#camp beads!!!

I have so many thoughts about this actually. And a lot of headcanons. I kind of always imagined that if a camper dies, their necklace may get passed on to other campers they were close to. Leading to some campers now having sets of beads they wear like braclets or something similar to honor their friends. Of course some of the beads may go to parents, but not all parents are on the know/in their kid's lives for whatever reason.

As for who found them, after the battle? I think a lot of them weren't. Sure, if they were able to, some campers would grab their fallen griends and drag them behind the front lines for funeral rites. And if they managed it, the beads were probably collected then.

But if they couldn't? Their line of defense kept falling further and further back. Sometimes there just wasn't time to get them.

A lot of mortals couldn't really understand what happened. And most of the beads were simply kicked out of the way or some even crushed underfoot to the bustle of the city.

But ever now and then, a colorful, handpainted bead would catch someone's eye. And now somewhere a kid fiddles with the pretty bead in their pocket. Not knowing the redish brown streak is blood from someone their own age. And the faint gold shimmer the result of their final act of bravery.

thinking about all the beads that were left on the streets after the battle of manhattan, for every fallen camper came with multiple beads that fell from their necklaces — who cleaned those up? did they clean them up? when percy looked along the streets what did he think? what did chiron think? who picked up the beads, who identified the bodies? was it little wil solace who now ran the infirmary? was it mr. d? who told the parents?

i think it’s the most funny and romantic thing ever that they’re so attracted to each other in dangerous/deathly situations. in both those scenes, they are an absolute mess - percy covered in dirt, blood, and spiderwebs, and annabeth covered in muck and sewer water - and yet they find each other so beautiful. they could literally be about to DIE, and yet all they’re thinking is “wow you look so hot right now.” i just love when they percabeth like that. they are so funny.

also. perseus jackson, where the HELL were you going with that thought about the way her beads looked on her throat before you stopped yourself, young man?

So I'm painting camp beads and I cannot for the life of me remember what the background color is for the battle of Manhattan bead

If any of yall know that would be great, if not I think I might just make the background gold with a black silhouette of the empire state building.

Chris! One of my favorite underappreciated guys. I like to think about his design in terms of complimenting/contrasting Clarisse since she's the main character he interacts with, so I lean into him being generally softer shapes than her but a similar sort of build/haircut/also having notable scars. His scars also kinda parallel Luke's, so that's fun.
