I still continued to love reading and books enough to spend time with the Librarians in my schools and to help them with things including making a life-size TARDIS with my best friend for a display but my reading dipped from fantasy tomes to manga and fan-fiction- which is totally fine but the interest even faded from there. But the magic of those people and spaces still hold a special place in my heart and memories and I am grateful for them. Young me is thankful for the badass tomboys and magic girls and dragons I was given in my youth and I am rediscovering them now as an adult but with more trans and queer people that are out and explicit in their identity than just being tomboys. I remember the libraries in my schools growing up very vividly, remembering the spaces and colors and vibes. I can feel myself keeping that locked and cataloged away fondly as I memorize new libraries and faces.

Let’s be real, annabeth chase is the most important character in the grecoroman part of the riordanverse. Every big three kid that makes it to camp halfblood has to deal with her. The two great prophecies involve her or one of her friends. she keeps percy in line, keeps him as docile as a boy like percy jackson can really be, and she practically keeps the camp running. Hermes thinks of her as the one person who could’ve pulled luke back from the brink, if she hadn’t given up on him. Percy’s loyalty was never to the gods, it was to Annabeth and his other friends. But Annabeth? Her loyalty is to olympus and has been since she was a child. even thalia’s death couldn’t shake that loyalty. that is why she’s so useful to olympus, even without physical powers of her own. as long as she’s around, they can somewhat control one of the most powerful demigods of a generation, and if they can control percy, they keep ahold of camp half blood. annabeth is the lynchpin of the camp halfblood saga of the riordanverse.

Hello everyone! Welcome to a story that may never end :D, wait, that's not a good start. Ignore that.

As, I suppose, they have already read in the title, this is a fanfic where the worlds of PJO / HOO / MC and Marvel merge creating a completely different universe. Where superheroes become mythical heroes and the main demigods can leave their duties to the next generation of demigods.

Before starting the stories, there is data that you need to know:

• The characters of Marvel were never superheroes, but were born as demigods, so they are few or none of the events of the films passed to the letter.

• The main demigods (the seven of the prophecy, Nico, Reyna, Magnus, Samirah, etc.) took their well-deserved rest and left the demigods / einherjar new with the prophecies and adventures as it should have happened, thank you, Uncle Rick .

• Fic events happen after the saga of Percy Jackson, The Heroes of Olympus, and the first two books of Magnus Chase (because I have not read the third), The Trials Of Apollo will not be joined since I do not know what will happen and I am scared.

• Leo Valdez returned from death with Calypso and Festo six months after the events of The Blood Of Olympus, they stayed at the Halfblood Camp to rest and relax until death, amen.

• Nico Di'Angelo and Will Solace still do not start dating.

• If they see family interactions with Peter and Wade or Tony they are only fraternal, nothing dirty.

• Magnus and his group Resolving Problems Of The Ungrateful Gods ™ took time to go for Loki because Loki took (perhaps) a temporary vacation.

• Thor and Loki appear in the story, but not as gods, but Thor will be the apprentice of Thor (lol) and Loki an ice giant and something else.

• Following Spiderman's unwritten rule, Uncle Ben is still dead, but Peter is not Spiderman.

• Shield exists, but it is still a normal national security secret organization and there are no avengers, Hydra does not even infiltrate.

• Yes there was a Captain America, but not a Winter Soldier. The Steve of the story is still on his high horse of morality, but not because it was Cap. Captain America, of this universe did die because, come on, even he could not last so long on the ice (also, the formula mutated too much and could not survive). The Winter Solder is a project that failed because the formula of the super soldier did not work (mutateeeeed).

And I think it would be all for now, this section will be updatable in case I forget something (as always).

They’re all students at a boarding school for “bad kids.” What did Jason do to end up here? And where is here, exactly? Piper has a secret. Her father has been missing for three days, ever since she had that terrifying nightmare about his being in trouble. Piper doesn’t understand her dream, or why her boyfriend suddenly doesn’t recognize her. When a freak storm hits during the school trip, unleashing strange creatures and whisking her, Jason, and Leo away to someplace called Camp Half-Blood, she has a feeling she’s going to find out. Leo has a way with tools. When he sees his cabin at Camp Half-Blood, filled with power tools and machine parts, he feels right at home. But there’s weird stuff, too—like the curse everyone keeps talking about, and some camper who’s gone missing. Weirdest of all, his bunkmates insist that each of them—including Leo—is related to a god. Does this have anything to do with Jason’s amnesia, or the fact that Leo keeps seeing ghosts? -Goodreads

The Review:

Admittedly, I was a bit late to the Percy Jackson party. I ended up loving PJ enough to purchase hardcovers for all things Riordan, the set for Heroes of Olympus being among my favorite things on my shelves (so pretty!). However, it did take me a long while (5+ years) to get around to reading these, mostly because I was unaware it had anything to do with PJ until my best friend clued me in.

This series is not just a spinoff, it’s a bonafide continuation with a mix of old and new characters! I definitely would’ve started it sooner had I been aware of that. The newby characters were exceptionally well-developed compared to other middle grade series. It actually surprised me how much depth of character I got from their rich backstories. It made their motives and actions have a much bigger impact on the overall arc of the story, which really helped build my enthusiasm for what’s to come.

So, good characters aside, I have mixed feelings about the actual plot of The Lost Hero. Other than the chapters spent in Camp Halfblood (like Hogwarts, I think any time spent in magical establishment for kids is golden material), I found the plot unnecessarily long and repetitive. Meet a new mythical monster, fight it, lather, repeat. It didn’t give me a whole lot to latch onto and I found myself putting it down in favor of other things after getting that “wait, didn’t I just read this?” feeling every time I picked it up. The good characters and some of the other cool components (like the metal dragon on the cover) kept me reading (plus that weird motivation that comes from the mindset that I “should” love this series), but overall it didn’t knock my socks off. It got a pass because it has all the makings of something great, and I know the level of awesomeness Riordan is capable of. Even so, I believe this first book could’ve been pared down a bit for a much more concise and interesting story. Maybe it’s just me.

All that said, I think (it has been a while) I had similar issues with the first PJ book, and ended up absolutely loving the second one and beyond. Now that I know the main conflict of this series (introduced at the end of Lost Hero, which might be part of the initial issue even though I really loved the “reveal”), I like where Riordan is going with the story. I’m hoping to see my ratings increase with each installment.

Recommendations: I think at this point most people interested in this author have already tried him. However if you’re like me and late to the party, I would only recommend this Heroes of Olympus series if you’ve already read (and loved) Percy Jackson. It’s a direct continuation with spoilers abound for the first series. I think the saga is an awesome rec for middle grade readers, and as a bookseller I saw it spark a love of both reading and mythology in kids, which is pretty friggin cool.
